A.T.B 2017, 27th of September
Area 11(Former Nation of Japan), 6:00 PM
Otsuki -Ruins of the Special Administration Zone-

Your name is Xinlu Kuu and...you’re not sure reminding yourself of your name in the middle of a firefight is the smartest thing to be doing at the moment.

Gunfire rings out up and down the previously deserted city block as the sound of heavy anti-armor rifles and rocket propelled grenades fill the air, only to be drowned out by the impacts and explosions followed immediately afterwards. As dust is thrown into the air and visibility drops you keep your Sutherland pressed safely against the side of what appears to be an old apartment complex, coilgun raised and eyes scouring your screen to figure out where the attacks could be coming from.

You had been told that the ruins of the Special Administrative Zone of Japan in Otsuki would be a possible ambush point and you had tried to ready yourself for anything. However you were expecting a couple disgruntled Elevens with outdated anti-armor rifles or a tank, not a friggin Knightmare built around a cannon!

It’s tempting to move to the corner and peek around to see if the Cannon Burai is still at the end of the street, but seeing what it did to the trailer you don’t want to risk getting shot through the wall.

The burning, blasted remains of the Knightmare trailer lies in the center of the 4 way intersection to your left, everything from the bumper up blasted away by whatever kind of cannon the odd Burai has.

Beyond the ruins of the trailer on the other side of the street is the banged up APC that was assisting with the escort, which appears to be under fire from anti-armor rifles somewhere on the roof tops, possibly from your side of the street given the angle of the attacks.

The APC is tucked up against an old grocery store for cover and blindly fires at the rooftops above you with it’s autocannon, not moving an inch. It could easily back up down the street it’s on and turn a corner to escape the line of sight of the riflemen entirely, yet it doesn't. Could the APC be disabled or stuck? Is the driver dead?

You can’t see up or down the road from where your Knightmare is positioned, but considering it’s the direction you were coming when you came here it’s not hard to figure out that your surviving comrades and the hopefully still intact buses are down the road to the south.

Contacting them is the first thing you try, but your radio produces nothing but ear stinging static. It's not damaged so there's ether heavy interference from something or it's outright being jammed. As the APC continues to come under attack you think over your options and try to formulate a plan.

Staying out of cover our lingering out in the middle of the street is tantamount to suicide considering the range and power of the Burai with the cannon. You could try to go down the street you're currently on and circle around it, but you run the risk of getting ambushed by any other forces they could have in the area.

Alternatively you could just focus on dealing with the infantry in the area and try to join up with the others before you plan anything serious.

Or you could just rush out into the street and try to bum rush the Burai before it can get off a shot. You don't know the distance between you and the Burai, but you caught a glance before and it seemed fairly far, a good 100 meters or so.

Your Factsphere is perfectly operational and you could do a scan of the area for a bit of power.

>(2/3)
>>
>>35895399
Looking at your energy meter you see you only have 50 minutes of power remaining and with the Knightmare trailer a pile of burning scrap you don't think you'll be getting a recharge any time soon. It's a descent amount of power, but if this battle runs too long or your push your Knightmare too hard you may very well run out of power in the middle of the fight, and with infantry crawling all over the roof tops you'd be in serious trouble even if you bailed out of your Knightmare.

Looking over your available weapons you decide on a course of action.

>Go down the street you're on and try to circle around to attack and take the cannon Burai by surprise

>Focus on dealing with the infantry and joining up with the others.

>Rush the Burai cannon and try to destroy it before it can get off a shot!

>Use your Factsphere to scan the area for enemy locations and anything unusual (High Power consumption)

>Go down the street you're on and try to circle around to attack and take the cannon Burai by surprise

Going straight at the Burai is just going to get you killed and as much as you want to help the others, you can help them much more by making this situation a lot less dangerous by eliminating the Cannon Burai as quickly as possible. It appears to be the only Knightmare they have and while it's definitely powerful, it's still just one Knightmare and once it's goneyou'll just be dealing with pettily RPGs and anti-armor rifles.

Taking a quick glance around to make sure you're not being watched from the rooftops, you pull yourself away from the concrete safety that the old apartment complex has provided and begin speeding down the street, moving as fast but 'quietly' as you can. Your eyes never leave the rooftops and you ready yourself for another ambush, praying that there aren't more Knightmares in the area.

