You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Much larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are also that much more dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they still don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

A month ago, Celestino sent a letter to his children in Granache telling them that his knights (along with Anatole) had managed to root out the last of the would-be assassins from their hiding place out in the woods not too far from Marconetti's capital city. You haven't heard much major news from there since then, much to your dismay... Luciana says that no news is good news, but Emilio seems to be getting more and more restless the longer he's forced to be away from home.

As for Elena, she's doing just fine over at Sir Gregory's place, playing with his two sons and goofing off with Rana and Reya. Luciana was worried that she'd be worried about things back home, but the steady flow of letters from her parents and Andreas seem to be enough to keep her from getting homesick.

And you... well, you've been busier than usual. In addition to your usual bodyguard duties, you've also been continuing to work on you swordsmanship with Arnaud. He's managed to (painfully) break you out of a lot of your bad habits, along with helping you out with some more advanced techniques...

This isn't too much slower than the 'maintaining' option. Might be worse in the case of Holy Shine where we would appreciate the added reaction time of having the spell stored in advance, but the versatility of being able to choose what spell we'd require on the fly is probably worth it.

Arnaud put a great deal of effort in teaching you how to cast a spell while attacking at the same time. While it seemed like a pretty simple concept to grasp, actually managing to split your mental focus between your swordwork and conceptualizing Script properly was a lot harder than you expected.

The plan was to continue on from there and show you how to hold a spell in reserve while attacking since it was the obvious step from there, but then Arnaud took notice of your sword's more... interesting qualities. Though it's still nowhere as easy to manipulate as your bracelet, you've gotten quite good at changing your sword's shape and so he thought it might do you well to take advantage of this in combat.

The ability to extend your sword's range midswing is definitely a useful thing to have... though Arnaud did warn you that its effectiveness is decreased somewhat if the enemy knows that you're actually able to use it. For this reason, he suggested that you save it as a "last resort" measure if you're not certain that changing the length would immediately result in a victory.

Niklaus also said something similar about "trump cards" when you mentioned it to him.

In addition to this, you've also figured out how to make an opponent's edge "sink" slightly into your own blade, which serves to both throw them offguard and also gives you an opening to disarm them entirely. The testing of this was the first and only time that Emilio took part in your training.

Despite his interest, the poor kid really isn't suited for swordsmanship.

Recalling how useful it proved to be back in Marconetti, your first priority was to gain more control of yourself while using Tailwind. Fortunately, that in-battle experience using it made that task much easier than it would have been otherwise, and it only took about a week and a half to more or less be able to maneuver around while it's in effect without crashing into everyone.

Though you do feel kind of bad for the castle staff who you scared senseless during your "victory lap" around the castle after
finally getting it.

With that out of the way, it was time to teach you actual new spells for a change. You suggested that you'd like to learn something defensive, and Sylvie suggested Stone Body since it seemed like such a spell would be useful for your personal protection.

Learning the incantation was a breeze, but the actual trouble came when you cast it. Though Sylvie was prudent enough to make sure that you did the first casting outside, you were not expecting such a massive increase in your weight upon activating it.

Then again, metal tends to weigh more than stone...

>[1/?]

FUCKING GOT IT
>>
So is this Rein's montage?
I feel we need some montage music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT1bp9ujQEE
>>
>>35642072

Though your maneuverability while the spell is active is cut a lot, you're practically invulnerable for the spell's duration since your entire body turns to metal. Sylvie suggested that you quickly cast it when in a pinch and then release it when the danger has passed, and that seems to be a pretty good use for the spell.

And then you found out that your added weight when Stone Body is active doesn't have any effect on Tailwind's effect... though it does increase the spell's usefulness in turning you into a living battering ram.

You were lucky that Sir Vincent happened to be around when you crashed into that wall and covered for you... Arnaud was PISSED when he saw that.

Excellent, Reinhold can now Kool-Aid Man in and out of places. Especially with Dead Line Fault, that ought to help him with dealing with any pesky walls.

And I want to see if we can get hilarious results out of making a really long sword with Fragment Blader and using Twilight's Wake on it.
>>
>>35642242

While flipping through an old spellbook, Sylvie read up on the description of the spell "Dead Line Fault" and thought that it would be a good fit for you. Though you're now able to alter the sharpness of your blade just by thinking about it, being able to turn even a glancing blow into a major cut was just too good for you to pass up.

