/tg/ - Traditional Games

Welcome to the XXVII installment of "Disney Villains Victorious."

Disney Villains Victorious is a new /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.

We're in the playtesting phase now. We've run a first playtest and the second one is being run on Tuesday, and at least three people have run real-life games with their various groups, but we probably won't be playing any official games until we get and process the second playtest (Which will probably be where we move into beta).

I think I get what you're saying. It's not about the shape of the continents, its more that the map looks too cold and clinical for Disney, right?

I think its safe to say that once we hammer out everything and make a finalized world we can probably get a drawfag to make a more stylized one; but as it stands now Dread Cartographer is still making periodic edits to the borders, so ease of editing is more important than looking good.

I got a new trait idea

>Quick! Name 4 things that aren't...
When using improvised weapons in combat, you receive a +1 on melee/ranged chance depending on how the item is used.
>>
>>36209736
With the "Depending on how the item is used" it makes it so variable in its application that it really doesn't mean much. If it all comes down to the DM to decide if you're using it right to get the bonus, why not just leave it as an optional side-bar rule?

Something like. "Characters using improvised weaponry may get a +1 if they are using it similarly to a real weapon that they are proficient with"
>>
>>36209586
Understood. So we finish up everything else before we worry about the map.

Also, we wouldn't happen to have any drawfriends lurking in these threads, would we?
Seems like it'd be cool to see some of these ideas sketched out, like the Atlantean hybrid tech, maybe some alternate designs for heroes/villains, etc.

Last thread we decided on a 3d6+Agility Initiative system by popular vote.
Additonally, we decided that Charming characters would get Charm instead of Agility in place of +Action because that's pretty retarded broken.
I've also come to the conclusion after discussion in the last thread that we either need to majorly buff music or come up with some better stuff for the Charming character, because at the moment all they have is social combat+music.
We also decided that Attacker gets priority over defender, so on a tie the Attacker scores a strike.
Mooks are having defense be bumped to 22. Bosses either need piles of strikes or can only be defeated via clever maneuvering. We have five tiers of villains, with King at the top as their own special tier.

In my opinion, Kings should almost universally require a special method to defeat them. Some, like Roarke and Ratcliffe, should be defeatable in person but have their entire army standing in between you and them, whereas others like Facilier and Hades are literal beings of godlike power.

Thoughts? I'm also interested in other people's opinion of the playtest. More eyes are better in this case.
>>
>>36211255
I thought that after King, we had God for really tough kings and Godslayer for Walt, the Firebird and Cherrybomb?
>>
>>36211255
Any thoughts on defeating Slim?
>>
>>36211255
>we decided that Charming characters would get Charm instead of Agility
I think that already fixes their problems: they use one attribute instead of two
>We also decided that Attacker gets priority over defender, so on a tie the Attacker scores a strike.
What about the other ties? Like Insight versus Stealth?
>Mooks are having defense be bumped to 22
Seems a bit high, I would say 20
>Kings should almost universally require a special method to defeat them
Agreed, all big villains should be have an achilles heel
>>
>>36211255
>Fighting Rourke in the first place

heresy

But yeah, I think we should totally start brainstorming special ways to defeat the Kings. Some are pretty self-evident, like making Facilier break his promise, but then we have people like Frollo who are more difficult. How would one beat Maleficent or Jafar in combat?
>>
>>36211384
I also remember that, yeah
here >>36202601
>>36202687
>>
>>36211384
Wait, Walt Disney is apart of the setting? Is he going to be the Tom Bombadil?
>>
>>36211418
>I think that already fixes their problems: they use one attribute instead of two
I understand that Charisma maybe underpowered, but letting someone use Charisma instead of Agility is really huge.
>>
>>36211255
I for one was happy that I was able to contribute significantly despite have no relevant traits and skills. I guess that's a plus.
>>
>>36211490
Walt Disney is the God above God and Chernabog. Wheras God is a physical being in the universe, Walt is the overlord above all of it.
>>
We should implement some kind of system that allows for Hero-level, and, to a lesser degree, On-A-Roll tier heroes to deal with incredible amounts of mooks relatively quickly. As it stands, fighting 100 or so mooks as would be pretty common by high levels would take FOREVER because each character can only take out two a round. Maybe when facing only mooks (And maybe lackeys), higher-tier heroes get a bunch more actions?
>>
>>36211411
Defeating slim himself is easy -- while dodgy, he's not much of a fighter compared to the heroes themselves when they come after him. His hypnotized beasts, on the other hand...

>>36211384
>>36211384
Maybe? Stats-wise they'd be different but for intents and purposes it means 'the ruler of this section of ruined earth.'

>>36211418
We did 20 defense. The average attacker literally could not miss unless they rolled all ones.

>>36211509
>>36211418
>Charming
Using Charisma instead of Agility is very, very strong, yes. It's replacing the even more retardedly powerful +an action to make a Social strike, which if poorly implemented would break the combat system over it's beautiful knees. However, it was pointed out last thread that all a Charismatic character can really do is use Persuade, Deceit, and Music as compared to other character's much wider skillsets.

>>36211546
I think that's right, but IIRC we're on the fence as to whether or not he actually exists in the universe or is more a force heroes call upon in times of need, like people praying for gods help.
>>
>>36211613
maybe give them actions that can only be used on mooks?
>>
>>36211631
But 22 is more than the average character dodge. 10,5+8+3=21.
And what if we do this >>36211641 for charisma characters? They get that extra actions but only against mooks? So they could be the ones that do crowd control.
>>
>>36211698
The average combat character will have a dodge of 9+11+4+3 at the very first encounter, making their average defense a 27.
>>
>>36211698
>They get that extra actions but only against mooks? So they could be the ones that do crowd control.
I like it. It also makes sense that the guy that sings can affect more people than the guy with a sword
>>
>>36211536
Well, I apologize but I couldn't find a way to work an injun chief into the story. You did play him very well given the circumstances, though. Obviously in a real game the GM should sit down the players and tell them what's going on in the game so that they can design a character around it.

