Previously, you have explored the rest of Ffion Isles and met with some of its inhabitants, failed to convince Sandra, your ever-faithful vassal, to find and wear a silly hat, teleported yourself and Sandra into the middle of a battlefield in Arkad, absolutely CRUSHED the enemy deity with reality-bending magic, talked to different deity and friend(?) called Minerva and figured out the situation between Arkad and its insurgents. Which Minerva is a part of.

Hectic? Yeah. It's been that kind of day.

You get yourself some much needed sleep. You're going to need it.

The morning comes quick – quicker than you would have liked. But at least you woke up at a reasonable time. You're tempted to check up on Sandra, but you decide otherwise. She might get mad again like that one time.

You'll settle for a knock on her door. “Sandra,” you call out to her. No response. Maybe she's sleeping?

The main door squeaks open. Sandra pops out, nodding curtly at you. Maybe not.

“Sandra.” You repeat once more, now that she's actually here. “I'm sorry that–”

“Spare me the sob symphony, please.” She holds up two fingers. “I just want to know two things. What happened and what did I miss while I was out?”

“Do you want the long story or the short one?” you inquire.

“Short, but with the important details added in,” Sandra answers.

“Where to begin,” you muse. “Well. We arrived in a nation called Arkad, who is at war with their own rebels. Arkad Insurrexica, I think? Anyway, they're fighting each other because they seceded and Arkad didn't like that because they are a conquer-nation or something like that. Anya, the blonde, is on Arkad's side. I think she hates me. Minerva's the blue haired girl that you didn't really get to meet because you were busy being unconscious. She’s nice, I guess.”

Sandra massages the bridge of her nose, exhaling slowly. “Okay. Did you pick sides?”

“No,” you respond. “I don’t know enough so I want to investigate before I can do anything.”

“I see.” She mulls over the matter, tapping her finger to her chin. “Oh, and. About the fight against the Arkad woman.”

“What about it?”

“...Good job,” she brusquely coughs out.

A knock on the door. You open it to find Nina and her crewmate, uh. You never asked for his name, did you?

“Heya,” the guy greets you. “How was the place?”

“It could've been better. We got stuck in the middle of a battlefield the moment we stepped foot in the place, so we didn't get far.” You still have no idea what his name is. You hand him the map, pointing to the general area.

>Desire Granted! Explore the unknown area.
>Current BP: +10(x2)+11 = 31/75 BP

“So did you run for your lives?” chuckles Nina.

“No,” Sandra cuts in. “He obliterated them.”

“That's our god for ya,” the man whistles. “As expected of Vala.”

“I can rest easy knowing that you'll make the right decision.” Nina kneels, giving you a formal bow. “We don't have any army, but we'll be your moral support! Ffion backs you, whatever you do. You are our benevolent deity after all.”

>Belief Points granted. Current BP: 5(x2)+31 = 41/75 BP

“Thank you. And peace be with you.”

“Good luck!” the man shouts.

“Yeah. I'll take any luck I can get.” Motioning for Sandra to get closer, you smirk. “Ready this time?”

“No,” she groans. “Go anyway.”

And the two of you disappear.

>41 – 10 = 31/75 BP

You reappear with Sandra, but not at the place you expected. The area looks different from the previous battlefield. It's a lot more rural and not ransacked with the aftereffects of your magic.

Just ahead are two girls. One with frizzy brown hair. The other with white hair.

“Uh, hi,” you call out to them.

Sandra, still woozy after the teleportation, wobbles away.

“He's trying to kidnap a girl!”

What.

Then they both shoot at you.

Magic bolts. Reaaaaally weak ones. You don't bother deflecting them, instead swatting them away with your hand. They fizzle out with a whimper.

“Uh, I only want to know where–”

The girl with the brown hair steps in front of the white haired girl. Her look of bravery is unyielding, if not melodramatic. All you want to know is your current location. Is that so much to ask for? She throws out a spear of ice.

A rather flimsy one.

You can tell that it's rather fragile, so you lightly kick it with your sandal. It shatters completely, much like the poor girl's battle spirit.

Is... is she crying?

