@QMKingofHearts.

Today is June 7th, UC 0084. You are Dominic O'Hara, a Commander in the Titans anti-terror organization and squadron leader for the mobile weapon forces aboard the SCV-82 Valkyrie. Earlier this week the long-awaited rebuild of your team's Lilium mobile suits was completed, producing two transforming machines capable of splitting into two fighter forms each.

“So here's the new assignment list we worked out with Karen,” Haman tells you, pressing a dataslate into your hands.

You lean your deskchair back. Looking the list over you find that Carya and Catrina are set to continue piloting the “attacker” half of the second machine, still called the Viola, due to the fact that together they can pilot the machine and handle remote weapons. Paired with them is Rossweisse in the “bomber” half, tentatively named “Sericea” after a white rose with gargantuan thorns native to China. You quietly figure she's there to take the strain off the Sisters when they use remote weapons, since Rosse's been showing some increased brainwave output in the last six months or so. The Lilium and Iris are the attacker and bomber of Unit One, with the same three pilots and copilots who used to handle those machines when they were separate.

“Looks like we're together again,” you comment, handing the slate back to Haman.

She bows to you sarcastically. “Please continue to take good care of me.”

“Right. We'll have to work out the assignments for the rest of our unit once we've got a full roster.”

“I'll bring it up with Reiko and Karen later,” Haman offers with a quick peck on the cheek.

ALICE appears on your terminal screen as Haman leaves, holding a digital folder for you.

“I have a series of possible live-fire test scenarios for the Lilium-Ikebana machines that Captain Joshua wishes for you to look over,” the AI announces, opening her folio and throwing out a few image frames and dossiers which open onto your screen.

There seem to be three missions that need doing: one sent down from Titans regarding a high-ranking Principality officer who seems to have strayed from the remnants' hideouts in the illusive Garden of Thorns, one from Audrey and Reiko regarding information they've found on the illegally-operated penal regiment called “Slave Wraith”, and the third is a hostage situation in Side 4's Industrial 7 colony. Armed insurgents there managed to steal a trio of mobile suits and are holding a whole office building hostage. Their list of demands is as extensive as it is inane.

ALICE pops her head up over one of the images and peers down at you, curious as to what you'll decide...
>The Zeon HVT is a rare opportunity to decapitate the Principality resistance, and keep them on their proverbial heels while the EFSF and Titans work on locating the Garden.
>The Slave Wraith situation is a disaster waiting to happen. Deal with its organizers and expose the program to greater public scrutiny before things get any worse.
>The hostage situation would be a good chance to test out your stealth capacity, and you'd rather launch your own surgical strike rather than let Titans have a go.
>Ask for more information on...
>>
>>35457298
How time sensitive are these missions? Can we put Slave Wraith on the back burner for long enough to sort out the hostage situation?

Shit's hitting the fan. Again.

Which has the highest civilian casualty count if we do not intervene? Can we hit any of them simultaneously? The Valkyrie drops off one team while continuing onto the next objective. Possible or no?
>>
>>35457387
We don't really have a separate team anymore. We're all concentrated into two extremely high-performance mobile suits. We could stick Apolly or Roberto in Rossweisse's old Kampfer, I suppose, but that's it.
>>
>>35457298
Im split between the last 2.

Hostage situation is probably going to end with the hostages and a small part of the neighborhood dead if we leave it to the titans, but we really need to deal with slave wraith.

Can you give me a run down on what slave wraith are actually doing?
>>
>>35457375
I mentioned it last thread, but I'll do so again. We have a lead-in for the mobile suit Rosseweisse was slated to pilot when we were poking around in Anaheim's systems way back when.

That's another lead-in for us.
>>
>>35457359
Slave Wraith is a slow-moving thing. It'll be there fr a while. The hostage situation is going to be resolved in the next few days whether you're there or not... as for how that will go, you can't be sure. The Zeon HVT is the only opportunity that's literally a one-time thing.

This

How'd you enjoy the finale of GBF Quest KoH?
>>
>>35457430
We have the Kampfer, the Val Varo (maybe), two Luna Titanium Hizacks and two Quels (maybe again). We have more than enough suits. Plus the psychomine system from the Schnee Weiss.

>>
>>35457435
Mostly missions against the Principality remnants. The ethics of the situation are questionable at best, though, and it IS clearly a violation of postwar Federation law and EFSF regulations.
>>
>>35457458
were is the zeon HTV located?
is it a civ populated area or some random ass creek outpost?
>>
>>35457480
We also got one Gundam Mk. II for testing.
>>
>>35457298
>>The Zeon HVT is a rare opportunity to decapitate the Principality resistance, and keep them on their proverbial heels while the EFSF and Titans work on locating the Garden.
>>
>>35457458
Right, then, let's deal with the hostages. Titans can handle taking out the HLV, causing rampant destruction is their favorite pastime. They could even intercept it mid-flight with the new Asshimars, they'll love it. But hostage situations aren't really playing to their strengths.
>>
>>35457458
If that's the case, then the hostage situation should be handled with a ground team supported by one of our Ikebanana suits and one of our pre-production Hizacks AND the Kampfer.

