You are Sireyi Valyenya, 21 years old, you have been made into a Baroness, and given lands on the border of the kingdom.
You’re busy solving the problems only a ruler has.

Currently you're on an expedition to the drowned remains of a once great empire.

After running madly through corridors for several minutes you and your companions escape the collapsing building.

You join the escaped cat-folk outside to watch the building – and most of the compound fall around you. The deathly chill of the place fades too.

“Why?” asks one of the healthier-looking cat-folk.

“Why what?” you ask.

“Why help us?” he says “You’re an outlander”.

“I couldn’t let anyone suffer like that” you say after a moment of thought.

The cat-folk, an older male, shakes his head in disbelief and starts gathering the rest of his people, herding them towards the jungle.

“Wait!” you say as the cat-folk leave, some still badly injured “I can help you.” They keep walking.

“I’m not your enemy” you say as the cat-folk continue to leave, none of them even look back.

You consider flying after them, only to have Master Fedwin accost you “ruined!” he wails “destroyed – you paladins are all alike, violent thugs – why?!”

“Hey!” interrupts Jianxi, grabbing him by the collar and yanking him face to face with her “We almost died in there, so don’t start whining about whatever arcane secrets you just lost, ok?”
>>
Easy, easy” you say, separating the two of them, just as Master Fedwins face goes red, ready to retort.

“Master Fedwin” you say “I’m sorry that the place was destroyed, but we faced quite a tough foe in there” you outline what happened, after getting Jianxi to let go.

Master Fedwin is fascinated and spends a long time questioning you about everything you saw, eventually he lets you be.

The scholars and wizards set up camp around the ruins and the soldiers with you establish lookouts and a camp with some makeshift fortifications.

The next month is spent watching the scholars and wizards take apart the rubble piece by piece and catalogue everything. You suffer no attacks by the cat-folk in that time.

Rising Moon is slowly starting to accept Jianxi and Matthias as surrogate parents: He and Matthias can often be seen playing in an evening and you see Jianxi teaching him unarmed combat occasionally.

It would be incredibly boring, except....Isla is clearly enthused about some of the finds and spends every evening telling you all about the strange and esoteric magical discoveries they’ve found. Some days you spend digging through the rubble with her.

The problem is that these wizards and scholars don’t seem to care that a lot of the magics they’re trying to puzzle out are evil necromancy – specifically necromancy that involves draining life from others, creating undead slaves and harming others.

Perhaps due to your new powers, or your knowledge of the Huroni magic, you are able to understand the magical items and spells they are recovering much better than anyone else.

So far you’ve kept your unique insight hidden from everyone: some of the things they have dug up are horrifying and you’re not sure you want anyone figuring out how they work.
>>
“And I don’t know how the inscribed rod keeps the bearer healthy” says Isla to you one evening, “But if it works they way we think it does, it could mean an end to disease across the entire kingdom!” She begins to describe all the good that could come from the discoveries they are making.

>I’m happy for you (don’t explain)

>Well, look at it this way: if you died, you would be completely unable to learn anything from this place, or any other for that matter. This way you can at least sift through the rubble.
>>
>>35082825

>This is how it works

soo... are these ruins related to the elemental core manufacturers... how? Same people? Mirror universe bearded clones? Completely different civilizations?
>>
>>35082847
The Huroni and the Necromancer-Kings of the Sunken Empire are different civilizations/groups.

The Huroni never really left their home plane, given that they were wiped out when it was taken over by the demon lords, while the Sunken Empire stretched across many planes.

They were both evil bastards as far as what their civilizations did goes, these guys just went a bit further and focused on necromancy.

It's possible the Sunken Empire, or whatever it's real name is, was formed by Huroni remnants.

I don't think so, however, since the Huroni's main thing was that they fused Divine and Arcane energy, while the Necromancer-Kings are entirely on the Arcane end of the spectrum.

>>35082825
>Explain how it works, but ask her not to tell anyone else.
>>
“It works by draining the life force of the bearer to power itself.” you explain to Isla as the two of you stay up late by the fire chatting over her discoveries. It’s time she heard more about the discoveries she’s making. “It doesn’t appear obvious because one of its powers is to make the bearer feel healthier and stronger.”

“It can also be charged by bathing it in fresh blood” you continue, as Isla looks at you with a shocked expression “Though you might need to kill a person to give it enough energy to last for a year. So the bearer either faces a reduced lifespan in return for their health or would need to injure or kill others regularly.”

The Necromancer Kings (or Lords of Life, or whatever they were) seem to use similar principles as the Huroni when it comes to their magical items and powers.

The difference is the Huroni drew power from naturally occurring magical sources such as the elements, the Necromancer Kings devices draw theirs from living creatures. In addition the Huroni seemed to use both arcane and divine magics, whilst the Necromancer Kings (or at least their servants) focused purely on arcane magic.

Did they have a common origin? Did they just reach the same conclusion using different methods? You don’t know.

Isla nods as you explain, her eyes looking back and forth “Yes...” she says “That makes sense.”

“Please don’t tell anyone” you say “This is dangerous stuff.”

“Sireyi” asks Isla “How do you know this? You could be invaluable to figuring these devices out.” She looks at you hungrily.

“The Huroni used similar magic” you say to Isla, explaining about the long-dead civilisation on the other plane. You’ve explained some of this to her already but she listens raptly as you explain how they drew magical energy from the lands around them and used into to power their devices.

