/tg/ - Traditional Games

Welcome to the XI installment of "Disney Villains Victorious."

Disney Villains Victorious is a new /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.

All right, this is going great!

So, let's see if we finally got the basic mechanics down.

>The most common roll is 3d6 + Attribute + Skill. The Target Number for something a hero would consider to be challenging is 20.

>Attributes are:

>ROBUSTNESS! (muscles and stamina);
>Agility (dexterity and hand to eye coordination);
>Intelligence (memory and learning speed);
>Sensibility (situational awareness and empathy);
>Charm (force of personality and pleasantness).

>An average guy has 7 in every Attribute. A PC begins with 6 in every Attribute and has 10 points to spread around. 12 is the highest you can reach in an Attribute without moving to another Tier of play.
>>
If we've got more Pixar, it would be amusing to have Stromboli in control of the toys from Toy Story. More of a cameo/easter egg than a plot, but it could work.
>>
>>36080030

>The Skills are:

>Acrobatics
>Athletics

>Melee
>Ranged
>Brawl
>Withstand (to avoid getting shanked)

>Endure (to resist poisons, diseases, heat, cold, starvation, mind control, social pressure and shit)

>Stealth
>Legerdemain (to steal, to get out of a pair of manacles, to hide something)

>Deceit
>Persuasion
>Intimidation

>Academics
>Linguistics (to decipher ancient hieroglyphics, to speak in code, to learn new languages)
>Mechanics
>Occult
>Science

>Craft

>Driving (to drive cars, boats, airplanes)
>Travel (to ride animals, to avoid getting lost, to feed off the land, to find shelter, to follow tracks)

>Insight (Perception, Insight and Search, all rolled in one)

>Music

>An average guy has 3 in the Skills that most relate to his everyday life. PCs begin with 0 in every Skill and have 10 points to spread around. The first point you put in a Skill raises it to 3. Every following points raises it by 1. 6 is the highest you can reach in a Skill without moving to another Tier of play.
>>
>>36080038
Toys aren't here in this thing. For a start, nobody ever built them. Also, the plots of the films don't change the fact that the toys don't talk in front of humans.
Also, which Pixar film did we include?
>>
>>36080052

>To attack someone you roll 3d6 + Attribute + Skill. Attribute and Skill can be ROBUSTNESS! and Melee, or Agility and Ranged, or Charm and Deceit, or Sensibility and Persuasion, or anything else you can use to hurt someone.

>To avoid an attack you roll 3d6 + Attribute + Skill. Attribute and Skill depend on how you are being attacked: ROBUSTNESS! or Agility + Withstand to avoid pshysical attacks, Charisma + Resistance to avoid social pressure, Sensibility + Resistance to avoid being hurt by your opponent's lies, Intelligence + Resistance to avoid being hurt by mind attacks.

>Serious enemies do the same, while mooks, instead of rolling, add 3 to their Attribute and Skill.

>If the roll of the aggressor is equal to or greater than the roll of the defender, the aggressor deals one Strike to the Defender. If the margin of success of the aggressor is 10 or more, he deals two Strikes instead. 20, three Strikes instead.

>Strikes are an abstraction: you blocked the sword, you dodged the arrow, you landed gracefully, you resisted the social pressure, you didn't let yourself get hurt by your enemy's lies.

>Important people, like PCs and serious villains, can get up to three Strikes before getting actually hurt: every Strike after the third is a real injury. Mooks and normal people don't have this kind of protection: one Strike is always enought to take them down.

>Armor works by decreasing by one Strike the physical attacks that get to you.
>>
well first thing first lets get some of the stuff from the old thread onto this one before the old thread dies
>>
>>36080038
I'm sure Stromboli has a nice show in Pleasure Island
>>
>>36080052
Talking to Animals, Animal Handling should fall under its own category and not Travel, Survival, Focus (Or determination of what base stat this would fall under)

Just a short list of suggestions that we should weigh.
>>
>>36080080
I think Charles Muntz from Up is the only one so far.
>>
>>36079994
varying_levels_of_subtlety.jpg
>>
>>36080126
>>36080038
Merida from Brave, too.
>>
>>36080080
Mor'du from Brave has scotland, Muntz from up is a part of the hunter's club. I think that's about it as far as Pixar goes.
>>
>>36080126
>>36080138
Ah, right. And I think somebody suggested a Boo from Monsters Inc cameo last thread, but I don't see her doing anything important.
>>
>>36080080
Maybe Monster's Inc. and maybe Finding Nemo. Brave is included because demonic Bear in Scotland is rad.
>>
>>36080101

>Weapons give you a small bonus to your Melee or Ranged rolls. They are the only reason Melee and Ranged are marginally better at dealing damage than Brawl, Diplmacy or Music, Skills that can be used to do a lot of other stuff.

>Shields give you a small bonus to your Withstand rolls.

>Will is a pool of points that can be used to:

>Get a bonus to one roll you're about to make;
>Reroll one roll you just made;
>Resist a magical effect that's affecting you;
>Add some details to the scene (very narrativistic).
>>
>>36080110
We got that shit archived, its alright.
>>
>>36080119

Talking to Animals and Hanimal Handling are Linguistics. Animal is a perfectly normal language, you specieist.
>>
>>36080119
The skills are meant to be more generalized than specific
>>
Thank you for taking the time to summarize the mechanics. I am pretty sure I missed a thread or two in my reading over the weekend.
>>
glad to see this idea hasn't died and is still going strong
>>
>>36080187

Nob and I spent a lot of time on this. It had to be done.

Now, the question is: how often do you recharge the Strikes you can take? After every combat? After a couple of minutes of rest? After an hour?

