(Last thread you bought Body-Mending Meditation for 8 XP, I'll add it later)

Together with Tia, you walk up to Tianna's docks.
The entire area is abuzz with preparations, man-at-arms carrying supplies and weapons onboard, engineers in their white cloaks mounting and servicing the few energy weapons that have been brought here on Irene's command.

Compared to the tension you were feeling just a few moments before, talking with Tia, the military preparations and the prospect of the upcoming battle are almost nothing. You briefly wonder if you should be more worried than this.

You spot, in the crowd, several tough-looking, tall individuals, men and women, dressed in leather and pelts, looking maybe a bit out of their natural element and keeping mostly to themselves. You spot Iscariah among them, and Tia, shaking the stressed, frowning, pained expression she wore up to now, cracks a smile and waves back at her.

The three captains, Alexei, Iohannes and Rubel, are out there as well, directing the work crews. You see your three ships outfitted with a prow-mounted concussive essence cannon, each a long brass tube covered in wires, circuits and gemstones, with three shorter, wing-like protusions venting from the back. There is some more work going on, the engineers installing something else on the ships' prowsides, but you can't make it out clearly.

Tia gently squeezes your arm, and you turn to her.

"I should go and get Zaan, right?" She mumbles. You can see that she's really trying to forget what just happened, and wear a smile on that.

You review the plan in your mind. You have your three ships, on top of Zaan's navy, which includes two frigates, larger than your vessels, and four sloops, smaller. Nine ships, being outfitted with Essence discharge weaponry right now, loading their crews, supplies, and some extra Black Fang muscle.

Zaan, Tia and Five Tails scout ahead. The Gloria, with Mikahil at the rudder and Amata coordinating everyone with sorcery, supports.

And this is the main strike force.

Admiral Rajan was quite terrified of the Lintha flagship, describing it as an insane, demonic monstrosity. If he's right, then this force is pretty inadequate to take it on... but then again, it's not like you have anything more to field.

And you need to get this show rolling as soon as possible.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She was in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata, an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and the Realm is probably planning to get rid of you.
But things are also looking up. You have gathered a lot of allies and friends, have a powerful Manse under construction, and are unifying Tianna in a great nation under your overwhelming charisma.
You just discovered the reason everyone seems to be so interested in Tianna: an enormous magical fortress lies buried underground, a relic of the First Age with enough firepower to destroy anything...

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

You bite your upper lip. Despite everything, you're not even too sure of what you're supposed to tell her to cheer her up. What is going on inside her right now.

"Tia." You start.

She turns to you. She looks expressionless.

"..."

Nothing. What can you say that would mean anything right now? You take a deep breath, and put a hand on her head.

You look into each other's eyes.

After a few seconds, she breaks into a light smile. A genuine one. "...What?" She asks you, a bit confused by the prolonged silence.

You stifle a giggle and keep staring into her eyes.

A few seconds later, you're both grinning like maniacs for no reason at all.

She slowly puts your arms around you and squeezes you in a light hug, as your laughter dies down.

"I'm-" She mumbles, but you put a finger on her lips.

A few more seconds later, reluctantly, you both let go of each other.

She nods, still silently, and turns around. In a flash of light, her shape bends and shifts into a large, grey vulture. With two fierce wing flaps, she goes airborne, a couple feathers fluttering through the air behind her.

There she goes. You turn to the small inn where your three officers always meet up. You're fairly sure that they're there, discussing the last tactics and ideas before the operation.

Or getting drunk.

Or both, you realize when you open the door and walk inside. The pub has been entirely co-opted as a sort of improvised command center, and Rubel, Iohannes and Alexei are there on their usual table, with a few crewmen, soldiers, barbarians and engineers all around them, with maps and instruments all over the table, pinned down by several empty or half-empty mugs.

"Oh, boss." Rubel snaps a half-assed salute at you, and the others turn at you and nod or acknowledge your presence.

You take a seat at the table.

You are handed a mug of grog while the officers at the table bring you up to speed.

