A flowing river of wishes envelop your ethereal being. Though you can't physically feel anything, the Wish Current is warm, filled with love, hate, lust, passion, indifference. Maintained by the Goddess of Hope, Mana, the Wish Current is alive and well. There is nothing to see but much to be heard. The Current is but a babbling brook of human emotion.

Wishes of desperate humans pierce your very soul. Thoughts of ambition, thoughts of greed. These thoughts overwhelm you, struggling to be free of the Current. You soothe such wishes, tempering the thoughts with your soul's energy. After much coaxing, such wishes return to the Flow, renewed with spiritual strength.

Those are the last wishes you need to take care of. You are ready to leave.

A gentle hand guides you towards the plane of the living. And off you go.

Into the brave, new frontier.

In the distance is a bright blue world, shining in activity and life. Such a warm place... you can't help but be drawn into such a wonderful planet.

You wish to cherish everything, to endow wonderful gifts of prosperity to all. If only you could. It's too much for your capabilities. For now, you'll start out small. As a newly christened Deity, you've little power to spare.

The descent into the realm of the living is a tricky one. Your ethereal shape has no bearing here, but you can still hear the waves of the ocean, the complaints muttered under many a worker's breath, and the boisterous laughs of children frolicking. You arrive at your destination.

It is...

>Avalon, a bustling state with a variety of cultures and ideas. It revolves around the principle of free market trade, where merchants and small household business alike thrive. However, the city-state's sudden boom of economic prosperity spurred tension between the various social classes as well as increasing crime rates from various trade routes. Avalon's people are a melting pot of different ethnicities. There's a church for you to claim.

>Lymarck, a self-sufficient village with enough resources to feed its residents but not much more. The place lies in between a disputed area of two different city-states, both wanting to claim the village for land leverage. Lymarck's people are bound by their love for their community. No exports/imports. Conveniently, there's a deserted, rickety shrine for any god to claim.

>Ffion Isles, an isolated sky island with many different villages united under a single flag. Its fertile, but mostly unused, land make the island a desirable asset for city-states, provided they have the ability to reach it. There is already an established religion, though public opinion expresses silent discontent towards its practice. No exports/imports. There's no shrine, but a one-story house is the next best thing.

The clouds gently drift by, dancing in the sky. They're so close you can almost touch them. Fascinating. You took a look around. There's a lot of blue.

...Blue?

Puzzled by this, you take a glance over the place one more time. You're in a village of some sort. A few buildings are scattered over the vicinity. But past the village is pure sky and a severe lack of land. Odd. You absentmindedly move forward to check it out.

Below the land is... water! What a wonderful venue – an island in the sky. You should celebrate your success in coming to such a place! You wave to the nearest human, but they pass you by, paying you no mind.

Oh, of course. You currently have no physical form. That's too bad. But! You can conjure up a physical manifestation of yourself! Probably! You don't have much power left, but you can spend the last of it creating a form to interact in the physical world. So you do! No regrets.

Materialization in progress. Black hair and brown eyes are suitable. You also give yourself a simple robe-and-cloak. It seems that humans have a need to wear clothes.

You’re almost done.

>Allocate 7 points into the respective proficiencies below.

>Magics – 0
Your ability to control the elements, as well as proficiency with spells and magically imbued attacks, not including magic used via Belief Points. It also decides your limit on how often and how much you can cast spells before it mentally exhausts you.

>Wish Intuition – 0
Your ability to perceive and gather the wishes of humans. The more you allocate into this proficiencies, the more likely it is that you find a Wish encounter. You also gain a passive ability to read the emotions of humans better.

>Combat Ability – 0
How adept you are in physical combat. It also includes your physical prowess, which includes your strength not including any benefits from using Belief Points.

>Influence – 0
Your influence over people. Your proficiency in Influence will affect how easily you can acquisition Belief Points. It also plays a factor in voluntary conversion to your belief and passive follower gain in your area.

Proficiencies influence certain decisions in the quest. A note to consider: proficiencies with little skill points will detriment situations where certain rolls are involved but not completely ruin them (unless you always roll like shit). Having a proficiency at 0 won't mean you'll fail every single roll, but you'll have some trouble landing huge success rolls.

Belief System
>Every new thread after this one, you will gain (+5) BP naturally.
>There are various methods to gain BP, but the most obvious methods are through Wishes, Influence actions, or voluntary conversions.
>Currently, you have a cap at 50 BP. You cannot exceed this limit as of now. However, at the cap, you are able to spend your points for a Divine Miracle, a much more potent Miracle. The remainder is re-added back to your BP pool. Miracle potency is also affected by your Miracle stat (which is innate and progresses during the plot).

