I just woke up from what feels like a horrible nightmare. Behind me, my friend hugs me while continuously saying how sorry she is for everything.

This isn't the best thing to be waking up to.

I am Itsukuma Masami, and I was spending time after-school investigating for clues on the identity of the Masked Girl. That's when I found Kaori, who seems to be a very interesting person. She promised to relief all fear and suspicion regarding me if she just took a peak into my dreams for just a few minutes.

I'm not really sure what she saw, but it sure seems to have her shook up. She grabs my back and cries in despair about how awful she feels about all this.
"I didn't...I didn't.." She repeats over and over again.
"You didn't what?" I say back to her.
I remember my dream being kind of weird and a little terrifying, but that's how most of my dreams go. Why is this one any different?

"I didn't know you were Empress in a past life, I thought you were just another monster!"
Wait, she thinks I'm 'Empress'?

>"Uhh, I'm not Empress, I'm Masami."
>"I'm not Empress, do you want to meet her? She's probably making dinner right now."
>"Can you put something on and we can talk about this?"
>Ask if her suspicions are relieved and if I can go home now.

This seems like a very delicate situation. One that I need to answer with the utmost care and control.
"Uhm, What?"
Yeah, great one Masami.

"I just.. I just..." She continues to sob.
"H-hey, it's okay, I'm fine. Right? Everything is fine. Can you tell me what scared you so much?"
"I didn't realize you were KIDNAPPED."

Wait, I was what?
"I don't think, that's exactly what happened."
"It DID happen, you were really taken and you probably had your memory wiped, too!"

"It was just a dream, Kaori."
"It was REAL, That REALLY HAPPENED!"

Wow, she's really shaken up over this.
"Hey, Earlier you called me 'Empress'?"
She only nods her head.
"But.. I'm not Empress."

She looks at me confused.
"B-b-ut, you have her memories."
"What? 'Empress' is what everyone calls my Mom."

This makes her even more confused.
"You have a mother?"

What kind of question is that?!
"Um, yes. Doesn't everyone?"

Wow, that didn't seem to help her mood at all. She looks even more distraught.
"H-Hey!" I try to sound upbeat and interrupt the gloom. "Want to come over to my house and meet her? She should be making dinner right now, and she loves having company over!"

I don't know if she actually loves it, but at least she tolerates it.
"I, can meet her?" She asks with a kind of disbelief in her voice, "Okay! Yeah! Let's go!"

She springs out of the cot and walks across the room as I feel the need to point something out to her.
"Um, Kaori. Your clothes."
She looks down at the underwear she's wearing, and realizes that she's missing her school uniform.
"Oh! I need to fix that."

Kaori texts someone before we head out. She was being extra careful to lock up the club room before we left. I'm not really sure what was so important in there, but it was apparently enough to give her pause for thought. I do the same for Aiko, so she knows that I won't have to be walked home.

On the way, she turns and asks me a question, and it's one that I'm not sure how to really answer."
"How long have you known your mother? What is she like?"

What is she like? How do I even respond to that?
I try to answer her without sound too awkward, "Um, well, she's very warm, and kind, but she has a snarky side to her that she sometimes shows." I pout lightly at that last statement.

Kaori giggles, "How did you meet her?"
That is another question that I'm not sure how she wants answered.

"She's.. My mother?"
"Well, no, that's not what I- I mean- Never mind." She looks down at her feet.
I wonder what kind of answer she was expecting.

We're both standing outside my home now. Kaori looks excited to be here, but also a little worried. I'm not sure why she's worried.

"Okay Kaori, she's a bit sensitive to some things, but I think she can handle any question you might have for her."
"Right, I'll try to not ask anything too personal."
"One other thing, can you try to keep it a secret what you saw in the dream?"

She thinks about it for a minute, like most of her questions hinged on her ability to see into people's dreams.
"I can do that, for her."
"Thank you, Kaori."

I go to open the door, but Mom beats me to it. She stands at the doorway with a beaming smile on her face and an apron on her body.
"Hey Mom"
She grabs me into her arms as she embraces me.
"Sweetie! I was really starting to worry, you staying after school after what happened earlier!"
Oh right, I had almost forgot that my life was technically in danger.

Kaori doesn't say anything, but I can tell that she's nearly floored by what she sees.
"Wow.. It really was you." is all she says.

