-- 11 Days After Arrival of CCS Zhejiang in the Detroit System --

You are Mechwarrior Motoko Meilleur, and Andre was supposed to be back with the Doctor several hours ago.

He has not returned. The submarine they went out on cannot be raised. The Wyrm would have satellite imagery, if the satellite hadn't been shot down by what you now know what was the CCS Zhejiang several hours ago.

But that's not the first time things have gone wrong, and it probably won't be the last.

The Ops Officer, Captain Shi, has called you to his office, without much explanation. It's probably about Andre's mission.

Who was called to the office with you?

> Your best friend and training partner. Slightly your junior, but your equal in skills.
> Your instructor. The two of you go way back.
> The old, crusty asshole you always see sitting and eating alone in the mess hall.

And provide me a name for the option you've picked. All are 'pick the gender you want' as well.

>>
>>35570514
>Meilleur
Christ I didn't even think to check the translation for that when I picked Andre's name.

Welp, apparently they've got to be ace pilots now. Fuck.
>>
>>35570550

Andre has got to have some serious luck (herp?) or skill or instincts to survive the entirety of the first thread.
>>
>>35570617
Significant amounts of luck. For example, getting out of the 'mech when the option presented itself would have led to Andre dying. I had actually initially planned to wipe Flint off the map in cleansing nuclear fire.

But since I didn't, that'll just give me an opportunity to do it later!
>>
>>35570617
He's got the Jinxed trait. He gets more critical failures, but so does everyone else.
>>
You walk through the open door to Shi's office. Captain Shi is a small, middle-aged, balding Chinese man from the Capellan Confederation, with large glasses, and an unassuming demeanor.

When the Wyrm was taken over, Captain Shi was responsible for the deaths of 12 of the Word of Blake marines.

They had guns. He had a knife.

He gestures for you to take a seat. You do. In the other seat, next to you, is Eighty. Nobody knows his actual name. He's an ex-Blakist, but calling him a “Blakist” would be mostly unapplicable. When the resistance forces stormed the Wyrm, he was in the Mechbay. He asked if the new management would actually let him go out on missions in a Mech.

They said sure. He said fine, and shifted his allegiance real quick. Man doesn't care about anything other than piloting multi-ton death machines.

Shi sits down on the edge of his desk. “Motoko.”

“Sir?”

“We haven't heard from Andre or Jean-Marie. It's four hours past their report-in time.”

“Delays can and do happen, sir.”

He lifts one hand to stall your arguments. “True enough. They may have hit a snag. But all the same, we're readying for a follow-up. And you're going on it.”

You smile, and the next word out of your mouth would come as a shock to anyone who's used to restrained, reserved Draconis Combine citizens: “Bitchin'. When do we go?”

“Intel brief will be tomorrow. Today we're launching a recon plane to see what Flint looks like, see what happened, if it's a smoking crater. Depending on the result of this, we're going to tailor the mission appropriately. You'll be out on a sub with Eighty here in two days, most likely.”

Eighty grunts. He doesn't use words when grunts will do.

“As for right now, you need to get yourself some sleep and rest. Consider yourself officially on crew rest.”

“Sir.”

Eighty just grunts again.
>>
Captain Shi dismisses the two of you, and you're thrilled to finally be going topside and stop breathing this awful recirculated air, if only for a few hours.

You are Andre Meilleur, and shit has gone south.

Where did you run to?

>Abandoned building. There's lots of those in Flint to go around.
>The half-finished subway system. Public transit was almost a thing!
>Clothing store. Time to hide in plain sight, and tight black shorts and literally nothing else beyond your holster is a terrible way to blend in.

You see a seedy-looking clothing store a couple blocks away from where all the police are congregating on the corpse of your Urbanmech. Soon they'll realize that you're nowhere to be found. And that means you need to not look like a Mechwarrior.

You hustle the Doctor into a nearby alley. “Wait here for me. If I don't come and get you in five minutes, fuck off and hide. They'll send a second mission or at least a recon plane.”

He nods dully, still in shock from watching lightning come crashing down from the sky and eradicating your ride out of town.

