You are Andre Meilleur, and you are sick and tired of these goddamn sensor problems. You look out the plasteel windows, and see the MechWarrior you knocked out lying on the ground.

The Doctor sees you looking at him. “He'll probably be fine. You didn't shoot him. Like you did some other people.”

You grit your teeth. “Well he wasn't holding a gun on me. Like some other people.”

“I'm just sayin'. You could have, you know, gone in and asked nicely. Like people do. You give black men a bad name, Andre.”

“Because nobody's going to freak out at a black man in tight shorts who has a gun. When there have been explosions outside.”

“Well, I'd imagine they'd freak out less if you, you know, didn't point the gun at them. Or run in yelling 'CRIME TIME, MOTHERFUCKER!'”

“That was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I will thank you for not ruining it.”

The Doctor shrugs. “Why did you get another one of these buckets of shit, anyway?”

You turn to the doctor, eyes wide, at the great offense he has given. “Do not. Talk badly. About my baby. That way.”

He holds up his hands. “Whatever. You know how we're getting out of here?”

“SAME WAY WE CAME IN. FIRE AND BRIMSTONE AND AC/20 ROUNDS.”

Map is of a normal size for megamek, it just does not lend itself well to inline expansion. You have to view it in a separate window, you don't get enough zoom with just inlining it.
>>
>>35965272

Upper right-hand of the map are approximately where the 5000 hexes are.
>>
You are now Motoko Meilleur, and you still have no goddamn idea where your father is.

It's comfortably warm in the Sha Yu. You haven't been taxing the heat sinks particularly much, as the Charger and Anubis were... comically terrible at actually attacking you. Of course, once you actually get into a fight, this thing's heat issues will make it nice and toasty inside.

But that won't happen, right? Right?

Your eyes scan over the status displays for the Sha Yu- a bit of superficial armor damage. Nothing worrying at all, you took out over a hundred tons of 'Mech (shitty mech, mind you, but mech nonetheless) without taking any real damage.

Which is good, because you're stepping deeper into the city. Deeper, where the probable rest of the enemy mercs are.

If they're there at all. Christ, why can't this be cut and dried? And why the hell can't Andre answer his goddamn radio?

You are now Andre Meilleur. A momentary feeling of regret for forgetting your radio in the first Urbanmech washes over you. Eh. Wasn't that important, was it?

You are now Motoko Meilleur.

Across the river, past the volatile fuel tanks, you can see farmland. No magscan signatures there. Your rendezvous point was supposed to be at the park, and still may be. You should be getting there.

>Loop up and around. Keep the farmland to your back.
>Head through the office park. It's a direct route, and you don't have to crash through any buildings to get there.
>Head south. There's a nice 24-meter tall building on a hill that you can use as cover as you approach the park.

I think south is a good idea. Also, let's keep the stealth armor running, I hope.

Sha Yus are great mechs, but ultimately team players. We don't have any real support, and we can't force PSR's on this 'bot, so we better be as invisible as possible. Despite our gigantic platform boots.
>>
You decide not to go through the office park, and instead roll on down to the office building. Nothing on radar, nothing on magscan, it's eerily quiet. Even the constant cursing and hatred that came from the Anubis pilot has stopped.

You round the corner of a two-story building onto the road leading up to the park, and you catch a glimpse of humanoid-shaped metal. You dash behind the four-story building, and your computer chirps.

“Mech powerup detected.”

Oh, for fuck's sake, not again.

“Hold, milady. I wish to have an honorable duel between the two of us.”

Oh, great. Even worse. A fucking clanner.

Your battle computer chirps, having successfully determined what it is you're facing. A Lancelot- one with some bullshit Word of Blake tech, no less.

>Respond with your lasers. You can detect him from here, and there are only a few trees in the way.
>Respond accepting the duel, with no conditions.
>Respond accepting the duel, but ask him for a concession for fairness. He does outweigh you 20 tons.

Filthy lowborn talk.

>honorable duel

This guy doesn't seem talk much like a Clanner. He'd spout out something more like "This is bondsman blah blah blah of hurfdurf, I hereby challenge you to a duel. Here are my terms: blah blah blah, what do you bid or something like that?" Either he's not a Clanner, or this guy has been gotten the Clanner attitude toned down. Which means that he's not above underhanded shenanigans.

