Previously:
San Diego is wiped out by a tidal wave, a young man caught in the deluge as the city is erased by what some might consider the very wrath of god in a world with a sky of endless colors. Snatched from the brunt of the wave, the young man faces an inhuman creature of humanoid form that strikes out his eye to deliver onto him the gift of magic by means of the followers.

Praise be to Susej they say. These followers.

Selfish in his means of survival, a young man rallies with these people for his own safety as the government seeks to keep the truth of the world under wraps, that magic exists and that people like the followers are throwing it into chaos.

Sent on a mission to liberate people captured for conscription based on their awakening to magic, he journeys with others to meet with a woman planted for this very purpose, finding adversity on the way.

Having left a trail all too easy to follow, he's been captured and taken to the very place he'd been looking to gain access, though not exactly on his own terms...

Recently rescued by unknown allies, the young man takes on a new alias “Faust” to help him lay low.

You are Asher Faust, welcome to Over(human)Limit S2

>[] Put dick in spider-woman slave.

Good to have you back, Dran.
>>
Leaning slightly against Dorothy's sales counter, you peer down at little trinkets, rings, and necklaces stowed away beyond the glass. They're exotica and appear to be so varied that she could have something on display from damn near every country in the world. The counter itself doesn't have a register, just a small stack of parchment with spaces to fill in the details of the transaction as well as a spot to sign on the dotted line.
Dorothy rolls a lock of curly hair behind her ear, snow white skin, flawless save for a few wrinkles of age. With the way she carries herself, you'd reckon that she's older than she appears. Need to expect just about anything in this world now after all...

“Before I get into less savory topics, I did want to mention that the wand has been working famously. I get the feeling that it'll assist me for quite a while, even if it doesn't want to commit arson against trees.” You say, grimacing a bit at the filter as the words leave your mouth. It's just jarring because you don't even mean to say any of that shit. Oh well, she could've asked for worse.

“Oh?” She twists another lock of hair, curling it around a finger while another nail rests near her quill and inkwell, “That one did seem to have a certain penchant for hate and destruction, doesn't surprise me honestly if you use it to such a purpose. Doubtful though that it likes being controlled.”

“Indeed, it goes on a bit of a rampage here and there, but it's nothing unwanted. So, that said, i've heard of some intriguing conspiracy. Pertaining to the Knights Templar and the Illuminati?”

Dorothy's eyes smile at you, a slight part revealing her bone-white teeth, a touch crooked, “Oh? So Saphy got aroubd to telling you about them, hm?”
>>
>>35268810
You nod, peering closer at something beyond the glass. Astral sight doesn't reveal much, everything within is crawling with energy, that much is apparent, but it seems subdued and neutral. Maybe she separates good and bad karma? Can't risk cross-cotamination after all.

Dorothy taps the glass before a particular item, a burnished silver eagle, “That one's good for repelling the undead. The burns upon the silver were begotten from a youth that sought to resurrect through flames. Didn't quite work out, though he didn't die.” Dorothy laughs a little at that.
“Knights Templar are Witch Hunters. If you use magic but aren't one of them, then you're either a Buddhist monk or dead. At least, that's how it was when there were few of us.
They've run a good part of NATO's overwatch for a while.”

“Pardon, but weren't you just doing business with one?”

“I'm chaotic neutral,” Dorothy giggles heartily again, batting her eyelashes coyly, “My shop is a neutral territory. Solace and I enforce this. I may cut my friends, 'pprentices, and other associates deals now and then yet I keep customer privacy rather high. In fact, if you are concerned about someone recognizing you here, I can put a spell on you for your stay that'll hide your identity.” She shrugs, tipping herself over the counter, some of her necklaces slipping out of the bust of her dress.
“Saphy's a friend, but I take no sides. Remember that, yes?”

Another nod from you, and take a slight swallow, your eyes trail along the cut of her dress. She's rather... supple. “And the Illuminati?”

“Far more secretive. You'll find them behind government, big business and many upcoming celebrities with the right musical quality to bend the youth however they see fit.” Dorothy's eyes shift half-closed, a feline smile sliding across her face, “I personally prefer Solace's sweet purring to some rapper's crude song.”
>>
It's time
>>
>>35268829

It appears that's all she's really willing to share on the topic for now... The two of you walk around the shop for a bit, she points out interesting items here and there when she feels you might be interested. You can kind of understand her. Doesn't want any part in the whole war, taking advantage of the chaos to slowly contract all sides that come to her for help.

“Earlier you mentioned something about an apprentice?”

Dorothy seems almost caught off guard at the return to topic, “Why yes. The tradition needs to be passed down, usually from mother to daughter, sometimes son if we're not quite as blessed.”

“So what about other mages? You must know of some since before the Aurora, right? Families of witches, warlocks, and wizards?”

Dorothy smiles sarcastically as she crosses her arms in feigned defiance, “Three W's, huh?”

“Pardon, I didn't mean anything by it.”

She shakes her head, “I do have clients from such origin but they're highly secretive. Rarely do they want to have anything to do with anyone else. The Templars make them paranoid.
“It's liable to change if magic sticks around and they're in too great a number to subdue anymore, but as it is they still prefer to be kept out of the limelight.”

Your chat with Dorothy ends on a well note. She's not all that disappointed at your windowshopping, If anything she might've enjoyed the company.
As you leave, your eye lingers on Solace. A golden eye opens, glaring you down. You lift your hand up and-

“Don't.”

Okay.