>>36211641

>>36211432
Break Frollo's faith in God -- perhaps bring him proof that Chernabog has supplanted God?
Jafar: This is difficult. Some sort of occult-based check would work to break his magic in some way.
Maleficent: She has the same weaknesses that all Fae have, she's just impossibly strong and incredibly powerful.

>>36211698
22 may be more than average for character dodge, but the average character was at +15 to hit. It's still likely that you will successfully dodge. What I'm saying is that we need more traits that give bonuses to Prevent Harm, or we need less traits that give bonuses to various kinds of attack rolls.

>>36211698
>>36211613
I'd say an easy way to do this (other than allowing Hero-tier characters to just sweep crowds with a trait or something) would be to have any group of mooks over size twenty to be just one creature that has multiple strikes and high defenses to represent a large number of people. But crowd rules are usually a pain.
>>
>>36211641
This is a good idea I think, but it'd have to be done for all characters, not just charismatic ones.
So maybe +2 actions against mooks only at on-a-roll and +4 at hero? That'd give 8 mooks taken out with all hits per-character, that's suitably strong for Heroes.
>>36211769
Nob's idea on it is quite good to. Also, convincing Frollo that Chernabog has indeed taken God's role would be super-difficult, but that could work.
>>
>>36211753
>It also makes sense that the guy that sings can affect more people than the guy with a sword
Yeah, there's also that. Perfect.
>>36211737
How?
>>36211769
>Jafar: This is difficult. Some sort of occult-based check would work to break his magic in some way.
Steal the lamp.
>>36211769
we need less traits that give bonuses to various kinds of attack rolls.
maybe make them not stack together.

>>36211805
>22 may be more than average for character dodge, but the average character was at +15 to hit
Isn't that super high?
>>
>>36211857
+10 from attribute, +3-4 from their skill in the weapon, +2 from (insert random trait here).
>>
>>36211857
Maybe they all took a 12 in their main attribute.
>>
>>36211857
Nope. Sverd is an purposely unoptimized character that I split between combat and music/persuasion and was still rolling with a +21 bonus against the average mook.
>>
>>36211769
No worries. Like I said, we needed to see how a fish out of water would perform anyways.
>>
>>36211890
Oh, ok
Well, if they took a trait just to be good at hitting stuff, maybe they should be good at hitting stuff.
>>36211907
Maybe it's broken traits. How do you get to +21?
>>
>>36211933
Nope.
11 Robust + 6 Melee + 2 from weapon with no shield + 2 from Not on my watch! = 21
>>
>>36211907
>3d6+21
Sheeeit, then why does a mook get a 22in defense? This system is getting fucked up
>>
>>36211971
Well, Sverd is pretty damn good at melee. The average character was rolling +15, because they were ranged which has a lot of bonuses over melee combat.
>>
>>36211955
11 is high, that's half the point you get, 6 is the max in the skill, a big weapon and a +2 from the trait means you specialize in hitting. What if someone doesn't specialize this much? I think mooks should stil be easy to it for unoptimized characters, or they should be called mooks. Mooks sound like they should be easy to defeat.
>>
>>36211971
>>36211955
See, now this is why we did a playtest. Now we know that its pretty damn easy to make it almost impossible to miss a mook.
>>
>>36212005
Don't they get the same bonus? I thought bows and crossbows were actually underpowered, and guns only get one more than a knife. Seems kinda weak.
>>
>>36212033
The average character dodges with 10,5+10+3. That's still impossible to miss. Do mooks have armor?
>>
>>36212098
What's a mook attack bonus? Maybe they hit a lot
>>
>>36212022
Mooks ARE easy to defeat.

If you don't take a single point in any combat skill, no point in robustness or agility and tried to punch to knock out a mook, you'd have a +6 bonus. You'd need to roll a 16 to knock him out.
If you took two points in agility, a ranged weapon and one point in Ranged, your bonus becomes +13. An average roll would knock out a mook.
>>
>>36212139
2/3 mooks that shot at me hit, wearing medium armor, 11 robustness and having a +4 to prevent harm.
Every shot aimed at our support (3 in total) hit easily.

It's both easy to hit and get hit.
>>
>>36212139
+11?
>>36212145
>An average roll would knock out a mook.
Too high, then: mook should be easy to hit for everyone. Mooks are supposed to be cannon fodder.
>>
>>36212207
Ok
>>36212187
How can they hit so much with a +11? Don't you 26 or 27 in defense?
>>
>>36212207
That's if you have ZERO focus on combat.

The average non-combat character will have at least 10 in their main stat, a +5 bonus to their combat skill and a +1 weapon, coming out to a +16 bonus at minimum. The average combat-focused character will have at least a +18. Sverd's bonus against characters that aren't actively trying to hurt innocent people is +19, which is solely average based of other combat characters.
>>
>>36212249
My prevent harm was a little bigger than their attack, but they rolled slightly higher than me two out of three times.
>>
>>36212270
But what if you are not optimized? 5 in a skill a lot, and maybe people are not using weapons but social strikes. +13 sounds like a normal attack bonus. needing a 9 on 3d6 to defeat a mook is a lot.
>>
>>36212321
They have +11 to hit, you have +17 to defend and the roll is a bellcurve. That's very unlucky
>>
>>36212346
9 on 3d6 is significantly common, roughly 60% of the time.

>>36212249
The mooks rolled very high: 6-6-5 and 6-5-5 while he rolled poorly.
>>36212187
It's good to note that the boss was the one shooting at Support, and he had HUGE bonuses to ranged thanks to I'll Take You All On!
>>
>>36211631
I think he might be glimpsed occasionally, through avatars of sorts.