"Do we have a plan?" You ask, looking at the maps and charts filled with arrows and lines and notes.

"Barely." Rubel admits. "We don't really know the enemy formation or the strong and weak points of the enemy flagship. From what Rajan told us, it's barely a ship in the loosest sense of the word anyway."

You scratch your head. You'll admit that they're right, it's pretty hard to make a sensible plan. "What do you have here?" You ask, pointing at the charts and papers.

"The general idea is that the flagship is alive, right? I mean, it's a demon. Boarding it sounds like a bad idea." Alexei notes.

For mortals, at least. You think, without saying it out loud.

"The general idea is easy." Rubel continues. "If there are other ships, normal ships, escorting the flagship, we focus our artillery on them and clear the sea first. We don't move to board them unless we have a good chance. If we surprise the flagship without an escort, we line up and shoot away."

"What about me?" You ask. The very question sounds pretty silly.

It IS silly. The three pirates look at each other, confused. They clearly have no idea themselves. How do you even handle Exalted in a naval battle?

Rajan's voice rises from behind the pub's counter, quickly followed by himself with a full bottle of rum in hand: "What about you indeed." He replies.

"Oh, there you are."

He drops the bottle on the table and sits down next to you.

"So, you really think we can take out the ship-"

"The Murdering Heart."

"Sorry?"

"The name of the Lintha Flagship"

Reassuring.

"Anyway, no. Not just with artillery." He replies, uncorking the bottle.

"So what?" You ask back.

"There's me, Irene, Samiel, Valeriana and Zareen." He mumbles. "Plus, you, Mikahil and Amata on the Gloria. Let's assume we manage to hit the Murdering Heart all together. All ten ships."

"That's the plan." You nod.

"What then?" he asks you.

You narrow your eyes. You get the feeling that he already has a plan, but wants to hear yours.

Preferably I'd like to blast it from afar until it dies, but I assume since it's a demon we need to do a special thing to properly get rid of it, was it summoned with a spell or something, could we kill the caster and get rid of it like that?

Keep it simple I guess. Exalts try to board and scuttle The Murdering Heart while the other ships provide supporting fire.
>>
Rolled 7 (1d10)

>>35684240
I doubt we will be able to just laser it to death, that sounds too easy, we'll probably end up having to board it, from there we can try to kill it from the inside, stab it's heart directly, actually i think Rajan has mentioned it having three hearts or something like that

By the way did Rajan pick up any Jade, I assume he can use the spear Deled had
>>
Rolled 1 (1d10)

>>35684240

I wonder if Rajan is going to be the drunk who is going to tell every one is going to die

Nah, he probably has more sense then that.

Anyway. The Murdering heart has the advantage of choosing the battleground. We need to take that advantage away.

We need to use the Gloria to lure the Murdering heart. Perhaps disguise it as a merchant vessel, who will try to run away at "normal" speed when the Murdering heart is spotted. Then when the artillery ships are in range we use our lunars to pin the ship in place so we can unleash a barrage.

Well, I was about to say that the next part is boarding the ship, but since this ship is alive. It could simply submerge parts of it underwater until everyone on it dies.

Oh yea, we also need to jump on board and kill anyone that looks "sorcery" enough. We need to keep jumping around the ship and never get bogged down

Rolled 5 (1d10)

>>35684371

When I meant boarding I did mean the mortal followers.

There are probably thousands of Lintha pirates on the ship and we are not strong enough to take on entire armies... yet.

Perhaps there is a way for a small team to kill the thing by doing something to its internals.

There is always cutting the head off.

But yea, perhaps it's best to tell our pirates to hang back incase any escorts show up and only board when told otherwise.

"...I don't think we can take it out with artillery. Despite Alexei's justified doubts, I suspect that we'll need to board it to take it out for good. Storm it good and proper." You mumble. "Just us Exalted. Keep the crews in reserve, or in defense in case we get boarded ourselves."

"Not a bad plan." He admits. "We keep them uncommitted and keep our tactics flexible. We don't know enough about the Murdering Heart's capabilities to plan in detail."

