A comfortable sort of peace overtakes you as you walk, the quiet of the village broken only by the clatter of your limbs as you move between the trees. The foliage above is far denser than elsewhere in the woods, neatly concealing the village from above. Soft light drips over the shapes of the moth's homes, cast by hanging orbs clustered loosely in the branches.

The homes themselves are wide orbs of silk, each with a few small holes for entrances. You might be able to get your human body through one, but you'd have to tear the structure open to fit inside.

Heads poke out of the cocoon like homes as you travel through the moth-made twilight. The whole village smells ... calm, for lack of a better description. Soft. Concepts that aren't really smells at all.

You head forward, one foot in front of the other, hoping your hosts make themselves known. You're not sure you'd be able to identify them.

A moth-girl crouches on the branches just ahead, one hand bracing against the trunk as she watches you. She calls out as you pull up beneath her, craning your neck to meet her eyes. Her voice is soft, a whispery sound you strain to hear.
"Greetings, weaver. What brings you to the village?"
You're not sure if the quiet tone is simply something all moths affect, or if they sleep in the middle of the day, but you make an effort to keep your own down.
"Greetings, yes. I am looking for Sil or Kri- I am seeking trade."

The moth lets a small smile cross her face as she answers.
"Then that is something I can help with. You will need wait, though- My parents are out at the moment."
She nods to herself, satisfied, and you cock your head as you watch her.
No, still can't tell which one she is.

"Ah- Are you Rie or... Nin, was it?"
The moth crouches further as she observes you, pulling her knees to her chest as she looks down.
"I do not believe we have met, no? How do you know us?"
"I was the one who pulled you or your sister from the ruins, yes."
>>
>>35197921
She flutters down from the canopy, circling you, examining you intently, Sheszka stepping back to allow her space, waiting patiently.
"Hnnn- I do not recall you being red."
"My name is Lyra, yes? And the red came later. You will look different when you change, will you not?"

She completes her circuit, and takes to the air, hovering gently in the air before you- the girl is barely 4 feet tall, though her wingspan makes her seem larger.
"I am not sure I will be changing colour, in any case," She smiles. "I am Nin- Rie's older sister."
"I thought you were twins?"

Her expression grows ever so slightly haughty, tilting her head and looking down her nose at you.
"I am older by nearly twelve whole seconds. I am much more mature."
You hold back the laughter, but your grin uncontrollably as she floats, hands on her hips, taking unending pride in her quarter-minute of superiority.

You wait for the girl to continue, and she surprises you by folding her hands before her, closing in till she's face to face.
"Thank you for saving her though." Her smile is bright, genuine. "I love her very much. I do not know-"

This won't be relevant for a while, but I have an idea for our dungeon crawl.

Outside of the dungeon, have Sara feed us some mana and focus on our tremor sense. Try and 'ask' the earth to show us things. Maybe we can get a mental map of the dungeon or something. Or maybe just boost our tremor sense a bit.

>>
>>35198635

>>
>>35198651

But we can't do magic on our own, only mess with the magic of others. We'd need to carry Sara like some sort of demented mana battery and that's still going to end up being used less efficiently than if we'd leave it to the magic expert.

But if we're already physically powerful enough to get up in their shit and grapple them, consistently enough to get mana out of it, how wouldn't we already be dominating them in close combat so hard that it wouldn't even matter?

We cannot into magic-casting spider. It is something we will have to deal with, in lieu of being 2legit2quit spider in general.
>>

Worst choice
>>
>>35198827
I don't even know why people think GraveSpider will be the magic casting one, when its the biggest evolution and the most armored and armed one with the spikes on its legs.
>>
As you watch the young moth try and find the words she needs, your fingers twitch conspiratorially. What is it with animal people who've got things on their heads? It's just- You really want to pat her, reassure her.

Maybe it's just you? Is this some sort of addiction? Are you a serial head-patter now?

You push the thought to the back of your mind, knitting your fingers together to keep your hands out of her hair while she thanks you.

"-I am not sure what I would have done without her. It's not... I can't imagine it. I don't want to."
You nod, as she finishes, her head down.
"I understand, yes? I do not wish to think of what I would do without my family. But she is safe, yes? And we are here. You can count on us."

She smiles beatifically up at you, her hair mussed beneath your hand-

When did you even- This is ridiculous. Her hair is really soft, though. And the way her antennae flick as you rub near them-

You pull your hand back and cough, awkwardly.

"Ah, yes. Hm. What have you been up to, then?"
Her smile doesn't fade as she flicks her wings once, deftly folding them as she lands before you.
"Mama has kept us close to home. The boys tried to sneak out at night again, and our father had to convince her not to tie them to the house."
Sheszka giggles a bit, smiling as she looks around at the village.

