INDECISIVE QM EDITION!
Sorry for the delay!

Don't forget about INSIGHT CHECKS!
It's simple! Just:
>Reply to an EsperQM™ post
>Greentext something from within that post that you want to know more about
>And (if you wish to make my life easier/get a more relevant bit of insight) ask a question or make a comment- not in greentext- below your greentext!

VOTING PROTOCOL:
>When voting, put the option you're voting for in greentext, linking back to the post you're voting towards.
>If you want to do a write-in, choose the “>Something else? (WRITE-IN!)” option, and put your write-in in greentext below it.
>If you wish to support a write-in, vote as you normally would, link back to the post containing the write-in, and include whatever it was that that particular anon... well, wrote!

FURTHERMORE, I'd prefer that you do INSIGHT CHECKS and VOTES in separate (but equal) posts!

You take an unsteady step back and admire your handywork.

You did a good job, you think. There's no way that the stupid toolbox is gonna fall off of the stupid too-tall workbench, now! Not with a half-roll of duct-tape securing it in place!

You reach a hand up and- after overshooting it once, twice- rub the top of your head, where the box hit you earlier.

You are Precia Testarossa, one of the relatively rare Espers with an ability that doesn't really take well to measurement, and you're pretty confident that you've almost got the hang of this whole 'walking' thing.

It's the 31st of July, and the aliens have come. You requisitioned this workshop relatively easily, and even managed to walk to it from that strange idol/technopath girl's place.

You give the top of your head another rubbing, in a largely-fruitless attempt to dull the aching pain emanating from it, and wonder why anyone would give a synthetic body sensation on the top of the head.

You're also still not entirely certain why anyone would transplant your brain into a little girl- little gynoid?- body.

You suspect that blonde girl had something to do with it. Maybe she was jealous of how tall you were? Or your bust?

… It's probably not particularly important, at least... not now.

You need to create something to use against the aliens.

You've got access to just about anything you could possibly justify as 'necessary for the purposes of research and/or development', and you can bring in pretty much whatever teams you want to work with (or for) you in your endeavor.

The question is... what? What will you make?

… right. You need to come up with something to counter the aliens' weapons.

And, as history shows, the classic counter to better weapons is better armor.

Of course, the opposite also tends to be true, but you rather doubt that the aliens brought along their R&D guys on their conquest.

The best offense is a good defense, anyways, right?

So you need to make armor.

Powered armor, of course- unpowered armor isn't exactly a groundbreaking field of study, after all, and there's only so much you can do with it.

And, as it stands, you're pretty sure you can't stop a bolt of coherent plasma fired from a guass rifle without thicker plating than an unaugmented human can wear. Even if weight wasn't an issue, it'd almost certainly be unwieldy as all hell.

Of course, stopping a projectile isn't the only way to keep it from doing damage. As... someone (you don't remember, but it's probably not important) once said, “Best way to avoid punch- no be there.”
And you could certainly make some powered armor that'd help with that.

You scratch your chin- and you manage to get it the first try, this time! Hell yeah!

You could make something relatively light, but incredibly agile- maybe even flight-capable.

Or you could make something moderately-well-armored, and super-humanly strong.

You could also make something impervious to anything one could throw at it- it'd be slow, and heavy enough that superhuman strength would be required just to move, let alone lift or throw or hit things.

You could probably do something else entirely, too.

Wouldn't all the extra bits make it really heavy though?
>>
>>36190415
That... doesn't seem feasible.

Like... at all.

Even absorbing the heat, which I could see being maybe-possible, wouldn't stop the kinetic impact.

I suppose you could probably do shielded armor or something?
Repulsion/deflection, rather than absorption and re-emission.
I'd say it'd be heavy enough to necessitate the same level of powered-ness as the Medium, but wouldn't get the super-strength, due to having to power the shields as well.

You settle on something light and quick.
You can't go wrong with speed, after all.

Besides, what if your heavy armor couldn't stop whatever heavy weapons the aliens might have?
You'd be shit outta luck, that's what.

No, it's definitely gotta be light.

You stumble over to a dry-erase board and, after procuring a step-stool from by the workbench (you forgot to bring it with you the first time, and had to go back) begin sketching out ideas.

There's several areas you need to address, you think.