That C3i computer means that he can spot for buddies, too. All in all, this isn't looking much like a bondsman.
>>
“Oh, christ, what are you, some kind of clanner?”

He laughs, rich and full, over the radio. You roll your eyes. “No, no, of course not. Why, I'm just in favor of seeing conflicts settled with a minimum of violence and bloodshed.”

A third voice butts in, and you recognize this one. “YOU'RE AN IDIOT,” Montel shouts over the comms. “JUST KILL HER AND BE DONE WITH IT.”

For once, you agree with Montel. You imagine him as a small, bald midget, barely able to reach the jump jet controls on his Anubis. It's an entertaining mental image. The Lancelot pilot sighs. “And you've expended all of your ordnance for what, a few scratches?”

“I SNEEZED WHEN I PULLED THE TRIGGER, OKAY?!”

“You're just a spastic.”

The two of them continue bickering over the radio while you maneuver your 'Mech a little closer so as to get into a better range bracket for your TAG, and order up an Arrow IV.

Roll 2d6. (3 base, + 1 (attacker walked), + 0 (defender stationary), + 2 (medium range (10 hexes))), needs 6 to succesfully TAG target.

(And then roll me a bunch of 2d6 for hit locations, et cetera, et cetera. You CAN fire more weapons, but he's more likely to notice actually being lasered for damage, and is likely to return fire. And call you dishonorabru. Which you are.)

Motoko was raised by "CRIME TIME, MOTHERFUCKER!" Andre Meilleur. And if she wasn't some sort of DC emigrant, she may have hailed from the Draconis March. Which also doesn't really favor real well into being honorabaru for ancestors.
>>
>>35966933
Nigger, at least we'll get to have a family. Unlike that fedora-wearing wizard candidate. Who's about to die in a fire.

>>
>>35966933

>>
>>35967083
Might not be the best of ideas. Backing up to 14 range will put you right into a building. You can back up to 12 range, but any more than that, and you'll have to turn. 4819 and further will give you complete cover due to buildings, and 4721 will give you both +2 for two intervening light woods, whereas any further will make you unhittable
>>
>>35967169
Further south, that is.
>>
The pilot of the Lancelot is too busy bickering with and making fun of Montel to pay you, or your fancy TAG laser any heed. Besides, the TAG alarm in most 'Mechs is a low buzz, given that most Great Houses don't bother with artillery, calling it 'unnecessary' or 'inflexible'.

You call it NIGGA GOT DUNKED as the Arrow coasts in, riding the laser beam into the torso of the Lancelot. The 'Mech twists away from the explosion, and manages to stay upright. “What the hell, MechWarrior?!” the Lancelot pilot shouts.

Montel, to his credit, is laughing his ass off. “I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO, MORON! I FUCKING TOLD YOU!”

The Lancelot pilot is not amused, and as he gets his balance back, he's bringing his weaponry to bear on you, while remaining stationary for a stable weapons platform.

You, however...

>Charge right at him in hopes of getting a quick knockout by way of more crits into that left torso. (This will move you to 3715, with you getting a +1 attacker walked to-hit modifier, and a +3 on your defensive to-hit. All of your weapons will be short range.)
>Back up to the building behind you, and zap him at the longest range you can manage (12).
>Back up to 4721, put some woods between you and him, and zap at him.
>Turn and run, break contact (north/south, pick one)

Also, you can:

>Call up Eighty
>Call up another Arrow (will not hit this turn, but next)

Just out of curiousity, where is Eighty on the map? I know he's submerged, but where exactly?

>Back up to 4721, put some woods between you and him, and zap at him.

>Call up Eighty

I'm thinking we should try to position him so that Eighty can get some good hits on him when he closes. That Lancelot got sucker-punched in the torso, and that engine hit means that he's going to be sorely pressed to fire two of his weapons at once. Still, he's fast and comparatively heavily armored and armed compared to us.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Battletech Heat Scale, here it is:
>>
>>35968065
So he down 3 move points and has a plus 2 mod to fire?
>>
>>35968065
Shouldn't our hits of his engine knock out some heat sinks?
>>
You look longingly at your Stealth Armor toggle, wanting to flip it off so as to not have to deal with the heat it generates. But you're not going to charge him, and at these ranges, your ECM system might just bring in enough interference for him to miss.

