It's simple! Just:
>Reply to an EsperQM™ post

VOTING PROTOCOL:
>When voting, put the option you're voting for in greentext, linking back to the post you're voting towards.
>If you want to do a write-in, choose the “>Something else? (WRITE-IN!)” option, and put your write-in in greentext below it.
>If you wish to support a write-in, vote as you normally would, link back to the post containing the write-in, and include whatever it was that that particular anon... well, wrote!

You are Fate, and, at this particular moment, on this fine evening of the 31st of July, you're wondering just what in the name of all that is right and just is going on.

Fuckin' aliens, man.

You imagine Akari is trying to reassure Mato, given the latter's lack of... mind-control resistance? It doesn't matter what it's called, you suppose- Mato, if you know her at all, almost certainly feels that she's failed her precious red-head, and will be inconsolable until that same red-head can talk some sense into her.

You brush your fingertips, inhuman and made of black metal though they are, across Mokarin's 'sleeping' face, tracing her cheekbone, then her jawline. She depleted a good deal of her power supply earlier today, when she levelled a rather large portion of a city block, as well as the alien robots that that particular portion of city block had been playing host to. Thus, she's standing, bolt-upright, in her charging dock-thing, with her eyes screwed shut and her hands clenched into fists.

Not for the first time, you catch yourself wondering how she can be more human than you. Your arms and legs- and more, though that's beneath the skin, hidden from sight- are far more unnatural than any single part of her body, expertly-crafted and wrapped in synthetic skin.

Of course, your... prosthesis... are more pragmatic in design, made to be durable and efficient, by hands lacking the masterful touch of a technopath. Respectable, if not commendable, you think.

“If you're going to spend every minute of every day with her,” a voice- the voice of Mokarin's cyan-haired 'mother', as it were- emanates from the doorway behind you, “then I suppose there's no harm in telling you that she can be charged 'manually' through the access panel under her left shoulder-blade.” The idol snickers. “It'll save you time, and it'll cut down on my electricity bill. Win-win, right?”
>>
You glance down at your left hand, and send electricity arcing between your fingertips with little more than a thought.

“Oh, right. I almost forgot. Don't break her heart. Unless you /want/ to find out what manner of horrible things a technopath can do to someone as heavily-augmented as yourself.” She delivers the threat in a sweet and cheerful voice, one you assume she normally uses to do her cutesy idol-talk and such... somehow, that makes the chill it sends down your spine all the more terrifying.

”Uh... right. Thanks.”

>Charge Mokarin 'manually'.
>Leave Mokarin be. AI or no, there's no harm in letting her 'sleep,' is there?
>Ask Miku how her analysis of those alien 'goodies' is going.
>Ask Miku how your mother's adjusting.
>Something else. (Write-in!)

You disengage Mokarin from her little charging-nook with a few button-presses on the control panel embedded into the wall beside her, and she falls forwards into your arms, limp.

You hold her close to yourself with one arm, and slip your left hand up her shirt. You trace your fingers upwards until you feel the tiny crack of the access panel, which you open with ease.

You slip two fingers into the freshly-revealed opening, pressing them against the appropriate bits, and let loose with your powers.

You can feel your cheeks reddening and your breathing becoming more frantic. You didn't realize how soft Mokarin is until now- not truly, anyways. You suppose your limbs aren't as sensitive to touch as your good old-fashioned flesh...

Mokarin's cheek is resting against yours, and her chin is resting on your shoulder. She smells surprisingly nice.

This... oh boy.

You need to distract yourself, before you...

You shut your eyes and take a deep breath, then glance over your shoulder, looking for the cyan-haired technopath. Asking questions should be adequate as a distraction, right?

All you see is a closed door.

You suppose you wouldn't want to stick around, either, if it was /your/ 'daughter' and her... companion... doing this.

After a few moments, Mokarin shifts slightly in your arms.

“Yes,” you murmur, “it's me.”

“What are you-” She's cut off by her own gasping moan as you redouble your efforts, doing your best to charge your... girl? Gynoid? Feminine artificial intelligence?