Yen Sid, for instance.
>>
>>36212398
9 on 3d6 is significantly common, roughly 60% of the time.
See? You can't miss a mook 60% of the time, that's not a mook. You don't see random guards dodge the protagonist half the time in a Disney movie.
>The mooks rolled very high: 6-6-5 and 6-5-5 while he rolled poorly.
You can't make a system based on "that time that mook rolled super high".
>>
>>36212346
+13 is not a normal attack bonus.
It is the normal combat bonus for a sensible or smart guy with no focus on combat.
Here were the bonuses from our group against a perfectly average mook:
Me (Strong): +19
Bruce (Sensible): +14
Jeremiah (Nimble): +19
Naacha (Alligator): +15
Hannah (Charming): + 14
>>
>>36212481
Keep in mind that Hannah had only 9 in charming and 4 in music.
>>
>Additonally, we decided that Charming characters would get Charm instead of Agility in place of +Action because that's pretty retarded broken.
Fuck, that's even more broken! You have 5 main stats and one class can use 1 instead of 2?
That's retarded.
Why not give them something less stupid?
>>
>>36212509
How is that retarded? He still needs good Agility or Robustness for Prevent Harm, and good Sensibility/Robustness for Endure. I think you haven't read up enough on this system.

>>36212464
+9 is if a weakling with no actual training swings with an improvised weapon, or someone who has never held a gun before takes a shot at someone.
>>
>>36212481
>>36212504
I thought we were making a system for people that didn't like optimization. 3d6+8+3 should be normal and still get to hit a mook fairly often
>>36212509
We said they should get the extra action, but only against mooks >>36211641
>>
>>36212542
>>36212509
I should clarify that Charm instead of Agility is only on initiative, which is where your confusion may be coming from.
>>
>>36212554
Jesus christ you're refusing to listen.
NO ONE is optimizing. You have to be making an active effort to make a totally fucking useless character to get a combat bonus below +13.
For an unoptimized combat character, the average bonus would be +18, and roughly 14-15 for a non-combat character.
>>
>>36212542
>He still needs good Agility
No he doesn't, you moron: you literally just said that they use Charm instead of Agility, so they don't need Agility.
>>36212554
Literally anything is better than using one stat instead of two
>>
>>36212600
>calling nob a moron
>when you can't read
>>
>>36212594
Oh. You should have said so, then.
>>36212598
8 in the Attribute + 3 in the Skill, thats +11. Sorry if I'm playing a system based on Disney movies and I'd like to not focus on combat but still but useful against fucking mooks. What, it's unrealistic?
>>
>>36212664
I did say so. You just weren't paying attention.

Also; you only have eight in your primary fucking attribute? And no traits or even a weapon if you're not doing Social? What are you doing?
>>
>>36212631
>What is: he made a mistake and it took him one hour to correct it.
And that's even worse: so now he only gets a small bonus to initiative?
>>
>>36212664
If you take 8 in Robustness/Agility and 1 point in a combat skill with no weapon and expect to be useful in any sort of combat, you're crazy.

It's like rolling up a non-magic character in D&D with 6 Con, 7 Dex and no weapons and then complaining when you can't fight.
>>
>>36212713
A charming character should have at least 9 Charm because otherwise what's the point? then he's getting +9 to his Initiative. I was under the impression that people had paid attention to the last thread, where we had discussed this extensively. My apologies.
>>
>>36212706
No, you didn't say that. You said it here>>36212594. >>36212713 is right, that's late.

>>
>>36212769
If his Agility is 6 he's getting an extra +3 to Intiative, not a lot for a class power. Why not just do the extra action against mooks instead of more math.
>>
>>36212774
Whe did these threads turn to everyone arguing with the same two namefags? If we had a lot of cool material going on, but now the thing is dying because the super namefag friends are doing everything themselves and shutting down everyone else.
>>
>>36212859
I didn't want to be the one to say it, but Nob, you're getting unbearable. You can't just jump in and say we should do it your way because fuck it, you're the boss.
I also don't like Charm to Initiative: what the fuck is the point?
>>
>>36212774
Good lord.

Let me break it down for you since you seem to be too retarded to understand this otherwise.
Strong guy: By taking primarily skills related to being athletic and fit, the AVERAGE, NON-MINMAXING WHY DO YOU KEEP FUCKING SAYING THIS NO ONE IS POWERGAMING player will come out to a +18 bonus for melee, or a +16 for brawl.
Nimble guy: By taking primarily skills related to being quick, acrobatic and nimble, the average player will come out to a +18 bonus for ranged combat.
Sensible guy: By taking a variety of out-of-combat useful skills, such as Insight, stealth, and travel the average player will come out to a +14 bonus in melee or ranged as a secondary purpose.
Smart guy: By taking out-of-combat useful skills, such as Occult, Driving and Mechanics, the average player will come out to a +14 bonus in melee or ranged as a secondary purpose.
Charismatic guy: By taking social skills such as Music and Persuasion, the average player will come out to a +16 bonus to social combat.
>>36212859
This is the first time I've ever argued in any thread.

>By taking primarily skills related to being athletic and fit, the AVERAGE, NON-MINMAXING WHY DO YOU KEEP FUCKING SAYING THIS NO ONE IS POWERGAMING player will come out to a +18 bonus for melee, or a +16 for brawl.
How? Because 11 in an attribute is a lot, +6 in a skill is a lot, that's exactly what power gaming is. What if I don't want to put EVERYTHING is one stat and instead play the strong guy who's also charismatic? Do I have to suck even against mooks because of it?
>>
>>36213021
IIRC, it's pretty impossible to suck against mooks.
>>
>>36213021
The majority of combat characters I've seen have 12 in their primary attribute, some have 11, not many have 10. I'm literally fucking playing the strong guy who's charismatic, jesus christ. My bonus to Music and Persuade is +15. That's THREE less than my bonus to melee. The literal existence of my character proves your argument has no ground.
>>
>>36212998
All these knights but one would have problems reliably defeating mooks with their swords. A PC should have to roll 11 on 3d6 just to hit a mook. Mooks are not supposed to be this problematic, even fpr unoptimized characters.
>>
>>36212806
>EXTRA ACTION
Action economy is a thing. This snaps it over a Charming knee.

