The mansion where Goyutomi Emi, Record-keeper of the Reincarnated Souls of Koshinto and Shinto faiths (or more specifically, non-Buddhist reincarnation) remains as you left it – surrounded in the soft darkness of Yomi, the underworld where the dead remain. Emi-sama herself, a fire oni-child, has just finished purifying your deity-touched soul, your true mikoto which lies in a pit in the center of this shadow of Tokyo. You didn't see what she purified from it, but you are absolutely certain that what you did get a glimpse of was your own deific soul, your true power, still sealed away from you you.

And it was huge.

Size among the spirits might not be a measure of their power, but their locations and their symbolism can be, and since your mikoto is residing in a vast pit of destruction where the Tokyo Radio Tower stands, you can hazard a guess that your actual mikoto is something to be avoided by anyone not interested in a summary death. Emi-sama's calling upon Izanami, the First Woman, the mother of Amaterasu-Omikami, Susano-Oh, and Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto, to assist her in the purification ritual was equally fearsome. Which is when you remember the paper charm that Emi-sama gave you to protect you from the corruption of Yomi.

“Emi-sama, since my mikoto is residing in Yomi, will it be corrupted again?” As you assist her as you both walk down the hallway, for she exhausted herself when she performed the ritual, she shakes her head.

“No, Ryuu Ryukusa. While your mikoto may remain here prior to its reincarnation, it is much to strong to be corrupted by the mere influence of Yomi. It would take the efforts of a great Kami or a major Kamuy to do such a thing.” You have a strong suspicion of exactly who would do such a thing, and in a memory of a past life, you may even have discovered how it was done. You help her sit at her desk and she sighs softly. She looks a great deal more haggard and somewhat ill, bags under her eyes and shaking slightly.

Picking up a small brass bell, she rings it twice, the clapper thudding heavily against the side of the bell, giving it a flat, short tone rather than a clear ringing sound. The ox-headed gozu oni walks in, holding a tray with hot tea and three cups on it. He sets it down and noiselessly leaves the room without paring you a glance. Emi pours tea for you, then herself, the scent of orange blossoms and sharp lemon grass wafting from the cup. She sips it slowly and relaxes even further, her tiredness and ill visage fading quickly.

“The touch of the Mother of the Sun, the Storm, and the Sea is very harmful, even with the proper rituals and practices. Even the First Man could not escape it entirely.” You nod and accept the tea but do not drink it. “So, as for your promise....” The young oni-girl puts on her spectacles, and them opens up another book and sets it aside, grinding some ink into her ink-stone and wetting her brush. Emi speaks as she writes:

“I, Goyutomi Emi, do promise to one Ryuu Ryukusa, that no turmoil, harm, forced consequence, compulsion, or discomfort will come of the purification ceremony performed by Myself, Goyutomi Emi, on the behalf of Her, Ryuu Ryukusa, at the behest of Ryiekatsumoun, in payment of a dept owed by Myself, Goyutomi Emi, to one Ryiekatsumoun, for services rendered to Myself, Goyutomi Emi, by Her, Ryiekatsumoun; this document and statement provide Proof of Boon Granted upon Goyutomi Emi's part to Ryiekatsumoun, as accepted by Ryuu Ryukusa and witnessed by Same.”

She takes out the expensive looking pen and signs her name upon the side of the delicate looking washi paper, and then offers the pen to you.

[+] Water Eyes.

Not knowing why the use of her personal pen is significant here, but presuming for your own sake that it has something to do with the fact that the pen is not of Yomi (which makes it likely the ink is also not of Yomi) you accept the pen. Everything sounded correct – five discreet descriptions of what will not go wrong, use of your name and her name and Rie's name in the right places, and the description of the boon being granted to Rie by Emi but used for you.

Better safe than sorry in places like this though.

“Would you mind translating for a stupid lizard such as myself, please, Emi-sama?”

She blinks , and then reads over it carefully. “Well, the short form is that I used Rie's boon to purify your mikoto....hmn, I'd better add that in.” She makes a few strokes and the words politely move so that she can add the new ones in and still have it look perfectly neat. “There.” She turns the book back to you, allowing you to read the amended version.

