Nothing big today, might run longer, might not, we’ll see.

It is with a flash that you once more appear in the safe area created by your Goddess friend/lover/eldritch abomination. This time you appear not with one of your harem members, but with Irisviel, the personification of your house. Kaname is there too, but you’d already rescued her so that wasn’t what the most important thing was.

However it seemed you had a guest, as when you reappeared there was also a little girl with Irisviel. One that looked very similar, even as she shouted…

“Mommy!” said the little girl, suddenly turning and latching onto Irisviel, who nearly squeals in happiness herself.

“Illya!” she says, even as your entire harem gathers around to watch the reunion.

You can’t help but smile as the two…reunite, you really need to get back to a world where everything makes sense.

It is to your surprise as Irisviel suddenly looks up to you and Kaname, who are both standing close to her, tears in her eyes.

“You…you got her back…” she says, standing and moving close to you, “I don’t…I can’t thank you enough.”

You start to open your mouth to say that it wasn’t a big deal, but she suddenly reaches out and grabs your head. She pulls you close, her mouth pressing against yours in an amazingly long kiss that leaves you stunned, but not too stunned to see her do the exact same thing to Kaname, who flails about a little until she lets go.

“Thank you…thank you,” she says, going back to hugging her daughter.

You blink a couple of times before turning as your friend taps you on the shoulder.

(Do you want to finish this John?) she asks you, (Or should we go back now?)

By the way, before the return to Johnny's show, there were a few items on the checklist.

>Chris's 3rd scene (low-prio, probably lost the boon by now since we went this far)
>Tatsuko's family (needed to give the cuddlezerker permanent member status)
>Nanoha's concern about Fate (just a talk regarding whether she would want Fate to "see as she sees")
>>
>>36099139
“Last one,” you say, nodding to your friend.

(Very well,) says your friend, smiling at you with that mysterious grin she always has, (I shouldn’t have expected anything else from you.

“Yeah well,” you say, shrugging, “What can I say, I’m a thorough dude.”

She just smiles at you, before leaning down for the light kiss that always precedes you traveling to another world.

You come to by yourself, standing on a modern looking castle battlement. In front of you stand Imca and a silver haired woman, both of them standing stiffly as if they’re enemies.

Imca seems to be yelling at the woman for something…destroying her village is what you manage to gather. The woman doesn’t seem to be all that eager to fight, but you aren’t sure how aware Imca is at the moment. They aren’t trading blows, at least not yet.

I don't know much of Valk 2-3, but I seem to recall that Imca's pursuit of Selvaria was singular. Stepping in front of her would likely not dissuade her, and only put us in the crossfire.

You’re pretty sure you left all of your fucks back in your normal world, because you haven’t found any recently and you certainly don’t have any at the moment.

Stepping out of the slight shadows you were hidden in, you move between the two of them just as Imca stops yelling at the woman, who is apparently not too concerned about Imca attacking her. Meaning she’s either accepted being curb-stomped or she has no doubt she could defeat the blue haired girl if she wanted to. Somehow you don’t get the feeling it’s the first one.

Imca’s eyes dart to you, even as the woman looks at you with a hint of curiosity, wondering what the hell you’re doing in the middle of them.

“So…” you say, “Any chance that I could convince the two of you not to fight?”

Imca’s eyes burn brightly at you, clearly not recognizing you as someone she should listen to.

“She destroyed my village, killed my family!” she yells at you, “No one will stand in my way!”

“I do not wish to fight,” says the woman, almost sighing, “For the outcome is already decided. If you can convince her to leave, you will have no trouble from me.”

Well…that settles that at least.

Now you just have to deal with the angry girl with the big gun pointed at you.

“Imca…” you say to her, “Put the gun down.”

She shakes her head at you, blinded by rage.

“NO!” she yells, “SHE WILL DIE! THAT IS MY GOAL IN LIFE! REVENGE FOR ALL OF THEM!” She hefts the gun up to a firing position. “MOVE OR DIE!”

Welp. You know have an angry girl about to shoot you and one who clearly doesn’t want to fight behind you.

You don’t move. You’re already here so you might as well stick to your guns.

