The whole of reality seems to be nothing but white light and horrible, thunderous rumbling. The sound roars through your head, louder than anything you'd heard before and perhaps louder than anything you'll hear in the future. You're left paralyzed, incapable of thought or action. Time itself seems to slow down as the roar of the explosion grows ever louder.

You don't know how long you remain like that, dead to the world around you, but when you once more become self-aware you find yourself hovering above the center of a vast crater. The air is clogged with thick smoke, the acrid smell of sulphur seeming to pervade everything. You drift cautiously upwards, trying to find a vantage point from which you might survey the destruction you caused.

You wander seemingly at random in the towering cloud of ash, eventually finding your way to fresh air only after several minutes of searching. You twist around to peer up at the column of black smoke created by the explosion. It stretches higher than anything you've seen before, save perhaps the mountain peaks of the Northern Range. It absolutely dwarfs the mountain at the center of the island.

The cove itself is simply gone, there's nothing left. The only ship to survive the blast, and you use the term survive loosely, is a lone brigantine. Its sails have been reduced to ash and its deck splintered. Both of its mast have collapsed, one into the sea and the other onto the deck. The only reason it hasn't sunk into the depths is because the water where it anchored was too shallow to swallow it entirely.

The humble village of shacks and huts has been reduced to scrap metal and rubble. You can see figures moving through the dust and debris, but not many. A handful of survivors, perhaps a dozen at most, when once there had stood a village housing hundreds.

The fortress itself fared better than its surroundings. The central tower has collapsed, taking with it a significant chunk of the structure beneath. At the center of the fortress, where one of its massive turbines sat previously, there is instead a hole in reality. You find it difficult to focus on for any stretch of time. Affording it only a brief glance leaves your eyes aching and your head pounding. Around it, flakes of metal peel off of the near-by walls and collapse into it, vanishing into its depths soundlessly. Motes of vys surround the black hole with a shifting halo of multicolored light. In a way, it's beautiful.

Before your very eyes a creature's vaguely insectoid limb reaches through the hole, grasping onto the edge and hauling itself out. A many-eyed head pokes through, followed by a second grasping limb. It tenses, and the hole spreads wider. The rest of the beast is quickly vomited forth, falling to the stone below. Where its torso ought to be, there is merely a swirling expanse of black interspersed with burst of color and light. It almost reminds you of the night sky.

A second creature comes spilling out of the hole, this one much easier than the first. Then a third, and a fourth. The first monster has already stalked off towards the village, malicious intent clear. It likely intends to feast on the corpses of the dead and finish off any survivors it finds. Its compatriots quickly follow its lead, twisting their lumbering bodies towards the rubble.

I could give two shits about the island.
I want anything that might have survived. With what was dozens of Vatis running around. and plenty of plundered gear, some/alot of artifacts might be left over.

Heck may even find Ryhnian armor at the RYHNIAN BASE. that self repairs. and a few of those alone would be worth the trip.

Well, it seems your job here is done. The pirates are no longer a threat and the only consequence seems to be opening a portal to a hellish realm of likely genocidal monsters. Talk about a mission going off without a hitch! As you're getting ready to rocket off and check on the spot where you buried the Shah's signet ring, you notice movement from the portal mouth.

A hunched figure falls from the sphere of black, landing gracefully on its strange stone feet. It wields two large blades, each one the length of your leg at least. The blades seem to be made of some sort of strange crystal, perhaps the same material that seems to run between the interlocking stone plates that make up the creature's skin. Vys boils off of its back, and its skeletal head seems alight with magic power. It's an intimidating sight, made more-so by the predator nature of its gait and bearing.

As it straightens itself and peers around its surroundings, its eyes seem to lock on your own. With a hellish shriek it raises one of its two blades towards you, energy crackling along its surface. In a fit of desperation, you throw up dozens of illusory copies of yourself performing various actions, some running away, some charging for it, some standing still, while you dart off towards the artificial crest that shields this side of the island from the rest. Behind you, you hear a loud crack and feel something run along your spine. However, you seem to have escaped whatever that attack was. It's just unfortunate the creature spotted you.