You asked what exactly I wanted to do last thread when I asked if we still had time for any practice during the next three days. A lot of this isn't really that important and can be put off until the next proper training montage time, but the ward stuff I wanted to hit before the next mission.

>Anything else you wanted to weasel in there?
A few things.

>Actually try to use Ignorance a few times so that we know how it functions in the real, possibly start work on using the magic it eats to fuel our own, but mostly to just get more used to it.
>Work the kinks out of the fire circle ward and integrate it into Knight as a toggleable mode.
>Attempt to use summoning programs with wards to create an early warning and defense system that scans the astral around us while activated. Throws up wards to block small/weak spells and for the big ones it plays something line a siren in our head to let us know to Blink away
>Test the upper limits of Adept pyromancy (if we can find a place)
>(Hell)Fire pillar blender like what Asmadei almost killed us with Dont immediately try hellfire in the biggest size possible, try a small match-sized piece and if it's fucking horribly hard then just use regular flame for the pillar
>Lava generation via some combo of pyro/geo/alchemy
>Determine the maximum operational range of all of our summons
>Possibly the ice board
>Not optimistic about this one, but aero-perception is something I want eventually to make Alchemy stuff easier when we're making various gasses

I think we should throw in some training with Marcus if possible. We need to be his bro and he might have some ideas for pyromancy.
>>

We don't even yet know how much of a boost Adept rank gave us over Apprentice. I agree that training with Marcus is something that should happen sooner than later, but right now that would be almost purely a social links thing and not something for the purpose of actually improving our magic all that much.

Not everything, but some stuff.

Your magical training in the wood brings out more of your overall ability. You find that as you tain alchemical changes, Fire to water, water to earth, and so on, that it's easier to go in a cycle, air to fire to earth, to water, to air again.
But if you reverse earth into fire... and then stop the change midway, it becomes like lava, molten, loose, and changing. You can barely manipulate it as the burn builds, but you can at least make it.

It's strange though. You'd figure that with geokinesis you'd be able to manipulate lava too. While you can to an extent, it's terribly draining to control...

On your downtime you practice using the Ignorance ward, amassing a ball of mana that seeks out and gathers more ambient mana. At first, you notice that any other spells you attempt while keeping it formed are sucked into the mass. Yet as it gains size and mass you notice that it begins to wrestle control away from you.
The harder you hold it, the more it thrashes. In the astral it's like the birth of a star, or more likely some gestalt of mindless mana. You let it go and the assortment thrashes away, your latent spells jump away and randomly fire off in the surrounding area. Multipler fiend pops, earth tilting and moving random pockets of cold.

This spell could be dangerous with so little control. Then again, it could also be another way to amass insane effect...
>>
>>35269420
A second attempt with that in mind and you find that sending the wild mana in a given direction is possible, but it still doesn't care for precision, another shotgun of whatever spells went in.

Saph shows you a trick with Henry concerning something of that odd effect. As he knocks an arrow, a little pyromancy from you and the thing's trailing a line of fie into the distance, exploding on impact.

When you try the same thing on Echo with her awareness her fiery aura ignites and doubles in size for a brief time. Adding in the purposes of Fiend gives her something like an explosion effect on contact.
She lunges at you shortly after, tackling you to the ground in a laughing hug.

Saph says that the effect is strong, but doing it too much without a common idea can lead to soul corruption and the prevention of the vein using their abilities at will.

You let Emilia know of your intent as she flings droplets of blood. A spell from you and they become burning droplets that eviscerate and then detonate earth and tree. It's an insane improvement.
At some point you see Razor Blade Edge doing some shit with a butterknife, It's kind of interesting that he's able to cut trees with his aura sharpening a blade.

By your better judgement, you give him the murderknife. Fuck that thing.

This might seem weird but it would be a good idea to try our best to keep Gertrude from getting hurt. When she gets hurt she needs blood to regenerate and she could end up immolated very easily
>>
>>35270095
I'm pretty sure she stores the energy from the blood previously consumed which is represented by the red hourglass she has in the astral. If she gets hurt, she'll only need to kill more people if that thing's empty.
>>
>>35270095
>getting blood is somehow a problem
Snatching someone off the street isn't hard.
>>
Holy shit, guys! Gertrude is absolutely perfect for our human experimentation later on.
1. She is forced to do what we want.
2. She said she would do anything to survive, so she'll probably be willing to take any mods that make her stronger.
3. If we screw up, we feed her some blood and she heals.
>>
>>35269927
Does that mean he could have some pyromancy skill now? When Emilia was corrupted by pre-Fara's attack she started getting badass ice powers.
>>
>>35270276
I'd rather just get some hobos or use captured enemies. The only benefit of using Gertrude is that it would give us some sadistic jollies, but it's not really worth pissing off Odin. I'd prefer to not to end up on the shitlist of every single deity.
>>
>>35270330
Doubt it. There's a massive different between willingly merging your soul with a shade and getting hit with some fire magic.
>>
>>35269452
Does the wand avoid dead plant matter or is it only living flora that it refuses to hurt?
>>
>>35270341
There's probably a god of sadism out there with a diamond boner for us
>>
>>35270341
Ok, no forced experimentation... So, suppose we can convince her to let us experiment on her (somehow). We don't have to worry about her killing us, she can heal easily, we get a more powerful "ally", and she'll be more cooperative in the post-operation testing.
>>
>>35270407
Nah. Asher didn't even go full-sadism even when he was with the Followers.
>>
Still here Dran?
>>
>>35270505
Yeah. Trying to get the logistics down...
>>
>>35270430
That's not how it works when you deal with lawful dumb people. Even if they have an old fashioned morality, they still strict as hell.
>>
Anyone else wanna force Marcus to talk to donneth about eating people?
>>
>>35270430
There's also the problem of her already having modified biology. We want to apply this stuff to (physically) normal humans, not spider vampires. Yeah, it'd probably help somewhat, but I'm just not seeing any reason to use her as the main test subject. Or even really at all. She offers no massive benefit and she's still classed as an ally by the Norse rules, so she comes with drawbacks. She's also still Zeitgeist, so killing her if things go wrong will be a bigger mess than killing a captured enemy or hobo. She can heal, yeah, but by the time we get into human experiments we will (hopefully) have Xix with magic of her own. And Xix is going to probably have some sort of healing magic, and even if she doesn't then she still produces regen-inducing meds.

