Travel through the Immaterium is as much an inexact science as it is an artform. The Imperium of Man relies on mutants, known as Navigators, to read the chaotic currents and steer their vessels to safety. They constantly flirt with damnation in order to successfully and to quickly move about the Galaxy. It’s not unheard of for a ship or an entire fleet to go wildly off course or to go missing entirely. As such, even the most foolhardy Navigator knows to drop into Realspace now and again to check their position.

As a being of Chaos, one especially attuned to the flow of the Warp, you easily outclass any mortal in this department. Strings can be pulled, the tide redirected in your favor. So far The Slayer of Raptor and The Faithful Inferno have made good time towards the Screaming Vortex under your guidance. You’re not entirely infallible, however. Now and again unexpected anomalies have cropped up on the “path” ahead of you. Most of the time you ignored them, only performing a course correction when absolutely necessary. All except for one.

This particular aberration in the flow of the Warp acted as a solid wall ahead of you. On dropping into the Materium to investigate, you were greeted by the sight of a massive Space Hulk drifting towards a Black Hole. Something aboard the Hulk was sustaining the disruption in the Warp, yet the Hulk itself was far too large to try and destroy outight. Cinder lept at the opportunity to stretch her legs and thus you were soon involved in another one of her crazy outings...

Welcome to another Lady of Change oneshot, part of Khornette Quest.

Call it Tzeetchette Quest again if you feel like it

If you’re a die-hard lover of canon, I suggest you turn away now. Also, depending on how things go, tonight might just be a tad silly. You’ve been warned in advance.

All rolls will go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure.

Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1 or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for, each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored.

No “Keikaku Dohri” points are available this time around; however, you can still get a nice bonus or two in the main quest if you succeed. Especially since this will basically be a stop along the way to wherever the group’s off to now. You’re just seeing it from Ignitrix’s POV.

If you have any questions/etc, now’s the time. Otherwise, I’ll push the first update in about 10 minutes.

Excessive meta/waifu/husbando/bitching goes to QTG. Blatant Samefaggotry will be ignored as will whining about MUH SLAANESH (Has been addressed here: http://pastebin.com/352cquWq). Use the filter: http://pastebin.com/QxMu8Rrr

“You see these heat emissions on towards the bow of the ship? Those are Blood Raven barges. And the ones towards the aft? Rak’gol.”

You wave the data slate in front of Cinder once more, indicating the aforementioned areas. “I know you’re eager to actually do something besides sitting around. But you can’t go rushing off in your usual fashion with those kinds of…”

Cinder raises a hand to cut you off. “That’s why I’m bringing Acerea and you along. I figure there’s nothing on that scrapheap that can withstand the might of three daemons. Even then, have you met me?”

An exasperated sigh passes from your lips. “I try to forget whenever I can.”

“Uh huh.”

The red-skinned daemon pats you atop the head before leaning back against her seat in the shuttle. You’re a short burn from a potential entry point on the Hulk, one situated roughly in the middle on the port side. The Raptor and the Inferno are currently running dark a good distance away. Luckily for everyone involved, neither the Marines nor the Xenos have noticed their exit from the Warp. Or perhaps they simply didn’t care.

“So do you have any clue what we’re even looking for?” asks Cinder after a few minutes of silence.

You’re quick to retort, “Your sanity, duh. No but really…” In the small space of time between breaths you cast out your mind towards the Hulk to try and get a better understanding of what’s ahead. The interference of the mysterious device made it nigh impossible back on the Raptor, but you’re able to make a little more headway now that the distance is less.

What you find isn’t good. You’ve largely steered clear of Tyranids in the past but it’s rather trivial for you identify their whisperings. There’s not a tremendously large contingency of them aboard but they’re there all the same. As for the device itself? It’s as if you’re staring into the Tyrant Star. It’s a pure ball of Warp-fuckery, even to you. Frustrating, but at least you know about the ‘nids now.

“So there’s…” You stop mid sentence as you realize both Acerea and Cinder are eyeing you with trepidation. It’s not hard to figure out why. The temperature of the air in the shuttle has plummeted drastically and a small layer of frost has coated every surface. Being daemons, the three of you are entirely unaffected by this other than the initial surprise.

Still, should you say something about it? This is the first time in a long while that this sort of thing has happened to you. It’s rather embarrassing actually.

You decide to berate yourself in private later for letting your concentration slip like that. For now, though, you continue on as if nothing is amiss.

