You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

You’re on your back, you’re looking up at the night sky. The stars are framed by pillars of billowing smoke. Something crackles in the background, like laughter, like the stars are laughing at you. Your head swims and you can barely hear anything else through the ringing of your ears. Smoke. Where there’s smoke there’s fire.

Fire.

Your stomach churning, you roll over onto your palms, pushing yourself up. The room is a wreck. There’s very little ceiling to speak of, and a burning pyre stands where the table once sat. Various figures lie scattered amidst the wreckage, most of them groaning incognizantly. Behind the crackle of the flames and the drone of fire alarms, you can pick up flickers of distant screaming. Beside you –

Your hear twists in your chest. You scrabble back, toward the wall. Beside you, Tombstone is trapped under a fallen beam, his forehead smeared with blood and his eyes shut. He’s still breathing, but the wooden beam laid across his chest alive with a lashing, spreading flame.

You remember… you remember someone throwing something through the window, and then… boom.

Sharp, keening laughter fills your ears, and a sound like that of a jet engine cuts through you. Someone – someone standing on some kind of glider – descends into the room. Your head aches and the fire tears holes in your vision, but the knife-earned, long-limbed outline is unmistakable.

That’s the Green Goblin.

Just dropping in to say I have yet to read the threads from that time we met Typhon's experiments, and I fully expect you people to have fucked things up and bought shitty powers instead of upgrading our expecting ones, but I refuse to actually take part in such a toxic quest at this point.
It was nice reading the story of JJ so far, thank you for that Crusty, but I can't say that I'm having fun while trying to convince retards what the right option is and being shouted at for it.
Hope you manage to fix this shit in any case, maybe one day I'll come back if things improve.

>you tried

Now seems like about the time to be finding a nice window to catapult yourself through, but you can’t get Tombstone out of your head. If someone doesn’t help him out, the guy’s gonna burn to death. He’s a big guy (really, ridiculously big), but fire doesn’t care how big you are, it just eats and eats and eats, until you have nothing left.

Christ.

Concentrating on being invisible, you crawl over to the prone mafia boss, gritting your teeth and hissing involuntarily as the heat of the fire washes over you. It sputters and flicks its tongues at you, hungry, implacable, nightmarish, its yellows and dim blues seeming to twist in your brain, as though you can feel them already upon your skin, biting into you, turning your flesh to coal.

You hesitate. You can’t do it. You can do it. You can’t. You –

“Oh?” The Goblin has a voice like knives being sharpened. “Didn’t see you there, boy.”

He laughs, a careening sound that goes on and on, and you realize that you’re visible.

“Didn’t know Tombstone had a pet mutant.”

The sound of the glider peaks, and he streaks toward you, laughter tearing from his throat, like something being born.

I would like to point out that Oscop has crazy amounts of tech. If Goblin finds out we can turn invisible he could outfit his helmet with active sonar that would work just like our echolocation extrapolative. Our invisibility would then be useless.

You should be terrified. You are terrified.

But, beneath the terror, you feel a fever of violence peaking in your stomach, some surge of desperate anger filling you with adrenaline. You’re nobody’s pet.

You plant your feet, ball your fists, and your eyes flare like stars.

You’re not sure exactly what happens next. Everything’s suddenly a shade of blue, and you feel… uncorked. As if all the stress that had been pushing up against the walls of your skull suddenly had somewhere to go, and all that pressure just exploded out through your eyes, reaching out to punish whoever happened to be in front of you.

The Goblin’s expression doesn’t change – it happens too quickly. Something lances out of you, hurling him straight off his glider and into the opposite wall. Just about retaining your wits, you duck under the oncoming gadget, its bladed wingspan slicing a clean, clear outline into the wall behind you.

Your eyes hurt.

What was that? It was like… it was kinda like…

Old newsfeeds and scaremongering headlines flash through your brain. “Dangerous Mutant Teens” -- “Mutant Paramilitary Organization” – “so-called ‘superheroes’” -- “capable of projecting a beam of concussive force from his eyes”. You remember the pictures, the videos – the flash of red light and things just turning aside like magic.