You take a deep breath, check to make sure your pistol is loaded, and kick open the door to the clothing store. Only one person's in here, the proprietor, and you've immediately got your gun on him. He moves his hand behind him almost immediately.

“HANDS THE FUCK UP, NIGGA!”

Intimidate (Needs 9) Rolled 3, 2 = 5 (2d6) Intimidate failed!
(Most of you fuckers failed this anyway.)

He pulls a gun on you. “Man, I ain't need any of this shit. Fuck off or I'ma cap you right in the face.” While you've got yourself an actual decent handgun manufactured by Defiance Industries, his looks like a Quikscell Glawk 40. Which means that, even odds, it'll explode in his hand if he pulls the trigger.

You stop for a moment and think, as the two of you are in the classic Mexican standoff. You COULD back off, and run out, and find another place to hide. Downside to that is that the cops are probably aware of the fact that you're not at the Urbie by now, and will be looking for a large, scantily clad black man with a French accent. And Jamal here manning the store will probably try to shoot you in the back.

Of course, you could just shoot him still- chances are he'll miss, but you kind of regret not taking the shot earlier. Now he'll get to shoot back. And gunshots aren't particularly uncommon in Flint. Hell, you bet there's people already out, taking advantage of your carnage caused to loot stores and commit arson.

Third option, is to reach into your tight clothes, grab your sweaty, nasty, thin billfold of a couple hundred C-Bills and throw it. Either at him or towards him. He'll probably shoot you for reaching for something, though. You nearly did it to him.

>Back off, try to de-escalate and leave.
>Shoot him. Still looking for a 7+ to hit, though you're unsure of how good of a shot he is.
>Throw your money at him.

Jamal breaks the stalemate, while you're still considering your options. He's holding his gun sideways, in the proud tradition of gangbangers everywhere. With an exclamation of “Fuck off, nigga!” he pulls the trigger, and the first shot goes wide. He pulls again, the second one winging just by your head. The third misses you, but only by slightly more.

By reflex, you hold your breath, pull the trigger, and nail Jamal right in center mass. “Shit!” he shouts, and goes down, gurgling and screaming, like he's being murdered. Christ, you only shot him once. He'll probably be fine.

You walk over, pluck the Glawk from the ground, and remove the magazine and the chambered round, and then hurl it as hard as you can against a wall. You hustle out the door, and wave the doctor in. He comes in timidly, after hearing the gunshots, and looks down at the sprawled Jamal on the floor.

“You a doctor, doc?” you say to him.

“Yes, but- no, not a medical doc-”

“Great. Patch him up. I don't actually want him to die.” The doctor hustles over to the surprisingly quiet and motionless Jamal, and listens for breathing or a heartbeat. Jamal has neither, and the Doctor shakes his head sadly.

His own head, not Jamal's. That'd just be rude.

Other things that would be rude: coming to a clothing store and walking out without anything nice to wear to the Sunday Ball.

You look around you- this is a 'urban youths' outfitter store, with basketball jerseys and baggy pants everywhere. They do have a fairly wide selection of other things, though, so you can probably find what you want.

They also have women's clothes, but. You're a 6'2” 240 pound black man. No matter how much you want to be the little girl, it ain't happening.

The Doctor just looks at you, while you nonchalantly pick some clothes off the rack that are hopefully in your size.

“You shot him,” he says.

“He shot first.”

“Oh, great, so answering violence with more violence. That'll help Detroit.”

“Look, friend-o, my job is to violence people. I'm good at what I do. And if you don't like it, well. I was going to say 'you can leave', but you can't. I will break your legs and drag you with me if I have to.”

The Doctor just huffs at your reply. Oh well. At least he's not trying to run yet.

You put on a pair of baggy cargo pants, a shirt that says “Quikscell! It'll get something killed!”, and a hat with the tag still on and the brim still flat.

You remember back when you were a kid, and you wanted to keep the brim flat because it was cool that way. Then your mother said 'only nerds do that,' and bent the bills of all your hats.

HISTORY VINDICATES ME, MOTHER, you think, as you put the hat on.

