Judicature looks to you, waiting for you to tell her what to ask.

You shrug. “Start off with the small stuff. Interests, age, embarrassing stories, that kinda stuff.” You already knew most of that stuff, but asking just the things you wanted to know would certainly be suspicious.

Judi turns to your brother, who has taken another bite of the apple. She remains silent for a second before asking, “So, what's your name?”

Your brother looks concerned. He glances towards you and you offer him a nod. “Zachery.” Your brother answers, “Zachery Grant.”

“Pleased to meet you, Zachery.” She says, “I'm Judith Gherardi.” Her entire statement feels strangely formal. You can't help but get the feeling she's practiced saying that.

“Well, it's nice to know your real name, Judith.”

“You too.”She responds, then pauses. “Uhh... so... How old are you?”

“Twenty.” He responds, something that you KNOW is a lie.

Zachery is only 18, but you're not quite sure why he'd lie about his age, especially such a specific age. You'd understand him saying he was 21, because then he could drink, but 20 was just a weird age to proclaim yourself to be.

You brother coughs to get your attention. You must be wearing your knowledge on your face, but Judi simply appears confused.

“How about,” Your brother asks, “I get to ask you a question now?”

“That seems fair.” Judi replies.

“Okay. What do you see in my brother?”

The duelist looks up to you with blush and smile. “He's really smart, and creative, and nice.” She looks away. “But he can be mean some times.”

“He can be an asshole when he's mad.”

“Hey.” You say, giving your brother a stern look.

“I'm just saying!” He responds.

You continue to give him an ugly look, but Judicature puts her hand in yours, which calms you down quite a bit.
>>
>>35570484
“So,” The duelist asks, “What about you and King? What do you see in him?”

“Her.” Your brother corrects.

“S-sorry.” Judi covers her mouth with her free hand. “What do you see in her?”

“She's really kind, although, you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at her; she has a tendency to be very serious business nowadays.” He pauses. “I also like how she knows a lot more than I do. I feel like I can ask her about just about anything and she'll know what to say.” A goofy smile appears on his face. “I like it when we're together alone and we get to talk about all kinds of things, like medieval poetry and how we should order the raids and the cultural implications of video games and when I was all tied up, and she held me and told me she loved me and then...” He appears to have just remembered he was talking to someone, as he quite nervously looks between you and Judi.

Judi's face is quite red. She seems to be embarrassed for your brother. Or maybe embarrassed with him would be more accurate. “Umm...” Is all she can muster.

“So!” He shouts, “Where did you two meet!?”

“In South Angel!” She responds quickly, “It was after the databasing when Ambrosis said he was heading to Big Apple!” She pauses. “I mean Anthony!” She glances to you. “Unless you don't want me saying that!”

You hold up your hands to get her to slow down and calm herself. “It's fine. It's only me, you, and my brother, why would I mind?”

The two of them seem to have calmed down.

“So, umm...” Judicature continues, “Where did you and King meet, Zachery?”
>>
>>35570493
“In game, actually.” He responds, “I was jumping through town portals, looking at all the major cities, and then she just pointed at me and demanded I join her party, so I did. Apparently they were looking for an off-tank for the Baliel raid. I had never actually been in a raid, but she said it was okay because I was only an off tank. Flash forward to the final raid boss, I actually messed up my rotation, lost aggro, and everyone was dying. I was down to 20 hp when I actually killed the thing. Everyone was so excited over the fact that we actually killed it that no one seemed to care about the whole failing-to-do-my-job thing.” He pauses. “It probably wasn't the best that I wasn't using voice chat during the fight, but... my voice was... umm.... squeaky at the time.”

You try not to laugh, but end up failing. Your brother seems quite ashamed, but you just pat him on the head. “It's okay. You're not a squeaky voiced teen anymore. I'm a bit concerned that your girlfriend was after a squeaky voiced teen.”

“I...” He coughs, “May have lied about my age... to her.”

You pat him on the head again. “God damn it, Zachery.”

“Sorry.”

“Umm...” Judi interrupts, “So... What does King think of you?”