>>36212920
I'm sorry you feel that way. Charm to Initiative is so that Charming characters don't suffer from MAD (Multi-Attribute Dependence) more than any other character. Most characters have multiple things they can do, but at the moment Charming characters only really do the skills Persuade, Music, and Deceit well.

>>36213021
Let's assume you have 9 in an attribute. Any attribute, really. All attributes but Intelligence have an attack method to be used, which is okay because Intelligence is used for like 75% of all skills. Unless you put only points in intelligence and just dump all your stats into Intelligence, leaving the rest to waste, you'll be competent at defeating Mooks.

>>36213097
All fo those knights hit on 11 or less. what are you talking about/
>>
>>36213088
You put half your points in one stat, max out a skill and take a trait to improve your attack bonus. That's a combat character. What if I want to use my traits to make an interesting character, instead of taking Weapon Focus, because duh, that's how you play a fighter in D&D?
>>36213061
+8+3+1 and I need a 10 to hit them. Mooks should easier to hit.
>>
>>36213097
2 have to roll 11,1 has to roll 10, and 1 has to roll 9. The average roll is 9.5, so I'd say they can take down mooks with reasonable consistency.
>>
>>36213156
>What if I want to use my traits to make an interesting character, instead of taking Weapon Focus, because duh, that's how you play a fighter in D&D?
Traits, powers, all the skill points and stat points you didn't put into combat skills and stats.
>>
>>36213156
Naacha here, while I found hitting mooks easy enough, you do have a point.
>>
>>36213146
>All fo those knights hit on 11 or less. what are you talking about/
That's the problem. this way a PC should roll 11 to hit a mook. That's too high.
>Charm to Initiative is so that Charming characters don't suffer from MAD (Multi-Attribute Dependence) more than any other character
It's immersion breaking and it's too litle. An extra actions only usable against mooks wouldn't break the economy: mooks alway go down by the dozen in Disney movies.
>>
>>36213222
You do realize the average roll is 9.5, no, sorry, 10.5, right?
>>
>>36213157
I shouldn't miss half the time against a mook! That's not Disney, that's "optimize or get the fuck out" edition.
>>
>>36213260
Yes, that's the problem: you get 11 only half the times. You shouldn't miss a FUCKING mook half the time! That's not what the word means!
>>
>>36213156
You've moved goalposts so many times it's almost comical.
>Why can't I make a character who's utter shit in physical and social combat with 12 in sensibility and intelligence but still can defeat everyone just as well as the fighter, bard and archer?
>Because if you make a character that's so utterly shit in combat it voids every single rule we've written to make combat accessible to every character that's your problem
>But my 6 robustness, 6 agility character who's never touched a weapon in his life should be able to beat mooks just as easily as the battle-hardened cowboy and warrior who's been training all his life!
>That's retarded.
>Your character is just a powergaming piece of shit who's not interesting and from D&D! I want to play a strong guy who also somehow has shit combat skills and no ability to fight! Everyone who actually puts skills into reasonable places is just a OPTIMIZER!
>Actually, my character with a +19 combat bonus is one above the average bonus and has a +15 to charisma skills, so the 'strong guy who is also charismatic' you described is not only viable, but already done.
>SHUT UP D&D POWERGAMING OPTIMIZING PIECE OF SHIT IT'S MY RIGHT TO MAKE A TERRIBLE CHARACTER AND SKILL BE GREAT AT EVERYTHING

Kind of an 'I AM SILLY' I know, but this is the closet to that actual argument occurring in real life I've ever seen.
>>

>>36213265
>>36213288

I don't really know the system you're all working on and I don't want to interrupt anything, but thess guys have a point: missing a mook half the time is a lot. You shouldn't need optimization just to kill one mook.
>>
>>36213288
>>36213361
You miss a mook half the time if;
You have less than average in the trait you're attacking with,
You're not using a weapon (because Defense is lower for Social attacks than physical due to Prevent Harm being different from Endure)
You have no skill in the method you're talking about or are only barely skilled in it,
And nobody is using Music in your entire party.

>>36213265
This is for literally a starting character. Not a character with a modicum of experience fighting the FORCES OF EVIL, a character taking a swing at a soldier with a table leg. The problem with the old system is that you literally could not miss -- Our character who was worst at dealing Strikes was at +14 to hit, and Defense was at 17-18.

I just want to play in a Disney game where I can focus on stuff outside of combat but still be able to his ONE FUCKING MOOK at least one time out of two. That's seems reasonable to me: they are mooks, they should come by the dozen.
But no, please, keep going, straw man harder and just do whatever you want with a collaborative game on an anonymous board where everything is apparently decided by the same namefag.
>>
I'm fine with mooks, but I still want something more for Charming Guys: a bonus to initiative is just sad. Why not the extra action against mooks? They suck and everyone can alway hit them, tight? So why not make it faster for someone to take them down? I'm not the first that seems to like it.

I don't see why you can't understand that that's not only possible but has already been done MULTIPLE TIMES.
Look at Bruce - non-combat character (Sensible Guy) who has primarily social and sensiblity-based skills, with two points in agility and one point in ranged. +14 bonus, hit every Mook.

You fucking CAN play as a character almost entirely focused on out-of-combat stuff and still be useful in combat, I don't know why you keep retardedly insisting you can't.

For a starting character it's just fine. Your bonuses are only going to go up, and as you advance through the tiers you get to roll 4d6 then 5d6, shifting your average up 3.5 each time. In no time you'll be blazing through mooks.