"This should be easy, all I need to do is turn two corners and I'll be able to-" You take your eyes off the rooftops for just a moment and glance at the road in front of you, fearful you'll miss your turn. Instead your heart leaps in your chest when you spy dozens of dull metallic circles scatter across the road mere feet ahead of you. They were painted over in black so you didn't spot them against the black asphalt until you were this close to them.

Mines.

Your hands yank back on the controls and you try to come to a stop...

You reverse your Landspinners and throw sparks as you crouch your Sutherland, slamming it's free hand into the asphalt and bringing yourself to a sudden stop a literal foot away from the nearest mine. Being so close to them now you can see that the whole road in front of you is littered with them and though they're fairly small, the sheer number of them would have wrecked your landspinners had you hit them.

Heart pounding in your chest you breath out a sigh of relief and begin thinking of a way around these mines. You could use your Slash Harkens to climb up onto the roofs and just avoid the roads entirely, but you'd risk being spotted by the infantry that could be up there. Alternatively you could just use your coilgun to shoot the mines and clear the road, but it'd probably take a bit of ammo and would probably draw infantry towards you.

You could also just turn back around and return to the main intersection.

What do you wish to do Shirley, er I mean Kuu?

>Use the Slash Harkens to climb onto roofs and travel across them to get to the Burai. (Low power consumption)

>Use coilgun to clear the road of mines and continue on towards the Burai (Moderate power consumption, 300 rounds in 57mm coilgun, 2 reloads left)

>Use the Slash Harkens to climb onto roofs and travel across them to get to the Burai. (Low power consumption)

It'd be easy to destroy the mines, hell you could probably do it just by breaking off chunks from the surrounding buildings and lobbing them into the field. However that would take time and gain you unwanted attention, so you decide to climb onto the nearest roof top using your Sutherland's slash harkens.

Climbing up is an easy task, well at least when you're not being shot at or yelled at by instructors. You manage to scale the building in your Sutherland without a problem, making it to the top of an old parking garage in a matter of seconds. A glance around doesn't reveal any soldiers, but you keep your eyes peeled as you make your way across the roof tops, hopping or using your Harkens to get across large gaps.

It's not as fast as moving across the ground, but apparently no one thought of putting landmines on the roof tops, so the journey is a safe, if paranoid one. Eventually you make your way back to the main street, standing atop a rooftop overlooking the run down garage where the Burai Cannon had been previously.

You spy it's barrel sticking out of the front of the garage, but can't see the rest of it from this angle. A sudden electric crackling fills the air before the cannon fires with a tremendous BANG, firing a shot down the road at something, a distant explosion denoting it hit something successfully.

Gritting your teeth you steel yourself for the engagement and glance down at your energy meter, finding you have 42 minutes of power left.

>Leap down and attack it with your Lance, with that cannon on it's chest it's unlike it's anny good in melee! (High Power Consumption)

>Demolish the building with your coilgun's grenades and force it out into the open! (Moderate power consumption)

Considering your limited power you put away your Coilgun and throw your heavy lance over the roof's edge, before flipping up your and throwing your Sutherland over the edge. Your thumbs dig into the controls as you rev your Landspinners, hitting the ground and immediately burning rubber the moment your landspinners hit the pavement.

The Cannon Burai jerks it's head towards you in surprise as you surge towards it, your Sutherland's arms raised to attack...

Launching forward you smash your Tonfa's into the Burai's cannon in the hopes of knocking it backwards, but the Burai doesn't so much as budge from your hit! You begin wailing on the barrel and trying to stagger the machine, but all you do is make a couple dents in the thick cannon before the Burai raise's a coilgun and fires at you, forcing you to pull away and swerve to the side.

At first you're confused, even something with heavy armor should have been at least been pushed back by your blows, unless it was so heavy it wasn't able to move on it's own. Your questions answer themselves as you hear a loud metal popping noise and see two steel pile drivers attached to the sides of the Burai's legs pull up out of the concrete. It must have locked itself down to fire! That's why you couldn't knock it back!

Staying inside the garage the Burai fires at you with it's coilgun, the same model you have only older looking and tarnished. It keep's it's chest trained towards you as the barrel begins to faintly glow.

"Shit, that thing can use the cannon at close range too? Did it just lock itself down to steady it's shots?"

Your mind races and you realize you have to take care of the Burai before it's cannon can full charge itself to fire! However the Burai seems to be pretty well armored and you're not sure your Tonfas will be able to do more then knock it over.

What will you do?

