Previously, you met with the two deities of Lymarck, Arden and Lillian. Showing your magical prowess, you blasted a few soldiers off to kingdom come. Lillian, impressed with your feats, has joined you. Arden... not so much. Along with Sandra, your ever-faithful vassal, and Lillian, your newest follower, you headed toward Arkad to go investigate the nation. You managed to successfully eavesdrop on a conversation between Anya, Arkad's deity, and a man with a mask and sword.

Right now, you have to deal with Sandra, who at this moment is furious at you.

“Sandraaaaaa,” you plead.

“Explain. Now.” Sandra is less than pleased. She's currently pinning you down, her foot planted firmly on the collar of your robe.

“Okay, I will!” you agree to her demands. “Please let me go~”

She harumphs, removing her foot from your person.

“I overheard Anya talking to someone. And if you didn't see, she barreled straight through the door, choke-slamming a man in a mask.”

“Hrmmm,” your vassal contemplates. “Truth be told, I didn't see anything when you pushed me away.” She suspiciously eyes you. “So... what did she say?”

“I didn't hear the specifics, but it sounded like she was fighting with someone. And... something else.”

“Something else?” asks Sandra.

Anya's words echo through your mind, each word strained with ire. 'You think I like killing everyone? Hearing their cries for mercy?'

“Yeah,” you reply back to your vassal. “Something that makes me believe that Anya isn't just a bloodthirsty battle freak that hates me.”

Sandra's look softens, sighing. “Well, in any case, you might as well apologize to Lillian. She's all shaken up.”

Hmm?

Lillian's all red, clasping her hands close to her chest.

“Um. Lillian,” you wave, trying to get her attention. “Sorry about that. Instinct kicked in the moment I heard Anya's voice and I just kinda reacted without thinking.”

She takes a breath of air. “I-It's fine! It's just that... that was the first time being so intimate with a man.” Lillian starts blushing furiously again.

Sandra gives her a flat gaze. “An unexpectedly innocent maiden so pure it's blinding.” You open your mouth to say something, but Sandra cuts you off crossly. “No, you can't say that. She's not a human so that doesn't apply here.”

...Humans.

Now that your followers have calmed down, what should you do?

>Keep exploring. Anya should be gone by now.

Welp. Now that you have a clue, you might as well put it to good use. Who is this “Halcyon”? It's not that much of a lead, but it's much better than nothing. “Sandra, Lillian,” you call for your followers. “It's time to investigate. Something about a Halcyon.”

Lillian mulls over the word. “Halcyon? I recall the name. I can't seem to remember what Halcyon was, though. Sorry about that.”

“It's fine,” you shrug. “We're kinda grasping at straws here.”

“Well, we're not going to find anything else by standing around,” Sandra flatly states. “We have work to do.”

“Then let's get to it.” The city has a murky atmosphere – the streets are filled with trash and other disposables and the buildings are run down and... homely, to put it nicely.

Frustrated shouts from a back alley draw your attention. Two men are screaming at a pink-haired girl. Her hands are bound by chain, clinking helplessly as she frantically makes hand gestures at the men.

“Seriously, why are you so useless!” The first man shouts. “No one will take you in. Just hurry up and get sold already, you dumb cunt!”

Arkad has its own problems, you see. Never did you hear swearing until you left the countryside. Though, you only know Ffion and Lymarck so that might not be an accurate representation.

“I can't help it. They just don't like me!”

“It doesn't help that you called them 'pompous assholes' right in front of them,” the other man angrily grumbles.

“A good slave never lies!”

“You are a god damn headache. A good slave takes beatings too.”

“Again? I'm still a bit sore from last time~”

“This is why nobody will ever buy you, you shit.”

Though this is in the back alley, it's all in plain view. The citizens of the town definitely notice, but walk on by as if nothing is happening.

>Well, you're not a citizen. Blow them away.

Sandra shivers. “Oh, something absolutely stupid is going to happen again.”

Lillian shakes your vassal's shoulder. “How do you know?”

“Just a feeling,” she mumbles.

You'd rather not flaunt your magical powers for everybody to see in broad daylight. Even more so when you're in the middle of an enemy city. Especially if Anya catches wind of this and comes running to murderize you. So you compromise, just a bit.

“Hey,” you flash a fake smile at the men. “I couldn't help but overhear that you have a product to sell!”

The two men instantly turn, grinning from ear to ear. They murmur something about the gods smiling upon them.

Well, you are. But you're frowning on the inside.

“Well, you're just in luck! She's cute, she's honest, and she can do most labor! I'll let you take her for 200.”

“200 what?” you question.

“Of these,” he vaguely mentions, rubbing his two fingers together.

What, oily fingers?

> 21 – 10 = 11/100 BP

But just then, two audible voices from above the building echo through the cramped alley. They seem hushed and panicky. “Just get it out of here right now. They're onto us~!”

“Uh, okay. But it's–”

“Just throw 'em already!”

