Stage 33: Drawing the Line, Crossing the Line....

[X] Everyone working on group tactics to protect Er Yin and Kiki-hime.
[XX] Power training for Yui and Kiki-hime, overseen by Er Yin – you need to work on a plan with Kiku-chan and Akari for when Wakaba arrives.

Death is a thing that you have inflicted three times so far. The first time was ritualistic combat, something that every member of Clan Ryu has experienced. It was a necessity, impressed upon you at the time, and you fought hard and fast because anything less would have ended in your death. You've grown past the point where you believed it was necessity or anything less than calculated testing of loyalty and dedication. A way to gain a hold as well, control of the student.

The other two times were private and secret, and truly necessity. They were a threat to some of the other Clan members, though no one else seemed to notice it – or cared if they did notice it. You were older and smarter then, and sophisticated enough to know trouble when you saw it. And in those two, oh, you saw it. You don't regret any of the deaths you've inflicted, but you try very hard to avoid killing now. And surprisingly, so far you've done amazingly well at not killing your enemies.

True you've trapped them in barriers and put them in situations where they're nigh-enslaved, but it's better than death. The issue you're really having is this time you're putting yourself and your family in a position where the chances are good that you'll have to kill someone in front of Kiki-hime. True, Yui-niji-chan hasn't seen you kill either, but she comes from a background of violence and pain all her own. And killing a youkai – well., you trapped a its spirit too, so that really wasn't a kill either.

Maybe you're nicer than you think you are.

Nah. You're pretty nice.
>>
>>35065283
Still, now you're in a forest, and Kiki-hime and Yui-niji-chan are playing with the powers they have never had the opportunity to truly learn and explore under the supervision and assistance of Er Yin-sensei, who is living up to her title in spades. The trees bend to your lover's will, and the powers of magic obey your new subordinate's will. Small things, in comparison to their potentials, but steps forward into a larger, more spectacular world they have not had the opportunity or chance to take until today. Not only is it a good thing, it makes you proud to be able to help them take those steps.

But right now, you have something much more troublesome to deal with, and that might5 just lead to the deaths you really don't want to cause. Still, you have people whom you can trust to not just have your back, but who have undergone the same training and have pasts as mottled and secretive as your own. Kiki-hime's older sister and your best friend are both Clan Ryo trained, and today you will be facing off against others with equal training and skill. You'll probably be in the midst of working with everyone to devise tactics centered around protecting Kiki-hime and Er Yin-sensei, so you have a good idea of what sort of situation you'll be in when they arrive.

The problem is that the one you have the most to fear from personally might be obsessed with Akari-niji-chan, who, along with Miko-Kiku-chan, is sitting on a large rock looking at you expectantly and patiently.

[] Do either of you have any clue why Wakaba might be fixated on Akari-chan?
[] What do you two think of tricking them into believing we're loyal?
[] Kiku-chan, how are you with putting Kiki-hime's safety over Er Yin's?
[] Keep your fear that you'll have to kill Wakaba to yourself.
[] Inform them that you may need to remove Wakaba from the equation permanently.

Consider trickery to be Plan A, and permanent silence as Plan B... You never know, Wakaba might be willing to switch sides to be with Akari... unlikely but possible...

[X] Do either of you have any clue why Wakaba might be fixated on Akari-chan?
[X] What do you two think of tricking them into believing we're loyal?
[] Kiku-chan, how are you with putting Kiki-hime's safety over Er Yin's?

[X] Inform them that you may need to remove Wakaba from the equation permanently.

“Akari-chan, I've asked before, but are you absolutely certain you have no idea why Ryuu Wakaba would be after you specifically? You haven't caused her trouble or done anything to her personally?” The way Hebe Yumiko described her, she was totally fixated on Akari in ways that indicate a very personal obsession that could easily devolve into violence, even though the accounts were second hand.

Akari-chan shakes her head calmly. “I have never heard of her, aniki. The way she sounds, she would have made herself known to me.”

The diminutive Fire dragonette looks at Akari pointedly. “Unless she were under orders to not trouble you, Akari-san.”

“What do you mean, Kiku-chan?” you ask softly.