“The Necromancer Kings seem to use the same principles” you say “But drawing power from living things rather than the land. And the devices we’ve found so far are...”

You’re looking for a way to say evil, without insulting Isla.

“,,fascinating” says Isla “If we can find out how to use these devices, think of what we could do.”

A lot of harm accidentally, you think to yourself.

“But that doesn’t explain” she says “How you can figure them out and wizards who’ve studied it their whole lives can’t.”

“My new powers” you say “I mean, take this rod” you remove it from her hands “Any mage looking at this with the right spell can see that it’s necromantic magic, and the really smart ones like you” Isla blushes slightly at your words “can see that it reinforces the health and strength of the bearer.”

You pause “Whereas I can see that, and I can see how it draws a tiny amount of life from anyone holding it, I can see the residual energies of blood spilled upon it, the lives sacrificed to it, I can see how the energy it drains as it becomes active will slowly kill its bearer over many years. Magic just....seems simpler now.”

“Will I be able to do that one day, do you think?” asks Isla, longing in her voice.

“Probably” you say with a grin “You always were a lot smarter than me.”

“I hope so” she says, taking the rod out of your hand.

“Isla” you say “Most of what has been taken out of the rubble is either dangerous, or involves killing, hurting or enslaving others, I think its best left alone.”

Isla shakes her head “Knowledge isn’t evil, just the uses people find for it.”

“I agree with you” you say “knowledge isn’t evil but how would you make use of something like this rod without doing something evil?”

As Isla considers your question you press on “While knowledge itself is not evil, much of their magical creations are specifically powered by evil means, sacrifice in this case. So, how do you propose actually using this, any of this, without hurting people? You should think about it now, not later when it gets into the hands of people who are evil.”

“I’m not just going to hand it out to anyone” says Isla, folding her arms across her chest and looking at you over the tops of her glasses “I’d make sure only the right people could use this, I’m aware that there’s plenty of uneducated nobles who would give these to their soldiers and not tell anyone.”

“And yet someone wicked could still get their hands on it” you say “Or on one of the other devices – like the cage-chair thing that makes people relive their worst memories, or the references we found to something called a *Cauldron of Life* that can supposedly grant immortality at the cost of hundreds of lives. What will happen when someone else gets their hands on it?”

Isla thinks this over “The mages guilds” she says “Will make sure everything that can be used responsibly will be, and the things that can’t, will be locked away!” She looks at you smugly.

I was actually going to add in
>Priests aren't either

But that brings up a good question. In a realm where Gods actually exist and are quite powerful... How does that deal with corruption of religious figures? Can a priest become evil? Or will their god kill them or even simply take away their powers and warn others of their faith about the traitor? I'm quite curious how that works... because if Priests are actually incorruptible then it changes things.

So, if Priests can be corrupted add

Let's just make Vaelya the main measure of good and reference to her if/when neededto determine what's goor or evil.
>>
>>35083390
While I agree as far as the measure goes. That also would make us kinda the de facto safekeeper of certain knowledge and that could easily be seen as attempting to accumulate power our self, by the king and nobility. Though obviously it would be safest with us, I just see that line of action causing us issues, even if it is the best course of action.

>>35083390
Velya prefers letting mortals make their own decisions, IIRC.
Even if she would do this, it would be best to try and solve the problem ourselves first.

>>35083367
Most of Yerra's followers are magic users of some sort, and it's fairly likely that mages prefer worshiping him over other gods, but I can't recall the Mage's Guild itself being dedicated to him.
>>
>>35083440
Still, the mortals of a religious organization in charge of ethical use of magic is a viable thing. It's just a matter of politics, really.
>>
>>35083440
I think I got that idea during the Stronghold building thread. I vaguely recall a temple or something to Yerra being likened as a Mage's Guild. Don't hold me to that though lol
>>
“How will they do that?” you ask.

“The same way they restrict such knowledge now” she explains “You remember you had be find out everything I could about demon lords? I didn’t tell you at the time but it took a while to get access to those books – I had to speak to a lot of senior mages before they’d let me at them.”

“So the senior mages would control access” you say “Shouldn’t someone who doesn’t stand to benefit from it say who can and cannot use this magic?”

“The senior mages are our wisest and most powerful members” says Isla “you don’t get to be a Master if you’re easily swayed, or weak.”

“Not all mages are good people” you say “necromancers, demon-worshippers, many have seemed decent until they were revealed to be otherwise. And this entire empire was once ruled by mages.”
“So you think anyone who doesn’t serve in a church is corruptible” says Isla, her voice rising in volume.

You shake your head “Don’t be foolish Isla: just as priests can do evil acts in the name of a good cause – or become outright evil, so too can mages. Yerra doesn’t prohibit his priests or followers from using evil magics, for example.”

“Don’t call me foolish!” flares Isla “Just because I don’t have your oh-so-special perfect understanding, doesn’t mean I’m stupid!”

It's not safe to put all the responsibility in one organization, there have to be checks and balances. Also, policing of and enforcement against forbidden magics.

...Might need to include the king in matters of enforcement as well.

[Meta]

Whilst vote is ongoing...

Priests of good gods *can* become corrupt. The higher ranking a priest is the more attention they receive from their god – making evil/corrupt high priests rare.

Lower ranking priests do not receive oversight from their deity – though the church may watch its members.

In addition some priests who worship evil gods can pretend to be priests of a good god – and many have carried on such deceptions for years.

