This thread will not advance the quest or pick up from where we left, but just go over the story up to now. This is for the benefit of any new readers.

First thread is already archived at:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/35040735/

And the entire quest is archived at:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Solar%20Quest

I'll try and keep it shorter than it was in the previous thread because otherwise this is really gonna take forever, yeah. As always, any questions and/or relevant discussions are welcome and I will answer to them at the best of my ability.

If you're new to Exalted but think this Quest might be interesting, know that it's meant to be as newbie-friendly as possible. If you want to know more about the setting in general, http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Exalted

We left the story when the city of Tianna and the Lunars and barbarian tribes of the island had agreed to an alliance, on the condition that they first defeat together the faerie lord of the Wyld area, appearing as a swamp, occupying the western side of the island. Who is a common enemy and threat (more to the Lunars than to Tianna proper though), and who is sitting on a large portion of the island which could otherwise be put to good use.

In the middle of all this Maka, our heroine, encounters Tia, psycho lunar, who claims her as her wife. Apparently they were married in a previous life. Maka doesn't know anything about it but seems to play along for now.

Tia is, of course, very sticky about it because Maka's soul belongs to her (or so she claims) and stealing souls and playing with people's feelings is the Fair Folk's main deal. She also says she wants to make a drinking cup from the fae prince's skull.

Anyway, the subject of planning moves to Dancing Smoke, the island's volcano goddess. Apparently very powerful, possibly a good ally, but the problem is that volcano gods seem to like human sacrifice, and Tianna's queen, Amata, is adamantly against that. (Amata seems to be pretty hostile to most gods in general. She claims to be in good standing with the island's god, but she asked Maka to not disturb him, so we never met him.)

So Maka, Mikahil (The other Solar on the island, a spy-diplomat-secret agent on Anata's side) and Tia climb the volcano.

Haggling ensues. In the end, Dancing Smoke agrees to having a yearly festival, a sacrifice in cattle and a shrine downtown,, Maka owing her a personal favour to be called in at a later time, and dancing for her personally at her festival.

...After that, it's time to get some pirates on our side.

I had actually forgotten about that. I wonder what that means in hindsight to the "recent" revelation.
Normally the Island wouldn't have a god, being a artifical structure, except those in the Bureau of Humanity or Bureau of Weather responsible for flying constructs or the aerial legion.
Boy I hope its one of the celestials of the Bureau of Weather, these guys have a sbolute hard-on for Solars

There is a pirate haven on some small islands on the far side of Tianna. Maka, Tia and Mikahil head there, assisted by the fact that Tia can shapeshift into a large vulture strong enough to carry two people in its claws.

You airdrop into a pirate ship sailing at sea. When they realize you are immune to swords, they listen.

So you obtain the services of the Bloodshark and its captain, Ruben Sareni.

Maka then proclaims to her new crew that she's ending piracy around Tianna... or rather, taking charge of it. She sets sail for the small pirate haven port, where she gathers some info and contacts another pirate, a Yagate Whitetooth, a half-shark beastman and someone with some ties to the Lintha. She makes an offer. He refuses.

He's actually a tough bastard, but by hurting Maka, he pisses off Tia. He snarls that he's the son of one of the Three Rivers lunars, to which Tia replies that she IS one of the Three Rivers, and nails him to a wall via giant sword

They conclude that he's one of the sons of Zaan. Apparently the little kid really gets around.

They leave him to his crew, to be taken care of, but Maka makes it clear that she's not finished with him. Tia has an idea, however, and leaves to prepare a "surprise".

Maka decides to leave the pirates to her and focuses on the local gods, or rather, elementals: there's a court of water spirits ruling the coasts of Tianna, and she tries to contact them, swimming at the bottom of the sea.
>>
>>35104464
Even if the Island got assigned a god without knowing what it is, he would realise it pretty fast, so he either isn't around anymore, or he is in on the conspiracy.
Islands would probably fall under the purview of the Bureau of Nature, who are on good terms with the Silver Pact, and not on so good terms with the Sidereal, so that would work out.
Its probably a completly autistic question but, does Tianna teach the Hierarchy of Type or the Hierarchy of Function ?
>>
>>35104561
>Hierarchy of Type or the Hierarchy of Function
What are these?
>>
>>35104578
Its two different ways in which scholars in creation, and gods, classify animals, plants and minerals.
The Hierarchy of Type does it by appearance.
So cats, dogs, trees, rivers and such.
And the Hierarchy of Function does it by abstract similarities.
Poisonouss animal, carnivore, herbivore, high places, flat places and such.

Its a minor point of contention for creation scholars, Type is the most common in the current age, while Function was "created" by the Solars.
The Bureau of Nature however is divided in their responsibilities along that line, so its a huge deal in terms of influence to the respective deities.

