You wake up by degrees- An eye cracking open as the light glitters through the foliage, A nose twitching at unfamiliar scents, ears resounding with the patter of leaves dripping.

Your body comes to life as you yawn. You tilt your head one way, then the other, the satisfying crack of your neck bringing a smile to your face. Even spiders love to stretch.

Your fingers curl and find something warm, and you look down- Nin still sleeping, cupped in one arm, clutching at your shirt. Sheszka, apparently dissatisfied with the level of attention she's been receiving, wriggled her way under one arm- snoring gently with a smile on her face, your hand sitting idly on her head.

You're not sure if she did that on purpose, or if your subconscious took care of it all on it's own.

In any case, you aren't going anywhere without waking a small pile of sleeping monsters.
The softest captivity.

You let loose another yawn, eyes squeezing shut as your jaw protests. Your fangs shimmer in the morning light, and you blink back tears before settling back into your pile of friends. You pull Nin a little closer, start curling your fingers through Sheszka's brilliant silver-white hair. Both reward you with contented noises, sleepy smiles.

This is a simple sort of happiness.
One that you don't plan on giving up.

>Sleep in a bit. Who cares?
>Wake your friends gently. There's stuff to do. There's always stuff to do.

I put it where I thought it would be based on mountains, weather, and town gaps.

I can rob ably finagle the land bridge when I get home, but based on the forest as a scale it would be a little long geologically unless I bring the mountains down there

>>
>>36227625

>>
>>36227578
I would also like to visit mom's sister and her family before the leave the forest.
>>
>>36227578
Not that interested, but we can take mom on a trip down there to learn more about the history of the forest realm, before we travel out into the forest.
Maybe learn what races lived in it.

No, Hold up. Back up a minute.

Sheszka does not have white hair. At all.
You look down.

Her hair is a silver-y white, all the brighter against her tanned skin. Her ears have changed to match- perfect little triangles sticking out of the wild mass of her hair.

Which is down to her waist, now. You'll need to make her something to tie it back with.
Her tail is the same shimmering colour, but you can't see her paws like this.

On one hand, you almost want to wake her up, just to see what she can do.
On the other-

You run your fingers through the newly grown mop of hair, combing it out slowly, paying special attention around her ears. It doesn't take long for her tail to start swishing behind her, flipping her hair back and forth here they meet. You giggle softly, but it's enough.

The wolf's head turns ever so slightly, and your gaze is met with a sleepy red eye peering from behind a cloak of hair.

You laugh aloud this time, brushing the strands back and out with one hand, throwing them over her shoulder as your pack-mate yawns.

"Mnnn. Alpha."
"Good morning, Sheszka. Did you have a good rest?"
"I had a dream..."

You smile a little wider.
"A dream, yes? What was it about?"
"There was a voice, and- and-"

She shoots up all at once, firing herself a neat foot into the air. SHe hangs there for a split-second, eyes wide, mouth grinning, her hair forming a massive halo above her, catching the light like silk.
"Lyra! Alpha!"
>>
>>36227578

He was so happy last time when we had Rei and Jin. Imagine his surprise when we've grown two evolutions and have a werewolf tagging along.

> "Oh, little one. It's you again... But not so little now are we? How long has it been? How many turnings of the sun since last you came down here?"
> "Three weeks, yes."
> "Hmmmm..... I see. Three weeks... Wait, three... Well, youngsters certainly are developing quickly nowadays. Just be careful not to let your feet outpace your good sense, little spinner. As below, so above, the world is a dangerous place, and all of the gods children are precious."
>>
>>36227775
Your giggling bubbles out of control, and you snatch the wolf one handed, dragging her against you.
The pattern on her paw has vanished with the change, but the marks around her eyes are now a deep red, the same colour as your shell.

She squirms in your grip, trying to get her arms free and throw them around you. Your giggling turns infectious, as your impromptu wrestling match sends the wolf into a fit, tail wagging wildly, laughing and pushing and hugging as best she can.