You pause at the sight where you burred the ring. Fortunately, it seems to have been spared from the worst of the blast. You're nearly a mile away from the epicenter of the explosion and this site was protected by that lip of stone rising out of the ground. You clear away the dirt with a simple spell and pluck up the ring with the same, examining it in the light. It seems unharmed, fortunately.

Once you've got the ring you shoot off towards the beach where you buried your belongings. Much to your surprise when you finally reach the beach you notice something odd. The door into the tower is shaking violently, the chain rattling loudly, and you can hear something pounding against the metal. You're curious as to what might lie locked away inside, but at the same time the warning on the door worries you. Death lies inside, and you're not sure if you want to risk unleashing any more horrors into the world than you already have.

kay, I'm sure you're also pissed about us healing the alt!earth soldier and saving Darzi, as well as Chrys(since she would have died without us)
>>
>>35556200
Reread the conversation. We mentioned the village and the whores and kids, it didn't change her opinion.
>>
>>35556201
Can we throw a bitch fit at her and call her a common bandit?
>>
>>35556201
The bar incident is nothing like this anon.
We achieved what we came here to do. The pirate threat to navies is silenced. Now we just gotta deal with our too-great success.
>>
We should probably be more worried by the Portal to the Void Dimension, than petty mass murder.

Priority's are important.
>>
I'd hope Mik is at least mildly traumatized after this, or our insanity goes up
>>
>>35556226
Well shit, I'm disappointed in Darzi then.
>>
>>35556280
I get the feeling she was treating this more like a war than a simple pirate threat. In war, civilian casualties are acceptable so long as you win.
>>
>>35556238
Hell no. Why do you want to break the objectively best girl? Not our personal best, but the only one who has any sort of conscience.

Besides, exigencies of war ya know? It's not like it was for no reason at all.
>>
>>35556206
Highly incorrect. Also I'm not sure how assuming things about others helps what you were saying before. The main point is this isn't really our problem anymore, it hadn't been until Kadir decided we would be the guide to this place.
Why do you care so much about pirates, honestly?

>>35556280
I'm not. She's smart enough to recognize the difference between overzealous solutions to personal problems and quick solutions to nation sized problems as some anons cannot.
>>
>>35556280
She thinks her only worth and defining trait is being a loyal soldier, she's desperate to work for the Shah and acted fanatic because of it.
We also didn't mention the generator amd consequent void rampage.
I think Mik has no right to criticize though.
>>
>>35556306
>Darzi

Good looks a woman doth not make. Darzi a okay but not waifu tier.
>>
>>35556328
>nation sized problems
We killed more civillians than they would have. They were gunning for military and higher ups.
>>
>>35556238
Yesss, we should bring it up in a firm and concerned tone and tell her that we are disappointed in her.
>>
>>35556328
Your justifocations did not involve them being a threat to the nation, it was literally "they too weak to defend themselves, then fuck 'em".
I was taking it to its logical conclusion and saying since Darzi, Chrys, and Prof needed our help to survive, they also deserve to be sacrificed and caused more teouble than worth it.
>>
>>35556306
>Lawful stupid.

>>
>>35556341
Her personality isn't awful, but I agree that she isn't the best.
that's shared between her, and the rest of our female party members

You guys just literally gutted and raped a dead corpse but then decided it was one step too far to leave an angry letter on it.
>>

Exactly, your a pussy.
>>
>>35556341

Only character that qualifies as objectively good. Others are Neutral at best. Also, she is probably the only character that qualifies as Sane.

Is she best for being our waifu? No. But is she probably the best person among us? So far I'd say yes. I mean, there's drinking and whoring Profectus, Murderhobo Chryssa, Ancient AI Fulvia, Skull Kid from another world who is cool with kidnapping, murder and torture, or the other chick from another world who spent her life in a swamp and is our ancestral enemy?
>>
>>35556441

>>
>>35556330
To be fair to Mik, we weren't aware the generator would cause this in the slightest. A bigger explosion for; sure. A temporary black hole as suggested last thread; probably.
This? Hmm, nobody foresaw this.