Armament, for one- unless punching aliens with super-high-tech equipment happens to strike you as a good idea (it doesn't). You could integrate weapons directly into the armor, or go with more traditional, not-integrated-into-powered armor weaponry. There's also the matter of ranged versus melee...

Armor is another, and (hopefully) the most obvious. You'll need to decide out how much armoring the suit needs, and where that armor needs to be concentrated. More armor is more weight, and more weight is less other stuff.

There's also subsystems and fancy capabilities to consider. You could make them flight-capable, implement active camouflage systems, or even integrate psi-amplification technology. Of course, there's the limiting factor of power supply, in addition to weight concerns.

You'll need to address them all, but you can't really do it all at once.

Which will you do first?

This is an important decision... so why do you have the urge to play eenie-meenie-miney-mo?

You suppress your sudden and confusing urge, and...

>Focus on ARMAMENT first.
>Focus on ARMOR and weight distribution and such first.
>Focus on COOL GADGETS AND SUBSYSTEMS first.

>She protests, they don't listen and she stands there for a minute, unable to believe what is happening to her.
>Then she starts crying. The most adorable and moe crying possible.
>The scientists say they're sorry, they'll look at her ideas and see if it's possible, she just needs to stop crying, please!

Well, you know, you gotta be prepared incase Akari decides to make a visit.
>>
You manage to suppress your urges, and decide to focus on the 'special features' first.

There's all sorts of things you could do.

Flying wouldn't be too difficult- jetpacks are easy-mode, really. Still, that's less power to be used elsewhere, and more weight. Jetpacks also happen to be rather loud, so something else would have to be made if the stealth approach is to be taken.

Stealth is also something to consider- being fast and undetectable is nothing to scoff at, even considering the power drain active camouflage would entail. The dampening of footsteps and such is easy, especially so in a lightweight suit.

And then there's the psionics amplifiers. Or Psi-amps, but you think that sounds kinda silly. They... well, they do exactly what one would expect.
They amplify psychic powers, making Espers' abilities even more potent. They're lightweight and require almost no power to utilize, but the person wearing the armor has to have the appropriate cranial implants in order for them to work. On top of that, they'd override any sort of targeting system you could mount in a helmet, meaning integrated weapons-fire would be... extremely impaired, and non-integrated weapons-fire would have to be done manually.

What do you include?

You decide to focus on the armor portion of the armor, next.

Armor, you think, is probably a pretty important factor in armoring things.

But you can't put too much on the suits if you want them to be fast- not to mention flight-capable.

Naturally, the armor will cover the entire body of the wearer- the decision that has to be made has to do with the distribution of the protection it provides.

You could make the portion covering the torso the thickest by far, leaving the limbs and head relatively unprotected.

You could also concentrate the armor on both the body and the helmet, leaving only non-important bits un-(relatively)-safe.

Of course, you could also distribute the armor evenly across the whole of the suit, making the whole body somewhat protected... -ish.

Right. You should focus as much protection as you can on the areas of the body that /really/ matter.

With that out of the way, all that's left for you to decide on is the armament.

With the Psi-amps, you can't really integrate ranged weapons, so you're left with these options:

[YOU CAN SELECT UP TO TWO- AND YOU CAN HAVE TWO OF THE SAME SORT. BUT YOU CAN'T HAVE TWO SHIELDS. Because that'd be tacky.]

Rule One of Uni: no matter how fucked up it is, there are at least two people involved, and quite likely more.

… Yeah, shields totally count as weapons!

You decide on a shield and integrated-melee combo.

You figure that, with the amps, most espers will use their abilities at range, and, for some, a free hand is necessary for power usage. For espers whose abilities are only useful for melee combat, you expect that the amplification and the integrated weapon should be enough for anyone worth his or her salt.

And, as for the shield- well, why not have one? With powered armor, a shield'll feel light as a feather- and, more importantly, provide extra protection to most of the body. If nothing else, it'll protect the left arm.

All that's left is deciding what sort of integrated weapon to... uh... integrate?

You scratch your head, which is an odd thing to do, when you think about it- again, you wonder just why someone would put that much effort into your new, synthetic scalp.

You could do something like the 'hidden blade' from those games people seem to like so much, you suppose, or perhaps something more along the lines of 'a gauntlet, but covered in spikes.'

You're having trouble coming up with integrated melee weapons.