If the HVT is a one-time thing, make best speed after dropping our mobile suits
>>
>>35457387
The Sides involved are days apart. Using the subflight boosters it may be possible to hit two at the same time, but half your team would be totally unsupported until they were picked up.
>>
>>35457480
They let us keep the Quels and Hizacks? I did not realize that. I had also forgotten we had a spare Mark II as >>35457512 pointed out. Though apparently it's not really the same Mark II as in canon but more of a Super Hazel. Something which I dearly hope means it can use more support packs than just the G-Defensor.

Do we have the Val Varo functional and capable of being piloted? The thing is designed for long range patrols. We outfit a storage locker on the back of it for resupply. Although, repairing damage in the field will be incredibly tricky.

Zeon HVT and hostages.

Hence the maybe at the end of each of those. I'm relatively sure we have them (plus whatever Apolly and Roberto took from Anaheim while touring Australia).

>>35457766
Look at it like this anon, if we survive the shit storm after titans, we can probably never have to have our stuff messed with ever again.
>>
>>35457298
You're tempted by the HVT, and the hostage situation is clearly something that would be better handled by a team that's not comprised of power-hungry war criminals in the making. But still, you feel like you need to review all the data.

The HVT is on his way from Side 5 to New Manhattan in Side 4: the better part of the way across the Earth Sphere. His shuttle is several days out, and you'd be in a position to intercept him well before he reaches Lunar orbit.

The situation in Side 4 itself would be difficult to deal with while simultaneously running any other operations: you'd need your own suits to both strike and secure the area around Industrial 7, and the Valkyrie would need to be there to lay out fire support. As Industrial 7 and New Manhattan are opposite each other in their orbit around the Lagrangian point, you couldn't quite cover both unless you were EXTREMELY fortunate in one or the other.

You're not entirely sure where Slave Wraith is operating, but it's home base is either in Side 2 or Side 5. They shouldn't be difficult to track down, as they tend to leave a pretty big footprint. A LOT of people take notice of criminals in mobile suits... in fact, half your reports are from members of the general public.

In terms of solo operation, the Val Varo could be used to intercept the Zeon HVT, but that would require picking one of your Zeon pilots to run that op unsupervised... and there'd be zero probability of capture. It just wouldn't be feasible.

I didn't even need to finish reading that to know the Val Varo was a feasible choice for hitting the HVT.

Yes for using the Val Varo. Sayla pilots if we have another ships surgeon or if the Doktor can fill in temporarily. She's the only one that we know that has mobile armor experience.

Excluding that, have Pazom pilot. She's eager to prove herself. Let her.

Being out of port, the HVT is fine for the titans to handle. They'll probably just kill him, but frankly civvys are more important.

sending the val varo alone is just asking for it to be intersepted by the Titans
>>

Oh God, Mineva is probably gonna sneak away because of reasons.
Well, if she is savvy enough to use aliases already, Audrey Burne wouldn't be a surprising choice given that we already have an Audrey onboard, and she also met a man with Burning as his last name.
>>
>>35457819
Are we the only team that could intercept the HVT? Because unless the Titans couldn't handle it themselves, I think the hostage situation is a better use of our talents.

Going over the numbers, you really don't like the odds of the Val Varo completing its mission and still having enough oxygen for a pickup, so you bring up Karen on the comm system and suggest that you focus your efforts on the hostage crisis.

Karen nods with a smile. "Figured you couldn't leave that one alone. I'll call a meeting to discuss how we should run the op."

About an hour later your pilots and bridge staff are gathered in the ready room. A few beers have been cracked open, and there's a pot of coffee for those of you just coming off a shift.

"So what do we know about the colony?" Roberto asks. "Are the civilians going to be amiable, or are they going to try and get in our way?"

Audrey shrugs. "No clue. Most of our suits have birdlime launchers anyway, so mobs of civilians aren't a real threat. The actual problem is that the GMs that were stolen may have beam weapons."

ALICE brings up an image of a GM Command-type with what looks an awful lot like a beam gun. "Estimated probability 90 percent," the AI informs you, putting a number to your suspicions.

Carya shrugs. "They're GMs, so conventional weapons and melee should be fine. We just need to hit them fast enough that they can't retaliate."

"The stealth systems on the Liliums could help," Emma offers. Haman, however, shrugs.

"Approaching with those active could let them know something was happening. Their signals would suddenly be coming back scrambled."

"But it gives us a cleaner entry," Karen points out.

I know. Which is why I'm getting behind it. The quicker we kill Paptimus the faster we can return things to normal. Some sacrifices must be made.

>>35458215
Infiltrate the Kampfer first in it's component parts. It's tailor made for guerrilla warfare. Perform a frontal assault with our Ikebananas and the Valkyrie, drawing off as much of their forces as possible. Secure the hostages with the Kampfer after enough forces have been drawn off.
>>
Any way of getting the colony to run a electronic scramble of the area well in advance of our op?
we keep it up long enough and we can hit them as they start to lull.
>>
>>35458215
>Other?
Could we start off running silent, then switch on the jammers either when we are ready to strike, or if one of us gets spotted... Because I feel that would net us the best of both. Unless the Jamming systems take a while to warm up...