“What do you mean?” Your brother asks, “She loves me. Or, at least tells me she does.”

“Okay.” She responds, “Are you sure you're not just her fucktoy?”

You face palm. Hard. “Judi... You can't just ask someone if they're a fucktoy.”

“Oh...” Judi responds. “I'm sorry. I just wanted to be sure...”

“Can't...” Your brother begins, “Can't it be both?”

Judi looks to you, but you can only offer a shrug. You have no idea how the politics of their relationship works. Part of you doesn't really want to know.
>>
>>35570511
“Umm... Oh!” The duelist claps her hands. “What do you think of your brother?”

Vertigo rubs his chin for a while. Then he finally proclaims, “He's my brother.”

“I don't think that's what she means, Zachery.” You respond.

“I know, but... I don't really know how to say it other than that. You're my brother, in all meanings of the word.”

“Huh.” Is all you can think to reply with. After a couple of seconds of thought you add in, “So, what do you want to do now? And don't answer with something like 'Whatever you want to do.' In all seriousness, what do you want to do right now?”

He scrunches up his face in thought. He stands there fore quite a while before finally saying, “Nothing, really. Wait! Okay. Umm... Well...” He sighs, “I'd like it if you and King could meet.” He pauses, “Not... not because of her offer, but because... you know... I just want you two to meet. I love her and... and you're the only family I've got.”

“You want me to call her?” You ask, “Me talking to King?”

“Well, if you want to, I won't stop you.” Your brother responds.

“I'm not asking for permission, I'm asking if you want me too.”

“I... Well, if you do do it, I wouldn't mind.”

“Zachery.” You cross your arms. “It's a yes or no question. Do you want me to call King?”

He lets out a soft, “Yeah.”

You open up your friend list and hit the Add a Friend button. You stare for a moment at the text box; you have no idea how to type out a name on this thing. Your brain calculates the optimal strategy and comes to a conclusion: The HUD exists in your head, and is controlled with your mind, therefore if you can just imagine typing out the name, it should type out the name in the box, theoretically.

You focus as hard as you can, perhaps a little too hard, and imagine the letters K-I-N-G into the box. Lo and behold, it has worked.

Now if only you knew the rest of her user name.

“What's her name again?” You ask.

“KingAzebo.” Your brother answers.

“Mind spelling that for me?”

“K-I-N. G-A. Z-E. B-O.”

You spell out the name and hit the add button. The name is added to your list and instantly appears as online: KingAzebo. 90 Guardian. Private Zone. <Swich Licour>. [Call]

Your mental cursor hovers over the call button. You sigh, not really sure what you would say.

Fuck it. You hit the button before you can think of a reason not to.

RING

RI-

“Hello.” She responds in a very business manner, “Thank you for calling me, but if this is regarding the sales or purchase of food, please call Confidence. That's Confidence, spelled C-O-N-”

You interrupt her with the first thing that comes to your mind, “So, I heard you're banging my brother.”

“Ooooooh~!” She her voice changes to one more excited, “The infamous brother!”

“I take it he talked about me?”

“Sometimes.”
>>
>>35572385
“Hmm.” You're not quite sure how to take that. You'll have to ask your brother about it later.

“So, why have you called?”

“Well, my brother always wanted us to sit down and talk, so I thought I'd call you while I have the time.”

“Okay.” She replies, “I've got the time. Feel free to ask me anything, Ambrosis.”

“Call me-” You stop yourself. “Do... do you know my brother's name?”

“Zachery? Yeah, I know.” She then whispers, “I also know your real name is Anthony.”

“Hmm...” Is all you can respond you. You feel a bit awkward, not knowing her name, but her knowing yours.

“My name's Kim, in case you were curious.”

“Ah. Well, that makes things a bit less awkward.”

“Don't like people handing out your name?”

“Not to people I don't know.”

“I can understand. It's a bit strange, though, having two names. We're like ancient creatures with a known name and a true name. Hmm... There seems to be a lot of parallels there. Knowing someone's true name gives you a certain power over them. I wonder what the folk magic motif would mean.”

“What?”