Alexei scratches his head. "Are we supposed to shoot at the Murdering Heart while you are on board?"

"Preferably not." You smile awkwardly. "Like Rubel said, focus on the escorts, or soften up the Murdering before you board it. What do we have?"

"Each of our three ships has one class-4 Concussive Essence Cannon, prow-mounted. Self-recharging, about three shots a minute. And a turreted Lightning Ballista amidship, each with five shots."

"That's not much." You reply.

"That's what we have." Rajan notes. "Irene is finishing the last checks. As for the other ships, my two frigates have four class-5 Concussive Cannons each, in broadsides of two. The four sloops have a smaller class-3 Concussive Cannon, turreted."

"The Gloria?"

"Two Ballistas, turreted."

You think about it. You really are not sure how much firepower that is, but you'll have to deal with that...

"I think that we'll be lucky if we manage to get one ship within boarding range. The Lunars can help a bit by carrying us while flying, but they can carry a few people, not an entire boarding force." You reason.

"Let's use the Bloodshark as a flagship." Rubel offers. "It's slightly faster than the other ships, except for the sloops, but they're too small."

Iohannes exchanges glances with Rajan and they both nod. "It's balanced. Good idea. I'll get everyone on board. The other ships will focus on cutting a path for the Bloodshark and the Gloria once the fight starts. Sounds good?"

"To victory." You cheer as the mugs clash noisily together. "And to the Lintha."

You don't have to fill in: the officers and crews burst out laughing and jeering at the mention of the name of everyone's most hated assholes of the seas.

You head to the Bloodshark with Rubel and Rajaan and part of the crew, half-drunk and singing.

Well, morale is high. Let's hope it stays that way.

On board, in the next few minutes, arrive Iscariah with a cadre of chosen warriors (seeing a barbarian in power armor is so weird), then Samiel and Irene in full battle regalia, including their new weapons, accompanied by Valeriana. Irene is carrying a large shoulder-mounted gun on top of those.

"...And then I tried fitting it with a Silversheen gem to stabilize the tail end of the flux."

"Wow. Did it work?"

"No way! It resonated the wrong way, burned out half the circuit, and spiked the motal channeler."

"No way. Did it blow up?"

"Punched a hole in the roof as big as my head!" They both start laughing. "Mom was so mad at me."

Samiel looks at you with imploring eyes. He says nothing.

You stifle a giggle. "We're waiting for Zareen."

"No need to." The dancer/assassin's voice answers back from the docks. You see her outfitted in her new armor and weaponry as well, and carrying a large sack over her shoulder. She tosses it onboard, and quickly follows it with an agile leap. "I'm here."

"I guess we can set sail." Rajan seems somewhat worried. You know that face. It's the face of someone wondering if he forgot something, if he's missing anything. It's the face of someone about to leave on a trip with no real guarantee of returning from it.

It's the face of someone about to face a nightmare, his own inner demons.

You feel a lot more relaxed than him. Almost anxious. Your plans are about to come together. A new city. A new chance. A new life.

Plus, punching demons sounds fun.

We may be smart in leaving one or two exalted back so that the Lintha do not make a gambit of counterboarding our ships to strand us in the middle of the ocean if we sink their ship.

I mean they are demons around who would be ok with loosing all Lintha if they can fuck up the emerging naval power of Tianna.

Also, considering that Exaltedfag said that Tianna is rather strong on the ground i would like to see that reflected. We should have a a overabundance of fighters per ship ready to fuck shit up too - the only reason they be not boarding is because the ship might sink with them on board if it is alive and can close up its access ways to take us down with it.

"Let's go." You order, leaping down the ship and back on the docks. "Best of luck, everyone. See you on the battlefield."

They all cheer back at you as you leave, run across the docks, and leap on the Gloria just as it is about to set sail.

"Is everything ready?" Asks Amata, standing on the many-sailed vessel's prow.

"As ready as we'll ever be." You reply, flexing your hands and fingers, staring at your new weapons. "Now all that's left is to fight the battle. That will answer all our questions."