Kiku-chan looks up at you, her golden eyes bright. “If Ryuu Wakaba is a Stone dragonette who was told to keep an eye on you, then it might be that Akari-san took the position that she covets for herself, aniki.” It is very easy to forget that the delicate dragonette is far older than most everyone you know, and has experience to match. “It may be the prestige she is jealous of, the view that Oba-san favors Akari-san, that drives her.”

Akari interrupts mildly. “But I was assigned this when I was small, and I come from a different family than aniki and Wakaba-san.”
>>
>>35065979
“That merely makes the insult greater, Akari-san,” points out Kiku-chan.

You consider carefully. It's a good point, and one you'll have to keep in mind. “Be that as it may, I really am concerned about dealing with her permanently. If this spirals out of control I really don't want to do it in front of Kiki-hime, but I'm wondering if the chances of us convincing them that we're sincere are not good.”

Kiku-chan touches the glimmering black earring, the charm that Er Yin made for her, for each of your family. “These are powerful enough to prevent Fire eyes from seeing truly, at least without intense effort to do so. That she would presume it is part of our cautious nature in protecting Kiki-hime is a good thing.” The lovely tomboy tilts her head. “She is a Stone dragonette so her sight will not be so potent as that. I suspect she will be more interested in dealing with the fact that Akari-san has Oba-san's attentions more than she wants for herself, so she will not bother worrying over your loyalties.”

Akari's head is down, and she is thinking hard. “Aniki, Stone dragonettes like to challenge one another through force. It would not be surprising if she accepted a challenge from you or delivered one to me. It is like how you and Er Yin....communicate.” She looks up at you. “We could distract her with that, perhaps. Her allies we will have less trouble with. We don't consider others to be very useful when we are in charge.”

“Akari-niji-chan is an exception, then,” you reply, stroking her hair and one of her horns lightly.

She shivers lightly and smiles up at you, her carnelian eyes flashing. “Hai, aniki.”
>>
>>35065997
You crouch before them arms resting on your knees. “And is Kiku-chan all right with protecting Kiki-hime over Er Yin-sensei? It is a hard choice....”

Kiku-chan shakes her head. “Aniki is in charge, her words are law. Besides, you will protect us all, however you can. You promised, and I believe in you, aniki. But I wish to know, how will you have us act if they attack?”

[] I'll decide when it happens – it's too vague now.
[] Akari will take on Wakaba, and the rest of us will take out the rif-raf.
[] I'll take out Wakaba and rely on you to deal with the others.
[] I'll circumvent that by issuing a challenge to Wakaba alone if that happens.
[] We'll let Kiki-hime deal with her, since Wakaba is weak to Kiki-hime's power, and show them we can take on anyone.

Since it is Akari Wakaba is obsessed by, it is more likely that they will accept a challange by Akari; if only to try and replace her in Oba-san's design....
>>
Anyone is wondering if Wakaba has some kind of crush on Ryukuza and/or Akari?
>>
>>35066354
Doesn't seem like they interacted much so I kinda doubt it.
>>
[X] Akari is good for this – anything to keep the enemy distracted!

You consider carefully. It's true you've advanced further than you have any right to along the path of your nature, possibly enough to be considered a paragon of Water dragonettes, but you're still weak to Stone. It would look suspicious if you attempted to take on Wakaba yourself right away. “If Wakaba start to cause trouble, or tries to uncover our secrets, Akari-niji-chan will challenge her.” Akari's eyes widen and Kiku-chan looks at her with frank appraisal. “Akari-niji-chan has grown as well, and she has studied with me since we were small, so I have no doubt she can take on Wakaba well enough. You have to do it outside a Barrier, Akari-niji-chan. If a Barrier goes up, we'll have to take them all out and either stuff them into Barriers or kill them all.” On that one point you cannot compromise.

“If things start going very badly, I will take Wakaba out myself, and then you can handle the other oni- and dragon-children. Er Yin-sensei will be primarily taking care of Kiki-hime with Yui-niji-chan as backup; those two have lightning and arrows they can throw, and Er Yin-sensei's magic will help.” It's a fairly flexible plan with plenty of room to work around in. Given that the majority of Clan Ryu dragon-children are Stone, Water, and Void, while the oni-children are Fire and Wood, Kiki-hime and Kiku-chan are definitely assets they won't be ready for. Especially with Kiku-chan being older than most of them and more experienced.