A yellow object hits the side of your head. A gold coin. And then you're showered with them, almost drowning. Climbing out of the small pile, you say to the men, “Will this be enough?”

They're dumbstruck. Nodding blankly, they shove the pink-haired girl towards you, throw you a key, and immediately scramble for the coins.

Sandra, still standing in the street, raises an eyebrow at Lillian with a look that says, “I told you so.”

You hurry and usher the girl into the street, leaving the men to gather the money for themselves. You keep moving for five minutes until you're in the clear. “Okay. Well. That was fun, but you're free to go. Have a nice life.”

Right as you turn to speak to Sandra, she attaches herself to your side, chirping, “Master!”

Sandra blinks. “...What in the world?”

“Master~ Master~ what will you have me do?”

Your vassal's busy trying to pry this woman, apparently called Yuna, off of you. You helplessly try and break free of her clutches.

“Hey,” Sandra desperately tries to reason with her. “You understand that you ARE free, right?”

“Hurray!” she giggles, still clinging to your side.

“...Meaning that you are free to leave,” Sandra wistfully clarifies.

“So... what's your point?” Yuna tilts her head quizzically.

“Leave.” Sandra finally blurts out irritably.

“If I leave, they'll almost certainly kill me.” She winces. “Unless... that's what you want.”

Sandra, utterly defeated, rests herself on Lillian's shoulders. “Okay. Whatever. I'm done.”

“Master,” she crows. “What is it do you want?”

“I'm not your master,” you sigh. “But for starters, do you know of Halcyon?”

“Everyone knows him!” she exclaims. “But enough about him, tell me more about you~”

“Err, I really need to know more about Halcyon. Please.”

“Of course! Anything for you!” She bounces up and down, making her shackles clink together. Oh, right. You unlock her chains with the key you received, unbinding her hands and feet. “Halcyon's the king of this place. Not just this city, but this entire nation! He's a pretty powerful guy. And the worst thing is? He's a big, fat asshole. Gonna kill everybody up north. I heard about it from those two bozos.”

“They work for him?” you ask incredulously.

“Of course! How else will the 'great Arkad' make its money?” She flicks her tongue. “All's fair in war and war.”

“Don't you mean 'love and war'?” Lillian pitches in, still letting Sandra lean on her.

“No?” replies Yuna. “Since when is love fair?”

Well. That's some more information you got. But what to do about this girl?

Eh. Might as well take her in. It's not like she has anywhere else to go.

“Hmm, Yuna,” you direct your attention towards the pink-haired girl.

“Yes? Yeees~? What is it, Master?” she excitedly responds, eagerly awaiting orders. She's... kinda like a dog.

“Looks like you're stuck with us for a while.”

“Awwwh yey!” She cheers, throwing her arms up. “Praise the gods for a great Master!”

“...Right,” you frown. “I don't like the idea of owning a slave or being a master.”

“I don't get it,” Yuna gives you an inquiring look. “Do you not like a person devoted to you?”

“I don't like the fact that I brought your devotion.” You shake your head.

“But you can't buy devotion.” Yuna stares right at you. “Not for all the money in the world.”

You... don't get it. “I'm confused. So what are you saying?”

“That's simple! When you're offered unconditional freedom by a benevolent man, would you not be devoted? You can even bind me up and tie the knots up extra tight~! I'd only do that for you, Master~”

“She's a freaaaak,” Sandra monotones.

The search for clues is a slow one. You've figured out that Halcyon is the king. And what? There's still the army to deal with. Anya too. Especially Anya. And now you have one extra person to take care of. Your group is steadily becoming larger, thus making you a hell of a lot more conspicuous. Still. You haven't been caught yet, which is a relief.

You have enough money falling out of your robes to purchase your group some food, so you do. It's time for a break.

“So~” Yuna clamors for your attention in between bites. “How'd you do that thing with the money anyway? Are you a con-man? A mage?” She eyes Lillian and Sandra. “Or...”

“He's a god,” interrupts Sandra. She returns to her soup, saying no more.

“A good one too,” Lillian adds. “He helped out Lymarck in our time of need.”

Yuna fist-pumps. “Wao~ I really hit the jackpot, didn't I?”

The sound of thick, wooden sandals clacking makes you turn your head. A man with a sword sheathed around his belt enters the building. “Table for one, please!” he shouts, removing his mask.

A mask?

And the waiters seat him at the table right next to you.

“Hey,” you articulate, waving to the man. “Fancy meeting you here.”

The man hesitates, pinching his spoon. “Oh? You're right. It is.” He graciously smiles, putting down his utensil. “Thank you for earlier.”

“Don't mention it.” You can't get a good read on him. You could try using your powers, but multitasking was never your strong suit. Right now, you'll just make some conversation.

“Eating with your family?” He innocently asks.

“Something like that, yeah,” you dismiss the question. “I never got your name, by the way.”

“Rolan.” He takes a spoonful of broth to his mouth. “Yours?”

