Get ‘er!” The screams of air pirates flying on the tail of your Bristol Balmoral were getting grating. Their Fairchild Brigands buzzed your plane, shaking the interior.“What the hell is going on!?” yells Sumire. All of your passengers have been awakened. Darn, you were hoping that they would somehow stay asleep for this. But you suppose can deal with it.“Pirates!” you say quickly.“Here!?” Rana quickly puts on her glasses on, surprised as she looks out the tail turret window. “But the Canadians are so nice!” She presses her face against the window. “Oh I know those markings! It’s Robert’s Raiders! He’s not so nice.”Anneliese and Sumire quickly scoot up behind you, looking over your shoulders. “Alright! What’s the plan then, Libby? We gonna outrun these idiots or what?”“We’re in a Balmoral Gunship,” you say. “This thing moves as fast as my grandmother.”“So?”“She’s dead.”Sumire rolls her eyes. “So we gotta fight then. What do we have for weapons?”You point to the front. “Frontal turret, two 20mm cannons. Tail turret, another two 20mm. And we got two more wing mounted 20s. We’re packing a lot of heat which is why we’re so slow. This is an old plane after all.”Anneliese nods, planting her fist into her palm. “How do we proceed then?”> Fly at treetop level, take them low.> Climb, get some altitude.> Write in

> Fly at treetop level, take them low.“Hang on! I’m taking her for a dive!”Sumire and Tiger hold onto the seat as you push up on the controls. You engage air brakes as well. The Balmoral lumbers downwards into a 45 degree dive, shaking and shuddering against the wind. You feel forced up against the seat, but it could be far worse without those air brakes. Your eyes could be forced into the back of your head! You break through the clouds. Sumire screams, “TREES!”You pull hard on the controls. Anneliese and Sumire slam into the floor with a bang as you level out. Okay, okay, now things are normal. “Rana! How many we got pursuing!?”Rana holds her head, dazed, her eyes spinning in her head. “Uhuuh….” She looks through the window. “I count six!”“Six!?”“I dunno, th- that level out kinda dazed me. It could just be three. I think one of those pirates actually crashed into a tree, so yeah, just three.”You nod. “Rana, Anneliese, man the guns.” Anneliese ducks forward into the gun compartment and charges the bolt back on the 20s.“What do I do?” says Sumire. You smirk at her. “Look cute and don’t touch anything.” She pouts at you as she sits in the co-pilot seat. “But seriously, just call things out if you see them. I’m going to do something very very stupid!” Sumire immediately buckles into her seat. Anneliese and Rana though have no such luxury. Poor them. You pull back on controls and open up the throttle, giving it all you can. “What are you doing!?” Anneliese looks back at you, angry. “We’re slowing down!” More precisely, you’re slowing down, and climbing and angling to 90 degrees vertical. You look at the speedometer. Dropping, dropping. “They’re gonna hit us!”No they’re not. You look back at the speedometer. 0. Well, if the laws of cartoon gravity serve you, this is now the time to fall. All the girls scream as the Balmoral tips over backwards and starts falling. You hear one Brigand fly under you. You squint your eyes as you feel the blood in your body slosh and splash around. Come on.There! You squeeze the triggers. The two 20mms roar, shaking the plane. One Brigand flies past your view, catching several to the wing. It splits in half, spiraling out of control. Another Brigand flies past as well, just as you start to angle out upwards. “Anneliese, nail him!”Anneliese’s head whirls around. “Whahaa…”Ah, damn it. You squeeze the firing triggers again. The 20s spray across the Brigand’s hull, then burst the tail cannon apart. It flies to the ground, smoking like a chimney.Sumire heaves a bit, covering her mouth. “I hate flying.”“DO THAT AGAIN!” screams Rana.> Speed up, and try to run away. You look at the speedometer.200 kilometers an hour.Well, that’s something at least.“Hey!” The radio shrieks to life. It’s Edward Roberts. “What the hell was that!? You can’t make a goddamn Balmoral do that!”You pick up the radio. “Well I just did, deal with it you pirate scum. Especially considering you’ve only been flying for a few months.“But next time,” he says. “You will not be so lucky and I will not be so merciful. >>35306755[2/2]……Flying in arctic weather is not fun at all. You squint your eyes against the sun reflecting off the snowy ice. The Fortress of Solitude is out here. And soon enough, you hear a voice over the radio. “Unidentified Aircraft. Identify yourself.”“This is Liberty, on mission from the Strategic Services Office, reporting to Doctor Savage’s facility for matters of national security. Requesting permission to land.” You look around at the snow. Nothing but flat expanses of snow and ice. “Sumire, you see a place to land?”Sumire shakes her head, squinting her eyes as well. “Nope.”After a minute, you hear the Air Traffic Controller. “Request granted, Liberty.” Suddenly, you see the ground in front of you split open, and unfold. Ah yes, you underestimated Doctor Savage’s cleverness. In this case, an underground facility, with an underground airstrip. The huge stretch of land splits in two, and reveals an entire airstrip underground for you to land down. Plenty of space too.You bring the Balmoral down through the opening and pull down the landing gear. The Balmoral’s slow enough anyway, and that means short landings. The tires screech as you make contact with the ground, and then land amongst a row of other planes, part of Doctor Savage’s own fleet of airplanes. A flying legion.