"And what about you, hm? Already grown, a wolf at your side. What have you been doing?"
"Traveling, fighting, hunting. There was a problem at the ruins, the other night. And I visited the human town on the river, yes."
You glance over at your companion, gesturing between them.
"This is Sheszka, by the way. Sheszka, this is Nin."
>>
>>35198911
Both girls nod solemnly to each other before Nin speaks up again.
"How did you meet then? And why is she following you?"
"Ah- I crossed the river, yes? Just to look around. And she tried to jump me, so I punched her. And knocked her out. And tied her to a tree."

The moth starts to snicker as you scratch your neck. It's a bit of an odd story. Sheszka chimes in, breaking the silence with her own declaration.
"Alpha, now."
Nin watches her carefully, taking in her clothes, her relaxed stance.
"You're her pack, then? Planning on being queen?"

I don't think any of these evolutions are particularly inclinated towards magic

I think grave will get harder natural armour, while wolf will get much higher speed. Orb gets webbing.

Speed trumps armour, plus fluffiness. Makes it a no-brainer for me.

Monstergirls with headthings must be petted. This is part of the rules of nature.
>>
>>35198973
we trapped a giant bear made of shade in a web and then killed it when it was severly disadvantaged.
we also used up our web trying to set traps for the non sapient wolf pack fight. which failed, but we still pushed ourselves on silk production there.
and we used our silk during the fight with the croc
>>

Exactly. We occasionally use web
We ALWAYS hit stuff and use our strength.
So while we shouldn't get rid of our web or stop using it, we should focus on our strengths and stop trying to be the best at everything
>>
Okay, confusion, a request for information.
Writing!
>>
>>35199155
None of which is all that special, all things considered its just using our webs what they are there for. None of those webs were particularily innovative. It was just basic Spider fighting technique.
>>
To me, Grave is just the most varied, as it seems more like the HEAVY ASSAULT BUT ALSO POISON one.

Like, Poison mixing, Paralytics, shit to coat our claws and ALL DEM SPIKY BITS with to ensure NO-ONE fucks with any bit of us.

Also the Spikes can double as a Perch for Jin / Handlebars for everyone else.
>>
>>35198911

Lyra is now in the same support group as Chiaka Matsuda and everyone who has encountered Yukari.
>>
>>35199210
>Exactly. We occasionally use web
>We ALWAYS hit stuff and use our strength.
Almost every battle that earns XP involves us using web

>So while we shouldn't get rid of our web or stop using it, we should focus on our strengths and stop trying to be the best at everything
that has nothing to do with the argument you are replying to. We are discussing whether Orb spider evolution is a +magic or a +web evolution.
I was replying to a person who claimed we haven't used our web for anything that should go towards an evolution.

Also, I would like to mention that those 3 upgrades are not upgrades we unlocked, but upgrades whose requirements we PARTIALLY satisfied.
I am betting luring the giant shadow bear into the web thing partially satisfied the requirements for a web trapping specialist spider, the orb spider (which IRL is famous for its web traps). We might never actually fully unlock that upgrade without further use btw.
>>
>>35199241
It doesn't need to be innovative, it needs to be impressive.
Was sarah amazingly innovative with her spells? were we amazingly innovative with our "stab people"? Innovation has nothing to do with it.
The question is thus: "How did you earn your XP" and "which achievements have you unlocked", achievements being stuff that impresses the gods
>>
>>35199331
>To me, Grave is just the most varied, as it seems more like the HEAVY ASSAULT BUT ALSO POISON one.
I agree about that, I believe we have started unlocking grave when we coated our weapon in our poison before battle.

>>35199343
The "trapping a huge thing in your net" might be a condition, but I think what we did with the skeletons, and after the "summoning lava" bit, its very unlikely to me we haven't met a condition for a more magic evolution. And since neither Wolf nor Grave seem magic to me, I would think Orb is the likely candidate for that.
That being said, there is no reason it can't be a bit of both.
>>
>>35199413
who will head pat lyra?
>>
>>35199331
I started the spiderwar this thread, but I'd like to point out that we don't actually know what any of the evolutions do. Maybe orb is actually fuckhuge and durable. Maybe wolf is actually for burst damage and being fluffy but not for being the musclegirl spider. Maybe grave gives us necromancy but makes us fragile as shit.
>>
>>35199432
Mom?
>>
>>35199386
>Innovation has nothing to do with it.
A innovative use IS impressive. Using the webs in ainnovative fashion would be impressive and therefore likely to be a condition, but just using the webs straightforward seems less likely to be a condition for me.
>>
>>35199432

I think theres something important that people arent reading here.