"Alright." Mikahil is at the back, holding the ship's wheel. You have to admit, he looks confident. He looks utterly at home here.

In a few minutes, the Gloria is freed from the moorings and picking up speed towards the open seas. The wind is stiff and favorable, and feels like a pleasant breeze on your skin and in your hair.

In the meanwhile, you have explained the specifics of the strike fleet to Amata and Mikahil. The slower ships are lagging far behind you.

That's fine, you're meant to scout ahead anyway.

"I probably won't be able to take part in the fight, Maka." Amata warns you. "I'll have to use a lot of Essence to coordinate everyone with sorcery. I'd just get in the way."

"I see." You nod. "You don't have to prove anything, Amata. I know you'll do your best. And frankly, proper coordination will be more useful than anything else. Especially done by you." You smile. You're sure she'll manage to surprise you somehow.

"I'll prepare my stuff in a room. It's... probably not the best idea to do sorcery on the deck of a ship, especially not if a fight could start at any time. If I lost my concentration, weird stuff could happen." She says, leaving the deck (not after a kiss) and heading down.

we're gonna have time to rest and recover to max before the battle begins. We're only just about to cast off so we can assume there's some time before we hear from Amata that they've located the flagship.
>>
>>35685165
Then why didn't we use MRP just for the extra successes?
>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

>>35685152
Nope. Basically every spirit has charms that make them broadly aware of the entire area in which they have influence - even the eyes of their priests, not just their lands and temples.

Now, the Storm Mothers might not decide to fuck with us today. But we're Social 4, which means we're superhumanly, impossibly beautiful, and we'd be gambling on them not getting their hate on for that. And if they do decide to fuck with us, we don't have spirit-touching or spirit-killing charms to deal with that fact.

So, basically, we should stay below decks. If we don't have red hair, we're basically painting a target on the ship for the Storm Mothers to come smite.

You're left alone with Mikahil on deck. You decide to leave him to his job, without distracting him.

Amidst all the calls and yells and orders and screams of the rest of the crew handling the ship, the noise of the wave, and the whistle of the wind, he stays utterly silent, eyes focused ahead. A pale golden glow radiates from him, and seems to meld and vanish with the wooden planks beneath his feet.

You get the feeling that the Gloria is just picking up more and more speed. Is the wing really that strong, or is it just Mikahil's charms?

Looking at him, you're pretty sure it's the latter.

After a couple minutes, you see his face turn into a frown.

"Something is weird." He mumbles, almost silently, but somehow, despite the noise, you maanage to hear him.

You come closer and whisper back. Maybe he doesn't want to worry the crew. "What's wrong?"

"A small boat is moving parallel to us."

You look around, confused.

"You'd have to be in the crow's nest to see it." He explains.

"Why can you see it, then?" You ask back at him. "Charms?"

He nods. "I can see what the ship sees."

That sounded weird, and he seems to realize that.

"...In any case, what about it? Is it Lintha?"

"Doesn't seem so. Too small. It's barely a fishing boat."

"What's the problem then?"

"It's keeping up with us. We're sailing at twenty-seven knots."

You sigh. What now?

You pat on Mika's back to signal him to wait for a second, and leap up to the Crow's nest, almost giving a heart attack to the poor lookout there.

"WHA- Oh gods- it's you. Erm, apologies, Exalted One..."

"Don't get formal on me, come on." You scan the horizon. "Got a spyglass?"

He fumbles for it, hanging from his neck on a leather string. You point north. "Can you see it?"

"...A single sailed, single masted boat." He mumbles, clearly amazed.

"Mikahil spotted it." You concede, allowing yourself some modesty as you take the spyglass from his hands.

It's a small sailing boat, as described. It's single, triangular sail, immaculate white, is filled with wind, and the white trail blazing behind the small vessel is a tell-tale sign of its amazing speed.

You can't see clearly enough to tell who's riding on it, but...

"Crew?" You ask, handing the spyglass back.