Your contemplation is derailed as Mokarin presses herself against you, her hands finding their ways to your back, one resting between your shoulders, and the other resting right around your tailbone. Moreover, her thigh finds its way between yours, and begins rub-

Your eyes go wide and you manage to stammer, “M-Mokarin...!”

She presses her lips to your ear and whispers, “More.”

You oblige her, upping your output even further, until you're surpassing what used to be your limits.

Mokarin ends the kiss rather abruptly, and you make a weak noise of protest, but don't pursue it any further.

You are Akari Takamichi, and you've got ninety-nine problems.

One of those problems is, unfortunately, your girlfriend.

She's still sullenly clinging to you, occasionally whimpering like a kicked puppy.

You've been helping Miku with stuff for the past few hours, and Mato has been like this the entire time. You're not certain what to do to cheer her up, but, even objectively speaking, it needs to happen- she's hampering your human cutting-torch work, after all!

Nee-chan took charge of the situation pretty much immediately, and has the Sisters, their 'Brother', and Minami-chan working together to make sure the city is 'secure'. Mostly by going to all of the Judgment and Anti-Skill branches and what-not and spreading the news.

Miku took the bits of the aliens' technology that you brought rather eagerly, and has been messing with them almost nonstop since. The Sisters were also tasked with taking pieces of 'loot' to scientists and researchers throughout the city, so as to get a better idea of what you're all up against as soon as possible.

The weapons seem to be super-efficient Gauss rifles, firing ferromagnetic slugs at high speeds.
Not that any test-firings have taken place- that, as Miku herself said, 'could have dire- and really stupid- consequences'.

Okay, that settles it.

Ignoring her isn't working, either.

You squint down at the top of Mato's head.

Two can play at this game.

It's rather awkward, but you manage to get her to slip up and loosen her grip a bit (with the help of a bit of jostling and some muscle-soothing heat, of course), at which point you drop into a crouch to be level with her, and wrap your arms around her.

She squeaks in surprise, and you stand, forcing her upright in the process.

“Mato.”

Mato whimpers.

“What's wrong?”

She sniffles quietly.

“Mato...”

She buries her face in your shoulder, and, judging by the dampness of your shirt, she's crying a bit, now.

You get an idea.

A devious idea.

All you need to do is soothe Mato.

Calm her down.

You stroke her hair a few times, then move your hands down to her stomach, and begin rubbing.

Up and down, side-to-side, and in circles. You rub her belly, coo gently, and nuzzle her affectionately.

You whisper to her. 'It's okay,' 'I love you,' 'C'mon, cheer up,' 'Lemme see you smile,' and other, similar things.

Soon enough, your shoulder quits dampening, and the sniffling slows somewhat.

After... nearly twenty minutes of this, Mato mutters, “I'm sorry, Akari,” into your neck... and falls asleep.

If talking to the Tau guy gave /you/ a headache, you don't even know what it must have been like for Mato. Being mind-controlled really does a number on a person, you decide.

>Take Mato to her room, tuck her in.

Gently, carefully, you position yourself to pick Mato up without waking her, your every move slow and deliberate.

You'll put her on the couch, you think. So you can keep on helping Miku with her stuff, and still keep an eye on Mato.

You sweep Mato's legs out from under her, and cradle her in a bridal carry in the same motion.

Idly, you note that she's gotten a bit heavier than she used to be. Probably because of the augmentation- when you consider that her whole ribcage is armored, she's not heavy at all.
A part of you wonders if she could be a bit heavier- a bit more well-armored- but you're pretty sure that's just you being concerned about her well-being.

You take your time getting her to the couch, and, when you lay her across it, you make sure to undo the ties holding her hair in the twintails you're so used to seeing.

Mato... looks really weird with her hair down.

You suppress a giggle, give her a kiss on the forehead, and rest her head on one of those pillows that people like to keep on couches for some reason. Maybe they're for situations like this? Who knows? It's not important at the moment.

You glance up at the clock.

It's getting to be about the time when dinner might be called for, but there's a three-to-five-hour window for that, and the times involved in said window (and the span of said window, too) vary wildly depending on who you ask. In other words, there's no rush.

What'll you do, now?