Loading... loading... complete! You enter into the physical realm with a bang! Apparently, too much of a bang. The debris from your materialization fly off and explode the closest building. You blew up a nearby house. Complete failure.

That... could have gone a lot better.

“…Hey,” a wistful voice echoes from behind you. “You destroyed my house.”

As you turn around, you’re greeted by the sight of a human. A human girl, to be specific. She’s in a flowing dress, fitted with a sash. Wavy, dark brown hair falls from her shoulders, contrasting the light brown in her eyes. And she looks understandably upset – you had no right to blow anything up.

“Err, umm... I’m sorry. I’m still getting used to this.” You bow to her, because that’s what humans do… probably. Either that or lie to save face, but you’re assuming that humans won’t like it if you do the latter.

Her exhausted stare speaks volumes, but she offhandedly waves the matter away. “Right, right. Not like it matters. My luck is as horrible as ever. It'd be nice if the deity were here to save the day. But they will never show up at this point. It’s been generations! But oh weeeeell. What's one less house, right? I’m sure they won’t notice… because they’re never here.”

Intriguing! A deity, she says. “Miss, I’m sure they’ll show up incredibly soon!”

“No, they won’t,” she laments. “Trust me, I would know. I’m the vassal of the god. Descendant of the holy shrine maidens, all that good stuff. I'd notice. It’d be pretty obvious if a god were here.”

“Oh. What a shame.” You're pretty sure you're a deity or god or whatever they call it nowadays. Maybe you should let her know. “Ah, right! I’m a god, by the way.”

She blinks, not saying anything for a while. Suddenly staggering back, the girl wobbles around to reclaim her footing. “…I’m sorry, I didn't quite catch that,” she mutters, rubbing her temples. “What did you say?”

Well, maybe outright telling her isn’t enough to prove your point.

“Here, watch!”

You call the Wish Current, invocating your divine powers. A flow of spirits guide your soul. The world grows dark and you can only see the stream of human hopes. But in here, it's less of a stream and more of a trickle. There must not be much faith in the area. You'd have a better time if you weren't newly materialized. Your divine energy reserves are low.

But you wouldn't be much of a god if you couldn't rectify your own mishap! An orb of white light emerges from your hands, its divine power causing the ground to stir slightly. A billowing wind spins outwards from the light, directing you to the wrecked house. It knows. You know. You let the orb of light do as it pleases.

It zips through the air, soundlessly veiling the entire building in a ray of light. The intensity of the brightness blurs the house out of human vision, distorting its features. When the light clears, the house is back to normal. Perfectly normal. You considered repainting the exterior, but that would expend more divine energy than you currently possess.

“There we go!” You salute the girl. “I hope that luck shines your way soon!”

The girl restrains a sniffle, tears brimming in her eyes. “...Please forgive me, oh great deity.” Prostrating herself, she lowers her head completely to you. “As a lowly vassal, it's more than an honor meeting you.”

Uh. Errrm. “You don't have to do that. 'Twas my fault anyway, destroying your house like that.”

She nods, head still on the floor. You offer her a hand. The girl hesitates, as if unsure whether to take it or not. In the midst of her hesitation, you grab her hand and pull her up anyway.

“So! What's your name, vassalette?”

“My name is Sandra Eire. I am the Twenty-and-Second Vassal of Eire.” She slightly lowers her gaze, not quite matching yours. “And yours, great deity?”

Uh.

“I'm Vala.” You decide to make it up on the spot. Because why not? It's frivolous, it's careless, and it's absolutely fun!

“A pleasure being in your presence, great Vala.”

“Hmm.” Is she always going to be this formal? You look straight at her, pouting a bit. “Naturally as a vassal, you are to obey my rules, right?”

She nods her head, bowing slightly. She can't seem to decide between lowering her head and looking at you.

“Great. Then my first order is to stop talking like that!”

Sandra tilts her head questioningly. “Um, 'like that'?”

“Yes, like I'm a god or something! Never mind that I actually am a god... anyway. I'm here to serve you and this island, not the other way around. Therefore, you cannot address me as 'great' or 'revered' or anything else similar. This is an ultimatum for being your deity.”

“...A-Alright,” she relents. Fidgeting, Sandra can't help but be red with embarrassment. “This goes against everything I've been taught.”

