LAST TIME ON CODE GEASS QUEST: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/35629302/

Thread times and updates posted here: https://twitter.com/Crosswire

A.T.B 2017, 27th of September
Area 11(Former Nation of Japan), 6:00 AM
The Remains of Mt. Odake Base

You’d say your name is Xinlu Kuu, but that would be a lie. The blood on your hands makes it clear who you are.

Sleep was difficult to find last night. Between guarding Delson, patrolling the perimeter of the forest for fear of a rebel counter attack, and digging corpses out of the rubble, your nerves were all but shot when reinforcements arrived and you finally got the chance to sleep.

However when your head touched the pillow, not even your exhaustion and the warm feeling of satisfaction you got from killing those rebels could lull you to sleep. The information you had practically cut out of Delson danced around in your mind, making you wonder, making you worry, and making you thirsty for the water known as truth. Even as you pressed your eyes shut and tried to let the darkness of the barely intact barracks engulf you, your mind burned the midnight oil.

“Who or what is Pluton? How can you ‘enhance’ someone to make them more loyal? Were the Red Barons I killed just the hesitant ones? Am I not a good a fighter as I thought I was? Was that boy in the tiger stripped suit really working for Zero? I thought all the Japanese were fighting under his name..."

Your thoughts spun and ground together in your mind until the early morning hours when the frantic motions of contemplation caused you to unknowingly drift into a brief, dreamless sleep. It was only 5 hours of sleep, but you managed to pull yourself out of bed for breakfast.

>(1/3)
>>
>>35751375
Breakfast was had in the barracks as the Cafeteria and Kitchen were destroyed in the attack, making today the first time you'd had Britannian military rations. The taste is alright, filling but ultimately artificial compared to a regular meal. Your mind doesn't linger too much on the taste of the food because you realize that before even the rank of Private, before having a simple military ration, you've already killed almost a dozen people.

It was all in self defense of course, the Red Barons were intent on slaughtering innocent recruits and the filthy Eleven Rebels intended to raze the base to the ground. If you hadn't fought then you and many others would be food for the worms. Still, you can't help but wonder if this is some kind of sign of how things are going to go. Is this just a taste of the blood you're going to spill on your quest?

>Strength. Truth. Revenge.

You tell yourself that it doesn't matter, that if these are the kinds of people you'll have to kill to get what you want then you might be doing the world a favor. Before your thoughts can grow anymore unpleasant you look up and found you've been approached by a superior!

Jumping to your feet, you and the others snap a salute that is slowly returned but the Lieutenant in front of you.

"Are you Trainee Xinlu Kuu?" The soldier asks.

"Yes I am." You somewhat groggily reply.

"Major Waldeburg wishes to speak with you."

You follow the lieutenant outside and across the base to where the G1 Mobile Command center sits. The short walk reminds you just how hard the base was hit during the attack. The command center was turned into a burning crater, the higher ranking officers killed, the hangers was barely left standing with all the gunfire and rocket hits it took, and the brig was essentially demolished in the attack.

Thankfully the barracks, armory, infirmary, and communication center survived, allowing the wounded to be treated and reinforcements to be called. Though it could have been worse that's not much considering just how much was destroyed. From the looks of things you think the base might be abandoned opposed to rebuilt.

After climbing aboard the mobile fort, you’re taken to a tiny, rather cramped room with a desk in it that someone had the insanity to decide to call a ‘office’. In the already cramped room you find Rick Astley, Scott Washington, and Bill Steiner waiting in front of Major Waldeberg.

“Ah, there you are. I looked over your report and informed my superiors you were the one who lead the charge to ensure Drill Sergeant Delson was apprehended during his escape attempt during the rebel assault on this base. Normally trainees entering into combat would be seen as an overstepping of bounds, but considering the situation I’ve been authorized to register all of you as ready for active duty and promote you to Private First Class.”

“But sir, we’re not finished with your training yet…” Scott brings up in an uncertain tone.

“True, but you only had two weeks of training left and all of that was Knightmare handling and the like. It’s obvious from the fact you survived and succeeded in combat against the rebels that any more basic training would be a waste. Besides we need all the manpower we can field.” The major smiles and looks to you, as if waiting to see how you’ll respond...

"Thank you very much sir!" You say with a proud smile, happily accepting your new rank stripes as the others take their own. Private First Class isn't a particularly big step up from private, but it usually takes a couple months of service to get to the rank. The fact you got it from your efforts makes you curious on how fast you could climb up the military ladder if you keep impressing the right people.

