You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

Dinner is over with, and Sylvie's gone back home... you were able to deliver the presents that you bought her and her sisters before they left, so that's one thing off your to-do list for the night.

Next up is going to bother Marianne.

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Much larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are also that much more dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they still don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

While you'd like to go and bug Karel about that stuff that you talked to her about earlier this morning, you'd also like to get these chocolates to Marianne before she ends up going to sleep.

And given that she's sick, there's a fair chance that she's asleep right now...

Keeping hope that she's just lying in bed reading a book or doing something else along those lines, you heft your bag over your shoulder and make your way upstairs. It's so rare that you walk this route that you'd forgotten just how long it is... luckily, you've already unloaded most of the things that you bought so it's not like to have a particularly heavy load to bear.

Stopping in front of Marianne's bedroom door, you reach into you bag to make sure that the box of chocolates is on top. Given that you're about to disturb her, you figure that it's probably best if you're able to get out the point as quickly as possible.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

You wait a little while... no response.

But just as you're about to give up on this endeavor, you hear something moving on the other side of the door.

"Who is it?" Marianne's weak voice calls out from inside the room.
"It's Reinhold!" you call out in response.
"...why are you..."

You're pretty sure that you hear the Princess grumbling, but the sound of her voice is soon drowned out by the door's locking mechanism turning and the door itself sliding inward.

The door opens -just- enough for Marianne to be able to peek out into the hallway, her violet eyes staring at you with a look that is far from welcoming.

"What do you want, Reinhold?" Marianne asks. "It's late and I'm tired."

"I just wanted to see how you were doing," you say to the Princess.
"I'm not about to keel over or anything, if that's what you were wondering," Marianne replies. "But I -am- feeling rather awful right now so if you don't mind..." she says as she retreats into her room.

But before she can close her door, your free hand shoots out and holds it in place.

"...what are you doing?" Marianne glares at you.
"That wasn't the only reason I came up here," you reply, letting go of the door as Marianne continues to look at you as if you're a total moron.

Reaching into your bag, you pull out the chocolates that you bought Marianne and hand them to her.

"Uh..." Marianne examines the box. "what is this?"
"A get well present," you reply. "I was in town today earlier with Sylvie and I thought that I ought to get you something to cheer you up."

As the Princess lifts the cover off of the box, a faint smile forms on her lips.

"Well," Marianne says as she gazes at the chocolates. "This is definitely a pleasant surprise."
"So you like them?" you ask. "I know that you like sweets, so..."
"Yes," Marianne nods. "This is most appreciated."

Another successful gift!

"...and now I think I'll go and finish these off before I go to bed," Marianne says as she starts back into her room. "Thank you and goodnight."

"Oh yeah," you say, snapping your fingers.
"What is it now?" Marianne asks.
"I ran into Citrine while we were in the city and I kind of invited her on the picnic thing..."

Marianne doesn't look all that happy to hear that.

"...great, now even more people are coming," Marianne rumbles before breaking into a coughing fit.
"Sorry," you reply, "I didn't think you'd mind having Citrine around, so-"
"It's not that I dislike your sister," Marianne cuts you off, "it's just that inviting more and more people makes this seem like it's going to be an actual thing. All because you were stupid enough to take seriously something that I'd said in jest."

"But whatever, I don't feel well enough to argue about it right now," Marianne sighs. "Goodnight."

And with that, Marianne closes her door, leaving you all alone once again. You're not really sure if Marianne's angry with you, but she did bother to actually say goodnight to you before closing her door so she must not be -that- miffed... but no matter, you can deal with that some other time. You have another angry friend to deal with right now, after all.

After making a pitstop in your room to drop off the stuff that you got for Elena since you're not going to be seeing her until tomorrow, you head downstairs to the floor of the castle where Karel and Emilio's rooms are. And just as you make it there, you notice Karel and Emilio standing out in the hallway... it looks like she's about to be dismissed for the night.

"I was actually looking for Karel, but then I saw you and thought I'd say hi," you say.