You see Imca’s face tremble, you’re clearly not one of the enemies she’s used to fighting, but you are in between her and the one woman she seems to hold a massive grudge against. Normally you think anyone standing in between her and the woman behind you would be dead in an instant.

But you see hesitation in her eyes, something you don’t think would happen if she didn’t remember at least a little bit. So you step closer. She trembles a little bit, the gun jittering just slightly.

“You tried to shoot me once before Imca,” you say, taking another step, “It didn’t work then and I don’t think you want to do it now.”

You take another step closer, the gun wavering more.

“Revenge never solves anything Imca, if you kill her you’ll be just as lacking for something in your life as if you decided to let go.”

“No!” she says, even though you can tell she almost doesn’t believe herself, “I can’t!”

“Yes you can,” you say, reaching your hand out to the barrel of her gun and pushing it down, “I know you can. You remember me, don’t you? Put the gun down, come with me, I know how much you like it when I cook a big breakfast, I promise that I’ll make you a big one once we get back.”

Imca fights as you push her gun down, at least until you reach out and put a hand on her shoulder. Then you see the fog lift out of her eyes, recognition coming over her.

“John…” she says, even as the gun falls limp in her hands, “What…where…?”

“I’ll explain later,” you say, smiling at her and patting her shoulder, “But what matters most is that you’re safe now.”

“T-thanks,” she says, cheeks heating up a little.

Turning to the woman behind you, you see her looking at you almost pensively.

“You are quite charismatic,” she says, her eyes judging you, “To have made her stand down like that.”

You smile just a bit.

“Maybe,” you say, “But I had some help.”

“Still,” she says, her eyes dropping, “You remind me of his Grace. Except…kinder.” She turns to look over the wall. “The sun comes…along with my end. Leave stranger, take your friend. I will call off my troops.” She turns to look at Imca, “Live your life well Darcsen, maybe you still have time to learn, unlike me.”

It’s here that you realize the entire time you’ve been talking that there were distinctive pops and cracks of firearms discharging in the distance, accompanied by the occasional explosion. Someone must be fighting.

Even as you hear the fighting below, you can’t help but wonder what the woman is talking about.

“What do you mean by your end?” you ask her.

She turns to you, face serious.

“My end,” she says, “Death, oblivion. That is what I mean. Thanks to the circumstances we find ourselves in, His Grace has decided that I am to use my final flame in his service shall we fail to stop the Gallians here.” She looks back over the battlements.

“But they are out there, so I do not give much hope to that. I will at least go down with a fight.” You notice a wicked looking machine gun leaning against the wall near her. She might be talking about that.

“You’re going to give your life because you can’t win?” you say to her, “Because someone else asked you to?”

“Yes,” she says, “It is His Grace’s wish and I shall carry out his will to my last breath.”

Her face doesn’t waver as she says this, but you can tell she doesn’t actually want to do what she’s saying. There’s a sadness around her, her voice and carriage. You don’t understand.

If someone has to spend multiple hours reading backlogs to understand where the quest is, you're doing it wrong. That's a full campaign, not a single quest.

A quest is as long as it takes. You're thinking of a one-shot. If you don't like it you can always git >>>/out/
>>
>>36101135
Point one, this quest is newbie accessible.
Point two, archive and readily available supplemental material (Char sheet, list of NPCs, mechanics...gotta love pastebin)
Point three, the whole point of traditional gaming is getting a group of people together for the purpose of having fun, collective gaming over the Internet just makes the potential pool of players and passive participants that much larger. 4Chan is pretty ideal for that kind of a game.

Look, I'm not saying you're wrong about there being better options out there, but when it comes to fast phased games with fairly active participants I think this is a pretty good place to be.

Well that's an interesting take. So as long as the game has no stated end goal or is set to run for a finite number of threads it can't be considered a "quest" and is therefore fine for posting on /tg/?
Pretty sure that's not what you meant, but it's what you sort of implied.

What I'm getting so far is that your main concern is the number of threads a quest ends up spanning, and not really how accessible the OP makes summaries of events, background and setting information, inventories and other useful material that might take a while to search the archive for. Is that right? Can't really have a conversation if you aren't on the same page so I really want to make sure I know where you're coming from.