Wincing at the sudden pain in your eyes, you stare experimentally down at the timber laid across Tombstone, pushing from somewhere in the recesses of your brain. A beam of bright, white-blue light topples the weight from atop him, sliding it across the floor.

Damn.

Gulping, you remind yourself that this is hardly the first, or the weirdest, time this has happened, and rush toward the door. Gotta find Remy. You make it out onto the landing outside when you hear disjointed, digitized laughter following in your footsteps, and turn to see a trio of bulbous, pumpkin-like gadgets floating through the air after you, Jack-o-Lantern faces billowing with eerie green fire.

Why? Why isn’t your danger sense warning you about all this?

You leap off the landing, twisting in mid-air. The laughter rakes on your ears, but your eyes are just fine – better than fine, actually, feeding that uncanny torrent of positioning and trajectory, laying out for you the paths of the oncoming lantern-gadgets. Concentrating on the pressure behind your eyes, you open your inner floodgates, and a flash of blue light slices them out of the air, flinging the hysterical devices back against the opposite side of the building, where they detonate into momentary bursts of acrid green fire.

Reaching out, you catch the chandelier in the center of the room, swinging off it. You soar through the air, landing deftly upon the bannisters leading up to the landing on the other end of the hall.

Whoa. That was interesting.

Finally afforded a moment to catch your breath, you glance down at the crowd below, most of whom appear to be huddled together in the center of the room. And now, of course, they’re all staring at you.

Eurgh. Someone once said that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, but someone probably wasn’t a filthy mutie.

You squint, and make out Remy among them. He meets your eyes and puts a surreptitious finger upon his lips. Which means, what, exactly? “Be quiet?” “Keep it down?”

Come to think of it… why hasn’t everyone just run away?

Well, you know when you’re not wanted. You’ve had plenty of practice with that.

And you’re willing to bet that an angry goblin is about to come tearing out via the opposite landing, intent on making you look like smeared pizza. You think you’ll pass on that, at least for toda–

It’s dim, but your danger sense snaps through you, urging you off your haunches. You push off, flipping backwards, and land just in time to see a set of razor-sharp, feather-like blades scythe through the bannister, embedding themselves deep into the stairwell below. Steadying yourself, you reverse back towards the wall behind you, but before you can look up to ascertain the nature of the threat, its back again – louder, this time, more insistent.

You feel the minute pressures in the flooring beneath you, in the wall behind you, as brick and mortar begin to crumble. Something metallic and sinuous bursts through the wall and makes to loop around you, but you’re half a second ahead of it, ducking beneath its length and rolling in a tight ball. You spring to your feet and –

It’s like a lash now. It –
>>
>(2/2)

You jump. You have to. You know it. You propel yourself straight over the landing, hitting the floor hard, a spear – a goddamn spear – slicing through your previous location.

The world blurring into mixed, frantic signals around you, you burst into one of the private rooms arrayed around the hall, your danger sense constantly murmuring to you. You make it to the window on the far side of the room when you suddenly feel the static in the air peak, electrons thrumming in excitement around you, and you hurl yourself aside as the window you were headed towards – and much of the wall around it – vanishes in an explosive burst of electricity.

You cough, dust settling on your tongue, and pull yourself up.

“We have him cornered.” Says a wry, elderly voice, echoing in from somewhere in the main hall.

You guess he’s talking about you.

>[X] INVISIBLE!

Breathe in. Breathe out. Calm.

You slip into the protective nothingness of invisibility, breathing out a sigh of relief when it actually works. With your danger sense going all screwy and the fire and the sudden eye beams, you thought your powers were starting to just turn on and off at random, like when you first got them. But the problem is an isolated one, you guess.

You jump a little bit out of your skin when the wall before you shudders, groaning pathetically as something on the other side tears through the plaster and stone. It vanishes, torn straight out of its roots, and the light of the chandelier is suddenly illuminating four separate silhouettes. You recognize most of them, but none of them are the sort of people you’d ever describe as ‘friendly’.

