ACT 2, SCENE 1
ROAD RAGE
(DAISUKE POV)

"Okay," Star says over the phone. "No, you deal with that. Don't be afraid to run if it gets too much, that's handbook rule number 5. Good luck."

She hangs up and looks at you. "That was the P-COC Elites. They're bogged down fighting a three-tailed kitsune."

"Do they need back up?" Akira asks.

Star shrugs. "They said that it was under control. They're just trying to keep her from messing up a school."

"A school?" You ask, concerned.

"They held her off long enough for it to be evacuated. Now they're just trying to keep her there, or bust her." Star says.

"Nice to know we'll have competent people holding down the fort when we take a vacation after this." Akira says. "This does get us paid vacation time, right?"

"You'd have to check with Dr. Venkman in Central." Star says.

Your phone blinks. You've got a text from Kali.

"Guys...we may have trouble incoming." You say.

"What kind?" Akira asks.

"The kind that's missing a hand." You say.

"HER? Again?!" Star says. "She just doesn't know when to quit!"

"Yeah, and this time she might be bringing explosives." You say.

"Alright, so...what's the plan then?" Akira says.

(At this point, Sato and Rei are still busy at the Palace)

Whoa, is it really that time already? THE battle is commencing Right Now?

wow.

I was hoping we'd be able to help the Pagans in setting up defenses in their zones. Or that we'd have more time to prepare.

By the way, who is defending the base? Remember that if they know we're out here fighting, our base will become an immediate priority for them.

"Still don't like leaving the base under control of a bunch of PAGANs." Akira says.

"You use the army you've got." Star says. "Okay, we're coming up on the next primary target."

"Who lives here?" You ask.

"I believe it's either the head of a political club, or the leading actress on that drama, the one with the dog?" Star says.

"You aren't sure?" Akira asks.

"I don't watch much tv!" Star says.

"You don't watch much TV that has been made after 1989." Akira says.

"Can we focus on the possibility of a hit squad?" You say.

Hit the girls with Stasis streams while Akira fires up the Destabilizer.
Once the three have been destabilized, trap them for later turnover to the P-COC.

They're probably legally protected by the P-COC; Peck may be mad as hell that he got tricked again, and that the P-COC was infiltrated, but he'd be even madder still if HIS EMPLOYEES were busted by Ghostbusters and not turned over back to him for proper disciplinary review.

We need to bag them and keep moving.

>Legally they may no longer count as employee's or human, being confirmed as paranormal entities and therefore under our full jurisdiction.
Not that simple since the Japanese branch of the P-COC legally began the hiring of youkai and other supernatural entities.
Legally, they're still civil servants, and we didn't catch them in the act of committing a crime.
We only caught them before they committed a crime.
The most we could do is a misdemeanor, maybe assault and battery.
>>
>>36005571
>Not that simple since the Japanese branch of the P-COC legally began the hiring of youkai and other supernatural entities.
They did? I thought they were posing as humans.

> and we didn't catch them in the act of committing a crime.
Sure we did.
We're the ghost-busters. If we think they're committing a crime, they are.

In addition we have recorded evidence from the Yomi-1 showing how they attackd first despite complete legal warning we gave them. It's very cut clear.

And since we're the ultimate legal authority concerning hostile ghosts, it's within our power to process and sentence them as per our authority.
>>
>>36005623
>it's within our power to process and sentence them as per our authority.
Seriously, it does strike me as funny that the Chinese and Korean ghosts and supernaturals could point to us and with complete sincerity compare us to the Kempeitai of Imperial Japan and they'd be completely right, since we abuse the fuck out of the fact that we are the law when it comes to paranormals.
In fact, from a neutral POV, the P-COC really is necessary to keep the excesses of the Ghostbusters in check.
>>
>>36005689
In the least they're necessary to keep our excesses concerning public property and collateral damage in check.
>>
>>36005623

>Assume trick, blast them again.
I'm sticking to it. It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission before they or their friends get a chance to kill you.

We could ask them what method the strike teams are using for communication.
That would be really helpful in either intercepting or jamming their method of working together.

We can't do that if they're inside a trap.

We could ask them that before we trap em.

>>36006623
Well, the good news is that everyone's fine. Also, YOMI-1 is still drivable.

The bad news is that you no longer have a side door.

The impact caused the door to pop open, and it slid free really quickly.

Couple that with the fact that you were spinning in a circle as Akira desperately tried to keep YOMI-1 on the road, it just broke free, and now there's no door.

So you can see that the car that hit you, also doesn't have much damage. Just a busted headlight. It's a beautiful cherry red, Nissan Skyline.

There's a familiar looking blonde behind the wheel. She has a hook hand on the driver's wheel, and her other hand is hanging out the window and...

"That's...that can't be a..." Star stammers.

"Is that a rocket launcher?!" You ask.

"The correct terminology is rocket propelled grenade." Akira says and then he punches YOMI-1 into gear.

Thankfully the fact that Issa was only using one hand, despite her augmented strength, added to Akira moving out of the way, caused the shot to miss and detonate a trash dumpster.

"And she's chasing us!" You say as you look out your newly expanded 'window.'

"I guessed!" Akira says.

You stick your head out and look at Stumpy's position. "Okay, she's a little to our left."