"For that? One to three."

"Weapons?" Probably a stupid question.

He shakes his head. yep, a stupid question.

"Alright. Thank you. Keep an eye on that, but without neglecting the rest of the horizon. We're looking for the big bastard, remember."

"Aye."

You leap down from the crow's nest, landing gracefully next to Mikahil.

"Intercept it." You tell him.

"We'll waste time." He mumbles in response, but turns the wheel nonetheless.

"I know." You concede. "But I'll feel a lot safer."

A minute after turning in that direction, the lookout informs you. "It's turning onto us!"

"They know we've noticed them. No sense hiding anymore." You reason.

"This means they don't fear us." Adds Mikahil. "Or they'd run. If they can be as fast as us, they can just turn away and keep distance, or try and lose us."

"So, not Lintha."

"Probably not."

It's not long before you can see the ship better. It's something like a small fishing boat, but with improved rigging and sails, turning into a fast messenger boat.

"Hey, you!" You call out to the figure wrapped in the thick cloak. "Come onboard!"

A rope ladder is tossed overboard and the mysterious individual climbs it and leaps on the Gloria.

He feels somewhat masculine, with bits of long grey hair peeking out of the hood, and is either quite well-built and bulky, or wearing armor, but not both. You don't see any obvious weapons, but he could be hiding anything under that cloak. You can't even see the face clearly, as it's covered by a wooden tribal mask, something very Archipelago.

"Did you get lost?" You ask, half joke, half provocation.

"No, not at all." The voice is hard to pin. It sounds fairly masculine, but not absolutely so. Besides the mask muffles it a bit. "I wanted to meet the famous Maka. I was heading for Tianna, but..."

"But you met me at sea... and started following me? And why the mask?"

"I wanted to meet you, but I did not want you to meet me."

That statement confuses you for a few seconds, but after that you think you understand what he means. Not WHY, though.

"...Why?" You just ask.

"We could be allies, you and I. But first I wanted to know who you really are. I didn't plan on being found so easily..." He honestly admits.

"You wanted to spy on me?" You smile.

"Yes." The individual calmly admits. "I wanted to know if you're some kind of enlightened ruler or a debauched demon. There are several different stories going 'round about you, and I wasn't sure what to believe."

"...That's a lot of honesty for someone going around with a mask. Can I have a name, at least?"

He thinks about it for a second. "Bob. Bob of Wavecrest."

"You just made that up."

"Yes."

"See..." You scratch your head, trying to find the best words. "We're kind of heading out to kick some Lintha right now."

"I like that." The mask replies.

Meanwhile the men on deck, who had been focusing on the mysterious individual up to then, begin to relax.

"Can you fight?"

"Kind of. You want my help?"

"You said you wanted to ally with me." A strange feeling is beginning to crawl into your head. Why does this person not want to show his face? Do you know him? You try and focus. He feels familiar? Or is it just because you're TRYING to detect anything you can recognize in him.

Or maybe he's not hiding his face just from you? Is he wanted? Or just hideously scarred? Maybe not even human?

"You don't trust me." He says, bluntly.

"Well, no. How can I trust you? I have no idea who you are! You probably know more about me than I do about you."

He nods thoughtfully. "That is true. But how do I know that you're really you? Anathemas are possessed by demons and turned inside out. How do I know you're not just a monster wearing a skin?"

That's a fairly good point, but Mikahil lifts his eyes from the rudder wheel and says: "His ship was coming FROM Tianna when I first saw it matching route with us."

"From Tianna? Not TO Tianna?" You turn back to him. He shrugs. "Who are you really? Take off that mask."

A long sigh. "I'd like to do that in... private."

"...Alright, follow me." You gesture to him to follow you. Mikahil eyes him suspiciously as he takes back the wheel in his hands.

Once downstairs, you lock the door behind you. "So, spill the beans."

You stare at him, dumbfounded. What the heck was that?

You remember this.

"...for the shining lights, the smiles of friends, and the dream of life without fear." You continue, almost mechanically.