“...There’s a group of Tyranids festering over there. Worst case we snag a few of them for Lazerus and send the Hulk screaming into the Black Hole.”

Cinder’s eyes immediately light up upon hearing that there’s another kind of foe for her to potentially fight. She doesn’t appear to care about the frost anymore. Acerea, however, continues to stare at you.

“But what about the device itself?” asks the plaguebearer. “Anything on that?”
“Nothing sadly,” you reply. “Then again, the unknown is always exciting. It’s a potential source of change in the status quo.”

Acerea frowns at that. “Sometimes the status quo is just fine, dearie. But there’s no sense arguing about it.” She pauses, takes a look at Cinder, then leans in to whisper, “You can fool her but not me. Is the flow of the Warp really that messed up or should I be worried about you?”

I have been wondering about something
did the arch on the last planet have any potential uses for us personally and we just left our treasure on said planet (instead of taking it inside our ship)

or was it just there for us to earn brownie points with the bosses for protecting it from the hyoomens?

did we actually earn any brownie points for protecting it?
>>
>>35269650

You respond in kind, voice low while Cinder has starry-eyed visions of tearing apart genestealers. “I… Yes it’s pretty bad. The only thing I’ve encountered like it is the Tyrant Star and that’s my Master’s personal plaything.”

“I see… well let’s be careful about our powers then. It might get worse the closer we get.”

It’s a fairly logical assumption, one you came to about five milliseconds after looking at the Hulk the first time. Still the fact that Acerea’s picked up on it makes you feel slightly more frustrated with yourself for slipping up.

Nodding in agreement, you clear your throat and return to a normal speaking voice. “No I don’t think portals are a good idea here. Between the device and the Black Hole, who knows what could happen.”

Cinder laughs at that for some reason. “More time for me to spend tracking, hunting, and stalking prey then. Besides, we’ve never had a proper exit strategy before and now is not the time to start.”

Some days you wonder why you gave up liquor.

A resounding thunk and reverberation through the deckplates indicates that you’ve arrived at the Hulk. You can hear the shuttle’s airlock trying to negotiate with its counterpart on the scrapheap, air hissing as the pressure equalizes. Technically, as daemons, all three of you could survive in pure vacuum. But if there was an atmosphere and/or gravity available aboard, you’d gladly take it.

Eventually the airlock cycles and opens to reveal a large, grungy interior of what you can only assume used to be a hydroponics bay. Dead plant mass abounds across countless rows of shelves, though there are patches where living greenery is present. Once Cinder’s charged out to secure the room, Acerea beelines for one such patch to examine it. Otherwise the room’s largely empty. There are three doors leading off to the north, west, and the east.

Why protect a planet that was only good for a Warp artifact?
>>
>>35270074

The northern one seems to have something written over it that you can’t quite make out from the shuttle. As for the east and west doors, they’re really more like partitioning walls.

By the time you’ve left the shuttle behind you, Cinder’s already bouncing between the east and west doors like an excited puppy. If she wasn’t half-again your size and a living embodiment of combat and death incarnate, the sight of her tail wagging back and forth might be adorable.

“So… where first?” you ask, interrupting one of her traversals.

She beams and points to the east door first. “I can smell human sweat in that direction. Relatively fresh too. And in the other…” She points to the west door. “Is a series of claw marks that would make a Blood Dragon blush. I’m sure you can guess which one I’m thinking of taking.”

“The northern one, clearly,” you say while rolling your eyes. Now that you’re close enough, you can see that it has an ornate banner over it that reads “The Word is Svenhu.” An ancient religious saying perhaps?

In any case, Cinder quickly corrals Acerea and you towards the door on the left. Just before she opens it, however, a hidden speaker by the northern one begins blaring:

++That’s fine! I didn’t want to open anyways! You couldn’t make me open even if you tried! So there! Ha!++

Normally you’d ignore a taunt, let alone one coming from a door. But not today. Turning on your heels, you fire right back at the door. “It’s not like we wanted to open you anyhow! Now shut up!”

Cinder’s entire body freezes mid-reach for the activation run next to the west door. Slowly her head turns to look at you with bemusement. “Are you… arguing with a door?”

You try (and fail) not to poof up. “No!”

“Well now I think we should just go through the northern door then. Since you two are best friends and all.”

Your left eye twitches. Hello old friend. “Fine! Whatever!”