"No, it's fine," you shake your head. "I actually had something that I wanted to ask you about too."
"Huh?" Emilio blinks a few times. "If it's not urgent, I don't mind waiting until tomorrow," he shrugs. "Karel's been kind of grumpy all day and if you two had something important to talk about, I don't want to get in the way."

Emilio looks down at the floor for a bit, then leans in close.

"Umm... it's not about Luciana, is it?" he asks.

"...oh," Emilio breathes a sigh of relief. "That's good, I was kind of worried that Karel-"
"That I -what-?" Karel asks, glaring at him.
"N- nothing!" he laughs nervously. "...so Reinhold!" he slaps you on the shoulder. "What did you want to ask me about?"

You kind of want press this line of questioning, but you'd rather not ruin Karel's mood even more than you already have. And so, you explain the details of the trip to "Lake Vincent" for what seems like the tenth time today.

"So anyways," you continue, "pretty much everyone else is coming along so I thought that maybe you might want to too."
"Er..." Emilio glances at Karel. "...I don't really like large crowds or big events, so..."
"Most of the people who'll be there are related to you, it's not like it;ll be a formal party or anything," you say. "It's just something to do while you're here in Granache, you know? Checking out the scenery and all that."

"Eh..." Emilio turns to Karel, but she doesn't seem to be willing to help him out here. "...I guess that does sound kind of cool..."
"Great, so it's decided then!" you clap your hands together.

Defeated, Emilio slinks towards his bedroom door.

"Defeated again..." he mumbles as he opens his door. "...I'll see you guys later, alright? good night..."

Once Emilio's door is safely closed, Karel starts towards her own room.

"You came out here to bug me about that shit from this morning, right?" she says.

"So you claim," she replies.

Cursing to herself all the while, Karel walks over to her bed and takes a seat.

"So how the hell do you expect me to even do this, huH?" JKarel asks. "Just go 'oh hi mrs. super mage, impossibly strong wife of the guy who my country's entire noble class is afraid of, I know we've barely spoken more than a few words but I'm actually a girl who also has the hots for your nephew please help me?'"

Karel, this is virtually the only chance you will ever have to get someone's backing that Celestino will be influenced by. If you miss this chance you're going to regret it. I'll ease her into things though if it will make you feel better.
>>
>>35888843
Why are we talking to Ariane though?
It's not like Reinhold's particularly close to her and she's only tangentially related to the situation.

>>35888932

ehhh, not really. Technically she can tell anyone whenever she feels like it. She could tell anyone of importance in Granache and it would be similar.

... Maybe we could suggest telling Thieri? He's a breddy gud bro right?
>>
>>35888843
>[OTHER]

"Well, my sister said that my Grandma Agnes was planning on visiting soon. I can guarantee she won't spill, and I think Celestino is a bit scared of her.

I don't know how best to solve this, or who to involve. I just know that eventually this could screw you over, and having someone like Ariane or Agnes could help you a lot."
>>
>>35888944
Agnes could be an alternative since she's coming here. But we didn't know that before.

Arnaud, we have no idea how close he was to Adrien.

Gregory is the best candidate but he's intimidating as fuck.

We could suggest that Karel talk to Agnes when she come here but from a meta perspective there's nothing to say HAPPENING won't come before that. I also dislike the Agnes option because Celestino is suspecting us of using her so he won't listen to her candidly.

>>35888966
Thierri would be a good choice but, again, Reinhold doesn't know how close he was to Adrien. And Karel would never dare ask a King like that.
>>
>>35888966
When the Granache vacation is over, she's going to go back to Marconetti. That basically puts her one screw up away from Celestino finding out she snuck in under false pretenses. If she ever wants to intentionally reveal herself she'll need someone to back her story too. Remember how suspicious Celestino was of Reinhold. If she betas this out she's basically up a creek.
>>
>>35888984
I don't see how Gregory is particularly intimidating in this sense. He was pretty clear that he would have adopted Reinhold if need be. I think he would take a similar tact with Karel. The one he will make a crater of rage over is Adrien. And really, we could use that too because it makes Karel significantly more sympathetic.
>>
>>35889025
We know Gregory can be a cool guy and that he would have her back. But good luck convincing Karel of that.
>>
Did we ever even ask her if there was anyone here she felt even slightly comfortable with telling?
>>
>>35889037
Of course not. That would have been smart.
>>
>>35889037
No, but the only people less intimidating than fucking Ariane that we have right here in Granache are either teenagers, maid, or Citrine and Marius.
>>
>>35889037
I wasn't here for the thread where they voted for it, but to me Arnaud seems like a better option than Ariane in all regards.
He is more reliable, has more sway with Celestino, have a history of defending female swordsmen, and is more than capable of keeping a secret.
>>
>>35889069
>and is more than capable of keeping a secret