“That’s a needlessly stupid and cruel order,” you say immediately, clearly shocking her, “Anyone who would give such an order deserves such loyalty as you show.”

“His Grace saved my life…” she starts, but you interrupt.

“That does not give him the right to tell you to throw it away!” you suddenly shout, shocking her a bit, “A saved life does not equal a life given! It is your choice and yours alone! If you wish to dedicate your life for someone that is up to you, but to dedicate it to the point that you should die for something so stupid, as damn petty as to what? Kill more of the winners even as you lose? That is beyond stupidity! Fight woman, you’re supposed to rage against the dying of the light, not go quietly into the night!”

Even as you say this, you feel forces swirl around you, your power manifesting itself as pure rage at the absolute stupidity of this world. You feel it fighting against the worlds plot, dragging curling…until it finally snaps, with maybe the help of your friend smiling down upon you.

The woman seems shocked that you would speak to her like that, though she doesn’t seem to reject what you said out of hand.

She stares at you hard.
>>
>>36101135
I jumped in halfway, feels good man
>>
>>36101588

“What would you have me do stranger?” she demands, “Leave my men, run away and leave them all to die like dogs? Abandon my duty?”

“If you feel so strongly about your men but know you’re going to lose then why fight?” you say, “Is final victory coming soon if you resist?” You don’t even need her to say anything to see the answer to that.

“So I should surrender,” she says, seemingly beaten down by your words, at least for the moment, “Surrender to those who hate me, would lock me up like an animal and treat me almost as bad as those before.” She looks up at you. “Is that what you think stranger?”

“No,” you say, “I don’t think that. But I don’t think you should make your men die for nothing.”

“Then what would you have me do?” she asks, “Run? Live life as a fugitive?”

“No,” you say, offering your hand out to her, “Come with me, I can take you to a place where nothing like what you speak of will ever happen again. I promise.”

She blinks.

“What?” she says.

“Come with me,” you say once more, “I can and will protect you. Your life doesn’t have to end here.”

She stares at you, unmoving and unspeaking.

Then Imca speaks up.

“He did it for me,” she says, drawing the woman’s attention to her, “He protected me and my friend from forces much larger than his own. He speaks the truth. Come with us…find your own path in life like I must. It is only fair.”

You’re not sure why, but for some reason the woman begins to laugh. It is a light thing, almost against the image you have made of her.

“So that’s it?” she says in the middle of her laughing, mirth fading out, “Since I have forced you to live your life you now demand the same thing from me?”

“Yes,” says Imca, “John doesn’t promise what he can’t deliver.”
>>
>>36101605
“Fine,” says the woman, turning towards you, “I will take your offer, as far as you can make it.” She leans and hefts the machinegun over her shoulder. “Lead on Mr. John.”

“It’s Galt,” you say, “John Galt. Nobody calls me Mr. anything.”

“Very well John,” says the woman, “My name is Selvaria Bles, I will follow where you lead.”

“Actually,” you say to her, looking around, “I think you should lead, I don’t know the way out.”

Selvaria’s nostrils flare at this.

“An auspicious start to our partnership,” she says, turning towards a set of stairs.

“If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s delegating to those who know better than me,” you say, “Not running off like a loon.”

The woman glances at you over her shoulder, giving you a thoughtful look.

“We shall see,” she says.

She leads you down the stairs and out the gate, calling out for her men to cease firing and fall back, which they do.

“To the Gallian Army!” she calls out, “We seek a parley!”

The group remaining outside the gate ceases firing, some whispering going on between them as they see all of you together, standing near the gate.

“We acknowledge your parley!” says one of the men from the group, “What do you wish to speak of?”

Selvaria turns to you, wondering what you wish to say. You can see Riela in the group, she appears to have wide eyes, but you’re not sure if it’s because she recognizes you or because of who you’re with.

>We wish to surrender.
>We wish to talk with one of your members.
>Let Selvaria speak.
>Let Imca speak.
>Other.