Mom turns her attention to her, "Oh! More friends, Masami? I'm so happy that you're making so many!"
"Mom, Please." I can feel a blush starting on my face.
She kneels down to Kaori's eye-level, "I'm Izumi Itsukuma, but you can just call me Izumi. What's your name?"
"Kaori." Is all she says in return. Not even giving her last name, oddly enough.

"Kaori! Come inside! I just made enough dinner for everyone!"
"Uh! Okay! Um!" She says, as Mom practically drags her by the arm inside.

Geez Mom, you make it look like you're kidnapping her instead of inviting her into your home.

We walk in and sit down at the table. Mom heads off to the kitchen to grab the food while we stare awkwardly at one another.
I really wish I knew what she was thinking. Or at least what she was thinking of asking.

I briefly wonder if she's thinking the same thing about me, but there's a distinct possibility that she can read my thoughts. So I'm going to think about math homework instead.

Mom comes in with several plates of delicious looking food. She carefully balances it like a waitress at a restaurant as she sets all of the large plates down on the table.
Again, she's made far too much food for either of us to eat. Did she expect me to bring Kaori home? That's weird.

Mom sits down, with a smile on her face. She's clearly planning something.
"So, did you come here because you had some questions for me?"

I wish she shouldn't phrase it that way.

Nope! Not going to ask anything. If Kaori really can read my mind, then she already knows what I'm going to ask anyway.
Besides, she saw the dream along with me, and she seems to remember the most about it as well. I start eating while carefully listening.

"Uh, So Miss Itsukuma! I did have some questions. The first one, is, um."
She hesitates, but Mom only continues to smile. I wonder if she practiced that.
"Are you also named 'Empress'?"

Her grin becomes less obvious, but she's still showing a slight smile.
"That's right, I've been called that before. I prefer Izumi, though."
Okay, Mom doesn't look like she's going to cry from that. That's good! She still looks composed and confident in her voice.

"A-another question. I'm not sure how to ask this one." She says, hesitating. Which may be the first time I've ever seen her truly lose her composure.
"Izumi, were you kidnapped when you were younger? Who was your 'father'?"

Mom hesitates more at that question, but still manages to stay composed! Go Mom!
"No, no, I wasn't kidnapped. My father was a very brash, but caring man. He always found a way for us to get by in what was otherwise a very cruel, uncaring world." She looks wistful as she drinks from her teacup.

"One last question, Izumi..Uh."
Suddenly, Kaori's faces changes. Her entire demeanor shifts from the calm and collected stoic to that of a frightened little girl.
Which isn't fair, because the only one who is allowed to have that role is me.

"Izumi.. Is Masami your only daughter!?"

"ARE YOU SURE?" Kaori's voice raises in pitch and volume. The change in her attitude throws me off guard, and I notice tears pooling up in her big blue eyes.
"Um. Yes Kaori, I'm really sure."

"N-no other daughters? Really?"
"I'm certain, Kaori. Masami was something very special for me. I would be absolutely certain if it were to happen again."

Kaori starts digging in to her food. Easily cleaning up her plate and quickly drinking her tea.

"Uh?" Is all Mom can say. She still has a completely blank expression on her face.

"No! No! It's fine! I just got to get going! It's been a pleasure Miss Itsukuma, I'll- I'll"
Kaori doesn't finish her sentence, she's already stood up and bolted to the door.
"Wait! Kaori!" I follow behind her as she darts out. I turn to Mom and tell her that I'll be back and follow her.

She's already at the end of the driveway by the time I get out the door. She's bracing herself against the mailbox.
"Kaori! Wait!" I yell, catching up to her.

"What's wrong? I'm fine! Everything is fine!"
Wow, just like that, she manages to compose herself again.
"..Kaori, you are not fine. What's wrong?"
"Nothing! I just have to go help the night students, I kind of forgot about them!"

She's slightly better at lying than I am, that's not saying much.
"Really, Masami, no need to worry about me, I'm glad to have met your mother."
"I'm going to worry about you, Kaori, because that reaction was not normal. Can you at least tell me what's wrong?"

I take off running right behind her. She may be fast, but she's also tired and sad.
Which means catching up to her really isn't that hard at all!

She tries running around the corner, near the school, but instead trips and falls onto her face.
Uh oh.

I dash over to her, pulling her into a hug. She doens't seem to be hurt by it, except a tiny red mark on her forehead.
What she does have plenty of, are tears pouring from her eyes.

As I embrace her, she melts into a full-blown cry. Her sobbing and wailing seems to increase in volume until my ears themselves hurt.
She buries her face in my shoulder, and continues to wail in misery.