>You agree with Haman, you need to find a way to approach stealthily without relying on the scramblers

Is beam chaff a thing already? We could saturate the area with it first, force the GM off the hostage site if it wants to use the rifle or negate it to some extent if it wants to hold its ground.
Ignore this suggestion if those aren't available yet.
>>
>>35458289
Addendum; One Ikebanana infiltrates with the Kampfer. Use the Mk II in the assault.

>>35458317

>beam chaff
*anti-beam chaff

And I just remembered that our Ikebana has Anti-Beam Coating applied to it, though the reason for shutting the beam rifle down early on has to do with preventing Minovsky reaction nuke level explosions and colony hull breaches, I suppose.
>>
>>35458362
It is available, but they're inside the colony, and antibeam countermeasures are usually designed to be launched from ship-mounted tubes.

It'd be damn hard to sneak the Valkyrie into the colony cylinder.
>>
>>35458427
we could strap them to the val and use it as a support role.
>>
>>35458427
Carry the missiles into the colony and set them to detonate on a timer. I know they're BIG, but surely a mobile suit can lift and carry one of the things.
>>
>>35458379

>>You agree with Haman, you need to find a way to approach stealthily without relying on the scramblers
>>
>>35458563

In combined mode, we have 4 arms and the Funnels... I don't think that The O can use it's sub-arms AND it's Funnels simultaneously...
>>
>>35458468
We wouldn't need to carry the entire missile. Just the warhead itself. And they're already set to detonate on a timer. Although, the timer may be too long for our needs.
>>
>>35458693
Jurry rig a timer grenade with the chaff instead of explosive head, fit the gundams with em. Problem solved.

Limited time, but frankly, we only need enough time to close to melee.
>>
>>35458677
The O doesn't have funnels. But it's sister unit, the Titania, does (also four sub-arms, the same rifle as the O, and an I-Field generator. It's pretty badass). And Paptimus made it with the aim of gifting it to whichever woman he chose to be his queen. So I wouldn't be surprised if Dom and his battle harem wound up fighting it. It would make for a nice little parallel.
>>
>>35458215
"Why not both?" you shrug. "Run quiet until we're in range, then switch on the scramblers at the last minute."

Haman and Karen exchange a glance, but seem to agree. "We could try and shadow a cargo ship," Karen suggests. "The first demand made was for a list of ships passing in the area. Following a scheduled ship would take some solid piloting."

"I'm on it," Defrah replies with a lazy salute.

Audrey has ALICE bring up an image of the flight plans around Industrial 7, then finds a freighter scheduled for a close pass near the colony.

"We'd come in on chemical thrusters to kill our heat signature," Audrey proposes," then catapult the infiltration team towards this access point." She points to an entry hangar fairly close to the building being held by the insurgents.

Catrina frowns. "We'd have to go in on apogee motors, then use the heat wires as magnetic anchors to slow ourselves."

"We should also find a way to neutralize that beam weapon, and any others they have," Haman mutters. "I'd hate to chance it by just going in fast."

You ponder the issue for a few seconds before an idea strikes you. "We have a few anti-beam gas shells, right?"

Catharine nods. "Three, but they won't fit your clay bazookas."

"Don't need them to," Rossweisse points out.

"Trigger them by wire," Karen concludes. "That's actually not a bad idea. Do we have the sort of wires and crap we'd need to make it happen?"

Audrey nods. "Sure do."

"Right. Roberto, Apolly, Emma, you'll stand by until the operation kicks off. We'll need to relay you sensor information until the stealth suites are deactivated, since you'll be just as blind as our targets then you'll be on overwatch," Karen orders.

"Dominic? Have your teams shoot to kill."

Rosse's headaches are abating, and CC never complained about undergoing stresses about merging with one another. Team coordination exercises. Even with the majority of movements being controlled by a single pilot, the secondary cockpit can still affect the Ikebana's positioning. We want to make sure we don't accidentally get the limbs in each others way. It also should help with the psycommu issues. Also just hang out with the rest of the team, not just the combat pilots. See how Sayla's doing, find out how Ilia's adjusting to working in the Hangar, shoot the breeze with the bridge staff...that sort of thing.

You immediately jink left as phantom Gelgoogs appear on your screen, quickly closing in under loosely organized fire from ALICE's point defense guns and downing the first with a simple shot through the cockpit.

One.

As the second and third enemies maneuver into close range, a fourth and fifth dance at about 500 meters out, readying rockets. The simulated fire from your beam guns in your wrists, the 110mm gatlings in your chest, and the 55mm vulcans in the Lilium's new head easily scythe through the incoming barrage of explosives, and a beam rifle shot cores a second Gelgoog. The other one which had been closing takes a simulated heat wire to the chest, courtesy of Audrey, who electrocutes the suit and swings it into the projected firing lanes of the Valkyrie.

Three.