As you de-poof, Cinder and Acerea come to stand before the talking door. It remains sealed despite Cinder’s attempts otherwise.

++Ahaha! Stupid fleshy things! I open only for those with the correct access! TREMBLE BEFORE MY POWER OVER YOU!++

Acerea turns away and tries not to double over laughing. Cinder just seems taken aback and torn between whether to claw it open or to ask you for advice.

The door flies open and the speaker shuts off. Beyond lies a rather plain, straight corridor with another closed door at the end. For once, Cinder seems to be looking to you for direction.

Obviously, you'll be lording your victory over the door by taking the machine spirit with you. But should you actually go down that corridor?

It takes you some effort to get the panel off of the activation rune next to the door. From there it’s a relatively simple process to extract the vanquished machine spirit into your data slate for safe keeping. It whines in big, bold, red letters across the screen until you take away its ability to do more than pout. You’d deal with it later.

For now, though, you’ve got a seemingly empty corridor ahead of you.

“After you, Madam Inquisitor…” you give a mock bow and motion for Cinder to take the lead. She does so rather eagerly and soon the three of you are midway down the passageway. Nothing jumps out from the corroded walls or falls from the ceiling or anything of the like. It all seems relatively normal.

That is, until you realize that you’ve been walking for a couple minutes and haven’t gotten closer to the door at the other end.

You clear your throat and pipe up. “Uh… one sec…” You turn and try to run back towards the door from whence you came… only to run right into Cinder who was supposed to be behind you.

“I thought we agreed not to teleport around?” remarks Acerea, again looking worried.

“That wasn’t me,” you reply. “But I think it’s obvious that we’ve walked into some kind of trap.”

Cinder grumbles and sits on the floor. “Stupid Warp trickery. I could have been fighting Tyranids. But nnooooooo…”

>>
>>35271680

Pointing at the western wall of the corridor, you interrupt her complaints. “We probably can still do that. All you have to do is tear that wall down. It should be nothing for someone like you.”

“Well if the doors are any indication…” Cinder laughs at her own joke and hops up onto her feet. She sizes up a spot on the wall before her, then swipes her claws across it several times. The immaterial tearing aspect of her chosen weapon splits the metal open like it never existed in the first place. Beyond lies a pitch black room of unknown size. You can feel a slight breeze coming from the hole but otherwise all is the same as it was.

Before any of you try to step into the adjacent room, however, you perform a few quick tests to discern the nature of the anomaly you’re stuck in. Any object that’s thrown into the room travels as it should. The loud echoing sound that accompanies its landing tells you that you’re dealing with something the size of one of the Raptor’s cargoholds.

You’re able to conjure up a ball of fire without so much as a fuss or sign that the Warp has other ideas. With a little molding you turn it into a flare as opposed to an actual fireball: brighter, less hot, likely to be thrown a greater distance, and so on. A quick flick of your wrist sends it flying into the room beyond. It gets about thirty feet in before it impacts a seemingly solid, yet invisible wall.

That’s when the same part of the wall grows a head. A pair of eyes. That’s no wall or darkness at all. That’s a mass of Tyranid Gaunts sleeping. Or it was, anyways. Cinder’s already halfway through the hole before you can scarcely blurt out “See! I told you!”

Still that’s a LOT of biomass to cleave through, even for Cinder. She could probably use your help. That or you should make sure to keep a couple alive.

By the way ELH, you wrote up a large buncha words on the Slaanesh issue, but honestly I still don't really understand it.

Does this mean that they'll be background enemies (Mooks), and mini-bosses as such, but we won't get any real named villains (Like the Inquisitor)? Sorry for bringing it up, it's just the tiny bit you wrote about actually including them was a little unspecific.
>>
>>35268268
Oh yeah, I don't think people got mad because ELH decided not to shine the spotlight on Slaaneshis in his quest, but rather that he won't let the spotlight travel anywhere near or over Slaaneshis. Like we want to go somewhere for tech, but we can't because a Slaaneshi lives five houses down the street from it.

>>
Guys, stop arguing about it, even the very mention of it is most likely filtered out by ELH, in my opinion one of the worst moves a QM could make, but that's beside the point.

I will say one of the anons has a point about the vagueness, however ELH doesn't seem to want to commune directly with his player base, again one of the worst moves I feel a QM could make.