Why do you know this?

You close your eyes. Come on! A vision. A nightmare. Anything! What does this mean?

The ship shakes and rocks. An impact, very close, lifts a thick, noisy spray of water, interrupting your train of thoughts.

"It IS you." The figure mumbles, rushing back upstairs. "...I hope. But I'll trust you."

You're about to scream "wait!" to him, but your moment of panic and confusion is interrupted by the Gloria turning hard to port, nearly sending you headfirst into a wall.

You rush upstairs.

Far in the distance, a small black dot floats over the horizon.

You catch a glimpse of a large black sphere darting through the sky and impacting dangerously close, lifting another huge spray of water.

"How the hell are they shooting at us from this distance?!" You scream above the chaos and the panic of the crew.

"It's the Murderous Heart." Mikahil shrugs, like that explains everything. Well, it probably does.. "You dealt with that?" He nods sideways. You follow him.

The grey-cloaked man has just jumped back onboard his small ship, which immediately unfurls its sail and picks up speed, heading straight for the Lintha ship.

Too much stuff happening at the same time!

"Amata?!" You ask him, a one-word question as you squint at the thing in the distance.

"Contacting the others. We should have replies shortly."

>Move away! Their range is insane. Let's wait for our fliers at least!
>Full speed ahead! Let's close in and bring them within range of our Lightning Ballistas!
>Keep this distance. Work on evasive maneuvers.

With only one ship going against that its insane.

And the ship would be better used to haul in more exalted than just us and the mystrey man

We should have our fliers here and the boat so we can drop of full exalted squad in.

The speedboat is great because its going to be hard to hit.

And we need the fleet to play wolfpack to pin the ship down even if they stay out of range.
>>
>>35686325
>Keep this distance. Work on evasive maneuvers.

So the plan would be keep out of range until flyers and some exalted are here plus one or two extra ships,

Then use the ships to encircle even out of range they can threaten to full speed ahead for a boarding so it will pin the ting and then fly and speedboat in as more ships come for the encirclement.

"Mika!" You scream over the chaos.

"What?!"

"Full speed ahead!"

A grin spreads on his face as his Anima blaxes to full power. "AYE!"

Immediately the Gloria gets a jolt of extra acceleration, nearly tossing you and other men overboard.

A very tired-looking, dishelved Amata pops up from underdeck, surrounded by a faint blue glow. "Are we going in?"

You nod. "Reports?"

"Five Tails is five minutes away. Zaan fifteen. Tia got in a tangle with a Lintha warship on patrol, says she'll be here right away, but didn't give me an exact time."

You roll your eyes. "The main force?"

"Half a hour behind."

You turn back to Mikahil.

"Five minutes and we're in Ballista range." He answers your implicit question. "Ten and we're in boarding range."

You glance sideways at the samm ship skipping, like a stone, from wave to wave, alongside your boat.

We have superior man/exalt/essence-power on the way. See if Maka can do anything to block those shots.

If it comes down to boarding, we can split the Exalts into tiered teams. the terrestrials focus on blinding and hobbling it. The Lunars focus on clearing the deck of opposition. Maka kick-stomps her way through the decks until she reaches the demon's heart, then rips it out and offers it to Tia and Amata as a wedding gift.

"Keep 'em busy, Mika!" You yell at the Eclipse.

"How?" he asks back.

"Improvise!"

He makes another hard turn right. "Open fire!" He orders.

The artillerists look at each other, confused. "But... we're out of range, sir..."

"Do it anyway!" He replies. "Give them something to think about."

The two magitek artillery pieces spit, with a roaring noise, thunderbolt-like lines of white-bluish light that arc through the sky and disappear on the horizon, near the large black dot.

Mikahil zigs and zags like crazy, your ship leaving a thick, convoluted white trail on the ocean behind it. The small fishing boat mirrors your every move.

Impacts dot the sea all around you. A few impacts are really close, but none hit, and after a couple minutes, they cease fire.

"Out of range for us, not accurate enough for them." Mikahil grins. "Stalemate."