REQM said we were at half completion for 3 VARIANTS. Not wolf/grave/orb, but stuff like how we're a ruby widow instead of a regular one.
>>
>>35199436
We do know the Sizes in relation to eachother and normal Arachnes, but beyond that, yeah its speculation by now.
>>
>>35199436
Actual species - Wolf is a roaming spider. Fucks shit up. Female orb weavers wait around in big ass webs. Grave spiders are not a thing.

But we're a "Widow" and windows are stationary spiders so what can be gleamed from the names is minimal.
>>
>>35199461

Being a Sub-varient of a main evolution just means that we evolve along the same path but keep the coloring / perks, like, a normal widow will evolve into something else, we would evolve into the same thing, except Red (unless it has a color change) and keep our Blessing from a God of Protection
>>
>>35199501
>and keep our Blessing from a God of Protection
We keep that anyway, just as a note.
>>
>>35199436
Better yet, we dont even know if we will qualify for any of them as of yet nor what we will need to do to get there.

All in all I wish that he would release a full list of evolutions with spots censored out and whatnot to have us try to guess how to get to the fluffiest/meanest/TUNDAHBREAKAH/shinest spider possible.
>>
>>35199501
Yeah, but it means cool coloration and awesome powers.
I'm putting money on earth spider, weaponsmith spider and and maybe expanding the ruby one to more protection.
>>
>>35199501
Blood wolf. Ruby orb. And the most heavy metal, CRIMSON SKULL!
>>
>>35199428
It is possible that orb is a hybrid of magic and web. For that matter, they could all be hybrid with some magic thrown in.
Or maybe our potential magic evolution is a hidden/rare 4th evolution we haven't gotten informed of yet?
Or who knows.
>>
>>35199478
It's probable that you can at least imply something by the base species: wolf would likely be a mobility type, orb would be a web specialist, and the QM already hinted that the "grave" is some kind of assassin type. All three fit Lyra to some degree.
>>
>>35199457
My understanding of taxidermy says that our waifus will be dusting our skullbutt and brushing its teeth.
>>
>>35199461
I thought that the ruby thing came from having a blessing...
but you have a good point, we evolved into a ruby widow, but the chart with the wolf/grave/orb just says "widow", the ruby is the variant. So we could get a "earth blessed wolfspider" like how sarah got "star blessed widow"

>>35199531
If we unlock earth blessed variant like sarah did with star blessed, and we keep our existing ruby-red=protection variant.
That would make us an Earth-Ruby-Wolf Arachne.
I like to imagine that red + earth = lava

That being said, I see no reason for her to be House sized, I want "impressively large" Lyra, not "Oh-my-god-I-heard-about-giant-spiders-but-this-is-ridiculous" Lyra.

You pause a moment, blinking carefully as the two girls watch you. Your mouth opens as you begin to form words, confusion knotting your brows, and you raise one hand, half curled, a single finger standing for a moments respite.
"I- Wait. Wait. What? I don't- Explain. Please explain that."

Nin's smile grows as your broken sentences flow into the air, puffing up her chest with importance again as she launches into a history lesson.
"The packs have always fought, right?"
She glances as your wolfgirl, who nods her confirmation.
"Even when the city stood. There was one wolf leader, but the rest wouldn't follow him, so the other strong monsters would go and beat the alphas, and claim the packs for their own."

She's pacing as she lectures you, kicking her heels up with every step, spinning on the spot, back and forth.
"And the Arachne queen was one of them, of course. She claimed her own pack, and they served her till the city fell. And then they crossed the river."
Sheszka nods along grimly, filling in where Nin stops.

"That was our pack. Alpha had an old spider-"
She gestures before her, hands framing a long shirt as she frowns at her lack of words.
"Like a.... tabard? A long, loose sort of shirt?"
"Mhm. With a spider. Alpha would talk about how strong they were."

Nin is skipping around the two of you excitedly.
"The Queen's own pack! Haha!"
You try waving her down, but she's having none of it.
"Nin, I am not going to-"
"Long live the Queen!"
"I am not- I am not the queen, yes?"
"Not yet!"

You hold out both your hands, calling the moth to a halt.
"Nin, how long will it be till your parents are home?"
"Fear not, your majesty! They shall return with the turning of the hour!"
You groan. Sheszka mostly looks confused.

>"How about you show us the village, yes?"
>"Are any of your siblings around?"
>"SO what can moths do, anyway?"
>Other (?)
>>
>>35200886
We can't really avoid it as such. We don't really know what evolutions are "huge" beforehand, and even if we did, there is not much point taking a evolution just because its small.
I'd heavily assume that all melee evolutions will be pretty large.

We did become noticeably larger when we evolved, but its hard to tell how evolution and physical maturing work together in this setting.
Most arachne don't evolve much anyway, so its doubly hard to tell with them.

We don't really know when Arachne stop growing, if they mature so fast they enter puberty after 1-2 months, its possible they are fully grown in half a year.

