You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

After what seems like forever, you and Sylvie are actually hanging out in a non-magical-related fashion! She's going into town to pick up a new pair of glasses after Rana completely destroyed her old pair, and you managed to convince her to let you tag along.

It looks like Rana and Racquel both want to tag along, but Sylvie doesn't seem to want to be bothered with either of them.

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Much larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are also that much more dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they still don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

>"What're you two up to?" Racquel asks. "A try-" she starts coughing. "an, er... outing?"
>"I'm going to pick up my glasses," Sylvie replies. "Reinhold decided to tag along."
>"Ooh!" Racquel starts smiling. "That sounds like fuuuuuun!"
>"All I'm doing is getting a new pair of glasses and then coming right back," she replies. "What's fun about that?"
>"But you're going into town!" she starts bouncing up and down. "I never get to go into town!"

"It's just a quick trip," you say, not wanting to get involved in this any more than you have to. "Nothing worth getting excited over."
"That's right," Sylvie replies. "So go and play with Rana and hope that she doesn't end up breaking -your- glasses in the process."
"C'mon, I already apologized like twenty times already..." Rana mumbles as she makes a point not to look directly at Sylvie.
"No fair..." Racquel groans. "I didn't even say anything gross and you're STILL being mean to me!"

Looks like she really wants to tag along.

"I'm not being -mean-," Sylvie sighs, "I just don't want to be bothered today, okay? The only reason I'm going with Reinhold is because he absolutely INSISTED on coming along."
"Hey, don't make it looks like I'm at fault here," you say, holding your hands up in the air.
"Oh yeah?" Racquel places her hands on her hips. "Well I'm gonna absolutely insists on coming along too-"

Unfortunately for the little girl, her display of assertion is ruined by Rana unceremoniously picking her up and placing her under her arm.

"Eheh... c'mon, Racquel," Rana says as she holds the squirming Racquel in place. "Your sister's already pissed at me and I don't want her to hate me outright..."
"But -I'm- not the one who did anything wrong!" Racquel whines.

"Tell you what," you say, "how about I get you something while we're out?"
"What?" Sylvie stares at you.
"That's a decent consolation for not being able to go, right?"
"...you'd buy me something?" Racquel asks, her eyes sparkling.

You're starting to get a bad feeling about this.

"I'm not promising anything amazing, but it's not like buying something for you would be a lot of trouble for me," you say, shrugging.
"C- can I make a request then?" Racquel asks.
"Um, maybe?"

The little blonde girl starts pacing around in a circle for a few seconds, mumbling something under her breath while repeatedly adjusting her glasses. The glare that the constant movement of her lenses causes has the sideeffect of making her look especially creepy.

"There's a writer who goes by the penname 'Jeanine Ambrose,'" Racquel says. "I overheard the maids back home saying that she has a new book out, so if you cold maybe pick it up for me wile you're out?"

Racquel is pouring on the charm as best she can, but her big sister is completely unimpressed.

"...and what -kind- of book would this happen to be?" Sylvie asks.
"A novel," Racquel replies. "'Cuz I like to read."
"And what kind of -novel- would this happen to be?"
"A good one?"

"Owww!" Racquel clutches her head. "Why'd you hit me, Sylvie!?"
"You know exactly why, you little pervert," Sylvie growls, holding up a clenched fist as if she's preparing for a second punch.
"It's just a book, I don't see why-"
"Okay, I guess she doesn't want a gift after all," Rana says as she turns around, Racquel still nestled snugly under her arm. "See you two later..."
"Yeah, whatever," Sylvie mumbles.
"Waaaaaaait!" Racquel yells. "I still want a thing!"

Racquel angrily puffs out her cheeks... but the effect is somewhat lost since she's being carried around like a piece of luggage.

"I can do that," you reply.
"But if you decide to change your mind, the author's name is-"
"BYE, YOU TWO," Rana shouts as she hurries down the hall with the little pervert in tow.

Sylvie lets out an exasperated sigh before walking over to the carriage and hopping inside. You're not too far behind, and soon the two of you are on your way into town.

You look over to the other side of the carriage where Sylvie is sitting... she's looking out the window and seems to be lost in thought. You're not sure if she's depressed about something or maybe it's just lingering annoyance from having to deal with Racquel immediately before leaving the castle, but you don't really feel right just sitting here without trying to take her mind off whatever it is that's bothering her.

"Hey Sylvie," you call out.
"Hm?" Sylvie mumbles, not taking her gaze from the scenery outside the window.
"Elena was talking to Sir Gregory today... I guess she heard about Niklaus's fight with your father."