So, in the end we just have to sit tight and deal with whatever ELH has for us, as short of flooding an entire thread, I doubt he'll listen to anyone, and even then, he'd most likely just leave the thread until it dies down, like last time.
>>
>>35273613
Well, it's not like having a Slaaneshi around would help anything besides making things awkward and autistic. But having a team of Chaos Sentai would have been good for a laugh.
>>
>>35273695
It would have and I would have liked to have a Slaaneshi who wasn't a sex fiend, but such is the way of things.

ELH was just so disgusted with the namefag that he didn't even want to approach anything that would be considered the realization of the namefag's desires.

>>
>>35273727
A dancer obsessed with the fluidity of motion. An engineer who devotes his life to improving his machine. A ship captain whose life goal is to create the most amazing stamp collection. All are vulnerable to the taint of Slaanesh.

Problem is that those things take slightly more thought than "hurr sexual deviancy hurt me more snake" so most people just go with the lowest common denominator.
>>
>>35273695
Depends what we're talking about here.
The prince of pleasure is far more than just "Lel sex", it's about being excessive in everything you do, how you do it, why you do it, and what you do it with.

Which leads to hilariously disgusting things in the book series, such as having capes sewn out of flesh, the very mention of Fabius Bile shouldn't inspire arousal as people seem to think it should, they're sick and twisted people, doing sicker and twisted things.

Admittedly, that's a bit out of place in Khornette quest though, so the only real way you could perform it light heartedly would be, I guess, as happy sexy fun time daemons.

A loud and resounding “SKREEEE” denotes the first few Gaunts disengaging from their pile to leap at Cinder with abandon. The Khornate easily slices through them with a single swipe of her claws, sending biomass of all sorts flying. This doesn’t deter the Tyranids so much as it enrages them. It’s not long before she’s surrounded by the horde proper, the glint of her claws the only thing occasionally visible through a whirlwind of carnage. You might be concerned if it were anyone else. If anything, you start to worry that Cinder will kill them all before you can wrangle even one.

The outer edges of the Tyranid mass seem torn between whether to continue headlong into the slaughter or to round on Acerea and you. A few have already tried charging at you on their own, only to get a mixture of fire and acid thrown at them. Eventually a decent sized pack, perhaps fifty Gaunts in all, disengages from the main fray and moves at you en masse.

Your left hand glows with warpfire as you disintegrate those at the forefront of this wave. You use your right hand to summon forth your force sword just before the remnants reach you. Soon you’re tearing through the swarm much like Cinder, albeit with a plaguebearer at your back.

“So are they everything you thought they’d be?” you ask of Acerea, slicing your sword upwards to sever several scything talons intent on your neck.

“And then some~” she replies. You’ve only had a few precious milliseconds to look in her direction here and there between slashes and fireblasts, but she seems to be doing fine despite the fact she has no actual weapons or armor. “I think I can pin a couple down with some webbing once their numbers have thinned.”

“I just hope Lazerus is happy that we thought about him.Though I can’t imagine the shuttle crews will be thrilled about having to transport living bioweapons.”

“Well they cart Cinder around, right?”

You try not to smile. “Fair point. On your left!”

(cont)
>>
>>35276421

Together the two of you reduce the horde’s numbers to a mere shadow of its former self. Using a series of carefully aimed pulses of warpfire and feints with your sword you’re able to push them against the corridor wall. Once there, Acerea begins spraying them with a pestilent sort of ooze that quickly hardens in place and seals their movements. Try and protest as they might, the gaunts are stuck.

“Are you ladies quite done over there?”

Oh right, Cinder. Turning, you see her sitting atop a pile of corpses, idly staring at her claws. She seems hardly less for the wear, though you do note she’s sporting a couple of already-healing gashes. If anything said wounds serve to give her more energy and joy. That or she’s extremely pissed. You’re pretty sure her tail moving like that means the former though.

Acerea calls back in short order. “We’re fine~. We should figure out how to get back to where we were and send these…” She motions at the squealing Gaunts. “Back to the Raptor.”

“Agreed. Got any ideas Ignitrix?”

Seconded. When the Warp is messing with you, trust the Khornate to find something to fight!

However, can we not do something with our powers, to try and see if there's anything else alive in the vicinity? You know, kinda like a psychic Auspex?