“So, um,” you continue. “...Where am I?”

The white haired girl blinks numbly. “Could you not be one of Arkad's men?”

“I wish you'd ask me that before you shoot me,” you sigh. “Anyhow, could you take me to a safe place? My vassal's about to pass out again.”

Sandra, as if responding to your words, keels over.

“...Please?”

They take you there, but not without making it as inconvenient for you as possible. Well, at least the brown haired girl is. She alternates between pouting at you and avoiding eye contact. The other girl seems more comfortable. She takes you to a small village, even smaller than Ffion's Village of the Clouds. You enter a cottage, bustling with children on the first floor. You set Sandra down on a nearby cot.

“Just... let me be for a while. You figure things out.” She waves you off, covering her eyes with the back of her hand.

“Traveler,” the white haired girl speaks. She motions for you to sit down, so you oblige her. “Where do you hail from?”

“Ffion Isles, if you know where that is. It's an island high up in the sky.”

She frowns. “Can't say I've ever heard of it before. Our community has little business outside.”

You shrug. “That's okay. I've only recently figured out how to get out. And it isn't the most surefire way either.”

“Then how'd you do it?” she inquires.

“It helped that I had a map,” you helpfully mention.

“Yes, and that helps you how exactly when you have to navigate back and forth from sea to sky?” the brown haired girl asks spitefully, leering at you whenever possible.

“My sense of direction is horrible,” you say, shrugging. “So, back to my original question. Where am I?”

“You're in Lymarck, traveler. Welcome to our humble estate. It's been a while since our last friendly visitor.” The white haired girl stands up, curtseying. “I'm Lillian, the current Deity of Lymarck.”

“Well met. I'm Vala. And she?” you point to her brown-haired friend.

“Don't point at me,” she lashes out.

“She is Arden. Also the current Deity of Lymarck.” Lillian gives Arden a shy smile of acknowledgment.

“Oh, oka–” Wait, wait, wait. “...Pardon?”

“We're both Deities of Lymarck,” she clarifies.

“You can do that?” you question her, almost jumping out of your chair.

“I don't see why not,” Arden sneers. “Two's stronger than one.”

You pause, staring riiiight at her.

“...Two's stronger than one,” she mutters again, visibly frustrated. She clenches the top of the chair and turns away.

Just in time, Sandra joins the party. “I don't think I'll ever get used to that, Vala.”

“This is Sandra.” you introduce her. “My esteemed vassal.”

“Nice to meet you, Sandra,” Lillian bows. “I'm Lillian.”

“N-Nice to meet you too,” Sandra stutters.

“I'm Arden. A pleasure, Sandra.”

“Ah, err, yeah...” your vassal mumbles. “Pleasure to meet you.”

Now that introductions are over with.

“I don't mean to be rude, but...” you sheepishly grin. “You guys are kinda weak for deities.”

“I'm afraid we don't have many followers because we protect such a small village,” Lillian says abashedly.

“I'll kick your ass,Vala.” Arden deadpans.

Sandra, right on cue, adds, “Before you consider that... I'm going to assume that Arkad is somewhere nearby. Did you see a bright flash last evening?”

Arden nods. “Oh, the bright light that broke the day cycle. It's called an aurora, right?”

Sandra delivers her lines perfectly. “...No, that was just him.”

Lillian gasps, covering her mouth with her hand.

Arden, suddenly unable to function properly, buckles over. “WHAT.”

“Hello, I'm Vala, Deity of Eire. Nice to meet you.” You wave to Arden. “Before you get all speechless, I have a couple of more questions to ask.”

She sputters out incoherent words, so Lillian steps forward. “Yes?”

“Has the civil war affected Lymarck?”

She tilts her head. “Civil war?”

“Err, does the nation Insurrexica– wait, Insurrexio, sound familiar?”

She hmms. “I'm afraid I don't know anything about an Insurrexica or Insurrexio.”

“And Minerva?” you add, grasping at straws.

“I don't know,” she leans forward, putting her hands over yours. “I'm sorry I wasn't of help.”

“It's fine,” you dismiss the issue. So they're not interconnected. Arkad's shaping up to be a monster, isn't it?