And how many Will Points should a PC get? Also, how often should they recharge?
>>
>>36080179
>>36080180
Sorry pals.
>>
>>36080179
>Animal is a perfectly normal language, you specieist.
You win this round.
>>
I'm going to post the most recent Official Map again, since it hasn't been put up on 1d4chan yet.
>>
I think that to motivate Players to get into the 'Disney' mindset that songwriting should be optional, but encouraged.

Player writes & performs a good Heroic 'I want' song or (If playing an evil campaign) a good villain song, they'll get a roll bonus for that adventure/session/whatever time period the GM rules appropriate.

It doesn't have to be long, just a verse and a chorus, and it's fine to crib from existing tunes.

If it's a group song, then the whole group gets a bonus, more if each PC has their own individual verse.

If it's really REALLY good, completely original, or they use their own instruments, or just really impress the GM, then they should get a skill point.

This is just to add to the table feel. Totally optional.
>>
>>36080030
>Sensibility
>Charm
>Agility
>Robustness

Can anyone think of a good synonym for Intelligence that begins with an 'E'? We've got the makings of a thematically fitting acronym in SCARE if we can pull it off.

Education springs to mind but doesn't really fit properly and we definitely shouldn't force it.
>>
>>36080218
Will points could be a culmination of all the other stats. Think modifiers in DnD and Pathfinder, maybe half of the other skill points is the amount of will points until next level up.

As for strikes, it may make sense that they are recharged after a determined period of rest. Otherwise, it might make combat become unimportant which could be a negative for many players.
>>
>>36080280
Firstly: What is it with us and acronyms?
Secondly: Erudition.
>>
>>36079994
Character data List is now updated!

And yes, it is comparable to d20station spaghetticode. I'm sorry, it's just that i haven't had time to properly organize and format it.

Also, if we're having Heffalumps, woozles and Acrewooders in the game, how do we deal with the fact that they're essentially living plushtoys?

Also, maybe i could stat out the 100 Acre Wood races, if that's okay...
>>
>>36080280

Stop right there.

We keep doing this almost every thread: no more acronyms. We started with PRINCE and HERO and then decide to just let it go.
>>
>>36080280
acronyms... We tried acronyms once...
<War Flashbacks>
>>
>>36080306
That would be fine, have at it.
>>
>>36080299
>>36080315
>>36080318
Oh fair enough. I literally just saw SCARE jump out at me and thought it would be neat. We can do without.
>>
>>36080321
Right then. I'll have them done sometime tomorrow.
>>
So how do we deal with the obvious chronological inconsistencies in this setting?
Temporal anomaly? Dimensional Flux? Handwave?
>>
>>36080248
The map says Maleficent's lands are green, but marked with purple, and that Grimhilde's lands are purple, but marked with green. Which is it supposed to be?
Also Dr. Facilier's name is misspelled.
>>
>>36080248
Hm, is Blue Fairy a villain?
>>
>>36080306
Since the 100 Acre Woods are supposedly just in Christopher Robin's imagination, I propose we make them optional and not part of the main map.
>>
>The Basic Roles are 5, one for each Attribute. They are very general concepts, easily customizable thanks to Traits, choice of Skills and Powers.

>Strong Guy:

>Gets a rank in Athletic and Withstand
>Can take 4 Strikes instead of 3.
>Rolls 4d6 and drops the lowest die every time he rolls on ROBUSTNESS!
>A Power based on his specialization: something for Knights, something for Brawlers, something for Duelists, et cetera.
>With his character growth he gets new Powers.
>>
>>36080218

Maybe instead of restoring strikes resting, you regenerate them by doing something related to your character's ideals? So as to encourage more cinematic play?

For instance, say that Atlantean mechanic Mahrikatoka is down to one strike, but manages to get some floodlights working, making half the shadows the PCs are fighting melt away. Because one of her ideals is to fix things, this would help replenish her strikes.
>>
>>36080349
MAGIC!
>>
>>36080372
This. This sounds great. Everyone agree with this guys idea.
>>
>>36080349
Which inconsistencies? I was pretty sure we had everything worked out so that this was all in the right place. The most advance tech we have is WW1 - WW2 stuff and maybe Atlantean stuff. Other than that most places are medieval or lower level.
>>
>>36080349
Yes.
>>
>>36080349
Handwave. DOOMtown is modern, next to the Old West, next to Jazz Era Shadowlands, next to Colonial Virgina.

Things just are.

And bringing technologically advanced items to places like Europe in order to help the Resistances there is a great plot hook.
>>
>>36080349

I figure that it works at least in part by the biggest bads being immortal or damn near close to it, and inkling to run their lands a certain way only let thugs change begrudgingly. The North American based nations, the Old West, New York City, Rourke's influence on Atlantis are possible because without ancient evils in the Americas present at the time of colonization, things could progress more freely.
>>
>>36080349
Things happened at different times. America was still populated with pilgrims from Europe initially, it's just that they were fleeing from the Horned King, Maleficent etc. The USA was mostly normal up except for the Atlantis expedition until the 20's, when the Friends came. Meanwhile, China just got conquered by the Huns, and has been conquered for the past few hundred years.
>>
>>36080350
Well, it's more easily fixed than other errors, at least. Maleficent is Green, Grimhilde is purple

While I'm at the map, there was talk of transferring control of the spirit realm to the Firebird from Fantasia 2000, thoughts?
>>
>>36080372
I am in favor of this idea.

Also, we should make a 'last gasp' rule.

Say, Mahrikatoka has used all of her three strikes and is down, but she's just within arm's reach of the floodlight switch to help save her companions. She can use her 'Last Gasp' and flip on the switch, right before she passes out.