The skinhead with the sparking eyes and the vague halo of electricity.

The old man with the sleek flight-suit and attached wings.

The voluptuous woman with the four sinuous metal arms and the eyes like tar.

The crouched beast-man – who appears to have collected his spear (either that, or he has a spare).

They’re all News Names. People that turn up in papers in very close association with the words ‘heist’ and ‘criminal’ and ‘murder’. Supervillains.

A high-pitched whine fills the air, and the Goblin emerges from the opposite landing, streaking through the air on his glider.

“The little creature’s not gone, is he?” He pouts, his face an exaggerated, fiendish balance between momentary disappointment and constant glee. “I was hoping we could test the new stuff on him.”

Doctor Octopus stares up at him, nodding.

“He appears to have made his escape. Not that it matters – according to our sixth man, there are three other mutants in the building. Any one will do.”

Jack is a well known drug in the mutant market. I don't think that's what they are testing.

If these guys were with Creeper, he could haveeasily supplied some no name mutants for testing. Plus, Green Goblin's entrance, it seems to risky when Creeper had three of his own guys in there. What I'm getting at, I think the Sinister Six represent a new party here.

Wow you really do not like the sound of that. You imagine that Remy wouldn’t, either.

Against the urgings of your danger sense and its constant thrum, you follow the mismatched gaggle of absolutely terrifying individuals as they make their way back to the edge of the landing. If you’re remembering your supervillains, you count Green Goblin (duh), Doctor Octopus (ditto), Electro, Vulture, and… that guy… with the TV show? He used to be, like, a survival show star, or something, until Spider-Man beat his ass on live television and he got frustrated enough over it to turn himself into some kind of lion-man monster. You honestly have no idea what that guy’s name is, his show was dross.

That’s five. And apparently, they have a sixth man, which fits the standard Sinister Six M.O. You hope it’s not Sandman, that guy seems… extremely difficult.

Adjusting her tinted spectacles, Doctor Octopus nods in the direction of the opposite landing.

“I imagine one of us will want to finish off our competitors while they’re down.” Her arms reach out, grasping ahold of the bannister and hoisting her into the air. “I know it’s hard for some of us, but we should not be losing sight of our actual objective.”

Hunt-TV-man growls. Yeah, you agree – that was beyond contemptuous. Golden rule, lady.

Suddenly:

“That might be difficult, voman!”
>>
>>35504935
This is pretty much just sinister 6 muscling in on the jack trade. They are already producing it (we know from the last thread) and now they want to test something, but to make a point, because Goblin is fucking insane, they are trying to grab one of creeps folks. Or any crime boss's pet mutant, to test it on.
>>
>>35504959
Sooooo business as usual? I don't really know a ton about Marvel other than what cartoons and video games taught me.
>>
>(2/2)

You’d know that particular style of broken English anywhere.

Your danger sense screeches. You dive back as the landing – most of it, anyhow – explodes into a shower of mortar and electrical discharge. The Sinister Six – Sinister Five, right now – hurl themselves to safety, hunter-man leaping down to the hall below while Doctor Octopus propels herself straight up, those creepy tentacles of hers adhering to the ceiling. Electro and Vulture take to the air, hovering beside the Goblin.

On the opposite end of the hall, Geldoff emerges from the ruins of the meeting room, his index fingers stretched out and thumbs cocked back in mimicry of a set of pistols.

Ah, Geldoff, you are excellent.

“Bang!”

The Goblin pirouettes through the air, diving aside of Geldoff’s invisible arc of fire. A good portion of the wall behind him burns bright white and explodes into a hail of granular debris, lightning arcing through the blast in searing arcs. The Sinister Six are REALLY lucky that Geldoff is such a terrible shot.

You burst into motion as he takes aim for Doctor Octopus. Another sharp, electrical boom rocks the building, and you find yourself rolling to the side of one of the doctor’s metallic appendages as she hurls herself back down from her perch. Picking your way across the remains of the landing, you swing yourself over the twisted bannisters, adhering to the wall below.