The Church of Yerra does not include all mages as members – much as it would like to. However the Church is heavily involved with mages guilds just as the Church of Konig is involved with the kingdoms military.

In short the two organisations (mages and church) are not one and the same, but there is a lot of overlap. Yerra is a neutral deity with good leanings: He doesn’t turn away evil followers, but prefers good ones, though anyone with a love of knowledge and magic is welcome.

Also, fuck autocorrect.

So how does all that fit in with the mage guild harboring dangerous magical knowledge? Do the churches have a say in things? Are they privy to the information, and able to recognize it's use?
>>
“I trust you Isla” you say, putting your hands on her shoulders and staring into her eyes “I’m not saying you can’t be trusted, just faceless people I’ve never met.”

“I suppose” she says, eventually meeting your gaze, and looking troubled.

“The mages will figure the specifics of this magic sooner or later.” You say “Maybe you will be first to tell them, if you feel it's the right thing to do. Myself, I would have been more comfortable if they left it buried.”

“I think the mages guilds and the churches will need to work together to safeguard this magic.” You say to Isla “As it is, nothing's left but hope that people in charge of safekeeping the knowledge will be true to their principles.”

“Sounds like a recipe for argument and deadlock” observes Isla wryly “A committee arguing endlessly over every little decision, still, I suppose it’s the only way to stop the ignorant and the fearful from locking everything away forever.”

With the friction between the two of you smoothed over, you spend the rest of the evening occupied with...other matters.

Timeskip

With your speed and ability to fly above the jungle you are often called upon to carry messages back and forth between your camp and the base camp by the beach.

Because of this you are well informed about what’s happening on the other islands. The other expedition groups have come across buildings like those you have found, in various states of disrepair.

Some have found old and desiccated cocoons like the one you found; within them was either nothing, or long dead skeletons.

One expedition did find another giant insect thing also calling itself the *Highest* - over 200 people died to kill it.

Still the expedition is mainly seen as a success, and in the last month the attacks of undersea undead have completely stopped.
>>
A smaller, faster ship has been tasked with making regular trips outside of the area where teleportation doesn’t work in order for mages to regularly teleport back to Dornmer with updates about the expedition and to receive news from Dornmer.

Sofia has been providing written reports about the Barony and everything appears to be going well.

Her latest reports alluded to political trouble with some of the neighbouring baronies however. Today you have received a written missive that simply says:

“We need to talk, can you arrange this?”

The only things currently recognised as dangerous magical knowledge are necromancy and demon-related magics.

Necromancy requires a license to learn or use and demon-worship is a crime.

Summoning demons isn't a crime, but the mage is held responsible for anything the summoned demon does.

Also some of the churches are pushing for demon-summoning to be made into a crime, but have yet to succeed.

This sounds serious so you decide to go alone. You find Sofia’s dreams easily enough: she’s standing on the wall of your stronghold watching Mili and Vivi playing in the gardens below. Around you the stronghold and the town looks cleaner and brighter than the real version.

You walk up and say “Hello Sofia”

Sofia jumps into the air and comes down facing you, her white dress briefly replaced by armour and a longsword before she recognises you.

“Oh Sireyi!” she says, breathing quickly “You startled me, can’t you tell me when you’re going to do that?”

“Do you want a peal of bells, a fanfare of trumpets to herald my arrival?” you ask jokingly

Sofia giggles “Just a knock would do.”

“Your note sounded pretty urgent.” You say

“Oh yes, that” says Sofia, her white dress changing to a more formal and ornate cut.

“The neighbouring baronies” she says “Want us to forbid people from coming to live in ours. Due to all the money we’ve spent on hospitals, houses we’ve built, made sure there is trade - and food, a lot of common folk across the kingdom see our barony as a desirable place to live. As a result many other domains are losing their young workers and craftsmen – its worse in the nearby baronies because not many can afford to move from far away realms, but those nearby are losing their best people to us.”

“How do they expect us to do that?” you ask

Sofia shrugs “They weren’t specific, though some suggested we close some of the hospitals, and stop building cheap housing for people.”

>Alright, institute anti-immigration measures (what?)
>No, we’ve done nothing wrong
>Tell them this can wait until I get back, and speak with the concerned lords myself

It would make it easier to spot crazy wizards among 'harmless' summonings, if there was some sort of demon-summoning-surveillance enchantment in place. And it would deter a few less crazy and more overconfident wizards even without such a gimmick.

“I think this is a problem best handled in person” you say to Sofia “tell the Barons that you’ve told me about their concerns and I will address them when I return. In the meantime, offer to lend then money or hire out our teams of builders if they want to start emulating our successes in their own domains.

Sofia snorts “Oh they’ll love that, many of them seem to think commoners are little more than animals – that if you do anything to make their lives easier they’ll get fat, lazy and useless.”

You and Sofia talk for some time. You tell her about the expedition, and she tells you about the realm.

Your realm has no new issues other than the one discussed, and the bandit problem is slowly disappearing. The five orc/beastmen tribes are still growing and conquering their neighbours, but far slower than before.

Mili and Vivi are doing well: Mili has taken to climbing anything she can, and Vivi is stringing together full sentences.

All it takes is one mage or paladin or priest curious as to why she lost her red skin tone and suddenly gained angel wings. Is it possible that noone has noticed the change in over a month? Sure, wouldn't bet on it though.

As far as I remember we have been away from the Paladin part of the group since then. And if someone happened to do it, he probably didn't make a big deal out of it.
Her turning celestial-blooded is even less strange then her having become demonic all of a sudden.