“Well, I'm your god now. Whoever gives you a hard time can answer to me, yeah?”

“Yes, sir,” she bobs her head up and down earnestly, disheveling her hair slightly.

“Rejected! Say, 'kay, Vala.'”

“...K-Kay, Vala,” she corrects herself.

You give her a reassuring handshake. “Great! I think we'll work well together, Sandra.”

She looks like she's about to pass out. Resigned to her fate, she sighs. “Yes, of course.”

“Sandra.”

“...Yes?”

“Our first order of business: talk to some of the residents here. Uh, what's this place called again?”

“Ffion Isles, but this is the Village of the Sky. We're the biggest branch in the island. ” She points over to the right of her. You can make out a smaller island, interconnecting by a bridge to the east. “Over there is the Village of the Air, the second biggest village. Well, it's more of a congregation of many villages than anything else. They just call it one 'village' to make it simpler. Anyhow. If you go further west, there's the Village of the Clouds. They're the smallest branch, but they house the national religion.”

Hmm? Odd. “But wait, what about me? Am I a heretic? Will they burn me at the stake? What if they get me?”

Sandra shrugs nonchalantly. “Though it's officially the national religion, people despise it. The scribes put the religion down as having a 'hundred percent follower rate', the actual numbers are anything but. The higher authorities are corrupt, the priests are greedy, and it rules over people with more aggression than anything else.”

“Hmm, noted. Humans are an incredible race, aren't they?”

“...Hey, don't examine us like specimens of an experiment,” Sandra chides you. “We're a little more complex than that.”

“But of course! That's the beauty of humanity. Its strange complexity.” Oh, what wonders humans bring to the world. “Whether the consequences are positive or not.”

“Didn't you say that you wanted to talk to the residents?”

“I did. Oops. Let's do that now!” You attempt to run off, but Sandra quickly yanks you back by the collar of the robe.

“Whyyy,” you complain.

Brusque, she replies, “You said not to be informal, correct?”

“...Correct,” you whine.

“Follow me, if you will. It's rather easy to go around in circles without getting anywhere in this island.” Sandra turns her back towards you, leading you on. A rather nice girl, isn't she?

On the edge of the sky island sits a man with a fishing pole. His straw hat flutters violently against the wind but never does it once fly off of his head. Inching closer, you steal a good look at his equipment. The fishing pole is rather normal, but the line the man cast glows a subdued blue, humming with energy. The line seems to go down forever from the clouds to the waters below.

“Whatcha up to, old man?” you ask.

He doesn't even look at you, instead focusing his attention on his line and reel. “Fishin'. Are ya blind, son?”

“Aren't we all?”

“Whaddya mean by tha–” A snag on his line catches him by surprise, letting go of the fishing pole. It helplessly flies into oblivion, never to be seen again. “Awww, goddam.”

“If you'd like, I could be of assistance?” You grin cheekily at him.

“Yeah? I doubt you can do anything about that, but you can try.”

“Great!” You give a thumbs-up to Sandra. She nods silently.

A flash of blue. You tap into yourself, channeling a river of flowing energy. It rises and falls in accordance to your breathing. The familiar breath of the Goddess breathes into your soul, infusing your body with magic.

You jump down into the depths below.

“Kid, what inna hell are you doi–!?”

And the world. Slows. Down. Stone platforms rise above from the water to give you passage. Each one takes you closer to the floating fishing pole in the air. It drifts towards you, the grip of the pole falling flatly on your hand.

Skipping your way back to the island, you hum to yourself a tuneless melody. The platforms disappear, as if they were never there.

“Fishing pole secured!” You hand the pole over to the man, who looks somewhere between scared and awed.

“Uh. Wow. Haha. Name's Morgant. Hello.” He constantly shifts his gaze from you to the fishing pole in incredulity.

“Hello. I am Vale, a deity. Nice to meet you!”

“Well I'll be. A deity!” He jabs his finger at Sandra. “Ya finally did it! Hahaha!”

“Yes, I suppose. I didn't really do anything,” she blushes, dismissing the man's boisterous laugh.

“A proper vassal in her humility!” you declare.

“That she is!” Morgant adds.

“...Let's move on,” Sandra wearily mumbles.

“If you say so.”

Ah, humans. How fun they are to tease.

The trek to the next section of the village stretches a moderate distance. Because the island is only partially connected by roads, you and Sandra have to take detours through rocky terrain.

“So. Where are we going now?”