Also, because this is Disney, we need to come up with something that represents the Power of Love.
>>
>>36080483
Maybe have a burnt-out area within the spirit realm, centered on somewhere like Mt. St. Helena due to the volcanic devastation.
>>
>>36080390
>>36080406
>>36080412
Okay... in that case, how about Disney settings beyond Earth? Like Treasure Planet.

Or...

Star Wars.
>>
>>36080406
i think he means that stuff like brave and TPATF are from completly different timezones

>>36080349
there is no time paradox as all the films slyly reference each other

>Nimble Guy:

>Gets a rank in Acrobatics and Withstand.
>Moves faster than normal and ignores the speed penalties you normaly get when climbing or moving furtively.
>Rolls 4d6 and drops the lowest die every time he rolls on Agility.
>A Power based on his specialization: something for Street Rats, something for Rogues, something for Circus Performers, et cetera.
>With his character growth he gets new Powers.

>Smart Guy:

>Gets a rank in Academic, Science, Mechanic or Occult.
>Gets one more Will Point than normal.
>Rolls 4d6 and drops the lowest die every time he rolls on Intelligence.
>A Power based on his specialization: something for Professors, something for Alchemists, something for Mechanics, et cetera.

>Rolls 4d6 and drops the lowest die every time he rolls on Sensibility.
>A Power based on his specialization: something for Healers, something for Explorers, something for Artisans, et cetera.
>With his character growth he gets new Powers.

>Charming Guy:

>>
>>36080352

If i'd recall, we agreed on Chrisopher being captured by another King (general consensus seems to favor Kaa) who's trying to get him to make the 100 Acre Woods real and conquer them. Therefore, it's not unreasonable that some 100 Acre Wooders would end up in real life, with territories getting ripped from the dream realm and into the real one. That, and it follows the rule of three we have going on, what with the other dream realm kingdoms being Wonderland and Never-Never Land, the three comprising the Mirror side of the Dream Realm.

So we'd need two more places comparable to The Other Side to fill out the Shadow side.
>>
>>36080477
I thought Virginia was established at the Horned King's whim so he has an eventual foothold on the Americas? Also that Cauldron-Born had rifles because HK hoards tech.
>>
>>36080483
Maybe the Firebird is the Spirit Realm's guard dog.

If a human settlement gets too big, or too destructive, or violates some long forgotten law, the Firebird comes and cleanses the area.

So there are little tribes of people, maybe native refugees from Virginia and the West, who live there, always moving. Desperately trying not to call down the wrath of Nature.
>>
>>36080518
Space stuff is in a future expansion. Right now we're dealing with core rules and setting
>>
>>36080545

>the three comprising the Mirror side of the Dream Realm.

I love you for remembering my idea and my names.
>>
>>36080545
The three Dreamers are Wendy, Christopher Robin and Alice
Wendy is somewhere in Ursula's clutches after being forced to walk the plank, maybe on Davy Jones' ship.
Christopher Robin is in Kaa's hypnotic realm(?)
Alice hadn't been talked about yet, MIA
>>36080565
Speaking of Mirror sides of things, should Grimhilde's magic mirror be pivotal to any of it?
>>
>>36080509
>>36080372

Uh uh, uh uh, very good, very good. A good possibility.

What if the Strikes you can take automatically recharge during long time periods (like, by the next day) but you can also use this rule to recover them faster?
>>
>>36080555
Villains Victorious: Wishing Upon Unfeeling Stars (The space stuff)

Villains Victorious: Dark Dreams (Adding in more DreamWorks stuff)
>>
>>36080248
Hey, where did you get that map? I know it's Europa but how did you get such a pretty geometric version.
>>
>>36080621
>Villains Victorious: Second Star on the Left

Dark Dreams is good
>>
>>36080372
>>36080509

I think it might be more fun than simply having your character rest or waiting for the strikes to recharge because this way, the player might be inclined to think:

"I'm down to one strike. I better do something in-character and awesome."

Rather than:

"I'm down to one strike. I better wait the rest if this fight out."

Maybe, strikes can regenerated both ways, by waiting and by fulfilling ideals, giving characters the chance to both be injured/play dead and go full hero.
>>
>>36080607

She's close to Maleficient and very faeish herself, so yeah, why not? Her mirror could totally be connected to the Dream Realm, which is how it knows all that stuff.

She also deals in eternal sleep, so that's perfect for a connection the Dream Realm.

>>36080544
ROBUSTNESS! guy, you're back!
>>
>>36080621
So in the event that we make the DreamWorks expansion, we'd need to think of a way for Ramses II to literally win against YHWH.
>>
>>36080619
>>36080654

Both ways.
>>
>>36080728
God doesn't interfere with Moses. Simple.
>>
>>36080719

I'm too ROBUST! to be kept down, Anon!

>>36080654
>>36080729

So you both like the idea of recharging the Strikes you can take (SYCT from now on) in both ways: with time and with in character cool actions?
>>
>>36080728
Egyptian gods are real and Moses was playing with the Big Boys
>>
>>36080551
>>36080515

>>
>>36080607
Alice is somewhere in Wonderland. Probably. Maybe. Look, nobody knows, but the damn place is nigh-on infinite and completely nonsensical, so it's completely possible. Plus, there's that bloody cat that always seems to have the answers but never tells.
>>
>>36080607
Idea I liked from last thread.

>Kaa and Winnie the Pooh sound exactly the same
>Kaa lured Christopher Robin into his magical realm and hypnotized him into believing he's Pooh
>Christopher Robin keeps imagining creatures which Kaa eagerly devours, an endless source of food
>>
>>36080786

But then were are the Egyptian Gods? Are they still around? And how powerful are they compared to Hades?
>>
>>36080811
>>36080786
>>36080728
Easier answer: YHWH was already beat down during the Fall. Chernabog is an interpretation of the devil, you know.
>>
>>36080545
>So we'd need two more places comparable to The Other Side to fill out the Shadow side.