Fucking wizards man. No sense of right and wrong.
>>
>>35084123
That's like saying a wizard running for president is less strange than an invasion by early sci-fi movie aliens.

A part-demon becoming a part-angel is a much rarer event in-universe, given the rarity of the Heaven's Rebirth power, and none of them knew she wasn't born a part-demon, so that part wasn't weird to them before.
>>
>>35084170
>A part-demon becoming a part-angel is a much rarer event in-universe
Polymorph spells aren't though.
>>
>>35084185
A polymorph spell is temporary and doesn't change the fundamental nature of a being.
>>
>>35084187
How exactly would they know how lasting and fundamental this change is ?
>>

Which would still beg the question of why the half-demon was shifted into a partial angelic form. One would would expect someone to at least mention it.

Why would she keep the horns and tail if it was just a polymorph spell?

Why would she sprout wings instead of just using a flight spell?
Especially since anyone that's seen her fly would be able to tell she's having difficulty flying with wings.
>>
>>35084222
She is the wizard girlfriend of a half-celestial storm-wizardess who impregnated two women already. I doubt the "giving her wings" seems strange to them at this point.

You feel a blush forming on your cheeks as you stammer out “That’s not...we haven’t...she’s not...I mean...ah...let me rephrase that.”

As Sofia laughs at the misunderstanding, you explain about how Isla’s near-death bought the two of you closer and how you’ve transformed her from a part-demon to a part-angel.

Sofia looks intrigued “So you can turn people into angels now?” she asks

“Not full angels I think” you say “At least not yet, I’ve not fully explored what I can do, though I can grant people some powers, I guess, make them a bit more like me maybe.”

Sofia grins, and for a moment, looks a little like Jal “So you like putting a little bit of yourself in others, eh? Any other women we should know about?”

You decide to move on before the blush comes back “Most people haven’t really reacted much to Isla being a part-demon and then a part angel.” You say hurriedly “I don’t think the mages really care and the knights and paladins avoid Isla anyway – no one has asked me about it at least. And the soldiers, well, I expect they’ve seen the mages do stranger things.”

“That’s what you’ve seen” points out Sofia “What has Isla seen.”

You pause as you realise you haven’t asked Isla about others reactions to her.

“And how far have you gone with Isla?” asks Sofia slyly. Ah, there’s your blush again.

“Ah.....” you say eloquently as Sofia continues “And is Isla just going to be with you, or have you asked her whether she wants to be with me and Jal as well?”

You didn’t know your hair could blush, but there it is, going from silver to pink.

Yes. Yes.

Not familiar with that acronym ? You think people would be bothered by our MC having a short vision of foursome with her girlfriends ?
As long as it doesn't lead to Sireyi losing her virgin status, its all ok.
Obviously we can't take it too far, making out with other peoples effigies is kinda ... yeah
>>
>>35084326
>>35084354

>>Would Sireyi losing her virginity while in a Dream spell result in a loss of virgin bonuses?

>>No. No matter what she does in a Dream spell she does not lose her virginity. She doesn't know this and even if she did she may still regard it as doing the deed.

Even if the option wins, it won't lead to anything substantial.

Even if it did, OP has said he won't be doing smut.

FTB means Fade-to-Black, essentially another word for offscreen.

I know I would be bothered with it, partially because of the kinds of people it would attract.
>>
>>35084368
Ah I see what you mean. But I think Sireyi would still consider it the same thing. So she probably won't do the actual foursome. Just, accidently shape the dream for a moment, and then disperse it and blush furiously.

That would be a non-evil way of powering it. But you now have put it out there for everyone to have knowledge about, additionally, it would still be only available for a number of people. You wonder what Isla wants, as you’ve not discussed that, for a moment you imagine what it would be like to have all three girls you love, together.

And in a dream, even a moments lapse in concentration can have consequences...

You’re in your bedroom in the stronghold, Isla, Sofia and Jal are with you. You’re all still fully clothed.

You’re kneeling on the bed with Isla in front of you, kissing you, her mouth working hungrily at yours as if she loves the taste of you and can’t get enough.

Her arms are wrapped around you as yours are holding her. Next to you Jal and Sofia are likewise in a passionate embrace.

Isla leans backwards, pulling you down on top of her, your mouths still locked together. Sofia and Jal separate and each goes to one side of you, peeling off everyone’s clothes and laying kisses on your neck as they do so. With your clothes removed Sofia lays down next to you and starts to kiss and caress Isla, who turns her attentions to the former princess, her tail wriggling up between the two of them as Jals hand begins to stroke your inner thigh, going up and up, caressing your-

“Sireyi” gasps Sofia, in-between kisses “Not that this isn’t fun, but snap out of it!”

With a mental shake you restore yourself and Sofia to your place atop the stronghold wall, your clothes (and hers) restored)

“Well” says Sofia, straightening her clothes “I guess I’ll have quite the tale to tell Jal.”

“I’m sorry about that” you say, mortified “I didn’t mean to force you to-”

Sofia waves off your apology “Don’t worry, I’m a big girl now and Jal and I have already...ah, anyway, I wasn’t hurt and quite enjoyed it, another time perhaps.”
>>
“Isla and I are pretty close” you say, still shaken by your lack of control “We’ve ah...done quite a bit to one another and I now know just how sensitive her tail really is.”