You could. It'd be a perception check. Or did we decide Psyniscience was willpower? I honestly forget.
>>
>>35276431

You rub your chin in thought, eyeing the corridor and the room Cinder’s in in turn. “For once, I’m inclined to defer to you on this one, Cinder. If space is warped this badly…” You trail off and let their imaginations fill in the blanks. With proper time and effort you probably could discern the exact nature of the corridor. Though that same time would be better spent on finding a different way around. Or so you think, anyways.

“Alright then! Let’s see…” Cinder hops off of her pile and begins to scan the room. Acerea and you follow behind, leaving the Gaunts frozen in the corridor. There are two doors out of the room. One is scarcely in one piece from all the tears in it, while the other barely has a dent.

“This is just a hunch, but I think we’re down a few levels from where we came in.” The Khornate follows this statement up by pointing at a big “6B” painted in gold against one of the walls. “We came in on 3A.”

So that deceptively straight corridor was even worse than you thought. Joy.

“I take it you’re inclined to go that way?” you ask, pointing at the shredded door.

“You know me all too well. The Gaunts won’t be able to escape, right Acerea?”

The plaguebearer thinks for a moment, then walks back over to the xenos. She does something that causes them to cry out in alarm before returning. “Short of a cluster of grenades or two, they’re not going anywhere~”

“Wonderful! Then we don’t need to backtrack as originally planned. Besides, I have an idea on that anyways.” Cinder produces her microbead and activates it. “Proditus, I need you to send over a team of our best warriors. And I actually mean good ones. Ones capable of not killing themselves from sheer stupidity. They’re going to be escorting some guests to Lazerus. No I don’t want you to send Tigurius. Yes I’m sure.”

She ends the “call” with a sigh. “Mortals.”

In attempting to discern what might lie beyond the door in the passageways beyond you hit a wall. The same wall that brought you to this Hulk in the first place. It seems you’re going in blind. You’re just glad that you didn’t invoke any psychic phenomena. Or, rather, you are until Cinder opens the door and it echos rather oddly. A very low level and temporary disturbance of reality but one all the same.

Neither of the other daemons seem to have picked up on it though. Cinder’s already stepped through with Acerea, leaving you at the rear of the procession. The hallways beyond twist and turn seemingly without conscious design. As you go further into the belly of the beast you take note of the fact that your surroundings seem to be growing steadily older. It makes sense given the nature of space hulks in general, but it still isn’t something that puts your mind at ease.

“Hold up a second.” Cinder stops some distance away from a T-shaped intersection up ahead. “There’s something around the corner.”

Finally you catch a break in the psychic department. Not only are you able to determine that there’s a Synapse Creature ahead, but that it’s also a Zoanthrope. Essentially an extremely intelligent, living piece of psychic artillery. The kind of Tyranid that Cinder would no doubt delight in tearing apart but might have trouble with if you weren’t around.

So subtle are you in your probing that the Zoanthrope doesn’t appear to have noticed your presence. It’s currently in the middle of what you assume is another swarm of Gaunts. Beyond the Tyranids is the endpoint of a loop in spacetime. A careful study reveals it to be the other end of the twisted corridor from before, intersecting the route from this end and two others.

“Well I have good news and bad news. Which do you want first?”

Cinder mulls this over for a second. “The bad.”

“There’s a powerful ‘nid ahead. A Zoanthrope if you know what that is.”

“Not a clue, but that sounds more like good news to me.”

You sigh deeply. “It’s a being that relies on massive amounts of psychic energy. Both offensively and defensively. It can melt tanks with its mind.”

“Well so can you and you’re hardly any trouble to handle.”

Sometimes you wonder if your plumage might get stuck poofed out one of these days. “I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.”

“Oh hush you love it. What’s the good news then?”

“The good news is I figured out where that corridor from before went. We could actually avoid the Zoanthrope, go around, and still end up on the right ‘path.’”

Acerea has remained quiet the entire time but chooses now to speak. “Maybe the disturbance in the boundaries of reality will dampen the being’s power? I kind of want to speak to it though. Imagine if I could…” She trails off, eyes slightly glazed over at the thought. You’re not sure that you’ll ever truly understand her odd obsession with the Tyranids.

“I could project your words or thoughts to it if you want,” you offer. The plaguebearer positively glows when she hears it, while Cinder just folds her arms and shakes her head. “Worst case Cinder here will just have to go introduce herself.”

“I like introducing myself, thank you very much. It’s always…” Her reply is cut short by her microbead beeping. She groans and opens the comm line. “What is it? ...You can’t be serious.”

“Problem with the rank and file?” you ask, trying to discern the half of the conversation you’re missing.

