LAST EPISODE: You discovered that prisoners dislike prison guards.
- - -

Okay. You are staring into the face of Fenris, or Fenrir, or the Wolf Who Heralds Ragnarok, or whatever else you want to call a giant ghost/demon wolf. It also looks very very unhappy and grumpy. Not to mention that, while there aren't any other ghosts here in this Tower, they're probably all mobbed behind you in the other Towers, so you can't just escape through the wall.

You've certainly been in less dangerous positions.

On the plus side, you've found Yurei! She's trapped inside a large stalagmite of ice. She's not the only one, you see plenty of other frozen ghosts here. Apparently, ghosts that don't get along with the general population of the Containment Unit get frozen and trapped here. It also seems that Fenrir is the only one who guards them.

Then again, the Wolf who Brings The End of the World might be all the guard you'd need.

Fenrir doesn't seem like it's moments away from launching at your throat. It's growling at you, and huffing plumes of cold 'air' from its mouth. But it doesn't look like it's going to actively attack.

It is standing between you and the frozen prisoners.

> You'd rather take your chances with the ghost hordes, jump back through the portal.
> Attack Fenrir. At the very least, you'll be the first 'Man of Cathay' to see Valhalla!
> Blast Yurei's frozen prison open, and both of you can make a crazed run for it.

Let's not guess, perhaps there is a solution here we're not seeing.

Fenris is a representation of Ice. Kylie Griffin managed to wrangle him and use him to push Surt back into the cointainment unit, as surt represented fire the two forces exploded.

In any event, Fenrir isn't making a move to attack us. We make a move, he likely will as well. So we better decided why we'd be moving and what are we planning to do.

That's why it really isn't that generous to let us roll dice. It's even worse than normal critical failure.

Now all we know now is that there probably IS something we should spot, and we're not fucking going to be able to do that.
>>
>>35268675
Like for instance, are all the frozen ghosts and Fenrir located within the tower?
>>
>>35268584
You notice that there are two frozen ice prisons that are different than the others.

Firstly, they're larger.

Secondly, the ice is black, and there's that Red PKE crackling around them. So, unlike the others, it'll probably take more than just a single blast to open them.

One prison holds a short, humanoid figure in a black robe, he is hairless, and his skin is shock white. He's holding what could either be a blowgun or a flute.

The other, is a sphinx. You know enough to know what a lion with a female human face is.

You also notice that, right behind Yurei's prison is a woman with long blonde hair. She isn't as heavily trapped as the others, but you can't free her without blasting THROUGH Yurei, and hurting her.

You can maybe free the other two...but you aren't sure if you can get them free before Fenrir gets to you.

> Try to free the Sphinx.
> Try to free the white-skinned humanoid.
> Try to free the blonde woman. This WILL hurt Yurei...but you can apologize to her later.
> Free Yurei and run for it.

>>
Unrelated, but Fenris is here this area must be linked to Central.

Where it possible, and not probably the most dangerous option of all to head directly towards Fenris' reinforcements and masters, it'd be interesting to exit through Central's containment unit airlock and pop out in New York.
>>

That isn't the same Sphinx that turned new yorkers into drooling wrecks is it?

Don't think XGB, think original series and JMS.
>>
>>35268837
...So what, does the ghost roll just mean we saw a bunch of things we don't want to free?

I kind of feel like just freeing Yurei is still our best option, so that did the opposite of help.
>>
>>35269014
That's not necessarily true, remember it's been stated they are here because they didn't show the same hatred towards the GB the rest did.
>>

Or maybe, they are here because they tried to take over the place.

>>
>>35269011
I dunno about JMS, but in the original cartoon the Sandman fits the description.

>Short
>Humanoid
>Black Robe
>hairless
>White Skin
>Blowgun (sand blower)

He wasn't evil. . .just, misguided. He wanted everyone to sleep and dream a better dream I think.
>>
>>35269011
The Sandman? I guess he could come in handy if he could be convinced to help us and if ghosts can sleep.
>>
>>35269130
Yeah, he wanted to end all war and pain by putting everyone to sleep for 500 years in a dreamworld, maybe where they could resolve their differences.

But who are the other two then?
>>
>>35269125
>>35269130
Free the Sandman. Our best bet at getting out of here is him putting Fenrir to sleep.
>>
>>35269160
Or he puts us to sleep.

Then again, we ARE wearing a special ecto-hazard suit, so his sand shouldn't be able to get to us!

Yeah, get the sandman.
>>

>>
>>35268837
>Enter Sandman
Exit light, enter night.
>>
>>35269234
Well, we're wearing a suit at least so he won't be able to make us sleep unless our suit is breached.

If our suit is breached we're dead anyway.

