Character Sheet and rules eventually.

=========================
=========================

You are Nila Waelind. Wandering adventurer, immortal arcane master, Divine Magus of the goddess Asra - cute little girl. After having your afternoon drink rudely confiscated by a bumbling local you happened upon a young girl escaping from kidnappers: Amala Lusseel. You have since left out on a journey to take the girl home along with the fairy Tuulikki. You have entered the Haius plains, where you encountered the young boy Eiji - in mourning over the death of his father.

You trail your eyes across the group before you - now back above ground - with a disgruntled glare.

Eiji crosses his arms - a hard stare on his face, glaring at some spot behind Goro's head. The turtle-like hermit chuckles, nervous, scratching at his neck and averting his eyes.

Terenei tuts, resting her hands on Eiji's shoulders. She whispers something encouraging into the boy's ear and he scowls, shaking her hands off with a violent shrug.

Amy and Tuulikki stand off to the side. Amy kneading the cloth of her cloak - gripped tight in her trembling fists. She looks at Eiji - a distant, troubled stare. Tuulikki stuff her hands in her pockets - face scrunched in discomfort and concentration.

You close your eyes, sighing. It seems you'll have to start this discussion yourself.

>Well. First, let's get apologies out of the way. Goro? Eiji?

I have a feeling that they both will be tagging along on our journey.
Could be fun at least.

"Alright. That's quite enough!" You bolt to your feet - shadows flickering and clawing out from the ground. Goro stumbles forward - a black palm pressing against his shelled back. Eiji curses at the top of his lungs, thrashing his arms in wild swings - another claw lifting him up into the air. It shoves the boy right up to the old man - their noses pressing against each other.

"Now," you begin. "You two better kiss and make up-" You shove them just a little closer together - their lips almost touching. "Or I'll make you do it for real."

Tuulikki slaps her hands over her mouth - cheeks puffed out in a suppressed snort. Amy and Terenei swing around to face you. "Nila!"

You smirk, watching Eiji try to shove the old man back by his shoulders - his neck bent back as far as it goes. "Damnit, twerp! The hell you trying to make me do!? I don't want this old man's filthy geezer germs!!"

Goro grunts, trying to keep his balance on his floating disc. He stares up at the boy - eyes clouded over. He takes in a deep breath through his nose.

"I'm sorry there, boy."

"Shut up! I don't wanna hear that right now! Get your wrinkled face the hell away from me!"

"I was supposed to help ye and your old man pass on through here without any trouble but I couldn't stop Osstuss from hurtin' old Haius."

Eiji flinches at the name of the water spirit from before. "Shut the hell up!"

The man chokes - tears soaking his moss-like beard. Moisture collects in the air around him, forming cloudy wisps of sullen fog. "I should've been able to help ye, boy, but this old codger couldn't do a darned thing. Can ye ever forgive me?"

Eiji stops - eyes wavering.

"I thought I said shut up, damnit!"

He slams his palm against Goro's shoulder, throwing his whole weight forward. "You don't have a reason to cry! You didn't just lose your dad; I did! I'm the one who's supposed to be crying here!" He hangs his head - his brow pressing up against the old man's.

>>35916677
"And I'm the one who's supposed to...to apologize too. You- you were just trying to help me and I tried to..."

Goro smiles - a soft, forgiving grin. He pats the boy on the head. "It's okay there, Eiji. I won't hold anythin' against ye for grievin'. This old man understands."

You smile, letting the tension out of your shoulders. You lower Eiji to the ground - the shadows returning back to normal. Terenei rushes over to the boy - Amy almost following behind, stopping after just a single step forward.

That went better than I'd hoped really. Now to see what'll happen to the kid from now on.
>>
You nod to yourself. The boy needs time to process; you should leave him be for now. But the matter of what to do from here still needs discussing. You stare at the three before you - the old man and nymph huddled around the crying boy. You need to talk to those two.

"Amy. Tuuli." The two turn in your direction. "Would either of you mind keeping the boy company for a moment? I have to discuss some things with the hermit and the harlot over there."

Tuulikki shrugs. "Yeah, sure. No problem, Nila. I'll go over there n'-" She pauses, wincing to herself. "Yeeeeaaah, I'll figure somethin' out. I guess." She floats over to the boy, rubbing the back of her head and muttering something like "I suck at this kinda stuff" under her breath.

You turn to Amy, raising your eyebrow. "And you?"