"Yeah," Sylvie replies with a nod. "I can get around well enough with these ones on, but everything's kind of fuzzy since my eyes are worse than Racquel's are and it's giving me a slight headache."
"Ouch. Glasses must be a pain, huh."
"Only when they break," she sighs.

And so, you follow Sylvie as she heads to wherever it is that she gets her glasses from, taking note of places where you might be able to get something for Racquel as you walk. You're not particularly familiar with this part of town and you doubt that Sylvie would appreciate a detour to your usual stomping grounds, so this seems like the right way to go about things.

After somewhere around ten minutes of walking, Sylvie stops in front of a building with a sign that reads "Optometrist." It's not a word that you're particularly familiar with.

"This shouldn't take too long," Sylvie says, opening the door. "...as long as there aren't too many people in front of me, that is."
"I'm in no hurry," you reply as you follow her inside.

"Just great," Sylvie sighs. "Reinhold, go and save a seat for me while I check in with the secretary."
"No problem," you reply.

You notice a few heads perk up at the mention of you name and glance at you before returning to what they were doing before. Suddenly you're reminded that you are kind of a minor celebrity around these parts...

...but one person in particular is starting at you. And then she starts waving at you.

"So what brings you out here?" you ask as you take a seat next to your sister. "You're getting glasses?"
"Nah," Citrine shakes her head. "Marius was long overdue to get his eyes checked so I finally managed to force him to come here," she says.

Oh yeah, Marius does wear glasses...

"He's such a dumbass sometimes," Citrine says, having fully shifted into "annoyed wife" mode. "He's an artist so I -really- don't get why he doesn't take better care of his eyes... I swear, that man would be completely lost without me to look after him."
"Sounds rough," you reply.

"W- well I mean I'm sure Marius thinks that you're still pretty," you say with an embarrassed smile. "'Cuz you are, I mean they say that expecting mothers have a glow about them and I'm sure that your baby will be like the cutest one ever and-"

Just then, you notice Sylvie finishing up with the receptionist, thank God. Seizing this opportunity to change the subject, you wave your friend over and she takes a seat beside you.

"Oh, you're Reinhold's sister..." Sylvie says with a faint smile. "I haven't seen you in a while. It's Citrine, right?"

After Sylvie and Citrine gets done trading explanations of what they're doing here at the optometrist's, a certain idea forms in your head...

"Hey Citrine," you begin, "we're going to be having a picnic sometime soon, and I was wondering if maybe you wanted to join us?"
"Eh?" Sylvie stares at you. "Reinhold, isn't this supposed to be for Elena? I mean, your sister is nice and all but I dunno if it's okay to just be inviting people like this..."
"Oh..." Citrine nods. "I don't want to be intruding on a private get-together..."

"Ooh!" Citrine snaps her fingers. "guess what I got today!"
"...I have no idea," you shrug. "Baby stuff?"
"Nope!" she sticks her tongue out at you.

Tugging on her collar, Citrine reaches into her chest and pulls out an envelope. You guess that's one habit that she's yet to break...

"What's that?" you ask.
"It's a letter, silly!" Citrine giggles. "Take a look!"

"Dear Citrine," it reads, "how have you two been doing since I last saw you? I do hope that your pregnancy is going along smoothly. If I'm remembering it right, I believe you should be about three months along by now?"

You look up from the letter and turn to Citrine.

"Hey," you say, "is this from..."
"Just keep on reading!" Citrine replies.

And so you do.

"I'm sure you've heard about the border issue," the letter says, "but I have it on very good authority that the restrictions on leaving the country will be easing up soon. Important trade vessels an caravans will be allowed to enter and exit Marconetti, as well as VIPs... and as a personal friend of a certain old man, I happen to be included in that latter category."

The anticipation is too much, you can't keep from smiling.

"As this is my first opportunity to do so, I believe that I shall be taking you up on that offer to come and visit you and your husband sometime very soon. Assuming that this is fine with the two of you, naturally. And while I'm visiting, I'd like to perhaps visit Reinhold over at the castle, as well as whip that Gregory into shape while I'm at it."

"Wow," Sylvie turns to you. "She was really nice when I was with her, I'm sure you're happy to be able to see her again."
"I sure am," you nod.

