“Sarah we have to go!” you shout, but she remains unresponsive.

She lightly runs her hand through Glen’s hair. Her long blonde hair hides her face. Her shoulders are slumped in defeat.
Glen lies on the floor with a peaceful look on his face, which allows the foolish thought that he’s merely sleeping to pass through your head.

“He’s not sleeping. I’m not sleeping” you say quietly to yourself.

You see the shapes of lizardmen approaching in the distance, there’s at least a dozen of them.

“Sarah!” you pull on her arm, imploring her to move. She doesn’t respond.
“Glen wouldn’t want you to die!” you tug on her body to pull her away from Glen. She pushes you off of her.
Sarah looks at you emptily with tear soaked eyes. “Leave me, Alena. I’m not going anywhere.” She turns back to Glen and smiles gently. “I will not leave you.”

The lizardmen have reached you, all of them fully armed. Your hand tightens around your sword.

You inhale and exhale deeply then stand fully erect. A strange calm has come over you, leaving your thoughts blank besides the will to fight.

“Then at least get off your ass and make sure he doesn’t come back a monster like Rena.” You say calmly and clearly.

Sarah looks at the arriving horde with cold fury, and then nods.

You hand her the weapon she dropped and help her up off the ground.
She clutches the spear and wipes away her tears.

You turn to see well over a dozen lizardmen and undine staring you down.

“Those are the mercenaries that Augura wanted!” One of the undine shouts in glee. “Don’t let them escape!”
“We’re not going anywhere.” Sarah says firmly.
“Get them!” The undine shouts.

Their group charges.

The first lizardmen to arrive are met with fierce thrusts from your sword and Sarah’s spear. They collapse to the ground.
Sarah rolls to dodge a punch and then counters with a stab to an undine’s stomach. You slash the thigh of a lizardman and then cleave into his head. An other lizardman grips your sword, blood flowing from his hand as another punches you in the back of the head.

You let go of the sword and pull out your dagger, but are quickly stopped with another blow to the back of the leg, and then a kick to your stomach. The last sight you see before you pass out was Sarah slashing fiercely with your sword before she was dealt a punch to her head.

You head stings in pain with every beat of your heart, but you are alive. You hear cheering and shouting all around you, the sound rings in your ears causing you even more pain. Your arms are bound behind your back with shackles.

You open your eyes.

You see your captain fighting with two lizardmen. He breathes heavily as finishes them, with two quick slashes and gulps for air. He’s been fighting for a while now.

The crowd jeers.

“Get out of my sight!” The muscular undine known as Augura shouts from above you. An elderly couple hobble away from the arena as quickly as their bodies will allow.

You turn to your right to see Sarah shackled next to you.

“Enough games, too many of them are living.” Augura continues furiously. “S’BON! FINISH HIM!”

There’s silence in the crowd as S’Bon walks down from the platform and picks up two greatswords. He walks to the center of the makeshift arena.

“This one is for your life Konrad, and for all of us that you’ve killed.” Augura spits.

The captain stares at S’Bon and S’Bon stares back. The captain nods once, which is returned.

Your captain charges with great speed and thrusts at S’Bon’s leg. S’Bon slams down on the captain’s sword and crushes it to the ground. The captain responds with a punch to S’Bon’s throat which causes him to fall back. S’Bon charges and cleaves with both of his greatswords. The captain dodges one but is forced to block the other with nothing but his arms. The greatsword digs into his armor and body, while blood pours down his arms.

The captain headbutts S’Bon in the face and pulls back.

His arms are unusable.

The two of them stare at each other one last time before S’Bon charges, quickly and cleanly severing the captain’s head from his body.

The crowd cheers wildly. S’Bon returns to the platform.

“Your champions are dead.” Augura points to a pile of bodies which includes guards, Cyril, and soon the headless captain. Glen’s body lies a few feet away from the pile.

“Now, make this one suffer.” Rena says above you. You look up to see her glaring directly back at you. “But keep the blonde one, she’s very beautiful and quite fierce. She will be my next host.” Rena smiles and then looks at Glen's body. "You can use that man, he's quite handsome and strong looking, we'd be the perfect couple." Rena giggles.

“Yes, yes, my love.” Augura brushes her cheek and then turns to you. “You will die tonight, but feel free to put up a fight.” He says coldly. Then he turns to the crowd. “Come now, the first to best the small human in combat will be rewarded handsomely.”

You are unshackled and then shoved into the arena. You are given a short sword similar to the one you’ve carried for so many years. You remember the countless hours of training in the guild practice yard. You remember the meals eaten in the guild hall with Sarah, Glen, Valerie, Jin, Bart, Vincent, and the captain. You remember the laughs and tears shared. You remember your home.

You smile slightly.

A rather large and imposing undine enters the makeshift arena. His dark eyes glare at you as he twirls his spear slowly.

“Begin!” Rena shouts from the platform.

The undine lunges at you with the full weight of his body behind his thrust.