Sofia quizzes you for a few details of your and Isla’s sexual escapades, much to your embarrassment, you head off further questions by asking:

“What do you want, and what do you think Jal wants?”

Sofia considers this, her chin in her hand “I love Jal” she says “and I love you, and...I think I could love Isla as well, I’d have to see how it all works out.”

“And Jal?” you ask, Sofia pulls a face and laughs “I love Jal” she says “But I can’t always keep up with her – she’ll be much happier when she has you and Isla to bed too – I think Jal will go for it, enthusiastically.”

“What will Isla want?” asks Sofia, as you keep your errant thoughts under control.

“I don’t know” you answer “I’ll have to ask her.

With nothing more to discuss, you decide to end the dream, waking up in your own blankets alone, and a little damp.

-----------------------------------

Eventually the wizards and scholars have picked the site clean, and you head back to your main camp. On your trip through the jungle you are sure the cat-folk are watching you, but you do not see any of them.

Back at the camp you and Master Fedwin go to the Commanders tent to give your reports, it’s late afternoon.

“Well” says Garrond after you’ve both finished “quite a tale, still, we’ve heard much the same from the other camps.

“Indeed” nods Fedwin “This expedition is proving how little we know about the Drowned Lands – and thus how much we can learn.”

“Quite” says Garrond, steepling his fingers and looking over them at you “For example, we now know there are giant squid and kraken here, even in these shallow waters.

You have a bad feeling about this.
>>
“In fact” he continues “They’re blocking access to a very large, and partly submerged building that the Duke wants investigated, so he has called upon anyone who can fly or fight underwater to help guard the ships as they unload troops onto this building.”

“You” he says “are being volunteered, along with your...girlfriend, whatever she is. You will either help guard the ships from the undersea monsters, or if you’re feeling particularly suicidal, land on the building complex to help the troops there. The attack is in three days.”

Explain why we should bring her over someone that's more suited to the task, rather than crippling her by taking away the only thing that makes her decent at melee combat.

She wouldn't be flying, we'd be landing on the building if we go that route and I'd prefer to avoid underwater shenanigans.

Longswords are better weapons for underwater engagements.

>>35084847
Her magical attack options are superior to the pathetic bonus she'd be reduced to from using a spear.

Keep in mind that the defense bonus from using a reach weapon will be far less than the bonus she gets from a longsword.

“I’m sorry I didn’t ask before” you say “But how is everyone reacting to the new you?”

Isla relaxes “Oh, that. Well the knights and paladins avoided me before anyway, so no change there. A few of the paladins have taken to staring at me at odd moments” she says “I guess they’re trying to figure out if I’m still a demon and I’ve disguised myself, or if something else has happened, mostly they’re confused.”

“Most other people” she continues “Just seem to be ignoring what’s happened, either they figure since I’m your girlfriend” she lingers over that word “stuff like this will happen or they think *crazy wizards* I guess.”

“And the wizards?” you ask, wondering what the more informed section of the expedition thinks.

Isla blushes and put her face in her hands and mumbles something.

“I didn’t get that” you say

“They think it’s sort of ownership thing” she says quietly, peeking at you through her fingers “like putting an arcane mark on a lover or something. I’ve even-”

She pauses, swallows and then continues “I’ve even had some of them suggest alternatives uses of magic to me – they seem to regard the whole thing as a source of amusement. I now know there’s a spell that would allow me to grow...erm...anyway, nobody is really acting any different” she says “For now at least.”

Well, since she’s already embarrassed, now is as good a time as any “You know that I’m together with Jal and Sofia” you say “and you and I are together, but how do you feel about Jal and Sofia?”

It takes a few moments for Isla to puzzle out what you’re saying, she gazes up at you in confusion then her eyes go wide and she blushes “What do you want?” she asks.
>>
“I want you all to be happy” you say.

She looks down, then gathers herself visibly and looks up at you “Yes” she says “I want to try...try being with Jal and Sofia as well. I do like them, and I respect them both and Sofia always looks so regal, and Jal has that strange exotic elven look to her and.” You cut off her babbling by putting a finger to her lips “Ok” you say “When we get back, we’ll discuss it with them. And lastly, un...about children..?”

“Yes!” says Isla, hugging you “Lots.”

If every time she gears up for melee is equated to going into melee, then you do want her to immediately rush into melee at the first sign of conflict.

Your statement doesn't disprove anything I've said, since the only time she's engaged in melee in a fight have been under player orders or the encounter with the Highest when under emotional distress.

Being good with weapons doesn't mean she should be a front-line character. She's pretty fragile and works perfectly well as a ranged attacker or caster.

Philly has been your friend for a long time, and you can read her pretty well. You think she’s a bit in awe of you, though she remains your friend.

Poppy, Poppy wasn’t happy...

The two of you were up in the crows nest and when you tried to tell Poppy she shook her head and said “Our Lady already told me, Saint Sireyi. I’m very well informed, Saint Sireyi, how can I be of service Saint Sireyi?” all this was delivered in a very...angry tone of voice.

Crying, yes. Flying off would go too far, I think. She's not a small child anymore, even if she can be emotional.
>>
“You can stop acting like a child” you say to the grumpy little halfling, hanging her legs out of the crows nest.

“I didn’t ask for this” you say “and I’d like to still be your friend, but if you’re going to go off in one of your little moods...”

“Whatever you order Milady” she growls at you, giving you a sideways glare.

"I'm not about to go ordering you around, I'm not about to go ordering anyone around" you say “But I thought you should know.”