“Fuck it,” you say, and trigger both of your ER Large Lasers. The scarlet lances leap from your arm-mounted Martell lasers, and one of them hits the Lancelot home. You were aiming for his left torso, to get more delicious engine hits, and maybe completely take his 'Mech out of action, but you force it just a little bit too much to the left, and score a hit on the armor of his arm. The other laser is even wider off to the left, a twitch in the myomer muscles preventing an accurate shot. You curse, heat spiking in the cockpit as your fusion reactor surges to meet the energy demands of the lasers.

The Lancelot pilot obviously had the same sort of “fuck it” reaction, firing all of his weaponry at you, and combining that with his already damaged engine shielding, he's probably spiked his heat levels even higher than yours. One laser slags a half-ton of armor off the front of the Sha Yu's central torso, while the other one barely misses you, and you blink at the bright discharge from the PPC as it sails over your 'Mech's head, just barely.

Yeah. Leaving the stealth system on was definitely a good idea. You shudder at the thought of all those weapons hitting your poor little 'Mech at once.

That'd be bad times.

Speaking of bad times, you check your status readout with one quick flick of your eyes. The center torso is no longer bright green, but a dull yellow. Everything else is mostly fine, but the sweat that stings your eyes tells you that you might have pushed the heat a little far.

And then your eyes sweep over your sensor readout. “'Mech powerup detected,” Bitchin' Betty says, calmly.

God DAMN it, where are they all coming from?
>>
>>35968020

So we're heating up. That means that at 10 extra heat, we go 5/8/0. Not good, but at his extra 16 heat, he goes 4/6/4.

The problem here is that we can't really kill the Lancelot real quick since we can't do called shots to the exposed torso with the XL engine, and his weaponry is threatening enough so that an engagement with him could result in our 'mech getting shot up real bad.

If we want to kill him really quick, we may be able to retreat further South, and lure him near the fuel tanks. We shoot those, and they blow up, dealing some damage to him. Then Eighty pops up out of the water and starts doing his mechwarrior-autist thing and unloads into the Lancelot's rear.

The problem here is that if we reveal Eighty's presence, there might be more Capellan forces dispatched to take care of this. Even more so if we blow up fuel tanks. But if we don't kill the Lancelot quickly, then he'll kill Andre pretty easily in that Urbanmech.
>>
>>35968183
The rule is that the first point of damage increases heat build up by 5 points per turn.
>>

Warhammer takes 1 damage to Rolled 6, 6 = 12 (2d6) Head!

Pilot of Warhammer Stian Hagensen requires a 4+ to avoid falling 'Mechwarrior damage, rolled 6, 2 = 8 avoids!

Stien Hagensen takes 1 damage from hit to head. Stien Hagensen must make 3+ to remain conscious, rolled 1, 4 = 5 succeeds!

in which sneakiness fails miserably
>>
>>35968815
So their new guy just was sneaky as a brick? yay!
>>
>>35968815
Yeeessss
>>
>>35968869

On the other hand, the guy driving the Warhammer has a piloting base score of 3.

That means that he's either pretty good at driving 'mechs, or he's a 2-Gunnery // 3-piloting dude, making him an elite pilot. Which is bad news for us. We're lucky that his 'mech is only a little tougher than Eighty's.

File deleted.
You push your overheated 'Mech forward, doing your best to get into some wooded cover. As you're doing that, a decorative pool ahead of you thrashes up some waves. Curious. You toggle your magscan and...

Holy shit they've got a Warhammer in that pool.

You wrench the Sha Yu to the side, diving for the woods surrounding the lake's park. “Eighty!” you shout over the radio. “I could use a little help!”

You get an acknowledging grunt, and you know Eighty's on his way.

Now, the question is, do you have what it takes to take on two heavy 'Mechs with a pair of mediums?

And where the hell is Andre?

You're now Andre Meilleur, and you are getting really sick and tired of this subway system's shit. You can hear the sounds of 'Mech combat above you somewhere, but the nature of the subway system precludes you from hearing exactly where. You COULD just flick on your magscan and see if you could figure out where shit's going down, but no. Oh, no. It's gotta be broken. Fucking thing.