Sandra trudges over a couple of rocks nimbly. Despite wearing such constricting clothes, she's able to traverse through the beaten path with relative ease. “To the central area. Usually where people gather from all villages to talk.”

“About what?”

“Nothing specifically?”

You don't really understand. “So, humans come together and talk about nothing? Emptiness? How dark.”

“No, I mean... they talk about their daily lives and how the weather is and stuff like that. Trivial things.”

“Oh! Human chit-chat. Interesting!” You want to see the humans engage in their gossiping.

Once past the rocks, it's an easy walk to the central area. It's a town square, kinda. The merchants are bustling with busy activity, hurrying to-and-fro from street carts to stands. A mix of sounds all blend together to make a cacophony of bustling noises.

And it's so, incredibly human. .

It's beautiful~

Business is in order.

But a few kids latch onto your robe. One kid in particular spews out a torrent of questions. “Hiya! What's your name? I haven't seen you around. Are you a traveler? How'd you get here? What'syourfavoritecolor?”

“Patience, you. One question at a time,” you say, tapping his forehead.

“Kaaaaaaaay,” he replies. “What's your name? I'm Tyler,” he states with a certain pride that only children can have.

“Vala.”

“Ohhh, cool name.”

“Is it really? I just made it up today.”

“Shouldn't your mom do that for you?” His innocence is blinding!

“I don't have a mom, I think? Not too sure.”

“How were you born then?” The girl of the group asks you this.

“No, you dummy, he's an orphan.”

“You're an orphan!?” asks another boy.

“I'm a deity.”

“Day-tea? What's that?”

“A god!”

And a god does what a god must do: play time.

“Sandraaaaa, heeeeeelp,” you plead, being chased by a half dozen of children.

She eyes you skeptically. “Should gods be wasting time, playing with children like this?

“On the contrary, dear Sandra, playing is a necessary experience.” The children are starting to catch up. It's only a matter of time. “An innocence preserved is important. Only they can believe that I, Vala, am a god without sufficient proof. Children are deceptively honest, if you can follow that contradiction.”

“Yes, but, well...” Sandra can't really think of anything else to say.

And then the children catch you, tackling you to the ground. “Aha, we gotcha! We win!”

“Also,” you wheeze, speaking under a pile of children sitting on top of you. “It is the children who know what to wish for. The adults, you see, they deceive themselves. You can ask them, 'what is your wish?' and they will reply with lies. You should remember that, Sandra.”

“I will.” Sandra, for the first time today, smiles. And it is a good day!

“Sandra. I must absolutely say what's on my mind right now. Your smile is great. Keep doing that.”

Her immediate response is to giggle. “Good effort, but I can't take you seriously when you're being pinned by a group of children.” She shoos them off of you, corralling them.

“A job well done.”

“...All I did was get them off of you.”

“Again. A job well done!”

A crackle.

“Hm?” Sandra turns her head. “Did you hear that?”

“Well– ” And then a cart spontaneously bursts into flames. “Hey, Sandra. Are you some kind of magnet for trouble?”

“As fate would have it, yes.”

Welp.

Screams of terror break through the air, people rushing out of the general vicinity. A group ushers the citizens away from the the fire. Fascinating. They clear out the area first, moving away potential fire hazards from the burning cart.

“Hey, Vala!” Sandra shouts, shaking your arm fervently. “You're a god! Why aren't you doing anything?”

“Sandra, wait,” you hush her. The raging fire flickers in the daylight, snapping viciously at those who dare approach it. You're not sure what will get you first: the fire, or Sandra. You usher her back a few steps. “We'll see how the village resolves this without my help for now.”

The response is delayed, but effective. A squadron of eight, split into two teams of four, alternate between pouring water and sand with large trays to smother the fire. But the method they do it is too slow – they acquire the sand and water too slow. So maybe, you could help? Just a little bit.

“This is where we step in, yes?” you ask Sandra. She ignores you. Less than a day and your reputation with your vassal has gone down the drain. Well. Whatever.

You act.

Ah, magic. What a covetous tool. The Wish Current receives your plea for power, and you shall receive it. Your being dances with the magical stream, asking the very skies to hear your cry for help. The clouds up above gather, raining down precious water on the cart and trays. Just enough so that the trays fill up completely. The fire is almost gone. One last tray of sand should smother it enough for it to disappear.

Whispers. A lot of them from behind you. You turn about-face to see a rather large crowd pointing fingers at you.

You look at the crowd, and then at Sandra.

