Your minions lay on the floor, dead. No, unconscious. Wait, why were you calling them minions? The black glove offered to you swept away those thoughts, causing your heart to quicken in your chest, your breathing accelerating, until it was all you could hear. Panic, fear, desperation.

In contrast, the strange woman before you quite clearly had her breathing controlled. Her chest slowly rising and falling, controlled and concise. Her other hand at her waist, her positioning concealing the pistol on her hip, tranquilizer darts. A vision fills your mind of her drawing it before you even have time to scream, and placing one of them in your neck, no, your chest? They could puncture clothing easily enough. But would they efficiently deliver the tranquil-

Her black gloved hand slides around from her waist, your breath catches in your throat. She takes a step forwards, bringing her hands together. Your eyes close. A muffled clap. The sound resounded within your ears. All that was left was your confused breathing, as you opened your eyes to see her smile at you.

You could feel the warmth of her hands, even through the gloves, as they landed on your shoulders. "I need you to be calm." Refined. British. Her ice-like blue eyes looked into yours "Can you do that for me?"

You take a deep breath, the cold winter air filling your lungs, closing your eyes as to attempt to calm yourself. You draw yourself in, and in, and in, reeling it all back inside of yourself, like reeling in a net or a fishing line. The cold air left your dry red lips. Opening your eyes, you look back to your.....savior? Assailant? You were unsure at this point, if she wanted to kill you, or disable you, she could have done it easily.

Her smile widens, those red lips open for a moment, as if to say something. However, it quickly turns to a scowl, her gloved hands pressing you into the wall, her body following. With your back against the cold wall, and your front warmed by hers. Her heart beat was accelerating, you could feel it through her dress shirt, as her chest pressed into your shoulders. Confusion flooded your system for a moment, until you heard the sounds of combat boots crackling through glass on the other side of the wall.

Craning your head upwards, you look for a moment at her anxious face. Noticing your eyes, her smile returned. Moving her gloved hand up to her lips, you could hear a very quiet, but very distinct "Shhhh" come from her lips.

The sound of boots slowly faded into the distance, but even so, you could feel the strange woman's body tense underneath her clothing, ready to spring at any minute. After a few minutes more, one of her companions rummages inside one of his pockets, drawing out a small orb. Taking a small breath in, he slides down the wall, rolling it into the building.

After a few seconds, the two men accompanying the woman pressing against you detach from the wall. With a sigh of relief, which you could feel resonate in her entire body, her hands pushed her off of the wall. Looking at you, she began to speak in hushed tones.

"You have a lot of people looking for you, some of them, wouldn't be human, as you may have seen."

You first had thought through her voice she was fully British, but after more careful analysis you could detect a hint of Russian as well "My....Employer, can guarantee your safety. The people who took down those aliens are, from our information, eager to find something, or someone to fight the Aliens. An.....asset, such as yourself, would be too highly prized in their arsenal for them not to use you, our benefactor can also make sure you will not be put in any danger you do not agree to."

Her white teeth bit into her red lip, the contrast making it all the more notable, her blue eyes scouring the current surroundings "It's not safe to speak in length here, could you accompany us back to our temporary base of operations?"

Indecision clouded your mind. They had attacked your min- friends. Friends, they were your friends, not minions. They had attacked your friends, but they didn't attack you. She had called you an asset in the conversation, and her mysterious employer wasn't exactly making you feel very comfortable. But, on the other hand, if they had wanted to kidnap you, they could have done so twenty times over by now, even if you tried running she could pump you full of tranquilizer. Thoughts flooded your mind about the possibilities, too much to handle in such a small amount of time.

The sound of one of the large men's fancy shoes against the pavement, as he turned the corner of the building to look out broke you out of your thinking. Disregarding thoughts of evil Russians and British people, you nod to her. You could see her body visibly relax as you agree to go with her.

Her gloves fingers point to the east, motioning for her comrades to move with her, you begin to walk with them. However, after a few seconds the sound of a gunshot rings through the air, followed by a dull thud. One of them men who had been covering you was on the floor, a large hole straight through the back of his head, the front of his face an explosion of gore, disfigured beyond belief.