>Make a grab for your Lance and attack with that! That thing will bust through this Burai's armor like paper! (High Power consumption)

>Continue attacking with your Tonfas! (Moderate Power Consumption)

>Pull out your Coilgun and try to fire a grenade down it's cannon barrel! (Moderat Power Consumption, very high difficulty)

>Use the electric shock on the tonfas to fry the pilot inside

As you race to think of a quick way to finish off the enemy, you suddenly remember one of the armaments you had almost all but forgot about. The Stunguns! You didn't use them a whole lot in training but that's because they weren't all that complex and hard to practice with safely. If you charged them up and hit a Knightmare with them you would ether short out their power systems or fry the pilot with a powerful electric surge. You glance at your power meter and grimace, but see the barrel of the Burai's cannon is only starting to glow brighter and brighter.

Flipping back your Tonfas you make it seem like you're rushing forward your lance before feinting and lunging towards the Burai before it can reaim it's coilgun. You deploy the Stunguns and they charge almost immediately, causing your energy meter to plummet as you throw out out a punch towards the Burai...

The Burai throws it's arms out to try and knock your punch away from hitting it's chest, and while it succeeds you wind up making contact with one of it's arms in it's desperate flail. Sparks immediately fly as the powerful electric current that was build up in the Stungun rushes up the Burai's arm and into the torso. The camera lens in it's head burst outwards and smoke plumes from the vents in it's back.

You pull back and flip your Tonfa's back out in case the attack didn't have the desired effect, but the Burai's legs and arms shake wildly before causing the rebel machine to collapse onto it's back. Smoke continues to pour out of the machine and you can swear you can smell the burning wires and circuitry even inside your enclosed cockpit. After remaining unmoving for several moment you assume the machine has been disabled, but you're not so confident that the pilot is dead.

Looking down the street you hear nothing but worrying silence and the occasional distant gunshot, filling you with nothing but worry. Turning back to the downed machine you decide on what to do.

>Crush the cockpit and kill the pilot, no sense in taking any chances.

>Force the cockpit open and restrain the pilot if he's a live, he might be a useful source of information later.

>Crush the cockpit and kill the pilot, no sense in taking any chances.

Walking forward you kick the Burai onto it's side and raise your Sutherland's foot, placing it against the cockpit. With a grin you push all your Sutherland's weight down onto the cockpit and while giving a bit of resistance at first, the cockpit eventually caves in with an audible snapping sound. Blood trickles out of the flattened cockpit and you can't help but laugh.

This is just a taste of what's to come!

You turn around the leave the pilotless Burai in the garage, making your way back to the intersection you'd been at previously. Without the Cannon to worry about you're able to move freely and are finally able to see down the road with relative ease. What you see is not a pretty sight.

Two of the three buses you were escorting have been destroyed, blown up and set ablaze with no signs of survivors in the orange infernos. There's no sign of the third bus, so it's entirely possible it escaped, but you discover the APC was destroyed in your absence.

There's no sign of the others and it's eerily quiet. You scan the rooftops, but see no one. Did the others leave the area with the other bus once they realized they couldn't get in touch with you? Did they think you were dead? Or are they somewhere else in the area?

Searching the area would be dangerous with all the mines and infantry around. But if you leave the area without checking, you could be unintionally be abandoning your comrades to die.

With only 29 minutes of power left you're forced to decide.

(For clarification Energy Fillers are basically Sakuradite Batteries that supply power for Yggdrasil Drive to step up.It's hard to tell. Ether way they can be damaged and normally require a second Knightmare or field crew to replace. More advanced Knightmares can replace their own Energy Fillers in the field provided they have them, but the Sutherland can't as it'll lose power once it removes it's old Energy Filler. From what I guess the Lancelot has a delay before it loses power once it's Energy Filler is removed)

It's risky, but even if you're left with just 10 minutes of power you're confident you can outrun the rebels and make it to the outer limits of the Zone safely. With lance in hand and coilgun at the ready, you begin to move through the ghostly streets of Otsuki in search of your comrades.

Keeping an eye on the roads, rooftops, and behind you is difficult and tasking on your nerves, but you remain vigilant and ready for any further attacks. After traveling through the streets for about five minutes you see a hint of purple down the road, standing out amongst the grey and white of the surrounding buildings like a flare.

Rolling towards the purple you see it's a fallen Sutherland, it's legs and landspinners damaged from some kind of explosive damage, ether landmines or RPGs. It's cockpit is intact but it's not moving and it doesn't appear to have crashed recently, otherwise you'd have heard the explosion.

