Well, the lady was really nice, and she gave off a somewhat modern feel, didin't she? like, it wouldn't really amaze us all that much if next time she's wearing hipster glasses or playing with a gameboy, but at the same time, she seems really nice and sweet.

The mermen are really happy. As a token of their gratitude for allowing them to meet their goddess, their king gives us a trident.

Should we say "as expected"? It's the kind of thing that seems to fit too well... well, it's not actually a weapon... well, it is of course a trident, but it's more of a staff. Its enchanted so it amplifies the water affinity of its user.

[Legendary][Triton's Staff][6/5 empty slots]
This wonderful magic staff greatly enhances the power of water magic.
Bonus: Water spells receive a bonus to damage or attack equal to the user's Wisdom bonus. This bonus can be changed as a free action every 8 hours.
Enhancements: [Ghost Card] +10 MP Drain per spell
Enchantments: [Arcane Might] +2 damage per MP spent on [Water] spells

Triton's staff... should we make a comment about how clichéd that sounds... maybe not.

Well, now that the feast is over, the area is full of tiny fish nibbling at the leftovers.

And it looks like there are plenty of activities we could do, still.

For starters, Honoria wants to try making a sand castle. And Mako wants to learn to swim. And Okaba wants to borrow our amulet to try swimming underwater

Well, we can the amulet to Okaba for a bit without much trouble, but let's leave it for tomorrow so Mako can try it on for now.

It's much easier to teach someone to swim when that someone can't drown.

So, we place it on Mako's neck, and help her in the classical manner, by gently pulling her by the hands as she kicks water behind her. The basics are important, just getting her used to the wate... the hell is that, Aura is swimming on her back at full speed withing even using her arms or le... ah, right, shes using her leathery wings underwater, right.

...

Those things float? those two large round blue shiny things arent finflatable loaters right? there shouldn't be such things in thi-- oh, that's what they are. Alright... let's go back to our little princess, now.

Ah, she's frowning. She looks cute when she frowns at us, but she's also angry, isin't she?

"Eldric, y-you meanie" ~she tries to hide her face in the water, but the air bubble prevents it.

Well, she seems to forgive us soon enough, so we can keep going around. She seems to be used to the water now.

For now, let's teach her the doggy swim. It's the easiest way, right?

A few of the waves wash over us, but the amulet keeps the bubble in place so her face doesn't even gets wet.

Maybe it's a bad idea to teach her with the amulet? she may get used to it.

Well, let's teach her how to float first. If she knows how to float by keeping still, she won't be scared of sinking.

We spend the evening teaching the little princess to swim.

She won't win any gold medals, but, of course, her stats are high enough that she learns anything quickly.

After a while, we notice that Ami and Mai are missing. Well, originally, their job was to watch over Mako from the shadows, but where would those two hide in an open beach?

Don't tell me...? underwater?

We check under the water, and sure enough, there they are... how long can they hold their breath? Well.. how long can WE hold our breath, with our constitution score being what it is, come think about it?

All the same, let's go play in the sand with Honoria.

Ah, we make a rather bug castle for Honoria and Mako. It's so big, the petite princesses can walk in and out of it. Well, with enough time, we could make it much bigger, and maybe even permanent, but wouldnt that be littering?

Well, either way, the sand castle becomes a safe spot to lit our fireworks in. It's something we have been working on for a while, but all the same, it's better to lit them in the castle, surrounded by the sandwalls.

"Aaah"
"Ooooh"

The fireworks blossom high up in the sky.

Right now it's just explosions. I mean, c´mon, adding pretty colors and shapes it's a bit more than what we could do right now. but it's still a fun, fresh show.

yes, ive always wondered why you write "exit for emergencies" as "emergency exit", come think about it.

I remember reading an article about how language shapes perception. There are languages without a "before" and "after". Show a vietnamese two photos, one where a man holds a balloon and one where the man let go of the balloon, and he can only describe it as "man balloon" IIRC

that article also mentioned how english is slightly more pessimist than other languages.

For example, if two kids are sitting on a bed and it breaks, when the noise causes their mom to asl what happened, they would blame eachother and say "X broke the bed!" while in spanish it would be "the bed broke"

anyway

>>36206330
That night, the girls are all wearing cuddly, fluffy-looking robes. Even Stella seems happy with hers.