You nab a blanket from Mato's bedroom and drape it over Mato's sleeping form, giving her another kiss on the forehead after you've done so.

You pause a few moments, to make sure there's not anything else you need to do to make Mato comfy. Then, satisfied, you head back to the lab. Miku is once again present- back from whatever she left to do , you assume- and working with one of the long and boxy rifles.

She notices you as you enter, and gestures to the pair of shorter weapons- Nee-chan would call them 'carbines,' you think- which, like the rifles, are boxy and painted(?) a rather gaudy yellow color. “See if you can figure out how those work. I think I've got it, but, if I tell you, then you'll be going into it with an idea- that might be wrong- in mind. Yanno what I'm sayin'?”

You nod, and move over to the pair of 'carbines.'

Like the rifles, they're double-barrelled, over-and-under. They also have a similar... bolt-looking thingie, and seem to load magazines (there're two per weapon!) of the same type.

If you want to get a look at their inner workings, you'd probably be wise to only cut one of them open.

You remove the two magazines from one of the weapons, and, with a little bit of patience and a not-insignificant amount of heat, you slice it straight down the center, starting from the barrel(s) and ending at the stock.

The barrels have coils wound around them, which seem to be wired to the magazine that goes in the stock. You think. It's kinda hard to be certain. There's lots of complex-looking stuff, too.

Still, there's not much else for the stock-magazine to do, and it seems to be part of the entire circuit. Which means that the magazine in the stock isn't so much a magazine as it is a battery.

The mechanisms seem like they're designed to alternate between barrels, for whatever reason, and the bolt-looking thing seems like it's only there to rotate when the thing fires- to counteract recoil, you'd imagine.

The coils are different, though, where the mechanism loads slugs from the magazine- they're connected to different bits of circuitry, and also a good deal bigger.

But... what the heck are they supposed to do? What purpose would those larger portions serve?

Yeah, they probably superheat the slugs. Electromagnetic induction and all that.

You're not entirely sure /why/ they superheat the slugs, given that heat destroys magnetism, but you're willing to bet that there's a reason.

It'd explain the mechanisms and double-barrel, though- firing superheated projectiles has to make overheating a concern, and alternating barrels every shot would help prevent that.

You call Miku over and explain your thoughts/findings.

She tells you of her findings, and admits that she wasn't sure about the superheating, either- which is why she asked for your input.

“As far as I can tell, the larger solenoids are meant to ionize the slugs while also propelling them so fast that the plasma created doesn't have time to dissipate.”

You blink. That's...

“Isn't that really inefficient, though?”

Miku shrugs. “I thought the same thing, but... they wouldn't be using them if they didn't work, right?”
She frowns. “… right?”
She trails off, her brow furrowed. Is she deep in thought, or what?

IT IS THE EXPRESSION OF SCIENTIFIC SCIENCE AND SCIENCE SCIENCE ADVANCEMENT.

SCIENCE.

Okay, writing!

Apply what to Akari's power? Pulse carbines and similar basically shoot tiny fireballs. Akari can do that too, without the weapon.
>>
“Is there a way I can apply this to my powers?”

She regards you curiously for a few moments. “I... I don't know? I don't think so, but... ya never know.” She pauses. “I was thinking it'd be better if it was... not-so-hot. But...”

She blinks, then pauses for several moments. Long enough that, when she asks, “How hot can you get?” you flinch a bit.

Your poor, surprised response is a subdued, “Very?”

“I think,” she says, “you might be able to make plasma.”

Doubtful.

Anon's calling the projectiles 'fireballs' isn't something I commented on because the fluff for the pulse weapons is full of holes.
Just like fireballs, only without 'because you're pooping on reality with your psychic powers' as an excuse.

That's funny, but she and /your/ sister have actually rounded third and slid into home, if y'know what I'm sayin.

I'm saying they've had sex.
Which, naturally, means that bringing up her sister doesn't really work as a sassy remark.
>>
“What? How?”

She grins. “Heat... and pressure. If you just heat a gas, it expands, and you've wasted time and effort, right?”

You nod. She's not wrong, after all. “Right...”