Neither of you talk for a bit and then you ask “So what did Velya tell you?”

Poppy sighs and then says “*Know my servant Sireyi Valyenya is now Saint Sireyi, Chosen of Velya and my highest mortal representative. Heed her orders as you would my own* I don’t think I was the only one to get that message” she says “and it came with a picture of you – even though I already know what you look like.”

You pick up the tiny halfling woman and hug her, tears leaking from your eyes “I still want to be your friend” you say, sobbing a little “But if this is goodbye, then I just want to say, I will never forget that time you put a jarful of spiders in cadet Vetters bed for injuring me on the practise field. I know you always denied it was you, so I could never say thank you properly.”

“It wasn’t m- ok, yes I did that” admits a muffled Poppy “and you’re still a big softie Sireyi. Besides, he was terrified of spiders, would have been a crime not to.”

She pauses then continues “Ok, I admit, I was wrong, you’re still you, ya big soppy lummox, forgive me?”

“Of course I forgive you” you choke, your tears still flowing, but a smile appearing on your face “friends?”

“Friends” she agrees “Now either put me down so you can go clean up – you always looked like a melted candle when you cry, or” and you can hear the smile in her voice “If you’re going to give me a gold opportunity by hugging me to your chest at least let me get my hands free to make use of this moment.”

Laughing (and still a little weepy) you put her down and go to clean up.

You spoke to Matthias and Jianxi as you found them together one morning sharing breakfast. You helped yourself to a bowl of porridge and sat down with them, telling them quietly about your new abilities.

“Huh” says Matthias, chewing thoughtfully “Good for you, written your first holy book yet?”

Jianxi giggles “I’m not surprised” she says “You always did act like you were Velya’s gift to the world, and now you are.” She’s smiling as she says it though.

“So you’re ok with it?” you ask

Matthias shrugs and pours himself another bowl of porridge “Angel, lightning girl, paladin, saint – I’m happy for you Sireyi.”

Jianxi gives him a somewhat caustic look “What fur-for-brains is trying to say” she says “Is that you’ve helped us both a lot, we’ll stand by you no matter what.”

“But” she says “I’m not called you Goddess.”

>I had a few thoughts about the Doctrine of Sireyi...

“I don’t have a holy book yet Matthias” you giggle “And I’m not sure I even want one, as for what to call me” you look at Jianxi and wink “Sireyi will do most of the time, but the occasional *My Goddess* might help”.

Jianxi finishes eating her porridge then looks at you and says flatly “Not in this lifetime.”

“I do have a few ideas about the Doctrine of Sireyi” you say to Jianxi, a smile on your face, Matthias is grinning too as he watches the conversation between you, his head going back and forth with each comment.

“Not much” you say “Unquestioning obedience, morning prayers, giving thanks to your Goddess, but nothing in writing yet.” You look at Jianxi over your bowl of half-finished porridge.

“Who says you’ll get to write it?” asks Jianxi, one eyebrow raised “I’m sure the Gospel of Jallarial will be popular *And as I gave praise with my tongue to the Goddess, she did say Eeeep! As her eyes rolled back into her head and her grip tightened in my hair, long did I worship her that night* Yeah very...educational.”

Several minutes later you leave the room with your cheeks burning, having lost the verbal sparring match.

When you spoke to Isla, she simply sat and listened intently and then asked with a wide grin “So how do I convert to the Church of Sireyi? Any special holidays I should know about? What form do prayers to you take?”

“Saints are often worshipped as servants of a god” you explain to Isla “The gods themselves often have fairly broad responsibilities. Konig is a god of soldiers, but many soldiers pray to Ruzim – a saint of Konig known for having survived dozens of battles in his lifetime. Soldiers might pray to Konig for victory, but they’ll also pray to Ruzim for survival. Ruzim doesn’t have his own churches, rather there’s small statues of him in the churches of Konig.”

“So how do people pray to saints?” asks Isla

“It depends on the saint” you say “Prayer can be done in a church of their main god, or certain actions depending on the god or saint can count as prayer: Giving to the poor is a prayer to Kilran, pouring a drink on the ground after a battle is a prayer to Ruzim.”

“So how do you accept prayers?” asks Isla curiously

“I don’t know” you admit “It might have something to do with angels or angel-blooded, but I’m not sure. Anyway, I’m not sure I want prayers.”

“Isn’t that your job though?” asks Isla

“I think I need to keep it quiet until after I’ve rescued my mother” you say “I guess I’ll think about it then.”

“So if prayers to you involve angels and angel-blooded” says Isla slowly “shouldn’t you be creating more angels to give people more chance to pray to you.”

“I really don’t know how people will pray to me” you say “and I’m not sure I want them too.”

“But if they did want to?” asks Isla “Then more angels would give them more opportunities too.”

“True” you concede “Or more angel-blooded” your brain catches up with what your mouth just said and you see Isla giggling.

“For someone saving themselves for marriage” she gasps, tears running down her face “You sure do think about making babies a lot.”

“Anyway” you say, gritting your teeth slightly “It will need to wait until after I’ve rescued my mother; me being worshipped before then could put her in danger.”

“Oh yes” agrees Isla, a smile playing on her face “and you wouldn’t want to deprive her of the opportunity to meet her grandchildren before they’re all grown up, after all.”