Fully dressed, you turn to the Doctor. “Okay, so. We gotta split. Not the best of ideas to be hanging around a dead dude. The cops do come eventually.”

You and the Doctor leave the scene of what was basically a murder-robbery, and slip out the door. There are a few cops in the area, but they're hustling towards the Urbie, and can't be bothered to pay any attention to an 'urban youth' and... well, the Doctor just looks like a university professor. Sweater with elbow pads and everything.

You make your way to one of the abandoned subway entrances that you used to play in as a kid, and you and the Doctor disappear in the darkness.

Somebody follows you down, however...

You are now Motoko Meilleur.

Aboard the Wyrm, the intel briefing is about to start. Hours ago, the Wyrm surfaced, and launched a reconnaissance aircraft. All very routine and all. What wasn't routine, however, was the crash dive that immediately followed, and the call to battle stations.

Rumors began to flow around, and the word was that the Wyrm was getting bombarded from orbit.

Luckily, nothing seemed to hit, and battle stations were called off soon afterwards.

But now you're sitting in your chair, chilling, waiting for the intel officer to start the briefing.

She clears her throat, and starts.

“As many of you may have heard, the Wyrm has been fired upon from orbit. Luckily, none of the shots hit, but our surfaced array suggests that the Zhejiang has taken up an orbit that will keep it directly above us.”

Eighty grunts.

“This is bad news and good news. The bad news is that we can no longer safely surface. The good news is that if the Zhejiang is keeping station above us, it is no longer keeping station above Flint. This means that while there will be no air support for the mission, you're unlikely to get bombarded from orbit.”

Captain Shi stands up from his chair at the head of the briefing table.
>>
Did OP died?

>>35573717
“We're going to do a heavier insertion into Flint this time, due to the fact that we're actively expecting resistance, up to and including a lance of Battlemechs. If we wait any longer, they will likely reinforce Flint to the point where we'd have to commit significant forces to the extraction of the Doctor, and now, Andre. So this is our last chance.”

He looks at you and Eighty. “The two of you will be on this mission. The fast sub we have only has capacity for about a hundred tons. On the upside to this, however, is that it has Arrow IV tubes. It can launch while submerged, so you will be able to receive fire support without risking your extraction. To that end, I've laid out your options for 'Mechs for this operation.”

He gestures to the intel officer. She nods, and starts up the powerpoint, and describes the 'Mechs available to you.
>>
>>35573740

>Flea FLE-20. Fast, has stealth armor, and can engage from a surprisingly long range with its ER Medium lasers and Light PPC. Downside is that it's 20 tons. There is not much armor on anything of that size, so you'll not want to brawl. It also does not have a TAG to guide in artillery. This is probably the most stealthy option, however. Very few seismic sensors for mechs are tuned for such light machines. Surprisingly survivable, as it mounts a standard engine, not an XL.

>Sling SL-1H. Only 5 tons heavier than the Flea, but has double the armor, and a TAG to boot. Puts out more damage, but can't sink the heat as well as the Flea, so you'll probably not be able to put out more damage on average. Significantly shorter range on the weaponry as well. Upside, it's even faster than the Flea, and can jump. No stealth armor, however. Mounts an XL engine, so the loss of one torso section is the loss of the 'Mech.

>Raven RVN-3L. 35 tons. A classic recon mech. Has the best sensors out of any of the options with a Beagle Active Probe, so you'll have a better idea of when shit's coming to get you. 6/9 speed allows it to get out reasonably fast. Has a medium-ranged assortment of weapons, but if you can nail someone with the NARC, your SRMs will home in on it. And wreck someone's shit. It's also almost as well-armored as the Sling. Has ECM, but no stealth armor. Mounts an XL engine, so the loss of one torso section is the loss of the 'Mech.

>Sha Yu SYU-2B. Your heaviest option, but tied for speed with a 7/11 with the Sling. Can engage at the longest ranges with its ER Large Lasers. Has stealth armor. And a TAG to guide in artillery. The best armored of your choices as well. Mounts an XL engine, so the loss of one torso section is the loss of the 'Mech.

>Blackjack BJ-3. Eighty will be piloting this 'Mech.