Your feet were rooted to the spot. You couldn't move. Fear gripped you unlike ever before. Something felt missing near you. The world seemed to filled with strange white noise, you didn't even feel it as the woman scooped you off of the ground, carrying you like a Princess as she began to run into a nearby building. The other man staying behind the door, setting up his huge machine gun.

You curl up in her presence, a hole inside you as large as his. Your breathing shaky, unreliable. You could feel something else nearby, it slung from the sky, around the trees, it's presence strange.

It felt cold and sleek, efficient but....Alien. The woman, panting, almost out of breath, placed you down on the ground, speaking quickly "The helicopter should be arriving soon, it seems they have not followed us, something we should be thankful for."

But, despite that, you felt uneasy. Whatever IT was, it was hovering right above her. Your eyes deceived you, for you could only see air above her blond hair. Swallowing the built up saliva in your mouth you...

You knew exactly what you had to do, and how to do it. Grabbing your new friend by the hand, you pull her towards the ground, shock crossed her face as she was sent hurtling towards the ground. The strange being appearing almost out of nowhere, it's tendrils attempting to grab what was no longer there.

Your hand slid down her toned leg, the cold metal pressing against your fingers, you pulled up the pistol, your other hand quickly switching the safety off as you slammed it into the little green marker it's strange alien maw. The trigger was pulled, even before you knew it. The bullet passing through, into it's insides.

Almost instinctively, you grab the woman on the floor, pulling her behind a nearby tree as the strange monster whirs in the air, some sort of green fluid, no, gas, began to spurt out of the two holes you made in the robot. You could feel something welling up inside it, it's propulsion system whirring as it began to take flight. Ducking behind the tree, you pressed your back up against it.

The woman was starting to get up, but you pressed her back down with your foot. Just in time, as the strange machine which searched for you vanished in a flare of green light and shrapnel. The surrounding area lit up with the strange unnatural light, the nearby trees, including yours, being shredded by the shrapnel.

The sound of metal on metal hit your ears, after the sound of the explosion faded away. That would be it's body falling upon the ground. Taking a step forwards out of cover to ascertain the situation, those black gloves gripped into your shoulders, pain flaring in them.

"What the bloody hell was that?" Pinning you against the tree, you could feel her desperation, not only through her words, but what were you to answer her with?

"I-I just had a feeling" You start with, you were unsure of what really happened yourself "I just knew it was there, okay?"

She looks at you skeptically for a moment, before a small look of realization hits her. Her lip got bitten into for the second time today, her eyes drifting to the left. They quickly returned, as her hands clasped around your left hand, the one holding the gun "Next time, give me a bit of warning please." you don't see much point in resisting her at the moment, so you let her take the gun from your fingers.

The woman goes back to chatting onto her radio, you could hear a few questions being raised about her squad mates. You stayed beside the tree, without much to do you simply waited. The time passed quickly, your thoughts drifting over what had just happened, how the man had died, how you intuitively drew her pistol and used it without fault.

She turned, a sigh, not a relaxed sigh, one born of irritation and frustration passed through her lips.

"We're going to be here for a little while, so this would be a good time to ask any questions you might have, I'll try to answer them as best as I can." Sitting on the grass in front of you, you follow suite and sit with her.

Congrats! Are you going to take on impossible ironman now?

Me, I just uninstalled Long War and intend to finally finish my Impossible run (been putting it off since it's so much fun) and start an I/I game (though if the number of times I've started I/I games after drinking late at night for the feels is any indication, it may be a while before I beat it...)
>>
>>35464675
Why get hung up on it though? From our characters perspective... we know nothing of X-com or Exalt.

We've been "rescued" by exalt at the moment. If they can get us out of here and help us find our parents... that's really all we want right?

If we had seen them gun down civilians or something or if they had killed our friends - Which after reviewing the stuff around on the last thread they did not. I'd be against it.

After 100 hours, I'm done playing it. The ending was satisfying, and picture related finished off the final boss with an 18 damage psi feedback. It was amazing. Nothing else I really want to accomplish at this point unless I plan to get all the achievements (screw that continent one).

I thought about installing the Long War but then I read about it. Nope, nope, nope.
>>
"Who do you work for? Why did you attack my friends? What the hell is happening?" You burst out, questions too long unanswered

"A man named Chun Guo, he's a big conglomerate leader in China, but he's just a front for a larger company, and even then we had to go through several people before that to get to him, I don't have any specific names other than that."