“Oh, sorry, I was thinking about how us having two names, a screen name and a true name, puts us into a strange position that mirrors the laws of certain folklore magic, namely if you know the true name of a person or creature you can control them. I mean, with parallels like that, it has to mean something, doesn't it?”

“No?” You get the distinct feeling that this woman is absolutely insane.

“You're right. Now that we've discussed it, it probably is more of a commentary on the systemic problems of literary analysis... Although, now that I've said that...”

“We should get off this subject.”

“I agree. Placing the meaning of this conversation into an infinite loop of reversing and rereversing the meaning is extremely problematic.”
>>
>>35572429
You try to think of something to say. “So... How long have you and my brother been going out?”

“Almost a year now. I'm glad I asked about his real age, though. Everyone could tell he wasn't 18 when he joined, but he was a good enough tank and we needed one.” She chuckles, “I'm also glad I turned him down when he was actually 18. He needed time to age, and teens are terrible people. Of course, saying that, I did accept his offer when he was 19, so I suppose I'm a bit of a hypocrite.”

[ ] “My brother's currently 18.” Explain Zachery's true age.

Although he's now whatever age his character was, isn't he? So he's probably physically between 18-28 years old.

Probably been through enough shit given King's kinks and the MIB stuff to shave a year or two off of his lifespan too.

“So...” There is something you need to know. Something that is probably more important than anything else you could ask about. “What do you think about levers?”

“Levers?”

“Yes.” You reiterate, “Levers.”

“Levers... Probably the most basic form of a mechanics. Possibly the first machine ever. A constant binary state. Up or down. Right or left. Top or bottom. It is symbolic of our perception of the world. Our minds constantly boil everything down into binaries. Something is either A or B, X or Y, Up or Down, but that world view is too simplistic. It helps us with our small jobs, like moving rocks or pulling out nails, but it alone is capable of little; it must have something else, something it can alter, to reach its true potential. Much in the ways that our perceptions rely on and modify the perceptions of others, the lever requires other things to ring true.” She pauses a moment. “I guess what I am trying to say, is that there is nothing to think about when it comes to a lever. Levers by themselves simply are, it is only when placed in the context of another object does it have real connotation.”

“O... okay.” You respond. “So what you're saying is... Levers don't matter, only the things they're attached to matter?”

“No, because like the lever, the object it is attached to has no meaning alone. Only when lever and object are merged into a single machine is meaning produced.” She pauses. “So... I guess that means meaning is when multiple ideas work together to create an action. Or maybe a narrative? Hmm... Are narratives machines made of idea parts? That sounds like something that could work.”
>>
>>35575642
“Uhuh...” You respond. She certainly had an unique view on levers, but you felt she was being too neutral, after all, the beauty of a lever should be so evident that she should outright admit to its magnificence. Perhaps she hates them, but is pretending not to for the sake of your brother. At least she is trying, you suppose. “So, who are the big players over there?” You ask, “I mean, how are things over there, politically?”

“Depends on who you ask, but...” She responds, “There's the <UFFL>, who just showed up out of Brotherhood.”

“<UFFL>?”

“The Ultimate Fantasy Football League. A bunch of guys from Brotherhood who are trying to put together some kind of football league. They are currently trying to put a team together for Big Apple. Then there's the <Family>, who seem to be recruiting people left and right. Their reason for it is always changing, though. We just want more friends. We need more farmers. We need more people for football. I'm not so sure how I feel about them. They feel suspicious, but they've been buying up a lot of our food to put on recruitment parties, so I shouldn't complain.”

“Anyone else?”

“Well, there's some guys from the <Morning Star> around. Not a lot, but enough to act as a semi-police force. It's pretty much five guys with horses. They probably couldn't stop anything major happening, but they have been keeping the peace so far. Oh, there's also <NagaStoleMyBike>. They're pretty big, but they're not really organized. They most likely joined for the silly name and nothing else. <Plasticine Peasants> have been busy attempting to get raid ready, strangely enough. I guess being cutting edge doesn't stop with the apocalypse.”

“Huh. That all?”

“As far as I seen? Pretty much. Nothing seems to be happening, other than a couple of thefts and tiny riots.”
>>
>>35575662
“Riots?”