Besides, if everyone hit mooks all the time, what would the point of making a combat-focused character be?

A quick poll so that we can move to things that are actually important instead of making the repetitive and awful argument that TN22 somehow makes it impossible for non-combat focused characters to be useful in combat.

>>36212964
Well, we had to do it eventually if we wanted something done. Can't just speculate about fluff forever.

TN18 is nearing trivial difficulty. A person with an incredible weakness in that stat (6 in the attribute) and no training, equipment or skills could succeed 40% of the time.

>>
>>36213704
In fact, some enemies will either be immune to melee strikes, or you'll need to actually talk someone into doing something that they at first refuse to do. For example, trying to kill Elsa would almost surely result in your icy death. Even at Hero tier.

On a semi-related note, I'm of the opinion that the first two Pirates of the Caribbean movies should go exactly as they had. Barbossa got exactly what he wanted: freedom from the curse. The only things that happened differently was Beckett did not order Davy Jones to kill the Kraken, and Will, Elizabeth and Barbossa failed to get Jack back from the Locker. I think this ties up things quite well unless I'm missing something huge.

Okay, it took a while to make, but here's Jack the Monkey's KLR. It's my first one, so feel free to sound off:

King: Captain Jack The Monkey, Pirate Lord of the Near Eastern Seas - Ghostly Trickster. After Barbossa and his crew spilled Will Turner’s blood on the Aztec gold, they were now free to spend it. Unbeknownst to the pirates, however, Barbossa’s pet Jack the monkey stole a piece of the Aztec treasure for himself, giving him the undead immortality the crew of the Black Pearl formerly possessed. Time passed, and Barbossa noticed his monkey’s unnaturally long life and frightening cunning. When he found out the truth, he was so amused that he decided to buy his pet a pirate ship of his own, dubbed the Chasing Million (or “The Mil” for short,), and a sum of gold to make his own way. Barbossa had no idea what he had unleashed. Jack the Monkey’s name soon became known among the corsairs of the world for both his cunning and resiliency and his singular crew—the mates of his pirate ship are all animals, ranging from the mundane to the absurd. Similarly, Jack the Monkey’s primary business is largely with the inhabitants of the Beastly realms—be they good or evil—though will deal with humans if the price is high enough. That said, he delights in making fools out of humans and Beasts alike, and is notorious for his organized “raids” of large-scale pickpocketing of coastal settlements. His might got to such an extent that he managed to earn the title of Pirate Lord of the Indian Ocean. His proximity to the Eastern India Trading Company and The Elite Global Huntsman’s Club ensures that he maintains a brisk business, as well as entertaining rivals to baffle and enrage in equal terms.
>>
>>36214364
Let's jus say that on a roll tier characters can apply the same attack roll to 5 mooks, and that hero tier character can apply the same attack roll to 10 mooks. So, zero level hits or misses one, on a roll level hits or misses five, hero level hits or misses ten.
>>
>>36214492
Nah, just by someone from there.
>>
>>36214510

Land: Captain Jack’s waters extend over a good portion of the West African, Middle Eastern and Asian coasts, and can be found active anywhere from the Red Sea to Dino Island’s northern coast to Shere Khan’s realm. Sometimes, he even goes on jaunts through EITC territory on lucrative missions to China or Australia, which annoys Lord Cutler Beckett to no end. Other times, he will handle difficult Beast passengers for other pirates (the former King John of Britain being a prime example). The island of Naboombu is in his purview, and has made trips there before, of varying legality.

Rule: Captain Jack the Monkey gives not a flying shit about who you are or what you might be up to aboard his vessel, as long as you’re not a human (after several bad encounters with the Huntsman’s Guild). Only Beast characters are allowed on the Chasing Million, and they are expected to visibly get along, lest they suffer the Captain’s wrath. Thus, Captain Jack’s ship is one of the safer places for refugees or adventurers from various Beast kingdoms to travel if they don’t want to risk travel by land. He charges a steep price for passage, though, but at least won’t directly sell you out to poachers or hunters. He backs up his rules by both his ghastly aura and the larger, toothier members of his crew. Good thing he has a sense of humor, twisted may it be. Just be careful—he’s not nearly as faithful to the Pirate Code as some.

I also still have Captain Hook's and Chernabog's KLR's if anyone wants me to repost.

As an animal, I assume. I'll get to writing, then!

Only against standard mooks, though. Special mooks(if we're going to do something like that) and villains should obviously be immune to this.

In the Nimble Guy section, it mentions moving stealthily reduces speed. Should this reduce speed by 10 meters, or what?

Should we up the buffs on Music? We never really got to see a chance of them being used in the playtest. What else should music do, other than buffing people in combat?

anons ive just realized something.

at the end of alantis, rourke was stabbed with part of the crystal and he crystalized.

Butting in real quick to say the 5/10 rules only works for Melee or brawl characters. It doesn't make sense for a ranged character (Unless, maybe, they're using a bow or slingshot), but the basic idea is good. However, there should be some account for difference in combat strength - The party specialist brawler should take out more mooks in a turn than the half fighter half mechanic/doctor in the party.

Also, Music does still need an out-of-combat buff, and an in-combat buff for On-A-Roll/Hero.

Strikes, skills, attributes, the 3d6 system, Defense, Powers, and 80% of the traits. Looks like we're still using those.

Sing to the tune of “What’s this” – The Nightmare before Christmas, 1993 version
PRIDELANDS LION
What’s this? What’s this?
There’s no color anywhere
What’s this?
There’s shadows in the air
What’s this?
I can’t believe my eyes
I must me dreaming
Wake up then, this isn’t fair
What’s this?

What’s this? What’s this?
There’s something very wrong
What’s this?
I can’t hear any song

What’s this?
The streets are lined with
Little creatures dying
Everybody seems so sadly
Have I possibly gone daffy?
What is this?
What is this?