It's hard to tell who's Sutherland it is, Scott's? Rick's? Bill's? Everyone's Sutherlands looked the same. It's unlikely it was one of the other soldier's Sutherlands as the trailer was blown away before they could leave, but...

You come to a stop, hesitant to approach the Knightmare...

Something's not right, even considering the Sutherland's damage it should have enough power to open the cockpit or use the speakers to call out for help. In your concern and your desire to save energy, you activate the Sutherland's external speakers and shout out to the pilot, hoping for some kind, any kind of responce.

"Hey! Are you awake in there? Bill? Scott? Rick? Is that you? If you're awake or have power respond or get the hell out of there! We don't have time to hang out around here!"

The silence is so thick you can literally hear the wind blowing. Your eyes look up and down the roads, trailing over the rooftops in search of enemy soldiers aiming their weapons down at you. However there's nothing, nothing but a near deafening silence. Then, suddenly, you hear the soft but unpleasant grinding of metal on asphalt as the fallen Sutherland shifts it's arm across the pavement just a little.

This movement is brief but makes you raise your coilgun in surprise, training it on the fallen Knightmare frame and waiting for any other movements. Someone's inside of it, but if they are they're ether unconscious or they can't use the controls properly ether from some kind of damage or...restraint. The idea of one of your comrades tied up in their cockpit and strapped with bombs makes your stomach churn.

With 28 minutes of power left in your Energy Filler, you think on what to do...

>Leave and search for help outside of the Zone.
>Approach the Knightmare for a better look.
>Activate your Factpshere to get more information at a safe distance (High Energy Consumption)

>>
>>35899117
>by the way, how much power does High Energy Consumption take?

It depends on the Knightmare, but for the Sutherland High Consumption usually amounts to 3 to 5 minutes of time. Considering your using the Factsphere while not moving it's 3 minutes.
>>
>>35899164
>>35899068
In that case

With terrible thoughts brewing in your mind you decide to bite the nail and activate your Factpshere to alleviate your fears.

However all you do is confirm them.

Inside the cockpit is a heat signature, one that could only be produced by a person, especially considering that it's moving around. You can't see through the walls of the cockpit, but if you had the guest the pilot's been restrained and is unable to get to the controls of the Knightmare.

You also see what could only be explosives cleverly planted on the chest of the Knightmare. You're not very familiar with bombs and explosives so you don't know what kind they are, but if you had to take a guess it's probably enough to destroy the Sutherland and anything that gets close to it.

A pit forms in your stomach when you see heat signatures on the rooftops on ether side of you. There's seven of them, and while you can't see them with the camera as they're hiding farther back, there's no doubt in your mind that they're soldiers.

One of them is probably watching to see if you'll get close, detonator in hand to kill you and whoever's unfortunate enough to be inside that cockpit. You can't get close without them killing the pilot and you can't start attacking them without them setting off the detonator!

Your mind begins to race as you try to find a solution. You remember back to basic training about how the ejection system will automatically launch the cockpit if it believes the pilot is in danger, but that's only if the Knightmare is disabled in a certain way or damaged enough. If you could hit the Sutherland jussssst right you could cause the cockpit to eject and fly off to safety. The landing would probably hurt like hell, but it's better then being turned into giblets.

>(1/2)
>>
>>35899397
Alternatively you could take a gamble and try to take out both groups hiding on the rooftops with your grenades. If you can kill the one holding the detonator, then you should be able to rescue the pilot without any problems. You're no explosive expert but a proximity trigger seems too complex for something so short notice. But you could be wrong.

You could also walk away or just kill the pilot yourself, deny the Elevens the satisfaction of killing one of your comrades themselves.

What will you do?

>Kill the soldiers hiding the buildings with grenades (Moderate Power, risky)

You stare grimly at the fallen Sutherland and deactivate your factsphere. You know what you need to do to save them, if you can hit them in the right spot with one of your Slash Harkens you can force their cockpit to eject. But if you don't hit the right spot or end up hitting their cockpit...

Swallowing your fear you decide to put faith in your own abilities and decide to take the risk. Rolling a little ways forward you come to a stop , take aim, and fire one of your Slash Harkens towards the Sutherland...