“I, Goyutomi Emi, do promise to one Ryuu Ryukusa, that no turmoil, harm, forced consequence, compulsion, or discomfort will come of the purification ceremony performed by Myself, Goyutomi Emi, on the behalf of Her, Ryuu Ryukusa, at the behest of Ryiekatsumoun, upon the Mikoto of Ryuu Ryukusa as yet not reincarnated, in payment of a dept owed by Myself, Goyutomi Emi, to one Ryiekatsumoun, for services rendered to Myself, Goyutomi Emi, by Her, Ryiekatsumoun; this document and statement provide Proof of Boon Granted upon Goyutomi Emi's part to Ryiekatsumoun, as accepted by Ryuu Ryukusa and witnessed by Same.”

“Normally I have Ofume-san proof these for me, but he's currently occupied elsewhere in the building. Anyways....i used Ryiekatsumoun's boon to purify your un-reincarnated mikoto, while you watched, with Ryiekatsumoun's permission, absolving my debt to Ryiekatsumoun. You signing it means you witnessed it all and you accept my promise to you.” She smiles and leans back, sipping the tea slowly. “You have to use my pen because if you use Yomi-ink it carries a stain of you with it and that isn't something you want to have in yomi if you can help it. There have been times when powerful youkai or demons have come looking for such things.”

Nodding, you look at it with Water eyes: everything crawls in your vision, your sensitivity to the mindsets and psyche of all within your vision opening you to the fundamental corruptness of Yomi itself, and the pervasive, powerful influence of the First Woman, a dead goddess who yet lives on. You quickly shut those eyes, feeling utterly sick to your stomach. Not that you let one iota of this show, save for a momentary tremble in your fingers.

You sign, using your full given name, and turn the book back to her, as well as returning her lovely pen. “I don't think I just consigned myself to Yomi just yet.”
>>
>>35543356
“Well, technically your mikoto is already here, so even if you did, you – as Ryuu Ryukusa – could still leave.” Looking at you seriously, the pretty scholar oni-girl frowns faintly. “I wouldn't make a habit of coming here, Ryuu Ryukusa. Even with your purified energies and balanced nature, you could still come up against some very dangerous things.”

“Believe me, it wasn't my intention. Your kind assistance and your generous nature have been invaluable....”

I was thinking we should remove the thumb(s) from his sword hand(s). Yui said he's no good at oni slap-fighting so without his sword he won't be able to defend himself very well. He's a sadistic SOB so I'm guessing there are plenty of people in his clan with scores to settle against him.

Before we do anything to him though, we should ask Yui what things are likely to get the True Dragon he serves involved.

You know, I don't think bodily harm would add much more to the humiliation of being beaten in a challenge before his kin by a "weakling" (in their eyes) dragonette.

“You've been incredibly gracious given my unannounced arrival. Rie-sama wasn't very forthcoming about what she was doing when she dragged me here.” You decide it might be impolitic to explain she almost literally dragged you here. “Is there anything I can do for you, withing my scope of capability? Considering all the obligations I have, it might not be wise to offer, but I think it would be rude not to at least make the offer.”

To your surprise she nods at your apologetic reference to your obligations, but opens a drawer in her desk anyways. “If you could deliver this to Hebiki Akari, I and the writer of the letter would be most grateful.” The folded letter is in fact bearing your best friend's name, and it looks like an official document of some sort, though the writing is archaic, almost indecipherably so. “I would consider that enough to assuage any need for recompense. It's best not to mention such things here, as that can get one into very deep trouble if ~they~ over here. She nods her head at the doorway, presumably meaning her two assistants.

As you tuck the letter into ~Nowhere~, you glance at the closed door, but with the silence of Yomi, you'd be surprised if they couldn't hear everything if they turned the attention to you. They didn't seem very interested as yet....though that may change very soon. “I will keep all of your advice in mind, Emi-sama.” You hear a familiar shouting at the back door. “Ah, I see that the cat wants in.”

It takes a good half-minute before Emi-sama's servant opens the door, and Rie, in her human form, is ushered in. “Bye Emi.” She grabs you by the hand and starts dragging you towards the door. While the bull-headed oni watches her suspiciously.