ALICE's fire slacks, which allows you to slide into a nice little blind spot left by the phantom Gelgoog while Haman sorties six of your eight funnels. They tiny remote weapons absolutely shred a fake Gelgoog, and force the last suit to fire a beam cannon round towards you that you might not have time to dodge... and it was WAY too large for a Gelgoog's weapon...

Five.

… so you simply disengage the two halves of your suit in the middle, effectively allowing the blast to pass right through where your cockpits would have been. Audrey quickly closes and slices off the simulated Gelgoog's legs while Haman's funnels dispose of the rest.

Seven.

After seven seconds of combat, ALICE's fire ceases, and Miyu lets loose a low whistle.

“That didn't last long,” Karen admits. “Honestly, I was hoping for more of a show, and less of a one-sided ass-whooping.”

"We will require better simulated enemies," ALICE concludes.

Carya and Catrina aree more focused on evaluating their overall abilities. Carya weaves the Viola and the Sericea gracefully through incoming "fire", while Catrina's four funnels hit several Gelgoogs and channel the remainder into a perfectly laid-out killbox for Carya's beam machine gun and Rossweisse's now semi-automatic grenade rifle.

In he end, the Sisters parry two of their phantom attackers with their beam sabers while Rossweisse uses her subarms' heat wires to retrieve beam sabers stored on the Gelgoogs, then combines her simulated attacks with those of the Sisters.

The four-armed monstrosity of human ingenuity fueled by Newtype senses and instinct easily slices the remaining simulated enemies into crackling chunks before the simulation ends.

"What has science done!?" Rossweisse wails jokingly to her partners.

The next few days go equally smoothly. You make it a point to bathe with your team, though you're obliged to wear swimsuits as Lady Mineva insisted on joining you. And seriously, who could say no to that? Certainly not you.

As another group event, you decide to hold a tournament: Super Smash Brothers Brawl, which is still one of the best games to play semi-competitively with friends. Brackets are drawn, and you do quite well with Zero Suit Samus and her air game and chaingrabs... though general agreement forbids you the use of your power suit pieces. Unfortunately for you both Miyu AND Catharine main Falco, which is a disastrous matchup for you. In the end Miyu beats you fairly comprehensively, and goes down to Catharine's Game and Watch, which punishes her reliance on the blaster for spacing.

The day before your operation begins, while you're still shadowing the freighter you plan to use as cover to approach Industrial 7, you manage to get Artesia alone.

"Yes?" she asks you contemplatively.

"So is Amuro actually keeping in touch this time, or has he been running silent?" you ask, taking a seat in her office.

Artesia cocks an eyebrow. "He dropped me a line. Apparently his friend Chan helped him weasel his way out of house arrest. He thinks he'll end up teaching at California base."

"That's good," you tell her. "Sounds like he's on his way to getting his shit together... and how about you?"

The young woman sighs, settling deeper into her own seat. "Nothing gets by you, does it?"

"More than you'd think, less than you'd hope."

"Alright," Artesia sighs. "I told him I still loved him, and that wasn't a lie. I'm just not sure what way I love him."

"So like the difference between a boyfriend and a surrogate brother?"

She eyes you warily. "Less than I'd hope was right. Yeah, I wish my relationship with the Crimson Condiment was more like how it was with Amuro before we started getting romantic, and since being that close is so difficult and has been for years now, it's hard to tell where we stand anymore."

June 11th, UC0084. The Valkyrie cut her engines two hours ago, and you've begun to close in on the exterior of the colony cylinder where your targets are still holding their hostages. One pregnant woman was allowed to leave, but the others have been short on food and water for the last two days.

You can feel the ship decelerating as Defrah fires off the powerful chemical thrusters at the bow and the forward sections of your engine blocks, as the technicians readying your suits brace to maintain their positions in the hangar bay.

"Five minutes to launch," Reiko's voice announces. "Prep catapults one and two."

"That's us," you tell your two teams, and the five pilots that will be penetrating the colony kick off towards their respective cockpit hatches.

On each Lilium's shield you spy a warhead rigged with wires, set to disperse beam-diffusing gasses on command. The gas isn't lethal to humans, and the building being held has a robust ventilation system. It may not be pleasant for the hostages, but it beats getting sucked out into space by a fair margin.

"Launching in three... two... one... launch!" you hear Noel announce, before the familiar burst of acceleration slams Haman's head into your chest and your whole body into your seatback.

"I'll control the apogee motors," you announce to Audrey as she stands by in her own cockpit.

"I'll give you a mark to fire the anchors," you tell Audrey as you approach the planned entry.

What you find, however, is that the chemical thrusters aren't quite up to the challenge without risking a heat spike that may be identifiable as a mobile suit.

"Shit," you mutter to your team. "We're not slowing fast enough... too much boost from the catapults."

"Can we check with Carya and Rosse?" Haman asks nervously.

"No," Audrey replies. "Can't guarantee transmission security."

If you're coming in too fast you bleed speed or come around for a second attempt. Depending on the amount of fuel we have, the possibility for us to circle the colony is viable since we're invisible to censors.

