You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

“Mr. Wingates…”

The ticket man (there’s a word for what he is, you know it, it’s… it’s on the tip of your brain…) rips a small incision into the small slip of paper, turning to Remy. He frowns in momentary confusion.

“Mr.…. Wingates…?”

Ha ha ha. Isn’t this excellent?

Jokes at your expense aside, the two of you are ushered into the intimidatingly old building, your feet drifting barely cognizantly along the plush red runway leading up to the arched doors. Boy do you feel fancy – you’ve got your tie, you’ve got your nice suit, you’ve got your James Bond watch. Hell, you’re pretty sure someone just took a picture of you – or, at least, of your general sorta vicinity. Everyone you see walking down the red carpet beside you looks all kinds of important, though, truly, you’re mostly at a loss as to names.

And Remy was right, too – nobody even questioned your hyper suspicious glasses at night or your dumb ears, because they all just assumed you were bursting at the seams with capital.

Joke’s pretty much on them, huh?

Inside awaits a grand, open hall, the architecture harkening back to NY’s picturesque old days of golden promises. People stand around in glamorous outfits, smiling and laughing at one another, a cloud of champaign gradually thickening over their heads, and a broad, arched stage stands ready on one side.

“Nervous?” Asks Remy, smiling broadly. “What you think about findin’ a bunch of pretty girls ta’ while away the hour wid’?”

“Wouldn’t that be breaking cover?” You respond, a little glum.

“Ah, well… no need to be goin’ method…”

Can JJ use his mimicry ability to copy someone's voice? And if he watches things sped up, can he do sped-up actions too?

Could Sonic Scream disrupt Creeper's power by making it hard for him to concentrate on using his faux invisibility, allowing people to see him?

I don't think JJ could see (and/or be able to copy) everything that makes a voice sound like how it does.

anything untargetted/aimed badly could. So yes.

Stealth depends on the frequency, but your still outputting soundwaves, so depending on the opponent really. High end will use it to detect us though.

KINETIC MULTIPLICATION MEMBRANE
Requires: Level 2 Winged Flight, Level 3 Optical Force Blasts
Cost: 1
This allows JJ’s wings to draw on an internal battery of kinetic energy, increasing his top flight speed and making it easier to attain.

CONCUSSIVE BURST
Requires: Level 3 Optical Force Blasts
Cost: 2
JJ’s force beams may now ‘detonate’ on contact with objects, resulting in a burst of concussive force that expands outward from the point of impact.

HAND EYES
Requires: Level 2 Optical Force Blasts
Cost: 3
JJ now has eyes on his palms. Eyes that can shoot force beams at one level lower than his current level in Optical Force Blasts.

ADHESIVE RAY
Requires: Level 3 Optical Force Blasts, Level 3 Adhesive Touch
Cost: 2
JJ may now cause objects struck by his optical force beams to become highly adhesive, sticking adamantly to other objects.

>>
>[X] Roam around generally scoping out the place.
>[X] Look around for faces.

Well, okay. That makes sense.

Still, you think you have better things to do before the hour strikes eight.

You tell Remy that you’ll be scoping out the place, he tells you he’s sorry for your loss, and you depart.

The gala – man, you know, you have no idea what this thing is even about, do you? – seems to be going along swimmingly. It’s all suit men and dress ladies chatting one another up, and despite your metamorphosis under the eye of Remy and his sidekicks (interns), you can’t help but feel distinctly out of place. At least nobody’s watching you. Nobody seems to be watching anything, really. Bits of art, geometrical shapes of stone and clay, have been trotted out for everyone’s viewing pleasure, but you rarely see or hear anyone commenting on any of them. Everyone’s too busy looking fabulous.

Is this what rich people do? If you were a rich man (yubby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dum), is this how you’d spend your afternoons? For a moment you try to imagine the rest of the gang standing there, all dolled up in little black dresses and Armani cloth, and it just doesn’t work.

As you circle the hall you count no less than six exits. There’s gotta be at least one behind the stage, too, but getting back there without making a fuss would be difficult. There’s a pair of landings verging out on opposite ends of the room, so at least two of those doors must head upstairs.

You frown. Spy work is hard. You – holy shit is that Johnny Storm?

You freeze up, staring. No, man, no, that can’t be Johnny Storm. Nah man. It’s a lookalike.

You squint. It’s definitely a lookalike. He’s got the chin and the blonde hair, and the young ladies on his arms, but why would he be here?

Yeah…

Actually, JJ could probably stand to use infrared vision and his various senses to try and see if he can detect anyone seriously unusual in the crowd. Abnormally high or low body temperatures, heart rates, etcetera. Might be useful information for later.

We should be able to detect Creeper with danger sense and we could always get echolocation if we want a more proactive Creeper searching method.