As Rie-sama starts pulling you towards the door, you gently break the hold she has of your wrist and reverse it, taking her hand in yours lightly, holding her hand rather than gripping her wrist. She looks startled at first but turns around, looking at you quizzically, her ears twitching and tails swaying slowly. You take a step back and turn, moving closer to Rie-sama, but you bow deeply to Emi-sama. “I appreciate you for all your difficult work, Emi-sama.” Emi stands up and bows back, while Rie waits, not impatiently, but clearly unimpressed by all the effort. When you turn around and continue to follow her she immediately takes the lead again, and starts you down the hallways towards the front door.

And makes an immediate left, up the stairs to the second floor.

And then a right, into one of the bedrooms which is slightly less cluttered than the rooms downstairs, but still filled with huge amounts of furniture, personal items, decorations, plaques, paintings, kitchen utensils, an unexploded bomb from the war against China, what looks like and you certainly hope is not a Muramasa blade, some bowls and cups, and there is the window.

I got a chance to look at one of Muramasa's phantom blades. The craftsmanship was excellent, but more than that, it felt like a big "FUCK YOU I DO WHAT I WANT" to swordmaking traditions, with the way he experimented with the hamon.

[X] Ask Rie if that was in fact a Muramasa blade back there.
[] “Why, exactly are we going out the second story window?”
[] Ask Rie to wait a moment, you have to get something.

While she's leading you in a rather weird set of ways for leaving the mansion, much like any cat, the sight of a legendary blade is enough to make any dragonette stop. Not always for the better, but in this case you think it's safe enough to pause.

“....Rie-sama, was that what I think it was?”

“The bomb?”

“No, the sword.”

“Right, the bomb. Yep. This is the Room of Things That Are Not Yet Going to Be Used.” Well, that wasn't fuckin' ominous as all heaven or anything. “It's the one that Matsudaira Geki killed the guys he was reading with at the library.” She pauses, half in, half out the window. “Are you gonna to steal it? 'Cause I'll wait, if you want.”

Muramasa blades are bloodthirsty, murderous, and demanding, and dangerous to every level of being, from mortal to half-spirit to kami and beyond. They often are said to drive their owners mad or to suicide.

- We already have a magical sword. (Okay, she can unleash its full potential only in a Barrier, but still...)
- Muramasa blades are old enough and feared enough to become yokai themselves, bloodthirsty yokais that care not where the blood flows from.
- Stealing from the dead is generally a very bad idea, and not only Karma-wise.

Consider the following: That crazed Nekomata, who can seemingly enter and leave Hell at will, didn't touch the blade.

[X] Rie-sama, why are you calling it a bomb?

Hesitation is natural when you're dealing with a Great Treasure – maybe not an Imperial Treasure, but this is a weapon forged by a human that is a threat to anything that it is used again, including gods. On the other hand, this is a God's Eye Nekomata who apparently has agendas, and wants your help. “Rie-sama, do you know what that is?” You point to the explosive device in the corner, leaning precariously against a wall.

“Yep. 's a bomb.”

You blink. “then why are you calling that sword a bomb?”

“Because that's what it's name is. 'Blade Which Demands All At Once To Die.' Bomb is lots shorter.” Her logic is infallible, you suppose.

“No, Rie-sama, I'm not stealing that particular bomb from Yomi.” You consider just a moment more, and she lets you. “But thank you for the opportunity. It was definitely not boring.” That earns you a momentary fanged smile.

“Okay.” she clambers out the window, still holding your hand and waits for you to join her on the eaves. Doing so, you can see the alley you arrived in, something you couldn't see from the road that lead to the mansion. Cat shortcut, apparently. She leaps, and you immediately leap after her, both of you landing lightly on your feet, and walking through the dead lawn towards the gate.

“Rie-sama, I know you said you'd help me, but this seems like a bit much.” Though you're nit quite sure how you would have coped with whatever spiritual corruption your mikoto was suffering from, you're fairly certain you could have coped eventually. You family is made up of remarkable people, who would not hesitate to help you in a heartbeat. Which isn't necessarily a good thing all the time, but so far they've been perfectly willing to follow your lead. You mainly need them to take care of Kiki-hime, and everything else can be coped with.

Rie leads you from the gate into the dark, cat-filled alley, the bright glowing eyes of the youkai and the cats gazing at you fearlessly. “'Cause I want my youkai safe, and you can help me. I said I'd help, so I'm helping.” You're not quite sure that she's understanding what you mean....or it could be she knows exactly what you mean and just does not care to explain herself.