Rick, Bill, and Rick all see pretty satisfied with the situation and apply their new rank insignia to their uniforms.

"I'm glad to see such fine and promising troops have come out of that simulation fiasco. With Delson in our custody we'll be able to get to the bottom of what happened. In the mean time we won't need you for any more questioning, but you may be called into court to testify at a later date." The Major shifts some papers and you can't help but grimace at that thought. Appearing in a court case would give you a lot of attention, attention you'd rather not have under this name.

Before you can think too hard on what you could do to get out of it, the major speaks again.

"Since you're all now official members of our proud military and officially in active service, you'll be expected to preform to the best of your abilities and obey all the laws and formalities that your station demands of you. As such you're going to be assigned to guard the transports that are going to be leaving this base and heading down the mountain with the dead and injured. I'd assign my own men to the task, but I've been ordered to start an immediate search for the rebel base on this mountain. The carriers won't be leaving for another 6 hours, so you can rest up and prepare yourself for your first official mission. I'll brief you before you leave. Dismissed"

You're tempted to ask if you could join the mission to hunt down the rebels, but you realize that low ranked soldiers don't have the luxury of choosing their own assignments. Besides, you've been in two life or death battles in the course of two days, you could use a little bit of a break.

After leaving through the cramped halls of the G-1 base you step outside with everyone else, you step off to the side and take a deep breath of fresh air, noting how bad it smelled inside the mobile base.

“Excuse me.”

You turn and find yourself approached by two men in bright orange military uniforms.

“We’re with the Advanced Special Envoy Engineering Corp sent to retrieve the remains of the advanced Knightmare that was disabled here. You’re trainee Xinlu Kuu, the one who fought the machine, right?”

“I’m Private First Class now, but yes I’m Kuu.”

“Excellent.” The man claps his slender, but calloused hands together and smiles eagerly. “We were hoping you could answer some questions about your battle with the machine. The recorder from your Glasgow provided a lot of information, but pilot feedback is always helpful in our line of work.”

“The machine is fairly intact, save for the damage to the legs, shoulder, and the cockpit. We couldn't identify the body from what was left, all we could figure out was that he was relatively young. If you could tell us how the battle went and how well the pilot fought, we might have an easier time figuring some things out."

The two engineers wait eagerly for your response as you mull over how you want to answer their questions...

>Exaggerate. Try to play up the pilot as some ace you managed to overcome and slay with ease.

>Honest. He was pretty threatening, but it was more his frame then his skill. From how quick he was to go straight to self-destructing after you disarmed him he was probably a rookie.

>Downplay. You got lucky, he probably would have killed you if you hadn't gotten his sword

You decide to be honest with them and tell the battle as unbiased as you can. The fight against the tiger striped machine was difficult and a slip up probably would have gotten you killed, but whoever was piloting it was probably as green as you were. He went straight to self destructing without even trying to get his blade back.

"Interesting. So your opponent didn't so much have the advantage in skill as he did a superior machine." The first man says, tapping his chin.

"Yet you managed to win in the inferior machine, that's an impressive fear, beating a 7th generation in a 4th. We could use a pilot like you in the Special Corp." The second one says, shutting off the tablet he used to take down your answers and slipping it into his bag.

"So you guys just came for the machine, right? Does that mean I can keep the sword?" You can't hold back your smile and hidden hopefulness at getting to keep the rather cool sword and the two engineers can't help but chuckle.

"Sorry to disappoint you but we'll be taking the blade of analysis as well. We haven't recovered any of these blades yet and it would be a huge loss to have it damaged to destroyed in the field before we can get a look at it. Still, there's a chance you might get to use it again." The first engineer explains.

Doing your best to hide your disappointment, you bid the engineers goodbye and contemplate what benefits the Special Corp might give you before deciding on what to do next.

You think about talking with the others, but then you start to think about them. When you get down to it you don't know them all that well. Talking with them revealed that Scott's family apparently owns a brewery, Rick joined the army so he could save up and pursue a music career, and that list Delson had mentioned Bill as being someone's bastard child.

You fish out the pair of shades Rick gave you as thanks for saving his life and frown.

Scott, Rick, and Bill are only one step away from being strangers, yet they didn't turn their back on you or question you, even when you were on the verge of disemboweling a man just for your own satisfaction. Sure they had just as much reason to hate Delson as you did but they placed a surprising amount of their trust in you.