“Vala,” you immediately reply. Uh. Crap. Maybe you should have thought about your answer first.

“A nice name.” Rolan goes back to drinking his broth. He seems to not know who you are.

“Scuse meee~” Yuna's voice rings from the side of the table. “I need to borrow him for a moment! I'll give him back in just a sec.” She motions for you to follow her. Confused, you go along with Yuna. She pulls you into a desolate corner behind the restaurant.

“Err. Yes?” you ask, bewildered.

“You know Sir Rolan!?” she cries.

“Is he special?”

“The special-est!” she emphasizes. “Everybody knows him. He's the commanding officer of the biiiiiig army!”

“Oh.” Well then. “All I did was pick up his mask when he got run over by Anya–”

“You know Anya, too?” She pretends to faint, picking herself back up in place. “You really are a god!”

“We should probably head back in,” you say, deflecting her praise. You're not entirely sure whether Yuna figured out that you aren't necessarily on Arkad's side.

Now's just the matter of Rolan.

Rolan
>Magics – 1
>Strength – 6

You settle yourself down into your chair, watching Yuna squeeze through the girls to get to her own seat. Tapping into your intuition, you let the knowledge come to you.

He's a natural swordsman, and how. But you can't pinpoint what he's feeling right now. Any other detail comes jumbled and fragmented. You stop yourself from prying too much. It's taking up too much concentration right now.

Guess you'll have to do it the old fashioned way.

“Rolan,” you lean back comfortably into your chair. “I'd like to ask what exactly happened back when I first met you?” You try and be vague as possible to let him fill in the details.

“I got into an argument with her. She's a deity, y'know. Girl's the type to take things too seriously and we didn't agree on some ideas. So... she thrashed me.” He taps his mask on the table. “That's basically it.”

Well, it's true. But he didn't give any specifics. Not that he would've disclosed it – it seemed to be about the war between Arkad and its rebels.

The doors clatter open. And lo and behold, Anya.

Wait... crap.

You, Rolan, and your followers are all speechless.

“Rolan. I know you're here. I'm not very happy about wha—wha... what.” She casts her eyes on you. “Why are you here?” she asks, dropping her frustrated tone. Rather, she adopts one of pure malice.

“Shit,” Rolan mutters under his breath.

“I've come to investigate.” You stiffly say. “I don't mean any harm. I'm just figuring out—”

She ignores you. “But what a coincidence. Because I, Anya, do hereby challenge you to an Arkadian duel.”

“...Huh.” You're dumbfounded.

“Rematch,” she utters lowly. “Meet at the Arkadian Arena in one hour. Don't think about escaping, now that I know that you're here.” Anya glowers at Rolan. “Get over here.”

He clenches his fists, but he bows his head and follows her out, mumbling something quiet to Anya.

Yuna is the first one to break the silence. “Could be worse.”

“...What's an Arkadian duel?”

You had an hour to figure out what an Arkadian duel was. You didn't think it was a lot of paperwork.

“Didya get the paperwork done?” Yuna asks.

“Uh, yeah, I think so.” A large pile of papers are stack on top of each other, ready to be submitted to the authorities at the arena.

“Oh!” You have a sudden bout of realization. “I understand it now. How odd that we're doing something so conventional by human sta–”

“Yes, yes,” your vassal replies. “We're out of time.”

You're pushed into the arena. It's rather small, which will make it hard for you to use your wide ranged magic. Still. You're not at a disadvantage. Anya fights rather fair, apparently.

A large crowd has gathered for the spectacle. Probably because of Anya.

“Are you ready?” she asks, more of a statement than a question.

“So let me get this straight. Both people register their intent with the law. There is a large gathering at a public building to celebrate the matter. It only ends when one of the people in the agreement dies.”

“Those are the terms, yes.” Anya looks impatient, waiting to strike.

“Very well! I accept your challenge of marriage?”

Anya drops her sword. The entire crowd goes mute.

“Uh. Am I mistaken? Those are the terms, right?”

“So very close, Vala,” calls out Sandra from the sidelines. “But so very wrong.”

Anya, wordlessly angry, initiates the first hit.

She rushes in on the first hit, but you've prepared yourself for that. Taking a quick slice, Anya goes for your shoulder. You blast her with a torrent of fire, spewing inferno to force her to keep her distance.

You rip through the arena's flooring, breaking the ground beneath Anya. She uses the breaking earth to jump off splintering rocks, launching herself into attack range. The blade of the sword misses, but a sharp current of air nicks your left arm. The cut isn't enough for you to start bleeding, but it's alarming nonetheless.

She takes a defensive stance, holding her ground for now. Definitely waiting for you to make your next cast.

You try your hand at cast faster spells, rotating between fire, lightning, and air. Anya steps forward, disappearing from your sight. It seems to be something akin to a short teleport. Nevertheless, wait until she rematerializes before you shoot her with a blast of lightning. The arc of lightning strikes her shield, but Anya's relatively unaffected, still dashing forward, arcing her sword back for a heavy slash.