You keep forgetting she isn't human at all, that there is nothing human in her except her form and some vague understanding of how humans think in some small portion of her mind. Perhaps that was what granted her her God's Eyes – being empathetic to humankind.

It doesn't take long to reach....your home. Well, close enough – they're across the street, the gate closed and undoubtedly locked. You're nowhere near where you left Shinjuku from, you're seven or eight miles away and you know you didn't walk that far.

“Bye.” Rie's hand slips out of yours and the white cat – in cat form – starts padding off.

[X] Right, home it is.
[XX] Do a thorough check of the area.
[XXX] Stop by a local temple – everyone is likely asleep at home.

You know there is a small shrine nearby – nothing special, or spectacular, a simple street shrine dedicated to a local saint or kami. Rather than waking up your family, going there and offering the appropriate prayers giving offerings wouldn't be a bad idea – you have quite a number to give, actually.

After quickly tearing up your right sleeve to match the left and gathering up the silk tatters, you look a little more symmetrical and more 'I planned this' than 'someone cut me up and tried to beat me to death with magic and iron balls and chains.' Black hides the blood nicely too, so you have less to worry about than that.

It doesn't take long to reach the shrine, and you perform the proper ablutions and requisite ceremonial cleansing: hands, feet, and mouth. Setting the dipper back, you make an offering to the shrine itself, then clap your hands before making a proper set of prayers. It doesn't take long for you to become aware of the person watching you do this, someone not human and definitely focused on you as a person. You continue the prayers until you have thanked the kami, those that served them, and those specific kami and kamuy you've promised offerings to. You pull out the black and silver charm, and hold it up, and it slowly dissolves into to thick black smoke that rises into the air....
>>
>>35544937
As do your wounds. You can feel the bruised ribs healing, the cuts, sealing and red-brown smoke pouring from the healing flesh as the wounds vanish along with the charm to protect you from Yomi's corrupting influence. Which does make a strange sort of sense – the wounds being impurities in the body, and therefore your body being purified to it's natural state.

Emi-sama must have liked you.

You finish your prayers and clap twice, bowing before the shrine, and turning. You don't see them immediately, but you're distinctly not looking for them either, because that would give your awareness away.

[X] Ask them to join you on the sacred ground.
[X] Water Eyes.
[] Pull a fast one and escape unseen.

While Water Eyes might not help you if you can't actually see the presence that is currently focused upon you, it can't really hurt either, and you might see more than you would otherwise. Whatever is watching you is not using any Elemental Sight; you would have noticed that thanks to Amaterasu-Omikami's blessings. As you half-feared you see nothing with your Water Eyes that you wouldn't have seen otherwise, but you have the distinct feeling you are being watched.

Walking away from the shrine, you carefully toe on your flats, and tap them into place, considering your next course of action. The shimenawa that border the pure space of the shrine isn't large, only thirty feet by thirty feet, but it is still very significant. You make your way to the path in the middle....and make your decision.

“Please join me on this sacred ground. I'd rather not cause you any trouble, and if you mean to cause me trouble, it would be rude to do it here....so please join me.” The unspoken threat that you'll assume they mean you harm if they don't is very well implied.

Which is when a Barrier starts to form – and with it, the presence starts to solidify, just outside the shrine's sacred borders. A true spirit creature perhaps – true oni, youkai, or kami. Or....something that was in the spirit world, and is now trying to bring you to the place between there and here. A powerful oni-child, or dragon-child, or youkai-child might manage it.

But either way, your secret will be revealed to them.

[] Break the Barrier before it finishes forming.
[] Let them finish – if it's a true spirit creature it's necessity.
[] Give them a warning before they finish.
[] You MIGHT be able to escape the barrier before it closes....
[] Obscure yourself with Wind and Water!

[X] Let them finish – if it's a true spirit creature it's necessity.
[X] Give them a warning before they finish.
[X] Obscure yourself with Wind and Water!

It's a definite risk but the fact is that if it's a true spirit creature then you really have no choice at all but to let them finish. That doesn't mean you can't take steps to protect yourself – and them.

Even though the Barrier isn't completely formed, you wrap yourself in a whirl of wind, stirring up leaves and dust, hiding yourself from view the easy way; as the Barrier becomes more complete you summon a thick fog, releasing it into the sacred space of the shrine, dense and billowing. “If you look upon my true form, I'm afraid I can't let you leave without certain promises! My enemies cannot know of my true form, and I will kill to prevent them from learning of it, because they will most definitely do the same to me.” You let the winds die down, the fog roiling and heavy as you crouch within – several yards back and to the side from where you were standing, using the wind to throw your voice around the shrine area.