Hades' Underworld and Davy Jones' Locker?
>>
>>36080797
Good, but Facilier's name is still typo'd.
>>
>>36080797
Not so hot. I'd rather its realm was more centred around a specific point. With a fringe empire like that, it looks far more intentional instead of the wild, uncontrollable destruction that it should be. North-West is a good spot to centre it.
>>
>>36080828

Good, very good: they are both creepy, mysterious and a possible source of epic adventures.
>>
>>36080828
The Other Side, I think was the third one.
>>
>>36080842
So is Ursula's
>>
>>36080820
Yeah, that's right. Chernabog killed God in this setting. Maybe God's last message was to Moses, to free the Jews, then the world. We could work this into the Gods and Religions splatbook
>>
>>36080870
So what power is talking to Frollo and Jafar?
>>
>>36080775
>>36080654

Right. I think now that allowing for both methods gives the player some good options. Letting them restore over time allows a player to play it safe and their characters get injured or play dead without punishment. Letting them have an active, character-driven means to regenerate strikes promotes active, character-driven gameplay, that is to say, let them be big damn Disney heroes.
>>
>>36080899

Good, good.

Now, what about Will Point? The PCs should never get too many of them, but enough to use them somewhat often.

How many? And how often should they recharge?
>>
>>36080545
>>36080607
>>36080809
>>36080828
>>36080844
I can try to spearhead the work on the other worlds. Should I bother taking up a name, or are there already too many in the thread?
>>
>>36080895
Frollo worships Chernabog now since he entered lichdom. Jafar is the world's most powerful sorcerer, he listens to no higher power.
>>
>>36080895
Also Chernabog. Ooh, idea!
>Chernabog has a piece of the soul of everyone who turns to villainy. As such, just as they can hear His voice and feel His will for power and domination, He knows what they know, and can do exactly what they can do. As such, when Chernabog is fought, he can gain the powers of any King not killed or converted to good.
>>
>>36080841
>not so hot
Kek

I was thinking the same thing though. Here's the alternate version
>>
>>36080895
Could be Chernabog manipulating them.

>>36080933

>>
>>36080940

Yeah but the Caliphate is (presumably) the united Islamic world. They're already culturally fairly similar and certainly not prone to cultural genocide in the same way that the Hun were. Giving them that huge, diverse region means we lose Korea, Japan and Imperial China (just to name the big ones) as distinct cultural identities.

Or are we messing with the time line so that the Hun haven't controlled this areas for 1000 odd years?

Okay, let's get these magical realms rolling.

The Good/Fair:
>Neverland
>Wonderland
>Hunded Acre Wood

The Bad
>The Underworld
>The Locker
>The Other Side

The Three Dreamers are Wendy, Alice and Christopher Robin, who are links to their respective worlds.
The Underworld is controlled/linked by Hades, the Locker by Davy Jones, and the Other Side by Dr. Facilier.

Hades is sitting comfortably in his realm, being bolster by the massive loss of souls from the Villains' reign.
Davy Jones (is he controlled by/partnered with Ursula right now?) is cruising around the seas looking for lost souls.
Dr. Facilier at least is looking to collect the Dreamers to give their realms to his Friends in exchange for massive power.

Wendy is somewhere in the seas after being forced to walk the plank by Hook, whether Davy Jones, Ursula or some other player has her, we don't know.
Alice is MIA, possibly deep in Wonderland, but the Cheshire Cat is Wonderland's only link to the outside world at the moment, but as a totally neutral player, he only cares about messing with people right now. He'd need some convincing/bargaining to be of any use.
Christopher Robin is in Kaa's clutches, hypnotized into believing the snake is Pooh, who in turn feeds off of the friends/animals Christopher Robin creates.

Should Davy Jones and Hades have a more proactive role in the other realms? Any thoughts on Wendy or Alice's situations?
>>
>>36081442
No because we have replacement culture for America.

It's just lame to wash over the entire East with a generic Hun (by far one of the worst Disney villains). Jafar having a tonne of land is fine because he's a fun character. Shen Yu is the capitol of bland.

Possible expansion or added tension to DOOMtown incoming.

In recent times, DOOMtown has had fissures open up all over, revealing a town deep beneath the surface; a town from before toontown was created. A town from the beginning. The town underneath leaks out onto the suface fighting Judge DOOM's control of his domain with ancient black and white toons breaking forth, uneffected by the Judge's dip. The have been tales of a darkness behind this discovery of the town-underneath, a Blot on DOOMtown's landscape sucking the color away. There has also been rumors of an ancient ally slumbering in the oldtown, one known as Oswald. Perhaps this will resolve itself, or perhaps a phantom will released onto the land.

Davy Jones, being the biggest villain from PotC, should be free and back with his heart. He's probably on good terms with Captain Hook and his Pirate Lords, since they keep feeding him souls, but he's locked in a ferocious battle with Ursula.

Wendy disappeared at sea, but Facilier doesn't know if she's with Ursula, Jones or some one else. Maybe she's actually still a prisoner of Hook, who doesn't want Never Land, his perfect hiding place, to vanish.

Man, Ursula's ban on trade between the two gets more irrelevant by the day.
Also, I admit I'm not familiar with Fantasia 2000, but it strikes me as odd that the Firebird- a force of nature- would occupy a defined territory. It seems more to me like it would just roam wherever, probably staying more within the spirit lands. If there is a region that you can point to and say, 'that's the Charred Lands,' it makes more sense to me that it would be along the borders with other polities, where the sorts of things that offend it are more likely to happen. That's my impression, at least.