She gets her arms around you, grinding her head against your stomach, her ears flopping back and forth.
"Thank you! Thank you- I'll be good, I'll be so good and strong and I'll be strong for you!"

She pants a little, breathless after her declaration, eyes clear with delight, locked on yours.

Nin rolls over in your arms, opening one eye and yawning as she looks at your wolf.
"Who's this now?"

You laugh.

"Oh, have you not met?"
"Wha-"
"Nin, this is Sheszka, Yes? Sheszka, this is Nin."

The two stare blankly at each other for a moment, confusion written all over your wolf's face. Her language is a world apart from where it was, but sarcasm is not her strong suit.

Nin is the first one to break free.
"Hello."
"Good morning."

She turns to you, and Sheszka does the same.
"Does everyone around you change colour constantly? If I am to be a rainbow, I want to know ahead of time."
"My sister has a great many dyes, yes? All you have to do is say the word."

She snorts.
"I will take it into consideration, then."

You nod.
"While we are speaking, then: Do you plan on sleeping like this every night?"

Nin blinks up at you, wide eyed, before she looks around. The way you have her tucked into the crook of your arm, her hand still gripping the silk of your shirt. The wide drool stain right next to her head.

There's a moment of silence and blushing, but she bounces back fast, turning up her nose as she answers.
"Yes."

Maybe you didn't think this through.
"Yes?"
"You have promised my safety and comfort, have you not? Would a Queen go back on her word so soon?"
"I am not a queen. And I am not seeing how a promise of safety means that I am a mattress, yes?"

"Ah tut tut tut-"
She taps your nose lightly with one finger.
"-One cannot treat ones subjects so callously! Consider this your first lesson in ruling."

You rub your nose.
"I do not want lessons-"
"You have offered, and I have accepted. That is all there is to it!"

You stand up, Sheszka following, and head for breakfast.
You have a feeling that you lost, and you're not quite sure where you went wrong.

Late game Lyra?
>>
>>36230016
>>36229984
We probably have enough basic knowledge to make a gun. All we need is a long hollow pole with rifling on the inside, small shell shaped bullets (all easy with forge magic), and an explosive agent to go in the other end. With Sara's new found love for explosions that shouldn't be too hard either.

I'm more worried about a rifle knocking Nin out of the air whenever she fires if it has too much kick
>>
>>36229984
a miniature crossbow would approximate a black-powder pistol.
>>
>>36230059
We probably don't have the machinery for proper rifling or the knowledge on how to make it. But the idea is there, so with time it'll make itself.
>>
>>36230030
Why not enchant crystals that create a small boom that is focused enough to launch projectiles and have that be in the cartridge portion of the boolet? Or if we want to be even more lazy, stick it in the firing pin mechanism so it can fire off multiple rounds before being spent.
Or just create wands with handles. Whats the worst that could happen?
>>
>>36230059

If she develops air magic (logical for moth evolutions to prioritize), she can use that to compensate. Alternately, we can build air magic into it to compensate in a similar fashion to the 500 magnum.
>>
>>36230059
>All we need is a long hollow pole with rifling on the inside, small shell shaped bullets (all easy with forge magic), and an explosive agent to go in the other end.
Thats not even remotly enough to make even the most primitive of firearms.

And the rifling isn't actually necessary if we want to start with a musket instead of going straight for the far more complex rifle, which would require properly shaped ammunition too, which is a lot harder to do than musket rounds.
>>
>>36230030
We would be better off going straight to smokeless powder using materials like gun cotton and nitric acid. Lyra's browsed wikipedia enough to know the basics I'm sure.
>>
>>36230059
If its a magitek gun then it would have no recoil in theory. So what we would need to do is craft a rifle or pistol frame, enchant it with magic bullshit to fire rounds and then we would have a way to have long range support from tiny moth.
>>
honestly would prefer us not developing firearms, its pretty damn meta but we try and do it constantly in "fantasy" quests.
>>
>>36230092
>>36230095
Those seem actually more viable.
Use the concept of rifles, just substitute with easier magic. We got fire magic already in masses between us and dad.
Some more air magic might be good, maybe we can get a air crytal for that.
Then put it at the bottom of a barrel, shape some rifling into it, and we got a pretty good gun substitute.