You can hear a girl's voice, soft and high, speaking quietly to someone else. Two people – but you only sensed one. Then the Barrier is complete and you can sense the other – a very large, heavy presence, Water, like you, but truly an oni, rather than an oni-child. She must have been obscuring herself using Void or Stone, or she has a talisman or charm of some sort to help you not sense her. But that wouldn't stop Matagama-no-Shitoki from allowing you to sense her presence.

“We're entering the sacred grounds! Please don't attack us!” the girl voice is dulcet and cute sounding, and you let the fogs part as they walk forward, and reform it behind them.

Well, you can't trust your ears, apparently. While her voice is cute and delicate, the oni-chick is anything but. Her skin is the grey-green of decay or moldy earth, and her horns are massive, bent things that look like they'd get in her way. She's lost an eye, somewhere along her way, and she's built like a brick shit-house – seven feet tall and touch, with breasts that might be bigger than Kiki-hime's in proportion. Her choice is attire is interesting though – black and white leather, total biker gear, with lots of gold and bronze buckles and decorations. Her hair is so black you can't even differentiate it from shadows, and her belly button is pierced, with a gold and diamond cross. Her blue eyes are bright and clear, and betray her human heritage, and her face is actually soft and pretty as well, more signs of that heritage.

Accompanying her is a true oni, shorter than her by half a foot – but he's MASSIVE and somewhat hunched or squatting. Brown canvas cargo pants, a rope belt, and simple grey t-shirt with tiger stripes along the sides and back, and a rosary of huge red beads. He's also about nearly five feet around, a heavy, powerful oni with thick gold hair. Which means standing up he'll probably be closer to twelve feet tall – no one to be trifled with. His red eyes glow, and the sword at his side might be a wakizashi to him, but it's damn near a cleaver shaped like a katana to everyone else. He's also wearing part of an armored skirt, strangely enough. Surprisingly, he's a creature of Earth – it's the oni-child woman with him who is of Water.

[X] I am called Ryuu Ryukusa – what is your business with me?
[X] You aren't anyone I know....were you looking for me specifically?

“My name is Ryuu Ryukusa, of Clan Ryo.” She lean over and speaks to him – not Japanese but Ainu, which is odd in and of itself, especially since she speaks perfect Japanese. You can see through Water Eyes that she is merely translating for her father. Neither of them are interested in a fight, but they're both on edge. Clearly they're not possessed or bespelled – they wouldn't haver been able to enter the shrine's grounds if that were the case, unless it was by a powerful individual, who also would have to be powerful enough to hide it from your Water Eyes, which is unlikely at best considering the presence of Matagama-no-Shitoki. “Clearly you have some business with me....what is it?”

“My name is Mizumi Shoko; this dumb bastard is my grandfather Hagyu Genso,” she announces, and she sounds ridiculously cute despite her colorful language. She could be a pop-idol instantly – on the air or in albums. “We have business with you, but first we must ask a question....” You can tell it's grating on her nerves to force herself to be polite.

That's a problem, especially since her claim causes Genso-san to place his left hand on the scabbard of his wakizashi, and his right hand hovering over the hilt. His eyes gleam in the darkness, though he isn't looking directly at you as of yet.

“Well, since you aren't anyone I know....and you are looking for me specifically....depending on the question, I might let you conduct business. I should point out that I've already stated that if you are my enemies, just seeing me has put your life in jeopardy.” You pull Ame-no-Omukade-no-Musume from Nowhere, still sheathed. You can feel the awareness in the blade, and it's venomous power, but only because you are touching it. You can't take any chances – a true oni, even if you have your true form, is no laughing matter – half-oni's beat you up pretty well.

Shoko-san lifts her gloved hands in supplication. “I haven't tried to see through the mists – I can't speak for the old fag though.” She does look around, but you can tell she isn't using Water eyes, or power just yet. She's worried, and a little afraid, but mostly, she's hopeful. The old man is ready to defend her – not himself, which doesn't say much since he's a Stone Oni. It is telling that she's being as earnest and polite as she possibly can be.