The blade sinks in cleanly, gouging the side of your arm. The blood spatter clouds your vision, but you manage to throw out a nova of wind to prevent her from inflicting further injury. She takes her defensive stance again.

Planting your feet down, you disengage from your physical self, and tap into the Wish Current. The wishes and thoughts of believers flood into you, imbuing you with spiritual force. You return to the physical plane, soul alight with aether.

She remains still, anticipating your next move.

You cast, but you keep your eyes level with hers, pretending that you're playing on the defensive as well. You need some more time to charge your next spell.

Hesitant to enter your area, Anya circles around you, measuring her distance carefully. But that's exactly what you want.

And then she gets it. Realizing that you're gathering energy for your next spell, she rushes in for a free strike.

But it's much too late.

The skies darken, granting temporary night in the arena. You unleash a torrent of random angle blasts, shooting seven per second in the general direction of her. You throw out orbs that create a crescent-shaped arc of lightning around the arena.

Anya, mid-dash, is unable to dodge the storm of magical bursts and lightning blasts, taking the brunt of the attack head-on.

Her armor is heavily damaged, and Anya herself is wounded. Some blood drips from her forehead, while burn marks and bruises line the rest of her body.

Your pain from your wound pulses across your body, but you can handle the waves of agony for now.

Anya has a more balanced position, thrusting her shield forward with her sword drawn behind it. But she's heavily leaning on her right foot.

“Do you really think that you can win?”asks Anya. Her shield hums, glinting an ethereal white in the dull light in the arena. “You, who thinks that battle is to be toyed with. This is MY arena. I kill to protect and unify.”

You silently draw on your inner wish powers, consuming every drop of spiritual power you have available. You'll worry about the consequences later. “But do you have to kill? Why can you not protect by stopping this?”

“Do you not see?” She takes a few steps forward, refusing to show any weakness on her left side. “You only make it worse. This is my home. This is my life. And yet the rebels do not return to us.”

“I wonder, though.” You give her an apologetic look. “If your kingdom will really spare them. If they secede, they why not the rest of the conquered populace? The slaves? The lesser-folk?”

She quivers, breathing sharply. “...I'm sorry.”

Then she re-brandishes her blade.

You engage, throwing out a few minor bolts of energy, forcing Anya to dodge left and right rather than advancing forward.

Moving onto intermediate level spells, you send a ripple of air through the arena, pushing Anya back. Her left side falters, making her lose her position. Seizing the opportunity, you move on to advanced artes.

Anya regains her balance, wasting no time to dash forward while you're open. Rolling back, you slam on the ground, sprouting a line of trees to block her path. She smashes them, stampeding through with her shield. The very base of the tree splinters, crackling in its destruction. And she disappears once again. This time, she goes for the stab, relocating in front of you.

But you move right. Her left side's badly hurt, so she doesn't have her full range to get a decisive hit. But it's a hit nonetheless. The sword sinks straight into your left shoulder, rekindling the sparks of the pain in your entire body. You move forward, allowing the blade to sink further into your wound.

A point-blank shot.

You release a slow, drifting shot. It flies no more than one meter before touching Anya, enveloping the entire arena in a shimmering light.

Anya, restored and healed, slumps to the floor. You, on the other hand, are still a god damn bloody mess. Through pursed lips, she quietly asks you.

“Why? Why did you spare me again?” The tears from her eyes overflow, causing her to wipe them away. But they don't stop. “Do you hate me so much that you can't bear to even kill me?”

You grit your teeth. The pain is excruciating, pounding through every fiber of your body. “No. It's called mercy. I'd like to bestow you this gift of clemency.”

“I—no...” she murmurs. When she cries, there's a faint trembling of her shoulders. Anya reaches for the support of her shield, hiding behind her material defenses. Her body wracks with heaving sobs.

I dunno. I'm not quite sure how to end this far beyond mass mind-control. We just aren't in the position to do it, even with one miracle.

We would need to change the minds of an entire nation, as well as any they've attacked. Saving each and every slave cleanly would already take up most of the miracle.

We could completely close off Arkad from other nations, but the reason they're conquering is probably due to a lack of resources, so we would only be sentencing them to death.

Look at it this way, at least we made it really easy for their external enemies to crush them and their internal disaffected to rise up and over throw the established order. I'd say we've given them about two month of internal struggle and maybe a 35% chance of getting outright ganked by the other regional powers. No matter what their economy's about to take a huge fucking hit, so the usual surge in poverty, malnutrition etc. ought to be on the horizon. The elites and emperor probably still have more than enough personal power an resources to whether the storm though, so a lot of people are going to die and it's going to be a mess here for 5 years to maybe 2 generations, but still a pretty good chance of Arkad pulling through and being hardened by the experience.

The ruling class has magic and/or very high strength stats. I think they, and those who find the status quo convenient, can make do without weapons against an unruly mob. Gonna be a blood bath, gonna be fairly one sided at first.