Akari nods slowly. “I will do my best, aniki. You may rely upon me.”
>>
>>35066438
“Do you think Yui-chan will have issues with that?” The question is soft, and from Kiku-chan rather than yourself to your surprise.

Akari immediately shakes her head. “Yui-chan will obey Ryukusa-aniki. She will give her life even if my life is in danger. She belongs to aniki totally, even if she is my wife.” You can't help smile.

We gave her a small bit of our temp Chi, which our body constantly produces. Considering who Yui is and what she has brought to Akari and everyone else in Ryukusa's family, it was an extremely small price to pay.
>>
>>35066981
I never meant to imply otherwise, I was just saying that Yui should have a slight idea of what Ryu is capable of in regards to both mercy and a lack of mercy.

You frown mildly and poke Akari-niji-chan's forehead. “Just because you're indestructible doesn't mean you have permission to get yourself killed either, niji-chan. I need my best friend as much as Yui needs her....husband.” You'll let Yui-chan break the news to Akari. Ah, you have to see about helping her get a ring too. But that's not important right now! “Besides, I wouldn't say she belongs to me as much as she belongs with us all.”

Akari looks at you seriously. “No, aniki.”

You blink at her. “No?”

Akari continues to look at you seriously. “No, aniki.”

Kiku-chan speaks up softly. “Akari-san is right, aniki. Yui-san is an oni whom you have taken into your service. To her, your word really is law, even if she's only an oni-child. One day, you will have to get manacles of your own to put on her, or a collar. Because you will one day be the kami that she serves, as I serve you. You have already accepted her service, you cannot back away from that responsibility.”

You hold up your hands in supplication. “That isn't what I meant, you know.”

Your miko relents a little. “Yes, but that is how Yui-san sees it too. She belongs to you, even if she is Akari-san's wife. So please don't suggest that she isn't yours to her, you might hurt her feelings.”

Akari shakes her head with a slight smile. “No, she knows aniki is not like other people. She won't be offended by such a thing as aniki saying she doesn't belong to aniki. She will ignore it, but she will not be offended by it!”
>>
>>35067036
“As long as she stays alive, I'm all right with that,” you reply. “Aside from that....Kiku-chan. I want you to make especially sure that none of the Void users lay anything long term on us, especially. I don't know how much that was an issue in the past, but it is very common to lay a small, seemingly useless curse on someone to follow back to them later now. A small curse might slip past the charms that Er Yin-sensei gave us, or might be laid on the charm or a weapon, or something not associated with our person that the charm won't protect.”

“I understand, aniki. I'll be especially careful about that.” Kiku considers and then glances over at the others. “Er Yin seems to be done with the princess and the oni, aniki.”

It was more accident than not, but as Ryukusa noted, Yui has her own background of violence and pain which has steeled her to the idea of killing. Ryukusa knows enough about Yui to be certain that Yui could cope with the idea better than Kiki-hime might; she's more concerned about psychological impact of seeing her kill than she is about moral and ethical issues. Ryukusa kills very thoroughly.

>>35066734
If she had not been sealed in the Barrier, she would have died - but by sealign her in a Barrier, a place between the realm of the spirits and the physical world, Ryukusa has separated her from death. Ryukusa's 'curse' will force Hidesato to serve Ryukusa in penance until the debt is paid in place of dying. It's a sneaky way of using a Barrier to prevent a death, but it's a massive karmic indignity, and could have repercussions as such (and is thus a terrible idea to use to save a loved one - it's a violation of the natural order, which is why it's a 'curse').

It requires a short ritual (anywhere from 5-30 seconds), and it's utterly binding. She will serve to the letter and spirit of the demand Ryukusa makes. Hence why Barrier Combat is never trained in - too easy to fuck up people's lives in too many ways.
>>
[X] Give them a short break, talk to Er Yin.
[X] Go over and see what havoc they've been taught to wreak.

“I'm going to tell your sister you called her that, Kiku-chan,” you warn her, smiling.