There are tiny run-down stalls
And poor, dirty sheds
They’re busy off being killjoys
But I don’t see anyone dead

There’s shadows on every window
Oh, I can’t believe my eyes
And in my heart I feel the darkness
That’s coming from inside

Oh, look
What’s this?
They’re shooting so hard and they miss
Why that looks unique and almost inspired
They’re gathering round to hear some story
Roasting rat on a small stick
What’s this?
What’s this.

In here they’ve got a little shrine, how queer
And who would ever think
And why?

They’ve covering it with tiny little things
Got tiny trinkets held with string
So now, correct me if I’m wrong
But I can’t see the sun
Might been sold in some bargain
Why do I feel so sluggish?
What’s this?

Oh my, what now?
The homeless are asleep
But look, there’s nothing underneath
Not a blanket, not a penny to rest down by their side
Their ensnarement and all their things
Exist only in their mind
What’s this?

The animals are all missing
And true nature can’t be found
And in their place there seems to be
Only misery all around

Instead of screams, I swear
I hear violence in the air
The smell of failure and the threat of bones
Is absolutely everywhere

FINAL NEXT POT

Oh, I just want to be home
I’ve got to know
I’ve got to go
Where’s the balance, can’t be found?
What is this?

So I'm wondering: Should we have a separate doc for setting fluff, a la Shadowrun's Sixth World Almannac? There's a lot of supplementary setting material that isn't quite like KLR's or the character-driven stuff that makes up the fluff catalogue, which is getting pretty long.

Plus, that Japan supplement needs to go somewhere.

Honestly, it would be easier if Nob and his friends didn't call every other idea retarded. They are running away a lot of people here.

I've actually been thinking that something like that- not full crystal-ification, but some sort of crystal patch or splinter on the palm- might be used as a sort of security system for Atlantean super-science. Only people with the splinter are capable of activating Atlantean crystal tech, and it won't work for anyone without it. The flying laser sharks in the movie are activated by a palm, which at least suggests a biometric security system of some kind- the splinter think would be the modern-day knockoff.

We should also make a few failsafes so that people don't just metagame villains to death. What killed/trapped them before should not work here. If it does, the players would had to have known about this weakness in-character OR the Sensible Guy would have to suss it out by talking to him.
>>

>>36215193

I think these guys might have a point, but still

This is a pivotal point in sorting out rules: after the first tests, during alpha. I can kinda see why we shouldntry to hammer it out now, but there's some lost assholes around here that don't know how to be civil and then claim they were the majority.

But still, I think everyone could go for cooling down a bit. Last time when we were burned out it worked well, twice actually. Last time we spoke about brazilian folklore for 2/3s of a thread and the next one had some prime material

So maybe let's all go with these guys and sit down for a bit, drink something, and put down these pitchforks, wands, and bottles of holy fire
>>
Has anyone started the development of each nation under the evil king/queen's rule? I have a few ideas for the Sultanate and the Aztec empire. Also describing how the original heroes died and the results of their deaths are important to give context to the story.

ok heres my take on the crystal

because it was rourke stabbed with a shard that causes crystalization, its safe to assume that it needs to contact your blood

the crystal over time has been looking more and more like kida over the years as kida gets more infused with it.
>shes ethier dead or in a coma like state
>she basically is the crystal

rourkes men have been advised to wear hazmat suits just in case.
the alantean people were they because they never really cut themselves with the smaller crystals, and even then they act as filters.

rourke carries a knife made out of it, in case of subordination

there were a couple of times when a mook did get impaled or cut and got crystallized. he strangly started attacking anyone that was near before he was sliced and diced by security.

it needs to be the size of a knife wound for it to happen just like in the film

>>
>>36215580
>The belief that /tg/ gets shit done

I'd say the fact that we took an interesting idea and built a fully-functional system with incredible amounts of fluff in a week or two proves that we do indeed get shit done.
Now we just need to continue to get shit done and refine more until we hit the second playtest, which will probably give us the insight we need to take us into a solid beta.
>>
>>36215525
we assume that the laws are fairly similar with minor differences based on what pisses that villain off.
the only ones that have governers are non autocrats like slim

have they divided it up? not really no, theyre too egotistical really.

taxes? yes they use their lackeys for doomsday style taxing
>>
>>36215525

I feel like the ones more likely to appoint governors would be Shan Yu, Jaffar, Facilier, maybe Izma, and Frollo

The others probably don't care enough, although I can kinda see it in Alameda Slim's old west. Although it is probably more a case of "the guy that has the bullets to keep things in order becomes the governor AND the sheriff of the area"
>>
>>36215697
>>36215652
>>36215617
Okay. So some governors do (The human ones who can't just rule over their own tiny patch of land) but the rest(Beast-kings, Hades, Pirates) don't bother, and a handful have no people to actually rule (Firebird, Aurora, Cherrybomb).

What about travel? What countries can freely leave? What countries still depend on horses or the like for transport, and what countries have good navies/techniology for motor carriages?
>>
>>36215633
>>36215580
Yeah, /tg/ has done wonderfully with this. The rules getting fluffed out is great its the, you know, actual fluff I am most impressed with.

I wonder how the Hector Heresy thing is coming along....
>>
>>36215785
Everything in Europe is straight medieval.
>>
>>36215785

Jaffar's kingdom definitely has the most travel. Open-borders can't possibly exist, but it isn't INSANELY hard to leave and enter, specially because of all the trade routes and whatnot.

I'd say motors aree a thing of the ocident by now, unless the huns are really really good at engineering. Alameda, Facilier, Rourke, are the ones more likely to have motors and whatnot.

Frollo and Grimhilde have more archaic means of transportation I feel

Jaffar and Shan Yu might have imported some, but I don't know if it fits
>>
>>36215880
I'd say the far east should be mostly full-on Age of Sail style with the occasional Atlantean warship cruising through.
Frollo and Grimhilde are likely relying on wagon-pulled carts, yeah.