You can almost hear the hidden Eleven soldiers jumping up in surprise as you fire one of your Slash Harkens at your fallen comrade. For a brief moment you're certain the harken is going to hit the cockpit and are almost on the verge of tears when it hits and nothing happens. However your ears are filled with the sudden, almost joyous ignition of rockets as the cockpit blasts away and leaves the Sutherland an empty shell.

The Sutherland explodes immediately afterward, destroying the Slash Harken you used, but you could care less. With a smile you wheel around and fire grenades into the buildings where the soldiers were hidden, listening to their shocked screams as they're blasted into utter oblivion.

Practically giddy with relief you peel off to find the cockpit, finding it lodged in the side of a run down shoe store. Pulling the cockpit out you check to make sure it's free of explosives before ripping it open and pulling out the pilot. Rick Astley looks up at you with shock and surprise on his face, shouting and coughing through the ball gag in his mouth as he struggles against the ropes tying him to his seat.

Climbing out of your cockpit you quickly cut his bonds and set him free, hoping back inside and picking him up in your Sutherland's free hand before you can hear his cries of thanks.

>You have saved Rick Astley's life. He will remember this

With your remaining power you leave the ruins of the Zone you manage to make contact with Scott and Bill once the interference clears up. You manage to get to a civilian gas station a mile or so from Otsuki, your Sutherland losing power just a couple feet from your destination.

Climbing down and hopping out you're relieve to see one of the buses survived and is parked next to the gas station. It seems to be the one that was carrying the dead and wounded, but before you can think on the possible irony of that particular bus surviving, you feel someone's hands on your shoulders.

Before you can turn around you're spun around and Rick pulls you into a kiss. This alone is surprising and makes your already heavily beating heart thunder even faster. The kiss isn't particularly pleasant and for some reason Rick's mouth tastes of sweat, rubber, and...peanut butter?

Your face goes red with surprise, but you quickly come to your senses and push Rick away, slapping him hard across the face with all your might before wiping your mouth on your sleeve. His sunglasses are thrown from his face and you realize this is the first time you've actually seen his eyes.

"Gah! What the hell! I'm just trying to show my appreciation for you saving my life!" Rick says, more surprised then upset, covering his chocolate brown eyes as he fumbles for his shades, as if he couldn't live with out them.

"Do you suck the face of everyone who helps you out? Besides I'm technically your superior and a hug would have been just as fine!" You say sternly, though thinking on it hard enough you remember plenty of 'hugs' from Milly Ashford that got somewhat...gropey. Your face remains red as you realize that Rick just kissed you and that's the only kiss you can remember having with another boy.

>Rick Astley stole your first kiss! You think???

"Yeah, yeah I'm sorry." He says with a sheepish grin as he slips his shades back on and straightens himself. "But seriously, thanks for saving my ass. When I ran into those mines and those Elevens cornered me I thought I was as good as dead. But when they tied me up and started strapping bombs to my Sutherland, I was practically on the verge of pissing myself."

"It's nothing Rick, I couldn't have just left you there." You say with a frown, the taste of peanut butter still in your mouth.

"Yeah you could have and you've already saved my ass once before. So now I owe you more then ever, if you ever need anything, just ask!" Rick, possibly fearful of another slap, runs off towards the gas station and leaves you to your thoughts.

Walking over to Bill you find him fiddling with the radio with Scott lying on the ground with an ice pack on his face.

Bill looks up and grins, Scott does the same but it's hard to tell with all his missing teeth.

"I'm glad to see you're alright Kuu. I was worried that you'd gotten killed once we were separated, but after I realized the cannon was gone I was sure you were alive. What happened with Rick?" Bill asks, noticing Rick walk past with a huge red mark on his face.

"He did something stupid, no he did two stupid things. The elevens caught him, tied him up in his cockpit, and strapped bombs to his Knightmare. If I had approached him I probably would have died with him. I managed to set off his cockpit ejection system but I nearly killed him."

"Well he would have been dead anyway if those bombs went off, you did the right thing." Bill says, Scott giving you a thumps up before setting the ice bag back onto his face/mouth.

"What happened to Scott?"

"Oh, his Knightmare got disabled and some Eleven ran up and cracked him across the mouth with a table leg." Bill says with a shrug.

"Wait, what? A table leg? Didn't they all have guns and rocket launchers? Scott got attacked by the one guy there with a table leg?"

Scott just lets out a groan of embarrassment, but Bill just shrugs again and smiles. "I consider it good luck, if it'd been anything else he'd have been dead. Besides modern dentistry is pretty amazing."