-----------------------------
A few days later you are ready for the assault on this underwater building. Philly and Poppy are with you, as is Isla. Philly has a long spear strapped to her back and is complaining about it and she and Poppy are both wearing long cloaks that allow them to fly.

The good news is that the waters around this the place you’re going are shallow – only a hundred yards or so deep and pure and clear – in the daylight you can easily see the dark shapes of the giant squid passing underneath – though you’ve spotted no kraken yet.

The bad news is that by underwater building they really meant *underwater city*. You’ve flown over the place the expedition is going to invade and it’s a vast sprawling metropolis – with the tops of its tallest buildings above the water. The expedition hopes to land soldiers in the large central building that looks like a palace.
>>
Navigating the sunken buildings is going to be a real headache for the ships captains. Also, in your flybys you’ve seen humanoid figures swimming underwater and occasionally you’ve seen small boats – big enough for a half-dozen people. You’ve not gotten close enough to see details or talk to them, they look human though, at a distance – not sahaugin or cat-folk.

When you told the captains about the results of your flyover they were more concerned with the layouts of the buildings and didn’t seem bothered by any possible indigenous tribes.

Eventually the four ships carrying soldiers to the palace set sail. You and your companions, and a dozen mages fly above them.

As the ships navigate their way through the city you see two large dark shapes underwater approaching two of the ships. At the same time, you can see a half-dozen of the smaller boats from earlier packed with figures, hiding behind a submerged building where another ship is just passing by.

The fourth ship does not appear to be in any danger.

The flying mages are under your command, how will you divide your forces?

>We’ll deal with the tribefolk
>We’ll deal with the squid

You can divide your forces any way you wish, and will have a chance to change – this is the initial deployment. You have 12 flying mages.

>>35086770

>>
Philly and Poppy take 6 mages each and head for a giant squid each and you and Isla head over to the boats.

You hover above them and they don’t appear to have noticed you yet. This close you can see they are...elves!

Tanned by the sun and some of them are half-naked, but elves nonetheless. They appear to be waiting to ambush the approaching ship, though it won’t be in the best position for an ambush for a few more minutes yet.

"I meant those of your people they might have taken captive, not their undead servants or other evil creatures they use.” You say, projecting calm and peace.

Isla summons a wall of force in front of you just in case your efforts fail.

The elves below you grow visibly calmer, the bows lower as do the waterspouts

Philly finishes her spell and one of the giant squid is torn to tiny pieces.

[DE 28/50]

One of the staff-wielding elves gives a despairing cry and dives into the water.

“It’s a trick!” yells the elf leader “kill them!”

Arrows and waterspouts rush up to meet you but are stopped dead by Isla’s force wall.

Seeing this several of the elves with staffs close their eyes and start chanting, looks like they’re trying to work together to create a magical effect.

Poppy casts her spell but can sense no evil from the squid, or the elves. There is some from inside the buildings underwater though.

The remaining squid reaches up long limbs to embrace the ship as the mages hovering above pelt it with bolts of fire and lightning.

This is stupid you think, don’t these elves realise they don’t have a chance against you?

Isla creates a big enough anti-magic field to catch all the elves mages in it as you try to talk to them.

[Isla AE 48/62]

“We don’t want to hurt you” you say as arrows bounce off Isla’s wall of force “but we can defend ourselves if we’re attacked, we’re not allies of the Necromancer Kings and we’ve killed two of their *Highest*.” As you speak you try to project calm and peace.

Your words appear to have some meaning to the elven leader and he signals for his allies to lower their bows.

Poppy casts her spell to boost Ophilians magical prowess.

[Poppy DE 65/66]

Once again, Ophilians spell tears a giant squid to pieces as its arms embrace the ship, showering the sailors in tiny fishy chunks.

[Philly DE 8/50]

Again, another of the mages lets out a yell and dives into the water. With glances at each other the rest of the elves do the same, you can see them diving down deep and entering various buildings. With no foes in sight it would appear the battle is over.

What do you do?

Tie-break in favor of having Isla go warn the expedition while we go underwater, I don't care who casts the spell because it's one point.
>>
>>35088010
Yeah I was kinda just grasping for that one so I don't have to admit I forgot to check we have that one and just remembred that Lunia did.
As for the question mark, no can do sorry. It's a habit. And I find it looks untidy without the space.

You direct Isla to go and warn the expedition to stay away from the natives or approach their settlements unless attacked.

Meanwhile you cast a spell on yourself and dive into the water, trying to follow the leader of the elves. As much as you hate swimming, you need to do this.

The elves have scattered and entered various buildings; you follow the one you think is the leader and try to catch up to him.

Although you can breathe easily underwater you are still no match for the elves swimming speed and you are quickly left behind in an underwater building. Fortunately you can see quite well in the dark, and your halo provides a useful source of light. The walls are covered with scenes and images, partially obscured by silt and underwater plants.

Wait...there! You see one of the elves ahead at the end of the corridor.

You swim after the underwater elf, following him through twists and turns and rooms of all sorts, and then losing him again.

No wait – there he is! You continue to try to catch him without spooking him or attacking him.

Again you lose and reacquire your quarry several times.

>Success
You realise that its different elves you’ve been chasing and they’ve been leading you on a merry chase in circles, perhaps waiting for you to give up.

You decide to end this game and capture one of the elves, the next one you see and you put on a burst of speed – closing in on him.

You consider using a spell to capture him, but maybe that’s too aggressive.

He looks back and sees you gaining and puts on a burst of speed himself and dives down a tiny hole in the floor, you go after him – ah, success – seems like he has gone into a small dead end room.