We have an excuse of remembering the modern world but, I feel ya.

Rifling is at the present moment out of question. It requires very fine machining, which we at most have a vague knowledge of and no facilities for, and that's not even going into the ammunition. It took several centuries to go from muskets with very little improvement to bolt action rifles, we can't do it in a year.

It's especially ridiculous when existing magic makes guns a pretty meh idea anyways and cramming in the word 'magitech' doesn't really change that non-mages of note are likely going to be strong enough to surpass the damage output of even magical guns with medieval weapons that can benefit from their bullshit physiques, mages of note already have proper magic and mass production doesn't work without industrialization which has massive prerequisites we won't be seeing for a while.

>. It requires very fine machining
It requires fine machining because its hard to do with precision, but we got forge control for that.
And the ammunition won't be a issue if we use air crystals instead of powder, since the rifling getting stuffed by the powder was the largest issue with the early rifle. Rifles were used at the same time as muskets even before the invention of the proper rifle ammunition.
>>
>>36230155
Doesn't mean we should do it. And seriously, 95% of people would have no fucking clue how to construct even a very simple muzzle-loader.

You grumble your way through breakfast.
You don't have to deal with this! You're a giant spider!

And so you plan. And while you jam food into your mouth, and Nin nibbles on some leaves of some sort, you have a scheme so diabolical that even the Gods would turn their eyes. Only a mastermind such as yourself could have conceived something so-

Okay, fine. You're just gonna do the same thing as yesterday, and drag her upstairs till she's worn out. It vaguely worries you that you're a month and a bit old, and already subscribing to your mother's child care journal of 'can't cause trouble if they can't move'.

You feel like you should feel guilty, but really, losing isn't an option. If you keep letting Nin win, one day you're going to wake up in a castle, crown on your brow, your friends at your side, wondering where you went wrong.

The image already doesn't bother you too much. She's insidious!

You shake it off, and scoop up your latest responsibility.

"Eh? Lyra?"
"Training, yes?"

She opens her mouth to protest, but you've already slung her over one shoulder.

You arrive upstairs without any issue- Apparently she knows where to pick her fights. The rapier comes out, a pose is taken, and you pick up a training staff from beside the tree.

"Hmph. If I am to serve the queen, of course I must be skilled enough to stand beside her!"
You let it slide. Winning, winning...

"We can work on dodging, yes? Maybe you can try to use your wings as you move- A little extra speed."
"As you wish, My Lady!"
>>
>>36230331
We just need to create one gun. Just one. we will name it Natasha
>>
>>36230350

And we could also put a lightning crystal on a crossbow stock.
>>
>>36230350
Because it would be great to have a mothketeer, seriously anon.
Because muskets look really cool.
There is no secret to his. Sure we could just point the air crytal on her rapier, but it wouldn't be the same thing.

We need to keep the crossbow thing in mind though, once she is strong enough to use one one-handed, she needs something with range.
>>
>>36230331
Which is still stupid, because its utility will rapidly fall bend in the relevance curve, because the utility of a boomstick is pretty much static whereas everything else is most definitely not and goes to the mythic level.

Either find a combat niche that is carried by Nin's natural talents and skills or just keep her out of combat.
>>
>>36230386
She bows at the waist, letting her wings unfurl behind her, crossing her legs and throwing one arm across her chest.
Ridiculous.

You step into the circle with her, and it begins.

You start with a few easy pokes, aiming at the air around her- You want her to move, not to get hit. She starts with slides, her feet shifting her out of the way. Then she starts to hop, sometimes catching the blow with her blade, letting it move her, spinning away from the attacks as she goes.