"Maybe it's for the best if I don't get too close to them." You think, slipping on the sunglasses as you enter the barracks. "It's not like we're in the same unit or anything, once we're at the settlement we'll probably get split up anyway. Besides, they don't deserve to get dragged into what I'm planning..."

Flopping down on your bed you get ready to go to sleep...

>>35753468
No. Keeping a diary and writing down all the important information she knows could ultimately get her into some serious trouble if anyone discovered and read it. However you could have her start keeping one from now on if you wish, though there are some rather heavy risks involved.

Nothing fancy, but slipping in small personal details will help.

Shirley's not particularly well versed in that kind of thing. Even if she looked up how to do it, losing her memory would lessen the chance she'd even realize he diary was written in a cipher to begin with.

Lying down on your bed you find yourself unable to sleep. At first you don't know why, but it's not hard to recognize the fear inside you. The fear of closing your eyes, falling asleep, and waking up with no memory of anything. Dr. Pailsen has a recover of your life and information about you for when he does check ups to ensure your memory isn't deteriorating, but that only covers so much.

Getting out of bed you go over to your duffle bag and begin rooting around inside of it. You didn't bring any personal belongings, only things you thought you absolutely needed or thought you would need. The unmarked cellphone you used to take your calls, your medication, a change of civilian clothes, and a few books. One of the books is blank, an empty diary of sorts.

You thought against keeping a diary for fear of being found out, but it was a letter your wrote that allowed you to realize just who was responsible for everything that happened to you. If you write it as Kuu and not as Shirley, it'll allow you to catch up should you forget anything without any fear of it being used to point out who you are.

Fishing out a pen, you write a quick entry for the last three days. You're too tired to write anything fancy, but from now on you'll take some kind out of the day to ensure the entries are detailed and ripe with things you'll need to remember should your medication stop working.

Sliding the newly born diary into your uniform, you collapse back down onto the bed and finally get some sleep.

The five hours of sleep you get seem brief to you, but they're enough to ensure you won't have any trouble staying awake or fighting. However you had a rather unpleasant dream that while you can't remember makes you wonder the intelligence of Rick pursuing a music career. After having a brief bit of launch you report to briefing room aboard the G-1 Base, where you find Bill, Scott, and Rick sitting with four other low ranking soldiers. You decide to sit in the back of the room and avoid them.

"Is that everyone? Good. I'll keep this briefing short and simple." Major Waldeberg stands up in front of everyone as a small projector displays a map of the mountain behind him.

"Me and my battalion have been tasked with finding and eliminating the rebel base believed to be located on this mountain. However actively searching for the rebels would require leaving this base and I don't have enough men to search and defend this base at the same time. Due to the damage and casualties taken here, Princess Cornelia has ordered this base abandoned, with all living, dead, and wounded personal being shipped back to the Tokyo Settlement to receive medical treatment, burial, and reassignment." The room is quiet outside of the major's talking, a few coughs and some people fidgeting in their small chairs adds only a slight layer of background noise to things.

"However there is a chance that the transports coming down from the mountain could be attacked on the trip down. To ensure that doesn't happen and that me and my men can continue our mission unhindered, all of you will be assigned to defend this small convoy as it goes down the mountain. We have Sutherlands for you all, but I can only spare a single Knightmare trailer. So you'll have to remain on active guard in shifts of four, with four recharging in the trailer once their power runs low and four outside."

"Any questions?"

>Well Shirley?
>>
>>35754348
any places on the route where they might attack like a cliff or ruins?
>>
>>35754348

>>
>>35754348
>"Were their any reports of rebel activity in the are before the assault on the base?"
>>
>>35754478
>>35754691

You raise your hand with some questions in mind.

“Excuse me sir, but how long will this trip be if no attacks occur? And are there any notable places that we’ll pass that might be potential ambush points?”

“The trip should take about 6 hours. Normally it only takes four, but the convoy will be taking a longer, less direct route down from the mountain. Instead of passing through the small village of Hinohara and down into Hinode, you’ll be traveling down small mountain roads and into Otsuki. This should allow you to circle around or outright avoid any potential ambush points, but please note that when you leave Otsuki is where the ruins of the Special Administration Zone are.” The Major frowns and shakes his head, looking unpleased just having to mention the place.

“We haven’t noted any rebel activity there, but it’s possible there could be squatters and disgruntled civilians living in some of the destroyed buildings. Still, you should remain alert as you pass through there."