And, again, there is no benefit to using her over captured enemies or hobos. Gertrude has multiple layers of bullshit surrounding her that completely outweigh her iffy regen and ease of access, while we can go full-Mengele on PoWs and nobody will give a shit.
>>
>>35270548

>>
>>35270693

Yep. We would prefer that they live, and we're going to try to make them live because we're going to eventually be doing this stuff to ourself and we also want to live. Also because getting more test subjects is gonna be a pain in the ass.

If he has to die for us to learn, though, then oh well.

A cold wind chills the warm blood of people gathered around the edge of the grand stage set up in Millennium park. They wait for the models to walk, their various sponsors and the designers in waiting. Security guards hold checkpoints along the street filtering out the drunk from the sober. The sun slowly turns the sky into shades of muted evening, the light of the aurora casting a surreal effect on the entire event.

There's a magic in the air before it even begins.

You're perched up in a building from across the way, Gertrude carrying out people that had to be cleared out. She's been agreeable even if she isn't as great a threat right now as you may have expected her to be. More than anything, she seemed grateful that you even let her live.
You thumb a shortwave radio and speak into it, “Inferno-Spider is in position, we have visual on the stage.”
They set you up here so that you could long-cast if anything went wrong. You never had to nor should have been in the thick of things without good reason.

Marcus is mingling with the crowd, a good point for his direct intervention should it be necessary.

Saph said in the briefing that Emilia, Echo, Henry, Devon(Death Soul Edge), and Cassie would all be up on stage in a different version of the prototype suits. Tony's alone in another building with an alternate viewpoint. Aside from Cassie, those of Benevolence are either watching or waiting at the getaway point, a newly installed door on the third floor of a building down the way. Transports directly to the hideout.
>>
>>35270987
>Inferno-Spider
Did they let the Edgelord chose the codenames?
>>
>>35270987

So far as you know, there's going to be a fireproof suit that keeps the wearer at a regulated temperature of around sixty-five degrees. Devon's wearing that one.
Another that binds itself to and assists the natural agility and strength of the wearer, apparently the last out of testing, could be side effects but from what Saph said it allows the user to match most Bones and Veins in terms of speed. Could be an interesting one to get, Echo's wearing that one.
Then there's a suit that's armored with an unknown material, it's hard or soft depending on what it needs to be. Emilia's wearing that one.
One that fractures and reassembles light to make the wearer appear invisible. Henry's got that one.
Then finally, there's one that shifts its appearance into any other clothing barring concerns of weight. Cassie's got that one.

Gertrude slugs another body under a desk and rests on the wall near you, a bored sigh escaping her lips, “Well then, guess we just watch and wait then?”

“Pretty much.”

>You've got a pair of binoculars and the wand on you. A makeshift mask not nearly as fancy as Marcus or Saph's that actually has suprisingly good peripheral and a built on shortwave.

I say 1 overlimit point
>>
>Fireproof
Would be pretty neat if we need to burn EVERYTHING around us and can't get away. Would also let us make Knight fire armour far thicker. Right now it's a hollow shell about a meter in radius. It'd be way tougher if it was solid.
>Bulletproof
I really like this one. Damn near got shot in that recent clone fight and I don't want to be forced behind walls for fear of the smallest little dinger.
>Agility+Strength
I like this one. Has nice alchemy potential, especially for homunculus shells later on. Not really as useful since we can go fast without it.
>Invisibility
Cool against mundanes, worthless against overs with astral sight. Might be cool if we can reverse engineer it with alchemy and incorporate the material into the biology of some homonculi.
>Dress-up
Completely shit.

Anyway, it's either fireproof, bulletproof. Agility has potential, but we can Blink fast or surf ice/fire and even with the suit we don't want to get into melee fights with Bones/Veins since they'll have close-range offensive magic and some degree of healing/armour while we have AoE spells that will catch us in the blast and no defensive/(viable)healing.
>>
>>35271682
I agree.
>>
>>35271682
>>Dress-up
>Completely shit.
For us. I'm sure that it'll be really cool for the cloak and dagger espionage overs who work for Saph/Eloc.
>>
>>35271682
We should work on alchemy.
Get our shit together and experiment on all the suits. try and incorperate them together. and add it into our summon.
A summon that can transform/be bulletproff/ fire proof/ invisible. Would be boss.
>>
>>35271786
Once we start fucking with a summon with Alchemy to make it real, I'm pretty sure it's a homunculus at that point and not a summon. Or maybe it's technically both. Dunno. We need to find out if contracts apply to alchemized summons.