I just feel Optical Force Blasts offer more versatility and locking in a power set primarily just to kill two semi-recurring enemies seems a waste.

We'd probably just get new, perhaps even worse enemies to replace them.

>>35392731
I blame his crippling lack of self confidence and various phobias more than his shitty luck

That doesn't mean that what I'm saying isn't true. If Crusty gave us this ability as an option it's likely because our wings and flight DO make noise and probably provides a bonus or a decreased DC to stealth checks

There's another sonic based ability that lets us hover like a harrier jet which is also rad

You know what? It REALLY isn’t gonna be Johnny Storm. And it doesn’t matter anyhow, you’ve got a job to do.

You break away from the crowd, moving deftly through the crush of white teeth and glittering dresses, and slip behind one of the doors set on either side of the party. The place isn’t small, and you stumble around a bit before getting anywhere, cloaking yourself in invisibility so as to avoid any unwanted surprises. After nearly opening a door in a security guard’s face, you’ve officially located the security room, the men and women lounging within putting your presence down to faulty hinges (which, in this day and age of superpowered espionage, is a really quite shocking level of incompetence).

Eventually, you find your way upstairs, making your way across one of the landings overlooking the night’s proceedings. There looks to be multiple private rooms on this level, all of them functionally identical – glancing this way and that, you take a little peak into each of them, disappointed to find that they’re all pretty much laid out the same way; big oval table, blacked out windows (that’s not skeevy at all), one way in and one way out.

Only one has the cutlery set out, though.

You guess you know where you’re going.

Feeling pretty nice and smug about your ability to weasel your way around, you move toward the stairs when –

Your heart surges in your chest. You feel the world screech down to a point and pass like a bolt of lightning through the back of your brain. It tingles in your spine, a sudden, blaring sense of imminent danger, stronger than any you’ve felt before – much stronger.

It’s not you so much as it’s an animal part of you that moves. You leap aside, crouching down beside the edge of the landing, the hairs on your neck standing static-straight.

Nothing happens. Your eyes dart to and fro, searching for some sign of danger, but there’s nothing. There’s nobody here except you. You can’t even hear any footfalls remotely closeby.

Shakily, you pull yourself back up to your full height, the sharp, acidic stab of the warning fading away into a soft hum, and then into nothing.

>[X] Stay

Maybe your danger sense just… needs to reboot occasionally? Something like that?

Or maybe you’re finally coming apart at the seams. You wonder how healthy it is for the brain to be processing all these new superpowers – all the sticky adhesive hands and the sensory barrages and the sudden ability to just know how stuff will fly through the air.

Putting it behind you, you glance down at your watch.

>7:28 PM

You guess… you’re here now. Might as well wait it out. Not long ago you’d want to keep the pressure off your invisibility, but these days that doesn’t seem to bother you all too much. Another thing that your brain must be working overtime on.

You wait, hunkering down against the bannisters, the party glittering below. Occasionally you think you feel the passing ghost of that feeling, that sudden stab of onrushing death, but it’s vague and tentative, as if your weird sixth sense can’t quite make any kind of decision.

Eventually, the first guest of honour arrives, stomping his way up the stairs in a pair of ridiculously broad boots. You know this guy – sort of. You’ve seen him before. He’s about 6’fucking a lot” of slate grey muscle and tenuously fitted tuxedo, and though you don’t see a smile pass along his lips on his way to the room, you know that his teeth are filed down to a point. He has a real name, of course, but you don’t know it – you know him simply as Tombstone.
>>
>>35393573
>Maybe your danger sense just… needs to reboot occasionally? Something like that?
JJ you literally know you have a nemesis who you're unable to notice, gosh you're slow at piecing things together.
>>
>>35393589

>>
>(2/2)

He and his small entourage of very serious men wait by the door, their faces stoically impatient. Soon enough they are joined by another familiar face – the scowling, hunched silhouette of that old bastard the Owl, accompanied by a gaggle of ill-fitting thugs. They greet each other cordially enough, though you see the derision in Tombstone’s eyes, and the loathing in his fellow’s. The next to join the party is – you’re pretty damn certain it’s Mister goddamn Negative, actually, your old acquaintance, on account of him being totally photo-negative and accompanied by a bunch of weirdos in vaguely Chinesey monster masks.

They wait a short while, sharing curt, formal introductions, before finally joined by the Russians, spearheaded by the blank face of the Chameleon (Christ that guy is creepy). While he's striding up front, though, he appears to be playing second fiddle to some heavily scarred woman with the bearing of a battleship.

None of these guys seem like nice people.

We have super hearing, WHY would we be in the room with the most dangerous people in the city?
>>
>[X] Sneak into the room with them.