Maka dances (underwater) for the water spirits and manages to attract them, then she asks them to help against the Fae. They agree in exchange for turning one-fifth of the fae prince's lands to sea, and having Maka all for themselves for one full day and night.

Maka accepts despite knowing that water spirits, and specifically sirens, are at the top of the "clingy jealous possessive spirits that might decide they never want you to leave their side" ranking. Sirens seducing sailors into the sea and drowning them is a routine thing. She reasons that maybe she can fix this later.

When Maka climbs out of her dive in the sea, she notices her clothes ("clothes") are gone.

She quickly finds out what happened: a street urchin found them and stole them, and is now about to be stoned because the crowd is afraid of Maka and terrified that she will think even for a moment that they are to blame for something.

Maka stops them. The crowd seems to think that it's because she's about to eat him or something.

Instead Maka gives the kid, Regis, a job as her butler.

Meanwhile Tia pulls off her "surprise": she has eaten Yagate's hearts's blood. Lunar shapeshifting then allows her to turn into him, and fool his crew into thinking that he is "retiring" and handing the ship and crew to Maka.

Looks like Tia can also be cunning, in a "murder him, eat his heart, wear his skin" way. Anyway, the crew seems to buy it.

The night is spent talking with Tia, trying to get a fix on how her thought processes work, and bringing some sense to this crazy one-sided relationship. Maka doesn't hate Tia, but the Lunar is a bit too obsessive and didn't give her any time. Things need to go slower.

So, Tia obliges and has a night-time romantic date with Maka in the sea.

(All the while a crewman on the ship complains with Rubel that it's the fault of men being at sea if the women are all lesbians)

Next day, Maka receives from Mikahil, who is not going to be present for the battle against the fae (he'll be off-island attending some private business of his) his part of the "war effort" in form of a pouch full of mixed cash.

The last of the three big-shot pirate captains in these waters, Iohannes Quint, is a somber man who doesn't seem intimidated by Maka despite the entire haven by now knowing that she's some kind of god-demon-fae-something.

They talk business. He hates the Lintha as much as anyone else and likes Maka's plans to take them out at a later point. He understand the general situation (fair folk, abyssals, etc), and when Maka mentions that she plans on forging a large and powerful nation in the West with her new/future navy, his eyes light up. He agrees to help her, but in exchange he wants to rule one specific island in Wavecrest if and when Maka will conquer it, as her vassal.

Long story short, they've tossed his wife in a volcano. Well, it was because the prisons were empty at the time and she was a necromancer, but in Quint's opinion that is not an excuse.

Maka then hands Mikahil's cash to Tia, asking her to help arming the crews of her three new ships with proper anti-fae weaponry (i.e. iron), while she decides on who to captain the ship that was Yagate's. She settles for Rubel's first mate, Alexei, who was also the guy ranting about Storm Mothers and all-male sailors making women act weird on land.

Maka, Tia and Regis then fly to Azure Lake, the meeting point for the final pre-battle plans to be made.

Samiel is there as well, together with the lunars and their barbarian warriors. He also brought Maka her new armored gauntlets that she commissioned in Tianna a while back.

So, the entire battle force is Maka, Tia, Zaan, Talon, a troop of barbarian warriors, three pirate ships, Dancing Smoke, and the coastal water spirits of Tianna (represented by one named Flow).

The next step in the plan is to go and have a talk with the god of the plains, Yaraon. to make sure Dancing Smoke's lava is directed into the Wyld and not onto the barbarians or your allies.

Yaraon likes the idea of getting rid of the fair folk, because if the wyld gets destroyed it would free up a lot of land, which would become his domain. But he doesn't like the idea of vetting Dancing Smoke's lava all over him, and Dancing Smoke's attitude about it doesn't help. At all.

But you just got him to agree, when the Fae erupt out of the Wyld in a pre-emptive attack!

This impresses the fae leading the assault, Garnet Skysea, vassal of the Prince of the Marsh Tarien Dorian, so much, that he puts up no resistance to being subsequently wrestled to the ground by Maka. (Although, honestly, who would?)

Of course, Tia doesn't like this Garnet's claims that he's fallen head over heels for Maka, and abuses the hell out of him. Meanwhile Maka steals his clothes because they're fancy and she needs them.

They force Garnet into swearing a binding oath of love to Maka, coordinate with Zaan, push the lizards back, and then Maka meets Samiel as he surfs down the wave of lava coming from the volcano and joins him.

>Together, and later joined by Garnet again, they rampage through the Wyld, the flow of Lava calcifying the chaotic energies and burning lizardmen to cinders.

A long stretch of being lost in the wyld, of mindgames, monsters, and fighting another fae noble ensues. Concluded when reinforcements come, in the form of your three ships with Tia arriving (sailing through the wyld thanks to the water spirits) and running said fae noble over.