Also,
>not wanting to alchemy those things directly into Asher's body
Or I guess we could make a remote controlled / wearable suit that has those abilities.
>>

Just saw this thread. Catching up now but I wanted to post an idea I had about Fiend. We should modify it so it specifically fires razor sharp blades or needles of flame instead of the napalm it's firing now.
>>
>>35271978
Why?
>>
>>35271978
We already have something like that. Hound causes Fiend to explode into flaming jaws.
>>
>>35271978
The whole point of fiend is to blast things away.
>>
>>35272018
What about Fiend Hammer?

Dear fuck, that even sounds menacing.

A fiend blast that uses solid fire to slam everything in a downward motion.
>>
Dran, if we transform something via alchemy, can a bone eat its magic to make it turn back into its original form?
>>
>>35272048
No, they can't. That's one of the major reasons that people hopped onto Alchemy as something they liked.
>>
>>35272048
Alchemy is a flash of magic that permanently changes the mundane structure of matter (or energy). Once it has been changed, there's no magic in it to eat.
>>
>>35272060
>>35272086

Sweet. So, if we can use Pit on a bone, and then use Alchemy to turn the earth into lava...
>>
>>35272048
Nope. If we turn a rock into water drinking the magic from the water, or just drinking the water itself, will not make it a rock again.
>>
>>35272109
They can eat the magic as it's occurring if we use it right next to them to prevent the change from happening in the first place, so that wouldn't work.

We could make a lava moat and laugh at them from the other side when they can't get rid of it, but we couldn't make one under them unless we could blast enough magic to overwhelm them and at that point any spell will get them.
>>
>>35272136
Or we just make the change fast enough that they can't eat it in time.
>>
>>35272109
They'd probably eat the Pit spell and lava transmutations before they actually happened, but if they didn't then yeah, they'd be pretty fucked since they couldn't get rid of the lava.

Kneeling at the window you say, “So Legna, anything that could go wrong here?” as you glance around through the scope, you see the models from other companies strutting down the runway. Thin, beautiful, and dolled up to the point of confidence. It's not long before you're increasing magnification to study them. Hell, you could probably blink right down there if you wanted.

Legna manifests at your side, blade drawn, a gallant and imposing spectre. “I feel a disturbance. This is the sort of calm before a great battle... This event will end in flames.”

“Quite the seer, hm?” Gertrude grins with dangerous white fangs, “Do you think it can be stopped?”

“Why stop it?” Legna speaks cool and soft, “Test your mettle and temper your souls. It will be glorious.”

“Morgan, any surprises in store for us?” You say aloud, and feel neither hide nor hair of the fae for a moment. Finally, she materializes at the back of the room, Legna turning her gaze on the fae, a stern glare as that steel sword of her glimmers.

“Easy. I'm being good tonight. The she-bitch is right though, there's a heavy tension in the air if you can't tell. Tonight is going to be interesting.”

You peer out Anna Swan as she struts down the way in something befitting her name. An absolutely loud design of white feathers that billow asymmetrically from one collar before wrapping around her back and flaring out into one legging while leaving the entirety of the other bare to the world. It's risque and completely unorthodox for this kind of weather.
Sis might have said something like that at least... She liked this kind of thing.

“We're good and in the clear for now. Let's just wait until something happens. We're breaking away with the suits at the end of the show, so there's not really much need to do anything until something- when something happens.”
>>
>>35272162
That's not going to work on someone competent. Maybe it'll work once if we're lucky. I'd rather do a transmutation that can fuck them up without having to be done right on top of them.
>>
>>35272194
Fair point
>>
>>35272204
You pass the time ogling the models. After some less interesting ones come on, you pass the binoculars over to Gertrude and find a pen from one of the desks. Call it paranoia, but you don't feel very comfortable like this. Breaking it open, you let it out in a circle along the carpet. Examining the work you set it to conceal yours and Gertrude's presence.
Saph taught you how to do it. It's flimsy, but it provides some form of astral cover. Even if it does take a bit of focus and doesn't permit the use of spells. It's good enough for the purpose...

>>35272321
I want to make a phylactery. Lich mode up in this bitch, it should be pretty possible. We can leave our phylactery in our alchemy moon base, or even with Dorothy if we could convince her.

Dran, If we get offed after we transfer our soul to a customized homunculous body, would we regen in that form at our phylactery, or would we regen as our normal self? For that matter, if we find a way to regen after death, would regening like that fix our eye? What if...

Eh I'll post it to your ask.fm
>>
>>35272487
Lotsa people died. Shellshock of the disaster.
>>
>>35272487
We could just find a way to control a body without having our soul in it. Then we could just throw our soul in a box and create a remote controlled body. That sounds dangerously close to crossing the lines between types but hey it's alchemy.
>>
>>35272487
I think phylacteries are more of a Vein thing. I'm sure we can still find a way to cheat death, I just don't think it will be that.
>>
>>35272547
Well instead of actually putting our soul into the damn thing, we could just set up some kind of system where our death sends out some kind of astral ping that an alchemy machine we've constructed at a remote location could pick up.

It could then replicate our body for us, possibly using some kind of cloning vat? I don't think we could possibly get it to the stage where it could replicate our mind remotely like that though, so maybe we could just have it scan our mind while we're there, so that dying would be like reloading a save in a video game.

I think I was born to be a mad magiscientist.
>>
>>35272634
We could create a Blink doppelganger and put it in a circle to prevent it from murdering us, then link the circle to our main body's life so that it breaks when we die. If we die, our soul goes back into the doppelganger.