“Only tiny ones. Pretty much people complaining about food prices. Generally either the <Morning Star> start dragging people or the <Family> just buy the rioters lunch. I really wish they didn't do that, though. They're pretty much telling people that if they riot they'll get free food. Pavlov's rioters?”

“Huh. So how is the food business?”

“Intense, but not in a good way. I'm just glad I don't have any competition. Have you ever talked down a bunch of hangry rioters? It is not a pretty sight. Especially considering the complete lack of force I can use against them. There was a point where we ran out of ingredients right at the afternoon rush. Things were not pretty.” She sighs. “I can't wait for when things mellow out and things will just run on their own.”

“I don't think that's how business works.”

“A girl can dream, can't she?”

“I suppose so.”

“So, how are things with you? Got any crazy business ventures going on?”

“You could say that. I've got somethings in the works. Mostly travel stuff.”

“Sounds interesting.”

“It is. We've already got a giant land-galleon roaming the American plains.” You pause. “So, what do you think about my brother?”

“What do I think of your brother...” She echoes, “I think I find his company calming, when he is not furious over nothing. I assume he will quickly grow out of that, though.” She echoes again, “What do I think of Zachery...? I think he cares a lot about how others think about him, but too much so. He has this... NEED to be seen in a certain light, and I think that will be his downfall, trying to impress others rather than doing what he wants.” She pauses. “I also think he looks cute in a dress.”

“Uhh...”
>>
>>35575681
“And in ... provocative armor. Did you see him in his special armor? He was so cute being so embarrassed. I told him to pug a raid while wearing it, just to see how they would react. Did you hear about this? There was a Puerto Rican guy named Felipe in the pug who had cheated with his best friend's wife. I guess there was so much drama after that that no one noticed Vertigo. Too bad.”

You begin to wonder how many lies your brother has told this woman, seeing as Felipe was a random voice Canis adopted to simulate the chaos of leading a raid because your brother was supposed to become a raid leader the day of the databasing.

“Say...” You ask, “How long has my brother been a raid leader?”

“I want to say... At least six months.”

“I... see...” You glance over at your brother, who seems absolutely confused.

“So, how long do you think it will take to get to Big Apple?”

idk if i would trust her to give an honest opinion. I mean, she isnt very smart in the first place. She is a scholar, an inventer, an adventurer, a gentlewomen, and a gamer.

I just want to speed up so things aren't too late.
Truth be told I'm just relieved our brother is away from that clusterfuck-to-be.
>>
>>35576167
“Maybe a month or two.” You admit, “We're not really in a rush and I'm trying to create industry along the way.”

“Oh.” She sounds disappointed. “Well, industry is probably more important in the long run.” You glance over to your brother and he seems equally if not more saddened.

You sigh and roll your eyes. “I guess if we really needed to rush over there we could make it in two weeks at the most.” Your brother's hope revives and you can only rub your brow at the coming complication this plan will bring.

“I don't suppose there is something I can do to make you rush over here.” She asks.

“Unless the moon is crashing into the earth in one month's time, and I'm the only one who can stop it, no I don't think so.”

She sighs. “Well, I will be sure to remember that anyways. Hopefully I'll think of something to get you two here faster.” She pauses, “Did Zachery tell you about my offer for-”

“I think I'm going to need more time to consider that.” You deflect the offer, “Me and Judi have only just started and-” The duelist squeezes your hand at the mention of her name. Your fingers interlace.

“Say no more.” King responds, “I understand. You need time to yourselves.”

You decide to dodge responding to that. “Anyways, I need to go. My brother's trying to get my attention.

Your brother looks confused. “No I'm -CLICK- not.”

You you try to think of what to say next. “Judi, can I talk with my brother alone?”

“Did I do something wrong?” She responds.

“No, not you.”

“Oh. I'll... I'll be below deck if you need me.”

“Okay.”

She lets go of your hand and walks down the stairs. You wait for the sound of the iron door to close before you say, “Where am I even supposed to start with you?”

“With how much you love me cause I'm your brother?”