>Ursula has Wendy
I like it. It's her one trump card but she doesn't even realise it.

Hook doesn't dare push against her rule of the sea for fear of losing Wendy. His uneasy alliance with Jones is enforcing the same non-aggressive stance on the Pirate King but Jones is chafing and is determined to expand. He's got the Kraken and Calypso serving him and sees himself as the rightful King of the Seas, not Ursula. Beckett operates in Indonesia and detests both pirates but can't strike against either while they work together. He and Ursula have an uneasy truce that lets him travel across her waves and lets her dictate his trading policies.

At any point, this complex arrangement could come crashing down.

Ursula's always been more of a manipulator than a tyrant, so enforcing her rule of the seas is problematic.
She probably knows Wendy's worth, and is waiting for Facilier to get more desperate for a better trade from him. Facilier is also waiting for Ursula to do the same, with the pirates and Atlantis pressing her hold on the seas.
With Davy Jones' connection to the Locker, he probably suspects Hook is trying to get back to Neverland, but he's overlooking it at least until Wendy has been reclaimed.

Facilier is helping pressure Ursula through the pirates and Atlantis as discreetly as he can.
However, with Virginia pressing in on the Shadowlands, Facilier has to directly oppose them.
But with the help Rourke gets against Ursula, he's split between helping Ratcliffe for more mineral wealth vs. continued support against the Ursula.

I think that people are overplaying how much Ursula is getting shafted by various groups.

In previous threads we mentioned that the EITC pays a toll for use of specific ocean routes, meaning that they respect her authority at least, and before people mention the Kraken again, don't forget that with the Trident she has dominion over all sea creatures. That includes the Kraken.

For Atlantis, the way I see it their subs are dangerous and hard to find, but they have limited numbers and a large enough investment of sea life (or throwing a kraken at it, maybe?) can still sink them. The only reason they get away with as much as they do is the fact that Ursula can't fill the seas with Sub-hunting fish teams and still maintain dominion over the merpeople.

As for the land border in Japan between Atlantis and the EITC. She may not realize the Virginia through-trade going on but she's not a complete idiot. I wouldn't be surprised at all if she watches that border like a hawk, much like somebody mentioned she does with the Panama canal. (EITC are forbidden from using it, after all)

Wizards! Wizards everywhere!

Oh. It's just another thread.

Okay then. Let's get to work. We need a Power for every nationality and three different powers to choose from for each Class. Additionally, we need to decide on the thorny issue of stat floors for each species. On top of that, I've been hearing rumblings about a new Skill, and a need to stay out equipment properly. We also need a pile of generic traits that consist of "+2 to this skill roll" for non-combat skills. Just be careful out there, guys.

That's an interesting point. There's certainly a lot that wouldn't make the cut. Fujimoto from Ponyo for example is the villain of the film but would have no place in our world as a benevolent sea sorcerer. Similarly, Lady Eboshi from Mononoke isn't evil, just misguided.

>Healing Crystals: The power of Kidagakash, the Heart of Atlantis resides within the character and within the crystal hanging around her neck. This power may be used once a day to heal minor wounds and once a campaign to heal a life threatening wound.

We laid some of this stuff out last thread. I heard humans were already basically done, so myself and some other anons worked out some stats for Beasts and Pixies/Fae.

Beasts:

Beasts will always have a -2 penalty on any Linguistics/Communication roll towards non-beast characters.

>Big Cats:
Size: Medium (No idea how size can play into anything right now, but its there when we figure it out.)

Natural Weapons: Slash (No idea on stats for weapons), bite

Racial Traits:
Pounce (Something with first attack, but I don't know how its been decided that something of that sort would work.)
Camouflage- +2 or some other value on Stealth rolls in environments with tall grass or of similar color scheme to the character. Any factors that influence appearance make this bonus go away.

>Bear:
Size: Large

Natural Weapons: Slash, Bite

Racial Traits:
Bear Hug- +2 on Sensibility based rolls with a friendly character.

Hibernation- Can sleep for a to-be-determined period of time to remove a strike

Thick-Hide- +2 on defensive rolls. Replaces Hibernation

Bear Necessities- Halves score required for any Survival based roll.

>Ape/Monkey:
Size: Small to Large

Natural Weapons: Punch, grapple

Racial Traits:
Wanna Be Like You- +2 on communication rolls with friendly characters

Monkeyin' Around- An ape or monkey of size small or smaller gets +2 on a roll that involves disruption if it is ever determined there will be one; replaces Wanna Be Like You

Knowledge of the Red-Flower- Replaces Wanna Be Like You and Monkeyin' Around. Character can light a fire with one required material as opposed to all of the prerequisites. +2 on rolls relating to fire.

Tail- Requires size small and tail. +2 Agility, +1 Charisma, and -2 Robustness. Bonus to movement if climbing.

No-Tail- Requires size medium or above and character must not have a tail. +2 Robustness, +1 Will, +1 Sensibility.

Size: Tiny (About the size as tall as the distance from the heel of your palm to the tip of your middle finger, varying depending on hand size and pixie height, and with human proportions
Racial Traits:
Tiny - Can fit through small spaces (GM's discretion), +10 to Avoid Harm when using dexterity, only 2 strikes
Flight: Can fly
Pixie Dust: No strength modifiers from size, but still suffers normal penalties for objects of a different size category

Racial Traits:
Rivergoer - No penalty to movement in water, slowed movement on land

All-Natural Armour - +2 on defensive rolls.