What are the restrictions on buying weapons and explosives, poison, etc in each country?
>>
>>36215985
Rourke's society should be the most free and open about ownership of personal weapons, explosives, etc. They'd be tightly regulated in most other places, but then you have places like the Caliphate where you can easily get said weapons from the many black markets.
>>

>>36215985
Explosives are exclusive to military and government, with some exceptions for mining and the like with special permits, across the board in medieval-land. Given that the Sultanate is black-market-land, explosives might nominally be illegal but are freely available anyway. Readily available in places like the Shadowlands, Wild West, Atlantis, Virginia, etc. Sunless Empire probably just flat-out doesn't have them. Neither does El Dorado. Or Olympus, probably. Beast Kingdoms don't have them, legal by default in EITC and Pirate lands, Huns do their level best to keep knowledge of gunpowder a secret, known only by their alchemists.

How severe would the punishments be for someone caught with banned substances in these countries? What would the Huns do about, say, a smart character with No More Chinese Laundry?

Ever since Plane Crazy's Ratigan fluff this has been bugging me.

Should the characters from Ratatouille be in the base game? Granted, it's Pixar, but it's small enough in scale that it wouldn't affect much.

Plus the idea of some rat heroes would be hella cool.
>>
>>36216924
By that, do you mean intelligent rats and Remy in some form, or the actual human chefs?
>>
>>36216924
OH FUCK
I FORGOT TO MAKE STATS FOR MICE CHARACTERS

Uh, fuck. Here's an idea:
Tiny character,
+2 Intelligence, -2 Robustness, +2 Agility.
+2 to Legerdemain
+3 to Stealth where visual detection is an issue.
1 rank in Mechanics.

That look okay?
>>
>>36216924
If you can be a pixie, you can be a rat/mouse. Sure.
>>
>>36216951

I mean the rats, natch. Do they help the ailing Rescue Aid Society? Do they join Ratigan? Both?

My current headcanon is that Remy (and maybe a couple relatives) manages to find his way aboard Jack the Monkey's ship, where he's the cook.

The human chefs have all packed up and moved away after the resturant failed. That's all, unless you want to do something else with them.
>>
>>36217024
I'd assume it'd be a more case-by-case GM thing, but if you want to write some fluff for the rumor mill, then it's definitely something I can see people adding in.
>>
>>36217063

I'm not sure, I'm not too good with story fluff, it's more descriptive and general, along the line of KLR's or general rumors.

Still though, I'm no furry, but the Beast World honestly has gotten no love. It has 2 mouseworld fluffs, the What's This? song, and Kaa's KLR, and that's about it.

Not to mention the fact that I now need to rewatch both Rescuers movies to see which characters could feasibly survive.
>>
>>36217159
I agree with you there. Talking animals are practically a staple of Disney (But so help me god if anyone makes an anthromorphic character I will purge it), and we haven't put all THAT much focus on them. Africa in general needs some more fluff and traits and whatnot.
>>
>>36217202

Speaking of, I put the needed KLR's in 1d4chan's To Do list.
>>
what happened to using agility for melee combat as well, like fencing instead of just crushing your enemy?
>>
>>36217315
As an actual real-life fencer I can safely say that Robustness has as much value in fencing as Agility does. You do bring up a good point though, as there should be some way to more directly factor agility into melee, perhaps.
>>
>>36217159
>Not to mention the fact that I now need to rewatch both Rescuers movies to see which characters could feasibly survive.

Someone should. The remnants of the Rescue Aid Society are the only thing standing up to Ratigan. Although, I see two versions, one is a bunch of semi-deluded people who still hold meetings where they sing the R-E-S-C-U-E song, and collect the many, many, MANY, bottles from the distressed. Then they talk about helping, and then Ratigan's goons swing by and they all shrink down back into their homes.

The other are the members of the Rescue And Truth Society. Bernard, Bianca, and Jake have turned into hard core SAS style organization.

And yes, Bianca picked the name specifically.

"If Ratigan is so intent on calling himself a mouse, then I'd rather be a rat!" The white mouse said to the group. "We are in our darkest hour, ladies and gentlemen. This is the time when History will look upon the Society, and what will they see? Cowards? Or those who held to our values and the truth?"

"Crikey," Jake said to Bernard. "Gal's all wound up, ain't she?"

Bernard nodded. "I'm a little scared of her when she gets like this." He sighed. "You sure you want part of this?"

Jake shrugged. "Home's gone to pot, might as well go out doing something right. Might as well die with the rest of the RATS."

Also, here's an idea for Lackeys, (who are barely a step up from Mooks); While they have stats comparable to a Zero-tier character, they have 2 strikes + 1 more for each PC in the party.
Seem imbalanced?
>>
>>36217574
>7-strike Lackeys

WAT NO

Lackeys are like the bigger, stronger Sergent of the military squad. They should have two strikes at the most.
>>
>>36217566
And that gives me a perfect idea.

Anton Ego is a clerk for the Inquisition. He writes down what the interrogated say, makes comments on his fellow members of the Inquisition, and his reports are well received by His Holiness.

People think him a grim and horrible man. The perfect example of the banality of evil, the kind that speaks softly and uses a pencil to do, and justify, horrible things.

And yet...when he goes to sleep in his small room...there is a part of him that weeps for every victim. A part that remembers his mother, her cooking, and the time when he didn't have to be so...cold.

>>
>>36217403

Oh hells to the yes.

Better yet, why not combine the two? Have the weak ineffectual Rescue Aid Society as a front (and a place to weed out spies) while the RATS do the *real* work behind the scenes.