Maka is pretty badly wounded at this point, and Tia gets overprotective and forces her to rest.

While recuperating, Garnet makes her an offer: put him in charge of the Wyld instead of Tarien Dorian and things will work out.

Then there's a long chat where Garnet and Maka basically try to seduce each other, but Maka starts to realize why Tia was so nervous about fair folk: she laid a claim to Maka's soul, and souls are something that fae sometimes enjoy to play with, or steal. And that's just what's happening.

Maka tries to get Tia to calm down, but the Lunar goes off the deep end and stabs Garnet until he's dead, and then keeps stabbing and never stops.

...And then, in the chaos of those moments, Garnet (who is not really dead) creates an illusory Maka who replies to Tia's heartbroken questions in all the wrong ways, clearly trying to drive her completely insane. Trying to persuade her that Maka's just using her.

In Garnet's mind this is just a move to keep Maka all for himself and drive Tia away, and it almost worked, but we manage to shatter the illusion and reach out to Tia just in time.

After that, Maka more or less collapses from the strain, and when she wakes up, Tia has ran away, attacking the Fae prince's fortress by herself.

Meanwhile the good guys managed to puch back the Wyldland about as much as they can in such a short time. It's impossible to make it any smaller without some very long-term engineering, but the remaining Wyld is still dangerous and Tarien Dorian's fortress is still standing.

Samiel is still badly wounded and will rest longer, but Maka improvises some new clothes, nails metal plates to her gauntlets, and gets 10 volunteers to go searching for Tia.

Following her proves to be surprisingly easy: just follow the trail of lizardmen corpses. But along the way, Maka stumbles in another fae, this time one that looks like she's fleeing from the battle, evidently having realized that Tarien Dorian is surrounded and doomed.

Maka forces the fae, called Silk, to swear that she will not harm anyone while in Tianna and that she will never come back once she leaves, and she does in exchange for Maka swearing that she will not harm her and will do her best to protect her from Tia's bloody rampage and anyone else.

Having received directions for the fae castle by Silk, Maka finally catches up to Tia, who is still quite crazy.

Of course, as soon as Silk walks back in the scene, Tia tries to murder her, and it takes a lot of convincing to persuade her to not do it, and to persuade Maka to persuade her not to do it. Basically Silk just claims that she don't want no trabble, but also that's in their best interest to keep her around because Garnet was right about one thing: having a friendly fae in charge of the Wyld is a lot better than leaving it to run wild (no pun intended).

In the end, what persuades Tia is the thought that there are good lunars and bad lunars (and she's had a long experience in bad lunars), so she's willing to not judge Silk based on what Garnet did.

Everyone returns to the ships and decide on the strategy for assaulting the castle. Silk is also bound with an iron chain and a very well-worded oath without all the wiggle room that Garnet exploited.

Tia then decides to just turn into a giant kraken and tentacle rape the fortress open from the inside.

In the final battle, Tia and Dorian critically wound each other, but the fae lord manages to release Talon, believing him brainwashed and ready to fight on his side, remarking that fae always have tricks up their sleeves.

The next days are spent resting wounds, gathering forces, and looting the castle and the fallen armies of the fae, which are quite rich. Silk moves in and takes possession of the castle and begins the process of re-adapting it to her use. Talon is out cold, and Zaan says he'll need to put his half-broken mind back together, and it will take time and patience. They leave and return to northern Tianna.

Silk forges a few new clothes for Maka, from gossamer, sturdy enough that they won't blow up in Exalted combat, and the new land ripped off of the Wyld is divvied up, including several new Demesnes (places of magical power) that have formed, which are split between the lunars, Amata and Maka.

Maka decides that a new city will be built around the most powerful of these demesnes, centered around a manse. Her manse.

In any case, you return to Tianna, playing cupid between Smoke and Samiel along the way and in the process helping to sort out some of their problems.

It's generally agreed, once back to Tianna castle, that Mikahil probably knows someone who can help you with that Manse business, so Amata sends him a magical message.

Meanwhile, there's a lot of talking and reorganizing. The city and the world is slowly catching up with all the things that have happened up to now.

There, Maka also meets Rajan Hazakaa, the new admiral of Tianna's Navy, a manic and maybe slightly crazy Water-aspected DB with a burning and fiercely personal hatred of Lintha. Together they decide that they must be taken care of, because of how much damage they do to Tianna's shipping and naval power, but also to get their hands on their treasure, which must, by now, be immense.

The main problem is that no one knows where the Black Island, their hidden fortress, is, exactly, and that they have a "devil ship". Rajan's description is horrifying.

Not yet, but you've made some progress.

Anyway, you also have a chat with the Coral and the Wavecrest ambassadors. Then you make the public announcement that you and Amata are to be married sometime soon and unite the crowns of Tianna and Gem.