"Were there rebels active in this area before the attack on this base?" You ask.

The major shakes his head. "We had a few guerrillas and some reports of hidden supply depots up in the more remote areas of the mountains, but never anything of this scale before. It's possible the rebels are operating off a hidden base somewhere high up in the mountains."

>>35754684
"Will we have access to any air reconnaissance on the way?" You ask.

The major shakes his head again. "Most of our air craft are situated around the settlement area and due to the threat of Zero's return the Princess Cornelia has ordered that most of the VTOL Gunships available stick to patrolling the ghettos. We do have a few craft patrolling the harder to reach areas of the mountains, should they see anything they'll inform the convoy and let you know of any threats near you. Once you get down from the mountain chance of outright rebel attack will be very low."

You remain quiet and the Major nods his head. “Excellent. Please go to the hanger to select the loadouts you’ll be bringing on this mission. Hopefully you won’t have to enter combat, but select what you’re comfortable with and prepare for the worst. I wish the best to all of you. Dismissed!”

Leaving the briefing room you head to the G-1’s hanger where Sutherlands and a myriad of equipment await you. You’re not as familiar with the Sutherland as you are with the Glasgow, as you received most of your training on one. However they’re not too different from one another.

The Sutherland is a bit tougher, has some slightly better placed armor, and has the advantage of not being made 7 years ago. It’s recent and widely used. However from what you’ve heard is that the Glasgow’s actually a bit faster than the Sutherland, though mostly because of the difference in armor and frame weight.

You could always request to use a Glasgow if you wanted, it’s not like it’d be asking for a Gloucester or anything.

Before you select your loadout, you’ll need to pick your frame.
Which do you want?”

You decide to go with the Sutherland. It's not as fast as the Glasgow, but you need to get used to the Knightmare eventually, after all it's the main Frame of the Britannian military.

After picking one of the Sutherlands out of the identical lineup, you look at the weapons at are available. It's mostly the same stuff you had to choose from when you went out in the Glasgow against the rebels, but you also notice that they have lances and some swords on hand as well as some optional equipment.

RANGED WEAPONS:

>RA-57K-7 57mm Coilgun with 80mm overslung Grenade Launcher: Lightweight and reliable. 300 Rounds per magazine in the machinegun and 6 for the grenade magazine. Can be easily stored on rear hardpoint.

>RA-100K-7 100mm Cannon: 25 Rounds a Clip, powerful but reduces mobility when equipped.

MELEE WEAPONS:

>Pickhammer: A light weight hammer weapon with a razor sharp stake opposed to a blunt head. It's an effective melee weapon and isn't effected much by armor. Using it only raises energy consumption to Medium, but can deal more damage if more energy is expended.

>Sword: A heavy metal sword without any system to enhance it's cutting power. This weapon can deal more damage then the hammer and can be wielded in one hand, but it's more easily blocked and spotted by armor. Raises energy consumption to High when in use.

>Lance: A heavy melee weapon that requires two hands to use. It can do some serious damage to a Knightmare you manage to hit it with and ignores all but the heaviest of armors. It raises Energy Consumption to Very High when used in melee.

>(1/2)
>>
>>35755858
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT

>Tonfas/Stunguns: Your Glasgow had Tonfas equipped to it before, but you never used them. They're simple bludgeoning weapons that fold out from the elbows and are useful when fighting defensively. These Tonfas have 'stunguns' built into them, effectively taser like shock units used to damage or disrupt a Knightmares internal systems or outright kill the pilot. The Tonfas by themselves raise Energy Consumption to Medium when in use, but using the Stunguns uses up a lot of power.

>Chest Mounted 15mm Anti-Personal Machinegun: A small, rapid fire machinegun mounted that can be mounted underneath the chest of the Sutherland. It's useless against Knightmares but is very effective against unarmored targets and foot soldiers. Has 500 rounds and cannot be reloaded.

You can only choose to carry two weapons and two reloads, but you can equip both pieces of Optional Equipment if you wish, though you will be a little heavier because of it.

Armament wise you decide to select the reliable old RA-57, one of the heavy lances you've been wanting to try out, and ask one of the nearby engineers to install a pair of Tonfas/Stunguns on your Sutherland. The process only takes about twenty minutes and soon you're able to board your Knightmare, pick up your weapons, attach the reloads for your Coilgun to the side hardpoints of your Knightmare, and roll out of the G-1 base to form up with the others.