"Kaori, why? What is wrong?"
Then a thought occurs to me,
"Is this because I'm a monster? I'm sorry for being a monster."

This causes her to stop crying, but clutch me all the same.
"Is that why, Kaori? Is it because I'm not a human?"
"M-Masami, I thought- I thought that Empress... I was-"

Tears are continuing to pour down her face, she grabs me and tugs me even closer.

"Masami, you have a family, so that makes me the monster.."

Thread end.

Wow! You know, the DC on that roll to keep Masami's composure was 12. If you guys were one point lower, then she wouldn't have been able to keep it together either and you wouldn't have learned that.

Thanks for the thread everyone! I've been waiting for this reveal for a while. So we'll see where it takes us.

Let me know how it was, and thanks for sticking around!

Thanks for writing!

No questions from me, still archive binging.

Riiiight. We are dragging her home and having her spend the night. She isn't allowed to refuse.
>>
I don't even know what is going on anymore.
>>
>>35335901
I'll be totally honest. I don't know what to think.

They're both monsters far as I understand it. She needs to be taken home.

Or.. we should go "home" with her. Both are fine.
>>
>>35335901
Well clearly we're walking home sitting her down at the table crossing our arms and telling mom she's got a second daughter and that's that.
>>
I don't understand what's happening
>>
>>35335883
thanks for running
well, it sure felt short, but you did warn us
how's your neck btw?
>>
>>35335901
So.. is.. Masami technically just a figment of her mothers imagination?
>>

>>35335957

Can anyone recap/summarize the past 28+ threads?
>>
>>35335977
I wish my imagination was able to make living breathing daughters who love hugs as much as I do.

>>35335984
Masami cries a lot. Fortune are dicks.
>>
>>35335984
No, I don't understand why Kaori is flipping out.

She's got some of that choice information/backstory, and she's holding out on us!
>>
>>35335966
Feeling a lot better, just had to stay in bed for a few days and I began to feel better.

This is about like what I was hoping the reactions would be. Rest assured, all will be answered in due time!

>Masami is a magic-powered tulpa
... holy shit, that's actually not that crazy

>>35336033
I have no idea as to what a Tulpa is...

>>
>>35336074
I forget the details, but it's basically a figment of you imagination that you force to feel real to you. Terribly bad for your mental health, as I understand it.
>>
>>35335984
We cry, we kick ass, we give names.
>>
>>35336074
well it's a bit hard to explain but basically it's an imaginary friend pushed up to eleven, to the point of being pretty much a full person (minus the body) linked to you
>>
>>35336116
Well that explains it then glad I said it. Mom's not weaker or just getting old. She invested her power into us. We're it. It's why she's having difficulty doing her work. It's all invested in keeping us real. Which explains why it's all natural to us.. because we're just that power.

>>35336116
If Masami is a tulpa, she's powered by imagination.

So, at what point do we get to kick reason to the curb and do the impossible?
>>
>>35336116
>Terribly bad for your mental health, as I understand it.
not really
sure it can sound weird/silly/from JoJo, but it seems to help people cope with stuff (mostly loneliness, i guess?)
>>
I really like the discussion you guys are having.
>>
>>35336161
That doesn't make sense. Fortune said we were created because Mom was getting weaker.

Why would Fortune lie to us?
>>
>>35336419
I'm going to assume that's sarcasm.

Either way we're at heart breaking with how things turn out. I mean hell look at the dreams. She's incapable of having her own.

Hell from what I've gathered out of them we're apparently some sort of friend she had when she was younger that was created by her. We're just another card. Granted a powerful one.

So.. should at some point we ask Mom.. if we're real?
>>
>>35336558
Just stick with asking Mom exactly what we are and how we were made. Asking if we're real is asking for another crying session.
>>
>>35336467
>We're just another card. Granted a powerful one.
Isn't Mom one as well? Dream-boy did call her a monster too.

Cards having card-clone-babies. Also Kaori's, whatever they are.
>>
>>35336558
No, we will ourselves real regardless.

There's only room for one Masami in this world!

(Or would that be too much boiling blood/manly spirit for a mahou shoujo?)
>>
>>35336605
I'd rather know and cry than be ignorant.

It also leads to some interesting possibilities. For instance if that's how we where made... then why shouldn't Julie or Shieldcard who I've forgotten the name of.. be walking around as well. If Mom can do it and we're stronger than her why the hell not.

>>35336622
Something leads me to believe she might be real. The dreams if nothing else. Mom that is anyway.
