Once more, you wake with the first light of dawn over the horizon, though this time all around you is sand and stone.

You feel surprisingly refreshed. The cool night air combined with a full night’s sleep must have been just what you needed. You look around to see your companions have also awoken. Lisa is currently packing up her camping gear, while Riolu is atop some nearby rocks. You’re not sure what he’s doing, but it’s possible that he’s keeping a lookout.

You hasten to get your gear together as well. You were less than a day away from your destination, and you wanted to get out of this desert as soon as possible.

Once everything is in order, you set off. Froakie is once again riding in your pouch to conserve moisture, while Riolu and Bagon are walking alongside you. Lisa has Sentret and Pidgeotto with her, helping keep a lookout for any trouble.

You take a peek into the pouch where Froakie has been sitting. Droplets of water coat your hand as you grip the bag, and looking inside you see the small frog sitting in a small pool of water. The bag is leather and mostly waterproof, allowing him to set up a moist environment for himself. He blinks and covers his eyes at some of the bright light pouring in, so you turn to guard him from the shade.

Foakie gives you a wave, and satisfied that he's doing alright, you shut the bag back and leave the small frog to his peace.

Glancing around, you watch Riolu as he once again practices his jumping skills on nearby rocks as you travel, though he's a bit less excited about it compared to yesterday. Maybe he liked having his race with the other two?

You look over to Bagon, who seems to be rather impatient. He's stomping around as much as he can in the sand, occasionally sniffing at the ground. It's hard to tell, but you think he might be bored.

Confident that your friends are doing fine, you take out the incense you got yesterday, smelling it once again. You focus with your aura, and the effects come to you sooner this time. The strange fuzz that seems to fill the air is there once again. You keep your current pace while your eyes are closed, and its a bit easier this time around.

While it's an interesting effect, you're still not sure what's causing it. It'd probably be useful in a fight, though you doubt your opponent's would give you much chance to take out some incense beforehand. You needed to figure this out

You decide to try out your aura abilities, moving over to one of the larger rock formations by the side of the trail.

You strike your palm forward with aura, watching as it glows brightly and the fuzz in the air seems to pulse around it. As it strikes the rock, it chips off the loser bits of stone, but it doesn't seem to be more powerful than usual.

What stands out to you is the small ripples you see projecting outward through the air. It's almost like what happens when a stone fall into a pond.

You give a few more strikes to make sure, and the ripples keep occurring, though you notice that they seem to occur throughout the motion, and not just at the point of impact. To make sure, you strike the empty air, and watch as the air at the end of the strike pulse outwards away from you.

As you contemplate what to do with this information, the fuzz once again starts to fade away from your sight. It seems the effects are wearing off.

Blinking your eyes open, you can see a hint of green on the horizon. You're almost out of the desert. Judging by the distance, it will likely still take another hour, but you're almost home.

"Yeah," she replies, squinting at the horizon, "I'm feeling much better after getting some sleep. My parents are probably still worried sick though, especially with the blockade going on."

"Shall we go to your parents first when we get back?" you ask.

"Well, I'm sure your parents would be worried to," she mutters, "But if you want to we can."

You give a quick nod as you continue walking forward.

You ask around a bit, making sure to talk to the locals.

The information is mixed overall, but you do manage to get some details. Around a dozen ships, with the flags of Vallough. They hadn't made any demands, but they had declared the blockade itself. For numbers of specific troops, things are all over the place, ranging from several hundred to several thousand. The details on monsters are a bit better, since you confirm that they have a large variety of aquatic monsters, as well as some flying ones. From the sound of things, they didn't have the firepower to take the town, but had more than enough to stop any ships.

After asking for the information, you thank the people for there time, and soon enough you're headed along the road into town. It's a rather short trail, but how much it winds through the hills makes it seem longer.

By the middle of the day, you've arrived in town. Overlooking it, you spy several ships arranged in a line outside the harbor, 12 in total. From here you can't make out much else. A quick peak with aura confirms the ships are outside your range as well.

You decide to head for Lisa's house first.

The streets are rather empty as you head through them. Only a handful of people are about, and the usual clamor has been replaced by an eerie stillness in the air.

Once you arrive at the house, Lisa knocks on the door, and the two of you wait a moment before it opens.