>>
Every question possible, then?
Okay.
>>
>>35201071
Mom might have been nearly her current size when she left the nest though, so we really have no idea if they keep getting bigger after that.

i think the legendary spider we met is an exception, wasn't he an actual Spider instead of an Arachne? He also could have hit some extremely rare evolution because of how crazy old he is.

i fully expect us to be ever so slightly larger than Mom, but not by any significant amount.
>>
>>35200912
>SO what can moths do, anyway?"

Good question.
>>
>>35201112
we were told that it varies a bit but we have about a month to go and will grow up to mom sized with current evolution. Also, we are only slightly smaller than her with current evolution.
>>
>>35201216
>He also could have hit some extremely rare evolution because of how crazy old he is.
or just had a fuckton of evolutions. one after another. each evolution changes you physically and also increases your max age
>>
>>35201224
I think we're ever so slightly shorter, just all gangly and shit. Still waiting for that spider puberty, time to fill out
>>
>>35201224
Its very much possible we would only grow as large as her with our current evolution, its hard to tell since its a variant. But if we continue getting melee evolutions, we will most likely end up even bigger than her pretty soon.
>>

You're beginning to get the feeling that Nin is the kind of person who doesn't stop once she gets going. You glance desperately around. Something, anything- Got it!

Your hands crack sharply together as you clap, snapping everyone's attention straight to you.

Thanks, Mom.

"SO! Nin, just what is it the moths can do? Mom told me about dust, just, nothing specific, yes?"
She bows deeply, one arm across her waist and the other extended while Sheszka giggles.
"Milady, please allow this humble moth to inform you!"

No, concealing your face with both hands isn't stop the blush.

Nin continues unabated.
"-With our majestic and beautiful wings, we can float through the air- But it is, of course, our ability to produce the finest of powders, that draws attention from all comers."
"Nnnnnnnngh."
"Though I myself am but a young moth, I can make a dust to calm, a dust to sleep, and a dust to slow- The adults can make ones that stop, or weaken, ones that kill or heal."
She frowns, her grandiose display interupted as she wrinkles her nose at a thought.

"There's a few they haven't told me about, though. Mama always says 'later, later' whenever I ask. But later never comes."
You've got a sneaking suspicion you know what the powder is for.
"Later is when you're an adult, I think."
"That's dumb."
"Mmm. Are your siblings around? Or maybe you could show us the village, yes?"

Her smile returns, just as wicked as before.
"Of course, my sovereign. An escort of but a single moth is an insult, unworthy of your spider-y greatness. We shall fetch an entourage!"
She turns, heading further into the village, wings lifting her with each skip as she moves. You keep pace easily behind her, though you refuse to meet the eyes of any watchers.
>>
>>35202318
>>35202326
We should just be shiny ourselves, and then develop fluffy clothing.
>>
>>35202353
She pulls to a halt beneath a tree with a trio of silk bubbles around it, whistling sharply- And little moth heads poke out of every available hole, staring down at the three of you below.

In short order, they've assembled- Literally assembled, as Nin is now acting sergeant, organizing them around you in an agonizing honor guard, which she leads beside the proud Sheszka. Her siblings all chatter as you travel, raising their tiny voices to chatter over each other.

"When did you get so big, anyway?" "And red!" "Really red." "You were black before."
"I grew about a day or so after the ruins, when I-"
"And here is the towns fountain- We use this piece for drinking, and the deeper section for bathing-"
"Mama says we won't grow for a while." "Grandpa was really big." "His wings were neat." "He smelled funny."
"This is where the village chief lives, milady. Would that I could invite you in, but your majesty would tear his meager home asunder-"
"Your armour is really nice." "I like your weapon!" "Can I hold it? Just for a minute, I promise I'll give it back!" "Its too big, you'd just fall down."

Your escort dissolves into a shouting match, two of the brothers looking on while the other pair tries their best you shut down the other-
You pull it to a gentle close by handing them your glave, dropping each to the ground in turn beneath its weight. Nin launches into another absurd explanation that you narrowly manage to blank out before Rie points overhead.
"Mama and Papa are home."

You watch as the parents circle, their loops closing as they near the ground. Your mouth dries, your spine tingles.

You've got one chance. One last shot.

You step forward- Nin's eyes follow, her grin growing wider. The children try to step in time, but your stride is in another dimension. The wind catches your hair, ponytail trailing behind you as you make a mad dash for the moth's parents.

Nin has taken to the air- but she's no Jin, wings straining to keep up with your speed. Sheszka is trotting along beside you effortlessly, a confused but happy smile writ across her face.

The adult moths stare as you bear down on them, a red juggernaut hurtling straight towards them. Nin is trying to shout something, her voice lost to the wind as you grind to a halt before them-

"HELLOYES MYNAMEISLYRA IMNIA'SDAUGHTER HI"

Nin- followed quite closely by her siblings- collides with your back at your sudden stop, as a half dozen soft thumps emanate from your spider half, a family of moth children sent sprawling across the packed earth.