You place a hand on his shoulder and say, “I love you cause you're my brother, but you're fuckin' up hard! Real hard!”

“How hard's real hard?”

“Well, it's not like it matters-”

“It matters! I matters a whole fucking lot! I can't tell you WHEN this will come out, and it WILL come out, and when it does, she will drop you ass like... like something that is commonly dropped.”

“A bad habit.”

“Nah, old habits die hard.”

“A ball?”

“You don't really drop a ball, unless you do, but dropping the ball means you messed up.”

“The bass?”

“Sure. She's going to drop you like the bass.”

“Well, that doesn't sound so bad.”

“It IS bad! It's the kind of bass that you don't want to drop! Like, everything's really chill and you're relaxing until the bass drops and you remember you're listening to dubstep and you cry tiny babby tears because you remember you like dubstep!”

“That's a pretty hardcore drop.”

“It is.”

“Indeed.”

“Quite.”

“Yes.”

“Hmm.”

“Hm.”

“Look. You need to tell her the truth.”

“I... I want to, but... At first I did it to impress her, but it didn't work and she saw right through me. So, I tried to wipe the slate clean, but she asked me what my real age was and... The guild has an 18+ policy to stop drama and...”

“And you lied and now you're about to start drama.”

“But I don't want to start drama.”

You sigh.

As captcha says: LORD guirbio.

A cautionary tale about a once-respected player who always lied and wove a cocoon of deception and lies about himself. When it all came crashing down, he survived unharmed, but everyone thought he was a huge asshole afterwards! He never had any friends after that, and such was their disdain for him that he didn't have any enemies either! Everyone was so pissed off that they decided to immortalize him in a cautionary tale and ignored him for the rest of his life. Such was his shame that had to buy a new account, but he always outed himself due to his asinine ways which he never mended! Then he was perpetually mocked on the forums of whichever game he transitioned to.

“Just tell her. If not for your sake, then for hers.”

“What if I-”

“No what ifs! Just tell her! The longer you wait, the more it's going to hurt her to know you were lying all along!”

He stares at his feet for quite a while before finally saying, “Do you think she'll break up with me?”

“I don't know, but I do know that telling her the truth will be worth it in the long run. Trust me.”

“I don't want to be alone.”

You sigh and put both hands on his shoulders. “Look at me.”

He looks up.

“You won't be alone.” You say, “If she breaks up with you, I'll still be here for you. If she breaks up with you, we'll just go into town, get drunk, and hook you up with some girl. Simple as that.”

“You promise?”

“Yes.”

He sighs. “Okay. I'm going to do it.”

You take your hands off of his shoulders and say, “Good luck.”

“Thank you.”

You stretch out your arms with a yawn and say, “Alright, I'll leave you to it. In the mean time I have an entire trade industry to build.”

You open up your friend list and call Judicature.

“Hello?” She answers.

“Hey, we're done up here.”

“Alright. I'm coming up.”

Judi arrives on the deck moments later. You give her a kiss with a “I missed you.”

She giggles, “Isn't something like that too cutesy for you?”

“I thought I'd try it out. Don't like it?”

“I don't know. Let me try it again.”

You kiss her once more. “I missed you.”

“Mmm... Maybe one more time.”

You hold her tight against you and kiss her over and over again. “I missed you.”

“I like that one the best.”

Before you can respond, though, you hear your brother say a nervous, “Hi... Umm... Can we talk?”

You take Judi's hand and say, “We should get going.”

“Where are we going?” She asks.

“To talk to Lilac.” You answer, “I still need to see her about the airship designs.”

Before you descend the ladder you take one last look at your brother.

He notices your glance and gives you a nod. You think he's going to be alright.

Back in the city, you spot a certain dwarf sorceress on a bench, eating an apple.

“Where'd you get that?” You ask. You were the one who bought the last apple, after all.

“I bought a whole cart of them.” She answers. “All but one, anyways. Want one?”

“Sure.” You respond.

“Okay.” Replies Judicature.

She tosses you and Judi an apple each and goes back to munching her own.

You sit down next to Lilac. “So, how're those blueprints coming along.”