Maybe there just aren't that many out there?

You bite your lip and think really hard.

Nope. Nothing.

>Retractable blade
>Just cover the gauntlet in... (What? Write-in!)

You'll just put some extra amplifiers on the right gauntlet.

That counts, right?

You use a marker as a fake mustache and say 'Right!' in your best guy-with-a-mustache voice, then do the same with the marker as a beard, then a unibrow, and then a unicorn horn.

Somehow, your pretend-chorus of agreement makes you feel a lot better about that decision.

You're not entirely sure what to think of that, if you're gonna be honest with yourself.

For some reason, the thought that that blonde girl wouldn't approve runs through your mind.

You shake your head, and, somehow, the thoughts go away.

Things just keep getting stranger and stranger.

You need to name the armor, you think. Or you could just give it some numbers and letters and say that they mean something, but never actually assign any further meaning to them.

>Clearly, it's the Valkyrie
>Clearly, it's [INSERT BETTER NAME HERE]

You wobble unsteadily, manage to scrawl 'MUSUME', and, as you're un-tip-toeing, the stepping-stool shifts suddenly beneath your feet, sending you falling face-first towards the gray, concrete floor.

Only for you to bring a leg up and-

There's a strangely-jarring, but ultimately rather soft 'POP,' and, suddenly, you've got your sense of balance.

You finish dismounting the stool and, with both feet planted firmly on solid ground, lift your skirt to get a better view of your legs, where you think the sound came from.

Your left knee, the one you fell on, looks a bit different than before.

In fact, it now looks just like a mirrored version of your right knee.

At what point did her management discover this and how popular were her shows before that point?
>>
>>36197198
She usually only forgets pants/skirts, not underwear.
She forgot to pick up underpants for Precia because it was something she'd have needed to write down on a shopping list or something similar- and something that, when absent, she couldn't be reminded by looking down.

Generally, Mato and the wardrobe/costume people were pretty good at keeping Miku decent, and, more recently, Akane has taken up 'training' Miku out of the habit by wearing whatever garment Miku forget on her head.

You're not sure if it was a slip of the tongue, or a product of having technobabble spouted at you for two hours straight, or just a good old-fashioned Freudian slip.

But you're sure of what you said. It seems like it was aeons ago, but, in reality, the final word just finished leaving your lips.

“Sorry, Miku-neesan, I need to visit dinner and eat Mato.”

Miku blinks.

Maybe if you try again... damage control, right?
It can't possibly hurt to try.

“I-I mean, I need to check on dinner for everybody and eat Mato to make sure she sleeps well!”

You were wrong.

Horribly, horribly wrong.

It truly /can/ hurt to try.

Miku's face grows redder and redder as you stare at one another in awkward silence.

“... Akari-chan...” she places the strange-looking component in her hand down on the workbench beside her and spreads her arms. “Come here, sweetheart,” she says, and, as if driven by embarrassment, you comply, moving towards her until she wraps you up in a hug.

“It's okay, Akari-chan,” she coos, as one of her hands finds its way to your head and begins gently stroking your hair, “You've had a long day, and a long week, and you're stressed and tired, and you made a simple mistake,” she's rocking you slowly from side to side, patting your head, and no longer talking, instead whispering to you. “There's nothing to be ashamed of. I didn't hear a thing, so there's no reason to make that face. Okay?”

You nod ever-so-slightly, and she gives you a gentle squeeze. “If you need to go get some rest, then go ahead, alright? I'll have Akane-chan pick something up for dinner while she's out.”

That didn't make any sense, did it?

You shrug and begin preparing food.

You use Mato as a sort of 'carrot-on-a-stick'.

Mato will be hungry when she wakes up. Mato will be hungry if she can't eat. If you don't cook for Mato, she'll eat unhealthy food, and that's terrible.

You imagine the world without the perfect flatness that is Mato, and the sheer revulsion you feel at the prospect is enough to scar you for life... or wake you up.

Either way.

So motivated, you continue preparing foods.

And, before you know it... you're done.

Finished.

Mission complete.

You head to the front room to rouse Mato, and make it as far as the couch before you decide that being conscious is for people who don't have flat to cuddle with, and join Mato in couch-sleep.

To Mato's credit, she murmurs your name and wraps her arms around you on contact.

Good job, Mato.