You practiced this spell with extra enthusiasm, not even thinking about the fact that with this you'd be able to turn a minor chip in an opponent's weapon into a full swordbreakage until after you'd mastered it.

And then you remembered Volker and felt kind of depressed for the rest of the day.

Though you were definitely happy to have a decent repertoire of magic to throw around when the time comes, the fact still remained that you lacked any real longrange attack spells. After going to Sylvie with you concern, she suggested the spell "Twilight's Wake." Though somewhat similar to Arctic Blade, it has a lot more cutting power behind it, which is just what you were hoping for.

It took a few tries to get the incantation down, but after a while you were able to toss around light blade like it was nobody's business.

Having learned three useful spells in the course of a month, you opted to practice their usage instead of spreading yourself thin by forcing yourself to memorize even more.

With that said, she has been easing closer and closer to you as of late. In addition to showing up to Marianne's teatime most days and hanging all over you while talking to Marianne, she's also invited you to dinner at Sir Gregory's house multiple times over the past month.

Hoping to make up for your disappointment in not being able to see another babyfight, Luciana offered to show you her latest progress in deciphering the grimoires that you bought her. Starting with the one that was penned by the author of the same grimoire that inspired the spell that her elder brother Alberto uses on Giancarlo, Luciana asked you if you wanted to test out what she believed to be a working spell.

You did.

And it wasn't.

You spent what seemed like an eternity locked in a rigid skintight shell, unable to see or hear anything of the outside world. Though it turned out that you were only trapped in there for a few minutes, the experience was more than enough to cause you to decline Luciana's offers to show you the allegedly "safer" spells that were contained in the other books.

Hell, if it'd gone Mari route, they'd probably still just be sipping tea together.

Seriously, They have been dating just over a month. I'm a normal dude without super rape background and I don't fall in love that quickly.

The sun is shining through your window... looks like it's time to get up. After rolling over and sitting up in your bed, you turn towards the nearby wal that your sword's leaning against.

"Good morning," you say to your sword like you've come accustomed to do over the past month. While it definitely seems kind of weird to greet your sword like this, it feels even weirder NOT to for some reason.

With that little bit of introspection over with, you stumble out of bed and head to the bathroom to take a shower. Once you're all nice and clean (and shocked fully awake by the hot water,) you get dressed and attach your sword to you belt before heading out the door.

Give him some time. The only living person who he really loves is Citrine, and his relationship with Luciana is not at the same level yet. And this isn't even getting into his trauma.

He cares a lot about her, likes her company, thinks she's pretty, and more importantly trusts and respects her, but love is a pretty big word for him.

Niklaus.
We said we'd see if we can get one of them Tina bracelets for Marius to do crazy abstract art with, remember?
>>
>>35643847
I wanted Reinhold to get Karel to talk to Gregory about her secrets but it feels a bit weird following the timeskip.

Still, let's do that.

Really, I think the end goal with that impending disaster is to make sure that SOMEONE knows about it who is emotionally responsible.

Reinhold doesn't count for obvious fucking reasons.

So yes, let's try to convince her to do this

OR BETTER YET: try to convince her to talk about it with Gerhaud because he already knows.
>>
>>35643847
Check the time, review our schedule.

Assuming we don't have to get to Marianne soon let's go to the castle walls with a sketchbook and get some landscape drawing in.
>>

Let's go do out usual morning routine.
Go around talking to people until we run into Karel.

Yeah. It would be weird now.
Reinhold should at least have asked about who Adrien really is the first chance he got alone with Gregory.

No, Anon. We only bump into Karel in the hallways while on our way to see somebody else. Them's the rules.

Still think we should wait until we have more to back up the Raoul connection before making Karel's tits public knowledge.

>>35643899

I wouldn't exaclty say that.

Still, let's do >>35643876. Talk with her about her plans for the future and bring that suggestion on the table. But be diplomatic about it.
>>
>>35643847
Go outside to the training yard, get some sexy shirtless exercise done.
>>
>>35643939
It's not even about the Raoul connection, it's about the fact that someone who can influence Celestino should find out about it first before he does.

We have no idea how he's going to react, and Gregory has more than a little leverage with him. Especially Ariane who would probably pound Celestino into a pulp if he tried to make the argument that a girl can't be a proper fighter.
>>
>>35643847
Find Karel
>>
>>35643939
It's not about revealing it to everyone, just Gregory and probably Thierri.