Her cheeks color, but she glares at you. “Baka-dragon, don't you dare!”

“That's more like it, you were sounding way too reasonable. Go ahead and take it easy, I'[m going to talk to Er Yin and see how much trouble those two can cause now.” It's early to expect too much, but considering Kiki-hime's repressed power and Yui's cleverly hidden intelligence, you suspect they're both going to be very easy to teach powers to. Control and stamina are the hard parts to learn.

“Hai aniki,” the two dragonettes say in unison, and they hop and slide off the rock, respectively, and follow you back to where Er Yin is standing and looking up at the sun. Well, facing the sun, at least. Yui is lying back in the grass, looking pleasantly exhausted and holding onto something that looks like a cross between a spear, a trident, and a sword; Kiki-hime is looking at the grass in front of her and concentrating, it looks like.

Akari goes to Yui who props herself on her elbows and starts talking animatedly, her glowing eyes bright and her happiness vividly painted across her entire being; Kiku-chan walks over to her sister and kneels, speaking softly, while Kiki-hime smiles and blushes, replying in soft tones as well.

So do we have bad karma now, or is it alright since we got the divine right to do that to her?

No its a indignity we inflict on her.

I'm interpreting 'karmic indignity' as your karma indicated it was your time of death, and you've upset the balance by staying that.

Because we weren't trying to cheat death, but rather force her to repay her debt, I don't think ryukusa will be stained by it.
>>
[X] Ask her how things went as you approach.
[X] Run your fingers along that incredible tail as you walk up.
[X] Ask Er yin how long you have before they arrive, and run your fingers down her back firmly.

Er Yin is possibly the most well defined dragonette you know. As in, damn, she's got muscles. Yui-chan is muscular, but it's hidden under her softness; Akari is strong, but it's supernatural; you've got the sleek build of a swimmer, smooth and svelte. Er Yin works out in some manner and it shows.

“It went well, Er Yin-sensei?” you ask softly as you walk towards her. Her tail slowly curls over, the long, massive silver and black fleshed length eerily silent as it nears you. You slide your hand along the metal plates near the tip, and then to the softer black and silver flesh. She is smooth in a way most other dragonettes are not, her scales more like metal plates where they're defined at all. Her tail slowly slides away as your hand moves along it, the coils of it rising to allow you that contact.

“they are both wonderful students, Ryukusa-sama. I am pleased to teach them both; they are very eager and attentive. I did not expect them to take to it so well.” She arches a little and shivers as your hand slides from tail to lower back, to be joined by another. You move up behind her and press hard into her smoothly muscled back, enjoying the feel of her muscles relaxing under the pressure of your fingertips.

“They both have a great deal to protect, Er Yin-sensei. I'd be surprised if they didn't take to your teaching eagerly. Oni-children aren't as dumb as a lot of people think they are, just crude and undisciplined in their natures. And Kiki-hime....I think she worries about me too much. I have the feeling that she's not learning for her own sake as much as for mine, you know?” It's pretty obvious really. You really can imagine her doing this simply for her own sake anymore, despite how you used to think of her.
>>
>>35068398
Er Yin sighs as you run your fingers down her back with equal pressure, her tail sliding around your leg and the cool tip stroking your spine slowly. “That does seem to be very true. I would expect nothing less of Inari.”

That reminds you of something you wanted to ask before, but you ask the more pressing question. “How long before they get here? I'd hate to be surprised in the middle of something fun.” Er Yin's liquid laughter is genuine. “I want to try and at least get a little more defensive training done, especially around you and Kiki-hime.”

She considers carefully and makes a slight gasp as you slide your hands around her waist and hug her from behind. Her cool talons cover your hands as she hugs your arms, your cheek pressed along her upper shoulders, her tail lazily twining with yours. “I would say....no sooner than an hour. When they get within a ~li~....ah, sorry....”

“I know how far that is, Er Yin-sensei,” you murmur to her, your fingers tracing her hard abdominals. Once you heard Kiku-chan convert it, your Water mind kept the conversion formula handy. It's around a quarter of a mile. By that time, you, Akari and Kiku-chan will have noticed them. Hmm, Yui's are harder definitely, but there's a sense of definition that Er Yin has that is just....yummy.