Either way, pulse the chemical thrusters briefly above the 'danger zone' too slow our descent. Insure the radiators do not exceed the recommended limit ALICE has given us.

You flash a quick hand signal to the Viola and Sericea, where the Sisters and Rosse have noticed your problem: two fingers, pointing onward past the planned entry point, then hooking "down" towards the colony. A thumbs-up shows you that they got the message: probably because they're having the same issue keeping their throttle up but their heat signature down.

Moving onward and upspin, you locate a smaller cargo bay, which allows you access into the colony. You signal for Audrey to fire the anchors, which help arrest your momentum. They strain against the force of your suit, and you try your best to point as many verniers against your previous vector, and finally the tension dissipates. Audrey retracts the wires, pulling your tandem machine to the side of the colony, and you see Rossweisse to your right doing the same.

Using only your attitude thrusters, you and Carya ease your machines into the cargo bay.

On the colony interior, you find that your unplanned course change has placed you a full kilometer away from your target. Carrina ponders for a moment before placing a hand against your machine's chest.

"We could move up under the stealth systems, or move in fast and loud," Carrina muses aloud over the contact link. "Or we could separate and strike from the air. Your call... but I like the airstrike idea. At least so far as it takes to disperse the gas."

If we fly we generate heat...

If we stay on the ground we run the chance of being intercepted and come under a grunt rush...

Hm. Split the difference. Have a Ikebanana fly with it's stealth system active dispersing the chaff. Have the other go to ground and wait. When the unit flying in the air calls that the chaff has been dispersed, the unit on the ground moves in.

If the air unit comes under attack, the ground unit can reinforce or snipe the attack. No reason to reveal our full strength just yet.
>>
I have to ask this as I can't remember when they're first deployed, but when exactly do decoy balloons come into play?
>>
>>35462406
“Alright,” you decide. “Switch to stealth operation mode on my mark, then make a leap towards the central axis of the colony. Separate midair, drop the beam dispersal gas right on their heads, and hit 'em while they're blind.”

“Got it, Dom.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

“Affirmative.”

Your fingers find the relevant switches on your control panels, and you wait for the precise moment.

“Three... two... one... mark.”

In unison your Lilium and Carrina's Viola activate their stealth systems, sending a ripple through the air like a midsummer mirage, a faint shimmer and a trace of ionization. It signals that you've just jammed all conventional sensors and most communications within eight kilometers, effectively blinding any other military forces... except for you. Your machines vault into the air, letting your specialized Minovsky scanners tell you when the ideal height has been reached before hitting the studs that prep your half of the Lilium for separation.

“Separation!” you announce.

“Separation, aye,” comes Audrey's response as she hits her own control studs. In midair your Lilium separates from her Iris. The arms and shoulders of your own machine tuck down and under the greatly-shortened torso, and the forwardmost section of your suit's chest flips up like the nose of a fighter. The wing binders fold into flight position, and your right arm tucks your grenade launcher into a magnetically-charged latch that has been revealed below your cockpit hatch. The shield you carry rotates into position to provide a smooth body to properly utilize the waverider principle. The Viola, you're aware, is doing the same.

In about a second and a half the attackers are ready to go, and follow shortly after the Iris and Sericea, which needed only to rotate their legs into a position for stable flight.

As your fighters scream towards the confused GMs, you and Carrina release the gas right on target, detonating the shells around the target building. This creates a huge amount of confusion among the insurgents piloting the suits, and the one you'd suspected had a beam rifle of some sort tries to fire it only to find its shots diffused almost completely by the compound. Those few stray blasts impact the far side of the colony, causing only minor, superficial damage.

Your team loop back around at speed to re-engage, your wingtips leaving contrails as you rip through the atmosphere of the colony. The four sonic booms are something the likes of which the colonists of Industrial 7 have no doubt never heard.

"Audrey!" you call your teammate. "We're going to ground so you don't have to use those grenades!"

"Roger," Audrey reports.

Haman pouts between your legs. "I'm bored." True, the fact that her funnels are a no-go must be frustrating, though her brain is needed to keep contact between your cockpit and Audrey's. So you give her a pat on the head as you combine with Audrey and drop into the gas.

A blast nearby seems to mean that Rossweisse made a daring move and nailed a GM with one of her grenades, though the GM is still up. In all likelihood she hit its shield, since she couldn't really tell what part of the mobile suit she was aimed at: only its location. You make a mental note of that particular limitation as Carrina shoots up a second mobile suit with her cannons before combining with Rossweisse and following your lead.

Behind you, one of the GMs made the smart call of moving out of the colored gas, and fires wildly at you as you emerge after him. He pulls his shield in to parry your right arm's beam saber, and draws his own... only to trade blows with your left arm's saber. Your slash cuts into his cockpit, while his merely fizzles against the Lilium's anti-beam coating.

A glance at your instruments tells you that there was no damage, though the ABC material was no doubt ablated at that spot. Another hit might not go as well for you.

Meanwhile, you notice that Audrey has fired off one of her wires at a GM, which she misses right between its legs... but that wasn't what she was aiming for. A parked car slides across the asphalt and connects with the back of the GM's knees, dropping it to one knee and shaking its pilot up.