But then again, they can’t be that bad, can they? If they were, you wouldn’t be following them into a closed room with blacked out windows and… not entirely favorable maneuvering conditions. You’d be running the other way. You’ve duked it out with legit supervillains, right? Kimura is possibly a supervillain. These guys are C+ list at best.

And hey. Tombstone ain’t that bad, he’s just a businessman, in the business of putting his fist through people’s skulls. Creeper took you to meet him once, and he seemed, you know… he seemed like he wasn’t the Owl, at least. He even had a daughter, probably your age.

Despite all this fine ass reasoning, you are somewhat bewildered with yourself when you step carefully over the threshold behind them, zipping off into the corner of the room while they make their way to their seats.

Why did you do that you didn’t need to do that.

Well… what’s done is done, you guess.

How much noise does smashing your way out through a wall make, again?

Feeling understandably uneasy, that ebbing pulse still lurking somewhere at the base of your spine, you sniff the air. No paint fumes – just polishing agents, overconfidence, and the kind of tension you could cut with a dildo.

You breathe out a sigh of relief, and get to paying attention.

They get right to it, the Owl starting off with what you think must be some kind of subtle dig at his towering rival:

“Silverman’s not here, then, Big Man?” Yeah this is definitely going to be an attempted burn. “Guess the old guy needs his rest after that debacle with the Spider.”

Tombstone’s reply is pure gravel. His tonsils must basically be a pair of boulders.

“Mr. Manfredi doesn’t meet just anyone.”

Ouch. Better put some aloe vera on that shit.

It strobes through you again, the lightning. Every nerve ending in your body screams that you have to move, but you bundle up your guts into a knot and you just ignore the shit out of it – you cannot, you absolutely cannot, be making a whole ton of noise right now.

You manage to push through it, the adrenaline leaving you all jittery, and avoid throwing yourself under the table or somewhere similarly awkward. Your heart pounding in your ears, you manage to steer your attention back to the matter at hand…

“…all know why we’re here.” That’s Mister Negative. He sounds really chill, like almost zen. “Why don’t we get all of this nasty business out of the way before it spoils our dinners?”

The Owl snorts loudly.

“The food here is terrible anyway.” Wow, rude much. Not like he can really comment on others’ palettes, either. You hear he eats for real rats, all alive and squirming and stuff.

“The way it seems from here…” It’s the Russian now. She speaks from behind a cigarette and looks out at the rest of the assembled warlords with eyes like those of a corpse. You really do not like her. “…we have a difficult situation before us. One the one hand, this mutant drug, it’s profitable. On the other, it has become a very public thing. We are all of us settling in these lands, we are finding our feet, and the decision to manufacture the ‘Jack’ affects that.”
>>
Do you guys think Noriko has noticed the lizard butt and is frustrated because she knows that if she tries to grab it, she will be murdered in her sleep?
>>
>(2/2)

“I suppose you were thinking about that when you started production?” Retorts the Owl, narrow his beady little eyes at her. “Who is it, eh? Your supplier? I know you Ruskies, not a decent chemist among you. You must have had outside help.”

“We are not producing Jack.”

“Bullshi”–

“Now, now…” Mister Negative interjects between the two with the air of a travelling monk, raising his hands in an attempt to placate them. “…None of us can afford to presume at this stage. And I don’t believe we can afford a bloodbath, either. After the explosion, this is all far too close to the public eye for that. It is my belief that, for now, a coalition of sorts should”–

“And the Jack?” Tombstone. Looking thoroughly unimpressed.

“Well… the Jack is out of the box. I say that we cooperate in its distribution, to best avoid any further messiness.”

The derisive chuckle on the Russian side of the table tells you, and the rest of them, that someone doesn’t agree. And you just have to look at the Owl’s face to see that he’s out for blood.

Just as it was getting interesting, you hear footfalls approaching from the stairs.

>[X] Stay to watch events unfold.

Five, four, three, two…

The doors swing open, hinges rattling. You smell a familiar, cold sheen of grease. Oh…

…Toad.

Toad, looking surprisingly dressed up, his hair pulled back to one side and his squirmy little eyes covered by the biggest, baddest pair of aviators you’ve ever seen. And he’s not alone – he’s being accompanied by Geldoff (hey, that guy), the king of obvious accents, and… possible the Knight Rider? The woman standing to his left is tall – taller than him, at least – and clad from head to toe in strangely segmented, black leather, like someone decided the average set of motor biking gear simply did not have enough kevlar for the kind of extreme volcano rimming they wanted to get up to. Her head is encased in a reflective visor and she appears to have a pair of, seriously, samurai swords strapped to her back.

Ha ha this is probably time to git.

“You.” Had anyone but Tombstone said that, it’d probably be more of a ‘you!’, but the guy’s voice is cold as death and flatter than ground zero. “Neither you nor your employer received any manner of invitation, and I believe it would be best for everyone if you”–

The girl snaps her fingers and – and you reel back, your heart pounding, as an arc of flame ignites in the air between her and the mob boss, thoroughly shutting the man up.