"-the quuuueeeeeeeen....." Nin croaks out as her voice trails away.
>>
>>35203673

The two moths look at each other as you pant, hands resting against your spider limbs, eyebrows arched delicately. Eventually, the husband pipes up.
"You are... Nia's daughter?"
"Yes. Lyra."
His wife smiles earnestly at you, taking your hand in hers.
"You were the one that rescued Rie. What brings you to he village, little one?"
She laughs at that.
"However inappropriate that may now be."

You pull your bags free while the moth pile behind you begins to seperate, The little ones pulling themselves free.
"Mom- Mom ran out of dust, yes? She sent me with silk."
She takes each jar in turn, opening them and sniffing, antennae wriggling.
"Ah. Healing dust, and-"
Her face turns a little red as she seals the seconds jar.
"And your father is home now, I see."

You pick a point somewhere behind her, staring pointedly and not thinking about anything.
"Yes."
"Mhm. I will go and fetch these for you, then. You can give Kri the silk."
She flutters off, and you hand her husband the silk in a daze, Nin walking dizzily past our legs, declaring the village a fundamental piece of Lyraville. Her father raises an eyebrow before heading into the canopy, stashing the silk in their home.

She returns a short while after, still wearing the same blush, and turns over the now full jars to you. Securing them in your bags takes only a moment- And you ready yourself for the trip home, exchanging thanks with the family. Nin lines her siblings before you, executing a picture perfect salute, and you return a wave goodbye.

The forest opens up before you, and you spend a moment squinting in the sunlight after spending too long in the moth's twilight.

Now that you thnk about it, that really wasn't any better of an introduction.
Your cheeks burn.

So we're not a shut in or a neet. But I notice a distinct lack of any romance. I gathered that these are the sort of "My brother my sister" friends, ones that are just as close or closer than family.
So I think it's still possible that Lyra doesn't have much past life experience to draw upon. Of course, it could go either way, we'll have to wait and see if REQM ever definitively answers that question.
>>
>>35204419
I'm not even sure it would matter. We underwent some pretty significant changes, Lyra isn't the same person as Sarah anymore, just alone because of the different chemistry of her still not adult body. You irritably at your cheeks, still feeling the heat of your visit. The sedate pace of your return trip leaves your mind wandering...

Banishing all your thoughts to the back of your mind, you flag down Sheszka, and speak the magic word.

"Race?"

The wolf's smile bares all her teeth, and you answer with one of your own- before your both lunge forward.

Trees fly by, birds and small animals launching themselves from your oath in a panic as you tear through the woods. The arches blur as you pass beneath them, hot on the heels of the wolf- she's definitely faster, but her stamina isn't as good. As long as you keep to areas you can actually run in, you've got a chance.

The ruins hurtle towards you, then away as you blow through the magic-scarred meadow ringing them, the first strings of silk in the trees marking your approach home.

Sheszka is panting heavily, mouth hanging open as she rushes for the tree, tearing at the ground. You thunder behind her, her pace faltering as you close- and you both put on a final burst as the tree comes into sight, your companion touching the trunk only moments before you.

You collapse side by side, tearing your shield free and gulping water down messily before handing it off to the exhausted wolf. You spend a few minutes at the foot of the tree, waiting till the burn in your limbs peters down to a dull ache, and you haul yourselves up into the nest.

Your sibling are absent, though Mom is waiting above, surprised to see you.

"Did you run all the way from the village?"
"Yes."

"Why?"

I had assumed it was Japan because of the train system.

I didn't say Sarah/Lyra was Japanese, just that Japan is the only place in mind that makes great use as trains as a popular choice of civilian transport.

Not even close, thats true for pretty much all of Central Europe.

I can`t see it.
They're all too happy. Even Lyra was broken up with nightmares for a bit. We'd notice if one of our sisters was suffering severe depression. Could you imagine? Killing yourself because you don't deserve to live, and waking up to a second chance? They'd have broken down. 'Why do I get one when she didn't?'

Well if we follow this fan-theory, she killed us because we were getting closer to one of our mutual guy friends, so it wouldn't surprise me that she would be a bit of a petty bitch and be perfectly fine in a reincarnate scenario.

Or she's in bliss because she got her second chance. That never happened she's Aria now. But this Lyra bitch is ruining things just like Sarah did.

>>
>>35204737
Those don't really make sense, the idea is that she killed herself out of regret of having murdered Sarah, so she must feel remorse about it at least initially.
>>
>>35204758

It's a genuine possibility, it wouldn't really be that surprisingly.

THAT is the scary part.