A bell chimes throughout the village.

“And that is?” Sandra asks.

Lillian lowers her head. “Arkad's vanguard is returning?”

“So what will you do?” you question the deities.

Arden glowers. “Obviously, we fight.”

“So we're in agreement, then. But let me do you a favor, as an apology for earlier.” You leave the cottage, already making your way towards the Arkadians.

Arden is about to say something, but Lillian quickly slaps her hand over her friend's mouth, nodding sweetly. “You have our thanks, Vala.”

Over the bridge is the vanguard, lined up in formation.

“Mark!” shouts a man holding a flag with a red cross striking through the middle. “We respectfully ask that you submit your village to the greater need of Arkad!”

“And if we respectfully decline?” hollers Sandra.

“Then we will respectfully seize it!” the man yells back.

“Seize if you must,” you declare. “If you are able to.”

“Have at you, then!”

The archers release a volley of arrows. The amount of arrows flying down is quite meager – they didn't bring a lot of troops. Then again, they were probably not expecting a fight.

You throw your hand down, a clap of air smashing the arrows into bits mid-air. After your fight with Anya, you feel oddly prepared for this skirmish, if you can even call it that.

But their soldiers are advancing steadily. Some get hit by the broken arrows, which you find amusing.

You're not particularly in the mood to be fighting. You'd much rather be spending your time doing something else. But it's always Arkad and their conquests, yadda yadda. Frankly, you're getting a little tired of this!

The winds are calm. And you're rather calm.

Sandra frets, grabbing the hands of both Arden and Lillian.

“Whuh!? What's going on–”

Sandra drags them towards you, quieting Arden.

“Is something the matter, Sandra?” Lillian inquires.

Your vassal sports an uneasy grimace. “I've learned something the last day or so. When in doubt, hide behind Vala.”

The leaves rustle. You breathe in. And then you breathe out.

A sharp whistle can be heard, if only for a few seconds. As it fades away, a quick rush of air screams towards the hapless soldiers, devouring the arrows still in the ear, ripping away trees from their roots, and utterly ripping their armor off of their backs, sending an assortment of nature and equipment flying into aetherspace.

There used to be a field lush with trees here. Now it's just uprooted grass and scattered soldiers running around practically naked.

Sandra has a look of disappointment on her face. One that screams: “You know what you did and you should be ashamed of yourself.”

You have no regrets. Defiantly, you tell your vassal, “I helped.”

Lillian's face is that of complete awe and joy. She shakes Arden gleefully, who's too busy looking down at the ground bashfully.

>Belief Points gained! +15(x2)+31 = 61/75 BP.

“Vala, you're incredible!” Lillian grabs your hands, shaking them up and down frantically. “Would you join our religion? Or maybe that's too arrogant. Would you allow these two deities of modest backgrounds join?”

“I guess?”

Arden is completely horrified. “Lillian!”

“It's not like we can do this by ourselves anymore,” she gripes. “We're Lymarck's deities, right? We have to save Lymarck. We don't have a lot of options right now.”

“I refuse,” she abruptly turns to face you, sighing. “And it's not because of some petty grudge. I admit, we may have got off on the front foot, but let me be clear. I am one of Lymarck's deities. I protect its people. I will remain independent, no matter how weak that makes me. What is being a god, if it means you can't rely on your followers?”

“So what if you can't?” In a quieter voice, Lillian adds, “It's better than being weak enough for Lymarck to fall.”

I was actually invisioning a system sorta similar to Greece though. Just because the Persains were fucking around didn't mean that when the greeks united to fight them they suddenly became a single empire. Don't tell me what to do.

Their eyes fall on you. Apparently, it's now your responsibility. “If you want to join, then you are free to do so. I have no objections whatsoever.” Turning to Lillian, you pat her on the shoulder. “But, my personal opinion is that you two work far better together than separately. Ultimately, it's your call.”

She silently pleads to Arden with her eyes, but the brown-haired deity refuses to match her gaze. Despite this, Lillian reaches over to pull her friend into a gentle embrace. Arden stiffly returns it. Returning to your side, she nods firmly. “I, Lillian, Deity of Lymarck, wish to join you.”