“Really? I am impressed. Yes, within one ~li~ I will sense them directly, but then the spell will end. So, no less than an hour, and no more than two, is my guess. I cannot tell you who else will accompany Ryuu Wakaba, for which I am sorry.”

A shake of your head reassures the Void dragonette. “No, there is no reason to be sorry for that. It's to be expected of them. Still, that you can do this is a great help. But I had a question. About Horobi.” She tilts her head, her strangely soft talons tracing cool, meaningless things on the back of your hand. “Surely he had other servants aside from Inari. What became of them?”
>>
>>35068430
She hesitates, but it's more from fear of disappointing you, you suspect, than unwillingness. “Yes, there were dragons and oni and devils that served Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado. His death released and freed many of them to their own means. I imagine most simply left to seek other kami to serve, or returned to the kamuy. Some may have been slain, and others sent to Yomi. It is difficult to find records of those times in this world, and not much less so in the Celestial Court of the Emperor, may he live Ten Thousand times Ten Thousand years.”

It is not the answer you hoped for, but there's still some opportunity in that. As you consider that, you inform Er Yin-sensei of the general idea of what should happen when Wakaba shows her face, and it doesn't take long for her to grasp the reasoning or the necessities. “I'll want to talk to Yui and Kiki-hime a bit, before we get started again though.”

“Of course, Ryukusa-sama.” She accompanies you over to the others; you grab a water bottle and chill it as you join Kiku-chan and Kiki-hime, near Akari and Yui. “I hear you learned....what is that, Yui?”

“It's a septum-”

Er Yin smiles and corrects her gently. “Spetum.”

“It's a spittem, aniki!” She holds up the odd weapon – a Western weapon, it seems. It is a straight sword blade affixed to a haft that is equally long, with two crescent blades that curve up rather than a tsuba hilt. You thought it might be a nagamaki at first, but its not curved. This one seems to have joins along the small hilt-blades and the haft where it meets the sword. A folding weapon, not one of your favorites for a real fight. “Er Yin-sensei taught me how to use it to focus the Void through!” You glance at Akari who shrugs mildly, though Kiki-hime is smiling fondly at Yui. Kiku-chan is similarly unimpressed as you are.

[X] That's mildly terrifying, Yui.
[X] Well, if Er Yin-sensei said so, it can't be helped.
[x] She did mention it would be useful or important earlier.

You blink and then glance at Er Yin-sensei, recalling her words earlier concerning the box she'd carried – it's obvious that is is what was in it, or was the box was meant to be given it is a folding weapon. You're not quite sure why she didn't keep it in ~Nowhere~ but you suspect she had some reason. “Well, if it is Er Yin-sensei, it can't be helped. Though the idea of you actually focusing the Void with a weapon is a little frightening to me, Yui-chan. You're not a small power, and I would know.”

Yui-chan glows at your gentle praise and Akari leans her head against her lover's gently, pleased as well.

“And what of you, Kiki-hime? I have no doubt you've learned a trick or two....” You smile and she leans down and holds her hand against the ground. The sight of the branches above you moving – no longer with the wind, but now against it, on their own – is mildly frightening, especially from someone with nearly no training. “....yikes.”

Kiki-hime laughs and the spell is broken. “She is teaching me to control the living world as well as to change that which is no longer part of it, Ryu-chan. I can already use a spear, but now I can do the thing the Monkey King can do!” She takes a twig, and instantly it becomes a bo staff, thicker in the middle and slightly tapering at the ends. It changes slightly, becoming a straight staff, longer, with a decorative and very sharp looking end. “She says I'll be able to change the colors and appearance, eventually.”
>>
>>35069018
It seems they've started on their way at least – they're no warriors of the clan by a long shot, but they aren't helpless either – not that Yui was ever helpless, but every little bit counts. “That's perfect....we'll get you bow strings soon, and then....oh.” Akari, it seems, has beaten you to that punch already; she hands Kiki-hime two bow strings and a small case filled with rather deadly looking arrowheads. “Making me look bad, Akari-niji-chan.”

“Yes, aniki.”

