The fact that the GM was in on it redeems the story slightly, but not completely.

Classic example of forum RPGs being shit.
>>
So, there we were. The paladin, the bard, the alchemist and the ranger, standing before the main entrance to Harrowstone. We had just finished up the rats and were rightfully cautious now. Detect evil and the bards detect magic on EVERYTHING. I sensed some evil right on the otherside of the main entrance, so we geared up for a fight, thinking it might be a zombie or two. Bard kicks the door open, I run in, ready to fuck shit up and the ranger is covering from behind with a bow. Empty. I detect evil again, sense ot all around, but before I can say anything, everyone had already stepped into the little lobby area. SLAM! Main door shuts, and everything is on fire. Literally. 4 doors, one being the main door, are on fire and as you look into the flames you can see burning bodies and hear screaming in your head. Oh shit. Alchemist is cowering in the corner, everyone else almost does too. After some quick knowledge checks, it's a haunt and we basically have to destroy all the doors with holy energy. Fuck that, smoke is filling the room, let's get out of here and deal with it later. So we picked a door at random, leading deeper into the prison and proceed to fling holy water while the ranger starts hacking away with his polearm. Busted it down, got out of that death trap and were now in an L shaped hallway, with a series of doors. We decide to check out the first door, because why not. Leads to a small room with a desk facing a wall and a big iron door on the back wall. We check the desk and its an evidence log. Look through the desk, no key. Fuck that, we are getting in that evidence room. So the bard takes 20 to pick the lock while everyone else keeps an eye out for more shenanigans. Can't get it open. So the ranger and bard start pounding on the door, trying to break it down, barely making progress after a couple of minutes when I ask the alchemist how many bombs he still has left. Cont...
>>
>>35848267
So, the alchemist has 4 left. Perfect. Already detected evil on the other side, something was in there, so we geared up for another fight as I explained to the alchemist how to make a water charge out of 2 bombs and a few flasks of holy water. We set the charge, ran into the hallway and waited for a few seconds. BOOM. Run in to see the iron door blown into the evidence room, a crushed skeleton, and two pissed of shadow creatures burning from the holy water spray in the air. We made short work of them, since we utterly surprised them and got some loot. After that, the DM said I was no longer allowed to use real world applications of explosives outside of modern settings. Oh and the key was literally in the next room.

>>35848279
From earlier, same anon:

>Never Split The Party!

So, there we were. A paladin (me), a bard, a ranger, and an alchemist. We travelled a few hours to the source of the strange going ons, Harrowstone prison. Abandoned after a prison riot that turned into a massive fire, killing everyone. Lots of bad spirits still clinging to the mortal plane. We approach the main gate, the wind perfectly still and a dense fog all around, can barely see 20 feet away. As we approach we can hear a periodic long squeeeeeeeeeak. Its the main gate, swinging back and forth slowly, yet no wind. We stop a few feet away and make a game plan. The bard and ranger would scout the other side real quick, just see whats in the immediate area of the gate, no more thab 100 feet away. They were supposed to sneak around all quiet like, then give us the all clear for our considerably less subtle two to come in. Well, they followed the wall for a bit, when they saw a guard tower with a ladder going to the top. They figured they could see above the fog, maybe even see which direction the main prison is. So they walk to the ladder and that's when they hear it. Chittering, scratching, and the sound of many small things moving. Rats. Not just any rats though, shadow rats were hiding among them too.

So what do they do? They run back to the gate, screaming for help, with swarms of rats carpeting the courtyard following them, biting at their heels. So much for stealth. The alchemist and I book it to meet up with them, hopefully before the rats eat them. After a suprisingly nasty fight and some Str damage, we didnt move more than a few feet away from each other for the rest of the time. Well, that is until we wound up in a tight corridor with some skeleton champions and the alchemist had the bright idea of running in front of the paladin and the ranger so he didn't have a range penalty on his bomb. But that was later in the prison.

If you can wrap your head around the esoteric dice rolling mechanics, Legends of Wulin. The stock disciplines should cover everything you need but if you want to home brew more the book comes with guides on how to do just that. Check it out

I mean, I've tried it and seen people try it. It never ended successfully.
>>
>>35839378
You know as amazing as that story is I actually despise it what some players frequently get "private RP time" with the DM to do all sorts of stuff that nobody else knows about or gets the chance to do something. I mean I know some people have less time or more time to play but DMs picking their favorites amongst the group and handing them "shiny extras" is bad business in general.
>>
>>35852090
Maybe they ask. Have you tried asking?

I can definitely see how it could easily go wrong, but one week my Shadowrun GM decided to do one on one sessions with all the players and it was fuckin' cool.

Granted, SR lends itself well to the group breaking up and doing their own things for a little bit.

Anyone can break someone's heart, but it is a special thing to give a horrible, depraved monster a heart just so that you can break it. That rogue is truly the evilest of them all.

And I hope he shouted so just before running the fuck out of town while the Wizard, Barbarian, and witch broke down sobbing in the street
>>
>>35852090
I feel like with phones and text messaging you could actually accomplish this during the regular session. Much easier and more believably than "I pass the DM notes that nobody else sees or notices."

And also, it doesn't sound like the janitor was doing much explicitly in the actual sessions. Gotta get his turncoatyness played out without tipping off the others, y'know?

I figured given the subject matter of this thread, this would be the best place to ask.

I just joined a Pathfinder group and I feel like doing... SOMETHING. Either something to subtly derail the campaign or something to make everyone paranoid or something else, I dunno.

Any advice, /tg/?
>>
>>35882098
Convince us the group deserves it first.
>>
>>35882126

Oh, sorry, I should have included that it doesn't have to be something BAD, just something that when it reaches its climax, everyone is just stunned. If you've seen the story of the character who carried around the teddy bear or whatever, it can be something as simple as that. I just want this to be something I can manipulate and plan out for shits and giggles.
>>
>>35882265
What i'd do is something along the lines of this

>roll ranger
>specialize in throwing weapons
>pick up carpenting as a skill
>Deliberatly suck at carpenting
>Carry around a hammer anyway
>When you lose your main weapon, switch to throwing hammers
>from that point on, just carry around 20 hammers wherever you go
>Claim complete ignorance of the Mc Hammer ever existing when confronted

And just be hilarious doing it, of course
>>
>>35882907

Ha. That's pretty funny.

I was wondering if I could cause some shenanigans with a druid and awaken or something.

I'm sure wizard is full of nonsense as well. Oh decisions decisions...

They don't tear you apart if they don't know you're plotting against them. That's why you conspire with the DM between sessions (passing notes is too obvious, thugh you could possibly get away with texts during the session) and ensure that whatever you engineer is in no way linked back to you or your character.

The first time the other players were aware of the betrayal was when only one had survived and was at full health. Who was then easily one-shotted. Who was going to tear him apart?

No need to be sceptic. Some thing just go smooth as butter out of pure luck.
One could say that this >>35874379
is fake since the player could choose the wrong options during the trial and get upset for failing.