Bill informs you that transports will arrive to pick everyone up in about an hour or so, with troops headed towards the ruins of the zone to mop up any remaining resistance. There's no chance you'll be ambushed on the way to the capital by air, but you still feel paranoid.

You go into the gas station with the intent of getting a snack. Going to the back you find the freezers can get yourself an ice cream bar which the gas station clerk lets you take for free, seeing all the other soldiers helped themselves to the snacks.

Eating your ice cream you board the bus and check on the wounded, particularly Dennzel. The wounded don't seem anymore hurt then they did when they were brought on board and the dead bodied are, well, still very much dead.

Surprisingly when you go over to check on Dennzel you find him not only awake, but his head bandaged as well. He's got short, scruffy blond hair, a young face, and refreshing blue eyes. The young guy coughs and hacks, his chest, arms, and legs still heavily bandaged.

You're about ready to leave when he sees.

"Wait, aren't you one of the survivors of the simulation?" He asks, staring at you with a hard but curious gaze.

You turn around and nod honestly. "Yes I am."

"Were you the one who saved me? Or rather, saved everyone?" He asks again and you hesitate.

"Well I wouldn't say I saved everyone, but I tried my best to help save as many as I could."

Dennzel stares at you in silence before asking. "I'm afraid I never learned your name, what are you called?"

"Me? My name is Xinlu Kuu." You state firmly.

"Really? Are you a Britannian or an Honorary Britannian?" He asked, giving you a quizzical look at the foreignness of your name.

"Yes, I just have a...unique name." You say with a shrug.

"I see. It pains me to say this but I owe you a debt of gratitude, but I'm happy to see the person who saved me is a proper, truthful Britannian. I don't think I could have lived down the shame of being saved by a filthy Honorary. I'll try to recover as fast as I can and repay this debt to you, if I can..." Dennzel sets his head down on his pillows and breaths a sigh of relief, smiling and closing his eyes.

After realizing he had fallen asleep you decide to leave. You enjoy the rest of your ice cream and board the transport VTOLs with everyone else once they set down a little way's from the gas station. It's rather relaxing traveling by air , even though you know very well you could be just as easily shot down as you could ambushed, but you're just happy to know that Knightmares can't get you up here.

The ride takes only an hour and by the time you arrive at the base the sun is beginning to set down, casting an a dying orange color over everything. As you exit the transport, you can't help but think on the fact that the base your at isn't all that far away from Ashford Academy, at least compared to the other military base...

You try not to think on that and just dead to the debriefing. After spending another hour filling out reports and answering questions you're able to go to the barracks to catch some sleep.

What do you wish to do?

>Go straight to sleep.

You decide to write a diary entry, after all if you don't get into a habit of it you'll never do it enough for it to matter. You're tired, but far more awake and energized then you were after the attack on the base.

Your diary entry is fairly descent, you put down everything in a good amount of detail and even manage to vent your annoyance at Rick kissing you with his gag/peanut-butter tasting mouth. Closing the diary you slip it back into your belongings and go to bed.

The next morning seems like it's going to be uneventful, until your stopped in the cafeteria by a man in an orange uniform.

"Excuse me, are you Private First Class Xinlu Kuu?"

"Yeah that's me. Are you with the Special Corp?" You ask, noting the oddly colored uniform.

"I am! I was sent here by my boss, after hearing about your recent success down at the special zone he'd like you to join the Special Corp as a test pilot!" The man hands over a folder to you filled to the brim with papers.

"All you need to do is fill out the necessary paperwork and you can transfer over from the regular military to the Advanced Special Envoy Engineering Corp. You don't have too, but bare in mind that not many people get a chance to join the Special Corp and we offer some unique benefits to our members. We may be an irregular unit, but our other test pilot has gotten plenty of fame from his exploits!"

You look down at the files and think hard about what you want to do. If you join the Special Corp, you might have more opportunities to learn more about Zero and could very well get a chance to face him yourself one day. On the other hand you'd have to leave Scott, Rick, and Bill behind. Though you did want to leave them out of your plans for revenge...

What do you wish to do?

I hope we get to be the control group. No special snowflake unit, no special snowflake weapons, just skill and vrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Maybe we'll even get to make Kallen extra mad if we out-pilot her in a Glasgow.

You'll be leaving behind your comrades...but that's for the best. Their lives will be better without you dragging them into your problems. Besides you could always get their contact information, who doesn't own a cellphone these days?