Sha Yu. Stealth is good.

Changing >>35573835 to Sha Yu SYU-2B
>>
>>35573768

I'm going to have to go with the Sha Yu.

The Sha Yu is fast and armored and has a Guardian ECM system and stealth armor and a TAG. Seems like a great choice all-around. Not as stealthy as the Flea, but it can run faster and can be harder to hit if we activate its stealth armor. Gonna have to be careful if we traverse pavement, though.

It's a shame that none of these 'mechs have hands, though.
>>
>>35573768
Sha-Yu!
>>
My big worry was the Mounts an XL engine, so the loss of one torso section is the loss of the 'Mech. but getting hit in the flea sounds like death anyway
>>
>>35573922
>It's a shame that none of these 'mechs have hands, though.

Well if you look at the pics, the Black Jack, Sha Yu and Raven all have hands. Probably an error, but...
>>
>>35573768
The Sha Yu is pretty versatile, and I think having the blackjack in tow would spoil many of our chances for stealth anyway. We'll have to be careful with the heat management though.

No, none of them do. They are very obviously handless.
>>
>>35573768

>Flea FLE-20. Fast, has stealth armor, and can engage from a surprisingly long range with its ER Medium lasers and Light PPC. Downside is that it's 20 tons. There is not much armor on anything of that size, so you'll not want to brawl. It also does not have a TAG to guide in artillery. This is probably the most stealthy option, however. Very few seismic sensors for mechs are tuned for such light machines. Surprisingly survivable, as it mounts a standard engine, not an XL.
>>
>>35574069
I mean the pics here http://imgur.com/a/z4MzN The checkboxes for arms and hands are checked for the mechs I mentioned.
>>
>>35574004
>>35574103
The anon who is >>35574069 is right. None of them have hands. I just couldn't be arsed to uncheck the boxes for those mechs that didn't need me to uncheck them for the extra crit slots.

But you don't need hands for a charge attack or DFA!
>>
>>35574017
Having the Blackjack chillax in the Depth 2 water of the port for when you need him if shit goes south is a definite option.

I should map out Flint for the next thread.

I love VTOLs why do you not do this for me SSW
>>

SAW totally does, though.
>>
>>35574313
SAW, which is included with SSW, does do vehicles. Can't export to MM, but still a better vee-making program than MML.

>>35573768
>Sha Yu SYU-2B. Your heaviest option, but tied for speed with a 7/11 with the Sling. Can engage at the longest ranges with its ER Large Lasers. Has stealth armor. And a TAG to guide in artillery. I know it was at least independently invented back in the early days of BT on /tg/, I think even back when everything was on Hamachi and not IRC. Someone made the Tombo and posted the file for people to use. Used it myself once, did a great job picking off the enemy's BA.

– 13 Days After The Arrival of the CCS Zhejiang –

You're sitting in the cockpit of the Sha Yu. Appropriately named, given that that translates to 'shark' and you're making an infiltration by water.

“You good to go, Eighty?”

Eighty responds over the comm channel with a grunt. You're not sure if that means yes or no, but Eighty's probably got his shit together. Always has.

Your operator, Nell, pings you over the radio. “We're five clicks out from the port of Flint. You ready?”

“Yep. Get in, get Andre and the Doctor, and get out.”

“Aye. Do try not to cause too much collateral damage. We're fighting to prevent the impending Capellan occupation, and we can't be leveling cities to do that. That said, though, don't hesitate to call in artillery support. We don't want to lose you. And more importantly, we don't want to lose that Sha Yu. That thing costs eight million C-Bills.”

You laugh. “Hey, give me a list and I guarantee you I'll pick the most expensive thing there is on it.”

Nell scoffs. “You already did. Anyway, we're at the deployment zone. Stand by.”

You sit in your dimmed cockpit, in the fore 'Mech bay of the submarine. There's a light jolt as the sub settles upon the floor of the harbor. “Stand by for bay door opening.” A klaxon sounds, and the bay door in front of you opens up, and a torrent of saltwater floods in. Your mech pings as it registers its underwater state, and the sound of the air fans changes subtly as it switches from outside air to stored air.