Tick-tock, feed the Croc - +2 to intimidate Pirates

Crocodile Tears - +1 to Bluff

Probably some more traits.

>Percussive Maintenance: If a mechanics check is failed, the mechanic may once per day use Percussive Maintenance, striking the device hard with a fist, foot or wrench, fixing, disarming or manipulating it as needed.

>Healing Crystals: The power of Kidagakash, the Heart of Atlantis resides within the character and within the crystal hanging around her neck. This power may be used once a day to heal minor wounds and once a campaign to heal a life threatening wound.

Yeah, we made an exception because there was a big hole in our map and a fun film with an interesting mythology that fit well into that slot. It happened to be Dreamworks.

Spirited Away serves a similar purpose for Japan but has the added benefit of being distributed by Disney. It also has a great world, another villainous witch and plenty of character with which to flesh out Japan. It's worth considering and shouldn't just be written off because 'muh dusnee'

Trying to lay out the relationship between the four-way Jungle Book area in Asia.

>King Louis is, as previously established, a Caligula-like figure, prone to arson. He is still obsessed with becoming more human, and often has members of his court act out the roles of various world leaders so he can play at defeating them. He has designs on expanding his territory, emulating the wars in Europe, but fear of Sher Khan keeps him in place for now.
>Kaa stands in firm contrast to this. He has no interest in expansion, and with Christopher Robin under his thrall he possesses a theoretically-unlimited supply of food. Life under Kaa is hedonistic to a fault, and the great snake goes from idle intellectual pursuits to mindlessly devouring his eager subjects at the drop of a hat.
>While actually expanding his borders doesn't interest him, Kaa has discovered a certain pleasure in having humans under his control, and thus a strange trade exists between him and Louis. Humans who show up in either of the King's terrirtory (usually EITC ships straying too far from the routes permitted by Ursula) are hypnotized, made to share their knowledge with Louis to increase his knowledge of Man, and are then kept by Kaa for his amusement. Lately Sher Khan has made a habit of intercepting these trades to assert his superiority over the other two Kings, and now they both share an interest in overthrowing him.
>Khan keeps the land around him in check; no-one wants to deal with the tiger, not even the humans on his borders, and the knowledge of what would happen to those who cross him ensures his neighbours don't forget their place. His land is more of a hunting ground than a kingdom, inhabitants too terrified to attempt escape. The King has no real notion of diplomacy, seeing it beneath him, and simply demands tribute of the other beast-kings when it suits him.

Then there's Bagheera I guess.
>>

Entirely correct. (except, Robustness isn't usually in all-caps because it looks out of place.)
>>36080052
Mostly correct. Putting one point in a skill doesn't raise it to three, it raises it to one. However, that one point gives a +3 bonus. Trust me, this makes skillpoint math simpler later. The skill bonus is between +3 and +8.

>>36080101
Correct as it stands, but I was considering allowing Robustness to be used for ranged weapons in close quarters -- shotguns, blunderbuss, hunting rifles by the Hunters Guild, etc.

Powers seem interesting. Players should really only have two powers starting off though.
Speak the Mother Tongue seems kind of.. weak? I'm not sure how it'd be used frequently compared to the other two.

Healing Crystals is a nice power, but due to how the Strikes System works should probably be clarified to remove a Strike instead of 'healing minor wounds'. Saving someone's life is perfectly in character for the power and balanced if you lose it afterwards.

So I've been considering the defenses of Atlantis itself, and I think I've come up with an interesting idea.

The Shield of the city is powerful, and can stop an endless attack by sea creatures, but Ursula herself could eventually batter it down with the power of the Trident.

What keeps her at bay is not the passive defense of the city but the active defense that is the Leviathan. It is is massive enough to be able to overpower her if it came to blows and its weaponry can hurt her while its thick armor can shrug off multiple trident hits before it takes damage.

What keeps Leviathan from giving Atlantis complete dominance over the seas is the fact that it is appears to be damaged. The Imperial Republic has managed to uncover a handful of the old commands, but it does not respond; remaining in passive City Defense mode.

The only thing that it does appear to recognize is a sound signal that Atlantean subs and airships can broadcast, a sort of sonic IFF identifying them as friendly. The downside to this system is that it takes time to warm up and tune properly, meaning that the process should be started before entering Leviathan's range. The other down-side is that sea creatures can hear the pulses for miles around, so any Atlantean vehicle approaching the city loses the advantage of stealth.

It is not uncommon, then, for Ursula to send some of her most dangerous creatures to wait just outside the Leviathan's territory and try to ambush returning Submarines. This had lead to the return home actually being considered the most dangerous part of any voyage, as more subs have been lost this way than any other.

Point of order: we shouldn't allow ROBUSTNESS! to be used for guns and rifles. Javelins, rocks and throwing knives, sure, but being more precise with a shotgun thanks to your muscles breaks the narrative.

Let's talk about bows and crossbows. I think they should both rely on Agility, but that bows would need a minimum ROBUSTNESS! to be used, while crossbows would be slower. Like, it would take one action or two to recharge them.

Weapons should give a small bonus to Melee or Ranged, but nothing more complex like reach: a fighter should be able to switch between weapons without thinking too much about it (unless of course he specialized in a specific weapon).

Perhaps for fun, we could talk about how each hero failed, and their fate?