Nevermind valhalla, if we die we're not gonna see the outside of this containment unit till the judgement day.
>>
>>35269312
If we don't get out and help the others, that will be sooner than it seems.
>>
>>35268837
> Try to free the white-skinned humanoid.
>>
>>35269160
>>35269206
>>35269244

You recognize the pale humanoid from the case files from Central. That's the Sandman, or A Sandman at least. Either way, he wasn't listed as aggressively hostile, as far as ghosts went, and he probably doesn't want to be trapped in that block of ice. You hope.

Sadly, it looks like someone had the same fear and took precautions. Hence the black ice and red PKE field.

> Just try a regular proton blast. It's quick, it's powerful, and if you're lucky it'll break it open before Fenrir reacts.

>>
>>35269430
Slime is a sponge that soaks up everything around it.

We do that, we better hope ours is more positively charged that how negatively charged the glowing black PKE ice is. . .in the containment unit.

Damned if we didn't supercharge the stuff by soaking up the vibes from the Youkai party.
>>
>>35269413
>See if slime does the trick. You never know, Posi-slime can have some really dramatic reactions.
Can't risk hurting Yurei.
>>
>>35269413
>See if slime does the trick. You never know, Posi-slime can have some really dramatic reactions.
Boson dart is tempting, but we might break out someone else we didn't/wouldn't want.
>>
>>35269469
I don't doubt that there may be people in here we wouldn't want to break out, but I'm wondering if there isn't a significant number who we would.

Thankfully collateral damage in this case amounts to giving someone a really bad ouchy, but you can't kill what's already dead. . .or never alive in the first place.

Well, without something big like say, total protonic reversal.
>>

It's NOT a "cold-beam" or a "freeze-ray". It is a particle stream of darkmatter that will light normal matter and walls on fire. However, due to it's nature it also soaks up PKE and strips it away, causing the remaining ecto-plasm to crystalize and solidify.

Granted, this air is so hyper charged with PKE and likely saturated with ectoplasm/slime it'd probably just crystalize midair.

Your world fills with searingly bright light and noise.
CRASH! Tinkle...tinkle....
You hear Fenrir roar...and then a fwooosh! And a semi-whimpering sound and a dull THUD.

You blink as your vision returns and you see the Sandman standing over an unconscious Fenris. His eyes narrow at you and he frowns.

"So," He says. "You finally pay attention to the suffering of others." His voice is a gasping wheeze. He shakes a finger at you. "You think this is as pulling a thorn from a Lion's Paw? You expect me to be grateful?"

"Maybe?" You say.

"No. I...am not." He says. "But I am in debt." He looks at the rest of the frozen ghosts. "Humility they said. The Great Ones, the Founders, our Patrons, call them what you will...they thought it would be 'Good' for us. Teach us a lesson." He nods towards the Sphinx. "Bastet treated it like a funny joke. She was not amused.

"But we accepted it. Accepted the decrees of Those Who Are. Accepted that we had...overstepped, and made errors. We accepted our punishment, and knew that we would be eventually returned."

The Sandman turns to you. "But you didn't stop, did you? You just kept piling them in, the wretched, the vile, the ones who respect no one but themselves. What could we do against the hordes? How else were we to survive but to bow and scrape, and agree to serve those that could crush us in our time of weakness, our time of penance?"

The Sandman points at you. "But then, one of Those Above freed us. Took the Djinn through hidden ways, and placed her back into the world." He sniffs. "Word is she escorted some others to another realm, destiny nonsense...hope she's happy."

he turns. "Do you know what they did then? They turned on us in fury! They locked us in here, beat us, abused us, tortured us. We who had accepted the terms...and now look."

>"But then, one of Those Above freed us. Took the Djinn through hidden ways, and placed her back into the world." He sniffs. "Word is she escorted some others to another realm, destiny nonsense...hope she's happy."

>Hidden ways

Oh man, this is really fucking bad if there's a breach in our containment units. Even worse that somehow they're able to coordinate with each other through them.

>>35270867
>>35270883
We didn't design it this way, it just formed this way naturally around them.

We could create different containment units for separate ghosts though, but after all this information there is GOING to need to be major rethinking.
>>
>>35270780
The Sandman gestures to the frozen ghosts and then sags. "The worst thing...the worst thing is that we know that Our Masters can free us. But they do not. They either do not care to know, or they do know and care not. There is nothing but the cold and the laughter of absent Gods and vile usurpers. All thanks to you."

"What do you want me to do about it?" You ask. "Free you?"

"Pah!" The sandman waves his hand. "And disobey my Command? I would be WORSE than the scum that fills this land. I have many WANTS mortal, and YOU can provide NONE of them."

"Should I free the others?" You ask.