Or there'll be a military coup to "maintain security and stability in our great nation." Goes that way fairly often as well.

The Goddess Mana calls you forth.

You feel rather despondent about the current situation. What should you do? Not many know. Being a deity is hard. Though, you would never disclose this to anybody, only to those in the Wish Current.

A divine congregation of ethereal fae shines through the bleakness. You rejoin the Wish Current, only to emerge once again in the physical world. Though your wounds are still there, you are replenished with a new energy. Your wounds, already scars, begin to dissipate. The sword stuck in your shoulder clatters to the ground as you rematerialize.

And you are righteous. Weapons are but tools for war, right? Then why not destroy each and every weapon in Arkad?

The sword chips into smaller shards, eventually crumbling into fragments. Various crowd members start to announce their confusion. Confusion turns into shouts of panic as their weapons disintegrate into infinitesimal grains of sand. The weapons all disappear into nothingness. The arena itself dismantles into nothingness, capsizing in grandeur of of a sinking ship.

Each and every shackle of the bindings of slaves click free, releasing them from their imprisonment.

And it is complete pandemonium.

“Vala,” Sandra comes out of the crumbling remains of the arena. “What did you do?”

“Hopefully,” you darkly mutter, “I helped.”

“Did you err?” Lillian asks patiently.

“I compromised,” you sigh.

We destroyed them. We are a dark and terrible god indeed.
>>
>>36009323
oh. Here we go. Can't even do damage control, since I gotta go. Can't WAIT to see what happens in a few hours.
>>
>>36009323
"There are no more weapons in the city. Riders should be sent out to the main army that it needs to pull back, as the strategic reserve in the capital is now gone. If you assemble the guards quickly, Anya, you can prevent a full-scale riot from mobbing the disarmed upper class. Of course, this means you'd have to break the terms of the duel..."
>>
Death lots and lots of death. Slave revolts, rebellion, invasion. Only took use five threads to destroy a country. Gods are dicks.
>>
>>36009384
And yes, this is me, the same guy who came up with the idea to remove all weapons.

This, right here, was my plan for it. Force her to have more pressing concerns than an honor duel.
>>
>>36009413
I think they've earned it.
>>
>>36009359
Eh, the streets will run red with the blood of sinners and innocents. The usual. But on the up side, since this is an externally imposed event the odds of the population rejecting our message of peace and coming at us later, probably with the help of the rebels who are much more likely to put down their weapons to save their countrymen than continue in their armed opposition. I wonder how they'll invade a sky island though?
>>
You know, the whole "no weapons" thing seems a bit more pointless when magic exists.
>>
>>36009440
I can't imagine they'd even want to try after what we've just done.
>>
>>36009384
Do you honestly stink that you haven't just condemned her to killing the insurgent elements in her city? Have you not seen the lengths she's gone to, the horrors she's born, to maintain Arkad thus far? Do you honestly think she's capable of making that choice?

No. She'll kill the city to save the empire. Amputate the rot to save the whole.
>>
>>36009464
Doesn't it? Well, at least the slave riots ought to deny them their main source of menial labor. Though I suppose that means they'll need new slaves to replace the dead, so more war. Man this turn of events is depressing.
>>
>>36009494
But the ruling party is still there. If the riots prevent the royal family from leaving the city, then an enemy army rushing in would kill everyone of import. The army would fall into disarray...which might leave her in a position to take command.

we might have just fucked ourselves. Correction, I might have just fucked us all.
>>
>>36009494
Then very shorlty she'll take a massive hit to her bp and Minerva will be able to negate her on the field completely.

>>36009464
>>36009542
Sadly I think we'd need to have a wish int f 10 and a 1000 bp to really fix this, anything less would be at best a stopgap.
>>
I guess this just means we're going to have to tell the rebels to fuck off when they try to invade.

Seems like this might be an alright way to force peace of we swing it right.
>>
>>36009489
What choice do they have? We just declared ourself an existential threat to them. You can't just let those go running around cause one day they will decide to wipe you from the face of the earth.
>>
>>36009576
But what makes you think that the rebels are opposed by the public?
>>
>>36009553
>I might have just fucked all of us.

Probably not, I mean, we aren't even the god of this place. All you did is create a giant power vacuum that we personally are more or less ineligible to fill, but that's just the perfect shape for a seriously strong god to grow from. And these people are probably going to be pissed with us for a few generations, so yeah, sky islands probably can fall.
>>
>>36009576
Current rebels just want to be left alone and have their freedom. Rebels in other parts of Arkad will cause bloodshed. Arkad will shatter into a bunch of different pieces.
>>
>>36009609
Because the public is a little worried about the other wars of annexation Arkad's currently fighting, and those rebel's are attacking the homeland while it's in a state of crisis? That's more or less their attitude before we go and create this mess.
>>
>>36009669
Meaning lots of lesser gods to distract Anya from us.While she's bringing them to heel we can get our own pantheon up and running for next time.
>>
>>36009323
Dear Anya, please have the strength to undo our folly and stop the horror we have unleashed upon your people. Amen.