I take no issue with the existence of quest threads. My problems are when the "quest" becomes a never ending story line that only caters to a select group that have been immersed in it for a significant period of time and if the quest requires external resources/reading from participants. Personally, I would like to see short, well-defined quests. When they've reached their "conclusion," I think it would be perfectly reasonable to set up an IRC room or something similar if participants want to carry it farther in the future. That way the people who are interested in it get more interactivity and people who aren't interested in it (let's be honest, if you've seen 10 threads about the same quest and haven't bitten yet, why would you after that point?) don't have to deal with it anymore.

Of course, this is all one person's (wrong) opinion. Simply take it into consideration.

“We wish to speak to one of your team-members,” you shout, before pointing at Riela.

You see the group around her whispering, some clearly against it, but some apparently for it since they are arguing back and forth. It only takes a minute for them to decide, before Riela stands and begins walking towards the three of you.

“You will meet halfway,” shouts the man, “No tricks or we will open fire.”

“No tricks,” you say back, waving as the three of you begin walking towards Riela as well.

It becomes clear as you approach, that Riela is not only aware, she is actively happy to see you.

“Hey there guys,” she says to you and Imca, “It’s ver good to see you but what is she doing here?” You can see her almost reaching for a gun of other weapon that isn’t at her side.

“She’s coming with us when we leave,” you say, causing her to start a little.

“She’s coming with us?” she says, glancing between the three of you.

Imca nods in affirmative, even as Selvaria watches Riela closely.

“Ok, so how do we get out of here?” asks Riela, “Because I certainly don’t know how.”

Everyone looks at you.

You look at Selvaria, then turn back to Riela.

“First we give Selvaria a chance to ask her men to surrender,” you say to them, “Then we’ll figure something out.”

Selvaria looks at you as you turn to her.

“You are serious about this,” she says to you.

“Very,” you say, “I always keep my promises.”

She nods, before turning to the many men who are looking down at you from the walls.

“Men of the Empire!” she calls out to them, “You have fought valiantly over these many months. You were with me as we led our unstoppable vanguard deep into Gallia!”

As she speaks, you begin to see the men watching her, wondering where this is going.

“But you were also with me as we began to be pushed back,” she continues, voice now less jubilant than before, “During the many months of bitter fighting and defeat.”

You see the whispering growing amongst the men.

“Naggiar was supposed to be our great victory,” Selvaria continues, a wreath of blue flame now enveloping her wrist, “I was supposed to lead you to it myself, the power of the Valkyrur heralding our victory.” You see her stop and grimace.

“But my power was not enough! The Gallians had a Valkyria of their own and I was defeated to my great shame. Now the Gallians wait outside Ghirlandaio, prepared to take it from us, but only at the cost of many lives on both sides.”
>>
>>36103534
You see the men stare at her.

“In the end victory will not be ours,” she says, clearly shocking many of the men on the wall, if not from the statement from the fact she admitted it.

“The Gallian’s outmatch us, this is the simple truth,” she says, clearly hating to admit that, “And Prince Maximillian has left us to our fate. I ask you to throw down your arms, for your deaths will serve no purpose here. But if you live, you will have much to give once this war is over, like it will be in a short time.”

You see every man on the battlement looking back and forth.

“I offer myself as the first,” she says, handing you her machine-gun, “Let it be known that no man of the Empire surrendered before there commander did as well.”

There’s a brief silence from the walls.

“Open the gates!” she yells once more, “Open the gates and surrender yourselves so that you may do the Empire as much good in the future as you have in the past! Do not waste your lives in vain!” she stands tall, even as she asks this of her men.

“This is my last act as your commander,” she says, “I hope to see all of you in the future, so that we may serve together once more. To the honor of the Emperor.”

With that, she turns stiffens her back, watching her men for their response.

At first they don’t move, too stunned by what she had said. But then one off to the side of the gate moves. He raises his rifle, previously held low in his hands, and tosses it over the edge of the wall, letting it clatter to the ground in pieces. As he does so, you see dozens, then almost every one of them throw their weapons over the edge. A few set them down on the wall, even as the gate begins to creak open.

Selvaria turns towards the squad behind you.

“The Imperial Garrison at Ghirlandaio would like to discuss terms of surrender,” she calls to the clearly stunned group, “All of which will be discussed under a cease-fire and continuation of the parley.”