>>35556369
And our companions would've been on the boats that were sailing to fight them suicidally, at risk of cannon fire and whatever their artifact did. I'd say we performed as we should in their defense.

>>35556393
Fair enough. The sarcasm filter wasn't respectably strong this time. I'll go back to Shishioing.

>>35556441

>>
>>35556467
Your autism is showing.
>>
Not that anon, but what does what you said have to do with anything?

The Mission is Accomplished. Sure, we didn't get 100% on the loot, and it has unlocked the Void-Incursion timed event, but the explosion was pretty neato.
>>
>>35556464
>drinking and whoring

Profectus is the only good character in our party, and he also happens to be best waifu

You hover in the air for a moment, staring at the door for a moment before shaking your head and darting off. While interesting, you've no desire to risk your life any more than you already have. Plus, you're not sure how much time you have left on this dose of incorporeality potion. The last thing you'd want is to become physical again while snooping through a monster-infested tower.

You slip beneath the waves and stop next to the small pillar of stone you erected above the spot where you buried your things. It takes you only a moment to dig beneath the sand and extract your cloak, the vial of incorporeality potion swaddled within. Bundle suspended in the air using a manipulate spell, you dart out of the water and soar into the air to get a good look at your surroundings. Sparing a glance behind yourself, you see flashes of light and can hear the distant thundering of... something, from just beyond the mountain. The pillar of ash and smoke has yet to dissipate, though it has started to fall back down to earth.

You spot the distant form of the dinghy you rowed in on drifting aimlessly at sea. It's gotten closer to the island than it was when you abandoned it, but it's still a ways out. You quickly shoot across the distance between you and it, coming to an abrupt halt just above the craft and depositing your things in the craft. You could likely propel the craft by magic until such a time as your incorporeality wore off, and indeed that would get you back to the village far, far faster than rowing would; however, that would prove taxing on your already drained reserves. You could also simply wait out the rest of your incorporeality, but you've little idea how long that would take.

>On second thought, just fly to the village and hope you've got enough juice to make it.

>>
Hey Soma when was the last time you updated our character sheet? Lots of small details seem to be outdated. Nothing extremely important yet though.
>>
>>35557074
It's funny you should say that because I really like the idea of teaching our baby the magic of firevys based magnification.
>>
>>35557074
I don't even remember the last time the dragon got called a girl, and I'm the guy who started doing it, I wouldn't even vote for fire, nature is the best choice right now. Stop being an angsty teenager raging against the machine, you're just a fag

I'm on the nature train too but not getting fire up to master after we've gotten 3/4 insights seems like a waste to me

It's less raging against the machine, It's more, we are Expert in Fire, we can do the illusions WELL Lets drop it for now, and start focusing on things, like Nature, or more metamagics, or more effects. Or get all the hidden effects on our gear cleared up.

I'd just rather not focus on Fire is all. Don't get me wrong being master in two magics would be great, and having a dragon as a pet, FUCK YEAH, but there's better places to put our time.

You enforce calm on the seas around the dinghy with a bit of simple water magic, bringing it to a standstill. Once you no longer have to worry about it drifting off you twist in the air to face the pillar of ash and smoke rising from the site of the explosion. You know, come to think of it, it sort of looks like a mushroom. An odd shape for a cloud, certainly. You can't help but wonder why it might shape itself like that.

The flashes of light and sound die out after a few minutes, though you notice a few figures flitting through the air in the general area of the hole in reality. You also note that the ash cloud has ceased growing any taller and is only spreading itself out at this point. You wonder how long it's going to hang around. After a few more minutes there's a sound like a thunderclap, the earth shaking hard enough that even your boat rocks. You're not really sure what's just happened.