Wait, why is it so dark? Your halo is out.

You cough and splutter with water in your lungs, your spell has failed; magic doesn’t seem to work in here.

The elf swims towards you, heading for the exit, you grab at him as he passes.

>Failure
He slips by you.

As he leaves the room through the small circular room in the top you see a metal grate slide into place with an ominous *clank*.

Even with your endurance you will only last minutes without air. You grip the metal bars and pull with all your might, trying to shift the grate, or break it.

Roll Strength 1d20+7

Or chose another action.

You’re in a dark featureless room and you can barely see, there’s only 1 exit and magic doesn’t seem to work here.

You only have minutes before you start drowning.

You tug and pull at the metal bars with all your might but they won’t budge.

As you pull at the bars in a futile manner you start to feel light-headed from lack of air and you redouble your efforts, throwing everything into trying to escape. You finally manage to pry a hole big enough in the bars to pull yourself out with a lot of painful scraping – though you think you’ve damaged your wing pretty bad.

You don’t know where you are, under water in a strange place, you try to recast your spell but your thoughts are fuzzy and you can’t focus – are you far enough away from the room to use magic, you can’t remember.

Why are you here again?

Pretty pictures on the walls....

As you black out, your last thoughts are of those you love: Isla, Jal, Sofia, Vivi, Mili and Ebonsong.

You hope they will live full lives without you there. You wish you’d had more time with them...

Annnnd thread over.

Thank you all for playing and I hope you had fun.

Next thread I’ll be using a different point of view character, I’m leaning towards Isla, but I’m willing to put it to a vote if people want.

I’ll hang around to answer questions for a bit. I’m not going to say anything about Sireyi’s fate except that drowning can’t actually kill her.

Next thread will be on Saturday, 7pm British Standard Time. I will post a reminder on twitter.

Not canon/Omake...

Had you bought Jal and Isla with you to see Sofia, and successfully negotiated the conversation to this point...

Jal, makes a move towards Isla but Sofia heads her off, pulling Jal into a hug and kissing her thoroughly, soon the two of them are absorbed in one another.

Isla approaches you and reaches for you, pulling you towards her, and pulling your mouth down to hers as your arms circle around her.

You start off as two couples, each person totally engrossed in their partner - then you feel a second pair of hands wrap around you from behind, running up and down your body, pulling you insistently towards the bed. With you and Isla on the bed caressing and kissing one another, Jal and Sofia slowly peel the clothes off the two of you and themselves as well, kissing and caressing you both and slowly and gently pulling you apart until Sofia is in your arms and Jal is in Islas.

You pull Sofia towards you and she eagerly meets your mouth with hers, kissing you hard and passionately. From the sounds next to you, Isla is receiving similar treatment from Jal.

Then Sofia pulls back from you and begins to kiss down your neck, holding your hands in hers as she does so. She lingers on your breasts – using tongue and lips to draw gasps of pleasure from you. Releasing your hands she rolls you onto your back, with her on top of you.

Taking a firm grip on your buttocks she kisses down your stomach, past your sternum, lower and lower until her tongue and lips are exploring between your thighs.

“S-Sofia!” you gasp, arching your back, your hands tangled in the bedding around you.
>>
>>35089721
You can feel her teasing and massaging you carefully, your pleasure mounting, a particularly strong shock of pleasure makes your eyes open wide and you moan out loud, only to see Isla lying next to you, Jal’s head positioned between Isla’s thighs.

At the sound you made Isla opens her eyes and sees you; she reaches for you and twists as you turn your head to meet her, holding her gently with one hand, other resting on top of Sofia’s head.

You and Isla explore each others mouths as your pleasure builds until Isla suddenly goes rigid in your arms and screams silently for some time. You don’t know how long her climax lasts because yours hits you moments later as your body arches and your hips lift off the bed, Sofia still holding you to her face.

Waves of pleasure roll through you as you hold Isla in your arms, the two of you shivering slightly, turned on your side and facing each other.

As you lay there, Sofia and Jal both climb up the bed and until they’re each laid behind one of you, their arms draped across you, their legs laid across yours.

You can feel Sofia’s soft breath tickling your ear as she whispers “So I guess fatigue isn’t an issue in this dream” and indeed, you don’t feel tired, just...gloriously happy with Isla in your arms, Jal on the other side of her and Sofia cuddling up begin you.

Jal adds “so how long does this dream last again?”

“Long enough” says Isla, stretching her whole body, and then reaching up for Jal again, as Jal leans down to kiss her, her mouth working greedily on Isla’s...

Oh my… I'll be in my bunk. Good night, Pal, and thanks for the thread.

One last idea: Why wouldn't those necromancer king artifacts be useful? You just have use them as the basis of artifact who do the same thing but take their power from elsewhere. If only we still had the power node, they could study those as well and combine them to make morally clean powerful artifacts. Probably more unwieldy than just sucking some peasants dry, but without the evilness.
>>
>>35090048
In that scenario they would be very useful, and safe.

The Necromancer-Kings devices have several flaws:

i) They power themselves from life force;
ii) Some devices have evil purposes (torture, murder, rape etc), and;
iii) Some of the Necromancer-Kings thought trapped/cursed devices was the height of comedy.

Once you get past those, their magic/technology is actually pretty useful.

The expedition could bring back enough knowledge to kickstart the magical industrial revolution in Dornmer, if you play things right.