They have some influence on Celestino, Gregory would stick with Karel because of Adrien, Thierri would stick with KArel because he'll probably think she's done nothing wrong, and if she really is the bastard of Raoul they'll have to look out for someone of the family, right?

>>35643957
Celestino would probably be madder about:
1. Someone in this service lying to him by omission,
2. Being a girl so close to his son without supervision,
3. Having used 1. to get to 2. (no matter that she couldn't have planned that, but eh).
>>
>>35643998
>Celestino would probably be madder about:

All the more reason Gregory or Ariane should find out first.
>>
>writing
>>
>>35643998
Or (if A=D) Celestino will see it as the perfect chance to tie Marconetti and Granache into an even stronger bond through a royal marrige.
>>
>>35643704

>you're not sure if you LOVE her

tick tock... those are the last moments of Reinhold's life. Better make sure they are worth it
>>
>>35643704
>While you're not sure if you LOVE her

Am I weird for seeing this as a deathflag?
>>
>>35644034
It would be a good thing for him but realistically speaking Karel has no education and is still a bastard, and Marianne is probably too dutiful to accept than anyone would take the crown but her.

>>35644041
>>35644054
He even got a sketch to show to his companions in battle before dying.

But realistically speaking arch wouldn't kill Reinhold unless we seriously fuck up during combat/piss off the wrong person. He's not that much of a dick.
>>
>>35644054
Deathbed confession is the best confession.
>>
>>35644034
This
If Karel is Granache royalty, Celestino won't give a shit about her lying about being a boy whatsoever.
Greg and Thierri might be able to influence him but proving Raoul is Adrien is a sure fire bet for Karel not getting Joan of Arc'd.
>>
>>35644078
>Implying he'd kill her.

He would fire her, but kill her? Nah.
>>
Might as well go and see what Karel's up to. She's usually up when you are, and you've gotten to become pretty close friends over the course of her time here in Granache.

Not to mention that certain... meddly parts of your mind are urging you to ask her about certain things. She always gets mad when you do, but worrying about her future is just the kind of thing that a not-brother would do, right?

>[1/?]
>>

Celestino doesn't necessarily want to unite the countries under one ruler. Just tie more bonds between them. Remember he even offered Therri Luciana for marrige?

>>
>>35644129
uh, Celestino's endgame has been quite obviously uniting the two kingdoms again. While he has no doubt it won't happen in his lifetime, his goal has very much been the reunification. He doesn't even attempt to hid it, either.

After about fifteen minutes of wandering around her usual places to no avail, you start to wonder if maybe Karel's still in her room. And so, you head on over to the wing of the castle where hers and Emilio's rooms are located...

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

"J- just a minute, I'll be right there!" Karel responds a few seconds later.
"It's me, Reinhold!" you call out just in case she thinks that it's a maid or butler.

...actually, the only people in the castle who even know that Karel's a girl are you, Niklaus and Gerhard so it stands for reason that she'd be alarmed about -anyone- knocking on her door.

"God damn it..." Karel grumbles. "Get in here already and close the door behind you."

Doing just that, you hurry inside her room, making sure that nobody's around just in case there are prying eyes around.

...and upon doing so, you end up with an eyeful of Karel in her underwear. Apparently you knocked on the door while she was in the middle of getting dressed.

"Uh..." you mumble as you avert your eyes.
"What the hell were you expecting to see, knocking on my door so early in the morning," Karel mutters under her breath.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to invade your privacy or anything..."
"Yeah right," she replies. "You do that all the time, or have you forgotten."
"Yeah, but you're getting dressed and-"
"And you clearly haven't noticed that I don't give a damn if -you- see me in my underwear, dumbass," she sighs. "I barely see you as a man as it is."

Ouch.

"So what brings you here so at the buttcrack of dawn?" Karel asks. "And it's okay to look now, I'm fully dressed now."

My modem's been cutting in and out for a week now, and it's gotten especially bad over the past few days. Think of it like trying to read while someone constantly flicks the light on and off, that's pretty much what it was like.

I called Verizon and they're sending someone over in the afternoon to upgrade my connection to something that isn't awful, but their customer service was of NO help in making my internets not shit in the meantime.