Of course, this causes an uproar you both cheerfully ignore.

Tia, meanwhile, has been contacted by one of the northern barbarian tribes, whose warriors were so impressed with her power during the battle that they asked her to become their chieftan. Tia accepted, hoping to learn how to be a better leader and people-person and to be more useful to Maka like this.

In those intimate hours of relax, Amata has a moment of weakness. She confesses to Maka that she is keeping a lot of secrets and she has lied a lot, even to her, but Maka replies that she doesn't care, as long as she had no other choice or did it for a good reason, and as long as her love is genuine. She replies that it is.

After a masterfully done public announcement that endears her to the people of Tianna, the dances start, on a palanquin carrying Dancing Smoke and Dancing Smoke's smug grin across the town, with Maka and Tia dancing on a dais on top of it.

<-----

But suddenly, someone fires an arrow from the crowd. You manage to deflect it without drawing attention, resolving that it was probably some immaculate malcontent - it didn't seem a serious assassination attempt, not for Exalted standards.

This is where the stuff that was so discussed in the last thread happened - Around the end of the festival, Maka loses control and turns it into a large mass orgy.

The next day, she starts to realize that she might have a problem. She talks about it with Amata and Tia, who agree but promise to support her (and keep an eye out).

What happened after all this is that you had to talk with a lot of people requesting meetings with you.

Zareen Inofu. Dragon-Blooded, Wood Aspect. Exalted in slavery. She feels like life has cheated her out of everything, and now she has the power to get it back.
She wants a place to belong and to be part of something. And she offers her services to Maka hoping she'll get a better deal from someone in her condition than the Realm would.

She's not wrong.

She's a skilled dancer, fighter, archer, posioner and assassin.

Pyre Spark. Priestess of the Unconquered Sun's temple in Tianna. A very small cult, but one that has been suddenly growing with the appearance of Maka.

And, since Maka is something close to a literal angel for her, an emissary of her god given flesh, she quite literally worships her.

She's endlessly energetic and cheerful. Possibly some kind of oracle, since she seems to have vivid dreams and takes them very seriously.

He offers to buy mining rights from the "new" land wrestled out of the Wyld from Maka, knowing that Tianna is poor in metals (but that that portion of the island might not be).

Unfortunately this will have to wait until the seas have been made safe by defeating the Lintha in the region, but Amata has already done business with the Denzik on a smaller scale and seems to trust them.

Erman Steelshard, mercenary captain. All the way from Nexus, the other side of the world. Leader of the eponymous Steelshards, a company of elite heavy infantry.

He took lead when the previous commander was obliterated in some kind of huge battle when a (third-circle?) Demon appeared in Nexus and started changing the road layout and filling them with horrors.

So him and his men have experience fighting against supernatural enemies, and he mentioned he already fought under the command of a Solar in the past.

Maka is forced to refuse, as theyr fees are really high and she doesn't need a force unsuited to naval combat right now.

They leave seeking contracts in Coral, but remain in good relationships with Maka, and mention that they might be back.

And Running Swallow, from the Five Fangs Dojo. A mortal martial arts student, and a pretty damn good one at that, who wants to follow Maka to put his own abilities to the test. A very serious, man-of-few-words type of person.

Once all the meetings are concluded, you have a few words with Irene, and find out that the guards have been spotting suspicious people in the night, probably Abyssal spies.

There's also some exposition on Maka's past: her family ruled Gem for three generations, until a Rankar VII managed to gain enough support among the noble families of the city to start a coup d'etat. Her family was either captured or maybe they somehow managed to escape, but she has no idea of how things are there now. She ran to Tianna because she had spent some time there in a vacation when she was a kid, and remembered the queen of that place being very kind.

Meanwhile, your pirate crews (currently under training) aren't taking their transition to a less independent lifestyle well, but the loot and their first payday are keeping them in line. Also admiral Rajan is someone who manages to command respect.

And Irene lets them mount a few pieces of Essence artillery on their ships.

A bit more of relationship consulting with Smoke and Samiel, who are struggling to get along, happens.
I think I'll stop here for now. Maybe i'll continue later, but maybe i'll have to make a third thread another day to finish.
>>
>>35109446

>>
>>35109544
That's not quite right, there's only 1 Sidereal, and there doesn't have to be a Lunar of every Caste, they're the mates of the Solars.
Also you're likely to end up with more than 5 Dragon-Blooded.
>>
>>35109621
A Perfect Circle early First Age style, would be 5 Solars, 5 Lunar Mates, a Sidereal advisor from each Caste, plus the dragon-blooded followers of each Lunar and Solar.
So we definitly won't get a "true" perfect circle. But we get pretty close.
>>
>>35109708
I'm pretty sure it's always been 1 Sidereal, because there are only 1/3 as many Sidereals as Solars/Lunars.