The kneeling GM tries to bring its rifle to bear on you, but Audrey's wire is quick. Realizing that the wire's clamped down on his rifle the GM's pilot releases it, allowing Audrey to recover it with her wire and grip it with her subarm's manipulators. She begins firing it on the next closest target as you advance on the panicking GM pilot as he frantically fumbles for a grenade. But you're having none of it: a slash to the arm and a stab through the chest and the GM is down for good, and you never even break stride. Iris' foot crushes the GM's head underneath your machines' combined bulk in an explosion of sensor fragments and other robotic viscera.

On the other side of the street Carrina downs a third GM the same way, and Rossweisse manages to grab its rifle, firing as their sister machines advance on the final GM with you.

A hail of 90mm rounds leave deep puckers in the GM's armor, severing servos and cracking through thruster nozzles until you and Carrina cross swords somewhere inside his chest, thoroughly eviscerating whatever might have been left.

As the reddish smoke disperses, you can see the carnage: all four GMs are down. There's hardly anything left that even looks remotely functional.

“That went well,” Haman muses somehwat uncomfortably.

You feel some concern from Audrey. “More like an execution than a battle.”

“I dunno,” you tell them. “We did the job, the hostages are safe. That SHOULD be the only thing that matters, shouldn't it?”

“Maybe you're right,” Haman admits. “But still, what would you think of me if I helped you do all this without feeling anything?”

You don't really have an answer, and you can tell she doesn't expect one.

The Valkyrie moves in soon after to assist with looking over the hostages and to coordinate with the local police. Reiko and Catharine go with Karen to deal with the cops and mayor of the colony, while your other bridge crew focus on recovering your machines. There are congratulations all around, and you make sure to show some appreciation for the maneuvering Defrah pulled off to keep you hidden long enough to actually have a shot.

Walking the streets, your uniform seems to draw some stares, but you're honestly okay with that. Instead of dwelling on it, you find Serana Karn, Natalie Bianchi, and Lady Mineva, who have volunteered to help Artesia check the hostages' medical condition.

Artesia smiles as you approach, but you're caught off guard when Mineva gets into a shoving match with a young boy, about her age.

Reaching one arm under both of Mineva's, you lift the girl up off the ground and set her down arm's length from the boy... one of your arm lengths, of course, so they're now a pretty good distance apart.

"Okay," you tell them both sternly, causing the boy to shrink away a little. "What's this all about, then?"

"She pushed me!" the boy insists.

"Because you stepped on my foot!" Mineva fires back.

You shake your head... seriously, kids these days.

"And did either of you think to apologize?"

Neither of them seems to have done that, given the looks on their faces.

"So come on now, apologize. Both of you."

Mineva goes first, albeit reluctantly. "I'm sorry for pushing you."

"I'm sorry for stepping on you," the boy replies. "I didn't mean to hurt you at all."

"So do you think you can be friends now?" you ask the pair of children. They look skeptically at each other, but eventually nod.

"Great. See, now you're being the kind of people I knew you could be. Doesn't it feel so much better making friends instead of enemies?"

"Kinda," Mineva replies sheepishly. "Sorry, Commander. I wasn't being very good, was I?"

You shrug. "I was worse when I was your age."

Suddenly, the boy's mother shows up, seemingly relieved to have found him. She's a pleasant enough looking woman, though something strikes you as sad about her. She looks at you with a little bit of fear, realizing you're with Titans.

"I'm sorry if my son was causing a stir, sir," she apologizes hastily. "Truly, I shouldn't have lost track of him like that."

You wave dismissively. "It's no trouble at all, ma'am. I'm just happy you found him again."

The woman seems a little relieved to find you so amiable, but is still in a hurry to leave as she takes her son by the hand. "Come on, Banagher. Let's go home."

"What's your name?" Banagher asks, resisting his mother's pull for a moment.

"M..." Mineva begins, before spotting Audrey walking by. "Audrey. And you?"

"Banagher Links," the boy replies. "See you again some time?"

"Mhm," Mineva replies, clearly not sure about whether she should say yes or not. "Bye!"

"Yeah? What is it?"

Audrey points at the Valkyrie. "We got a message from some Principality officer... I've never seen Carya so mad.

Reaching out with your senses, you find a massive, palpable ball of hate aboard the Valkyrie. The hatred there is as strong as you've ever felt before, and it's all coming from Carrina. Seriously, you wonder how the hell Oldtypes can't FEEL something like that, even at the level of some primative animal instincts.

“Stay here and wrap this up,” you tell Audrey as Artesia's gaze turns to the ship as well. “I need to get back to the ship. Now.”

You don't walk, you sprint to the Valkyrie, clamber up several decks, and arrive on the bridge. Your bridge crew has returned, and Karen stands front and center. Haman and Rossweisse are as far from Carrina as they can get, and you understand why: her anger is literally visible to your eyes as a pulsing, amorphous aura of black and violet flames that flicker across her body. Her appearance is composed, but inside she's nearly uncontrollably furious.