“Hey now! Well, lets avoid trying it without practice, Kiki-hime. I want everyone to work on team building now.” That gets everyone's attention, and you start going over the basics of what you want. “Kiki-hime is the most important; Yui will be her escape route, so Yui stays close to her. Er Yin will guard her back directly, and will work on illusions and people who come to close....Kiku-chan and I....”

It doesn't take long to show what you want, and how you want it done. While you don't have enough people to actually give a good workout, you, Kiku-chan, and Akari take turns attacking the group, letting the rest remain as part of the group so that it is one-on-five. Kiku-chan's speed, Akari's strength, and your tactical acumen turn the fights into something resembling dangerous, and it turns out that the weapon in Yui's hands grants her some advantage in combat; you do force her to switch to her taiko sticks, though, just to make sure she can act effectively without the weapon as much as you can.
>>
>>35069041
It is Akari who indicates they're coming first. She makes a quick gesture as you rush in for an attack, and you give her the slight nod of acknowledgement. Her earth-bound senses and Stone Eyes make it easier for her to sense approaching enemies. To your surprise it is Kiki-hime who notices them next.

“Ryu-chan....some people are moving through the trees!” she says, alarmed despite the fact you'd all discussed it earlier. Though it could be the sensation itself is alarming – you wouldn't know if that were the case!

[X] Call a halt to practice and get ready to rumble!
[X] Right, call those stupid fuckers out, they're making a mess!

They're still too far away fro you to sense them through normal means, and with all the trees sensing them through their water isn't going to help – and the Water dragon-children might notice – so you ignore that aspect of things in favor of kicking aside Yui's weapon while you try and slip between her and Er Yin to grab Kiki-hime. Kiki, being off guard in her panic, yelps as Er Yin sweeps her off her feet with a leg and blocks your second kick with and arm, then brings her tail up and around to slam you to the ground. You grab her tail and hoist yourself over it as it slams to the ground without you underneath, and you pointedly place your figner at your lips for Kiki-hime.

She blushes and nods, then grabs a handful of grass and hurls it at you. Except what she grabbed and what gets hurled at you are two different things – you manage to block all but two of the razor sharp blades of grass with your left arm and sleeve, one slicing your cheek lightly and the other ricochet off your horn with a loud PING. “Remember that one works really well against oni, Kiki-hime,” you call out to her as you roll to the side, fending off Kiku-chan's fast hands with your own.

The feel of Yui's blade against the back of your neck and her cry of “Ippon!” is good enough for you, and you call for a halt of practice. Kiku-chan grips Er Yin's hand, and you can tell by the movement she's updating the dragonette on the plan, or something equally silent and important. “Right, everyone take a few drinks, not too much, and stay close. Kiki-hime, Yui-chan, Sensei, central; Kiku-chan, Akari, on duty.” Akari walks up, off to your right, while Kiku-chan positions herself behind the others, looking determined, and she can look awfully determined despite her loli-looks.

“Okay Ryuu Wakaba, you're calling attention to my principle, and that really pisses me off. What the heaven are you doing here?” You look directly towards her, though she's quite impossible for you to detect at the moment. Water Eyes, however, will see enough despite her nature because Water Eyes is part of your nature.

“Ahahaha....can't fool the famous Ryuu Ryukusa it seems!” Her high pitched voice is a little irritating, and she leaps out of the tree and lands before you, her nodachi clutched in one hand – her left – and held behind her slightly. She's gripping the middle of the sheath, so it wouldn't be an easy draw, but then again, she could just hit you with the sheath. She rises and runs a hand through her soft white hair. “Wow, you have a wild bunch of people with you!”

More people arriving, all standing behind her, stepping from behind trees or leaping from the branches. Fourteen all told – three Void dragonettes, two Fire oni-children, three Wood oni-children, four Water dragon-children, two Stone dragon-children. They're scatters, but all on one side, and you hear your family shifting positions. By and large they're well trained, only somewhat experienced warriors of Clan Ryo, and that suits you fine. Ryuu Wakaba, on the other hand....