“Well where are you now? Any losses? No your pocket watch does not count as a loss. Sure I’ll speak with him.”

By now you’re just glaring at Cinder and waiting for her to explain. She finally mutes her microbead and brings a claw to her face. “Remember those Blood Ravens? They stopped the collection crew on their way out. Apparently I have SOMEONE competent among them because the Marines believe the group to be working for the Ordo Xenos. One of the Marines wants to speak to the ‘Madam Inquisitor,’ though.”

You try not to smirk. “Well you do that then while Acerea and I talk to her crush.”

The Khornate pinches the bridge of her nose, walks a couple of meters away, then reactivates her microbead. That just leaves you with Acerea and the Zoanthrope. It’s not all that hard to project a thought in the being’s direction. It’s just a question of how to approach it.

You decide to act only as a medium for Acerea. She can approach the Zoanthrope however she wants to. This way you can also semi-focus on the (probably) more interesting conversation occurring several meters away. A quick brush against the Plaguebearer’s mind and the Zoanthropes establishes the link. The latter shrieks in alarm, audible both in your mind and from around the corner.

“Daemonssss, what do you want?” It’s an odd-sounding voice, a mix of Contralto and gravel with a hint of s.

You gesture for Acerea to speak normally. She nods and does just that. “Well we wanted to say ‘Hi’ before our other friend lept in and started tearing you apart. See if we could avoid it, that sort of thing.”

The ‘thrope chitters in response. “Sssssso you are why half of my flock issss gone from my mind.”

“Yeah that would be us. Sorry about that. To be fair though, they did try to eat us.”

“That’ssss what they’re ssssupposed to do…”

A sudden outburst from Cinder causes you to flinch. “NO YOU MAY NOT INSPECT MY SHUTTLE OR MY VESSEL. IF YOU SO MUCH AS COME WITHIN FIFTY METERS OF EITHER I WILL PERSONALLY…”

“Who’sssss that?”

“A very angry daemon,” replies Acerea. “But justified as usual in her case. Aren’t you glad we’re talking instead of you having to deal with that?”

“It doessss not ssssound like fun. What issss it that you really want from me?”

“GIVE HIM HIS FUCKING POCKET WATCH BACK TOO.”

Clearing your throat, you speak to the ‘thrope for the first time. “I have an idea on that actually. It sounds like our friend is having problems with some Space Marines. Why not show her you’re a potential ally by dealing with them?”

A “hrm” type of sound meets your remark. “More biomasssss is alwaysssss welcome. But I mussst know: ssshould I do thissss, can you take me away from thissss place?”

Acerea and you look over at Cinder, then at each other. “I don’t see why not. It’s entirely possible if you do a good enough job that the angry one will congratulate you personally. And I mean the good kind, not the ‘tear into tiny bits’ kind.”

By now Cinder’s one step below literally smouldering. You’re actually impressed that she hasn’t started tearing a hole through a wall towards the Marines to deal with them herself. This next bit of good news should calm her down somewhat. So you hope anyways.

“Hey, Cinder,” you begin. She glares at you, listening to both you and the Marine on the other end of her microbead. “You know those Tyranids up ahead? We convinced them to go handle your Marine problem for you.”

Her eyes narrow. If you had to guess, she’s torn between joy at having her annoyance dealt with and anger at having a fight taken away. She mutes the bead and quickly asks, “Do they know about the ones we have?”

“The Gaunts? Yes the Zoanthrope knows. So long as it gets them back and we take them with us they’re happy to help.”

“I see. Headpat for you later. Yelling at Marines now.”

She unmutes herself and resumes shouting. “DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT I CAN DECLARE YOUR ENTIRE CHAPTER HERETICS… NO THE BOXES DO NOT CONTAIN ANYTHING VALUABLE! STOP ASKING.” Her head twitches slightly as she switches frequencies. “My advice? Either start running or stay there and die like warriors. NO I AM NOT COMING TO HELP YOU.”

Finally she tears the bead from her ear and crushes it in her palm. “Why in the ever loving Warp did I sign up for management?”

Acerea and you share a laugh. “Well the way forward is clear, shall we?”

“Yes. Let’s. And I swear I’d better return to my shuttle to find that Zoanthing literally eating the brains of some red-colored idiots.”