Toad sneers.

“Yeh, that’s better.”

Okay, this is a level of intensity you might not be quite ready for. But on the other hand… this is kind of what you’ve been waiting for, isn’t it? Some indication of where Creeper is, or what the hell he’s doing.

You find yourself of two minds, half of you wanting to be as far away from potentially horrible burns as possible, and the other half deeply involved.

>[X] Stick it out.

You plant your feet. Mortimer, that slimy bastard, he has answers of some kind. And you want them.

“Right then, you all know who I represent, yeh?” Probably the most rhetorical question in history. Toad has a swagger in his posture that you could absolutely not hope to replicate. He’s enjoying this. “And you know who he represents. This is all very basic knowledge, right?”

He waits a moment, but his audience is mostly silent, a mixed bag of disgust and legitimate fear in their eyes. He shrugs.

“Yeh, okay then, basically, get the fuck out of the Creeper’s town right now. Burn your Jack stockpiles, or hand ‘em over, and get gone.”

“Boy.” Tombstone’s voice rolls like thunder. “You have no idea what I can do to you.”

“Yeh?” He actually laughs – Mortimer laughs right in the face of one of the biggest, horriblest men in NY. “Maybe, but I have an idea of what my lady friend here”– he gestures to the woman at his side –“can do to your fat ass.”

“As far as we know, none of us are producing Jack.” Says the Russian, keeping her cool in the face of the fire. Toad balks.

“Right. Yeh, I guess that’s logical. It just Harry Pottered itself up out of nothing? Who the hell else”–

Something smashes through the window behind you, slicing through the air over your head. You start – you didn’t feel that coming, your danger sense sort of lost in in the constant buzz. It drops down right in the middle of the table, spilling silverware across the surface and rolling to a stop.

It… looks kinda like a pumpkin.

Ah well, this was one vote where I was pretty much fine with either option winning.

So are we going to be looking to pump this power up to at least Rank 2 or 3 (at rank 3 the beam can change direction once in mid-air) before moving onto other things?

Right now, I'm interested in making this power useful, and also Kinesics for helping JJ get better at reading people (which should work well with Muscle Memory) and Echolocation.

Rank 2 Taserhands opens up some cool extrapolatives.

>DEADLY NEUROTOXIN
>Requires: Level 2 Electrostatic Touch, Level 2 Claws & Fangs.
>Cost: 2
>JJ’s fangs become capable of delivering a potent, electrically charged toxin that confuses its victim’s nervous system and causes its motions to become steadily more encumbered.

>TRACER TOXIN
>Requires: Level 2 Electrostatic Touch, Level 2 Claws & Fangs.
>Cost: 2
>JJ’s fangs become capable of delivering a distinctive isotope that allows him to ‘feel’ for the location of his target at vast distances. This effect can last for several days, during which it becomes impossible for JJ to lose track of the host.

>>35396127

This. That and having hands that can shoot force blasts might get awkward in certain situations where maintaining control is going to be an issue.

>>35396237

I like it because it feels like a natural extension of and has nice synergy with JJ's electrostatic touch, which has been one of his most consistently useful powers. The earlier levels of it aren't much, but could potentially be very useful if we're ever under fire from weapons with computer-assisted targeting. Higher levels essentially lets him surround himself with eight square meters of EMP while channeling his electrostatic touch through it. The capstone even lets him turn the cloud into a burst of superheated plasma, though it is tiring to do so.

I just think it suits JJ's existing powerset more than becoming Eliza Thornberry.

>>
>>35396311
You sure? Because she still has to absorbe nutrients through her GI tract so if we can break off a claw in her mouth I'm guessing it'd have an effect. But seriously this isn't a buy that's targeted at Kimura, it's is standard utility for dealing we basically everyone else.

>PHOTOSYNTHETIC BIOLOGY
JJ mutates a number of plantlike attributes, first and foremost among them the ability to derive sustenance from sunlight.
Level 1: JJ may now derive a measure of sustenance from direct sunlight. As long as he spends a few hours per day standing under the sun, he can mitigate the effects of hunger.
Level 2: JJ may now mitigate hunger via shorter time exposed to sunlight.
Level 3: JJ may now metabolize indirect sunlight, though this takes longer. He can choose to ‘store’ energy gained this way for a rainy day rather than consuming it immediately.
Level 4: JJ shakes off fatigue and illness more easily when under the sun. He can choose to temporarily boost one of his attributes to heightened levels by burning through stored solar energy.
Level 5: JJ is nearly impossible to tire out under the sun and can sustain himself almost indefinitely with only sunlight and sparse amounts of water for nourishment.

IDK about potential extrapolatives though