Smiling you nod to the man. "I'd love to join, though I think it'll take me a while to get through all this paperwork..."

"Yeah it usually does. I'll be by tomorrow to collect the paper work or help you through if it you're not done. My boss will be pretty pleased to here we have a new pilot!"

Walking away with a chipper expression on his face the man in the orange uniform leaves and you grab your lunch and sit down at the table with Rick, Scott, and Bill.

"What did that guy want?" Bill asks, watching Scott suck some jello through gaps where his missing teeth are.

"He offered me to join the Special Corp and I accepted." You say, raising the paper work packet.

"Really?" Rick says with a frown. "I heard the guy in charge of it is a total wacko. Before he got that Eleven guy he went through like 12 different test pilots."

"Butt shell get ta polot cool fames!" Scott points out, struggling to speak properly with his missing teeth.

"Jeez man you need to see the dentist soon. But Scott has a point" Bill points out. "As an irregular unit that handles a lot of experimental tech, Kuu here will get the chance to test pilot and help to develop the next generation of Knightmare Frames. That might not seem like much to most soldiers, but you'd be amazed what a proper test pilot is worth to R&D groups and manufacturers. Even if you choose to quit the military, a few months of successful test piloting a seventh generation Knightmare would look amazing on a resume."

"So you guys are fine with me leaving?" You ask.

"You've saved my ass twice, I'm not really in a position to complain here. While I'll always be thankful for that, you shouldn't feel you have to stick with us just to ensure we don't die." Rick states, seeming a tad upset.

"Besides, the Special Corp is a good unit despite all the odd rumors and their use of an Honorary Britiannian pilot. You're a good pilot, I think you'll be of more use in the Special Corp then in the babysitting one. Besides with you gone I'll just look that much better." Bill smiles and laughs jovially.

"Yush. Yal git to polot somthing awsome!" Scott exclaims, before frowning, realizing speaking with missing teeth makes him sound like he got shot in the head. He pulls out a marker and writes down on a napkin 'Fuck yes. Join the special corp, you deserve to do something cool with your life.'

You smile and nod your head. "Well just because I'm leaving doesn't mean we have to cut all ties. You guys have cellphones and emails right?"

"Are you asking me for my cellphone number?" Rick asks with a bemused grin, causing you to shoot him a look and make him raise his hands in defense, anticipating another slap.

You get the numbers and emails from your comrades and fill out the paperwork in between your duties on base.

Is there anything you wish to do today? Or will you let it pass uneventfully?

You check the news but otherwise just rest up as best you can. On television everyone seems to be calm, a bit too calm. There's a reassurance that everything is fine and stable in Area 11 about every ten minutes or so making it clear that even the censors or worried about Zero's return. Online it's not hard to find sites and forums exploding with people terrified over what's going to happen.

However you don't let any of that worry you, in fact you use it to excite and encourage yourself to do the best you can in the Special Corp. After writing down a rather boring diary entry for a boring day you go to bed and wake up the next morning to greet the Special Corp member.

You hand over your paperwork, say goodbye to your friends, and leave with the orange uniformed man to your new place of work. At first you think you’re heading away from the settlement to some far off base, but to your confusion you find you’re being driven deeper into the settlement.

“Excuse me, if you don’t mind me asking, but where are we headed?”

“Hmmm? Oh the Viceroy’s Palace.” The man says nonchalantly.

“W-what!? Why are we going there?”

“Well there aren’t many areas with a place big enough to land where we operate from.” The man states, confusing you further.

The car arrives at the entrance to the Viceroy’s palace and after going through a mess of security precautions the orange uniformed man drives you down an airfield where you see something sitting off to the side of the massive runway.

A ship.

Not a sea ship or a blimp but a ship, a floating pearly white ship the likes you’ve never seen before. It makes your jaw drop just seeing it and for a moment you’re convinced it’s not real, right up until the man drives the car up to it and boards a lift that takes you all the way up and into the ship.

“I’ll get my boss so you can meet him. In the mean time why don’t you drop off your stuff. We have some temporary quarters here on board.” The man gives you some directions and you follow them, your head filled with feelings of sucess.

You find your way to an empty room and plop your bag onto the small bed when you realize you’re not wearing your sunglasses. Reaching into your back pocket you slip them on when a voice speaks out from behind you.

“Who are you?"

You spin around and come face to face with an almost painfully familiar face...

"Or maybe I should ask, who do you think you are?"

(And this is where I'll end things tonight.)