The Sandman, again, waves his hand dismissively. "So they can lock us all up again? Torture us again? And make no mistake, mortal. There are PLENTY of us who would see no shame in making you suffer for a moment or twelve before we returned to our penance." He scowls. "You came for the child, yes? She's one of YOU, isn't she?"

You nod.

"Take her, and then go." The Sandman says.

"I think there's a host of ghosts waiting for us on the other side of that wall." You say. "They'd tear us apart."

"I find myself, 'strangely' uncaring about that fact." The Sandman says with a sneer. "I will keep the Wolf asleep, so that we are no longer tormented by it, but I'd prefer our solitude, so that we may await our...'parole' without the rabble hounding us."

He turns his back on you.

"What if I were to free someone else?" You say.

"I will not stop you." The Sandman says.

You blast the crystal holding Yurei and she collapses to the ground. Then gets up and embraces you in a hug.

Okay...now how are you going to get out of here? You can't just leave the Tower. The only way Yurei can get out is if she leaves through the Cherry Tree Gateway outside of the Tokyo Containment Tower.

Not to mention, I do think an apology is in order.

We, the Ghostbusters as a whole, were wardens of this prison we created. We put everyone in here, from the most genocidal of spirits to those that accepted that it needed to be done for the greater good (Siren and a few others).
These were spirits who either honestly wanted to repent for their mistakes, or who helped the Ghostbusters take down some of the bigger threats, and we left them in here for the violent offenders from SUPERMAX to toy with.

And the Ghostbusters DID know this.
They knew Siren was in here. They knew that Stay Puft had reformed.
And they just left them in here because it was inconvenient to think of a way to get them out.
>>
>>35270915
(Let me rephrase what happened with the Djinn. Some Gods, needed a djinn in order to take some designated mortals to another world so destiny could be upheld, evil defeated, and blah blah blah. So they removed a well-behaved djinn from the unit on a 'work-release' program, and ONLY her. She's in the other world with the mortals. There's no breach, just some, literal, divine intervention.)
>>
>>35270997
>Free one of the other Penitent Ghosts and see if they'll help
Syren. She helped the Ghostbusters not just once, but twice, and both the Original and the Extreme Ghostbusters left her here to rot and get raped.

This thing is meant to hold gods, dangerous gods, like Surt or Fenris.

>We can waltz her ass straight out.
Eduardo had the same opportunity, and he left her behind so that he and Slimer could get out.

Egon went into the Containment Unit before, and he didn't even try to get her.

They even ghost the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man out of the Containment Unit once in order to showcase him for a TV ad, and to get paid, showing they were perfectly willing to risk the dangers of the Containment Unit and its hate-filled prisoners for $10,000, but they conveniently forget about anyone being tortured who doesn't instantly translate into cash for them.

So, I'm seeing a few votes to free Syren? I'm not sure if that's a repeat or not.

Just a reminder, please remember that the exit to the Containment Unit is on the Outside of the Tower. Ghosts can't exit towers they weren't originally from.

That means that Yurei can't leave this Tower, and that Syren can't leave the Japan Tower.

Hrm. Idea. If they are in this area with Fenris, no one else will bother them, while Fenris is kept asleep by Sandman, yes? They will be safe here.

AND what did we just learn? Gods can pull ghosts out easily.

What are we about to do? Do the gods of Japan a huge favor.

We can beg them to help free Siren and Sandman and such once they are sorta in our debt.
>>
>>35271390
I don't really see the point, since it's beyond our power to actually free her.

>>35271487
If it was that easy, Sandman would never have been caught in the first place. Surt probably walks through the towers, making sure everything is in order.

Also the gods probably can't do anything.
>>

>Gods can pull ghosts out easily.
No, see >>35271254

The Gods contracted Central/Egon to allow their influence in/have him pull out the Djinn as part of a deal.
>>
>>35271515

We can ask our gods who will be in our debt to have Egon pull them out. Or hell, ask Egon ourselves.

We can make this right.

It's what we do.

You blast open Syren's cell, and the blonde ghost drops to the ground. She gasps for air, and curls up into the fetal position, sobbing and babbling in gaelic.

Yurei holds up a hand to you and she goes over to her.

It takes a bit but your friend eventually gets the woman to uncurl, and the pair talk for a bit.

Hmm, even ghosts can have surreal life sensations in death. Interesting.

I can imagine it's just how realistic they make their torments here.

You're oversimplifying. The reason Egon listened to the god was because it had a good reason.

Well...communicating...you think. They aren't 'talking' talking but you know that they're 'conversing' in some manner.

Either way, Syren gets up from the ground and walks over to you. She nods.

"I'll help you to get out." She says softly, in a voice that makes you want to forgive her for anything.

"Thank you." You say.

She nods. "I can try to make everyone think you're invisible with a spell, or I can come with you and keep everyone charmed." She rubs her arms. "The second one will be more effective...but..." She doesn't say the obvious part about how she doesn't want to leave the safety of a now controlled Fenrir and the Sandman.