That's another problem. If Adrien really is Raoul, Arnaud is likely to judge Karel doesn't need to know that by some convoluted reasoning.

"God damn it," Karel mumbles. "You've backed me up against a fucking wall here."

"I just want you to know that I'll wreck your shit if this whole stupid thing backfires, you got it?" Karel says.

As she points at you, several bladed tendrils drift out from her bracelet. You're not sure if this is an automatic function or if she's doing this on purpose, but the meaning behind her words is most definitely clear.

"...I really doubt that it'll come to that," you say.
"It better not," Karel replies. "Because I mean it. Having to bind what passes for my rack is a pain in the ass, but I'm really fucking happy with my life as it is. An if I end up losing everything because of you..."

The librarian guy knows she's a girl, right? So how about asking him for advice? He always seems to have good ideas.
>>
>>35889191
It's not like we ever had to tell some difficult secret about us. Nope, we wouldn't understand.
>>

"So when do you plan on outing me to Gregory's wife?" Karel asks. "It's way too late to go over there today."
"Maybe tomorrow?" you say, shrugging. "I can always ask if it's okay to visit and if you convince Emilio to-"
"Whatever, I got it," Karel sighs. "So that's the plan."
"Pretty much."

>any last words before she inevitably kicks you out?
>>
>>35889227
Tell her they knew Adrien and what Gregory said about adopting us.
>>
>>35889227
Maybe >>35889236 could be worth mentioning. yeah.
>>
>>35889227
>>35889236
Yeah, let her know about that just in case it comes up. Which it probably should in lieu of staggered reveals.
>>
Moments like these really make me wish we went for Karel instead.

How cool would it have been to have gone on a secret date with her actually dressed up as a girl and then meeting some people and they don't recognise her.

-Sigh- the missed opportunities.
>>
>>35889236
Second that.
>>
>>35889227
Ask if she'd like to spar, hitting us with a stick should be great for her stress.
>>
>>35889294
There's always the VN I hope
>>
>>35889294
Noooo!!! Luciana best girl. We made the choice.
>>
>>35889309
Definatly, I'm eagerly awaiting that :)
>>
>>35889294
She'd be difficult as hell about that.

And Luciana is fun as it is.
>>
>>35889294
Just think about how I feel...

New Game+?
>>
>>35889294
But then we wouldn't get to do imouto stuff with her.

I mean it's not like she's lacking in screen time, the only difference is we're not giving her the D.
>>
>>35889322
I wonder what place Karel would have got in the ReinBowl had we gone back to Luciana that fateful evening.
>>
The greatest tragedy is we miss out on Gregory as a father in law.
>>
>>35889355
>and terrified that it might happen.
what for?
>>
>>35889345
Eh, with Luciana we get Nico as cousin and Karel as sister-in-law. Plus Emilio, Elena and Giancarlo.

Not too bad in my book.
>>
>>35889363
"Might Not"

My keyboard is busted and i'm dumb
>>
Taking note of Karel's visible hostility towards you, you start to make your way towards the door... but then something comes to mind.

"If it helps you feel any better," you say, "Both Ariane and Sir Gregory know your father so that should help things a bit."
"I already know that, and it doesn't," Karel replies as she slowly lifts herself off of her bed and stomps towards the bathroom.
"And, uh..." you scratch your head, "Sir Gregory said that he probably would've been willing to adopt my sister and me if Adrien had brought us here after Volker died, so I'm -really- sure that he'd have some sympathy for what you're going through."
"That's a nice story, but I'm sure that he only said that because you two are close buddies as it is," she replies.