We'd have to update the doppelganger daily to keep the mind current or else it'd be like getting amnesia every death, and we couldn't Blink while it's set up, but it'd work.
>>
>>35272634
We would have to differentiate between blink and true death. Speaking of which, blink would be a very good starting point for a mechanism that would reconstruct us.
>>
>>35272546
One of the things we should study as an alchemist is why the fuck there are 3 distinct types anyway. Maybe one day bridge the gap and become the magical ubermensch, he who is over(overhuman)limit.

>>35272663
Sounds good to me.

I'm guessing this is more for NPCs. The only good side I see to Asher getting the extra over-type is the ability to eat spells as a bone. Switching over to Astral vision, you see the crowd of people as an entirely too large blob of awareness. The whole set that everyone's focused on is recreated in so much detail that you'd almost say that it was a higher definition than the mundane realm.
The crowd itself though is barely recognizable and the further you get away from the stage, the more the awareness shrinks until it dips off into darkness with the occasional sweep of Tony's view of the road.

You switch back to mundane sight and rub your eye. This is a pain in the ass. You expected at first to find something quick.

You keep it up until Revol's ready to come up. Your dutiful nature erodes and you watch their models strut down the way.

It starts off with a grand lightshow akin to a rainbow shifting as though to mimic the morning aurora. Then the models march down the runway in skimpy, completely unorthodox clothing. What's crazy is the fucking confidence they have even with the chill and how they're pretty much damn naked.

Sailor suits with suspenders, glamorous white gowns with cuts that drop down to the belly button, and a bunch of other outright drop dead sexy and glamorous garb.

Alright, after this one is...

Eloc steps up onto the stage, his hair elegantly disheveled and a black suit with white cuffs, orderly and professional. This is it. The finale to the fashion week.

First up is the Fire-proof suit. Eloc seems to go on about its applications. The suit itself looks pretty light overall and most notably a blinding metallic white. Two people in the suits step up, One Male version, one female. Devon's in the male of course. They walk up like some kind of shimmering, radiant knights, up and down the runways as Eloc goes on.
As they turn about for a second walk, machines move from under the stage, spewing out a wall of blue flames.
They walk through unphased, though Devon shows hesitation while the model just carries on like it's none of her damn business. As they come back through, the burners stop and the next set come out. This time, and this is ridiculous, Giant spinning machine blades appear from a split in the stage as well as the sides. The crowd gasps in shock as they whir into a blur of motion too fast for the eye to see. With a running start from behind the stage, the models, with Echo in the female attire sprint through, zipping between the flashing blades as they react at surreal, supernatural speed.

When they make it to the other side of the high speed gauntlet, the face-plates move out of the way and they take a deep breath of cold air, smiling and giving everyone a wave. The crowd goes absolutely wild.
To be honest, that was fucking impressive. You'd never even seen Echo move that fast before... And she moves fast.

Next up are Emilia and some other guy in the bullet proof armor. This one's curious because it just looks like a black suit... Wonder how they're going to demonstrate this one?

They walk up and down the runway, strutting their stuff, you take note of the way the female suit grips Emilia firmly, accentuating her curves. When they get back, Eloc pulls out a revolver, personally shoots a plate at the end of the stage, shattering the clay into a thousand pieces that glitter at the end. Of the run.

After that he places the gun right against Emilia's bust. For a moment, you feel protective, wanting to intervene. The gun goes off and Eloc pulls it away, the bullet falling against the runway and Emilia looking honestly surprised as she looks back. It's performed on the man too. And each is done again from the front as he explains some of the properties and likely what it'll be used for.

Next comes the Invisible suit. No one steps out from backstage... A piece of the ceramic from earlier cracks and two people appear at the end in shimmering lustrous suits with no clear case of technology about it. They vanish again and reappear next to Eloc again as he explains the suits.

Finally, Cassie comes out with another marn, they strut out with their clothes changing before the crowd's eyes. An ultimate garment that becomes a suit, a police uniform, a halter dress and tux, shorts and a t-shirt. During one of the transitions, the attire stops on some kind of BDSM gear for the both of them. Cassie looks down in disbelief, her jaw dropped as she tries to cover herself.
>>
>>35273892
We need one of the suits
>>
>>35273892

Her male counterpart however, turns around in nothing but a leather thong and harness, completely unperturbed by the event.
There's a large whooping from the crowd as Eloc rides the hype high on all the designs as they get into something of a lineup in order of appearance.

As he's wrapping everything up, this is the moment that your guys are supposed to incapacitate the models and run off with everything.

Emilia makes the first move, a swift stab to her counterpart with a stungun, he convulses and drops, the others swiftly do the same as Eloc spins around, as though he doesn't understand what's going on. He's playing his part nicely.

Suddenly, you feel a strange surge of magic and Legna falling over you with her shield as he wall of your window detonates with shocking force, knocking Gertrude back across the office room. Legna's shield protects you as you try to get a bead on what the fuck just happened.
“Blackhawk, do you copy?! What the fuck is going on?!”

The shortrange buzzes with static fuzz, communications lost. Flying blind.

With a wave, you flush the dust and debris out of the way. (Faust, there's an enemy. The battle begins.)

“Thank you captain hindsight, where are they?” Just as you finish talking, another series of blasts pepper your footing like a dozen firecrackers going off, you feel yourself begin to fall until Legna grabs you and flings you back to safety, standing upon air with her shield raised.
(I cannot see them, the spells are happening instantly.)