>Belief Points earned! +50(x2)+61 = 161 / 75+25 = 161/100 BP.
>Specialization unlocked! Valor: +10 to ALL rolls when defending an ally with weaker proficiencies.
>Lilian's profiency has increased!
>Miracles (innate) 2 → 3

You sigh. “We have a lot to do, Lillian. We're still currently investigating the matter with Arkad and its rebels.”

“I may not be strong, but I'll do my best to help.”

“So that's that, huh?” Arden sits down on the chair, resting her elbows on the table. “You're just going to up and leave Lymarck?”

“No.” Lillian responds, resolve in her voice. “I intend to come back and save Lymarck.”

“I'll save Lymarck before you can even think about it,” Arden proclaims. “You'll see.”

They bid each other a silent farewell.

“...Arden,” your new deity breathes, “that idiot.”

Sandra stays silent for the matter, pulling Lillian into a hug.

Crossing the bridge, you faintly recall that you should be entering Arkad's territory. Damn Nina's crewman for taking your map. Or maybe you handed it to him. Damn yourself.

Arkad should be to the left, and the rebels should be to the right... right?

But, looking at that picture...is Arkad bottlenecked trying to get to Avalon? Raising Lymarck would destroy any chances of a land invasion and turn that war into a naval one.

“First, we're going to investigate Arkad. We know enough about the insurgents.”

“We do?” asks Sandra.

“I do, at least.” You point to her. “You passed out.”

She elbows your side, frustrated. “It's not my fault that dimension-warping makes me unnaturally dizzy!”

“Can't help it! That's the only way we can get here in the first place,” you smugly chant, dodging her jabs.

Lillian smiles. “I'm glad you two get along.”

“Sure. A deity and vassal have to get along. That's just fact,” you point out the obvious.

“Don't think she meant it by religious hierarchy, Vala.”

“On what other basis would you even use?” you ask.

“If you need to ask, then it doesn't matter,” Sandra states, matter-of-fact.

“Humans,” you shrug.

“But Lillian's a god.”

Oh.

You manage to get into one of the cities of Arkad without encountering any troops. Seems like they're gone for now. The roads are bustling with activity, far more busy than any street in Ffion. You hear the gossiping and chattering of the crowd. One voice in particular stands out.

Ahaha, can't be possible. Because what are the odds of that happening?

“Va–”

You pull Sandra and Lillian close, effectively shutting them up. You hold your breath, straining to hear the conversation.

“...And you're saying that they won't just kill each and every last one of those rebels?”

“Of course not.” You know she's scowling. A really mean one, too. “Unlike those fools, we have honor. We don't retreat and leave our men for dead.”

“Oh, come on now!” another voice barks. “Do you really think that “justice will save all” bullshit is the plan here? They're going to be massacred. Have a fuckin' heart!”

“You think I like killing everyone? Hearing their cries for mercy? No.” You hear fists slam on a hard surface. “If we overpower Insurrexio in one fell swoop, then there will be less casualties on both sides. Good for everyone.”

“Anya. Listen to me.” A pause. “What if we're wrong?”

A dull thwack echoes.

“I won't allow ourselves to be wrong.”

A door slams. You can barely hear them anymore. Almost as if they were –

Coming.

Straight.

At you.

You push Sandra and Lillian away before attempting your own getaway, but the door bangs open, with Anya slamming a man into the wall before storming off. She didn't notice you, despite a few inches from crashing into you.

A mask clatters to the floor. Very stiffly, you pick it up, handing it to the fallen man.

“Thank you,” the man says, rubbing his neck. “You know how deities are.”

“Yeah, of course. Deities.”

It's the same voice. He has the same voice. He gives you a strange look, tapping the sword on his belt. Then, he smiles. In a rather heartfelt way.

“Hey,” Sandra pulls on your collar, yanking you back. “I demand an explanation. Now.”

Lillian's just blushing in the corner while you're being pulled around the street. You make eye contact with the man with the sword.

“Blessed be you,” he says, disappearing into the crowd.