..."close buddies?" That's not a phrase that you'd ever use to describe yourselves.

"Anyways, I'm about to take a shower now so get lost," Karel replies.
"Got it," you reply with a salute. "See you tomorrow."
"Yeah, whatever," she grumbles as she retreats into the bathroom.

>[1/?]
>>
>>35889406
She may act grumpy, but I'm sure this will end up better than anticipated if we can get around how ridiculously weird it is to request a private conversation with Ariane.
>>
>>35889448
Eh, this is Rein. It's not really any weirder than showing up one night asking for help baking a cake.

It'd be easier if we could get Ariane to find an opportunity herself.

Just let her know Karel need to tell her something important and she can find an excuse. Like, "Won't two of you boys help me do X? No, not Emilio, Guillaume, or Bernard."
>>
>>35889461
We should use that as an opener.

Then Arianne will wildly misunderstand and think we're making a direct "baking a cake" analogy rather than just comparing the relative absurdities of the situations and give Karel some very unneeded advice about the birds and the bees.

<tired>

With a long sigh, you turn back around and leave Karel to her shower. After all, you very much doubt that Luciana would appreciate you loitering in another girl's room while she bathed... even if it's a girl who she doesn't actually -know- is a girl.

After making sure that Karel's door is closed tightly behind you (don't want anyone barging in there, after all), you head back upstairs and retire to your own room for the night.

As you take off your jacket and hang it on the chair at your desk, you glance at the bag that's resting on the desk. While it kind of sucks that you weren't able to give Elena her gifts today, you'll be going over to Sir Gregory's place tomorrow and that'll be a perfect opportunity to do so.

And then an unexpected feeling of anxiety starts to fill you. You're pretty sure that everything will turn out fine, a lifetime's worth of hardship has taught you that it's never a bad thing to be cautious...

...and with that uneasy feeling slowly growing in the pit of your stomach, you place your sword at its usual resting spot before collapsing on your bed.

>>35889500
Goddamnit, Tina is channelling Over Shine now.

Ten bucks the kidnappers attack tomorrow and Karel dies.
>>
>>35889509
Nah, Ariane will just freak out and yell loud enough for everyone in the house to hear Karel's secret. Or maybe one of the boys will eavesdrop?
>>
And with that, this in-game day comes to an end. Sorry for not running longer, but I've been fighting the urge to pass out for half the day now and I really should get sonme sleep for a change. The thread was pretty fun in the end though... it's always nice to see discussion about the topic at hand.

Next thread might be Sunday night, I'm not sure yet. If not then, I have IRL stuff that'll be eating up all my time so the next time I'd be able to run is the following Wednesday.

And now I take questions.

Cheers.

I'm not sure I'll be able to follow these threads anymore due to Reasons so I just wanted to say thanks, just in case.

Red Meteor Quest
>>
>>35889525
Oh thank fuck that means I can pass out too.

Fuck Halloween, seriously, fuck this holiday so much. Fuck.

Speaking of costumes, on a scale of 1 to Master of Disguise, how unrecognizable would Karel be if she got all prettied up and dressed as a woman for once?
>>
>>35889525
Thanks for running.

I hope this turns out like the cake desicion. A completely socially retarded action, that somehow turns out a lot better than expected.
>>
>>35889525

How will the routes be split in the VN like will we have to deal with Karel's problems or will that be just for her route

>>35889548
No Anon we only got like 6 people in here as it is.
>>
>>35889554
>Speaking of costumes, on a scale of 1 to Master of Disguise, how unrecognizable would Karel be if she got all prettied up and dressed as a woman for once?
6-8. depending on whether or not she wore a wig and what type if yes.

>>35889566
>How will the routes be split in the VN like will we have to deal with Karel's problems or will that be just for her route
You'd have the option of helping Karel or ignoring her in all routes.

And now I pass the hell out. Thanks for playing!

Thanks for the thread, Arch.
First PGQ I've missed in months but it's fun to catch up on. Now it's time to discover that Ariane secretly harbours a raging hatred for reverse traps...