Start a Blink to a new position, then step out so that they blast us and we can attempt to get a sense of where they're shooting from before the Blink completes. Make sure we tell Legna what we're about to do.

I really hope the end of this fight doesn't turn into a squabble over the body between Legna and Donneth. That's gonna be a pain.

Just wanted to point out, since it occurred to me and I hadn't noticed it mentioned at any point.

We're an Alchemist.

More explosions tear about drywall and glass, sending the shrapnel everywhere to keep you pinned down behind Legna's shield and cloak.
“They are relentless” she growls, “We should move to better ground. We cannot engage them like this.”

You understand the situation as far as you can see it. They're making things expolode to obscure your vision. Why? Because they've got you pegged as a nerve before a shot fired.
“Cover me!” You shout as you run to the back for Gertrude. You give her a once over, looks like shr's got a bit of shrapnel stuck in her, “You good to move, we've got company.”

“Says you,” She groans, coughing and getting up. Another series of minor detonations burst at the window. They can't see you either now. They don't give a shit about killing you it looks like.

Gertrude gets up, invoking a bit to shrug off some of her injury, “What's going on?”

“Attack, we need to move, I'm going to go to another building, you evac whatever way you can, alright?”

Gertrude gives you a nod as you make a run for it. Dipping into another office, the glass and drywall immediately detonates in another flurry of explosions, glass cascading through the room. Legna keeps her shield up steadfast. You run to another, and another with the same thing happening. All you need is a bead on another building and-

There's a delay in the detonations, a series explode from the other side. You see a the roof of another building and blink yourself there, leaving a fiend in your wake as though jumping through a portal of flame.

Legna rushes to your side, the detonations keep erupting along the building with others on the ground.

“Donneth, kill that caster!” You command the Wendigo with a clenched fist and he manifests, a laerge bolt of energy notched and ready. It's fired and then he vanishes again to seek out the target.
The bolt detonates in midair, but you've got other shit to worry about.
>>
>>35274619
>You command the Wendigo with a clenched fist and he manifests, a laerge bolt of energy notched and ready
What? Donneth uses energy bows now?
>>
>>35274619

A stray gust pushes at you from this high up and you just about fall if not for Legna giving you a push the opposite way, “Careful.” She says, pointing her sword down at the ground.

Marcus is up on stage fighting three people at once that each utilize disturbing hand speed. His fists are on fire as he constantly seems to go for a killing motion only to be parried an punished by the excellent offense offered. What's strange is that you don't recognize their garb. They look oriental. A peer through the astral and you see a Crane and a Dragon wrapped around the two of them, guiding their movements with practiced precision and skill.

Where the hell did these people come from?

There's a large truck at the end of the road wheeling on in, thrashing as the Police scramble to get their cars out of the way. As it drives by, black figures slip out of the back before the great white titans that are those bigger mechs drop out... They look different than before.

“DOWN!” Legna shouts as more explosions pound against her shield, “It won't take much more of this, I need assistance!”

You feel the roof, stone all around and water running through the building. This explosion harassment is getting real old real fast...

With a cold breath you tap into your magic and empower Legna further, the burn driving knives through your body as she shines, her shield mending itself.

“Such power will not be wasted.” She says just as explosions crackle from below, the foundation coming down from under your feet, causing you to fall wildly. You stare at a point at the enemy's building.

“Legna! Go!” You shout as you lock on and initiate blink. You fall the rest of the way, smashing your head into the pavement before your consciousness returns and you're standing in a parking garafe with Donneth howling as explosions erupt from all around as hundred of thousands of dollars in property damage.
You push back the need to empty the contents of your stomach from the experience and dodge behind a pillar as Legna rushes to your side in the astral.

(Summoner, they!) The Wyld Wendigo howls, his communication broken by a sudden astral explosion.

You dip around the corner, looking hard for your target. You see a hair of them and immediately swing out with the black wand, a series of Fiends erupting across the scrapped cars, doing the community a service for slagging them further.

There's a moment of silence without movement. No response from Donneth... Then there's too much for someone to hide behind.

Y'know, Faust said that both objects and places can ascend. The wand is kinda like a place crammed into an object.

Is it possible that the wand ascends? I'd find it hilarious if the quest ended with Asher dead in a ditch and his wand turning into a god of fire and rage.
>>
>>35274939

You steady yourself, violence and bloodshed scream in from the outside, disturbing the silence of your little battle. That detonator is too dangerous to just let go. Who knows if they're dead or alive?
You touch the wand and bring it up, channeling your power through the tool as you begin an incantation.

“O Great burned wood,
With raging flames you spare the weed.
O Great Tree of Poplar wood,
Hear my call.

For in the gallery's night,
I demand your might.

with wand of ashen death inflamed,
let this fucker be horribly pained,

With dead and burned revenge as my wing
For destruction and death is what we will bring,
I AM THE FIEND”

You hear something in another language as you finish, but you let your spell fly, high pressure makes the air heavy and the burn sinks into your body, forcing you to grit your teeth against the pain. So long as it gets rid of them, right?

The bursts of black and red flame manifest, littering the cars with your own versions of explosions, turning the place into a burning pile if molten metal.
Yet the burn continues as the explosions carry on, the flame building, monsterous fangs rapidly coming into existence with a head, eyes, and a robust body of broiling flame trailing after. Your eye goes wide as you witness the thing manifest of its own accord, molten glass and metal rolling into its body as it dives forward, thrashing, spewing flame and turning the parking lot into an absolute hell-hole.
>>
>The realization that Daedalus is doing what we want to be doing except he's using robot stuff instead of summoning+alchemy
>>
>>35275562
Explosions erupt at the thing's body, and another series as you start to run away with Legna's bidding as the beast goes out of control, howling flame at its first intended target as it chases after.