Amy lowers her head, playing with her fingers. "Ummm, I don't think I can - I mean I don't know how to-" She frowns, staring back up at you. "What am I supposed to say to him, Nila?"

You sigh, resting your hand on her shoulder.

"That's alright then."

Amy blinks, lifting her eyebrows up. "Huh? It is?"

"Yeah. Of course it is." You smile. "Just don't ignore the boy forever over this, okay? There's more to talk to him about than..." You trail off. "Well, you know."

Amy nods, shuffling her feet. "Yeah, okay. It's just-" She shakes her head. "Never mind. Thanks, Nila."

You give her a quick pat on the head before turning around. "Don't mention it," you wave at her from over your shoulder, walking over to the rest of the group. "Just wait there and keep an eye on Eiji and Tuulikki for me, understand?"

"Okay! I will!"

Terenei and Goro walk over to you - Eiji and Tuulikki arguing over something inane just behind them.

"Sooo~ ummmmm." The nymph rubs at her shoulder. "You wanted to chat with us or something, Nila?"

Goro nods his head, brushing his hands through his beard. "Yes, yes. What be ye looking to ask us there, Lady Nila?"

"It's about Eiji." You start, putting your hands on your hips.

"Do either have any idea where to take him from here? Has he mentioned family or a hometown to you at all, Terenei?"

Terenei shakes her head, her long hair sloshing back in forth. "I asked him but he just travels around with his dad."

You frown. "A nomad, then?"

Terenei shrugs. "I dunno. He didn't mention a tribe or anything and I don't know much about all that stuff."

"Hmmmmm." Goro leans forward - his palm pressed into his thigh. "Bit of conundrum, that. The nomads that go through these parts don't pass through this time of the year. The boy and his pa were here on their own."

You rub your chin, thinking to yourself. An adventurer taking his son with him, maybe?

"A-anyway, that doesn't really matter, right?" The nymph speaks up. "If he doesn't have any family then me and the girls can just take care of him!"

Goro frowns. "Nnnnn, don't know about that there, miss. No offense to you intended but that ain't much of a place to raise a boy."

"Ooooh~ and why is that, hmmm?" The nymph crosses her arms, twisting her hips away from the man with an annoyed pucker of her lips. "I've been taking care of him just fine so far. What's the problem?"

"I'm sayin' the boy needs to be around his own kind! Not much of a problem for an old man like me to be out here on his own but that kind of thing can do strange things to a kid's mind, you hear? Ain't that right, Nila?"

Option 1 gets him stuck in our party and frankly I don't want to share Amy.

You press your palm against your forehead, rubbing it into your skin with frustration. "Those are all -exceptional- thoughts, I'm quite sure, but what about asking the boy what he wants to do, hmm?"

The two stare at you - silent.

"Hmph. Typical adults. You're always-" You cut off your rant before it can begin, sucking in a calming breath. You place your hands on your hips and tilt your head in Eiji's direction. "Now. Shall we?"

The two nod, following behind you as you stride over to the boy.

"Dang it, Tuuli! Stand still!" Eiji swipes in the air - Tuulikki easily floating away from his fingers, laughing. Amy giggles, watching the group from a little ways a way.

"Ha!" Tuulikki's hair antenna waggles with mirth - her body spinning in the air like a ballerina on her tip-toes. "Don't think so, Eiji! Not until ya take back what ya said~"

"Never!" Eiji scrambles up onto a tall rock and jumps off of it, throwing his whole body over the top of the small fairy. Tuulikki twirls out of the way with a gentle gust - Eiji falling flat onto his stomach with a groaning "oomph". Amy falls over onto her back, hands smacking against each other in applause at the impressive belly flop.

"Ya can't hit the wind, Eiji~"

Eiji grumbles - dust from the road kicking up in the air as he jumps to his feet. "You're cheating!"

Tuulikki snorts, skipping across the air with a few flips and twirls. "Cheatin' how? S'just how I am. Can't help the fact I'm so tiny and flowy, ya know. S'your fault for sayin' I was too much of a pipsqueak to fight. So now you gotta prove it!"

Eiji's face reddens. "I can't because I can't even hit you!"

"And that's exactly-" Tuulikki flies right up to Eiji's face. "The point I'm tryin' to illustrate here." Tuulikki glides away from Eiji's hands. "Ya. Can't. Hit. The. Wind~"

Eiji growls, scratching his hands against his scalp. "OKAY! YOU WIN! I take it back! Now stop being so annoying!"

Terenei giggles, resting her palm against her cheeks. "Now, Eiji, you need to learn to control your temper."