With that, you see her finally go limp, body sagging as the last of her duties is completed.

You move closer to her, setting one of your hands on her shoulder.

“You’ve done a good thing,” you say to her, “You saved many lives this day, just as yours was.”

She doesn’t move at first, but then you see her nod.

“Thank you…John,” she says, just before the four of you disappear in a flash of light.

>Scene complete. Scene successful.
>Bonus objective complete.

With a flash, you come too in a null space, but this one is different than the other. This one only holds you and your friend, the Goddess.

(You have done it John,) she says, her smiling face directed at you like always, (You have saved everyone. I am sorry it took this long, but in the end I believe it was worth it to you.) She gestures to the world you seem to be floating over, yours.

(I will send you back shortly,) she says, (But before that I wanted to tell you this. Our enemy has been weakened by your successes. But you must remember that you need to watch out for any actions against you until we meet for the final battle, which may be closer than you think. Do not dally, enjoy your life. But continue your vigilance.)

She smiles a little wider here.

You shake your head, “swimming” towards her in the void.

“No,” you say to her, “Nothing I want to ask.”

You reach arm’s length from her, reaching out and pulling her closer by her hip.

“Though I would like to thank you for all that you’ve done for us,” you say, wrapping your arms around her curvy form.

You look up at her to see a blush on her face.

(I…) she shivers a little bit, even as a room somehow appears around you, (I didn’t…)

“I know,” you say leading her over to the bed that has appeared, “But I still want to. Without you…I would’ve lost everything.”

She doesn’t say anything after that, though you don’t think she needs to.

You are very thorough with your affectins, much more than the first time you spent together. You don’t know how much time you spent with her, but it doesn’t matter either, as without her you truly would have lost everything. This is just a small part of what you need to thank her for.

After whatever amount of time you spent with her, both of your tired bodies intertwined with each other, you feel her stir against you.

(Thank you,) she says to you, smiling.

“No, thank you,” you say, hugging her warm, naked body close to yours.

(It is time you went back,) she says, leaning up towards you.

“Will I see you again?” you ask her.

(Oh yes,) she says to you smiling, (I will make sure of it.)

There’s a final flash as she kisses you.

You come to...holding a doorknob.

It’s the doorknob to your house.

After such a long time you…

You feel tears come to your eyes. You aren’t sure what they’re from, but you feel moisture begin to form in the corner of your eyes.

Suddenly you hear a loud thumping and thudding coming from within.

You throw open the door, worry on your face just in time to see… every last member of your harem trying to fit down the hallway, most of them doing a pretty good job of it.

You are hit by a wave of girls, some laughing, some crying, some just eager to see you return. You even catch a glimpse of Selvaria and Akitsu standing there, a little stunned, before you go down.

It should hurt, it really should hurt to have so many girls on top of you at once.

But it doesn’t, it feels good, it feels amazing it feels…

Like home.

Alright guys, calling it here.

Despite the interruption in the middle, we finally managed to finish this arc, which took just a bit longer than I'd intended.

Won't be doing something like that again.

Anyway, next time on Harem Protag quest, we get back to having fun, flirting with our harem and living in places that don't have vague shadows dancing on everything.

Questions comments concerns like normal, next thread probably next Tuesday.

Too. Fucking. Comfy.

Nah we're good, we have an angel bonus to physical right now so our ribs have hit 9000% waifu load bearing.

If I didn't already know we're going after the fuck who did this, I'd say that looked like a wonderful "Good End".

Thanks for the thread Guide. Great as usual & looking forward to next time.
>>
>>36104311
So what would have happened if we had stuck with the 1?
>>
>>36104311
That was a hell of a journey you took us on Guide. I hope we get some good comfy relaxation next thread.

What is the point of crit fails if you can pay pp to not have them happen?
>>
Can't wait for next thread when we discover that second house has popped into existance next to ours because Ilya.

They are a finite resource is why. Plus it's not a good idea to use them wily nily. They are kind of important.

Fight. She'd have been pissed, turned into a Valkyria and tried to Alpha Strike you. Could have succeeded based on rolls.