“Well, I have good news and bad new.”

“What's the good news?”

“I have three designs ready for you to look at.”

“What's the bad news?”

“I have no way of getting us a steady supply of helium, but with a little lightning and water we can get hydrogen, so...”

“Hindenburg.”

“Exactly.”

You tap your head with your fist before relenting with, “Okay. Show me the plans.”

She hands you three pieces of paper. She points to the one on top. “This one is a nice, light craft that can move about quickly. Notice how little there is to the hull? For trading it'll be great, but the only problem is that if anyone, ANYONE, wants to stop it, it's gone. Hell, one poorly handled case of fire pots and the entire thing goes up in flames.”

You take a moment to look over the image of the ship before turning to the next page. You are met with the image of what looks like a warship. Armored decks, weapon ports, and scaffolding around the side.

“This next one is much sturdier and-”

“It's a war ship.”

“I was going to say it's more of a passenger ship. It allows for more people, but less storage.”

“And all the tiny circles marked weapon ports?”
>>
>>35579944
“Well, it's still a Hindenburg, so I was operating under the idea that people are more important than cargo, so it should have increased defenses.”

“Wouldn't the cargo ships also have people on them, though?”

“Yeah, but they would have less people.”

“Right, but anyone could take it down, right? So why not fix that?”

“Well, the second one doesn't really fix it so much as convince people it's fixed.”

“So, there's pretty much no saving anyone ever?”

“Unless you find a way to make the webbing immune to fire, no.”

“Why don't we just add a second layer over the spider web and make it out of fireproof cloth?”

Lilac looks dumbfounded. She looks at you, then to the blueprints, then back to you, then back to the blueprints. “Why didn't I think of that?”

“Because I'm amazing.” You respond, “Or you were too focused on making three different designs and being awesome. That's also a thing.” You feel Judicature place her hand on your leg. You look over to her and she kisses you. You respond with, “Thank you.”

“Oh my.” Lilac comments, “Kissing in public already?”

“Should I...” The duelist responds with a bright red face, “Should I not do that?”

“Oh, no.” Lilac says with a mischievous grin, “It's as long as you two aren't... uhh... wink wink nudge nudge say no more!”

“Say no more, say no more!” Judi responds, “Know what I mean! Nudge nudge.”

“Is he interested in... uhh... photography?”

Judi waggles an outspread hand.

“Oh! Wicked! He's wicked, he's wicked!”

You can't take this madness anymore. “What the hell are you two talking about?”

“Monty Python.” Judicature responds.

Lilac adds a nod.
>>
>>35579953
You blink a couple of times in absolute confusion. “So, about this last blueprint?”

You turn to the last page and see what is not so much a ship so much as a bunch of parts. Walls, frames, all kinds of things.

“This one,” Lilac explains, “Is... well... It's not so much an airship so much as a bunch of parts for a modular airship. See, you've got the base frame, but other than that you just need the right configuration of walls and such. I thought of this when I was wondering about mass production. In short, we would only need to produce this type of ship and we could use it for cargo, transport, hell, with the right parts we could make actual war ships. If someone wanted to, they could take people on a trip in one direction, and then at the next port switch out the parts for a cargo ship, and take a hull full of cargo on its return trip.”

“That's actually really bad ass.”

“Yeah, but structurally, it'd be weaker than, say, a hull made of a single piece of material.”

“Hmm....”

I was more going off of expansion = leaks = explosion, but it would presumably have a material that made it gas tight all the way around, so that probably wouldn't be a problem.

>[ ] Modular for life. Customize everything! The Linux of airships!
I have no idea what the appeal of the cargo design is. From what I read it seems to be a light and fragile but fast design. Which is handy for a trading empire, but with our guild being so young and largely unaware of what hurdles it will face, it would be much more prudent to start with a more flexible ship design.

I expect Judi to be on top, Tiny
>>
>>35580585
You guessed right, friend.
>>
>>35580146
Shep, I just got back from family business, but if I could I'd like to make a few suggestions to the ship options.