You jump over the edge carelessly for a momenr, desperate to be away from the flames as you do a quick blink down to the ground, a sigh as you look back at the parking garage that's rapidly heating to the point of melting, your hand still on the wand, the burn continuing some until it apparently casts off.

You see a burning eye leer out of the place at you, and you can only wonder what theat mass of burning hate is as you promptly start to run the fuck away.
It's wild, no contract, you aren't even sure if it's an actual summon. For all you know it could be emotion incarnate.

Black figures slide in front of you, one to the back. Just as you start to think, they blast you with their sonic, returning you to a world without sound as you crumble to the concrete in agony...

>Also with alchemy touch magic is fucking amazing
Touch magic doesn't suddenly make alchemy amazing, it's great without running up to them and trying to touch them.
>>
>>35275777
Bulletproof.
Usually I'd be all over the speed one, and if it has increased perception as well, (which It would need for them to tell when to sanic through the blades) I still like it, but Asher can already get away from shit, he needs a defense against things that catch him by surprise (thoughtform sentries soon)
>>
>>35275921
>not replacing replacing the air in someone's body with laughing gas
>not making their brain tear itself apart with water magic
And I said punches because running up and beat hugging them is stupid. Doing it slowly while using Sanic speed to dodge should be easy
>>
>>35275777
I wanted the Agility suit, but the people calling to rush in an try to kung-fu death touch people makes me not want to go anywhere near it.
>>
>>35275777
Really we need to see their upper limits before anything else. Can the fire one let you take a dip in lava? Can the bullet one get hit by an 45mm and still be just fine? Can the speed one time travel?
Shit we need to know before anything
>>
>>35275957
>Not replacing the air in the general area with laughing gas
>Not just making an explosion right next to their head
also
>Not realizing that touch magic can be directly fought against by anyone, even mundane, which cranks the burn up way higher than similar spells not applied directly to a person
Running up to them is retarded. If you wanted to use the suit to stay mobile and out of melee confrontations, then that'd be awesome. Instead you want to rush at people and get into retarded engagements, risking unnecessary harm, because you have some hardon for the worst way to kill people in the setting.
>>
>>35275991
>implying staying out of melee is an option at this point
>>
So uh the bullet proof one is just a suit right? What about our head? I'm worried about our head. Like seriously we are fighting the super gubmnt, they can probably aim better than a star trooper
>>
>>35276059
>star trooper
You fucked up
>>
>>35276025
>implying that enemies trying to exploit our weakness in close range means we should rush in at close range
No, and just because we might get a suit that enhances agility, that doesn't mean it's suddenly not a weakness. The suit puts the wearer on par with the average Bone/Vein in terms of movement, yes. That doesn't mean shit when we're going to be fighting Bones, Veins, mutants, and robots that are above average.

>If we try to touch cast on a Bone, it won't work at all as they eat the magic and then tear our head off
>If we try to touch cast on a Nerve, they can touch cast right back at us
>If we try to touch cast on a Vein, it could go ok-ish I guess if they're not a melee build or something that lets their aura rip things apart at close range like Petre was. Totally negates the Nerve's advantage over a Vein being their superior casting range.
>If they're a mundane, why the fuck are we touch casting them instead of just using a Fiend that they can't do shit about?

Touch magic is not something you base your combat style on. It's a very niche thing that is only used by healers, overs who modify people, or for surprise attacks against people who have no clue what the hell is going on. You want to throw out our classes main advantage and attempt to replace it with a shitty niche feature to pretend to be one of the other classes.

>>35276059
All the suits cover the head.
>>
>>35276093
Oh good, I was worried we were gonna pick it, get cocky, and have a sniper splatter our brains across the wall
>>
>>35275777
The cloak one could be fucking amazing if we figure out a way to hide our spells, maybe a full on white out tier blizzard from donneth, maybe just fog. Something.
>>
Anyone else noticing that asher keeps commenting on how "real" everything is through astral sight? Is he just getting used to astral sight or is he going batshit on us?
>>
>>35276093
>surprise attacks against people who have no clue what the hell is going on
Clarification: I don't mean running up behind some hostile over out in the field and touching him, I meant for things like if we're in a place full of people and we want to stealthily kill a guy, so we walk up to him and shake his hand and set up his heart so that it pops in a few minutes. Even then, I don't see why we'd do it when we could have Morgan curse bad-luck him super hard.
>>
>>35276173
You do realize the guy would almost certainly notice us rigging his heart to pop right?
>>
>>35276227
If he wasn't a mage, he'd probably just think he's having heartburn or something. If he was a mage, or knew about mages, then yeah. He'd probably notice.

Like I said, it's a very, very niche facet of Nerve magic.
>>
>>35276235
I kinda wanna figure out a viable use for combat touch magic, besides hurr durr kungfu, if the enemy is distracted it might work. Stealthy touch magic user who also uses summons, or just allies, to distract his enemies while he touch of deaths them? I doubt it would work but it would be cool to see
>>
>>35276093
Not that guy but hasn't Dran outright stated that asher is dangerous to touch? He stated that the only problem is Asher is made of glass. So the bullet proof one would actually make melee not entirely retarded. Still retarded though.
>>
>>35276314
Yes, touching a Nerve is dangerous to everything that isn't a Bone. Being anywhere within the sight range of a Nerve is dangerous. Damn near everything in this setting is dangerous to touch.

