I want to do a bit more of happy times while dad comes back, then as puberty hits us, dad decides its a good time to send us off to Eopolis to meet our grandpa and uncle

We have to start over, but our cousin turns out to be a pretty nice kid and we also get into several adventures with him. Plus meeting more friends, and going into some of the north's oldest dungeons

As we approach age 15, Okaba informs us remotely that he has finally managed to send long range party invitations, and thus the chat is practical over long distances. Then a little after our 15 birthday, we are talking with Mako when she finally gets kidnapped, and then of course we go to her rescue

And thats what I have in mind, in big brush strokes, for the future.

If theres anything ive learnt in 20+ years GMing its "only have broad stroke plans, the game never goes well with too much micromanagement, and noone likes railroading"

Seems like a good framework. Having a significant plot line that ties into the Lightbringer family after the dungeon but before Okaba's discover may be nice. Maybe an event that ties into the pressures that turned Grandpa Lightbringer into a hopeful hermit or someone borrowing the family's authority. The problem for me currently is trying to get the bonus xp from jobs being below class level to work out in a spreadsheet. This requires state, and spreadsheets are really bad about keeping and updating that. Note that for most purposes (getting t1 jobs to 20) that difference will be miniscule. Like 600 xp per job that goes from 1 to 20.

If you wanted rough levels without bonus xp calculated, I could probably get that to you tonight.

For XP split, I imagine eldric and lyann would both get 1/5 of that calculated xp, then the rest would get 1/10 to indicate we alternated between two groups.

~leaves 20% xp to fudge, or go to baby siblings, ect.

Get our siblings like 10 levels of each healer and wizard, and then put them back on natural jobs. The wisdom, con and int will help them in school and growing up.

No, it's more a matter of the bonus changing. Like, when you get additional class levels, the bonus changes. So you'd have to have a set of stats per-level up, a set of stats post-level up and a way to move one to the other.

Whereas without bonuses you can just calculate xp per job in each cell, get a total and then have a 'additional xp' box showing how much you can spend. At that point all you'd have to do is level up the stuff you want until that additional xp box goes negative.

Getting all the character sheets set up right now. I'll leave the automatic calculated xp stuff for the next version, as it's still pretty crude.

So for xp, I got a grand total of 1048000 xp to split among the party from your earlier post detailing gains.

That works out to 104800 for us to dump into class and 2 jobs at a time, and lyann to dump into class/job. It's 52400 for the others.

Yeah, the marginal utility of every point of Con bonus increases as you gain levels. For someone with a job spread like us, it's vastly more important than any other hp bonus. Wisdom is both magic dodge and magic armor, so it's pretty useful as well. It's also the single most available stat across all jobs, so it'll always be high.

Int and mp are actually really hard to raise. We're at more or less our soft cap for int. Strength and con are roughly the same, and easier than Int. It's one of the main reasons that physical damage focus is better than spells.

As a fun exercise I went into the sheets and added Barbarian 20, Mamluk 20, Craftsman 20, Fremen 20, Janissary 20, Thane 20 to see what the damage would be like for that permastealth backstab thing a few weeks back.

7521 damage per target per charge and you keep charging until you can't kill something. It'd be less against targets with armor, but still. That's after we level three t1 and three t2 classes to 20. If we focused on it, that probably wouldn't take very long.

Magic does about the best pure damage for a single action. Melee allows continually action.

Looks like most melee hits by us will do like ~100 base damage and we can blow spells to do up to about 500 or more in a single shot, not doing dragon force.

Class abilities can force both much higher.

Melee just is what will end up using most of the time however.

Magic is in a weird place. In simple terms, it has much higher burst than physical abilities, but with our ability to use multiple job abilities/passives at once, there are ways to pump physical damage massively, while nothing like that really exists for magic.

It's also much harder to raise Int and MP than it is to raise other stats.

One thing I would suggest is a spell trick that gives a modifier to MP like Con gives to HP. Something like
Overflowing Spirit: Gain +2 Mana for every level you have. This effect is retroactive. You can purchase this effect multiple times.

It doesn't hugely matter to us because we're casting through our sword, but for other casters in our party, it'll be a pretty big deal.

The Rune/Zodiac knights are not leader types, tho, it would make more sense to give them an attack ability.

How about:

Cast spell -> get free melee attack -> cast sell to increase its damage -> get a free melee attack -> cast spell to increase its damage -> etc until you run out of mana

Maybe just once per enemy as a free action. That way if you have, say, ambidexterity and hit two adjacent enemies (once with each arm), you can go sword -> spell -> sword on each of them.

Or spell -> sword -> spell

And why wouldnt you be able to use rune knight ability?

Anyway the idea is that the rune knight gives you explosive, possibly consecutive damage, but it depends on criticals, while zodiac gives you high damage on a regular basis.

Its just a first draft off the top of my head tho, so will probably change it a lot before i say "ok this is it" and even then will still change it if someone points some retarded mistake

oh that seems fine. Right now its 5 minutes (or 100 rounds tho since a round its meant to be 3 seconds), thats not bad.

The only reason you'd really need to stretch that time would be to carry a summon from a fight to the next, really.

But, IIRC beastmen druids get a special ability that allows them to pay again as a free action to re-summon any summon that is dying because it was destroyed or ran out of time, so messing with that is taking a big chunk out of the "special thing" beastmen have.