[X] Ask it.
[X] You don't have to be polite for my sake, Shoko-san.

You remain quiet, and you can tell she's becoming more nervous, but he's as steady as a rock. She might be calling him grandfather, but he's not – your Water Eyes can't be fooled by appearance or claims of parentage. You can see that those beads aren't just for show, however – they're meaningful to him, and he's definitely the type to know his sword work, with as steady and calm as his pose is. You can feel his awareness of you, even though he's looking straight ahead, calm and steady and the Stone he is part of.

….is that....zanshin? Is he actually a practitioner of Miyamoto Mushashi's Void precepts?

Holy crap. A Zen swordsman. That's somewhat terrifying.

“You don't have to be polite for my sake, Shoko-tan.” Her soft blue eye – lake blue, rather than Kiki's sky blue or your sapphire blue – blinks and she colors deeply, her face going a nearly black color. “Ask your question, sweet-speaker; I am not afraid!”

Her jaw drops, and then she bursts out laughing. “Bloody fuck, you really are fucking crazy!” Her father doesn't even glance at her, but you've alleviated most of her fear in a single sentence.

“I've got plenty of reason to be.”

That sobers her up fairly quickly. She licks her lisp slowly. “Please, Ryuu Ryukusa – Ryukusa-sama.” She takes a deep breath, and looks down at the ground, and then goes to both knees. Clasping her hands together, she asks her question: “What is your real name?”

Well, heaven. There isn't anyone else in the Barrier – your certain Matagama-no-Shitoki would warn you if there were other magically guarded people here with you. Still, it's a big risk.

[+] How did they find me, and it's a dangerous sort of name.....and for kamuy's sake, don't get yourself killed!

“Tell me how you found me first. What you are asking is very dangerous information....dangerous enough to risk your lives for, apparently.” Your voice moving through the fog around them is clearly distressing poor Shoko, but you're absolutely certain it's not bothering her father in the slightest. Facing him head on isn't even an option at this point; you might be able to face him in a normal fight, but he's clearly trained far beyond your skills to cope with ~and~ he's a Stone Oni. One or the other you probably could have coped with. At least in Goto you're just facing one problem and not both. “So, in light of that....tell me why you need to know and why you'd risk your life to learn it.”

There is one thing that you're finding reassuring – the way Shoko asked you for your name is very similar to a certain Void dragonette's asking of it.

But that's not proof.

Shoko hesitates, and then speaks quickly. “I heard a whisper through the Void, in my spirit. A voice from the Void telling me that there was a name I should remember, should know. That the person who this name belonged to would be able to return to me what was taken from me.” Her words tumble on, her charmingly girlish voice spilling her fears and secrets. Well, neither really, but still, it's poetic. “I dismissed it as a dream but Oji-san told me we had to go to Tokyo, to meet with a person whose name was destruction to speak to the wrong person.”

Well, that's pretty accurate in a couple of ways!

“So we must hear the name from your lips, to know if it is a true name, and it is worth our lives....” She hesitates, looking at her father, then into the mist, trying to find you. She's not using power, so she doesn't find or see you, but you know she could, easily. But then, if she's assuming you're a Void dragonette or oni-child, she's be worried you would sense her power and do something drastic. They're as capable of dramatics and Water kind are, after all. “It's worth our lives because once our lives were spend serving that name!” Now she's tense, tense enough to pull at the long, long tail of hair trailing from her otherwise short hair.

You haven't dealt with Water oni-children very often at all. You know they're cunning, and adept with the weather as Water dragonettes tend to be, but beyond that, you're not really sure of their capabilities. But she's not trying to use her power, and she's definitely telling the truth. More importantly, that hope is surging, she truly expects you to be who she is looking for. “When did this voice speak to you?”

“This evening, only hours ago, Ryukusa-sama.” Definitely wasn't Hidesato then. It sounds like Er Yin was busy while you were working. She had thought it would be three days or so, however.

“So what do you believe my name to be?” She's already told you that she won't tell you, but she licks her lips, considering, thinking hard. Putting her innate cunning to work.

“I believe that your name is truly to bring destruction upon the world in a torrent were you in possession of it.” Well, she's willing to take the big risks, that's for sure.