"You're home!" Lisa's mother cries as she bursts out of the door and begins tightly hugging your daughter, "When you weren't on the ship back we were so worried. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine mom," Lisa says as she returns the embrace, "We're both fine."

Lisa's mom looks up to see you standing there, and flashes you a smile.

"Good to see you're alright too Ceil. You two didn't run into too much trouble on your way here?"

"Not too much, no," you reply.

"Where are my manners?" she exclaims, "You two should come inside. We were just about to have lunch."

She ushers the two of you back inside, and the three of you head into the dining area in the back of the house. There you spot Lisa's father as well as her younger brother. The two jump up from their seats to welcome Lisa home, and you step aside and wait as they ask her all sorts of questions about the past few weeks.

Lisa's mother returns to the kitchen, most likely to prepare lunch.

"So Ceil," Lisa's father turns to you, "I must say I was a bit surprised when you asked Lisa to come along with you. How was your trip? You two weren't having too much fun I hope?"

"It was great," you begin "We really saw a lot of new things. It was really eye opening seeing the world on my own two feet instead of from a book or a traveler's tale."

"I'll bet," he responds, "There's a whole lot of world out there."

"Yeah, I came across lots of interesting stuff," you say as begin fishing through your pouches and taking out the items you've gathered, explaining some of the history of each. The meteorite you found in the mountains, said to contain a legendary monster. The flute from that mysterious salesmen in the capital city. The bizarre sword you found in the field, though you leave out a few of the details on that one.

"It's certainly been exciting, so much has happened I don't know where to start. That aside though, what's going on with this blockade?"

The smile that had developed on everyone's face fades a bit as you mention the blockade. Lisa's father clears his throat before speaking.

"So far it's been about a week," he starts, "The just showed up out of the blue and declared that no ships would be allowed to enter or leave the harbor. They sank the first ship that was fool enough to test them, and after that a lot of people started leaving town. We got a lot of business from scared people on the first day, but its dried up since then. I hear your father got together with some of the other big merchants to figure out what they should do while they wait for the army to show up. The only good news is that they haven't attacked the town at all, and nobody else has tried running the blockade. It's at a stand still, but we're the ones suffering for it."

The room lingers in silence a moment longer, but is broken when Lisa's mom comes back into the room, bearing a large pot of stew. She dishes out some to everyone around the table, and lunch begins, quickly lightening the mood as the family catches up on things.

You resolve to investigate the ships before speaking with your father. He might already have a plan to deal with the blockade, but you want to get more information first.

The rest of lunch passes by rather slowly. Lisa seems very happy to be back with her folks. After the stew is gone and lunch finished, you take your leave to visit your family. Lisa opts to stay with her family for now, and so you depart alone.

The streets are once again silent as you make your way to the pier. Gazing at the ships across the harbor, you try and appear nonchalant as you focus on them with aura.

The numbers are rather staggering. Each ship has close to fifty men from what you can tell, as well as quite a few smaller monsters on the deck of each. Some are birds while others are more humanoid crewhands, but you estimate around a dozen of each on each of the ships. In the water itself, you can spot several schools of aquatic monsters, mostly concentrated near the hulls of each boat. The specific numbers are difficult in this case, as you can't easily confirm which are part of the fleet, but you'd say there's at least 100 in total. You notice a pair of much larger specimens as well, long and serpentine. They seem to be circling around the ships and have much stronger auras than the other monsters you've seen. There are a handful of strong auras on the ship as well, though nothing exceedingly so. Most of them have similar auras to the lightning monster that was on your ship when you traveled. If you had to guess, you'd say that most of their power lies within their aquatic monsters, with the rest serving mostly as backup.

With this new information, you head to your house. You knock on the front door, and it soon swings open to reveal your mother.

"Ceil! You're home!" she says, moving in and squeezing you tightly. You're a bit glad that Lisa's not here to see this.

"Good to see you too mom," you reply, "Is dad home?"

"Yes, he's up in his study," she says with a concerned look, "He's been up there a lot lately with all that's been going on."

You thank her before heading upstairs, knocking on the door to your father's study.

"Come in," you hear a voice from within the room say, and you do so.

Your father looks up at you, a smile spreading across his face. He stands to give you a firm handshake clasping his other hand on your shoulder.