>Miguel and Tulio: after denying the human sacrifices, they are found out, and sacrificed them selves along with Chel. They are all interred into giant statues alive, each depicting their likeness. These statues are eventually animated and serve as Tzekel-tans personal guards

Anna: After stopping Hans from killing Elsa and getting frozen, Anna remains frozen for quite some time, before being rediscovered by Elsa. In desperation(not love), she animates statue ala Olaf in a hope to return her sister, but insteads only creates a faux version of her made up of the bits and scraps of their interaction. Horrified by what she did, she fled and began to spiral even deeper into her madness. The now sentient Anna statue wanders around the ruins of Arendelle castle, looking for the memories that might make her perfect in her creators eyes

Mowgli: After teaching King Louie nature of the Red flower, he flees into the wasteland. Baloo tries to rescue him from Sher Khan, but by the time Bagheera arrives, both are corpses and Sher khan is feasting on Mowgli. Over come with rage, Baheera and Sher Khan clash through the wasteland. Although weaker then him, Bagheera is able to bite off one of Sher khans ears and disfigure Khans's face. Now angry and Tired of this sharade, Shere Khan goes in for the kill. Bagheera expects the worse and accepts his fate, but is saved by the timely intervention of the Vultures.

Belle: after fleeing from the burning and ruined castle of the beast, she wanders deep into the faelands where she meets the enchantress who originally placed the curse upon the beast. Telling her that beast had found love, but died from the foolishness and cruelty of Gaston and the villagers, the Enchantress bestowed upon Belle what she desired most: Revenge. As the green mist envolped her, Belle faded away, and with the twisted laughing of the fae, a new beast emerged.
>>
On the subject of Ghibli spirits:
As long as I can pretend they're just regular ancestor spirits, I'm fine with it. Use a generic Spirit template, and let me keep it or refluff it as I please. That way, both the Ghiblifags AND the Disneyfags get what they want. Compromise, ladies and gents.

Strong Guys like Gaston alway use shotguns, yes, but we never see them actually hit something with them.

Still, we should probably make a connection between them. Maybe shotguns give a very high bonus to hit, but they also need a very high ROBUSTNESS! to be used.

This way the result is still pretty much the same, but it's conceptually more acceptable. It also rewards Strong Guys that didn't dump Agility, so that's good.
>>
>>36083201
Ooh, idea regarding Anna:
People resurrected by Elsa after she uses her powers have parts of their personality for a while. However, their minds deteriorate just as hers did. Those who are aware of this typically seek to kill Elsa, or force her to destroy them - it's her power that animates them, so if she dies then they can die as well. However, if they're too late, what's left goes as well, and they basically go hollow and become Frostwights. (Alternate names will be considered.)
>>
>>36083210
Well they're nature spirits that resemble Wolves. If you can make that work as ancestor crap, then go for it.

'sup guys I'm finally back here to help-- Aww, hell, we're on autosage.

Well, before the new thread starts, Imperial Houses anon here. I was thinking about making some characterization for each sucessor of the Twleve Imperial Houses in China, just so the politics game can actually be applied better. The spirits can come in too many forms, so I'll let the GMs decide what kind of spirits they want to be the ancestors.

I was thinking about dividing the ancestors into good and evil just so it will be easier for the parties to decide; twelve options is a whole lot.

Anybody got ideas?
>>
>>36083201
I think we should leave hero's fates to the games DM. Let them decide what happened to the heroes and how that works into the story
>>
>>36083210
The way I see it, Ghibli stuff, especially the Princess Mononoke stuff, already is regular Japanese mythology. Hell, call them Spirits of the Land or something, make it non-specific in order to open the possibility of other mythologies in other areas. That way, there'll always be something for the Hunters to hunt, and for the PCs to fight without interfering in politics (if they don't want to for whatever reason).

Two thoughts driving home:

Healing Crystals could also be used also to passively prevent strikes from being accrued by disease in general, can remove strikes caused by light wounds, and prevent a character death by heavy wounds or disease.

Speaking the Mother Tongue's name should be changed to Atlantean Omniglot because it sounds funnier. The idea behind it would be that an Atlantean character could conceivably speak any language and read any language if familiarized with the alphabet. It might be more of a flavor power, but is one specifically from the movie that I feel strongly could be a lot of fun.
>>
>>36083292
I'm with this. There's way too many varied fates that can happen to them.

I'd still like to do something with the Power of Love, since this is Disney.

Special buffs? Allow for re-rolls? Grant a temporary bonus strike?
>>
>>36083224
You don't need to be strong to use them but if you aren't strong enough, recoil is gonna be a fucking bitch. Big Weapons have a minimum ROB threshold. If you're below that threshold you roll 1D6. Subtract one from your roll for every point below the threshold you are. And the there's some sort of chart that shows you what happened.

6: (Unobtainable)
5: You manage to control the recoil without incident.
4: The weapon slips from your hands delaying the time until you can make another shot
3: The recoil throws your shot off completely adding a negative effect on your chance to hit
2: You fumble and drop the weapon. It takes much longer before you can next fire, the weapon is damaged (if we have a way to model that) and your shot goes wide.
1: The weapon smacks you in the face. Deduct one strike.

Or something like that.

Why woulld Disney be bothered by this if we are just having some fun? We aren't going to try to sell this and it'll just be free for anyone to see on the 1d4 page

I agree. I like the idea of an animated Ice Anna being like Olaf in that she is bumbling and goofy, and think that she ought to be very much aware that she isn't the real Anna but a golem playing the roe of her. I think that it could possibly have some pretty great black humor potential:

>"How was my performance? Was I convincing? There are just so few people around these days who remember what Anna was like, and you knooooooooooooooooooooooow I can't just ask Elsa for pointers on being her sister 'cause then she'll just frump and grump and sulk and drop the temperature another few degrees. Snow Queen? More like Draaaaaaaaaaaama Queen!"