>>35204767

Guilt, yes, but guilt for killing Lyra? Or guilt for fucking everything up for herself and the other friends?
>>
>>35204737
>>35204758
It would also explain why Sara is always so happy and likes everyone... along with her demented streak when it comes to blowing stuff up...
>>
>>35204617
thanks. can't find a note about keeping any healing items. so apparently my memory is fail
>>
>>35204767
Really? She is totally a petty bitch. She killed her friend and then instead of handling or facing consequences she killed herself. Hell if you're just reborn again why not Keep doing it till you get everything you want?
>>
>>35204799
That would invalidate the theory because none of our sisters seem to be that shallow.
>>
>>35204820

We haven't even gone through puberty yet, and we are the "eldest"
>>
>>35204820
Neither did the girl in question.
>>
>>35204781
The second part is a bit of a weak reason for someone so shallow to kill herself. Either she is that shallow that she wouldn't regret murdering Sarah, in which case she wouldn't be bothered by the second part ot such an extent, or she isn't so shallow and really regreted it and killed herself.

To be honest though, I just prefer the "wanting to start over" thing, her staying a petty bitch or having been one after killing herself out of remorse doesn't jive with me.
>>
Now now guys.
No reason to run wild with your reincarnation speculation.
>>
>>35204838
We don't know, she might have and Sarah was just blinded by her infatuation for her.
>>
>>35204860

But it's fun!

And what if...

The boy we were getting closer to killed us because the girl had a crush on us, and he had a crush on her?
>>
>>35204864
That could be the same situation here with Little Sarah. We love her to bits. But she enjoys hitting us repeatedly with stars. Which as far as I understand it is a painful experience and never shows anything but joy.
>>

Unless reincarnation involves time travel, our killer would have to have killed themselves moments after us.
and how? nobody was on the tracks with us when we got hit by that train.

Also, you guys are mean to sarah to even suggest that.

And nothing in her personality even remotely suggests that.
>>
>>35204860
The arguing is this quest is great. So much fun talking about big spider, skelly spider or fluffy spider.
>>
>>35204883
... Are you a chick? Because a guy wouldn't do that. Try to get away with two timing both girls? Yes. Kill a girl he isn't even dating so he can go out with yet another girl? No, just no.
>>
>>35204894
Its actually not painful at all, she doesn't hit us with the stars, she throws them at us and we redirect them with our spellbreaking, she never hurts us, its just scary getting them thrown at oyu. Its more a expression of the blind trust Sarah has that her big sister is invincible.
>>
>>35204922
Why not? Us men are perfectly capable of being insane and irrational.
>>
>>35204905
Why would reincarnation into a different dimension have any relationship with time whatsoever? In in our own universe time is a fluid thing (if you start moving at fast enough speeds), there is no logical reason why time should flow linearly with regards to reincarnation.
>>
>>35204922
There are all sorts anon, all sorts.
I remember such a case actually having been in the news here once.
>>
>>35204905

Well, reincarnation jumped us from a 27 year old body into a babyspider that hasn't hatched yet in another dimension where the laws of nature and physics as we know them have been bent over and fucked raw.

Speaking of which, did we kill our Body's old soul? Was it destined to be stillborn unless we stepped in? Were we attached to the body when it was developing inside the egg? Did our reincarnation casually rewrite reality to include us?

I enjoy giving REQM a headache, because I love him like that.
>>
>>35204930
Hmm. Clearly Sarah needs to see Lyra beaten and broken. Twitching and half crushed begging for death.
>>
>>35204944

>>
>>35204905

>>
>>35204934
>>35204946

Okay I guess so. I was operating under the assumption that the guy in question wasn't insane, but looking back that isn't a safe assumption to make.
Inb4 the guy killed both Sarah and the other girl and they both get reincarnated as spider people.
>>
>>35204946
Or trying to kill another guy to impress a girl that doesn't even know him...
>>
>>35204952
you are assuming a soul is given to the body at conception, and that our soul enter the body at birth. both assumptions can be wrong.

... Time and space literally bend and skew to keep the speed of light constant.

At relativistic speeds, time slows down, this is an accepted theory of physics. Unless some major breakthrough has happened recently that I haven't heard of, my representation of time was accurate for it's specific example (i.e. time, isn't experienced at a constant rate when one moving at near the speed of light).
>>
>>35204586
>"The guards were kinda rude- everyone was surprised to see Sheszka."
>>
>>35204992
Lyra

But seriously, the theory has only any appeal to me if its genuine redemption and remorse involved, anything else wouldn't fit the tone of the story for me, I associate these kinds of stories with second chances. At worst she is terrible now and once we find out, its time for healing~
>>
>>35205013
Clearly the soul of the dead brother would merge with the living one. Thus they would truly become one.
>>
Y'know it says something about REQM's quest that we actually give a fuck about his prologue.