“And you must be the ever-so-talented Commander O'Hara,” a smooth voice greets you. The man on the main screen is well-muscled, with neatly trimmed brown hair and an aristocratic bearing. His eyes find yours briefly before he regards the assembled crew in its entirety.

“You are to be congratulated on your recent mission. Saving that many spacenoids from a false Zeon movement is a great service both to our cause and to the citizens of the colonies,” he finishes.

“Who are you, exactly?” Karen asks, in a voice that makes you wonder how many times she's asked the stranger that question before now.

“I am Colonel Ronan Voight, at your service, Captain Joshua,” the Colonel greets you with a small bow. “As of today, I am taking authority over the Principality remnants.”

You turn to Reiko and Catharine. The former merely shrugs. “He's patching the signal through a disused system of comsats,” Catharine whispers. “Can't get a lock on his location.”
>Questions for the Colonel? He seems to be in a mood to talk, but will you indulge him?

"I'll get straight to the point. Why expose yourself to us specifically, Colonel? There must be a reason as I doubt such an... illustrious figure as yourself would deign to co-conspire with the enemy unless he held all of the cards."
>>
>>35465466
You place a hand on Carrina's shoulder, trying to calm her if that's at all possible. She seems to notice your hand, and your eyes meet. A little of the pure, irrational hatred seems to dissipate, and the aura around her calms though it doesn't disappear. You suppose that'll have to do for now, though almost as an afterthought you wave to ALICE's terminal to indicate that you want this conversation recorded.

“And what business would the alleged leader of the Remnants have with us? You ask.

“Surely you can't be offering your cooperation,” Karen adds cannily.

Colonel Voight looks you straight in the eye, and even through a screen you can tell the man on the other side has a certain overbearing presence and gravitas in person. “I became the leader of the Principality remnants after my predecessor's freighter was ambushed by three gundams.” Yazan and Messa's team, you realize.

“He, like the others before him, made certain under-estimations and miscalculations. Most of these involved the interference of certain... 'exceptional' individuals.”

“And your point, Colonel?” Karen presses.

“My dear Captain, I will get to that when it is time,” Voight replies in a chiding tone, like a mother telling her child off for playing with their food. “For now let me say I merely wished to get a feeling for a few of those exceptional persons. To estimate the measure of the men and women who would be my fiercest enemies, so that I do not make the same mistakes as my predecessors.”

“You haven't changed, you snake-tongued bastard,” Carrina mutters mutinously.

“Ah, so that IS you, Miss Marseille,” the Colonel replies. “It's been so long since we served together. You've grown into quite a lovely...”
(1/2)
>>
>>35466121
“Can it,” Carrina snaps. “We're not friends. Not after what you did. If you had the balls to meet us in person I'd already have my hands around your neck.”

“Then it's well that I had the sense not to come in person,” he replies.

ALICE reappears on your screen and shows you something that makes your operators shift uneasily: not only is Voight recording this as well, he intends to broadcast it using the same commsats he's used to contact you.

>Keep him talking yourself, get him to slip up somehow (write in encouraged)
"Really? And how do you intend to accomplish that? You don't have the firepower to take on the federation's forces, which means you have to rely on the same use of weapons of mass destruction as Delaz did, which will only serve to further marginalize the paranoid political position. Ironic isn't it, that the hatred and oppression of spacenoids you strive against is largely a reaction to the atrocities of those who fight in the name of the principality."
>>
>>35466294
It's a series of old satellites scattered around the Earth Sphere. It basically functions as an anonymizer. It would take a while to develop a countermeasure.

"What super weapons are you cooking up, Doc? Surely nothing as cliche as another colony laser. Oh, I know, did you turn Axis into a colossal planet buster particle cannon? That'd be something new."
>>
>>35466145
"So what are your new plans?" you ask pointedly. "Surely not another ridiculous superweapon or a colony drop. Surely you've learned that those sorts of measures only ever backfire."

Voight nods. "Indeed. Though I'm disinclined to tell you our intended methods, we WILL re-establish the strength and independence and unity of the Principality. We strive to see the better ideals of Zeon spread once more."

You wish you could slap him through the screen, but sadly find yourself incapable, no matter how hard you focus your mind on it.

"And what about peace?" Reiko asks, to some general surprise. "There are kids, five or six years old, who don't even know what peace looks like... how can you expect them to take over for us when the time comes if all they know is your war?"

"None of our concern," Voight replies. "This generation is already lost to us. They are tired, unwilling to do what is necessary. It is for the strength of the generations yet unborn that we must fight: to show them an example of courage and self-sacrifice that will serve our species well in the centuries to come."

"So really," Karen presses, "Convenient for you that your 'predecessor' was intercepted by Titans on a tip earlier today. Otherwise it'd be damn hard to turn that grandiose vision into reality."

"Petty insinuations," Voight insists.

Carrina gives a short laugh. "Really, that's all you can do, isn't it? Wake up every morning and put on a mask of honor, then spend the day stabbing people in the back and advancing your own agenda through any means necessary."