Well, this is an easy choice. You think. No sense putting Syren at risk, and later you'll call central and get them to get her and these others into a better situati-

*Yosh!* A voice stabs through your mind. *Wow, this worked...uhh, Hey! Who's human mind is this? This one of the Ghostbusters that knows what they're doing?*

That's Sachiko's voice!

"Sachiko! It's Daisuke!" You say to open air.

*So, the answer is 'No.' Great.* She groans.

"What are you...How are you...?" You shake your head. "Never mind. Where are you?"

*Where do you think? I'm out in front of the big creepy mansion. Where are you? What are you doing in here anyway?* She asks.

"I came to rescue you." You say.

*Well, hate to upset you, but I rescued myself. With some help.* She says with a sigh. *Anyway, you should worry about Yurei. She and I got separated.*

"I've got her." You say.

His hands may have been tied.

Also, the status of the containment unit varies from series to series. One cartoon is lighthearted enough to rescue a ghost for a tv add, the other has gods dwelling over the weak, while the movies weren't meant to be more than just a comedy about exterminators of the paranormal kind, busting pests and tossing them in the bin.

And then. . .there's Japan.

Wait, maybe we should see if Kayako is here in Deep Freeze.

She wanted to repent, so the other ghosts would have put her here.
And the other powerful ghosts don't give a shit about Mae or her plans; in fact, some of them might consider Mae's plan to be encroaching on their turf.

"Yes." You say. "I have a cute what?"

*Never mind.* She snaps. *Look there's a big ass horde of ghosts just waiting at the big creepy tower. Are you anywhere near that?*

"Kind of." You say. You explain to her your discovery of the connected Towers, how you kind of alerted everyone to your presence, and how you discovered the Penitent Ghosts.

"So, now I'm trying to figure out a way to sneak back without getting ripped apart." You say.

*Alright.* Sachiko says. *Let me know if you need me to help.*

*Umm, you and I met face to face when I was having an attack thanks to a bee sting, and we met Kali in a tacky sushi place that was by Hachiko's statue.* She says. *I also went out dressed as an american vampire slayer with Kali once, and the day you came back on your 'walk of shame' you were wearing your blue shirt with th-*

"Okay, okay." You say. "How can you help, exactly?"

*Well, Kayako and I can maybe cheat a little.* She says.

"Wait, you and WHO?"

*Yeah, Kayako's with me. Her mom is SUCH a bitch, she tried to screw us both over. Wanted to rip Kayako into Nothingness, and then take over my body for herself. Short version, we won. Though if mommy catches up to us...we don't want that to happen. Anyway, I think Kayako can do her phase through the wall trick.*

"What?" You ask.

*We used that trick to escape the mansion.* Sachiko says. *I'm looking at the barriers on this tower...I think me and her can slip a person through. Yurei, as well, no problem.*

Right now, Syren is relatively safe since the Sandman doesn't want Fenris or the other ghosts to put him in ice again, and will defend her indirectly.

You know, for all this talk of the need for Siren being freed, we musn't forget that for centuries she helped her Sister perform many, many murders of young children and teenagers to give her beauty.

Did she do it as coerced or love for her sister? probably? Does she deserve what happens to her? Perhaps not, in the same way murderes might not deserve prison rape.

But she isn't innocent, that is for sure. Does sufficient punishment erase the guilt of a persons crimes? Of mass murder?

The treatment she endures here is unacceptable, but I hope we have more cause to free her from what to anyone else would be a life sentence for one murder, than she just having a pretty face and we feeling sorry for her.
>>

I'm not sure about freeing her really being the right thing, or if it's really within our power.

Others say it's a bad idea because we don't know how bad her crimes are.

"Are you interested?"

She bites her lip. "I'd think you'd be a trick of one of the Dominators. Danglin' hope like that in front of a person like tha'. It be like them to do that. Make a soul hope...and then smash it." She nods. "But, I'm a fool like my sister tells."

Yurei takes her hand and gives it a squeeze.

She shakes her head. "If you lay me false, I'll...I'll stop trying to pretend that I'm not like Them."

You nod.

She takes a deep breath, and then nods. "Alright, so...you want me to start singing' then?"

"You can't just make yourself invisible?" You ask.

"Nae. I can't do stuff to myself. Just others." She shrugs. "Always how its been."

You go up to the wall. You have some options here. You think you have the trick of it now. Plus with Yurei to help you can get to the Japan Tower easy enough, but there are people waiting for you. So maybe heading straight there isn't the best idea.

Maybe we can cause an alert at a different Tower, and get the mob at the Japan Tower to move elsewhere.