Stalemate. But for how long?

Then, something startling happens, just as your mind begins to catch back up with all the things going on: A well-placed cannonball, a single aimed shot to save ammunition, hurtles towards the Gloria.

The smaller ship gets in the middle, right on the projectile's trajectory, and you see the cloaked individual slapping the cannonball aside.

Your eyes follow the now-deformed lump of bronze as it arcs lazily through the air, all its momentum lost, and falls in the ocean nearby.

"...What." Mikahil, for a moment, forgets the evasive maneuvers.

"Man, I wished I could do something better." You hear the figure say.

"Better than THAT?!" you can only reply.

"I mean, a better appearance. I wanted to spy on you a bit more, make sure that you're really who you claim to be. That I can trust you again. But I'm not cut for spy business, maybe even less so than you." The figure pulls away the cloak. "And then I'd reveal myself at the moment you need me the most and swoop in like a dashing hero."

"What in Malfeas' cursed ribcage are you even talking about?" You mutter. That way of speaking...

That piece of poetry.

"Zebia the Unforgotten." It's not from a past life or anything like that. It's a poet from... RY 500? Or so? A minor one, and basically unknown all over creation except in his homeland.

Zebia of Gem.

"You always had a hard time memorizing that one." He grins. "But after the teacher drilled it hard enough into your tough skull, you managed to learn it by heart. I thought that it was a good way to find out if it really WAS you."

You're speechless.

"Stuff happened. To both of us, it seems. But it's nice to see you again."

Your brother Karas turns around with a smile, holding his hand, clearly trying to not think how much it hurts. A sunburst castemark burns on his forehead.

"You're ALIVE?!"

He giggles. "News of my death have been greatly exaggerated."

[session end]

There is no stigma attached to that in Exalted. Remember, most dragonblood families are fairly insular and related via a complex network of arranged marriages.

>There is no stigma attached to that in Exalted.
That's a huge fucking lie. There's definitely an incest stigma. Nobility can get away with fucking cousins, just like in the real world, but sibling or parent/child incest? That's still wildly taboo in Creation, just as in the real world.

Even the Dragon-blooded don't fuck their siblings, parents, or children. They get married to distant cousins, usually from other branch-families of their House, or even other Houses entirely. That's half the reason the Houses adopt Lost Eggs (like Samiel) from the Threshold so aggressively, because they're both aware of and want to avoid incest.

So yes, there is absolutely a stigma attached to incest in Exalted.
>>
>>35687515

That's something I would very much like to know too. If I remember right, though, Maka's the middle child, with an older brother and a younger sister. We reflected on how her father/brother were probably dead, and her mother/sister - if they were as pretty as Maka - might be in a harem somewhere in Gem right now.

I forget, does Taboo Inflicting Diatribe have an opposite?
You know, hypothetically speaking.
>>
Rolled 3 (1d10)

>>35687689
No, because you can just splice in a negative. Create a taboo against disliking incest, for example. All of a sudden, people who dislike incest are treated the way the US treats racists - as embarrassing assholes to be avoided socially.
>>
>>35687689
Doesn't need one. The description, IIRC, states it can inflict *or remove* social stigmas and long cherished beliefs. And I know Lunars get social charms that are designed to modify entire tribes at once.
>>
>>35687689
This is the part where you go 'I can do X, but should I do X'

The most pressing matter is how in the world did our brother pick up either a magic boat and/or the sailing charms to rival a well travelled eclipse?
>>
Rolled 3 (1d10)

>>35687738
By having Eclipse as his secondary the way we have Dawn as our secondary? Exalted are still fucking fantastic at their secondary specialty.
>>
>>35687738
It's not too hard , I mean we're punchy despite not being a Dawn, it's just that it cost us more to go in the tree, doesn't make it impossible or even worse at using the charms

>The question is, even if he has Eclipse as his secondary, why would he take sail charms? We come from the desert.
First of all, in Exalted, deserts are crossed by sandships and thermal gliders as often as they're crossed by camels. They're called dune seas for a reason.