I'm just not sure WHAT.
>>
>>35204993
I'm pretty sure reqm said something about it early on.
>>
>>35204989
We'd already established that the woman in question was off her rocker for the given situation. I just assumed she was the only off one in our group of friends.
>>
>>35205060
we don't even know who pushed out, or if it was a woman or a man
>>
>>35205070
We don't even know if our entire previous life was actually "real" or if we were just given fake memories by a god for some cosmic laugh or bet.

When speculating you have to establish some things are given to move forward, knowing that you might have to go back and revise your assumptions later.

On a more relevant example, we don't even know if we were killed by accident or on purpose. Would you like to spend an hour or two debating that as well?
>>
>>35205070
It was a girl who knew that, if she killed that particular girl then killed herself, she would find her true love in another life.

She reincarnated, without memories but a strange sense of having another person within her head. She's trying her best to stop referring to herself in the plural.

>>35205120

>>
>>35205112

>>
>>35205158
I feel Conspiracy Anon would be at home here. But far as I know he stays in Horde quest and Titans quest.
>>
>>35205138
Or just someone who really wanted to get on the train? Plenty of accidents are caused by people just in a hurry who disregard the consequences of their actions.
ex:My father was almost T-boned at an intersection by a car that ran a red light, had he sped up to catch the light before it changed (he had green the whole time) he would have been hit.

And also, Hanlon's razor applies to this situation.
>Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
>>
>>35205188
thank god he stays there, his namefagging encouraged a bunch of others to namefag in hoard quest, which got old within 20 posts.
>>
>>35205120
I got the implication that all harpies refer to themselves in plural until taught not to. something to do with instinctive language
>>
>>35205196
I see no way how someone could put a hand on her back and press forward while the train wasn't there yet. Its not impossible, but purpose is more likely.
>>
>>35205196
I could accept that, but the situation (waiting for a train coming in, crowd of people around her, hand deliberately hitting her back just as the train pulls in) kind of makes that unlikely.
>>
>>35205196
>Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

So it was a guy trying to ask her out but he panicked and pushed her instead killing her? Tiny adventurer in the town is actually a murderer who freaked out when he saw Sarah's likeness in Lyra.
>>
>>35205196

It was implied that it was a hand giving us a hard shove forward, it wasn't someone stumbling into us or shuffling past and accidentally ramming us, it was a quick and hard shove.

>Our death was most likely chalked up to "Suicide" and never investigated.
>>
>>35205237
>>35205254
>>35205251
There were a bunch of people, the person pushing could just as easily been trying to push Lyra out of the way so that they would be first in line. In a press of bodies, the force of the shove ended up pushing her forwards instead
But we're getting off track, my point is, we could potentially debate every part of this fan theory. We could do that, till we're all dead, and we still wouldn't make much progress. Something's have to be taken as gives (i.e. someone intentionally killed lyra) for us to develop the theory anymore.

And fleshing out the theory is the fun part.

You grumble a bit, flattening yourself next to your new half-wolf rug.
"Finding the village was easy, yes. Straight through the arches, and on into the village."
"Mhm. Well done, yes? I fully expected you to crawl over the edge with another bear in tow."
"I would not."
"You have a habit, little one. A bear habit."
"That is not a thing."
"It is only a bear here and there now, but for how long? Before you know it, you're hunting bears all the time-"

You interrupt her with a little smirk of your own.
"So, why was everyone embarrassed about the other dust? Even Sil would not tell me what it was, yes."
Mom's jaw clamps shut, her cheeks burning instantly.
It feels good to not be the one blushing, for once.
"That is- Older. Yes. I will tell you when you are older."
"When is that?"
"A Lot Older. Years and years, yes."

You giggle a bit from your spot on the floor, wiggling you legs into more comfortable positions. Sheszka's breathing has already evened out, and she snores gently, her face smooshed into the nest. You watch her sleep, chest rising and falling, tail twitching as she starts to dream.
"The guards were rude, yes. Everyone was surprised by Sheszka."
Her ears twitch at her name, even in rest.
"When we told Nin that I had taken her, she declared- Ah, no. Nevermind."

Your mother smiles, raising an eyebrow at your sudden derail. She waits a few moments for you to start again, giving up and answering your question.
"It has been... a very, very long time since there were any wolves in the woods, yes? They spend so much time fighting, trying to rule each other- But none of them ever submit."
She shakes her head slowly.
"It does not end, little one."
>>
>>35205697
The silence is solemn, heavy.
You squirm a bit beneath its weight, squeaking out your secret to push it away.
"I, ah. I found a dungeon."
Mom watches you, blinking slowly.
"What?"