And thus the three of you press onwards. You pass through the hold where the Tyranids had been but minutes before, obvious signs of their passing everywhere. Beyond you hit the four way intersection as foreseen in your psychic probing. Said intersection is multileveled, with the path you’re coming from about midway up. Both the left and the right are at the top, and the passageway ahead is below. Ladders connect all of them, rickety looking ones at that.

Vague sounds of combat drift from the right. Silence from the other two. You’re vaguely aware that whatever the device is that you sent out to find is towards the left. Given a Hulk’s layout, though, that could actually be the wrong direction.

After clambering up the ladders the three of you head down the left corridor. Eventually you come to a small room with a single button on a pedestal. Save for a potted fern in the corner of the room, the only other thing of note is the locked door across from you.

“Think you’ll have to argue with another door?” prods Cinder, both verbally and against your left side.

“By Tzeentch I hope not,” you reply. “One door with an attitude is enough for one day.”

Acerea wanders over to examine the plant, leaving Cinder and you staring between the door and the button.

“Should we press it?”

“Hold on a second. Let me see if I can figure out what it’ll do first.”

Without tearing apart the pedestal and risking disrupting whatever mechanism the button is connected to, you’re only able to discern but so much. Still, what you do figure out is a great deal. When pressed, both doors will lock and a ten second countdown will begin. The walls have been jury rigged to display this countdown in low gothic numerals and do not contain any traps like hidden flamers or explosives.

Well, best you can tell, really. You also don’t know what will happen if the countdown completes. You think if you press the button again it’ll reset but again you’re not sure.

“It’s tied to a countdown of sorts. I think we have to press it unless that plant has something special about it.”

The pair of you look over at Acerea. She’s carrying the pot in her hands and looking over it intently. “Umm… best I can tell it’s just a fern. Someone’s been watering it though!”

Cinder snorts. “Well at least we wouldn’t die of dehyrdation then. Oh wait. We’re daemons.”

Her deadpan delivery causes you to smile. “So… push it then?”

She answers by pushing it herself. As predicted, the countdown begins with a large “9” being displayed. The door behind you seals itself and leaves the three of you stuck in the room.

You motion for Acerea to place the plant on the button. After she does so the countdown remains frozen at “9.” Nothing else happens.

After a few minutes of waiting, Cinder walks over to the originally-closed door and begins tearing it to shreds. Just when you think it is about to fall over, another door comes slamming down in its place. Try as hard and as fast as she can, doors keep appearing. It’s rather impressive actually.

After waiting tensely for the countdown to finish, both doors finally open with a loud hiss. Another potted plant drops down from a hidden chute in the ceiling, along with a card:

“Plant Dispensed. Have a pleasant day.”

All three of you look over this card with a combination of amusement and confusion. Acerea pockets her new plant as well.

“I don’t even want to know what the purpose of that was,” you remark.

“Something stupidly mortal, I’m sure,” replies Cinder.

“Well the door’s open so shall we…?”

A short walk later sees you overlooking an immense cavern of sorts. It’s countless kilometers in length, width, and depth. In the middle sits a shining, white space vessel. Though you are extremely knowledgeable about most everything, this is something new. if you had to guess, it’s a remnant from the Dark Age of Technology. But even then, it shares features with current-generation ships. Odd. But at least you now know what’s causing the disturbance.

“So uh… how do we deal with that then?” Cinder, for once, seems at a loss for words.

"In my book" usually means in my personal opinion, meaning I like them more then I like Blank. Also, how would a mortal prevent Tyranids from getting close to him ? His blankness just makes them agressive, it doesn't actually hinder them besides dempening the hive connection which they don't need to fuck his shit up.

Rak'gols won't listen. As for how bad, imagine Orks crossbred with Dark Eldars. Should give you an idea.

To get Rak'gol, you take Nids' natural Biological levels of "Kill EVERYTHING EVER" with the Orkz bullshit effective-for-being-so-god-damn-primitive (Even more Primitive tech that the fucking Orks, holy shit) with the sheer and utter sadism and Body-modification hard-ons of the Dark Eldar along side the cybernetics fuckery of the Orks.

For god's sake, their "Power Weapons" are just weapons they strapped a tiny nuclear reactor onto, so they act as power weapons AND have a field of radiation around them.

You can't even get on their ships because the life support isn't really a thing, and their ships are nuclear powered with virtually no radiation shielding.

Oh yeah, and they are barely sapient, if sapient at all as they don't actually even have a language beyond obscure grunts in random patterns.