And then you remember that Elena was practically attached to her during the party... she's sure to be ELATED when she finds out that Agnes will be coming to Granache. "Likewise," Marius replies. "It kind of sucks that we only ever really see each other on chance encounters, but being able to see my brother-in-law at all is always nice."
"It sure is!" Citrine says as she walks over to you and gives you a hug.
"Actually," you say. "when Grandma gets into town, maybe we could all have dinner together at your place? ...if it's okay with you, I mean."
"Huh, that sounds like an idea," Marius nods. "But Citrine's in charge of all non-art-related matters of our household so I'll leave the final decision up to her."

Citrine turns to her husband with the smuggest look ever.

"You know full well that I'd never say no to that," Citrine says.
"Eheh..." Marius shrugs.
"So it's decided then..." Citrine says, clasping her hands together. "Hey Sylvie, would you like ot join us as well once we get everything set up?"
"Eh!?" Sylvie stammers. "N- no, I mean I appreciate the offer but I really couldn't..." she says.

On that awkward note, Marius and Citrine make their goodbyes and leave the two of you to your waiting. She comes back barely five minutes later, making you wonder what the hell the others were doing back there that took so long.

"Ready to go?" Sylvie asks as she puts a glasses case in her pocket.
"Whenever you are," you reply, getting up from your seat.

"I guess not..."

Great, she's making that face again.

"Umm..." you laugh nervously, "...what does she like, anyways? Besides dirty novels and innuendoes, I mean."

"Racquel loves frogs, she thinks that they're adorable."
"Really?"

First, you head over to a stack of boxes of chocolates and pick up a box for Marianne. She has a sweet tooth, and something like this might serve to cheer her up about being sick. Then you backtrack over to a clothing rack that you passed on the way in here... yeah, that red cape and this hat would be perfect for Elena.

Once you adjust the things that you're carrying so that nothing falls, you make your way over to a bookshelf that Sylvie is rifling through.

"...what's with all that stuff?" Sylvie asks. "You're not getting all of that for Racquel, are you?"
"Nah," you shake your head. "This's for Elena and Marianne."
"Oh," she nods. "Okay then."

While Sylvie returns to her book browsing, you poke through the shelves until you find a children's book about frogs. It has cute illustrations paired with information written at a level high enough that you don't think Racquel will be insulted if you get it for her.

Given that she's known to read... "adult" material, you're pretty sure that the usual children's fare wouldn't interest her too much.

"Two sisters get a present but not the oldest?" you say. "Like I said before, I don't want to cause a fight."

Sylvie starts to mumble under her breath as she follows you to the counter and you pay for everything that you just bought.

Once your purchasing is finished with, you and Sylvie head straight for the carriage. Sylvie seems extremely embarrassed as she helps you load in all of the stuff that you bought, but at least she isn't mad at you anymore.

Probably.

Once everything is in the carriage, you close the door and begin the long ride back home.
>>
>>35850846
Now we just wait and see our girlfriend's reaction when we didn't get her a present.
>>
And that's it for tonight, guys. I got through the enitre trip in a single thread.
inb4 "nothing happened"

I'm tired as hell so I'm going to keep it short... the next thread will be Thursday night, for those who were wondering.

and now for some questions maybe
>>
>>35850846
Crap, it's late now, and we haven't got Karel's answer.
>>
>>35850850
We gave her three fucking grimoires last time.
>>
>>35850855

Cheers for the thread, OP!
>>
>>35850855
Cheers.

How late is it?

>inb4 "nothing happened"

We were (sort of) nice to Sylvie, that's gotta count for something.
>>
>>35850855
Thanks arch

So how will this stuff fit into the VN (trips, gifts ect)?
>>
>>35850855
Thanks for running Arch.
Maybe now we finally get it through to Sylvie that Reinhold still cares for her and wants to continue being her friend even outside of magic lessons.

>>35850883
And don't forget we read the letter from granny, made dinner plans and bought presents for everyone!
>>
>>35850855
>>35850883
Also, is it just me or is something getting to you? You sound wearier these days.
>>
>>35850862
Yes, but that was a month ago. The king did warn us that girls are expensive, after all.
>>
>>35850896

This is a good point. We should make it up to Luciana by baking a cake.
>>
>>35850855
Is there really no chance for a Red Meteor quest? cos, you know, that would be an awesome quest. And you really want to do it. You really do. Deep down. Just think of cute little Elena in that red cape holding a sword. How can you not want to run it? It's unthinkable. So, of course, you want to run it.
>>
>>35850897
I think it's best to get her something when she's with us, she's sure to have better taste than we do.

Llamma cake can though...though I wonder how effective an ax shaped cake would work. Marianne may hit us for a while, but our girlfriend would get a kick out of it.
>>
>>35850980
I think that one more axe joke and Marianne will personally use one to execute us in public.
>>
>>35850980
A llama cake with a wedding cake-esque figure of Marianne on top weilding a halberd would be perfect

Somewhere around the vicinity of six.