“But-” she winks- you're not sure why, but... she does- “you're in a unique-ish position. You can control heat, right?”

“Right again.”

“So you can heat things in ways that wouldn't otherwise be possible. For example, you could heat a spherical region of air, focusing the thermal radiation inwards and preventing outward expansion- thereby exerting pressure. The greater the heat, the greater the pressure. Moreover, if you were to heat that sphere from its center, too, the pressure and heat would be even greater.”

Could that really even work...?

[PERSONAL REALITY DECISION]

I think this'll be the last one for today.
I've been off my game all day, and I'm slowing down even more as time goes on, and I'm sure the quality's dropping, too.

Yeah, I know. I need to buck up and send the Pink Devil, whether I like how spoopy she is or not.

You scratch your chin.

Yeah... that might be possible.

Possible, but... not so useful.

If at all.

You relay your thoughts to the cyan-haired idol, who nods. “Oh, well. It was worth the thought, wasn't it?”

You suppose so.

“Now, let's see if we can't take these toys our... new friends... were so kind as to give to us, and make them a little better.” She grins mischievously. “Whaddya say?”

“I say we show them that humans play to win... but, only if we play with them, of course.”

She laughs. “Of course. We wouldn't want them to get lonely, would we?”

That reminds me!
A lot of you guys have /m/ tendencies, right?

But it occurred to me that y'all might be into that.

Thoughts?

Honestly, you were doomed the instant you brought it up, you can't just tease us like that and then not deliver! Seriously though, more /m/-related content is always appreciated, especially given the void left by GBF Quest's ending.
>>
>>36052557
What I've in mind is... they're similar to that one shooter that's relatively new
with the mechs that drop from the sky and the parkour and the huehue-smartpistol
the name escapes me
But the mechs I was planning were very similar to those.
>>
>>36052594
Please tell me you don't mean Titanfall. That's barely /m/ at all, you can do much better than that!
>>
>>36052625

How can you get more mecha-related than big, bipedal/humanoid, single-pilot mechs?
Especially considering I went to a metroid thread when I visited /m/
Samus' armor isn't even external, anon
it's linked to her nervous system and stored in some sort of magical place
or maybe it's stored in ber body?
I guess that could explain her curves- armor plate storage.

But they're so ugly! They lack flair, they have no soul, they're all interchangeable and weak and so damn stupid-looking! A real robot (not to be confused with a Real Robot) should be a personalized machine, practically a character in and of itself, with specialized weapons and tools and finishing moves to boot! Never played any Metroid so I can't comment on Samus, but for proper /m/ content there are far better options out there than Titanfail.

Robots are autonomous. Mechs would be machines.
Or... vehicles? Are vehicles machines?

I'm talking about general size and shape, y'know? I mean, it's not really efficient or logical or practical or in any way sensible to make a bunch of unique mechs, but specialization is to be expected, and I've not played the game, myself, so I don't know about 'weak' or 'stupid-looking' in any sort of specific case. I think I recall being able to disable a mech by jumping onto its back and pulling out important-looking bits, but, frankly, that's just really bad design-choice.

There, I google image'd a 'titan'.

That's the closest to what I have in mind, from what I saw.
>>
>>36052849
When it comes to /m/ mecha and robots tend to be fairly interchangeable terms, to be honest, I can name plenty of autonomous mecha and piloted robots. And who gives a damn about efficiency, logic or practicality? This is Academy City we're talking about, after all. And that color scheme and design is just so... dull, compared to all the other options out there. Where's the over-the-top borderline insanity that we've come to expect from AC and this quest in general?
>>
>>36052908
>Color scheme

Paint, anon.
Paint is a thing.

Besides, why would the generic mechs be over-the-top?
They're generic because they don't have esper abilities to work with/be based around.
>>
>>36052939
Oh, so they're grunts. Why didn't you say so? Grunt mecha are a perfectly acceptable part of any /m/-related material. We better get some specialty suits that work with esper powers in the future though, because oh the ideas that I just had... think of the potential!
>>
I'm getting the feeling I'm the only player around here who doesn't like /m/echa...

Stupid timezones, I'm always falling asleep before these discussions.