"My left or your left?" Star says. "And which button turns the thing left? Is it the radio tuner or the temperature regulator?"

"I think it's the side window adjusters, LEFT TURN. HANG ON!"

You all brace yourselves and Akira swerves the car.

"Okay...so...your left, my right? Right?"

"Correct!" You say, not wanting to do a comedy routine.

"Okay...I have no idea if this is going to work!" Star says.

"And how is this different from ANY THING ELSE that we've done? EVER?!" Akira shouts.

"True." Star says.

"FIRE!" You yell.

Star presses the button on the seat warmer.

The blast smashes into Stumpy's car, and now she has a convertible.

Also, it looks like half of her hair is on fire.

It also slowed her down, so Akira has a chance to get away.

You're getting a phone call.

"Hey!" It's Sato. "So...are you guys those explosions?"

"Maybe." You say. "How're things on your end?"

"Easy as pie." Sato says. "Everyone's gossiping at how the Ghostbusters just came in and saved the day, like the smooth professionals that we are. Also, Rei says that she might want to go see a movie with me, later!"

"That's great...just great." You sigh. "Where are you, so we can pick you up?"

He gives the address. You aren't far.

Unfortunately, it seems that Stumpy has caught up to you, and she's reloaded her RPG.

"Gotta run, we'll pick you up in five!" You say before hanging up. "AKIRA! SWERVE NOW!"

There's also any youkai who had traveled with Japanese immigrants/Imperial Army into Manchuria who were left behind during the Imperial Japanese pullout and were captured by Communist forces (either Soviets or Chinese).

Also the Soviets could have taken some from China and Korea (North) during their support of either nation.

I imagine any who weren't captured by the soviets or returned to Japan have probably assimilated themselves into the local pop by now.

Although, I bet every government or super power probably has conducted various occult experiments by now. The Americans, the Russians, even Japan has already opened itself up to the PCOC.

Akira swerves hard, and the shot hits the road just next to YOMI-1. You can see the shrapnel imbed itself into the car.

"Can we get the capture stream function on this thing working?" You ask.

"Not without stopping the car." Akira says.

"What? Why?" You ask.

"It has to do with the draw from the battery....I don't know. Sato built it!" Akira says. "If you can hook your pack up to the cannon, then yeah. It'll work."

"All the wiring's on the roof!" You say.

"Hence you see the difficulty." Akira says. "TURNING!"

You all hang on, and you try to keep anything important from spilling out of the van.

"Akira, I think we lost one of your spare cowboy hats."

"FUCK!"

"I think I'm going to be sick." Star says.

"She isn't going to stop." You say. "We have to run her off the road."

"I can do that." Akira says.

"Do you want me to try and shoot out her tires?" You ask.

"No." Akira says. "But do shoot at her. Like constantly, keep her focused on you, and keep her from firing that RPG of hers!"

"Got it!" You shout, and you put your pack on. Make your way to the back and kick open the back doors.

"Let me know when you need to turn!" You shout. "I don't want to fall out."

The most stability that you have is a rope that's tied to one of the seats. You're holding it with the hand that's not holding the nutreno wand.

"Okay!" Start shooting now! Just keep her not looking at what I'm about to do!" Akira yells.

You open fire.

With the car moving this way and that we'll have a hard time keeping a beat on it.

Be sure to hit it with the Meson tag and fire away meson pulses, that way even if you miss the meson pulses will home in on the vehicle.

You fire a Meson Tag and hit the grill of the car. Then unleash with the overload pulses. Every one of them impacts with a burst of light and sparks.

You hear Stumpy scream in rage and she tries to swerve one way and the other, but you've got the tag, so you keep obscuring your vision.

You idly notice that Akira has been speeding up, faster and faster. Making sure that Stumpy has been keeping up.

You can see that Stumpy has reloaded her RPG launcher and is trying to get a clear shot.

"NOW!" Akira yells, and pulls he handbrake on YOMI-1 as he does a 90 degree turn. (Nearly)

FUCK! You've lost grip on your rope!

"DAISUKE!" Star shouts and fires a slime tether.

At the same time as you're sliding out of the car, you can feel YOMI-1 tilt. Slightly. But enough.

At the same time, your turn has revealed that Akira was driving straight towards a very solid looking brick wall.

Stumpy didn't even have time to realize is, as he car SMASHES into it head on. The front half of the car crumples and you see a figure fly out from the front seat, and WHUMP against the wall.

THEN the RPG ammo explodes.

You're trying not to die, or be in a car that won't tip over.

Star's tether snags you, and you grab it and pull yourself back into the van and you LEAN as hard as you can, and YOMI-1 rights itself with a THUMP.

You lie on the floor of the van, and give Star a thumbs up.

"Holy..." Star says. "That was...that was way WAY too close."

You slowly roll over and look at the mess that was Stumpy's car...and probably Stumpy.

"Do you think she survived?" You ask the others.

"Do we care?" Akira says with a snort.

"We should get Sato and Rei." Star says.

Your phone rings. You pick it up, it's Kali.

"What's up?" You ask.

"Well, the good news is that Gramps and I just finished burning the registry contracts." Kali says.

"Great. That's really...great." You say.

"You sound dazed." Kali says.

"Nearly died...in two ways at once." You say.

"Oh, nice." Kali says. "Anyway, the bad news...I think we're being played."