There are a total of 8 Sutherlands escorting the convoy. Three of the pilots you know (Rick, Scott, and Bill) but the other four you're not familiar with, though you know there's a Lieutenant amongst the four who will be commanding all of you. The Convoy itself is made up of three buses, a medical transport car carrying the wounded and dead, A trailer able to hold and recharge four Knightmares at a time, and a single banged up APC with a small caliber autocannon of some kind.

"Alright everyone" The Lieutenant says over the radio. "I want three of you to form up on me, don't care who. We'll be the first guard group. The other four will board the trailer and trade off with us when our power runs low. Let's hustle, we're burning daylight!"

Rick, Scott, and Bill's Sutherlands don't move, they look like they're content with riding in the trailer. You could slip in with them and ride for the first three hours in peace and quiet...but you're not sure you want to hang around them anymore then you already have, after all you don't want to drag them into your own personal war. The other three nameless pilots seem hesitant to step forward, so you could join the Lieutenant and guard for the first three hours.

What do you wish to do?

>Join Scott, Bill, and Rick in the trailer.

You roll over and take a place by your familiar comrades by the trailer, forcing the unnamed soldiers to join the Lieutenant as the first guard group.

"Kickass, I was hoping you'd join up with us like before. I'm gonna feel a lot more comfortable riding with you." Rick says with a laugh as you all begin to board the trailer, the shutters on the sides of the large trailer slide down and ramps deploy from the four spots so you can board with ease.

"Yeah, it seemed like you were gonna brush us off and leave us with some stranger there for a minute." Scott says a bit nervously, rolling his Sutherland up and into the trailer.

"What is this, high school?" Bill says in a bit of a growl "We're not a in a squad, if she wants to join up with other people then that's her decision." You can't help but think that Bill sounds somewhat upset from his tone and the way he rolls his Sutherland into his spot on the trailer, practically crashing his Knightmare into it's spot.

You board in silence and allow your Knightmare to be locked down into place, power cables dropping from the ceiling and sliding their way into the appropriate slots. With a constant flow of power keeping your Energy Filler charged the shutters on the trailer begin to slide shut, leaving your external cameras in the dark.

Within moments the trailer begins moving as noted by the soft vibrations that begin running through your suit.

It's going to be a long three hours, what do you want to do?

>Ask Bill what's the matter? He sounds kind of pissed...

You ride in silence for a bit, sinking back into the padding seat of your Sutherland and contemplating getting some more shuteye. However Bill's tone from before grates on you and begins to bug you the more you think about it. Using your radio, you open a private line to Bill and decide to chat with him about what's bugging him

"Sooo...Uhh" You immediately freeze up and stutter on the line. Talking with friends or schoolmates about their problems is one thing, but talking to another soldier feels different, more awkward then what you're used too.

"What do you want?" Bill replies gruffly, practically grunting in response.

"Well you sound'd pretty upset when I joined up with you and the others. Is something bothering you? Wanna talk about it?" You ask, trying to sound as friendly as you can.

"Not particularly. What's it matter anyway? Being pissed off isn't going to matter if we get into a fight" Bill states, his voice tense and blunt.

"Listen, I'm not really one to talk about anger considering my...mood swings. However if you go into a fight pissed off about something unrelated to what's going on it's going to distract you."

Bill is silent for a moment and you're about to test his radio when he speaks again.

"This is going to sound childish, but I'm jealous you got promoted." Bill admits.

"Really? That's what this is about? Why didn't you say anything back in the Major's office?"

"Because I didn't do enough to get promoted. My jealousy doesn't have any base, you took all the risks and made most of the decisions. You entirely deserve your promotion. I guess my anger's just misplaced, I should be upset with myself more then anything. I've had every chance to take charge and make a difference, but I didn't, I played it safe and followed you."

No, it's a good thing we asked him, it seems.

Unaddressed issues like that could become a real problem once on the battlefield. We should stay vigilant about our comrade's problems in the future, especially if we are causing them, directly or not.
>>
>>35757974
"Well it's not like you were ignored. You got booted up to private like the others and we all got to skip two weeks of training we probably didn't need, so that's something. I don't see why you'd be so upset. If anything you should be fairly happy. I mean it could be worse, you could be dead!"

"I know, it's stupid. I feel like a damn child for feeling this way. But I can't help but shake this feeling of disappointment in myself. I joined the military so I could gain prestige and try to stop being a blight on my family name. However if it weren't for you I probably would have just another casualty..." Bill let's out a heavy sigh.