Uncle Wolfric is wearing a cheap pair of pants and a long black robe, while we convinced Alard and Okaba to stick with a dry set of swimming trunks.

Ah, it's time for campfire stories.

Of course, with magic on our side to help us enlarge shadows and project ominous shadows, we take the chance to tell them The Lord of the Rings, as best we could remember it.

"Oh please, a dwarven king would have had any such gift examined first, you know?" ~says Honoria

"Ah, please go with it, it's called suspension of disbelief"

Well, next time, maybe we'll tell them about starwars. Come think of it, could we make an actual light saber on this world?

That feels like something to look forward to. I feel like going "swoosh" while wielding it, even if it didin't made a sound by itself
>>
>>36206696
True, this is why loan words became a thing. You don't have a word for it, but that foreigner does. You just use his word for it. Happens all the time, though only really noticeable by those with a very large vocabulary and good knowledge about other languages (at least enough to know what they sound like, to detect potential ones).

As for it being more pessimist. Look where it came from. Brits like satire and sarcasm, as do most Americans. This would show by being keen to make pessimistic remarks about things.

"Uhmm.. Master, your wings feel really nice, warm and fluffy" ~cooes Stella as she snuggles up to the prince
"Yes, yes. You can enjoy it all you want to"

Once the story and the kebabs are all gone, we make it back to the inn in town.

Uncle makes sure all the girls make it back to their rooms before going to bed for the night.

"Elric, don't stay up too late" ~he says while peeking into our room.~ "You too, Alard, you're older by 2 years, so be a good example, alright?"
"Yes, father"

That night, we are laying down, looking out the window when we notice noise outside. It is quite late, almost late enough to count as the early morning, so naturally felt like taking a look.

A group of about a dozen people are walking their horses to the side of the inn. It is when they start climbing the wall towards Mako's window that we actually worry about them, of course.

CRASH
Oh boy, leaping through windows look a lot easier on tv. Good thing we have a lot of HP
Still, that did make a lot of noise

As we land before them, the horses run out scared, while they stare at us.

"You had better noticed fire coming out of the window, and be climbing to save anyone inside... well, I see no fire, so what do you think you're doing?!"
"What the... who's this kid!?"
"Check out his level"
"...we can still take him, go!"

Of course, they can only see one of our jobs, and our class level

Alard lands before us, on one of their horses, and it takes off into the night. Our cousin manages to hop off.

Landing on a horse it's so old school... he did it by accident, but let's add it to the list of things to do.

"Uhmph" ~Okaba doesnt has enough room to fly down with his wings spread, so he just leans out of the window. Still, it's not a bad idea to keep his height advantage, really.

Now... if you ask who won in a fight between a group of mooks and us. Of course it was us.

this, this right there is glorious!
we already confirmed corpses get preserved in item boxes, and we have an item box!
kill them, put them in box. then later remove them from box one by one.

actually, we can save on scrolls if we get someone who has a res spell to use mp to raise them instead.

... don't we actually have it already as a class ability?
>>
>>36207827
We have 3 different rez spells, though only 2 are applicable at the moment. And i meant preserve them with the necromancer ability we just picked up.

We'd probably use the monk rez since it gives them only 1 hp.
>>
>>36207709
this
besides, even if its "obvious" who sent them, its better politically to actually have living them and confessions.
Or if we make it public they were caught and are being interrogated someone might try to kill them before they can talk and in turn get caught as well.
>>
>>36207863
>And i meant preserve them with the necromancer ability we just picked up.
I know, I am saying its better to use our item box to preserve them instead. A body that is stashed in one does not have its turn counter go down. that is, if you put it in the box with a death counter of 3, it will come out of it with a death counter of 3 a month later later when you pull it out.
>>
>>36207908
That's another way of doing it, sure, but it's not 'better'. The necromancer spell stops their countdown completely, whether in an item box or not.

With their bodies preserved and frozen in time, we give them up to the authorities.

In this case, uncle Wolfric is staying behind to supervise their questioning.

Well, it's not as if they would have done much even if they had gotten to the girl's room, either,

Still, it did get us cookie points with Ami and Mai

Mako is clinging to us the next day. Well, she may be the strongest 9 years old cutesy princess in the world, but she's still a 9 years olf cutesy princess.