And second of all, he's in the middle of a fuckhuge ocean, and he's been in that ocean for AGES if he's this far out. We're talking thousands upon thousands of miles from the nearest truly major landmass. It'd be more surprising if he didn't have Sail charms, if he favors Eclipse.
>>
>>35687841
It's not like the charms are any better just because they aren't from your primary, they still work the same
>>
Rolled 2 (1d10)

>>35687857
Nope, sorry, just what I remember.
>>
>>35687893
Maybe, but Mikahil very likely has more of them, not to mention that if they're just roll boosts or additional dice like many of our charms then Mikahil should still have him outclassed in sheer numbers, not to mention having a much better boat to work with.
>>
>>35687437

>>
>>35687657
>>35687685

Does not matter any way.

I have this feeling that we treated all siblings as younger ones that need to be protected and aided.

Even if we ave notorious poor impulse control, it seems that too runs in the family and we may be one of the more restrained ones, before the Exaltation fucked it all up.
>>
Rolled 9 (1d10)

>>35687922
>but Mikahil very likely has more of them
Says who? Mikahil could have as few charms related to sailing as we do to animal husbandry. Just because Sailing is part of Eclipse doesn't mean Mikahil has to have invested any more in it than we have in Zenith's Survival.
>>
>>35688132
I am betting one simple double that the first think we do next thread is having Maka scream "ZEBIA!"

Run over to his boat and tackle hug him into the water, and not letting go, unless we realize it is dangerous for him.
>>
>>35688172
His name is Karas at least according to the filename, Zebia was from the poem
>>
>>35688171
What Attribute+Ability would you role for Animal Husbandry anyway?
Is that Craft(Genesis)?
>>
>>35688171
He's specced for spy work and maintaining contacts in an island chain. Getting around fast is a necessity.
>>
>>35688171
>Mikahil could have as few charms related to sailing as we do to animal husbandry
Well considering he's confirmed to have at least one and Sail is a pretty sizable portion of Eclipse chrams...

Frankly I think it's more likely that our brother, knowing that he had a whole lot of fucking sailing to do, decided to invest a disproportionate amount of XP into sail charms.
>>
Rolled 6 (1d10)

>>35688220
Intelligence + Survival. Managing animals is a Survival roll; I think farming might be too. Craft (Genesis) is for scientific genetic engineering, not normal animal breeding, training, and care.

>>35688222
Which means he might only have a single Gofast Sail charm, the same way we only have a single Survival charm - the one that lets us swim in volcanos and fuck on the bottom of the sea. It isn't even remotely unreasonable that a Dawn might have more Sail charms than an Eclipse, if the Eclipse is much more invested in espionage and diplomacy, while the Dawn is invested in ship-to-ship warfare.
>>
>>35688246
Maybe he just grabbed a sailing artifact or someshit?
That seems far more reasonable
>>
>>35688268
Or a hearthstone.

Or he headlocked a sea-god until it agreed to push his boat.

Dragon-blooded can be warrior badasses too; they're more powerful than the vast majority of beings in Creation, even if they aren't as powerful as Celestial exalts.
>>
>>35688457
Their primary advantages are numerical superiority and highly efficient charms. Their charms are never as powerful as Celestial charms that do the same thing, but they get 75% the effect for only 50% the cost. Or less, as there are certain rather common items designed to make their charms cheaper, something very rare amongst the celestials. Only the Sidereals have comparable efficiency.
>>
Rolled 6 (1d10)

>>35688620
...yes, and? I'm saying they're vastly more powerful than the majority of Creation, but weaker than Celestials. Comparing them to terretrial gods, mortals, god-blooded, and so forth, Dragon-blooded are still incredibly powerful. It's just easy to forget how powerful they really are when you start using Solars as a baseline.
>>
>>35687581
>There is no stigma attached to that in Exalted.
That depends massively on which culture you're from. The Dynasty's tendency toward incest is viewed as evidence of their decadent corruption by a lot of their opposition.