“Mission is go,” Nell says.

You click your communicator twice to signal assent, and stride confidently out of the sub.

Well, considering BA has a max of 19 armor/internals, and a LTC does 20 to a hex, yeah, it wipes out BA real nice.

Cripples the fuck out of light and medium 'mechs too, but once you start taking on targets north of 60 tons or so, the Tombo starts to get rekt.

I had my LTC mounted on my Tombo on the side, because I'm a C-130 nerd, and nose-mounted would have just been too cheatery anyway.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one to have that idea, though.

You stumble a bit as you walk out of the 'Mechbay, but manage, barely, to keep the 'Mech upright. Falling and breaching your 'Mech would be the absolute worst start to this operation. Thankfully, nothing of the sort happens, and Eighty's showing off, by rotating his torso back and forth.

You feel like he's mocking you. Fuckin' Eighty.

You flip a couple of switches, and the Sha Yu hums inside audibly, as the Stealth Armor activates. It's not going to prevent people from getting visual lock on you, but it significantly reduces your 'Mech's electronic signature, preventing any but the most sophisticated aerial recon units from seeing you. And since tonight's weather is overcast, they sure as shit aren't getting any visual acquisition.

The only thing you really have to worry about is some asshole seeing you and calling the Cappies, or the seismic sensors that they probably have going off.

Okay, those are definitely going to go off. The Sha Yu is 40 tons. That's not a light mech.

You are now Andre Meilleur.

It's been two days since you've taken to the subway system. And despite being abandoned, they hold all manner of marvels.

Chief among them being... this.

“It's beautiful,” you say.

“Ain't it just?” The hobo who led you here in exchange for a couple hundred C-Bills smiles toothlessly. “Go on, then, show her what you've got.”

The Doctor just sighs, and follows you up.

You are now Motoko Meilleur. Both you and Eighty are at the bottom of the ramp leading up to the city, and you're only submerged enough to cover your mechs. Any further movement forward will strip you of the protection of the water.

>>
The CCS Zhejiang is an Impavido-Class Destroyer of fairly recent manufacture, the first run being in 3058. The Capellan Confederation has always had the smallest navy, with generally underwhelming designs like the lumbering, inelegant Du Shi Wang. However, their recent collaboration with the Free Worlds League and Word of Blake resulted in the Impavido Class: a surprisingly competent design, with a large contingent of Mech-sized energy weaponry and multiple LRM-20 bays to protect it from smaller threats, with two Gauss Rifles posing a large hole-making punch.

Its naval weaponry is no less impressive, mounting twelve Naval Autocannon/20s and six Naval Autocannon/10s. It also has ten Naval Laser 45s, where the Wyrm (which this campaign is based around) has a mere four Naval Laser 55s. The Zhejiang also has three Light Naval PPCs, which are its primary orbital bombardment weaponry, owing to their power and lack of need for ammunition. It also carries a sizable number of aerospace fighters- eighteen bays in all, including the Lightnings that strafed the Urbanmech in the last thread. Two DropShips also provide it with a way of getting forces on the ground. With almost twenty-eight thousand tons of cargo space, it has enough room for a planetary occupation force, provided they're not heavily resisted.

Finally, it's extremely well suited to long-range and long-term operations, making a year-long tenure in orbit around Detroit a simple proposition. Even though it's just a Destroyer, it has little to fear from most ground-based weaponry. Even other WarShips, it can either out-fight or outrun. All in all, it's ten billion C-Bills well spent. The main problem this class has is that the Capellan Confederation only has three- the Anhui and Xizang being the Zhejiang's sister ships. Two more are in the hands of the Free Worlds League, and one in the hands of the Word of Blake.
>>
>>35575965
It's really a shame this production run came to an end when it did, as this is a capable invasion platform against worlds like Detroit, who have no naval assets to fight it off.

We both independently developed a love for giant stompy robots, and became friends over that love. Regarding the touhou thing, he called me one day and said "hey you should write a touhou story to make these waifufag nerds angry". And so I did. And the first attempt was shit and awful and terrible.