"There was a wide staircase, beneath a tree- and it was dark, but I couldn't even see through it- and when I stepped onto the stair, the runes carved into the walls pulsed, and a wave of them rushed down the hallway below-"
Your voice is picking up, and you can't keep our excitement from bursting out.
"-I'll go back. I'll get to go through a dungeon. I'll, I'll have to bring Jin. I promised- but it was- it was just- You could smell how old it was, yes? Just the feeling of the weight of time, the magic leading below. I wanted to follow it, I wanted to-"

You glance up, your mother quietly watching as you gush, her expression unreadable. You fall silent, and she swipes the hair from her eyes, sighing lightly as she looks at you.
"A dungeon in the woods. And one we haven't found... I wonder if it opened recently, then."
She pinches the bridge of her nose as she thinks, leaning back into her spider half.
"At the least, it is good you have the armour, yes. You will need to speak to your father about traps, youngling. Dungeons are not ruins. While you will mostly find undead, and elementals below... They are meant to kill, Lyra. People are not meant to find their treasures."

You watch her as she quiets, planning.
"It will be a busy few days for you, I think. I am tempted to say that you cannot go down without your father at least- and I am more tempted to simply do it myself- But I am thinking you would not tell me where it is, yes?"
You smile back, and she echoes it.
"Rest a while, little one. It will not go anywhere."

You yawn, chin against the floor, curling our arms beneath your head and closing your eyes.

If it was a male arachne and a female elf, would the kids be elves with arachne traits?

I'm guessing that monster traits are dominant. Arachne will always have arachne children (kinda like succubi from Rosario + vampire), but that does raise questions about how a human/elf would give birth to an arachne... harpies and moths not so much.

As promised: Extra evolution info!

Aside from the listed major change type arachne evolutions, there's an absurd number of half evolutions- There's progression into one of the hundred thousand 'Lord' type monsters. Lyra could be moving towards earth lord, or just regular lord (which is a monster who specializes in weapons). These evo's would introduce horns and gems somewhere on her body, with corresponding powers.

There's a few diet based evolutions, like vampires/ghouls, though they're not very likely.

>>35206076
It started your adventure, and it's definitely had an impact on how I've written Lyra.

>>
>>35206111

Is it possible to evolve multiple times in a single evolution cycle?

Like, Evolve into one of our greater monster forms, and while evolving into said form evolve into a Lord, so we emerge as ~Whatever~+Lord?
>>
>>35206111
>earth lord

We should just focus on weaving, spider rampage, and spellbreaking.

Those three provide us utility, smashing, and anti-mageworks.
>>

I'm fine with part-magic like we are now. Using it more as an ace-in-the-hole than as something to rely on all the time.

>At the absolute maximum, she might gain the ability to shapeshift partially, leaving her a chitin-clad elf with extra spider limbs extending from her back. I wouldn't permanently remove the initial draw of the quest.

>I am a giant spider
>Giant spider butt foomps out behind us.

i would restrict it to mostly utility, like getting past a cave-in or lifting us so we can reach something that is too tall for us to normally reach. useful stuff, just not really that useful in the middle of combat compared to just ripping something apart with our hands/weapons.

occasionally it could also be an escape card too, like raising barriers behind us as we run for our lives.

hell you could even fluff it into the story, the stronger our anti-magic ability gets the harder it becomes to do regular magic or something.

Y'know, when I imagine "Earth Lord Lyra" I don't see all these fancy jewels or shit on her, I see vines of ivy and thorns growing on our armor and a couple perfectly round rocks orbiting our Spiderbutt and head.

Our anti-magic doesn't work like that though. It works by taking command of the user's spell away from them, it's just that we only know how to dispel these stolen spells at this point. We are less of an anti-mage, and more of a spell thief.

The one earth lord in the book is an amazonian girl with horns and a starburst gem on each elbow.
>>
>>35206550
I don't see jewelry either.
The only shiny we have is shell and hair. Assuming polish and shampoo.

and our armor.

Can't be GLORIOUS CHEVALIER DRIDER KNIGHT LYRA WHO SAVES ALL THE BEAUTIFUL AND CUTE GIRLS with non-shiny armor!
>>
>>35206584
And the spell lord is a horned chick with tattoos up her arms and a gem centered on her forehead

But all the book characters start from a humanoid base

I miss when we were going to use Jin as our wingman when we couldn't go inside places to help us court the boys.
>>
>>35206609
exactly.
Shiny armor, shiny self.
>>
>>35206781
I'm still aiming for that
>>
>>35206781
That's still what we are going to do.
I just don't talk about it all the damn time.
>>
>>35206531
You know, it's occured to me that our inability to absorb mana might be tied to the fact that our soul originates from a world without magic. In the LN admiral turbo-sue got his powers from his previous life and the augmentations he got, right?

Ahahaha, fuck.
I looked it up- the mc gets internal mana control via eating a mage. He wasn't a born mage