>”Uh, hi. Nice to meet you all? I'm Vala and this wonderful person right here is my vassal.”
>”I helped!”

You wave at the crowd. “I helped!”

Dead silence. A few of the people stare directly at you. It's rather uncomfortable.

Right now, the overwhelming stream of human emotions floating through your being tell you that they're at the threshold between fear and joy.

Maybe you should egg them on?

“Hello, my name is Vala. I hail from Above, where deities and other supernatural stuff come from. My current hobbies are helping humans douse fires and teasing my vassals.”

No response. Tough crowd.

Someone puts a hand on your shoulder. One of the people from the squadron grins at you. She rubs soot off of her face and speaks. “Citizens. We're still investigating the circumstances of the exploding cart, but rest assured, this man, Vala, has helped us in such a dire circumstance. I believe praise is in order.”

Murmurs from the crowd. They're feeling conflicted now.

But, a sudden hush falls over them. A lone woman emerges from the gathering. She's holding a child, no more than eight years old. Her tears are sincere – you can feel her emotions resounding into the Wish Current. You can hear her: “Save my child.” You can feel her desires pouring through.

Her child's suffering from illness, unable to be cured by the local doctors. The illness consists of a shortness or inability to breathe, violent coughing which leads to hacking up blood, and an unyielding fever. All of this information flows through your person in the instant she casts her gaze at you.

“Sir... I have but one thing to ask.”

And you know the answer. “The moment you wished to ask, you have already received, did you not?”

The world fades from view. Though you are blind, you can feel everything. The breath of each member of the crowd, the grief of the woman, the genuine worry of Sandra. The scenery melds into naught, disappearing into a black nothingness. A fountain of blue washes over and envelops you. And you resurface.

Translucent feathers flutter across the sky. Your wings sprout, flourishing in a glow of white. You flap them once, twice, shushing the crowd.

“Miss,” you say. “You wished for your child to be healed, did you not?”

Clutching her child firmly, she nods. “I did.”

“Then return home. For your child is fully healed, is he not?” You take a breath of life. Your wings disappear from view, fading into nothingness once more.

“...Mornin', ma.”

Through a cracked voice, the woman murmured, “Good morning.”

“Am I okay now? Can I eat ice cream now?” the boy weakly requests.

“...Yes. You can have your most favoritest ice cream now.” The woman laughs tenderly through her tears.

Gently, you prod Sandra to the side. “Let's go, yeah?”

She exhales in relief. “Okay.”

A man hurriedly grabs a hold of your arm. “Wait!”

“Yes?”

“Thank you,” he begrudgingly grumbles out.

“A pleasure to be of service.” You bid him farewell.

“Wait!” they cry.

But you are already gone.

“Why'd you leave?” Sandra questions. “They finally warmed up to you.”

“Humans who watch the needy be saved become nothing more than flatterers.” You slap her on the shoulder. “Besides, how was my serious act? Were you awed? Shocked? Surprised that I'm more competent than I seem?”

“I don't understand you,” Sandra whines.

“I get myself fine. I think humans are the ones that are hard to understand.” Humanity, thy nature is an enigma. You poke the mystery in front of you. Sandra slaps your hand. “Anyway. Where am I going to live?”

“...Eh? Deities need to live somewhere?” Sandra gasps, unaware that you need a place to retire to.

“Well, I'm sure not going to just disappear. Deities are but physical manifestations. We need to take care of our bodies like humans do.”

“Um.”

“You said you were a vassal, right?” You ask mischievously. “Vassal of the god, Sandra, I require that you give me fair lodging!”

Sandra covers her face with her hand and weeps.

Sorry about that. I should have been more clear that you were a male deity from earlier posts. But it's too late now. The train has left the station.

So. Any questions? Comments? Think my quest is shit? Let me know~

I'm glad that shit got smacked down before it could even be brought up. The "WE GOTTA BE SUPER SECRET FOR NO REASON!!!" thing is annoying as fuck.

I like that Vala is the way he is and doing the incognito bullshit would have made me drop this quest on the spot.

Not really, but I guess I'll figure it out. Saying the day and time in EST is usually easier to figure out since EST is what 4chan uses, but I'm not about to harp on you over something this minor and unimportant.

Sorry about being all snippy about it. I've just had too many QMs say things like "Tomorrow at X time" and their timezone conversion whatever led to everyone thinking thread in 12 or so hours when it was really ~36 hours away because of day shenanigans. It's always better to just give the date, so thanks for doing so.