The ruins of Arkad are a sight to see. Well. Though they're not ruins, the empirical buildings that towered over the rest of the non-military junctures have crumbled to pieces.

Without weapons, Halcyon and the royalty were quickly deposed and taken to custody. Rolan, who was reportedly a support of the rebel nation, informed the monarchy's opposition. The rebels, seizing this opportunity, overturned the government and quickly redistributed power to its respective nations. The nations, weak as they are, decided to unite and create a more democratic system of many states.

The large kingdom of Arkad is but the large nation of Arkadia now.

Minerva, now the Deity of Arkadia, smiles cheerily at you.

“How are things?” you ask.

“We're getting by.” Minerva fiddles with her hair. “I must say, it's surprisingly hard to get people to vote on anything. Not that it matters to me.”

“Huma—” You stop yourself. “Sounds like progress to me.”

“Sure. We've taken up agriculture, too. We're doing okay enough. Still might need some help.”

“And Anya?”

Minerva flounders about a little. “Good.”

“Can you tell her I'm sorry?”

She hesitates. “...Sure. Tell Sandra I said hello.”

“I will.”

...did we just end the quest?
>>
>>36009750
Oh, we hamstrung them instead of creating a monster. That went much better than expected. Kind of surprised by the lack of ethnic and geographic in fighting since clearly some of these nations are self sufficient and it sounds like their federal government is fairly weak, but eh, whatever.
>>
>>36009806
I will be so pissed.
>>
>>36009750
~handwave everything is okay. Also they had cities without agriculture what the fuck.
>>
>>36009806
Looks like. Or this branch of it anyway.

We will never see Anya again, since she no longer has a sword to stab us with.
>>
>>36009836
Other nations were already bloodied from warring with Arkad. They saw an oppurtunity for peace and took it.
>>
>>36009875

>cities without agriculture

Pastoral costal communities with heavy imports of edible plants because of inferior soil? Nah, they probably just previously used magic for food production and send any able bodied youth into the army. Now that they're not a conquest based economy they needed to find some way to cheaply employ people, so the previously automated agriculture system goes manual.
>>
>>36009900
Sounds like she's still in a corner crying over the slow death of her beloved city/empire, not like she's ready to tear us into tiny fleshed chunks of dead god.

Lymarck has been relatively peaceful. Lillian returned back to the village with open arms from Arden. They shared a moment of tears together, one that made you really uncomfortable to stand around.

Ffion Isles is relatively unchanged. The villages are peaceful and the community is sustainable. Not too shabby.

“Vala.” Sandra calls out, tidying up the temple. “What does it mean to be a god?”

“Many wives,” Yuna chips in. She's busy occupying the cot.

Ignoring Yuna's remark, you retort, “I'll tell you once you answer what it means to be human.”

“...I can't answer that properly,” Sandra laments.

“Good. Because there's no proper answer.” You throw yourself on the couch.

“Beware, mortals,” Sandra sardonically grumbles. “This is the face of a deity who demolished an entire nation.”

You shrug. “Gods, right?”

“...Gods,” Sandra shakes her head in defeat.
>>
>>36009962
Here's hoping, her going destroyer of worlds on us would be a b*tch especially since Minerve is so busy she wouldn't see it coming in time.
>>
>>36009902
It was comedy slice of life the first couple of threads. I was content to just chill with our cute follower. Then we get dropped into the middle of a war zone and had harem shit thrown at us one after the other with no real characterization for the girls. OP moved way too fast and we were just along for the ride most of the time. This quest is pretty much over in my eyes.
>>
End of the first chapter!
It's not over. Even if you desperately want it to be.

Now's the time to bombard me with your questions and comments and complaints about what happened in Arkad.
>>
>>36010058
did we just get harem end?
>>
>>36010058
Did you really expect it to end so eloquently?
>>
>>36010030
While I wouldn't go that far, you have a point.

OP. Slow down. Develop the characters more. You did that in the beginning, now we have two new companions we barely know and just took down a nation. First 3 threads were wonderful. Last two were sub-par. Please slow down.
>>
>>36010058
I'm still enjoying it thoroughly. Just keep doing what you want to do, you seem to have an idea of where you're going and I like it.
>>
>>36010087
This, it feels kind of like you rushed it. What's the hurry man?
>>
>>36010058
So how peacefully is it really in Arkadia? What happened to the last generations of gods? Will Lillian be coming back or will she and Arden just do their own thing til they get threatened again? Will we have time to explore other areas on the map? Will the other demi nations of Arkadia get their own less deities? What will happen to Anya?
>>
>>36010058
While I totally agree with what we sid, I hope it didn't derail your plans for this story too badly.
>>
>>36010058
How likely is it for civil tension/unrest/war coming back at a later time in Arkadia?
>>
>>36010058
Honestly: the only thing I can think of is a quote "Not with a bang, but with a whimper"
Serious anticlimax probably need to slow things down more.
>>36010087
Well that, and the other gods that we could possibly recruit into our pantheon seem to have been suddenly lost. I mean heck, I would have been EASY for us to have Ffion isles join this democratic league or whatever, making us the head deity, but we can't because you skipped over that decision in a paragraph before we knew what was happening.