Then she throws open her wings.

You speed up your attacks with each passing second, but the little Moth is dancing through the air- Her wings flick, and she is past each blow, landing just long enough to twist her body and ready for the next.

You can see her tiring by inches, but she's still smiling, taking joy in the movement, the flow of combat.

You smile.
You know the feeling.

You switch gears, lashing out with a few slow sweeps, mixing them into tempo as you go. Nin takes wholly to the air, spinning and ducking, laughing with exertion.

You can tell when she finally tires, her feather-light rapier drooping- You twist your spear as she tries to dodge, tapping her lightly on the side- She lets herself fall, smiling all the while.

>I need to step out. There's more to come!
>>
>>36230408
The same is true for our spear? Does that mean we should ditch it?
Its going to take a while, and once she advances we can see how much she can use her new abilities to use it better, or get something new.
>>
>>36230350
Yeah, I think Mothketeer Nin would be neato, but any firearm powerful enough to be effective in a fight would likely generate enough recoil to snap her fragile arms. Lets go with an explosive hand crossbow, we already know how to make those anyhow.
>>
>>36230386
>Lyra thinks she's beating Nin
>All she's doing is proving to her that she's the Queen even more.

How cute.
>>
>>36230401
That is my point.

Replace a musketeer's pistol with a miniature-crossbow with enchanted ammo. There, Done. Mothketeer.
>>
>>36230448
what's with you an enchanted ammo?
Why can't we just stick a crystal in there and zzzap bitches?
>>
>>36230448
But it wouldn't have a musket.
Sure we could be minimalistic and reasonable, but why?

>>36230427
>but any firearm powerful enough to be effective in a fight would likely generate enough recoil to snap her fragile arms
Actually thats my main worry, I would think that using a air crytal or something like that might not cause this problem, since our spear didn't seem to have recoil, Lyra is just a unreliable metric, because she simply might not have noticed.
>>
>>36230477
Why not just make it a dagger or a short blade at that point. A gun has no use in close combat, but a dagger with a crystal can do both.

Or a gunblade or something, I don't know. Just saying, there's literally no point in making a gun that shoots lightning when you can have a spear/sword/dagger/whatever that can shoot lighting and be useful up close.
>>
>>36230532
Anon, do you know how DUMB it looks if you put a stock (crossbow or gun) for aiming stability on a dagger?
>>
>>36230427
A lightening weapon of her own, like our spear, would probably be the best option.

Powerful, no recoil, effective in a wide range of situations.

And it's something we know how to do and know works.

If we can get a new lightening stone, we could equip her sword.

Or, if we find some other element stone first that will work, we can try that.
>>
>>36230532
>A gun has no use in close combat,
The point is that we don't want her to go into close combat if its avoidable.
>>
>>36230426
The spear benefits from the user's super strength.
The boomstick does not.

Any weapon that already exists in this setting benefits from centuries of refinement and synergy with this world's differnet parameters.
The boomstick does not.

Spending exorbitant amounts of time on building Nin a boomstick and then spending even more time on getting upgrading it constantly is retarded when we can just get her an enchanted crossbow or just a wand of lightningbolts.
It only becomes worse when you try to get her a boomstick of signficant enough quality to majorly contribute to fights of the party's level.

We fought stone golems and giant crabs /before/ the whole party evolved and literally kill monster bears for breakfast.

Don't try to cram in boomsticks into this setting for no reason at all.
>>
>>36230569
Anon many anons are basically arguing for wands designed to be fired in combat and not snap at chance 1.
>>
>>36230569
Wands are definitly a thing in this setting too, we just make one with a specific aesthetic because thats what Lyra knows.

I think you take this way too serious anon. The question isn't, "could we make it work?", because we totally could.
The question is, would it be cool?
And thats something everyone has to decide for himself.
>>
>>36230562
Your point is?