Okay, take out the analogy for freezing. Let's just put it this way: Magical constructs deteriorate. You can prevent this by keeping them in a non-deteriorating environment. Elsa does this with Olaf's body with his own snow cloud, and with her Snowlems by attaching them to herself mentally. Minds and personalities created solely by magic will deteriorate over time. Olaf hadn't started decaying by the end of the film, but you create a creature that can live forever with the mind of a human (or most of the mind of a human) and they'll go nuts eventually.
>>36083700
>dat second one from the left
Oh damn
>>
>>36083748

Elsa just controls ice, dude

Let's not make her powers too complex, there's no need for that. The snow monsters and people she creates come to life but that's pretty much it.

Wasn't there an old movie about two kids making a snowman that came to life, anyway?
>>
>>36083630
But the snowlems and the true ice people are basically the same. I guess the people who are just frozen over would eventually fall apart mentally, but for beings like Olaf or the Fake Anna, I see no reason for them to deteriorate, especially when they have little of a mind to begin with.

Perhaps thats the difference, True Snolems like Marshmallow, Olaf and Ice Anna need to have a part of Elsa activelly keeping them alive and sentient, while the Hallowed can remain sentient without Elsas magic, but eventually they fade out and become mindless like te cauldron born

Can we not make it obvious that it's Ghibli? As said, not all of us want Ghibli in our Disney, but we're happy as long as we keep it vague and keep it fluffable. Well, I am, anyway.
>>
>>36083748
But that takes hundreds and hundreds of years. If were going by Hans still being alive, they should be stable enough by the time the players get there

You can fluff them out however you like. Don't worry, anon.

I have the land labeled as "Shinto Spirits" with the leader and film as Shishigami and Princess Mononoke. The exact nature of the place could be DM discretion, especially since the spirits are pretty isolationist

meh, in a setting where immortality is a thing hundred of years could not matter much. Hans, being a capable leader and rather handsome, might be kept alive by Grimhilda so she doesn't have to deal with getting a new governor for her territories.
>>
Can someone explain Frollo's distribution? Why does he randomly have Paris way out in the middle of the Faerie? Why does he have a few nothing realms around the coast? Why is Rome at the edge of his realm instead of its heart?

Less lazy and more the fact that Hans has kissed ass like he has never kissed ass before to get where he is. If he died of old age Grimhilde would have to look far and wide to find a noble halfway as sycophantic as he is.

because he's Parisian, but also the Pope

The best kind of immortality: laziness is reliable.

Europe needs some improvements, especially Frollo's lands.

There needs to be a major Catholic/Islam border for a start and it doesn't make much sense for the Germanic/Frankish Faerie to be anywhere in Hispania.
>>
>>36083989
Frollo owns all of France and Northern Italy de jure, but outside of Paris and the italian coast, the land is controlled by Maleficent
>>
One thing that occured to me. Two, actually.

One, when is the next thread?

Two, how is Frollo keeping up with all the magicm umbo jumbo LITERALLY in every direction from him? I know his Inquisition is badass, but without some anti-magical crap they are going to just get fucked.

Is their Fire magical in some way and just fucks over magic things? At least Maleficent, since iron and fire were said to be the weaknesses of spirits and fae?
>>

He's the Anti Pope Victorious, of course.

Frollo's a Chibibug worshiping litch, who keeps the trappings of catholocism
>>
>>36084021
It's noted that Frollo claims dominion over all of France, but outside of the major cities the Fey have far more day-to-day control than he does.

An inquisitor possibly coming to MAYBE visit your village once a year is far less scary than the spirits that you know live in the woods just outside of town year round, after all.

I agree with >>36084029 partially though. He should definitely have uncontested control over the south of France and Northern Iberia
>>
>>36084038
Chernobog is secretly controlly him under the guise of God.
>>
>>36084029
It's just where the faerie are roaming around now. There are no good fey keeping the nasties in check.

>>36084038
Next Thread ready to launch at page 7.
Fey don't like fire or the cauldron-mist in northern france.
>>
>>36084021
Right but how the hell can he afford to maintain control of Paris when he has to haul ass through inhospitable faerie realms just to communicate with it. Either Paris is taken by the Fae or at least it goes independent of Frollo simply because he can't communicate with the people there.

I get that he's French but it makes no sense just to randomly hand him Paris.

Why not Catholic-looking Satanism?
All the big golden bling, only with pentagrams instead of crucifixes.
>>
>>36084038

He's a lich devoted to the Cult of Chernobog, but also a powerful alchemist on his own.

He was one in the Animated Series, right? I'm not the only one to remember that, right?
>>
Are we really having Frollo worship Chernabog? Really?

I feel like that's kinda crapping on his character. IN the movie he was incredibly zealous of his faith and even as he was about ot sword Quasimodo he was quoting the bible.

I think it's a cheap way out to just say "eh, he swiched sides"

I mean, come on, the guy's a Lich. Maybe he IS a lich because of a gypsy curse, and now he employs counter-runes in all of his Inquisition's weapons?

The guy's lost his faith in God. It happened after he realized no ammount of praying would deal with his lust. He cried out for help from anybody, he was so desperate. Somebody answered. Somebody as sick of God as he was. That somebody was Chernabog.
>>
>>36084116

He just realized that Chernobog was the real God all along. The God of Bible keeps killing people with fire and plague, after all.
>>
>>36084116
Yeah, fuck Devil worship. Frollo is the only thing stopping Jafar from raping Europe.

Butthurt Christians can't handle a religious villain and are desperate to turn him into a Satanist.

Actually, no. It's just that having Frollo as a Chernabog-worshipping Lich is really cool. Not to mention he was already losing his faith, so he'd have lost it completely after a while. You know he would have.

So....

Do we have rules for breaking out into song? If this is the Disneyverse, singing has to be a thing?