Of course. No.

>>36010087
>>36010115
>>36010100
Admittedly, I'm newer to QMing and let the rails fly off the tracks. I let rolls and /tg/ dictate a lot of the story.
>>
>>36010058
If instead of brute forcing the social upheaval we'd actually just talked to Anya could we have gotten her to come around and avoided the messiest parts of what we did to castrate Arkad?
>>
*Wouldn't mind rewinding time and slowing down, just chilling in Ffion*
>>
>>36010163
yeah, having more moments to choose our next move might make things more fun
>>
>>36010176
How many BP would it take to create a new deity to serve a specific roll? Because both Minerva and Anya seem too forthright to make decent politicians and it sounds like that's what Arkadia needs if it wants to survive.
>>
>>36010176
>I let rolls and /tg/ dictate a lot of the story.

If you let us romp free we'll just tear up the universe you created without any real sense of doing anything. Guide us a little.

For instance, I would have liked teaming up with Roland, shenanigans, starting a rebel faction in the city, taking down Halcyon, more shenanigans, etc etc. And feel free to slap our shit when rolls get too good, you can't have us do exceedingly well all the time, no sense of effort.
>>
>>36010058
Slow the hell down. This stuff should have happened in like thread 10 or 15 at the earliest. Develop the characters. You threw a bunch at us without giving them any real depth or time to develop. More player choice would be nice, often times it seems like we are just along for the ride. The straight into a duel was bad. We didn't even get a chance to talk to Anya. You are also married to the anime tropes a bit too much. Also our major actions need consequences both good and bad.
>>
>>36010176
Did Minerva end up joining us like she said she would?
>>
>>36010130
Arcadia has its ups and downs, but is relatively peaceful. The last generation of gods will be the same as the next chapter. Lillian is still in your follower group. She returned to Lymarck because that's where she has her shrine. More map choices will be available next time, as well as revisiting old areas.

>Anya
Still relevant to the next chapter.

>>36010179
Yes, you could have talked to Anya, but it would also involve a lot of bloodshed in the interim between these talks. The monarchy would have still been an issue.

Noted.

>>36010269
No. Arcadia made things too busy for her. Not that she wouldn't be compliant.
>>
You may want to consider retconning to after thread 3 and fleshing out the story a bit.
>>
>>36010264
If there's a penality for dice then why bother having it?
>>
>>36010294
I disagree with the retcon, I do agree with flashback episode
>>
>>36010294
Yes so /tg/ and mess things up all over again, We might as well just deal with this and move on. Otherwise we'll never get anywhere.
>>
>>36010294
Honestly, the only thing which Might need a retcon are the last two posts where a TON of decisions happened on autopilot. I mean, we turned down a golden opportunity to become the head diety of a superpower without consulting the players. Even if /tg/ would say no in the end, that's the sorta thing you really have to ask your players.
>>
Retconfags are the worst.
>>
>>36010301
I didn't like how our destroying Arkad was wrapped up nice and neat in a little epilogue without us having to deal with the fallout. We also had no hand in helping to shape post-swordbreaking Arkad.
I think we should get a title now like Vala the Swordbreaker or the Helper

>>36010512
Decently I think. Sorta waiting on how much we can move things around in a flashback. If we can actually make decisions that will move things around a bit I'll personally have no issues. Because simply having flashbacks where you can't change the outcomes of our relations with people doesn't really work to well in my experience.

4 or 5. We covered a lot of ground way too fast, but I think we were going in the right direction. I just really hope there's more in store for this quest.

>>
>>36010512
Don't.feel too bad OP. You're still a really good writer who came up with an interesting world with some very compelling characters in it. We chose.to have this happen. You did the best you could with what we gave ya.
>>
>>36010614
If they're to provide insight into some of the characters introduced, the QM might go into a bit of narration with how they were dealing with some of the political issues while Vala just goes around his town being a pleasant naive god.
>>
>>36010512
Its not BAD, as such. For something so powerful as a miracle, you should have given time or maybe even discussed the options and their consequences.

We didn't know enough about Arkad's perspective to make such a heavy-handed decision, even though Anya was right there to explain her side.

There were definitely deaths. When Vala "freed" the slaves, it's likely that a fifth were recaptured, a fourth died escaping, and who knows how many died in the chaos and due to not knowing how to be self-sufficient.

There's a lot of stuff to explore and obligations to fulfill before we can skip ahead back to ffion.
>>
>>36010512
>>36011307
As for characters, we only ever get to see them at their lowest, and while you may think that's appropriate for rolling some sleeves for diety work, it just feels like waifu power fantasies.