>>36104467
It still hurts you with the PP loss.

I haven't included anything like fate points, so I figure this is a fair trade.
>>
>>36104467
PP is like the source code of the universe. We can use it to do just about anything, or force just about anything to happen. Anything that costs PP is very expensive, that's why we only get so much of it.

It's also sort of our blood, so if we lose too many we might die.

>>36104569
Getting back to normal shenanigans will be fun. We owe the girls a LOT of dates. And that oil massage. And that dinner.
>>
I just have one question:

we are using the boons left to bring Tatsuko's family back, allong with other people dears to our girls, right?
>>
>>36104665
Of course, John's a man of his word. He's not only a cuddleslut, he'll do his damnedest to make people happy.

We paid 5 pp to get like a 40 point buff to a roll just earlier in this thread. I just feel like spending pp makes rolling very cheap. There is no reason to have less than a 90 at all, as we essentially get our pick of the first 10 rolls.

And saying it is finite isnt really truthful. We get what, 30 per thread now? Its not really a situation where we are going to run out before the quest is over, even if we keep spending at this rate.
>>
>>36104699
It was 5 for a 14 point buff, which was the roll immediately afterwards.

I'm not saying that the system isn't wonky or that it would actually make a good table top, but at this point, it's pretty much the tone of the quest, kick ass, hang with your girls, have fun.
>>
>>36104737
I feel like thats one of the problems Im having. At the start of the quest, it was like navigating a minefield, trying to get everything to work out without things getting fucked up. When something amazing happened, it actually felt good. When we didnt give a fuck despite the situation, it was a bluff. Now it is just the norm. Stupid power inflation. Im probably just going to drop the quest. I dont have a ton of interest in this kind of thing.
>>
>>36104699
If we spend it willy-nilly we're going to run out. And that 5 pp roll was just a small help. To get out of that crit-fail meant spending 75, which is on the high end of our spending limit.

In the past, we had a crit-fail that caused many reaction images and a few people were mad we went with it, so I think this is a way to smooth those players over.

Also this: >>36104737
>>
>>36104789
I'm sorry to hear that, but I understand.

I do admit that the quest has gotten a little away from me, with said power creep etc.

That said, I'm planning another couple quests after this one that will either be more narrative based or be harder than this one is.

Hope you give em a chance and perhaps read the ending of this, it should be pretty fun/challenging when we get there.

Best wishes.

You know, we've spent a lot of time in places where an extra-powerful entity on our side could influence the Plot in our favor.

Maybe that won't be that easy once we're back at the school
>>
>>36101632
Hey man, feel free to start your own IRC adventure, but I hope you don't mind if absolutely no one takes your advice into consideration.
>>
>>36104789
What's the point of having the power to bend reality if you're not going to use it? I appreciate a challenge, but this quest isn't meant to be some roguelike game where every step you take can be fatal. And this arc has shown that for all our power there are still things beyond our control.

John can get beat to within an inch of his life and then spend PP to get back up and try again. Or you can just spend 100 PP to avoid getting beat up and skip to the conclusion. Same end result, but you resolve the conflict in half the time and get back to what the quest is really about.
>>
>>36105154
Whad saved up like 600-800 PP before this system got put into use. If it had been in from the start / we go low, then suddenly stuff becomes harder.

I don't really care how hard or easy the quest is, I'm in it for the story.
>>
>I'm in it for the story.
Agreed. See you guys next thread.
>>
>>36104311
A little late, but will we have a part next thread where we can explain to Selvaria and Akitsu whats going on? Where they're at etc? Looks like they were just dropped into our world; so I think we should explain a few things/test how their magic works here.
>>
>>36107168
Probably going to do a bit of a time-skip at the beginning of the next thread, have all that happen in the background before you go to the beach.

Okay. Personally speaking, I'd be interested to see how characters from other settings handle our setting; having themselves be dropped in without prior knowledge. It'd be fun to explain to Selvaria and Akitsu that they don't need to kill everything on sight, for example. Or the awkwardness Selvaria would have settling into a seemingly civilian life; and the conflicts with Chris over command decisions.

But I understand that we have so many waifus, and so little time.

Battleship soon?