You float over to the central pathway, near the shrine's entrance – and well away from the two supplicants – and sweep the fog away, in a whirlwind that drags the leaves and sakura blossoms up with it, surrounding yourself and them with your whirlwind....which could easily become a weapon or a defense should you need it. You float several feet off the ground, looking down at them, your mismatched eyes gleaming. “Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado.”

Shoko stares at you, awestruck, and Genso relaxed, and goes to his knees. His voice is thick and rough with emotion. “Horobi-no-Mikado....” You can see unshed tears in his eyes. He kowtows to you....three times. Shoko is simply staring.

“Even in a Barrier, that name, this visage, they can lead to your death. Don't speak it, don't reveal it.” Your words are calm, controlled, and Shoko-san speaks Ainu to her father. “Now....how do you know me?”

Shoko speaks up softly. “My father was the leader of your samurai. I was your major domo....”

….finally! Someone who was THERE!

Both are good choices, I can't make it!

The fire dead yet, XS-sama?

Thanks for the thread!

Arrgh, this is a difficult question. However, I'll say:

>[] Get the answers directly from Shoko's Point of View, playing as Shoko during a flashback

Because last flashback was just as incredibly awesome as the rest of this Quest, but quite different, and you're one of the best writers whose words I ever read.

Theoretically, thread tomorrow.

The fires are all dead, and it has rained.

No smoke, and I'm doing good.
>>
>>35547530
Thanks for running, XS.

>>35547578
Going to have to go with >>35547606 on this one.
>>
>>35547578
I don't really mind either way, do what you'd prefer XS.
>>
>>35547685
Was the Shoko-tan thing intentional? I assume so since -tan isn't exactly the first honorific I was expecting in this situation.
>>
>>35547708
Yes, it was intentional - a reflection on how she sounds, compared to her looks.
>>
>>35547726
Hah. Will we have to tell Rie to watch out, then?
>>
>>35547685
That's good, then.
How's the health been, aside from the fires and smokes?
>>
>>35547747
Maybe.

On the other hand, Rie is a God's eye Nekomata. Are you sure you don't want to warn Shoko-tan?
>>
>>35547578
I like the second option but I also want to see Ryukusa's reaction to the info.
>>
>>35547800
But she's an oni. Would warning her even help?
>>
>>35547800
What if, uh...
What if we don't warn either?
Just, you know, as a thought-experiment. Just throwing out some ideas here. Brainstorming.
>>
>>35547747

I don't get it
>>
>>35547944
Shoko-tan looooves putting cats in her mouth. And I don't mean in a lewd way. Or a gore-y way. Just, cats in mouth.
>>
>>35548013

I think I am missing a reference here. Or it could be the lack of sleep

Skoko is a little odd.

Alright! Hype rising.

Better without the fires. New meds cleared up the permanent pneumonia I was suffering from -there just happened to be an outbreak of fires right after I started them.

Next are the injections now that the fires are gone. Yay. Kind of.

What is she doing to that cat?

Putting it in her mouth.

She does that. No one knows why.
>>
>>35548248
With the lighting and mascara it kiiinda looks like she's a vampire or succubus or something, sucking out its soul. Not the most flattering Shoko-tan image I've seen.
>>
>>
>>35548463
That's pretty disgusting, no lie
>>
Thank you all for playing and reading.

>>35548528
Probably one of her manic days.
>>
>>35548594
Night XS! Or afternoon or whatever at your location.

>Shoko-tan
Wasn't she the one that tried to handle a rifle bigger than she is?

>This person was our majordomo
Good to know Horobi was just as crazy as Ryukusa is now.
>>
>>35548864
You're talking about a person whose job description is "kill large segments of the population because god said so, regardless of whether or not they deserve it personally, because the guy who does it if you don't is a real fucking monster."

You kind of have to make concessions and exceptions to the definitions of words like 'sanity', 'morals', 'ethics', and 'compassion'.
>>
>>35549091
Our majordomo likes to stick cats in their mouth. Just think about that for a second.

And yes, our job description as you see it may suck, but there's a reason for that. Hirobi is who you call when things have gone to shit and you need someone to remove leukemia or the like. She is the person you call on because everyone else HASN'T been doing their job.

The quest has shown that Ryukusa has tons of compassion, a great sense of ethics, and quite a bit of sanity (kept there by her wives and sister). A person isn't their job description, it's just what they do to help keep things going, so they can have their own little slice of life.