You end up needing to wait for about fourteen minutes for your incorporeality to wear off. You fall gracelessly to the floor of your dinghy's hull, though you manage to avoid hitting your head on anything. Weariness seems to wash over you, drowning you in lethargy. Your limbs ache, your head hurts, your eyes burn, your stomach churns. All the characteristic side effects one experiences when drained of vys. You push yourself up laboriously, reaching into your cloak and extracting the handle of your Shockwave Sword. With a thought, you feel power flooding into your limbs, driving away your various aches and pains for the time being.
>Vys Pool: (19/30)

The gem in the hilt of your Shockwave Sword has lost its glow, reduced once more to a mundane, cracked gem. You let it slip back into your cloak, instead retrieving your various underclothes and quickly dressing yourself. Once you're decent, you take a seat on the bench and start rowing, turning your vessel towards the southeast. You likely have several hours of this ahead of you.
(1/2)
>>
The first hour or so you don't even really think, you're just going through the motions to get away from whatever horrible abominations you've unleashed on the world. However, after a time the adrenaline dissipates and the shock wears off. You find your thoughts constantly drifting back to how you handled the situation.

Did you make the right decision, setting off that explosion? It ended the threat of the pirates quickly and efficiently, but it extinguished countless lives. Many of the people you just killed were likely only tangentially related to the pirates, noncombatants who didn't really have any hand in the murdering, raping, and looting carried out. Not to mention, you tore a hole in reality. You tore a fucking hole in reality. Gods above, what if you've doomed the world to death by otherworldly horrors?

>In the end, you think you made the right decision based on the information you had at the time. You wouldn't do it again though.
>Why are you even wasting your time contemplating this? Who cares if it was right or wrong? You've got more important things to deal with than the consequences of your actions.
>What you did was awful. Even if the pirates were scum, they didn't deserve the death you gave them. One minute they're reveling, the next they're turned to ash. You can't believe Darzi would advocate such a course of action, or that you would carry it out.

They were pirates, the way we killed them was quick and effective, reducing any bloodshed that our allies might have suffered.
Holes in reality, on the other hand, are bad news.
>>
>>35557766
>In the end, it doesn't even matter

Isn't that kind of exactly what
>In the end, you think you made the right decision based on the information you had at the time. You wouldn't do it again though.
is saying?
>>
>>35557883
I'd hazard that it is our problem, given we will likely be the ones that have to deal with it.
>>
>>35557868
It's was the primary motivation for coming here in the first place.
>>
>>35557766
>Kinda messed up by tearing a hole in reality, other than that shits cool. Did what we came here to do.
>>
>>35557846
We're a crazy person. We rely on her to let us know where the line between crazy and sane lies. That's the main reason we kept her around in earlier threads when she wanted to leave.
>>
>>35557900
More, I don't have time to think about this, but this is how I want us to look at it when we do have time.
>>
>>35557917
I was ok with her leaving, since it was her wish and just making her judgment absolute is stupid considering what she has said and shown what she believes.
>>
>>35557906
Not unless Darzi and chrys decide they're gonna go March off and deal with it its not. Ours and our own. Others can get fucked
>>
>>35557868

If it wasn't for our friends, we never would have come to this island, and we would have let the asshole deal with it.
>>
>>35557921
"i don't have time" being from Mik point of view and not mine.
"How I want" from my perspective.
>>
>>35557911
>>35557936
I agree with that bit, but i doubt they would welcome that sentiment in the first place.
>>
>>35557933
I have a feeling that faggot Kadir is still going to make us guide him to the island, especially after that as such...
>>
>>35557957
Or he'll accuse us of leaving his father to die and blowing up the pirates is all a cover story for our nefarious cowardly schemes.
>>
>>35557805
We will have to accuse Darhzi of her immorality in the matter.

Well yeah we don't tell them that we did all that for them, that'd be socially unaware.
>>
>>35557954

Doesn't matter if they welcome it. If they didn't want an island blown up and a hole torn in reality, they shouldn't have been dumb enough to volunteer for a mission that they weren't ready for. They can do whatever they want, but then so will we.
>>
>>35557974
It just shows how much of a hypocrite she is, i bet you if we tell her about the people we left to die to the monsters she would get mad at us for leaving them to die.
>>
>>35557984
He still has his army
>>
>>35557921
I thought the "I don't have time" option was more the "I don't give a shit about consequences, this didn't not work so whatever." option, because of the:
>You've got more important things to deal with than the consequences of your actions.
>>
>Mik what the hell happenned.
>I killed them all Darzi, I sentenced a hundred/thousand people so that you and Chryssa may live.
>I never wanted you to do that...