>Berate Bill. While he's admitted his behavior isn't proper, he made you worry and wasted your time.

>Try to Encourage Bill, he'll have plenty of opportunities to make a name for himself. Especially with Zero's return supposedly coming up.

“Why do you think you’re such a disgrace?” You try to sound comforting and concerned, but it’s difficult to hide your confusion.

“The fact you’re alive and sane after the surprise attack and that death trap of a simulation we were sent through should speak wonders about your competence. Besides it’s not like you missed your one shot at glory or anything, I mean Zero’s supposed to return any day now! Once he does you’ll have every chance in the world to gain prestige for your family name. I can’t see why you’d think you were a disgrace after everything you’ve just lived through.”

“Well when you’re a bastard, just being alive at all is considered a disgrace.” Bill says bitterly.

“When I said I wasn't related to the famous Steiner family, I was lying. I was conceived out of wedlock and became a fat blot on the Steiner family’s name from the day I was born. Not a whole lot of people know I’m really related to the Steiner family, but enough people do that they've been able to take advantage of my family by threatening to reveal my existence to the public.”

You can't help but grimace at that. You're not very familiar with noble politics, being a commoner and all, but even you know that bastard children are a huge problem for the legitimacy of lesser noble families and the reveal of hidden ones are often huge scandals that cost the involved nobles business opportunities and valuable respect...

"That's why I want to climb my way up the military ladder and become prestigious on the battlefield. If I gain enough respect and influence then no one will be able to hold my name above my family's head anymore. I need to stop playing it safe and take risks, even if I die at least my death will mean no one can use me against my family..."

Bill sounds wracked with uncertainty and a tremendous amount of frustration.

“Don’t be a fool.” You snap, your anger rising and your blood beginning to boil as Bill’s situation begins to click with your own.

“Taking risks doesn’t mean throwing your life away over something stupid, it means knowing when something is risking your life over. Getting yourself killed just so your family won’t have their name blemished is idiocy. You want to become prestigious? Then start looking after yourself. Swallow that anger, play it smart, and stay alive.”

“What’s that going to do? What’s the point in staying alive if all you have to live for is being looked down on and shit on for the rest of your days!?” Bill demands, practically yelling over the radio.

“Do you know what the most dangerous kind of trap is Bill?” You ask, your voice dropping. “At the end of the day it’s not ambushes, mines, or clever little things made with rope, no, the most dangerous kind of trap is the one no one thinks works. If people think you can’t hurt them, then they don’t pay any attention to you, they laugh at you, mock you, and eventually they forget you."

Your hands tighten around the arms of your seat and you smile as you speak.

"If you bottle up your anger and let it sit deep inside you, then you can uncork the bottle when you need it the most. Use your anger, use all the hatred and frustration you have fuel you towards what you want. You just need to be patient. I have, and so far things have been going wonderfully..."

There's silence for the next couple of minutes and you sit in the dark waiting for a response, listening to the now quick paced beat of your heart.

Eventually Bill speaks.

"You're right Kuu. I just need to be patient. I've spent my entire life enduring through hell and hoping for a chance to change things. I need to stop hoping and start thinking, who cares if I have to wait? After all he who waits for something good never waits too long.'

Filled with dark thoughts from your conversation with Bill, you decide you want to lighten your mood and patch a line to Scott’s Knightmare.

“Hey Scott, how are you?” You ask, sounding a little breathless, your heart still beating fast from your emotional conversation with Bill.

“Uh, fine I guess. You were talking to Bill weren't you?”

“Why do you say that? You can’t hear use through the walls and our cockpits, can you?” You bite your lower lip, face going a bit red from embarrassment and worry.

“Oh no, no. I just talked with Bill and he sounds a lot better than he did before. Considering we've seen Rick's conversation skills in action I just assumed it was you. I’m assuming he told you about his family issues?”

“Wait, you knew?”

“Well yeah. I mean can you blame me for not bringing it up? I rag on him for lying about stupid shit but when it comes to that I don't blame him in the least."

“You two are friends? You seemed pretty close when I first talked to you, but I just assumed that was because you knew each other from training."

Bill sighs and you can here nervous scratching over the radio. "Yeah, we've known each other from when we were kids. His family hates my guts and would lose their minds if they knew he's kept in contact with me all these years."

You nod your head. "Well they are a noble family, a lot of them aren't comfortable with their kids hanging out with commoners. It's stupid really."