We need more information about the characters AND their problem to properly help them instead of making things worse.

Also, it might be better to actually discuss ehat it means to be a god, or at least consider whether our meddling ultimately helps the person in question.
>>
>>36011307
Where did you get those numbers?
also, there are gods involved, and the rebel's army was still armed (technically not part of arkad anymore)
Do you really expected disarmed soldiers to go after slaves with their bare hands? With the populace seeing such major miracle happening they are not going to start rioting.
Also, you are discounting anya's significance and trouncing her so publically as well the effects of our choice of dialog with her during such.
furthermore, the top general arkad's military is explicitly said to have revealed tied to the rebels and helped keep things organized.

also, didn't vala accidentally slaughter a troop of arkad soldiers with a tornado?
>>
>>36011881
>numbers
It's mostly an estimate. Without arms, a lot less slaves can be recaptured. Assuming that the slavers still have magic, a lot of slaves would still die.

More importantly, the slaves are lacking in food, organization, shelter, and are in the midst of people they CANNOT trust. It's likely that they'll either run to the forests or start stealing food, both risking death.
>>
>>36012953
its not an estimate, an estimate is based on some sort of extremely rough figures.
these figures were pulled out of your ass

And you completely ignored every single argument I actually made

As for wizard slavers, wizards are fairly rare, those who are also slavers rarer still. And those who are, are not going to fight to the death in a divine intervention scenario.

You seem to be imagining a giant prison, instead of slaves actually integrated into a society. Keeping all your slaves in cages is stupid, a slave in a cage isn't doing work.
Starvation doesn't happen overnight, and there are no forests in the middle of a city.
Shelter they already have. Running away is unnecessary. And there are plenty of people they can trust. From the rebels who are coming in to occupy the nation to people they know who aren't their owners and have treated them with kindness before. (eg, tim the smith is such a nice feller. I talk to him every day when I buy groceries for the master's dinner. Jack the tailor is kind of an arse though, thinks he is too good to chat with a slave)
Also, again you keep on grossly underestimating people's reaction to such a major divine intervention. a lot of people are just going to see what has happened and come to the conclusion that MAYBE they shouldn't make trouble for the god who just did this miracle and will play along nicely.
>>
>>36011881
>>36012953
Most of the gods in Arkad are with Arkad, aren't they? Why wouldn't they stop the slaves?

>disarmed soldiers
yes, if their boss is ordering them to recapture malnourished slaves

>tied to the rebels
that depends on how fast the rebels sweep in to take control, I guess.

If the military who actually sided with the rebels tried to help the slaves, I'm pretty sure the slaves would just resist on account of, you know, the military being the ones who enslaved them in the first place.
>>
>>36013023
>Most of the gods in Arkad are with Arkad, aren't they?
No. where are you getting all those imaginary gods from?

>yes, if their boss is ordering them to recapture malnourished slaves
malnurished slaves are extremely inefficient at doing work.

if a god just shattered my sword and freed some slaves, and my boss told me to go catch that slave bare handed, I would punch him in the face and tell him to shove it. because i am not an idiot.

>that depends on how fast the rebels sweep in to take control, I guess.
pretty damn fast considering just how many gods are supporting them now. They are under the direct command of a decently strong goddess and there are 3 gods in town in case shit DOES hit the fan.

>If the military who actually sided with the rebels tried to help the slaves, I'm pretty sure the slaves would just resist on account of, you know, the military being the ones who enslaved them in the first place.
resist... what? being free?
how are they going to do that?
>>
>>36013019
>these figures were pulled out of your ass
well...you're not wrong.

> And those who are, are not going to fight to the death in a divine intervention scenario.
they don't have to, they just need to take potshots at the slaves running away

>You seem to be imagining a giant prison, instead of slaves actually integrated into a society. Keeping all your slaves in cages is stupid, a slave in a cage isn't doing work.
hmm, you're right. A lot of slaves probably wouldn't have bodyguards keeping them in check in the first place. Point taken.

>Shelter they already have.
what shelter? Alleyways?

> people they know who aren't their owners and have treated them with kindness before.
point taken

> a lot of people are just going to see what has happened and come to the conclusion that MAYBE they shouldn't make trouble for the god who just did this miracle and will play along nicely.
so they'll just stand there? for days? Okay, maybe they would.

>>36013057
>No. where are you getting all those imaginary gods from?
hold up, when you say "there are gods involved" did you mean just the 3 gods and Anya?

>if a god just shattered my sword and freed some slaves, and my boss told me to go catch that slave bare handed, I would punch him in the face and tell him to shove it. because i am not an idiot.
fine, point taken

>pretty damn fast considering just how many gods are supporting them now.
The main problem is mobilization. The majority of the armed forces would need to spread out throughout Arkad, and teleportation of that scale is a bit too much for at least 2 of those gods.

>resist... what? being free?
being relocated back home. We can't just leave them there, can we?

>how are they going to do that?
hiding. running.