Asher being dangerous to touch =/= touch is the most deadly or effective thing he can do.
Asher being dangerous to touch =/= the non-touch applications of his power are not also dangerous and effective.
>>
>>35276352
I'm still trying to find the most efficient way to deal with a bone. I'm thinking maybe traps and shit that go off too fast for them to eat. Or maybe a trap that trigger when the magic bait is eaten. Idk man direct confrontation with bones is scary
>>
>>35276430
It's different for every Bone. They all have different physiology, capabilities, and magic consuming ranges. Some can only eat in touch range, most can eat within some spherical radius around them, a rare few can consume any magic within sight. Some are fast, some are tough, some are intangible, some transform, some are basically inanimate objects, some regenerate.

ClF3 would work great for Belila, Marcus would laugh at it.
>>
>>35276457
What we need is to figure out how to make a black hole. I'd like to see a bone get spaghettified
>>
>>35276277
I can't think of one.
Close range combat could potentially work after we pick up some crazy alchemy modifications and homunculus shells and enchanted items, but touch casting is just so fucking stupid.
>>
>>35276526
Honestly the best thing to do would be to use pseudo touch magic, just coat yourself in the spell, or blast the spell into them at very close range
>>
>>35276544
That offers no benefit at all and is detrimental to the safety of the Nerve while also forcing the spell to be weaker. Even if you were just fighting training dummies, it would be putting the Nerve at risk of injury for no reason.

You keep thinking like Vein when it comes to fighting and Asher is not a Vein. Even if he gets artificially enhanced physical abilities, he is not a Vein and you can't use his magic like he is one.
>>
I'm realizing that this fight with splodey man is another situation where those Wisps that we never made would have come in handy.
>>
>>35276573
I'm saying that would be the bst touch magic. Touch magic is garbage. I never wanna be within a mile of another over in this quest at all, but that's not really an option
>>
>>35276625
Even if we are forced to be closer to enemies than we want to be, that doesn't mean we have to fall back on garbage touch magic. If enemies are closer than we like, we Blink away. If we pick the Agility suit, then we also run away. While we're trying to put distance between them and us, we blast them.

That's a hell of a lot better than charging them and attempting to coat ourself in fire and punch them with it.
>>
>>35276652
I agree though? I will never vote for anything melee. People made of glass shouldn't fight up close and personas
>>
>>35276666
Oh. It sounded like you were saying "we're gonna be forced into suboptimal engagement ranges anyway, so we may as well light ourself on fire and try to punch people."
>>
>>35276674
I'm stupid, not suicidally retarded
>>
>>35276666
>People made of glass shouldn't fight up close and personas
Even if we manage to mod Asher to the point that he's not glass, nerve magic really isn't good at all for close range. That's not to say that close range would never ever ever happen, if we get good enough alchemic augments we could do things like kill enemy nerves by activating Ignorance and then rushing them. Still wouldn't want to use touch magic, but we could totally get in close and shoot them in the face or hack at em with a machete.
Some veins would be able to be engaged with similar tactics, but the ones like Edgelord would actually really be a problem since Ignorance couldn't stop his soul blade from cutting into us. Hexing veins like Father Assrape would also be a problem at close range. Both of them we'd still want to bombard at range.
There'd be a rare breed of bone that would actually be better to engage at close range if we get high-tier augments. They'd only have med-moderate physical abilities themselves while also being able to eat magic very quickly and at long ranges. I'd rather just run away from them completely, but if forced to fight then close could be better depending on what we can do.
Touch magic is still retarded though.
I know you more or less agree with me, I'm just typing shit at this point.
>>
You know who I miss? Noatok. I really miss the big fuck-your-robots indian.
>>
Something else that might be cool for close range tactics would be to activate a Blink, then rush in using the agility suit (or augments) and try to get a hit in with a magic sword or something. Even if we don't hit em, the doppelganger will Fiend us and hopefully they'll take some damage from the blast.
>>
>>35276977
>Activate Blink
>Activate Ignorance
>Charge enemy with magic sword
>Doppelganger keeps trying to Fiend us, it's getting caught in our Ignorance ward
>We get a hit or two in with the sword, but nothing really that great
>They manage to snap our spine in half
>Ignorance turns off
>Massive Fiend detonation from all the stored blasts
>Respawn at the doppelganger
If that works it would be so fucking awesome.
>>
>>35277155
That sounds fucking awesome
>>
>>35277155
Second. It's exactly the kind of dickass move Asher would pull.
>>
>>35277155
Need someone save that tactic
>>
I think people are underestimating the invisibility suit. With some tuning on the stealth ward, enemies wouldn't be able to see us in the astral or the real.
>>
Could we summon something symbiotic to enhance Asher? Like nanites or anything that won't screw us over really.

>If we get knocked out here, without any wards, and without Emilia(Gaia), then Lucifer will tear us apart.
>>
>>35278541
That was more or less the plan with Alchemy. Use Summoning to make new parts, then use Alchemy to graft them to his body. We've just been waiting for it to hit Adept because that's when we can start experimenting in that area.
>>
>>35278552
M-maybe Odin will have our back??
>LOKI!!
>>
>>35278569
I think I'd rather just try really really hard to not get knocked unconscious.