The second attempt was Favors Owed, though I completely botched the fuck out of the ending. At least I finished it, though, so that's something.

You ever try the BNC-8S?
It's pretty fantastic, you leave it with your Zeuses (Zeusii?) in the second line and plink with the 10X and ERLL, then whenever a mech gets uppity and tries to pull close, or you just get bored, you shoot enough shit to jump to 9 heat and run up and cleave apart someone's side torso in one swipe of your Hatchet.
The C3 is pretty useless, though.
>>
>>35577319

>>
>>35577452

>>
>>35577518
There are rules for handheld and jettisonable weapons, if you want to go down that path. But you'll pay dearly in both crits and weight.

>>
>>35577562

>>
>>35577611
Swords deal 1 damage per every ten tons the 'mech weighs, plus an additional damage.

They are actually a really, really good idea on anything like 30 tons or lighter.

>>
>>35577662
Might be. Like I said, bad at thinking of non-hatchet melee.

Retractable blades are pretty cool though.
>>
>>35577581
I just like to design them because it's a challenge, the frustrating part is getting things like a 400mm bazooka to fit into BT systems designs. Thunderbolt launcher, obviously, but most things beyond machine guns and small lasers can't be lifted by 40~60 Ton designs without TSM, and TSM itself removes the only available slots in the legs. You can do some things, but not others, and there's very little interchangeability between designs that should be identical but for a few integral systems.
>>
>>35577677
Cool?
Absolutely.
But their usefulness is questionable.
At least they aren't drills, though. Who the fuck ever thought those would make good 'mech-sized weapons anyways?
I still find it hilarious that combines deal 1d6 damage to infantry.

>>35577737
TSM doesn't remove any slots in the legs. It's like ES or FF and can go in any open crit space.

TSM applies itself in black to all four limbs when the main systems tab (first page) checkbox is selected, in comparison AEM has a selector on the critslot tab for each limb.

Also, you actually can move black items around the critslots inside of their location.

If I deselect one bit of TSM on a single limb all of it is removed. I think the bookrules themselves will back this up, all myomer in a mech has to be regular or TSM unless it's a frankenmech and still don't quite grok all of their special rules.
>>
>>35578156
All myomer has to be the same type, but you can totally put all of your TSM crits in, for example, the left torso. Do you have the most up-to-date copy of SSW?

>>35578156
Nah. You're hitting something else, like CLPS or Nullsig's checkbox. TSM is in the dropdown menu under 'enhancements'.
You can move it around to different sections.
Make sure you're using at least tournament rules and are at least in the Invasion era.
>>
>>35578235
>up-to-date
If it's changed in the last two or three months, then no, that might be the issue.

Mech Lifting Capabilities
>10% normal
>20% TSM

Lesse, for a human of 150lb, that's be 15/30lbs respectively, any weapon at that weight is huge, but for a mech, only the smallest weapons can be used, requiring weight for ammunition or power amplifiers and heat sinks.

What happens if you give a weapon less heat sinks than the heat it generates? I know the rules disallow it, but wouldn't you need to check for shutdown and ammo explosions like normal?
>>
>>35578340
Technically couldn't you build a rule that takes a too-heavy weapon into account as something similar to external cargo?

Also, why not one-handed hand-helds? Your insistence on using BT to not play BT has gotten me thinking.
>>
>>35578340
It doesn't work.
It just doesn't work.
You can use chem lasers in handhelds just fine without sinkage, though. The LCL is a pretty good weapon, and an array of MCLs can deal a shitload of damage for not much weight.

Fuck, now I want to give my Archers a handheld that consists of 5 MCLs and .5 tons of ammo and armor as a holdout weapon.
>>
>>35578340
Handhelds are like vees, you only add sinks for energy weapons, and you MUST give them the right number SHS. If somehow you broke the game and put one in a handheld without the right number of sinks, there's no rules that make it function any differently. Of course, there are the rules that say it has to have the right number of SHS to be used at all, so basically: no.
>>
>>35578421
Whoops.
I forgot the Archer was 70 tons.
I suppose 5 MCLs and 1 ton ammo is good too.
>>
>>35578440
Half-ton lots of armor are possible.
>>35578422
Right but if you approach it as the problem of
>what happens to a non-mech system when it loses a heat-sink?
and
>can we apply that to non-mech systems built with fewer than the minimum amount of heat sinks?
I'd posit that you'd have to track heat level as if it were a mech, ignoring life support rolls and movement modifiers.