And before we go, tell the Sandman we're going to talk to Central about cleaning this situation up.
We are the wardens of this prison, and it's shameful and a disgrace how we've let the situation in here get out of our control.
>>
>>35272816
If we do cause a ruckus, maybe we should go alone, and not drag Syren there?
>>
>>35272846
We could act as the decoy.
Have Syren do that invisibility thing on us, we'll go and do some stuff a different Tower to give Syren and Yurei a chance to get to the Japan Tower and meet up with Sachiko and Kayako.
Then we'll make our way there ourselves.

But the question is, how do we create the distraction without the invisibility breaking?

Or...
Could we just ask the Sandman for his powder?
Yeah, he doesn't have to help us, but what's he got to lose?
We win, he gets to see the Dominators of this place be foiled. We get caught, he gets to see a Ghostbuster die.
It's an obvious manipulation tactic, but it's valid.

"Can it hurt to try?" You ask.

"If it doesn't work, they'll hear me and they'll know somethin's gone wrong with Fenrir." Syren says. "We'll be swarmed, and with no way out. Even the Sandman can't stand up to a giant mob of 'em. They know how to stop us."

"Sandman," You address the other figure.

"Do not speak to me, mortal." The Sandman says. "I wish only to not be imprisoned, and not tormented. What happened to you, or the girls is beyond my caring. I am already planning for when your thoughtlessness brings more misery upon us. Ask me for nothing, for that is the only thing I will give you." He turns his back to you. It looks like he's whispering to Fenrir.

Whatever he's doing, you aren't getting any help from him. At all.

Half the crowd spins around and attacks the other half!

You look at Syren. She shrugs. "I'd thought it'd be more effective than just them staring at nothin'."

You smile and nod at her and you push through the riot.

"Not that I'm complaining, but why aren't Surt, or Chronos, or Stay Puff here?" You ask.

"The Dominators don't leave their Palaces." Syren says. "They're afraid someone would take them, plus it kind of upsets some people who are plannin to blanket the world in Darkness to meet those who're plannin to use Fire. You can only destroy the world once, ye see. Surt don't want to have rangarok if he's only got ashes to rampage in." She smiles. "The Dominators hate each other, they only hate the Penitent more, and well...you of course."

"I do think you need to rethink your choice of allegiances, my dear." A voice says.

Syren lets out a small gasp and she ducks behind you.

You are feet away from the Tower entrance. You don't see Sachiko immediately.

You do see a revolting looking figure, wearing a trench coat and a floppy rain hat. His green face looking half-melted and a mouth full of rotted teeth.

"I'm sorry to say that I've never been one for a musical ear." The Grundel says. "I much prefer the sounds of weeping and screams." He tilts his head. "I don't recognize you. You must be part of their expansion. Well, allow me to introduce myself."

"The Grundel." You say.

His face bursts into a giant smile. "My reputation precedes me then! How marvelous."

The sounds of the brawl all around you seems to just be background noise, all you can hear is the...sounds...that emerge from the Grundel's squelching upon itself.

"Yurei, Syren." You say. "When I'm kicking this ghost's ass, make a break for it."

The Grundel waves a finger at you. "I'd rethink that, Ghostbuster." He grins. "I'm not here to fight. I'm here to, much like dear Syren, negotiate my release."

After all, just because he leaves the Containment Unit, doesn't mean he's free to roam.

On top of that, after what Kali mentioned about Imperial Japanese Army actions in China, I think we need to dig up some of the work of Unit 731.
It'll help us verify their research if we have a subject to test them on.

Don't forget, we're Japanese; the Geneva Convention is just a piece of paper, and the Grundel isn't a human, let alone Japanese. He's just a gaijin youkai.

You bark out a laugh. "You really think that I would ever even entertain the IDEA of letting something like YOU go?"

"Kylie's little friend wasn't the only one." He says.

"What?" You ask.

"Your group stopped me, and freed little Jack," The Grundel nods. "But that was HARDLY the first crop, and there are MANY more...trophies." He chuckles. "So many crying mothers, and yet in the back of their minds, a small voice saying 'Thank God, that little hellion is gone.' Ahh, years and years and YEARS of that." He shrugs.

"It may be too late for most, but some may still be alive, and you never know when lightning might strike the wrong tree again, and whomever is unleashed might not have my...restraint." He grins.

You see a hand wave at you from the side of the archway, it's Sachiko and she has someone with her.

"Syren, Yurei." You say, not breaking gaze from the Grundel. "Go."

"Yes, Syren." The Grundel says. "We want to make sure that your little cheat works."

The girls walk through the mob, unmolested.

"How many?" You ask.

"Oh, over my ENITRE career? Or just the ones that might still be alive, or could be revived?" He chuckles.

"Don't joke with me." You snarl.