"Eldric, thank you" ~she says as she blings from our sleeve
"Don't worry Mako. I'm sure you could have beat them, anyway"

Come think about it... when its her birthday? we don't know if her culture celebrates the 5th, 10th and 15th birthdays as anything special, or if it celebrates every birthday, or none.

Well, asking Mai about it, it turns out its in two months, so, a little after we return to Albion, right?

Maybe we should prepare her a party while we are in Eopolis? surely we could prepare her a much better party that way.

As for the would-be kidnappers, they were sent by the Alquian Vizier, in a shocking twist that surprised absolutely no one.

"What is surprising is that he could orchestate something like this so soon after the end of the war. I thought he would be busy with his own civil war" ~says Alard

"Clearly, we need to know the situation in Alquia, Can we ask your uncle about any information those men had?" ~says Honoria
"I doubt they know anything about polotics, but maybe we can find about their boss, and then that person's boss, and so on?"

Indeed, asking your uncle later, this is what he found out.

The Vizier has suffocated most of the uprisings, except for those in the far north east of the empire, as that region is mostly desert, and fighting for it would probably be more trouble than it is worth. The nomad tribes there are claiming independence, and with no strategic resources to defend, nor even any cities, the vizier pretty much told them to do whatever, and now the tribes are busily fighting each other.

Still, despite the loss of lives they took during the final days of the war, their infraestructure took very little damage. In fact, the civil war did more than the Coalition did to curb the Empire's military machinery.

That's not to say we did nothing, either. The Eopolitan nacy sank several dozen warships and cargo vessels, so the empire is having plenty of trouble patrolling their waters, and piracy is rampant over there.

At the same time, the routes over the sands are also taking hits from nomads and bandits, so even trade between landbound cities has become a shadow of its former self.

That's a major political action. You're basically talking about the assassination of someone in high political office. We can't do much of anything against him directly until a move against us has been made by him personally. Emphasis on personally, for reasons I will explain.

Even if you fingered him with a confession he could claim some lackey acting independent of him was doing this dropping his name and that he'd never do such a thing, then jails or executes the lackey to make it all look legit.

Politicians are crafty like that, always hiding behind a few sacrificial lambs if their plans go south. Then never want to own up to their fuck ups, and take the appropriate measures.

>>
>>36208960
ok, for eupolis I see 3 places to potentially expand do. there is a wierd little dimple at the top, near sbastia, of unclaimed land.
There is a bit of land to the south, near yellowleaves. and then there is a huge swath of territory to the east.

What is in those 3 specific locations immediately out of their borders?
I am asking because I remember you saying that some is unsettled lands, while others is nations too small to matter.

uhmm... if we are taking any of the girls, are we giving them bond-like names?

I still chuckle whenever I think of Pussy Galore or Honey Rider, Zora (one r away from meaning zorra, or slut in spanish), Kissy Suzuki, and Plenty O'Toole

We could exploit english as a generic "foreign language" with impunity. "Fire Crotch" suddenly becomes a valid spygirl name. "Sweet Tits", and such.
>>

I am actually willing to concede the point to him here. and back off of that idea.

>dimple at the top, near sbastia, of unclaimed land.
thats a necromantically twisted deadman's land known as The Wastes, tho

The land to the east is not unclaimed, its just unclaimed by the larger "powers". Thats mostly tiny city states, tribal lands, and such.

that being said, the area between Bastion, Black Lake and the Empire IS unclaimed and could be settled. Note that that's right next to where the Vizier said "fuck it" and left the tribes do whatever they wanted.

No valuable resources in the area, at least not with the current times mentality. There's huge ponds of this greasy, filthy black stuff that keeps bubbling up, fucking everything. It also tends to catch on fire pretty easily and then it takes forever to put it out.

The region between eopolis and yellowleaves, to the coast, to the south? that's called "Sanc". It's a wretched hive of scum and villany that its pretty much pirate heaven.

Nah im kidding, the area IS called Sanc, and all that there is is a ghost city near the coast. It used to be an empire trading post, millenia ago when the empire stretched all the way north to sbastia. The gold mines ran dry, and then the norhtern nations split from the empire, and the city couldnt make it

it's considered worthless. The land is tough and its mostly hills, so its hard to have farms. This world doesnt has the concept of terrace farms

>>36209840
we have already discussed that farmers are buff as fuck
Also, farms exist, but arent very efficient because you pull a carrot and sometimes you get a carrot (which wasnt even the same carrot, its a carrot drop) and sometimes you get some copper coins. But there are some exceptions, like most fruits.