Roll 1d20, best result.

For all his muscles he’s still an amateur. He reminds you of the first undine that you killed. You wait for the right moment and then roll gracefully out of his way. He misses and the momentum of his thrust makes him fall to the ground. You jump on his back before he can react and ram your sword through his head, feeling and hearing the wet crunch as you plunge deeper.

You see the spear on the ground and react. You pick it up and quickly turn to the platform. You’ve never really thrown a spear in serious combat before but you aim at Augura and throw with all your might.
You watch, everyone watches as the spear flies through the air. It makes impact, piercing Rena’s leg.
A slight pang of regret come over you, wishing that you had practiced polearms, even just a little.

She screams in agony. “KILL HER!” She shouts over and over again. The crowd closes in on you, you look to the platform as you see S’Bon aiming a longbow. You’ve met your end.

You hear the voice of an old man shout in pain.

BOOM!

An explosion occurs nearby behind you. As the crowd scrambles away from it. S'Bon's shot was not intended for you but to stop the saboteur.

The commotion has turned the attention from you, there’s no means of escape, there’s too many surrounding you.

The only way is forward.

You run to the platform, clenching your sword tightly. You grasp the hilt with both hands and and lunge to your target.

You don’t feel the weight of your body anymore, as you look at the night sky. The stars are obscured by smoke.

You wonder if you are dead.

You crash to the ground harshly, the air being pushed from your chest, pain shoots throughout your whole body. You struggle to raise your head. There is no sound anymore, just the sight of S’Bon walking down from the platform, greatsword in hand.

You look to Sarah, tears stream from her eyes as she yells something to you. You wish that you or Glen could wipe them away, but alas that wish will go unfulfilled.

You smile.

You smile to Sarah to show her that you are not scared, you smile to help calm her down, and you smile above all else to thank her for her friendship.

S’Bon stands over you, for a brief moment you swear you saw regret in his eyes. You look to the sky once again, out of the smoke you see one star shining dimly. Even the smoke couldn’t capture all of them.

S’Bon’s greatsword comes down.

The End.

Well, so ends Miasma Quest. I want to thank all you players who participated in any of my threads. Without you this quest would just be a vague idea in my head.

I'll be in the thread answering any question or comments that you may have. I will answer any questions you may have about this quest, but do keep in mind that by doing so we cannot return to play this particular setting in the future.

Regardless, I will continue to run quests in the future.

I really wished that this quest would have gone to completion. I grew attached to many of the characters and how it all ended has left me feeling a bit down.

My most humble thanks for your complements. I hope to see you around in the future for any of my future quests.
And one of Jin.

Unless someone protests I'm going to ask questions.
Where could we have stopped the festival attack?
>>

Is there a way to exclude any answers from the archive or something? I'd really like to see this run again someday and would hate to stumble across the answers.

>>

>>36188033

I have to ask then to anyone that's still here. Would you like to run Miasma Quest again or do you want a brand new quest? And if you want to run Miasma Quest again, do you want the same character and time setting or a different one?
>>
>>36188103
Thank you for playing!

>>36188114
If there is a desire to play the same setting again, then I can't answer certain questions because it might give some players an unfair advantage.
>>
>>36188114
tbh I think I'd like a new quest. I really wouldn't feel right playing the same setting again. We got what we got, you know?
>>
>>36188114
I'd like either or. Alena had great potential but they way we ended has kinda soured her for me.
>>
>>36188114
It might be good to try again somewhere down the line. What about you? Did you want to move on or try again?
>>
>>36188213
>>36188269
>>36188321
I'm going to shelve it for the time being, I myself want to see a good ending for Miasma Quest. So, I guess there's going to be a new quest next time I run, which will be Monday at the earliest but more likely Wednesday.

I'll ask you, the players. Do you want me to advertise this on QTG the day of the first quest to get more players. I don't advertise this quest because I feel there is something missing when you don't discover something to enjoy by yourself. But if you guys would like more players, then I will.

Above all else I wanted to say that I had fun with you guys, I really did. Again, thank you all so much.
>>
>>36188456
Just for the opening thread, if only because we have had sucktacular luck so far.
>>
>>36188479
>>36188456
Pretty much what this anon said.
>>
>>36188456
As much as I fear the type of people that might draw, the thread probably could use more people. I think we don't even get three responses sometimes.
>>
>>36188456
I'm not sure. That place is can be pretty toxic and I'm kinda glad that I got to play a good quest with a small group. I just wish we'd had better results.
>>
Okay, I will put one up for the first thread. Hopefully the results are good.

With that, I'm going to leave the quest now. So I hope to see you all next time.
See you around!
>>
>>36188721
I'm going to leave the thread now*
The QM's mind is always on the quest haha.
>>
>>36188739
Thanks for running Auri, so our luck and stupidity messed this up.
>>
>>36188739
See ya later Auri. I'll keep an eye out for your next quest.