"32 in America, 68 in Europe, 6 in China, and...if I remember right, 1 in Japan." He says with a hideous grin.

"What?" You ask.

"I like to think of myself as a bit of a traveller." He chuckles. "Come now, you think America is the ONLY place where badly behaved children run away? My feeding ground is human civilization."

Do you know what the Grundel DOES? Having him walking about is not something we need to deal with now! Hell, the Japan branch of the Ghostbusters is probably young enough to be affected, so have fun with Akira, Star, Sato, AND us doing nasty things and possibly turning into copies of him.
We don't have TIME to deal with him right now. Hell, we will NEVER have time to deal with him because watching him would be a full-time job since he's essentially a smooth-talking criminal sociopath.

He's going to need a lot more than 107 souls.

Alright, I guess I was too subtle.

And then we continue torturing him, in a separate containment ward, for the rest of eternity.

Akira's brother.
It's why Akira is such a sadist when it comes to the supernatural, why he channels all of the war crimes committed by Imperial Japan onto the ghosts we bust when he can, because he wants to hurt them because the supernatural took his brother.

Property damage? Fine, we're using nuclear reactors to shoot proton streams at the supernatural, shit's gonna break.

HURTING people? No, fuck you. That's not okay. That's NEVER okay, ESPECIALLY not when there are other options. BETTER options.

I hope Akira comes back in here and makes him wish he was never born.

If we had Unit 731's paranormal research they used on Chinese spirits, we might be able to.

>>35274154
>That's NEVER okay
Well, no, Daisuke is perfectly fine with getting his hands a little bloody, and having the greater good justify the means.

And that's how everyone around him sees him, because of what he's done, and he's already said he's got no regrets when someone asked him if it was worth it.
>>
>>35274154
I agree that we shouldn't do any wrong without cause, but

>HURTING people? No, fuck you. That's not okay. That's NEVER okay, ESPECIALLY not when there are other options. BETTER options.
It's only not okay when there are better options.

But Daisuke can and will hurt or kill people if it is what it takes for the greater good. We as a group have already accepted turning a blind eye to murder if it can help us achieve that ultimate victory against a worse evil.

If he had a choice to allow the deaths of the scandal happen again, instead of letting it slide by, he would.

We must always choose the better option whenever possible, but when it boils down to it Daisuke is willing to maek the hardest choices few ever could.
>>
>>35274195
Technically, we COULD let him outside, and then proceed to do horrible things to him until he tells us what we want to know. But firstly torture doesn't work, secondly, I'm not sure if an abomination like that can even be intimidated.
>>
>>35274219

>>
>>35274219
>>35274229
I'm not terribly happy with that direction in Daisuke's character. Can't change it, so whatever. What I can do, however, is advocate avoiding the easy path of low effort. When there is no better option, that is when I advocate for putting the boot in, anything less is pure laziness.
Were Daisuke directly responsible for all those people who killed themselves for the scandal? Yes, but you cannot say with absolute certainty that he knew the consequences would be that drastic before the fact.
Did we kill those vampires in cold blood? Yes, but the one we had at our mercy announced intent go on an even worse killing spree after coming for us. There was no better option, no better way there.
Did we turn a blind eye to the plant woman? We, as the player character, were not there and had no real way to affect that outcome, so I'm going to say no. Doing anything about it after the fact is just wasting time, especially since we put out an APB on her so that any relapse is spotted and dealt with.
>>
>>35274320
It's called accessory to 1st degree murder after the fact. And we are guilty of it for each and every one of it's multiple victims.

But we let the murderer go with a warning, because it gave us what we needed.

"Fuck. You." You say.

He rolls his eyes. "Always so dramatic." He sighs. "I suppose I'll be happy with watching the others rip you apart."

"Threats?" You say with a scoff.

He shrugs. "You learn to enjoy the simpler pleasures, and it'll be more pleasurable when the girls watch you die...and then after that when we REALLY get to work on you."

On the plus side, you can see Syren, smoke slightly rising from her body, lying on the grass that's OUTSIDE of the tower. Whatever Sachiko and Kayako did, it worked. However, it looks like it took a lot out of Syren.

On the negative side, the Grundel bellows out a low horrible sounding noise that a cross between a bass note and a belch. It's breaking Syren's spell.

The horde is now turning towards you.

You see the girls, Sachiko is holding up Kayako, and Yurei is holding up Syren.

"GO! NOW!" You shout and point.

The girls take off.

Funny that that type of excuse doesn't really fly in any legal court in the world concerning people who hide murders, who, typically, are usually treated as co-conspirators

There's a reason the term "accessory" exists.

>>35274391
When you consent to helping a criminal, you consent to the crime.

Probation usually implies you were tried and convicted and then sentenced by the justice system, all of which we not only bypassed we hid the evidence of the crime. Nobody, not the PCOC or the police will ever learn of those who were killed or their fate.