What we should focus on is telling them that they're not beholden to the Shah now that their pledges have been invalidated by the destruction of the majority of his fleets.

It's at that time the pivotal moment for Darzi will reveal itself, to fight for the Shah against abominations from the void, or remain in the temple...

She's already announced her plans to start a family and retire from her post. She doesn't want war, she just wants to settle down after she makes sure her friends are settled. People don't exist or live for just one thing. They've loads of different wants and needs.
>>
>>35558225
Yes, and we dragged her away from such a life, and then her duty to her king dragged her away again.

You console yourself with the knowledge that, based on what you knew at the time, it really was your best option. Your only option, really. What else were you going to do, fight the entire pirate band at once? It would've been suicide. Of course, hindsight has a way of simplifying previously complex issues. Had you known the reactor would react how it did to being destabilized, you would've endeavored to deactivate it or otherwise prevent it from being damaged.

You push those thoughts to the back of your mind, instead reaching into your cloak and plucking out your brooch. You clip it to your cloak, in its usual position, and feel those strange connections flare up in the back of your head, near the base of your neck. It's a strange sensation, it almost tickles, but it quickly subsides. While rowing yourself steadily towards home you reach out for Fulvia, hoping she might shed some light on just what you've done.

{Fulvia, I fear I may have unleashed something horrible into the world.} Perhaps not the best way to start a conversation, but it's the truth.

{I am glad to hear that you have not died, Mikhael. What have you done?} Her tone is passive, unphased by what you've said. Frankly, you find her reaction a little more disconcerting. You chock it up to the fact she's an artificial consciousness and move on.

{I believe that setting off the store of gunpowder may have destabilized a reactor inside the pirate fortress. There's a giant black hole where the fortress' reactor used to be and horrible monsters are spilling out of it. I think they wiped out any survivors that weren't killed by the blast.}

(1/?)
>>
Fulvia's response comes after several uncomfortable moments of silence. She doesn't sound nearly so impassive. Rather, she sounds almost excited. {Really? Compromised reactors are known to open portals into the void; however, I've only heard of one other incident where creatures spilled out of said portals. It must've taken place... oh, several hundred years before the Empire's collapse. I don't know the exact circumstances that led to the reactor being compromised but observers stated that the resulting portal almost seemed to be sentient. It moved about seemingly with purpose, and vomited forth uncountable horrors to exterminate any life it came across. Eventually it simply collapsed in on itself, but the veil between realities was left weakened wherever the portal had passed.}

That's... interesting you suppose. {So you're saying the problem will fix itself?} Fulvia's response is immediate. {Perhaps; I'm saying this is too unique an event for me to say with any amount of certainty. It may collapse on itself within the hour, or it may persist for days, weeks, months, even years. Tell me, did you notice any crystal formation around the reactor? Crystal formation is common around reactors, usually in small amounts, but in this particular case it was abnormally high.}

You frown despite yourself. {I didn't actually get a look at the reactor, I explored the fortress but not the level I think the reactor was on.}

Fulvia's responds with a hint of trepidation in her voice. {Well, I suppose we'll never know then. If the hole has already formed we'll want to contain the beast spilling out of the portal until such a time as the hole closes. In the report of the previous incident, it's mentioned that the sixth legion was called into the area to deal with the creatures. Since we lack a ten-thousand man strong force, I'd recommend reporting this to government officials and leaving this issue in their, hopefully capable, hands.}
(2/4)
>>
Fulvia pauses, and when next she contacts you her tone is hesitant. {I must warn you, the Shah took the news of his father's death quite poorly. He's locked himself in the quarters the Varistha gave him and we've heard not a word from him since. I fear that he may do something rash when you return.}