Btw for a while "Hardest magic known to MAN" was going to be a human-only thing, but I changed my mind in the end.

We already are.

Look at it this way, we are currently only mission one of the t1/t2 jobs that grants int - seducer. We haven't specialized in Str classes yet. And we currently still have more str than int. Once we push down the barbarian/mamluk lines we'll have twice as much str as int.

+int is going to be a sideshow for our melee damage. It'll be nice, but the zodiac knight extra cast on melee hit will mean far more, because that lets us hit someone with a weaponthane charge or thane frenzy, cast spells on every hit and those spells let us make our supersummons for free.

So for spell damage, it is base 3 damage per mp +int bonus. 3 damage per 3 mp for AOE spells.

Melee damage is weapon damage +strength bonus.

So with a 300str and 300 int.

A melee attack with a runic sword (35) damage sword does 35 +30 damage.

A spell attack for 15 base mana does 45+30 damage.

If you have monkey's grip and Ambidexterity, you roll twice with two runic great swords(70) for 70 +30 damage with each for a total of 200 damage.

However from weapon spell tricks, for increasing damage that is pretty close to max. Swipe and Windblade will allow you to hit more targes however.

If you have 1 levels of the MagicBullet spell trick, and hybrid spell trick a 30 base mana spell will do, 150 damage +60, total of 210.

Spell damage tricks scale a lot better then weapon damage tricks.

If you have 3 levels of hybrid, 3 levels of magic bullet a 15 base spell, enhanced by adding 3 more elements, costs 60 mana and does 540 + 120 damage, for 660 damage.

If you for example also get 2 levels of cascade and 2 levels of chain, your super bullet for 60 mana will hit 3 targets, 3 times, doing 1980 damage.

If eldric pushes his elemental enough to take all those, using the stats in the spreadsheet, he could throw out a 100 mana spell that would do :

100 mana, x9 (900 base damage), + 4 x int(50) for 1100 damage a shot. If he then has 3 targets to bounce, it would 3300 damage to 3 targets.

Magic has the best damage scaling compared to melee.

As an addendum to that however is that rage techniques allow you an amazing amount of melee attacks. A Weaponthane, barbarian, thane can continually rip massive chunks of melee attacks.

Sure, a weaponthane with 6 rage abilities, (barb. thane, weaponthane) can do 6 melee attacks in a single charge, if they are holding 2 runic greataxes for example and have 400 strength, they can 220 damage each basic attack,(1320) and then charge the next target, up to 6 times a fight.

They can do even more if they add shifter and predator to there class history I think they then have 15 rage abilities and can get 15 melee attacks on a free charge and can do it 15 times a combat. They would likely have ~500 strength in that build. 3600 damage on a charge, if they never miss. More if they have maul active of course.

Weaponthanes are very good vs magic and against mooks, byt a large enough enemy is not gonna be impressed by it charging it and then doing 3 basic attacks

Lets assume this repeats itself for 3-4 times before you roll really shitty

Lord looks to be one just to open for the actives. Seize the day is just amazing. Can someone have both Aura of command(lord) and greater aura of command(marshal) active or are they either or abilities?

Paladin has 2 winning abilities, condem a pure taunt and divine mettle something to massive reduce incoming damage.

Justicar the passives just allowed you to stack cha bonus to armor.

Marshal's passive allows your aura's to affect whole battle fields.

Duelist is kinda weird in that it neither has magic or Chivalry, but the pre-req classes do.

In general the actives for Chivalry classes are nice for a group, but the passives are kinda meh.

Doom Curses is what I mean. The poof timer is not an effect, it is just a notification. Besides a corpse is no longer an ally.

Looking back, the Justicar adding to armor is nice. If you push your armor total to over ~100 or so, you will largely mitigate all but the mightiest of strikes. Heavy armor, +200 con is like 80 armor provided. If you add more due to high con it can really get massive.

I guess that is one of the strengths of magic, it is easier to boost spell damage past most expected SR.

To damage some really tough monsters you will need to use all sorts of songs and buffs to add to each melee strike.

Say, a target has armor 60 and your shotgun shoots 10 projectiles, each of which does 3+30 (implying 300 dex) damage.

All the projectiles would do 33 damage vs armor 60 and get nullified, while it would be awesome against low armor targets

But since con gives you a bonus to armor, that really just means low level targets. and who really cares about soft targets that would die just fine to a single arrow or swordstrike, anyway?

If you made an assault rifle, it would still have to fit in the poor/good/fine/runic/legendary categories and do damage accordingly, so theres really not much point other than, carrying bullets its probably more comfortable than carrying arrows, up to a point, since theres item boxes anyway

well, I'm still not sure what the final interpretation is on Orcs, but the orcs I know are good at raiding, but not so good at leading armies. Small "tribal" parties work for them, but they can't unite as a whole race.

Maybe for racial, every race has a +1 to 2 specific stats when they level there class level? So humans might be wisdom and charisma, ect.

Beastmen might be con/dex
orc con/str
elf apperance/dex
dwarf : wisdom/con

Would give some bonus's, but not too much, since class levels for most will top out at 30-70.

Mix it up by making some specific race only classes like the totemist/shifter.