"Glad you made it home safe," he says, "When I heard you weren't coming back on the ship, I was a bit worried, but it's good to see you made it through. I'd ask you for some stories, but there's a rather pressing matter I need to resolve."

"The blockade right?" you reply, "I was actually wondering what you were planning on doing. Maybe I could help?"

"Not even back for five minutes and already down to business," he smirks, "If you insist."

The two of you sit down and cover most of what's going on with the situation. Your father has a lot more details on how it specifically affected trade in certain sectors. The general trend of weapons sales going up on the first day then all sales declining over the week seems to be the common factor. The meetings he's already had with the other merchants were mostly discussions on how to keep the town running over the course of the week, and it primarily involved a lot of book-keeping and deals on their parts to keep some semblance of business operating throughout the town.

As for the blockade itself, their only real option was to muster all of the lightning monsters throughout the city, about forty in total, and attempt to take out enough of the aquatic monsters from the shoreline to clear the way for a more direct naval attack.

However, they lacked detailed information on the full numbers of the fleet, and estimates were only getting them so far. The other major problem with the plan is that they lacked a strong fighting force to spearhead the naval attack. If the attack failed, any remaining forces on the ships would probably see fit to start attacking the town in force, which depending on their numbers could quickly go in their favor.

As such, their current hope was for the military to arrive, though with reports of full scale invasion from other areas, sending out a contingent to deal with a blockade was seen as a lower priority. It could be another week before any troops arrive, and several more before enough are present to do anything about it.

You explain to your father about the numbers you saw when you used your aura, which he jots down on a sheet of paper. Going over these details, you confirm that the men on the ships could easily overrun the town if provoked, and the full number of lightning monsters at your disposal might not even be enough to get rid of the sheer number of aquatic monsters.

>>36151982
Yeah, I'm pretty stumped for a plan as well. It's a naval town though, so is it possible the fishermen would know how to stir up a shoal of dangerous aquatic pokemon somehow?

Perhaps if we start out by getting the town's populace ready and prepped to handle an invasion, pitchfork training or something, Iunno, then we could risk an offensive plan.

Or perhaps we could just go try talking it out with the blockade leader. Unlikely to work since it seems to be a small part of an invasion force.

You posit the idea of using fire monsters to burn down the ships, and your father thinks on it a moment. There aren't a large number of fire pokemon in town or in the surrounding wilderness, but some of the blacksmiths and other artisans in town keep a number on hand to help with their work. It'd only be ten or twenty, but if you could get them to the boats they could light them up without issue. The problem after that would be the aquatic pokemon putting out the fires and striking back.

You ask about possibly constructing some siege weaponry, and your father's eyes light up a bit. While it would take quite a bit of work to do secretly, it would significantly boost the odds of the initial plan working. It's unlikely to turn the tide of the battle, but it could help disable or distract the ships to help circumvent their advantage of numbers.

You think to yourself about the sword you found. You still didn't know a lot about it, but you knew it was technically a ghost, whatever that meant. Maybe it had some special properties that could help you win this fight? You'd need to investigate it further though.

You excuse yourself and head outside, intent on figuring out what this sword could do.

You take it out of your bag. It's jeweled hilt still has it's empty eye, and the ropes you tied are still secure.

You try and communicate with it once again, but like the last time, your aura abilities don't seem to affect this thing at all. It's like it isn't even there.

You decide to try using your incense, hopping it might give you a better insight into what it's doing. You watch as the tiny fuzz in the air seems gently float above the edge of the object, sometimes brushing against the rope, but completely avoiding the sword itself. The general flow seems to almost form a pattern, as the particles seem to slip away from the tip of the blade and drift towards the hilt. When you move the blade, the fuzz scatters for a moment before resuming the pattern.

Trying to communicate again yields the same results however.

You blink your eyes open as you weigh your options. Your aura wouldn't let you communicate with this thing, and the only time you could remember it reacting at all was when you grabbed the hilt and it tried to possess you.

The ropes were still securely on it, and Riolu could easily knock you out if anything went wrong.

You were out of options, you gingerly reach out your hand and grasp the hilt.

As you do, the image of your backyard changes, almost becoming duller and more muted. Riolu and the others are still standing there, but their colors also seem a bit faded.