If we say this, cut the "despite already having achieved that independence" line. Too easy for him to spin that by quibbling about how they weren't truly free while the Federation still were in a position to oppress them, or something like that.
>>
>>35467027
Why? the Republic of Zeon achieved independence in UC 58. It declared its war of independence as the principality in UC 79. 3 seconds before launching its general offensive.
>>
>>35466603
“So, you want the butchery of the 'War of Independence” to continue... for the children?” you ask sarcastically. “Not only that, but you can write off whole generations for preferring peace to war?”

Colonel Voight frowns. “I would have hoped you would understand me better, Commander.

“You don't deny that you're basically killing innocents to make a point?” Defrah asks, backing you up.

“... I embrace that role.”

Fucking. Jackpot.

“ALICE?” you ask the AI cheerfully. “How's the broadcast going?”

“Rather well, Commander,” she responds in a sweet, satisfied tone. “The story has been picked up by major news networks in all the Sides and on Earth, in real time.” She switches a window over to show the news feed, and you see yourself standing on your own bridge. You wave playfully, and a few seconds later you see the little you on the screen repeat the gesture.

“You didn't.”

You nod with a cocky grin. “You underestimated us, dumbass. And now the whole Earth Sphere knows what you're all about, from your own stupid mouth.”

Colonel Voight sighs heavily. “Well played, Jester. Well played indeed. But this is far from over... I'll be coming for you.”

“We'll be ready,” you reply. “ALICE? Cut the broadcast.”

After a satisfied nod from Karen, ALICE does as you request. “Good girl,” you congratulate her, sticking a single knuckle up to a nearby monitor for the AI's avatar to fistbump.

Meanwhile, now that the conversation is restricted to your ship's bridge and the Colonel, another member of your crew feels like the time is right to speak her mind.

Because it would give him room to try to pick apart our argument. He could make arguments about how they were independent in name only, and the Federation were still oppressing them. I didn't want to give him that chance.

"So," Carrina tells you. "You've been wondering what my beef is with the Colonel?"

"It's crossed my mind," you admit. "You comfortable talking about it here?"

"I want you to know," she replies. "And I want him to know you know. I used to buy into his act, you know. I was young, and obedient, and he was quite the gentleman. I was taken with him."

"You and your sister were..."

Carrina glares at him hard enough he shuts up. "The first time I ever said no to him, he tried to force the issue, if you follow." Around the room, you can feel your teammates' mood shifting towards anger as the implication sets in.

"It was the same night we found out we were Newtypes," Carya adds, briefly resurfacing. "I fought him off, and Catrina felt it and came to my side. We each gave him a massive black eye... and he figured it out. How she knew to come running."

"And he sent you to the labs," you finish quietly, your fists clenching tight enough that the nails cut into your skin a little.

"And that's where my sister died. It all traces back to HIM."

The bridge is quiet for a moment.

“So Ronan, there's something I want you to know,” Carrina announces in an even voice, though you can feel her anger hasn't abated. “Now that I know you're alive I'm going to find you and impale you on the tip of my shield ass-first like a finger puppet, and it will only be a FRACTION of what you deserve for what you did to us. So pray to whatever god you hold dear that you die a quick death before I catch up with you, because if you don't people will sing songs of your suffering for GENERATIONS.”

The Colonel seems unable to respond, so ALICE simply kills the feed entirely.

That was... quite an ultimatum.

You're especially popular in Industrial 7, where a lot of people recognize your face.

The Republic government mentioned your team and you by name in their official response to the broadcast, praising you (and absolutely not praising Titans) and condemning the remnants. Cima made sure to play up the more "noble" qualities of you and yours.

The Federation forces hold you in fairly high esteem.

Titans is afraid. They're not used to powerful soldiers being popular among the general public.

Your team got a laugh out of it at the Principality's expense, and your other assorted crewmembers already held you in high regard, but now it's even better.

MSV Chronicle "Johnny Ridden" he and Shin Matsunga are broing it up stopping some mad scientist right about now.

Oh hey, that's right, we've got Base Jabbers. Feels kind of redundant now that we've got transforming suits. We need to do some work with the non-transforming ones. Maybe testing equipment packs on the Mark II, since Hearts said it was closer to the Hazel than the canon Mark II. I'd kill to get some working Hrududu units.

Hey, speaking of transforming suits, can the Ikebanas combine in flight mode without having to transform? I'm thinking of something like the G-Fortress on the Double Zeta. It honestly wouldn't have much practical purpose over flying separated, but I think it would look cool.

I want that goddess on the head unit.

I just realized: We referred to ALICE on-air. Unless she edited that out, her developers now know that we're in contact with her. That could cause problems.

Or a girl name or nickname Alice.

Well, a look at our crew register will show there's no one named Alice on the bridge crew. Maybe they'll assume it's a nickname. But I wouldn't count on it. Dr. Roots and Dr. Carol are paranoid people.

Yeah, like it won't take three seconds to edit our crew manifest.

As in, this is probably something that already happened offscreen, because it's kind of obvious (and proper procedure, at that).