>>35850894

Normally, I guess? This whole thing was just a little aside.

>>35850896
>Also, is it just me or is something getting to you? You sound wearier these days.
Constant griping about every single little thing that I do becomes grating after a while.

Yeah, and then I remember all the shitstorms and retarded decisions that I'll inevitably face and that desire immediately leaves me.

And now it is time for me to finally sleep. Thanks for playing!~

Speaking of, we still need to talk to our brother-in-law about making our doodle into a portrait and give it to the king on his birthday.
>>
>>35851026
>Yeah, and then I remember all the shitstorms and retarded decisions that I'll inevitably face and that desire immediately leaves me.
I guess players would also want to jump on the first cute character they come across, and that would not be appropriate behavior for the Red Meteor

>>35851061
Marianne would kill us, lets do it.

I ship it.

Could be cool. Would love it if she sat in on a training session with Arnaud.
>>
>>35850862
Yeah, we should have rationed those. Held on to one as an emergency "look, I screwed up, I'm sorry" or "no I actually didn't forget to get you a gift on this very important day which I totally remember the significance of!" gift.
>>
Do we really have to stick with Sylvie more than we have to? She's been a real downer every time we manage to get her alone. Hell, if she catches the quest-goers at a bad time, things will get worse.
>>
>>35852238
This is like the first time we've spent time with her in ages
>>
>>35852238
We don't need her going Theresa on us, as tough as Rein is she'd still kick his ass.

Sylvie's mopey around Rein because when she's with Rein, he reminds of how much she isn't with Rein, if you catch my drift.

The best thing we can probably do for her is have her around a bunch of other people as well so that she can come to terms with Rein not being that important.
>>
Jesus Christ, Sylvie is still a bitch. 0/10 Worst girl
>>
>>35854798
You're worst girl!
But really, this is largely our fault. Well, not my fault, I wasn't following this quest until after the routelock but it is your fault. Probably.
>>
>>35854848

Damn straight.
>>
>>35854848
No. It is your fault for not following the quest before the routelock. You could have prevented this situation, if not for you absence.
>>
>>35855296
Shit, that's a good point.
Somebody give Sylvie my apologies.
>>
Luciana best girl. Thank you based anons for making the right choice.
>>
>>35856357
Yes she is. The balcony+assassins scene sealed the deal for me. So, you're welcome Anon, I cast my vote for her.

Also, next time we see Karel we should offer to spar with her. She could use a chance to work out her frustrations and stress, and she probably wants to hit Reinhold some after him being pushy about telling someone.
>>
Looking forward to the VN so I can go Sylvie route.
And then every other route.
>>
>>35856357
I supported Luciana only to end the waifu bullshit, because she was the best girl Rein could get with at the time

>>35857400
I'd start with Marianne, but every route needs a visit.
>>
>>35856357
Luci/the Luci route aren't inherently the issue.
It's the dickish way in which Rein (and, yeah, I guess also Luci) treated Sylvie which is the problem.
>>
>>35857552
I kinda miss when there was a vocal party for "remaining porfessional" and not rushing into any romance. Think that died pretty early on, relatively speaking.
>>
>>35857541
so your one of the people that made rein into an asshole
>>
>>35857621
Rein was an arse long before then, I just aided in that spesific dickish move.
>>
>>35857586
I read through it on the archives and before peaches I was all for Nico but after peaches I was of the opinion that Rein's closest relationship should be with Mari, professionally, platonically, romantically, whatever, I think Rein's primary focus should have been helping her out from there on out and that it might not leave much room for treating a girlfriend properly if we're making another girl our top priority.
Having said that, Nico still a best, just maybe not for Rein.
>>
>>35857726
>Nico still a best, just maybe not for Rein
I think that goes for most of the girls. I don't feel too many of them are good fits for him.
>>
>>35857726
Also, I don't have any regrets on the Luci route or any other major decisions the playerbase has made,
I mean, dumb decisions have somehow won out now and again but as a story, it's been a damn interesting read, even if it isn't the story I would have made given the same choices.

As a friend of mine always says: "You don't get good stories from smart desicions."
That's why he gets blackout drunk each weekend and does a lot of stupid shit.
>>
>>35857753
>I think that goes for most of the girls
No, only Nico a best.
>>
>People pretending to like Luci

I'm glad you guys latched onto the most boring and safe character in the quest.