"Oh no, it's not that I'm a commoner, it's...well you know about Refrain right? The psychotropic that causes you to remember stuff like you're really there? The one that's sold to all the Numbers? Well my Dad's the guy who invented it."

He might not, Flea "killing" nunally lead to events leading to his capture.
also, zero "left" at the massacre the japan zone event 2.0, so he might be conscious and plotting right now.

>>35760753
(For more clarification, timeline wise this takes place a couple weeks after Episode 23. Only Ephemia didn't go on a massacre and Lelouch didn't assault the Settlement and get captured)

You eyes widen and you clench your teeth.

"B-but I thought..."

"That it was invented in the Chinese Federation? That's a load of bull. Refrain was born in the same house I was, right around the same time too. My Dad was some hot shot chemist who was better at making drugs then he was at holding a job or taking care of his family. He spent ten long years shelling out that garbage to punks on the street before he got caught. Shitty thing was he got caught right around the time we were occupying Area 11 and apparently the high hats thought Refrain would be a good way to keep the Elevens nice and placid. So instead of putting him to the sword they put him to work and he went from a nobody, to a nobody responsible for poisoning the Numbers from every Area from 3 to 18." Every mention of the word 'Dad' that comes from Scott's mouth oozes with disgust and hatred.

You bite down on your tongue and close your eyes. You wanted to think of happier things, not, not...

"Listen, I'm sorry to break this to you. You probably hate my guts just for being related to the bastard who cooked up the stuff you're hooked on.

Your eyes bolt open and you practically scream over the Radio.

"I. Don't. Use. REFRAIN!"

"Really? Then what did you shoot yourself up with after the simulation? That seizure you had was the same Refrain addicts have when they have a bad trip."

You're practically banging on your Dashboard as you speak, outraged at being accused of willingly taking that crimson red poison.

You're about ready to go off on Scott when you realize he's crying.

You're tempted to just shut off the radio and sleep then and there, but from the sound of the young guy's crying he honestly just wanted to help. He was an idiot and more then a bit of a dick for assuming you were using Refrain...but your medication doesn't exactly make that hard to assume.

"Scott. I'm sorry for yelling, but Refrain is more then a little bit of a sensitive subject for me. It's nice that you want to help, but I'm not an addict. The medication I take definitely isn't for pleasure, it's to keep me alive and thinking clearly."

"Y-yeah I understand...I'm sorry."

"It's alright."

Turning off the radio you press yourself in your seat and close your eyes. Sleep comes quickly but it doesn't last long as you're soon you're trading spots with the other group and riding along side the convoy. Normally the mountain scenery would put you at east, but you can't see the beauty of the forest or the tiny streams, all you can see is the danger and the possibility of an attack.

You remain alert and paranoid, using your Factsphere regularly and keeping an eye out for anything remotely suspicious, sometimes spotting the convoy when you spot a rock in the road. Despite all the stops you make excellent time, and eventually reach Otsuki. You're ready to breath a sigh of relief when you realize that you're entering what used to be the Special Administration Zone.

Blown out and burned out buildings dot the side of the road, carters and bullet holes pepper the roads and the sidewalks, with the concrete and asphalt stained deep shades of brown from what you can only guess was blood. It's deathly quiet as you roll down the street, looking over the building and looking for any sign of movement.

You look down and frown as you see your energy Filler only at 50 minutes of power left. You're about to ask the Lieutenant if it would be a good idea to stop and switch out when you hear Bill over the radio.

calling a RPG attack!

"There's a heat signature in front of us. It's inside that building, the one with the garage shutter."

You're about to active your Factsphere yourself when the shutter, not a mere forty feet in front of you, launches up to reveal a Knightmare. Before you can denote how familiar it looks to the ones you fought at the base or raise your weapon you notice the large barrel sticking out of the machine's chest.

"That thing's got some kind of cannon! Scatter! SCATTER!" You, Bill, Scott, and Rick peel out in all directions, with the buses reversing and the APC burning rubber to get out of the way.

Everything but the Knightmare Trailer manages to get off the main road when the strange Knightmare fires. In an instant the upper half of the trailer is torn away with a sudden and first blast, the Sutherland's explosions only assisting the scattering and spraying of debris and scrap metal as bits of the trailer and the people inside shoot out all over the street.

It takes you a moment to register what happened when gunfire breaks out and the sound of RPGs fill your ears...