“Alright, we’re here,” you say as you grab your bags. You kick open the door and hop out.“Christine!” A huge man of bronze greets you, clad in a smart suit and a labcoat. The Shard. Come on then, I can show you much of the Fortress of Solitude while we’re here.” He leads you four on past all the planes and through a metal door into a large warehouse. “Here at my little place, I know the meaning of security! Look around you!”You look around, to see armed guards on catwalks and next to the cargo they guard. Almost dozens of them wearing blueshirts, body armor, and black caps. “Wow…” says Sumire. “Ever have any break ins?”Doctor Savage nods. “A few, they don’t get too far though, we usually stop them before they get through the door. Now this-“ He gestures around the warehouse. “This is just cargo. Meaningless stuff.” He walks up to another metal door. “We’ll head over to my office.” A pair of Security guards walk up, then slice their keycards in a pair of computers at the same time. The door hisses open and you all walk through.Admittedly, you aren’t paying much attention. It’s just great to see Doctor Savage again. Sumire, Anneliese, and Rana are in awe at the scale of the place. You walk past laboratories, research areas, testing facilities and the like. All staffed by the finest people Doctor Savage can muster. You ask, “Doctor. How’s our airship?”“Pretty much done!” He grins. “Atomic engine, jet nacelles, facilities for a squadron of ten Devastators, the works. All on Helium as well to make it non-explosive!” You step into an elevator, and soon you’re going up again. “I’ll show it to you later however, we’re talking the Vault.”“Vault?” asks Sumire.[1/2]
>>35307444[2/2]What he means is the Vault. You turn around as you ascend up the elevator, to see just what the Vault is. You even looked relatively shocked at how big it is. It is a giant building sized bank vault, buried into the side of an enclosed mountain. Doctor Savage says, “Pure steel, ten meters thick. You’d need a heck of a lot of magic to break through that. That’s not including thirty guards with anti-magic weapons overlooking it. All in all, there is only one way out of the Vault as well. Perfectly secure.”Finally, the Elevator stops, and with a ding the doors open to reveal a quaint little office. She’s actually paying me more than the SSO does on top of forgiving my debt with every little bit!”You nod. “I can understand that. But you can ask me for money you know-““Nope.” Sumire crosses her wrists in a big X. “This is my money, and I need it. Schteel is having some internet issues, posting this in his stead.> What’s the issue?” “What’s going on?” The guard says to you, “Someone’s trying to break into the vault. We’re sending all Security teams down there to stop them now.” He points to you all. “I’ve been sent down to get you to your quarters where you’ll be safe-“ >> MAGICAL GIRL LIGHTNING! << “Out of our way, tough guy!” Lightning brushes past him, naginata under her arm. “Hey!” he shouts. “Get back here!” >> MAGICAL GIRL BOMBER! << “Pardon me!” Bomber slips in between his legs then sprints down the hall after Lightning. “Okay!” He stomps, now clearly angry. “You all need to-“ >> MECHA MAGICAL GIRL TIGER! << He stares up at the very well-equipped Tiger. She glares back down at him. “Um.” The guard scratches the back of his neck, nervous. “Y-you can go.” Tiger shoves him aside, against the wall as she stomps through the hall way. You walk up to the guard, smiling. “We’re Magical Girls, don’t think too much of it.” With Soul Ring held high, you tap into your power. [1/2]
>>35310323[2/2]>> MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY ! << You leave the guard in the dust as you run down the hall and into the elevator. Quite crowded thanks to Tiger’s machinations and armor. You descend downwards, in silence. No point in talking on an elevator after all. Then finally, you reach the desired floor. You all run out to a small army of Security Guards, right in front of the Vault. The entire room is alight with machine gun turrets being deployed from the high ceiling. Red alarm lights turn the room red with their glow as you stand under. “Where are the intruders!?” you yell. Suddenly, you hear the ceiling crack. You see stones and rocks start falling. “There’s your answer,” says Sumire. Then the ceiling gives you to a drilling capsule falling amongst the guards. Out the top pops a girl, not just any girl, a member of the Magisch Korps Sturmkinder. All the guards raise their weapons, and the turrets aim right down at her. “Drop your weapon!” >> MAGICAL GIRL CROSSHAIR! << She pulls her weapon from her back and fires. “DOWN!” You push Sumire and Rana to the ground. Crosshair fires her Lahti L-39. The shot flies, too fast