WE ARE NOT OFFICERS OF THE LAW.

We're people trying to do what's right, in the dark, with what humanity we have inside of us guiding us.

So here's our choice: kill something that has sworn to never take a human life again because WE ARE THE LAW, or let it go and save more lives because of that.

We made that choice. It's not fun making hard ones, is it? Stop focusing on what happened before and start focusing on what's happening now and what WILL be happening.

Let me ask you one thing then.

If it had been a human, not an alruane, offering the same, would we have treated him the same?

If a human cultist had been sacrificing those people, and cast a spell to no longer be able to harm anyone in exchange that we wouldn't bust him and simply watch over him, would that have been acceptable?

Why should the dead or supernatural get preferential treatment over the living?
>>
>>35274553
What makes you think we would have treated them any differently? I think under the same scenario and circumstances we still would have let them go if they were human.
>>

Oh Lord, this argument...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jrxl3Op4rsI
>>
>>35274553
Mortals play by mortal rules. Human cultist sacrifices people to his god, straight to the cops he goes.
But the alruane is NOT mortal, the cops would not be able to hold her plus there is no evidence of her actions. At least none they'd believe.
So, since we're the most organized guardians of the flickering candle that we laughably call 'civilization', the job of playing parole officer, arresting officer, judge, jury, and occasionally executioner rests squarely with us. And we, the majority, did not advocate putting on the black hood. Get over it.
>>
>>35274599
And you know what else? We would STILL be fucking right.

We ARE the Judge, Jury, and Executioner when it comes to ANYTHING supernatural. It doesn't fucking matter if they were a ghost a serial killer.

The law isn't able to save the goddamn world, we are. And no, hiding a murderer from the police is NOT consenting to murder.

I concur.

>>
>>35274630

Well, first the good news. The bomb did exactly what it was supposed to do. In that it blew up rather spectacularly.

The mob that wasn't completely wasted by the blast, (you have a bad feeling that the Grundel wasn't completely in that category.) was certainly knocked for a loop thanks to the concussive blast.

The bad news is that just hitting the ground was not enough for you. You got knocked around like an empty tin can, and it takes you a while for you to get back up.

You're a ways away from the Tower Entrance, and then you hear the REALLY bad news...or bad sound to be exact.

I'm just incredibly pissed at the bias towards someone we're planning to let live among us.

When a man kills another man, he could spend a lifetime trying to appeal or get a plea and not get it till the day he dies.

This isn't exactly a mobile suit. Maybe if we get Yurei's attention, she can double back and slime us?
>>
>We are the judge, jury, and executioner of ghosts, so stop trying to play Dredd
Even the side arguments in this quest manage to be hilarious.
>>
>>35274963
Dredd has a tendency of shooting everything that gets in his way. We only shoot SOME of the things that get in our way.
Big difference.
>>
>>35274971
This. Dredd has only one answer to what he does. We have several, one of which is JUDGE.
>>
>>35274986
Dredd actually sends people to the contain- I mean, probation cube.

Just thought it funny that someone trying to argue that we should become the law was responded in a way that sounded like we were the law of ghosts.

We are the law concerning ghosts. We're the only one who can be.
What we are not is the law concerning humans.

Well, Judgements are either incarceration or death. It fits a little too well for my tastes that we're judges, and thus the third option should always be considered.
>>
You book it. The suit jangling and heaving, and getting heavier by the second, you head getting dizzier and dizzier.

Thankfully, you see the tree, and you can see the four girls by it. They're waving at you and shouting.

In particularly, they're pointing at something behind you.

You've seen this movie though, you aren't exactly too keen on WHAT is behind you, just that you know that you don't want it to catch you. So you pour on as much speed as you can and you stagger towards the tree.

It's getting...really...really hard to move. The suit is REALLY heavy...and you feel very dizzy and...you're so close. You see little white spots in front of your eyes and everything is going slightly fuzzy and...

"Got you!" A voice with a brogue says as Syren grabs you and pulls you to the tree.

"He's here! Open it!" She yells.

"Not yet! Not yet! She's too close!" You hear Sachiko say. "Okay...I'm going to try something VERY stupid!"

You hear a croaking noise.

"Yeah, well, I'm with THEM now, more or less, so I'm in good company!" She snaps. "Now shut up and PRAY!"

The world goes dark.

Then you're awoken by a mouth blowing air into yours. You gag and choke and force the face away...oh God, it was Sato.

"Ugh!"

"Ugh? I saved your life! And I had an altoid before I started!" He says. "As the ancients say, Is the taste of minty life sweeter than any breathless darkness?"

You cough, and note that your mouth does taste curiously strong. "Or something like that." You gasp.

