The Shahzada speaks up with the sort of fervor a man may only find when deep in the bottle. “Then we'll hunt them down and put every last one of them to the sword!” He smashes his fist into his palm to emphasize his point. “The Royal Fleet will be arriving within the next few days, and the combined might of the Shah's Navy would be enough to smash even the mightiest of pirates.”

The Varistha holds up a finger. “I would not be so sure.” Before the Shahzada can respond enraged the Varistha cuts him off with a gesture. “Judging by my honored guest's description-” Huh, seems like the Varistha is pointedly avoiding the use of your name. You owe him one. “-the pirates are using a type of weapon not seen on the high seas since my youth. Cannon, massive constructions of steel. The Rhynians employed them on their quinqueremes, a type of massive galley manned by upwards of four hundred men, the vast majority rowers. They could have upwards of forty cannons of varying sizes and shapes, usually ten to a side with various others positioned to cover all angles of fire.”

The Varistha shakes his head slowly. “The Battle of the Bay, or as the Rhynians called it the 'Proelio Mare Nostrum'. The Battle for Our Sea. Can you believe that? They'd yet to seize Azash yet they were already claiming her waters as their own.” He waves a hand dismissively. “Their ships tore through the Hiacian fleet, reducing the majority of our ships to little more than rubble. Only by employing the efforts of small teams of vatis to punch holes in the hulls of their ships were we able to win the day. I remember vividly a chain thicker than my wrist came whistling past, took my friend's head right off and damn near sliced another in half.” He tsk quietly, shaking his head. “Vile weapon, not fit to be used by proper soldiers if you ask me.”

The Shahzada doesn't seem dissuaded. “You said you defeated them in the past, when the Rhynians were at their height. Surely we can defeat them now, in a time when the Rhynians are nothing more than a black stain in history books and the ship is manned by little more than a band of unruly pirates. I'll need your best Vatis to sail with my fleet! With their aid nothing will stand in my way!”

The Varistha shakes his head. “I cannot simply give you my issue, Kadir. It is my duty as their Varistha to ensure their safety. However, I will be more than happy to put the word out that you seek volunteers. Those who wish to join you in battle, may.”

The Shahzada doesn't seem quite happy with this solution but he doesn't protest, a fact you find astonishing. For a moment you'd thought yourself forgotten, and prepare yourself to leave, but the Shahzada addresses you before you can slip away. “You, Coward.” You bow your head just slightly in the Shahzada's direction. “I will need a guide. You will be that guide. Meet me on the docks upon the arrival of my fleet.”

You respond with a deep bow, touching your fingers first to your forehead and then to your chest. “Very well, my Shahzada. I will be waiting for you at the docks when the fleet arrives.” He waves you off dismissively, and you quickly stride out of the room before the Shahzada can cause you any more trouble. On some conscious level you realize you should be angry, you should want to wring Kadir's throat until he turns purple, but for some odd reason you just find yourself unable to be upset about anything for very long. You just feel so energetic and happy, all seems right with the world.

You meander out of the monk's quarters and towards your party's suite of rooms. You almost run into Darzi in the hallways, who jumps slightly at the sight of you. “Mik, is that you?” You nod. Who else would it be? The only other person who has a suit of armor like yours is the Varistha, but his is far more battle scarred and far more decorated than your own.

Darzi's voice enters the back of your mind as the two of you begin your walk towards your rooms. {So, here's what I got from the soldiers in the fortress. Basically, Shahzada Kadir has come to join his father on a pleasure cruise with some of the more influential, up-and-coming noblemen in his retinue. The soldiers are mostly just their personal guards and various retainers. Some of them are battle hardened soldiers, but I met a lot of rookies and a lot of glorified merchant marines.} Those would likely be your house's retainers. Your family has never had much in the way of land holdings, but you're unrivaled at sea.

Paired with slow, we could put up a mental shield.
Used to increase our defense.
We could survive a gun shot to the chest. Point blank to our armor.
Slow - We can create a passive regenerate spending 5 vys that as a grandmaster of healing will almost revive us short of anything but a curb stomp.
Same with a mental shield that works to nullify any incoming mental damage. So long as it's strong enough to repell the attack.
Easily put in a few vys and at least make it that much harder for the being that invaded us to leave us along.

While yes we will be going to get the artifact to purge our mind. last I heard we were at 6.x on a scale of 10. LONG ago, as we've been getting close to grand master in any element we've taken a toll on our mind.