This is a young woman who is very, very dangerous. She's got a sense of entitlement that spans the sky, and the lack of recognition she's suffered, real or not, has twisted her spirit into a warped, ugly, dangerous thing. She's obsessed with her standing in the clan, and that obsession found a target in Hebiki Akari, who seems to have found special favor with Oba-san in Wakaba's eyes, and Wakaba sees that as not merely a betrayal or a slight, but an outright statement of how she is not worthy of Oba-san's attention. And that not-wound has turned into a violation of her spirit and what might have been righteous indignation in another has become a psychopathic hate in Wakaba.

But if Akari has supplanted her place in Wakaba's eyes, you are the reason for that – you, who are supposed to be under the cautious watchful eyes of a Stone dragonette, someone who can kill you on Oba-san's orders. Where Akari has stolen her glory, you are the challenge that Akari could defeat in her place. For now, she is doing as Oba-san has ordered, but how tight those wires of obligation hold her is very hard to say. Her poisoned heart strains against Oba-san's control with every heartbeat.

[X] You know, you're being a little bit of a bitch here, babe.

You narrow your eyes slightly, noting that several people have noticed they;re far more draconic than most others tend to be, and tuck your hands into your sleeves appropriately. “I have an important mission. I take every precaution.” You feel Akari's smile more than notice it – you're watching the reaction of the others. The oni-children all recognize the line, and the trio of Void dragonettes look exceedingly worried now. Two other dragon-children recognize the line as well, and smirk, while the oni-children snort and shake their heads.

“Ahah, that is so, is it? Well, Oba-san asked me to look in on you. You're very hard to find, Ryukusa-san! Someone suspicious might think you were trying to hide from us!” Wakaba cradles her sword and leans on it – it's as tall as she is, which is not exactly that much for a dragonette, but for a sword it's pretty long. You're taller though and you gaze at her stoically. “I didn't bother you toooo much did I?” She smirks, and bats her eyelashes at you.

“Then you can tell Oba-san we're incommunicado. Because: reasons.” You can sense Akari hiding that laughter under her placid expression; she's claimed you're the only person in the whole world who can actually speak using colons. “Her lack of appreciation for my methods isn't important to me. She can bother to pick up a phone and call me if it really bugs her that much.” It'll never happen – you suspect her nature as a kamuy makes it impossible for her to use such modern devices. If you hadn't known that she was a kamuy you would have thought it was just an age thing.

Wakaba's soulless yellow eyes narrow and she smiles. It totally doesn't reach her eyes. It barely reaches her mouth. “Well, since Oba-san didn't want to call you, she sent me! Isn't that nice of her? She does care about you, a lot....” Those near glowing eyes flick to Akari, who is simply observing the other clan members. “Enough to bring in a total outsider as your assistant!”

“If that's all you needed, Wakaba-san, then we're done here. My people are busy, and you're not exactly helping us keep a low profile, to be honest.” Oh, that's not good. Her expression didn't change at all, but the implied incompetence riled her quite badly on the inside. It wouldn't take much to press her into a bad place at all. Several of her subordinates are looking very nervous now, and the oni are starting to fidget. The Void dragonettes are very cautiously keeping their hands visible and relaxed. They're both ready for a fight and trying not to antagonize you.

You sigh and pinch the bridge of your nose, relaxed, calm, unconcerned. “I am sure you're busy, and I realize you haven't actually answered my question. Still, it isn't that important.”

She looks hurt. “But I did answer your question, Ryukusa-saaaaan! Oba-san was worried of course!” Her teeth are sharp. Naturally sharp, dragon sharp. She's bitten someone before, you can see it in her spirit. And not the fun kind of biting.

It's my first job for Oba-san, and really it's a clusterfuck. So, we can catch up later, in a safer location, if that's all right with you, Wakaba-san?” While none of them are using their Eyes on you – and you wouldn't have tried that line of utter bullshit if they had been – you're absolutely certain the matagama about your neck, under the black silk blouse, will prevent any truth-seeing spells from working.

More importantly, the gesture focuses eyes on you and your hand, rather than the hand with which you signal Kiku-chan to prepare her power to counter any magics in use. The last thing you need is those Void dragonettes unleashing magic around you.