Eiji looks up at the sound of the nymph's fluttering voice - all the frustration immediately evaporating from his face. "Teri!"

The nymph collects the boy up in a hug; Eiji chuckles. "So what were you talking about with the twerp and the geezer over there?"

"Oh? Well, ummm." The nymph pauses, wriggling her button-nose in thought. "You see, Eiji, we were just having a little chat about you, actually. And we wanted to know where you want to go from here? Like where to live from now on? You want to stay with me, right?"

Eiji frowns, digging his face into the nymph's stomach. "'Course I want to stay with you Teri, but..."

Terenei rests her hand on top of Eiji's head. "But what?"

Eiji shrugs. "I don't want to stay here..."

Terenei frowns. "Why not?"

"Because I hate this place! There's that dumb dog under the shell, and this dumb turtle, and all those stupid bimbos..."

"Hey!"

"They're annoying, Teri! I'm sorry but I don't like it there!"

You shrug your shoulders. "Have you considered moving away at all, Terenei? Most human towns wouldn't mind a water nymph as long as you keep certain...proclivities, to yourself. It's quite the blessing to the town's water supply."

The nymph lowers her head, patting Eiji's head automatically; her eyes cloud over - lost in thought. "I don't know..."

Eiji stares up at her - an expectant look on his face.

Terenei's mouth wobbles - eyes shaking with indecision. Finally she sighs. "I...I suppose we can do that, yeah." She turns to you. "But where would we go?"

You take in a deep breath - already regretting what you're about to say. "The three of us are travelling East. If you'd like, you can accompany us until we reach the next town."

"Oh~" Terenei turns to you with a bubbly smirk. "Really, cutie?"

You roll your eyes. "Yes, really. Now don't make me regret my choice."

Terenei giggles. "Alright, cutie. I'll do my best~"

"Ugh." Your shoulders slump. "No matter. So when can you be ready?"

The nymph puts her finger to her lips, puckering them out. "Hmmmm, well~ I don't have anything to unpack but I do need to say goodbye to everyone. I hope you don't mind."

You wave your hand dismissively. "No, not at all. In fact, I welcome the chance to get you out of my sight for a while. You should go and do that immediately."

Terenei sticks her lips out further in a pouty whine. "You're no fun~"

You flick your hair, turning away from her. "I just have a different ideas of 'fun' than you."

"Oooh, fine. Be that way." She bends down to Eiji's eye levels at the waist. "Now Eiji, you wait right here for me, 'kay?"

Eiji shrugs, crossing his arms. "Fine. But don't leave me with these dopes for too long."

Terenei frowns, ruffling the boy's hair. "You really need to stop that~ You won't make any friends that way."

Eiji slaps her hand away, flushing. "I said stop acting like my mom!"

The nymph giggles. "You better get used to it. Now be a good dear while mommy's away~" She skips out of sight - back to the underground caverns of Haius.

Eiji turns to you. "So I've gotta tag along with you now, huh, twerp?"

"Hmph!" You bop the boy lightly on the head with your staff. "It looks like it, brat. So you better learn some respect."

"Ummm..."

"What is it?" Eiji turns to his left - still rubbing at the top of his head. Amy flinches at the irritated glare - her hand stopping half-reached out towards him.

"Uh, well, I." Amy fidgets with her hands. "I-I'm Amy!" She curtsies - a quick jolt up-and-down. "It's, umm...nice to meet you?"

Eiji scoffs. "Weren't you that girl laughing at me just a second ago?"

Amy blinks, looking back-and-forth. She finally puts her hands on her hips, puffing out her chest. "Yes!"

The boy stares for a silent moment before snorting, bursting into laughter. "What the heck's with that answer?"

Heheh, nice one

>>35924384
I don't mind some kind of romance for Nila, as long as it doesn't take away from Amy-time/adventures
>>
>>35924563
Nila's probably who it would be, yeah.

I really like writing romance but I hate stories that throw it in there just because. Nila's problems with intimacy make that kind of relationship more meaningful though, since it makes that kind of thing a huge character development moment.
>>
>>35924639
Her intimacy-issues is what makes me interested in seeing it really. But you should do what you feel fits the story, and it's not like there's a hurry. Can always see if there's a point where it fits, or a character pops up with good chemistry, etc. And if not, oh well.
>>
>>35924677
It's up to the players in the end. I have some ideas of how it would fit and who she might even go with but I'm not writing this (entirely) for myself.