"As for your....friends, they seemed to be protecting you, you were our main objective for this mission, we didn't want to take any chances, especially not with the strange military that opened fire on us before."

"What the hell is happening....." She repeated your question "All I've been told is that aliens exist, they've been on this planet for a little while, watching and observing, suddenly they attacked, all over the world, this was just one of the sites." Sighing, she looked to the left "We've been scavenging some bits and helping out a few people with the problems created, we haven't had much of a goal from Chun Guo aside from to scavenge, until today."

"And that's where you came in, we were given a bit of an information profile on you, then told we had to move as quickly as we can. Only five of us actually managed to get to you, two of us got picked off by those strange military people when we arrived at the scene, scavenging went out of the window, so we found you, and you know the story."

>You have 2 more questions until pick up
>>
>>35464787
>>35464787
Hmm.
1) Hire lots of soldiers.
2) Forget about having enough interceptors in the first few months. Get used to Bradford's voice reprimanding you for not intercepting UFOs.
3) Damage from explosives is HIGHLY variable (I found this really annoying and went in and modded the damage on grenades to be about 1.75x the standard).

I don't want to derail this awesome quest though, so may I recommend >>>/vg/83050004 for more tips?

Prepare for a long and painful haul, but it's very worthwhile. Be wary as alien pods spawn randomly on the map and sometimes spawn right in front of you straight out of the LZ , thankfully that's being addressed next LW update. SHIV's are godlike and definitely worth having. Half-cover has been buffed and is now not a death sentence and is more reasonable to park your troops there. Flashbangs are a must. And Definitely play Normal with Cinematic Mode to ease yourself in. It's a cruel mistress but so worth it.

Watching Beaglerush's videos on Long War and XCOM in general is also a good place to learn tactics and strategies as well.

But yeah, the Anon who posted a link to /xcg/ is a good place to go from there!

This. On the smaller maps, pods easily can overlap with each other, resulting in "clown carring", where a single move can cause near every enemy on the map to launch themselves at you simultaneously. You *will* need to fall back from some missions after making just one move away from the LZ.

"What does Chun Guo want with me?" You ask, unsure of whether you want to hear the answer or not

"Chun Guo stated you had quite a few......talents, your stunt you pulled that totaled a few houses in your neighborhood, not to mention your initial talents. I was skeptical at the time, but after today I'm not sure...." Her eyes drifted upwards, as the sound of chopper blades sliced through the air, filling the area with the almost deafening sound.

"As for where we're going, there's a small base up in London where we can take shelter, we won't be interrupted by alien or man there" She smiled, offering her gloved hand to you. Taking it, she pulls you to your feet. Stumbling a little, catches you by the shoulders "Steady there. I suppose you're not used to this are you?"

You nod, standing up properly. After sitting around for so long, the adrenaline had filtered out of your system. That also meant you were freezing, the cold air getting to you through your school shirt. The air rippling from the helicopter wasn't helping at all, as it slowly descended onto the grass. Taking you by the hand, your new friend leading you into the rapidly emptying hold.

The well equipped soldiers filtered out as you walked up, you didn't care to see how they surveyed the area, exhaustion taking you. After a few minutes, you were sitting next to the woman, who you still hadn't gotten the name of, even after all this time. The hulk of the Seeker was dumped into the hold, as the various men and women began to strap themselves in.

A relatively lithe man, covered in medals stepped out of the cockpit, grabbing the woman next to you impatiently. You could feel the disdain oozing off of his form. Gritting her teeth, she whispered into his ear a few words, beyond your hearing. But it was something to do with you, which you were sure. Taking off her gloves, she took a large coat from the man's shoulders, much to his irritation.

Sitting back down, she

1/2
>>
>>35466311
Draped the coat like a cloak around you both, you didn't realize, but she was wearing just about as much as you. It being October, and deep into the night, it was freezing. With the heat of her body and the coat, combined with your exhaustion, sent you fast to sleep. Your dreams were visited by a figure your minds eye had seen before, a strange being with an ornate helm, it's long lithe body covered with a simple purple robe.

But what were you dreaming of?