for you to see. But in a few seconds, every turret gets a hole blown through them and every guard falls to the ground, a hole right through them as well. You feel the round crack and splinter right off your shield. And out pop more girls. “Well, well! You go flying right over Leaper’s head and right at Crosshair. She raises her rifle and fires again. The shot snaps right across your shield. You stay the course and slam into the capsule, knocking her off.Crosshair recovers quickly, raising her rifle again. You meet her with a shield to her barrel, slapping it down. Then a sharp shield bash to her chest, flooring her. You look back, Leaper is well… leaping all over the place, proving quite the match for Lightning, Bomber, and Tiger combined! You recoil backwards, the blade slicing across your cheek only slightly. You bring your shield down, only for her to step back and whack you with the pommel, stunning you. Then she kicks your knee, downing you.You grab your knee, it stinging with pain. Elephant runs back to the Vault and starts glowing blue with magical energy. Her hair flares upwards, and sharp crackles of magic fly across her as she focuses all her power into strength. She screams as the Vault starts moving. It grinds, its pistons and hydraulics pushing back, but slowly it starts turning open. Finally, there’s a man sized entrance ready for the taking. She goes to run in. She throws it right back at you before she lands, and all you can do is block it with your own shield. You’re thrown right into the vault, tossing over some crates of important materials and artifacts.Okay, you’re not going to do that again. Elephant looks back at you, surprised. She slices downwards, and you manage to roll out of the way. The crate explodes into a shower of splinters. You take a glance at the Shard, still in its briefcase. We believe when the Shard landed on Earth, the Atlanteans recovered it, learned how to harness its power. Eventually, they destroyed themselves after using it in some fierce war where they lost it.”Rana nods. “But we went to Atlantis though. It’s buried under a volcano and lava now.”“Yes,” says Doctor Savage. “But that is not the only place you will find those ruins. The Atlanteans were very spread out for a Kingdom of their size. >>35305527It's probably much too late, but I'm a flight sim nerd and have a couple of comments. The aircraft pictured... well, is Crimson Skies part of the setting? The aircraft resembles a number of British light and medium twin-engine bombers from the 1930s, like maybe an Avro Anson redrawn by a manga style artist who wanted to make it look "chibi," with the dorsal turret moved to the "chin" position. It ain't fast, even by the standards of the day. None of them were. In the real world, the Boeing B17 was the first bomber that was fast enough that opposing fighters actually had to work to catch up to it, and some of them had a tail turret with two .50 caliber Brownings plus a 20mm cannon, making the interceptor pilots' job rather more involved than just lining up behind it and pressing the trigger.Nonetheless an Avro Anson ain't gonna run away from any contemporary monoplane fighter aircraft that has retractable landing gear, not even a Curtiss P36 or a Brewster Buffalo. Whether they'll be able to harm it greatly is another matter; a P36 only had two .50 cals in the engine cowl plus two or four .30 cals in each wing. The Buffalo had even less armament, usually only four .30s in US Navy service (two in engine cowl, one in each wing just outside the propeller arc, all set to cross at 300 yards). The Battle of Britain showed that even eight or twelve rifle-caliber MGs wasn't enough--it took a while, and a lot of the ammo supply, to nibble a German fighter like a Bf109E to death, and for attacks on German bombers... well, that's the reason the RAF went all the way up to high-ROF 30mm electric autocannon with high explosive rounds after the war. A Spitfire or Hurricane with eight .303 caliber Brownings in its wings could run out of ammo before shooting down two or three German bombers.also,>>35305830>mfw fighter/interceptor aircraft have a tail turret, but the bomber they're attacking doesn't

(Tier 4 enemies require a 6, Tier 3 an 8, Tier 2 a 10, etc. Might need to scale it up.)I'll take all this under consideration, hash it out with people who know mechanics and the like.
>>35312393Crimson Skies is part of the setting, but only nominally. This involves lifting a lot of their aircraft and the like and giving their characters minor background cameos and the like. I'm a big fan of Crimson Skies and not including it in Magical Girl Liberty when I've included King Kong, elements of Sky Captain, and other pulp classics seemed like a mistake to me.

>>35312480I'm trying to remember whether there was once a Crimson Skies-based PC flight sim. Or, alternately, whether there was ever Crimson Skies-based content created for any flight sim. Most PC flight sims have active online modding communities.also>pulpI was kind of wondering what Doc Savage was doing there.
>>35312625That was the only part of the movie that I actually liked and even then, it still wasn't purely Indiana Jones.Good thing it doesn't exist.