Above, you hear deranged laughter fill the air, followed closely by the sound of yet another explosion, the hall momentarily lit in lurid green. This seems like about the right time to be getting everybody out.

You skitter down the side of the wall, jumping the last few meters. Above you, a cascade of flame roars out over the landing on the far side, moving like something possessed of a malign, hungry intelligence, twisting through the air to follow the Goblin as he swoops and whirls on that (admittedly extremely cool) gadget of his. You guess someone in that meeting could control fire.

Haha yes this is most certainly time to leave.

Slipping out of invisibility, you whistle sharply, waving your arms at the terrified cluster of civilians grouped throughout the hall.

“Hey! People! Time to get going!”

Momentarily, you consider barreling at them, contorting your face into an angry fit and declaring that “ooga booga imma mutie”, but they move pretty quickly, rushing for the exit in a great, torrential surge of black ties and sparkly dresses. Above, the explosive exchange rages, Geldoff’s power taking big explosive bites out of the building’s architecture. You can’t imagine that he and his pyrotechnically inclined assistant will last long against the entire Sinister Six, though.

Speaking, of where’s mister Six, anyho –

“JJ!” Remy comes pushing through the crowd, his brow arched gravely and an Ace of Hearts clasped between his fingertips (okay? You guess that’s his lucky card?). “You alright?”

>[X] You’re going to help Geldoff.

As much as you’d like, to… no. You’re not going to just get gone, are you?

You sigh, mostly at yourself, and turn back toward the heavily damaged side of the building where the Sinister Six are, for the most part, allowing the Goblin and Electro to take care of the business of returning fire, most of their other members apparently not all that at home in a shoot-out.

“I’m gonna help Geldoff.”

He works for a pretty terrible guy, but you’re not sure he deserves to die. You’re especially not sure that he deserves to die by sneering goblin man or creepy vulture gent or bigass metal tentacle woman. Seriously, death by Sinister Six seems like a pretty shitty way to go.

“Uh…” Remy echoes your sigh. “Who’s Geldoff?”

Honestly?

“Honestly, I’m not really sure.”

But he’s a human being, at least. And he doesn’t run around in a dumb animal costume laughing about maniacal plans and throwing crazy Jack-o-bombs everywhere.

“That so?” Remy seems to think for a moment, before rolling his shoulders and smiling almost secretively. The card in his hand blushes with a soft red glow. “You know, you’re alright.”

You hope so.

Fixing your gaze on Electro, you push at the dams behind your eyes. It feels like a weight loosening, drifting away, as though you’re purging a part of yourself you don’t need, or you just don’t want. The light streaks out and strikes Electro square in the chest, sending the supervillain careening straight into the wall behind him.

You feel multiple eyes turn toward you, and your stomach clenches. Your gloves burst as you feel your claws inching out through your skin, fangs splitting your gums.

“You want mutants?” I’m. Right. Here!”

Jack was Typhon's failed attempt to create a super-soldier serum based on Joshua Green's work. It was essentially supposed to imbue non-mutants with a specific X-gene activation, but he never got it 'right' until recently.

Joshua's original work wasn't narcotic or weaponized. He just wanted to use the adaptability of the x-gene to combat diseases and disorders.

Crusty.
What level of OPTIC BLASTS do we get to shout "BEHOLD, OPTIC BLAST" before unleashing a massive Optic Blast?
>>
>>35507276
OFB is capable of hitting multiple things close together since you don't target something specifically/hyper-focus on one thing, but a certain area (1cm to 30inch) - right?

So JJ could grab a handful of rocks a Blast them all like a shotgun? I want to do that with Geovision.
>>
>>35507429
we could do that with spare change and make it hail all up in this bitch!

Switch to something more suited for piercing than ball bearings before going into biological warfare - like bullets, or something.

Yeah I've been around that block a time or two. But then again at least Marvel tries, for the most part. DC wants me to believe that a guy who can do that can legitimately be threatened by anything, let alone a guy who's only super powers are having more money than God and severe autism.