Perhaps we could reduce the risk of fire damage by having the many chambers of hydrogen gas encompased by envelopes of flame retardant gas. I've heard of ammonia being used this way in hydrogen filled balloons. If we create said envelopes with a layer of fire proof fabric on both sides, individual chambers of hydrogen could catch fire and the ship could continue to fly at least until it could safely land for repairs. If we go for the modular ship I imagine this kind of system would be pretty straight forward to implement.

While I'm on the subject of the modular ship design, what exactly makes it structurally weaker than the other models? Is it because Judi's design is for attaching multiple swappable segments of a lighter than air craft into a single airship? Because if all three of her designs are for rigid frame airships, like zeppelins, could we build the ship with single fixed frame within which compartments could be swapped out as needed?

If we could build the modular ship with a 'skeleton' of sorts, different compartments could be attached or removed without compromising the integrity of the entire ship. Whichever design we choose, the decks accessible to the crew will only compose a tiny fraction of the ship's total volume. Most of it will be a shaped gas bag. It wouldn't be to much of a leap to make the decks, cargo hold, and gas chambers configurable to a certain extant would it?
>>
>>35580696
While a skeleton is quite sturdy, a single piece is still sturdier. What makes multiple compartments less sturdy is the thing that attaches them to the skeleton, since connecting joints will never be as strong as a single homogenous piece.

I like your flame retardant gas idea, though.
>>
>>35580723
What I was thinking of was of having these compartments built with their own frames, made of the same material as the that of the aircraft. The compartments could interlock with the frame and fit into an empty space within the ship, and secured with deadbolts. If the compartments had standardized dimensions we could swap em out very easily.
>>
>>35580836
that's what I'm saying. Deadbolts will never have the same strength:weight ratio as single-piece designs.

Modular design will always be weaker unless you can get some ancient chinese origami-geometry going to make things fit together without the need for deadbolts.
>>
>>35580869
We've got an engineer here, surely we should be able to figure this issue out?
Hell, we've even got literal magic we can throw at the problem.
>>
>>35581048
If we make it stronger with magic, that doesn't stop modular from being weaker COMPARED to single-piece...
>>
>>35581048
There we go. I'm hoping that Shep will have Ambrosis use at least some of these ideas in his discussions with Lilac over how to build the ship. Personally I think her designs are a little focused on the industrial aspect of construction, and were intended to be replicated en mass. I think we should aim to tailor the schematics exclusively for the role we want it to play, we can worry about mass production later.
>>
>>35581222
I agree, but once we get to the Big Apple, mass production will be pretty easy. We just need to find trustworthy crafting guilds and honest buyers.
>>
>>35581881
>trustworthy crafting guilds
>honest buyers
As a native of New York, I can tell you right now that is going to be far, far more trouble than we need right now. Doubly so considering city wide riots are imminent.

Even then, we've already got a guild capable of constructing monolithic vehicles in the mid-west, and now a ship capable of crossing the plains rapidly and safely. I think the Big Apple is a good place to engage in extensive trade and gain the materials we need, but I fail to see why we should move our production centers to the East Coast. Let's keep that to the rust belt for the time being.
>>
>>35582055
It takes two weeks to get materials from place to place.

There might be riots, but as probably the largest trading hub in the entire world, setting up shop there wouldn't be so bad. As long as we get someone like the Morning Stars or Vertigo's guild to protect our franchise.

By honest buyers, I meant people who can actually pay, in cash, because we are a neutral party, we just sell weapons.
>>
>>35582106
Anon, buddy you are woefully underestimating just how ugly riots in this town can get. When shit blows over, shit gets pretty fucking ugly fast. Pic related.

And two weeks isn't that big a wait, considering we're measuring cargo moved by the ton. Keeping our primary construction sites in Boulder also has the added bonus of putting us basically smack dab in the middle of the North American continent. We can ship silk up from Pueblo and whatever else we need for our fleet from the coasts. The territory itself is now as secure as we can make it from both landers (haha fuck your mad king and his fairy shit) and adventurers. This is all on top of the fact that the facilities and workers needed to do everything are already based there. Ideal site, I'd say.

We also need to level up. Come on guys we've been level 40 for literal weeks now.