Well, you've come to expect rash action from Kadir, little shit that he is. {Is everyone alright?} Fulvia responds after a moment. {Darzi, Profectus, and Chrys ought to be waiting for you on the docks, while Skull Kid, Mortia, and myself are working jointly to create a device which might annihilate the pirate fleet. It seems you've beat us to the punch, in that regard. The village has been left largely unscathed; however, fear has seized hold. Shops are closed and people have locked barricaded themselves in their homes.}

Well, it's good to know that by and large everyone is okay. You reach out cautiously towards the rest of the gang via the brooches. {I'm alive, everyone. Sorry I-}

Chrys interrupts you. {Do you know I have been worrying for hours now that you incinerated yourself in that blast? How could you so irresponsibly neglect to get in touch with us as soon as you were safe? Do you not care? Do-}

She's cut off, and after a moment Darzi speaks. {It's good to hear you're okay. You'll have to forgive Chrys, she was taking your silence just a tad harder than the rest of us.} Seems an understatement to your mind, but you don't bring it up. {Was that explosion solely due to the... oh, what was it? Gun powder, yes?}
(3/4)
>>
You take a moment to fill them in on the gist of what happened, leaving out the part about the extra-dimensional hole in reality spilling forth horrible monsters. That just seems like the sorta thing you tell someone about in person, not via a cold, impersonal, telepathic communication. Your party seems just a tad awestruck by your tale, even Skull Kid and Mortia show interest in the story whilst cursing you for making them waste their time toiling away at a gadget they didn't need.

Chrys insist on maintaining the vigil on the docks, waiting for your return. Darzi relents to her wishes, while Profectus just seems happy that he gets to sit about and do fuck all without worrying that you've blown yourself to smithereens. Lazy git. You return to your rowing with renewed vigor. It's still several more hours at sea before you can even see the village on the horizon, and another hour after that before you're sliding into a slip at the pier. Before you can even finish tying the dinghy to its moorings, you feel yourself being crushed from behind by two impossibly strong arms, the air forced involuntarily from your lungs as Chrys either hugs you in greeting or punishes you for being inconsiderate, you're not entirely sure which.

>Blegh. Not happy with the post but, there you go. Sorry about the weak ending.

>>35559322
That sounds a hell of a lot riskier considering our cloak would be there and the bomb was made for dealing with the fleet. No, it doesn't sound easier in the slightest. We busted some barrels and ignited the powder, the easiest most artifact costly method available.
>>
>>35559322
Considering what we did it doesn't actually.

Also, you're saying the ship wouldn't be full of Vatis? Even though it was?
>>

>you're saying the ship wouldn't be full of Vatis
The command center was, but if the village was any indication it would have been filled with normal sailors with some vatis here and there.
>>
>>35559363
But it had plenty of Vatis on it anon, our observations even said so.
>>

Where?
>>
>>35559390
Right up there, you read it? Obviously not..
>>
>>35559395
Where?
>>
>>35559363
I believe we discussed that the primary warship of the pirate captain is going to have the most capable Vatis on it since it's the one going into battle all the time.
>>
>>35559404
Thanks that is true, it would have the most vatis/ capable on it.
>>
>>35559402
I also believe he's talking about the last thread, where we got a view of their little celebration shindig. I have no explanation for "up there," so don't ask me.

So um, chrys is just tatsuko. Like that's what she is, a damn cuddlezerker

So anyone up for making an excursion back to the island with the party?

We can be fairly confident that the hole is closed from the explosion when we were rowing away. We can comb through the rest of the base, maybe check out that tower, maybe kill a couple abominations.

Should be fun, we should confirm the portal is closed anyway.
>>
>>35561190
I'm sure some bretty gud loot has survived. Most of the tower was intact anyway.
>>
>>35559104
We severed the connection before they had a chance to react to us going on an almost suicide mission.
>>
>>35561190
>The Rhynians had to call in an army of thousands to deal with a hole
>let's go exploring with a 7-man party! I'm sure the hole has already closed itself, even though we were just told that it could persist for years!
>>
>>35561913
Yeah let's not explore anything that will make the quest much more interesting.
>>
>>35561950
You mean like the mask?
I'm not sure why a quest ending because MC dies is more interesting either, but okay.