Granted, that's hilariously unworkable for an actual TT game with more than one or two lances of mechs using handhelds and undersinked vees, but theoretically I think it works out.
>>
>>35578497
They can't lose sinks, though. The sinks on tanks and handhelds and anything that doesn't track heat are not damageable equipment.
>>
>>35578497
>Half-ton lots of armor are possible.
Yeah, I know. But it's not like getting three extra shots is all that worth it. It's just something for them to pick up and use for a bit after they empty their LRM bins.
>>
>>35578516
What happens when they're hit by things like heat-causing weapons? Do they just take extra damage?

>>35578549
True, how does damage to handhelds work again? IIRC, same as external cargo, right?
>>
>>35578575
Basically, yeah.
1/10th the mech weight, can't use arm or torso weapons while lugging it around. Need two hands.
It really helps even out older mech designs. Give your Spider an LRM-5, for example. Or four RL-10s for your bugmechs.
>>
>>35578575
Anything that would add heat to a mech explicitly defines what it does when it hits a non-heat-tracking unit. There is no situation in the rules as written where a unit that does not track heat can gain heat. And as the rules are written, if they did somehow (from some poorly-worded custom equipment, perhaps) gain heat, it would do nothing as they don't track it.
>>
>>35578636
Can you halve the weight limit and get a single-handed mech weapon? Yes, I know, the rules only cover two-handed things and hatchets.

That's also an odd category, I never quite understood putting a hatchet on a mech, the fluff describing it being handheld, compared to a limb or rebar, taking only a single hand to hold, and yet it being mounted in a critslot. same with things like swords and maces, they seem to be very heavy handheld weapons, but seem to be mounted internally like a mech-lance

But, heat-producing systems clearly need heat sinks on objects that don't track heat for a reason, the way vees are described makes it seem like they have a feature similar to a partial wing to handle basic operations outside of special systems that actively produce heat. The foundation for the logic of "undersinked systems need to track heat all of a sudden" is cogent if not entirely sound.

I'm not saying it /should/ be a rule, but that a similar houseruling to the effect isn't something that would break the game beyond some extra bookkeeping and unsuitable for large games.

Same thing for 5%/10% lifting capacity to single-limbs and one-handed hand-helds.

I'm not asking, would you include this in a tournament, but would it be an interesting and useful Level III rule?

Damn this quest is giving me Mech Engineer Quest flashbacks.

Any chance of seeing a Phobos making an appearance?

Oh man, I wish Anontech's life would stop being so shitty to him.

Found this baby on sarna.net

Is Anontech still around? Last I heard from him was last year saying he didn't think his timezone would be good for questing with his job and he got like 15 people telling him they'd play then, I haven't heard anything since, I miss that glorious bastard.

I remember him coming on months and months ago to apologize for disappearing, everyone but one asshole gave him our sympathies for the loss of a family member and difficult job constraints. Other'n that, I have been as much in the dark as you have. Rabbit's a damn fine successor, himself.

Yeah I remember that, his grandma passed away and he got a big job and had to move, that was what ended the quest originally.

I hope things go well for him and that he one day returns for more MEQ fun.

Right, until then we can put all of our hopes and dreams for inflated expectations of MEQ onto Rabbit's Detroit Quest!

DQ, we need to rob a grocery store of its ice cream, the colored man's ice cream, watermelon

Happy to give you Liao death machines to terrorize us and our characters with. Don't forget the characteristic SKREEEE when one uses its JJs after it finds us and turns on the fusion whistles

IIRC, didn't some asshole make a power armor to play parasite to these fuckers and gave it JJs, mimetic armor, a claw, mag clamps, and some nastier version of a machine gun, turning a pack of them into infantry rape machines?