“That's especially kind of you, Ryukusa-san! I hope you'll meet me in a nicer place than this! You can never tell what might happen in a lonely forest such as this, especially if someone got hurt!” Those gleaming eyes slide to Akari, who looks nonplussed by the hinted threat. “Besides, maybe I can talk to you about something that reaaaaly matters instead of what Oba-san wants me to talk about.” Her eyes glitter malevolently, and she has to actually work at tearing them from Akari. “Say, in a few days? I can call you if you like!”

You smile, a genuine smile. “That's be cool. Say, what was Oba-san so worried about anyways? She's not the worrying type, I thought.” You would have preferred a more adversarial or through question, but Wakaba is losing it faster than you anticipated.

Wakaba laughs again, that slightly grating unreal laugh of hers. “Would you believe she thought you'd run away with Kiki-hime? I mean, everyone knows you like the girls,” she says, looking at Kiki-hime, who is blushing deeply and who sticks her nose up snootily and stamps her foot, hands at her sides, the perfect picture of an offended aristocrat. “But not even you could possibly go for ~that kind~ of girl!” Her implied knowledge of Kiki-hime's slutty behavior for her otaku fans is clear through Water Eyes.

It's good to know the charms are working though.

You stare at Ryuu Wakaba and then shake your head, suppressing the urge to laugh. She'd undoubtedly take that as you laughing at her, and that would be very, very bad you have the feeling. “Wakaba-san.....don't worry....over it. Tell Oba-san we're fine, and that should be good enough.” Man the urge to make quips is strong against this one. It's like a beehive you want to poke with a stick. “As for next time, maybe not quite so many people. They're good, but you really need to work with some better subordinates who can keep up with your skills.”

She tilts her head and smiles, a much more dangerous, much less sane smile than you had anticipated the compliment getting. “Do you really think I'm that much better, Ryukusa-san? Because I'd love to show you how good I am....”

Thank for running!

Dang, if we ever fight her, we need to tear her mind with our razor wit.

Is there any way to make her less crazy?

Wakaba 'punishment' when?
I'm sure we have a paddle somewhere.

Answer for a question:

Lockign someone in a barrier is bad juju. It's basically a form of enslavement. Certainly, you could let them go an not demand anything, but that's a huge loss of face, and it's usually safer and better to make the demands. That sense of obligation will still be there, demand or not, and the deeper the Barrier, the greater the loss of face/more powerful the demand may be.

Because of how Rykusa worded the 'curse' of her Barrier, it is an attempt to redeem Hidesato, whom she almost killed. As a result, she is not going to be in trouble as long as she makes a reasonable and clear effort to demand something that serves as redemption for Hidesato's betrayals and condemnation for harming innocents. Ryukusa could make several demands, if they were in that vein, and alleviate some of Hidesato's own karmic debtr. If she abuses that power over Hidesato, notice will be taken (remember, Barriers are right next door to the pure spirit world where the kami live) and she may be warned or even incur the wrath of the kami.

Glad everyone is enjoying. The smoke is still bad, but a couple days without has help, despite doctors shoving things down my throat.

Ryukusa can only tell she is a spychopath, not what makes her that way or why, just how she is one and what manners she is psychopathic in. The others may have more insight.

>>35071322
Good question. Anon has been very gentle with her so far.

Kiki, especially.
>>
>>35071402
Well if she avoids too many more insults and delays, maybe she can escape with her buttocks still pale and pristine.
>>
>>35071426
....for a moment there I thought you meant Ryukusa.
>>
>>35071426
I dunno anon, I really wanna slap that derrière by now.

>>35071454
Hey now, Wakaba is definitely not on the approved list for that!
>>
>>35071507
The only one on the approved list for that is Akari+Yui together. And that's if she asks nicely.
>>
>>35071565
>Er-Yin leaves the party for not getting time with Ryukusa's buttocks and a paddle
>BAD END
>>
>>35071565
Huh. How do we expand this list?
>>
>>35071600
Haha, exactly my thinking anon. Kiku is too M and Kiki too gentle after all.

Maybe, just MAYBE, you could use it as an enticement for Er Yin for a favor. Why you would ever need to do that I haven't the foggiest, but stranger things happen in the quest, regularly.

Goodnight, all. Thank you for the support and reading.

Meet Akari's older sister.