Looking down at the sword, it seems as vibrant as ever. The ropes binding it are still securely in place, though it's blue unflinching eye is now staring directly at you. It's scarf flaps roughly as though blown by some great wind, though you feel nothing of the sort.

Nice, not sure I should risk rolling. Suppose we should continue to use three to keep it fair

You decide to try and see if this thing has any ghostly abilities that you can utilize.

First, you take the sword in your hand. It's rather heavy with the hilt still on it, but you manage it just fine. It gently coils it's scarf into a loop around your hand. It's not tight light the first time, but it would come in handy if you were to drop it.

The next step is to consider what types of things ghosts can do. As you do so, you realize that you don't know a lot about ghosts. They like darkness, you know that much. Maybe you can do something with that?

You glance around at the trees in the yard. The sun is low in the sky, so the shadows are much longer. You position yourself in one, facing away from the tree. You take a fencing stance to fit yourself behind it so no light is shining on you.

The jewel seems to shine just as vibrantly while within the darkness, though you don't notice anything immediately happen. Maybe you need to do something first?

You inhale sharply, thinking back to your fencing lessons. While this sword is a bit heavy for it, you should still be able to preform a basic lunge. You thrust while stepping forward, planting your foot firmly on the ground. You feel the light vanish from your eyes for a moment, as though you blinked, however you're certain you have your eyes wide open. When the light returns, you find yourself much closer to your house. Looking down, you see that your back foot is still within shadow, but the rest of your body is outside of it. Your lunge somehow carried you along the shadow of the tree all the way to the top.

You smile in exhilaration a moment before you feel a sharp pain in your hand. The jewel flickers for a moment before returning to its normal luster.

Yeah, we just need to pair the whole cursed sword thing up with our healing aura and wreck face. If the sword proves too unwieldy to use as a weapon right now we can probably strap it to our back and use it's powers whilst attacking with the glaive

So it seems that using that will require your energy, unless you manage to give it the energy of someone else, which would probably require stabbing them.

Still, you're pretty sure you just warped through a shadow, so you've managed to figure out at least one cool ghost power.

Perfect

So any ideas on what else you can do?

Yeah, wouldn't hurt to ask the sword about it's powers before trying to use them

While this is quite useful, you could always stand to be more prepared. That being said, you're not sure what other sorts of special abilities ghosts could have.

"What other stuff can you do?"

one. to many.

Before you can ask what he means by that, you feel a sharp pain in your hand once again, and your eyesight flashes dark for another moment.

>Ceil HP: 8/10

You glance around, and standing beside you is...you?

There's another you there holding the sword. You tentatively test out some movements, and it follows them exactly.

Riolu walks over, obviously curious as to why there are two of you. He sniffs the air a bit and glances back and forth, before finally closing his eyes. Immediately after he does so, he leaps up and lands on the shoulder of the real you.

Intrigued, you also close your eyes and focus with your aura. Your duplicate doesn't seem to register at all, having the same effect as the sword itself.

You open your eyes again to perform one final test. You swing widely to hit the duplicate with your sword. To your surprise, it passes right through and fades away.

"Anything else?" you ask the sword.

shadow. walk.

one. to many.

sharp. i.

that all.

It seems you've found out all he can do. That said, it's a very impressive list, even if it only consists of two items.

You undo the ropes on his sheath, sliding it off. You spend the next hour practicing with the sword itself. It feels much lighter without the sheathe, and your fencing experience allows you to wield it acceptably.

Confident in your ability to use it, you head inside, where it seems you're just in time for dinner.

And that's where I'm gonna call it tonight. Thanks for participating. As always, I'll be here a bit longer for any questions or comments.

Thanks for running. So far I'm thinking we shadow-walk onto a ship and sabotage it. Light up the supplies or something and move onto the next ship. Should really put a dampener on their retaliation efforts
>>
>>36153438
Thanks for running. It was quite a lot of fun. I'm super hyped about the sword

the problem is that for now the shadow clone copies our moves, so it won't be that useful out of combat
now, if we can train enough for it to have a great range and control it and our body separately...
>>
>>36153552
Well it's worth testing to see if the clone can actually cut things too, if it's just an illusion that's still super handy but acts primarily as a distraction.

right.