You make your way towards Prof's room, stopping outside and addressing Darzi through your mental link. {I just spoke with the Shahzada and the Varistha in the latter's room. The Shahzada is distraught, as you said, due to his missing father. He believes that the wreckage we found off the coast may have been his father's vessel.} Darzi visibly tenses. {He's enlisted me as a guide, to lead him and his fleet to the island the pirates have based their operations on. He hopes that the Shah has merely been taken captive, and not killed. Personally, I find this unlikely but in his current mood I doubt anyone could dissuade the Shahzada from this voyage.}

Darzi considers this for a moment, and then shakes her head slowly. {I must come with you, then. If the Shah might still live it is my duty to seek him out. Regardless of how hopeless the task might seem.} You shoot her an annoyed look, before waving her off dismissively and pushing open Profectus' door.

{Talk to me later, I have preparations to make.} Truth be known, you're not sure if you want to endanger your companions by dragging them along with you. These pirates completely annihilated the Shah's vessel and presumably his escorts as well, though you did not think the wreckage you found belonged to more than one ship. Before Darzi can protest, you sever the connection and shut the door behind you, instead turning your attention to your lazy apprentice.

Much to your surprise, Profectus is actually meditating. However, he's not doing a very good job of it. The lamp sits before him, glowing softly. Profectus sits before it, posed in tranquil meditation. Nothing at all seems to be happening.

You channel just a touch of vys into your helmet, expecting the world to fade away and reveal the ebb and flow of vys through your surroundings. Instead what you get is an explosion of light and color, Everything seems brighter. Everything seems fuller. For lack of a better word, everything just looks more real. It's... odd. Like a film has been removed from your eyes and now you finally see the world for what it is.

Profectus' arm appears as a roiling ball of fire and energy. Tendrils of vys poke and prod at the shell of stone that covers his arm, but can't find an exit. The rest of his body is oddly devoid of vys, like he's channeled it all into his arm but can't figure out how to release it. Around him vys slowly seeps out into the surroundings, naturally given off just by his continued existence. You exude a similar cloud of excess vys, though yours is much, much larger than Profectus'. Much of your excess vys seems to collapse into the cloak, but what escapes is still significant. If only you could harness that excess, somehow...

The ebb and flow of vys through your surroundings appears as though ghost-like fingers clawing their way through space. They're barely visible, faintly colored if at all, and seem to distort the world around them. A significant portion of the vys in the room seems to be filtering towards Profectus, judging by the warping in the air around him. It reminds you almost of one's reflection if viewed on the surface of a metal bowl. Distorted to the point of barely being recognizable.

Perhaps the most troubling thing you see is a small, vaguely humanoid figure perched on Profectus' bed post. It's solid black, its body almost appearing as if made of ash. As you watch, a bright orange glow shoots through one of its arms before fading away like a dying ember. It turns its featureless head towards you, and in a puff of smoke it vanishes. It seemed fairly harmless, but you never would've been able to see it with just your magic sight...

You banish a growing sense of paranoia and turn your attention once more towards Profectus. It takes you only a moment to identify his issue, he's trying to channel his illusion through his arm instead of simply casting it, or channeling it through some other limb. His arm doesn't seem to be cooperating, because it refuses to crack open and allow his vys to flow forth. Thus, he's ended up more or less powerless. He's got the vys for the spell but he can't do anything with it.

It takes you only a touch of vys to bend the light around the lamp. You make it twist, and flip, and warp. Magnify and shrink. You note that the vys accumulated in Profectus' arm suddenly dissipates, filling the rest of his body. He must no longer be trying to cast. Good, it will be better for him to simply focus right now.

Eventually you start playing with the image of the lamp itself. You duplicate it, creating a second image of the lamp a few feet to the left. You shift it, the lamp seeming to appear someplace it isn't. You even try to nullify it, but this ends up being beyond your current talents. You create a few spots of transparency on the lamp's surface before dropping the effect to avoid draining your reserves overly.

For the final segment of your demonstration you stride out in front of Profectus and stand by the lamp, replicating some of the simpler illusions you just created. You expend more vys than is really necessary, to make sure he can see how you're channeling and casting the spell. Then you perform some of the more complex illusions, and finally you leave Profectus to his work. Hopefully that little demonstration will be enough to get him past his mental block.