Hell, maybe the RATS' base is in the one place Ratigan and his lackey's dare not tread...Scotland, the Realm of the Bear.
>>
>>36217637
Mooks are, well, mooks.
Lackeys are the local leaders of mooks, like an Inquisitor with a bunch of zealot mooks.
Inner Circle are the underboss, some could even have puzzle endings starting here and this is where 'serious' threats begin - an Inner Circle villain could reasonably knock out a party member in a starting party. They're like No One.
Villain - Obvious. Jafar, Yzma, Slim, all of the above.
God - Chernabog. Aurora. Firebird. Don't expect to defeat one of these guys without an exact understand and specific weapons and abilities to beat them. Maybe a couple million soldiers with pure and honest hearts to call to the Sun using that song I wrote about it to kill Chernabog or the like.
Top tier- Walt
>>
>>36217751
Whoops, swapped 'Villain' for King. Replace that.
Villains are actually like a step-up from No One, people of huge power and importance but aren't quite the King yet. Think Hans.

Duly noted. Here's a quick attempt to hash out some actual stats at each tier;
Mook: No strikes. Average stat of 7. One rank in skills related to their job. Defense 22
Lackey: Two strikes. Average stat of 7. One rank in skills related to their job, and two in their primay skill. Defense 23(?)
Inner Circle: A variable number of Strikes (Example; 2+Number of people in party), Character-level stats (average stats of 8, possibly higher), Two ranks in skills related to their job, One rank in a smattering of other skills. Rolls for Prevent Harm/Endure.
Villain: Varying number of strikes (Example: Three strikes+2x the number of people in the party), Average stats of eight+3 more points, varying number of ranks in their skills depending on how important they are -- usually between three and five ranks in skills important to their job, Two in some others and one in the rest.
King: Will likely need unique stats for each King. However, no King should have sub-15 Strikes and should have very good attributes.
Gods: Don't even have a stat-line. You can fight them, sure, but you'll lose. Puzzle boss time!

Thoughts?

Put mooks at one strike.

When the non-Disney expansion rolls around, can we throw in the unknown?
>>
>>36217778

The really fun part is that it could be a global network to rival Ratigan's, with the added twist that members could be of any species.

Maybe they could even function as an efficient delivery/reconnaissance method between the resistances of each empire.

Hot damn, you could make this shit a big deal if you wanted to.
>>
>>36217849
Maybe make Lackey defense a little higher. I'm thinking TN25 - Still pretty easy to hit, but considerably more difficult than a mook.
>>36217884
Nah, we should leave mooks at zero. They're mooks - A Disney protagonist ever having trouble taking one out is practically unheard of.
>>
>>36217901
>>36217884
Gonna agree with Sverd here -- Mooks only real threat is if there's a LOT of them. Even a non-combat character should be able to deal with one or two with relative ease. Of course, playtesting may vindicate you, so I'll reserve real judgement on this till after the second playtest.
>>
>>36217901
Maybe we should test mook strength. See what works smoother.

I do agree with upping Lackeys to 25.
>>
>>36217948
so with mooks is it how high you roll = how many you defeat?
>>
>>36217987
Well, IIRC from earlier in the thread it was decided that when you upped a tier you'd hit more mooks per strike: one at a time at Zero, five at a time at On-a-roll, ten at a time at Hero. 'course, we could also rule that if you manage to hit a mook for two strikes, you manage to take out him and his buddy if there are any left. Thoughts?

>>36217982
I'll try making mooks a bit tougher in the next playtest, we'll see how that goes. It's one of those things that you can math all you want, but at the end of the day it needs to be tested out.
>>
>>36217987
What we've generally decided on is that at zero, you take out a single Mook per roll, as on-a-roll you take out five-ish plus one for every four (maybe five) for every roll as a Melee, brawl or social (Probably three instead of 4/5 for social) with no idea about Ranged yet, and as a hero you take out 15 or so plus two for every fourish your roll as Melee, brawl or social, with social taking out more, and still no idea about melee.
>>
>>36218031
Ranged*
The last word is ranged, not melee

I must have missed it. Which thread was it in?

Lovin' how this movie has been seamlessly absorbed into DVV canon. No muss, No fuss.

Also, if there isn't a cooking trait someone really should crunch one out.

In one RPG session I played the fact that one of the PCs made incredible booze got us out of a really big fight.

Ah, that's why, I forgot to check some of the pastebin links when I was first scanning.
Gimme a minute here.

Rumor Mills Coming Soon!

>>36218187
to be fair though the only reasons why there have been problems with other disney series is because theyre set in modern times

which reminds me
it isnt animated, but what are the chances of The Lone Ranger appearing in The Old West

Think I have an idea, but I need to know a bit more about Bagheera. What's his domain like?
>>
>>36218639

~~NOBODY KNOOWS.~~

Seriously.

There is exactly zero material for Bagheera. Zip. I should know, I've actually just finishing my trawl through the archives.
>>
>>36218718
Well then, guess I'll have to get creative here.
>>
>>36218639
His existence is basically just to oppose Sher Khan
>>
>>36218454
well obviously the villain from that might as well be slim since they had the same goal

The Indian escaped his slavery and got vengeance but never justice. he wanders around the desert, as souless as the ones who cursed him, thinking of only one thing
Kill Slim

The lone Ranger was a threat to slim for Silver answered to the rangers call and never slims yodeling.

the ranger wanders the barren lands in exile, the only stories you ever hear about him are as bleak and harsh as the sands itself. ghost stories equal to the carribean

>the truth is that he cannot accept his failures and wanders the wilds, getting dangerously close to Kaa's Jungle
>>
>>36218718

I'm*

Oh, I almost forgot. All we know is that he was pissed off that Mowgli and Baloo died.
Still though, that's a rumor.

why? The NSA doesnt care about anything you do unless you're plotting to blow some shit up. I'd be more worried about the FBI and the ATF. Luckily bureaucracy prevents the interdepartmental cohesion required to fuck me over.