You pick an apple, you get an apple.

>>36209864
alright

But we should stop for today with the plot, probably? dont want to advance much before the next thread. I already feel super guilty about cutting the beach for those who couldnt make it this thread.

Remember we'll do a little more on tuesday, too. For now let's go back to jobs. Or we could discuss settling, too. Should I make a purely continental map, maybe? instead of our corner of the planet, just our continent, I mean
>>
>>36210029
So the way to turbocharge farming would be to teach singer and herbalist to all the farmers?
>>
>>36210029
oh, so there are a bunch of low pop rural areas with farms spread throughout the land. feeding villages.
While cities, instead of depending on massive farmlands, depend on foodgeons instead?

that is actually rather nice. I was worrying that the pop lives entirely in hyper dense cities.
>>
>>36210107
alright i get herbalist, sounds good, but why singer?

>>36210174
right, pop can get only so big on farm food. If they want to grow up larger, they HAVE TO hire some devadasi to make them a foodgeon and thats not the kind of money a little town can easily make, AND its the kind of money that attracts bandits
>>
>>36210255
>why singer
Herbalist's passive is keyed off Cha bonus, and the singer line has the highest Cha boost of all the jobs. So if you had singer 20/healer 20/herbalist 1, you'd have +142 cha, so every plant drop would give an additional 14 items.
>>
>>36210318
that would mean making our efficient leveling this completely public though, known to every farmer in the land.
>>
>>36210350
Efficient leveling will be known to the public at some point regardless of what we do. All it takes is one guy overleveling a job before switching to a hybrid and then noticing he is significantly stronger than all his peers.

I have very little doubt that evil vampire dad knows that job levels give stat bonuses, even if he doesn't know the exact amounts like we do. His experiments almost guarantee that knowledge.
>>
>>36210318
uhmm... so you want to teach nobles how to farm, or teach farmers how to sing? I could see it working either way, you know

It would be fun to see nbles being nobles by virtue of their divine right as the guys that feed everyone else

>>
>>36210469

More villagers than nobles, so if you were going full green revolution it'd make more sense to teach them singing.
>>

1. this is shit justification to releasing it to the public now. It might take 100 years for it to happen. don't make it happen sooner.
2. Most people will keep such a thing a secret due to selfishness.

So you want to live like a tinpot dictator when even basic knowledge like herbalists make the best farmers would vastly improve the lives of everyone alive.

Literally nobody is talking about herbalist training.
We are talking about multiclassing to pump up your attributes. They can be herbalists without doing the multiclass attribute pump trick. It just wont be as awesome.

>Vastly improve the lives
it would create an insurmountable power gap between nobility and commoners. and turn the world into a much darker place.
This is the same reason we did not introduce bleach. sure it has positive uses, but it also has horrific ones, and overall the damage will exceed the good in the current world order.

no
>What granpda, okaba, the high priest of voltron, and many others have all told us
Also, basic fucking logic
There is currently about 40-50 level gap between average noble and farmer. Not insurmountable with sufficient numbers due to inefficient leveling.
If everyone was leveling efficiently, than that massively tilts the power balance in favor of nobles. As those 40-50 level become 400-500 extra levels when distributed to lower level jobs
>>
>>36211220
>telling everyone that leveling basic jobs makes them stronger would increase the disparity between nobles and everyone else

>>36211220
>If everyone was leveling efficiently, than that massively tilts the power balance in favor of nobles. As those 40-50 level become 400-500 extra levels when distributed to lower level jobs
Almost forgot, that is just looking at XP, don't forget non scions can't change their jobs on their own, it costs 2GP per job change. So again, massively favors those born to wealth as they can regularly change their jobs and even classes to level efficiently.