You and the doctor trudge along at the Urbanmech's top speed of “not fast at all”, hoping to get to the fight before it's over.

Maybe you'll just Kool-Aid man through a goddamn wall.

Shouldn't there be three breach checks instead of one since breaches disable a location?

Rolled 5, 5, 6, 2 = 18 (4d6)

>>35969113
You would be correct, I totally forgot that. I am pretty shitfaced right now, so let me roll two more breach checks, for, in order, the torso and the head.
>>
>>35969145
aaaaaaaand he breaches his right torso. There goes half his weaponry.

Goddamnit. I JUST WANT TO MAKE YOU GUYS ALL DIE, CAN MY MERC UNIT BE LESS USELESS
>>
>>35969178

Look on the bright side, at least the whammy's head didn't breach, right?
>>
>>35969178
in a word yes. That Anubis could try to shoot and tk his own guys.
>>
>>35969215
I was half expecting to look at that warhammer's stats and see an XL engine.

Thank God that's not the case.

No, google, no they are not.

ANYWAY I'm going to call this thread for tonight, apparently Motoko is touched by the RNG gods, and suffers never a failure.

Whereas everybody around her gets hit comically and often.

We're not getting Andre out alive, are we?
>>
TWITTER FOR THIS AWFUL QUEST IS @BV_470, FOLLOW IT FOR LIKE AN HOUR'S WARNING ON QUEST TIMES

EXPECT MORE DETROIT QUEST ON THURSDAY OR FRIDAY.

JESUS CHRIST PLS DIE MOTOKO

PLS
>>
>>35969252

I was kinda looking forward to everyone slipping on pavement and going unconscious.

Then when they all come to, they just quietly part ways and agree to never mention this incident to anyone ever again.
>>
>>35969252

With the way we're rolling there is no way he's gonna die. We're the best mech unit in the world
>>
>>35969270

Why do you hate her so?
>>
>>35969252

Hellstars! Hellstars and Riflemen IICs and Nova Cat-A/Nova Cat-F everywhere!
>>
>>35969270
She oriental in a non oriental setting. Look at Mikasa of Shingeki No Kyojin for how well that turns out. Thanks for running Rabbit. We'll be getting Andre out of your hair soon.
>>
So, so like, was this supposed to be an intro as side characters who die and then we get introduced to the real main characters? Because I'm digging this as it is. Wyrmgroup is awesome.

....were....were we supposed to be the mercs? If we were this just became priceless.
>>
>>35969311
I DON'T

I JUST WANT WANTON PC DEATH AND DESTRUCTION

REMEMBER THAT TIME YOUR SUBMARINE GOT BOMBARDED FROM ORBIT? I REMEMBER THAT TIME. IT WAS GREAT.

I JUST WANT TO SEE QUEST READERS SUFFER. IS THAT SO WRONG?
>>
>>35969340

The failure only happens to Andre, and only in a way that is hilarious. Motoko can't be stopped
>>
>>35969328
KINDA SORTA

BUT NO, NO. MOTOKO IS DEATHLESS AND IMMORTAL.

ANYWAY NO THINK OF THE MERCS AS LIKE... UH, THE GINYU FORCE OR SOMETHING, EXCEPT THEY'LL BE A PART OF THE PLOT THE WHOLE TIME

UNLESS THEY DIE

WHICH IS EMINENTLY POSSIBLE, I WAS REAL CLOSE TO CALLING THE HEAD FOR THE FIRST BREACH CHECK

EXCEPT I WAS KIND OF HOPING FOR AT LEAST SOME SEMBLANCE OF COMPETENCE FROM THESE TWO (I did not expect competence from the Anubis and Charger pilot at all).
>>
>>35969387
Weren't there five ginyu force members? Was Urbie dude the fifth?

>>

Phobos isn't canon!

It didn't even progress beyond introtech levels!

God I miss that quest.
>>
>>35969492
CANON ENOUGH FOR ME

also I miss that quest too

it was great
>>
>>35969492
But it deserves to be used, if MEQ had gone on and Anontech had not been so cruelly taken away from us as a QM, may he lurk anon, the Phobos would have been a staple in the CapCon and possibly other powers besides by now

and screaming jumpjets would probably be some sort of war crime and noise violation

And if you get off on it so much you can writeup the bad ends at the end of a thread and make them non-canon