"Take it easy." Star says, pushing you down. "You haven't been breathing for too damn long...also you've pulled a muscle in both ankles."

"Which one?" You ask.

"All of them?" Star says. "Honestly, lets just go with 'be glad that you'll eventually be able to walk' and not ask any further questions about your physical state." She says.

>It fits a little too well for my tastes that we're judges
Well, admitting to being Jury, Judge, and Executioner all in one does have some implications to be said.
>>
>>35275071
"Okay so, it turns out that Sachiko had everything handled, while I pretty much bumbled around, almost blew myself up twice, and barely managed to save Yurei.

Also I freed a spirit that had a record of centuries of life-draining because she made me sad.

Did anyone expect something different?"
>>
>>35275071
"The others?" You ask.

"All fine. Sachiko's getting checked by Reika. Yurei's back in her Chyme. Kayako has crossed over, according to Sachiko." Star says.

"And Syren?" You ask.

"There was one of those little spark lights that emerged with you. It floated around for a bit and then winked out." She says. "We haven't detected anything else."

"That's good." You say, you notice that Star isn't smiling. "Why the serious face?"

"Well..." Star says. "You might not be too happy about what's about to happen next."

"Why?" You sit up and notice that there are about seven uniformed men in the room with you. Some are in police uniforms, some are in what look like doctor's scrubs. Also it looks like Akira is being restrained with a bag over his head.

"Well, we're all about to be arrested...and committed to an asylum." Star says. "But on the bright side, since you aren't dead, we avoided a murder charge!"

And that's when you get handcuffed.

Horrifying and humbling is an understatement, unless you understand just how far those two emotions can go/how powerful they can be.

I don't really like the sound of that, seems like it would create a time paradox due to our shitty rolls and general decision-making.

The upshot of that is all the powers we have at our disposal. Giving plea bargains and probation, jailing the most dangerous ghosts, and if need be ending the ones who are too dangerous to live.

And all of it is legal because the GB has jurisdiction over ghosts.
>>
Well, on the plus side, if these guys fuck around with our nurse friend, for being associated with us, we can call down the SERPENT.
>>
>>35275270
There's only like 5 of us trying to do an impossible job meant for way too many people on a daily basis.

But just because we're Judges doesn't mean we're Dredd.
>>
>>35275299
No. Nurse lady can call him down. Orochi's not doing a thing for us.
>>
>>35275270
The worst and best thing is we're probably the best-equipped to handle it. Anyone else would either have too much of a push from politics and the like to deal with it like we do.

She and the people of the zone get protection. We get jack shit. Still a win for us, though.

When there's something strange, in the neighborhood.

WHO IS THE LAW?

GHOSTBUSTERS!
>>

I phrased it wrong. No, we, personally, don't call down Orochi. All those associated with us though... people who MIGHT come to our defense, they're a different story.

Nobody is probably reading this, so I guess it's a good time to post and get it off my chest.

I don't advocate killing without reason, or even killing the Alruane, but I am and probably will be always mad at the alruane choice. Not for not busting her, but for taking the deal.

A family member was killed for a very dumb reason. Imagining that the ones who took them away might have been let off on probation, without telling AND that this happened to others, because someone thought they needed them, is extremely frustrating and triggers me something fierce.

I like this quest and ghostbusters too much to just quit, and I know we needed it to save everyone, but even if I wanted to stop being mad at the decision to I can't help it.
>>
>>35275711
Ultimately, we made a choice to go with the Kitsune over going to the Alruane after the date. If we look back even further, we might see choices we could have taken that could have helped us out a ton.

There are also a few choices that we made which were really great write-ins.

I generally read the quest and don't participate so much, and while I can understand wanting that perfect run, in the end we chose everything that lead up to it...and sometimes those easy choices lead to tough ones.
>>
>>35276326
I can understand that in a long run game played by various anonymous users, nothing is perfect and mistakes are made.

But I won't sit still if I hear comments like "they're already dead, there is no point in further action" or "We'll just keep a sharp eye on the suspect so he can't try anything again, but there's no point in going after him anymore since it won't bring back the dead"

I will not believe that taking a life, ripping away a piece of a family, taking someone from the lives they touched and life they would have had, is something that can just be dismissed and ignored as thought it never happened.

Maybe someone else far away could care less, but to a family the hole will always be there. A person forever plucked from family scrapbooks and photalbums, from memories and achievements that shoulder included them.

To tell me that there's no point in caring any-longer as the dead are already dead is indescribably insulting and demeaning.

Please keep going now so you can shut up about it later. You said you'd drop this a few threads ago, and you're still bringing it up. You've become an annoyance which is counteractive to gaining sympathy. Go for grief counseling. A support group is just a Google search away, and it'll do you better than throwing a fit on 4chan.