Anyway the main purpose of this thread was after all to comment on the new jobs

The Son of the Akasha (secret job which requires special training and 10 lvls in wizard, healer and warrior)
+4 Str
+2 Dex
+2 Con
+5 Int
+5 Wis

+16HP
+16MP

+1 Divine
+1 Elemental
+1 Melee Weapons skill
+1 Ranged Weapons skill

(A) Divine ~ You gain the following divine powers
???MP ~ Ancestral Channeling: You can pay 10MP to add 1MP to a MP Crystal. For every 10 extra Son of the Akasha job levels that you have, you add another +1MP when charging a MP Crystal.

(A) Elemental ~ You gain the following elemental powers
???MP ~ Elder Blessing: Adjacent ally gets a elemental type bonus to damage on basic melee and ranged attacks equal to the MP paid for Elder Blessing.

(A) Art of War ~ You gain access to the following Art of War battle techniques
Martial echoes ~ Each time you successfully beat an opponent's PDV with a standard action, you can follow suit with a basic melee or ranged attack as a free action.

(P) Collective Consciousness ~ You can add your Intelligence bonus to any attack roll.
>>
>>36213040
about the same as devadasi, the job is also pretty much exactly the same, only asking for herler and singer instead of healer and dancer

Also, the son of the akasha is as "this is temporal" as they come. Asking for suggestions because im really sort of lost.

The idea is that it accesses the collective consciousness and draws abilities from there

Just being clear, you can use tricks on the free attack?

More generally, you may want to look at some of the other abilities like Rune Knight's passive that do not allow tricks - most of our damage boosts come from tricks, now.

A round is 6 seconds? 10 seconds?

So we'd be able to burn 4000 mana to charge a crystal with 400 mana in about an hour.

That's pretty horrifically inefficient, but at the same time if we went to a dungeon to quickly recharge our mana in between, we'd be able to do that say 8 times a day, so 3200 mana per day.

A month of that would give us a crystal with about 100,000mp stored. Which would be a pretty good starting point for a golem.
>>
>>36213803
I would rather wait to get a 1,000,000+ crystal first
go big or go home.
also its inefficient but we wouldn't do dungeon diving every day, and we sure don't use all our MP every day, so its at least useful.

Pretty interesting stuff.

Of course we have no interest in introducing napalm, lets not have our new airships drop barrels of that stuff.

Wonder if we could find out how to distill heavy and light oils for use as kerosene and gear oil if we cared.

Type of thing we would not have time to do however.
>>
>>36214162

But I noticed there is an option to swap out crystals
so what happens to the crystal you take out? if it remains fully functional, you can use 2 crystals for a golem and just alternate them.

what about weed?
>>
File: blaze it tomoko.jpg (86 KB, 700x700)

>>36215497
Assuming it exists in this world and has similar effects on the people there as it does on us. The good news is weed takes next to no processing. Harvest the bud, dry it out a bit, pick out the seeds and stem, and light it up. Someone has to have tried that before.

Of course, you'd have to know about things like genetics to create new strains and up the potency. As it's also basically hemp it has many uses besides getting baked. At low potency the effect of getting well and truly high would require you to smoke or consume a good amount, as opposed to the "chronic" now grown in places like California that send you into outer space with just one joint or one brownie.

So, if discovered, our next course of action is whether or not we want the herb to become a thing here. Coca leaves were once merely chewed for a slight stim effect and is used medicinally by several cultures. It took science and processing to turn those plants into "cocaine" the drug.
>>
>>36216050
Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

>>36216050
and dirt weed can go to dank in just 7 generations just gotta take cuttings before it flowers and add some cloning powder and plant it. hell with the rate weed grows it should only take 2-3 years (12-14 generations ) to get that good Kush from plan old hemp.
>>
>>36216050
well if we don't introduce weed should we make
Prozac? or Valium? chemo? weed is a hella good medicine and does a tone of things.
>>
>>36216285
how about we stay out of the addictive mind altering substances market entirely?
I don't think introducing drug cartels to this world counts as "being good"
>>
>>36216285
Weed is safer than antidepressants. No chance of OD and doesn't have very many side effects. Plus it only induces psychological addictions (i.e. you just really really like being high and only *think* you need more). I know of no physiological addictive traits (unlike drugs like crack and heroin).

But, some people don't think "drugs" can ever be a good thing. So we'll all vote when and if it ever comes up.

>>36216404
Drug cartels only exist because the substance is illegal. When you make shit people want illegal, you get death and violence without solving anything. Look at prohibition, never would have had Al Capone without it.
>>