Hope for the best case scenario, plan for the worst.
>>
>>36230597
Except all the anons literally using the words "boomstick", "muskets" or "magitech".

If you want Nin to have more ranged capabilities, just get her a magical bow, a magical crossbow or a melee weapon with the appropriate enchantments to double as a ranged weapon and be done with it.
>>
>>36230642
Sure enough, thats what she got the rapier for.
>>
>>36230645
Anon two of those three options are dependant on draw strength, a thing moths wouldn't have, and the third probably isn't very accurate at all at long range.
>>
I hope that REQM learns from letting us talk among ourselves for too long while waiting for him to post. Because I really want to see the mothfia later on.
>>
>>36230615
Let's just make a fucking wand, then, and not in the shape of a gun
>>
>>36230647
So let's add a lightning crystal to the rapier
>>
>>36230673
Why would you not use a thicker stick designed to be held in a stable position?
Even the crossbows have big, meaty, stocks.
>>
>>36230645
The only ones using magitech I've seen say they don't want it. The musket thing is because thats the aesthetic we aimed for because the initial idea was "moth musketier".
We pretty much just worked it out from there.
A bow has the problem of needing both arms and is dependent on her draw strength, a crossbow, a crossbow was already considered, and the third thing isn't very reliable because it only has so many times per day it can fire.

>>36230673
Yeah if you want to be boring about it.
>>
>>36230685

So what you're saying is, time to go visit that stone mine.
>>
>>36230685
The issue with that is mainly that its not very accurate on range, both because lightningbolts aren't, and its hard to aim with a rapier.
>>
Honestly I'd just stick a flamethrower on jin and have her roast things if I wasn't worried she'd catch aflame.
>>
>>36230673
Perhaps we could compromise? How about a bulked up wand that could fire off more spells than your average wand, and then add a grip so Nin can aim it properly.
>>
>>36230771
And by jin I -might- mean nin.
I get confused.
>>
>>36230771

She's flame retardant now. I'd be more concerned with her lighting things on fire when bored. Girl's got an obsession. Still would love to see art of her prior "incidents".
>>
>>36230665
Right and muskets are weapons whose damage output we've already left far in the dust and everything we take seriously is going to ignore.

If you're going to assume muskets can be enchanted to the degree of actually being combat relevant without putting any additional requirements on Nin, there is basically no reason at all you can't do the same for bows and crossbows, except that it'll be way easier to do so for bows and crossbows because the people of this world would have been actually using and enchanting those for who knows how long.

And a gun isn't going to be all that accurate when you are flying and dodging for all you can either, unless you are using homing magic or using Improbable Aiming Skills, in which case you can use the same for bows crossbows and enchanted stuff.
Only, once again, it will be easier to acquire the appropriate enchantments or skills for those things because you don't have to reinvent the wheel.
>>
>>36230794
Thats pretty much the basic idea isn't it?
I think we abaondoned the idea of actual muskets after the first five posts or so.
It would be nothing but a very accurate, user-friendly and sturdy wand.
>>
>>36230842
I think you lost the thread of the argument anon.
We left actual non-magical muskets behind a long time ago.
If we use magic, the difference between a crossbow and a gun is just easier to transport ammunition.
>>
>>36230878
I guess we could use ammunition too, if that helps with the problem of not having a lot of shots per day we would have with the wand.
Then it would be just a easier usable crossbow.
>>
>>36230878
No, if we use magic, the different is that we'd have to invent the musket, would have to upgrade it constantly on our own, be the only producer in the entire world for its ammunition and would have to put whatever ammunition enchamtents we want on tiny metal balls, instead of going with something that accomplishes exactly the same but comes with none of these downsides.

Like a crossbow.
>>
>>36230849
Cool, what if we could load it with interchangeable elemental stones or even multiple stones, so Nin could choose different spells to suit the situation?
>>
What about a modified crossbow that fires darts for direct powder delivery, maybe an air stone incorporated for Ezra velocity?
>>
>>36230927
>that we'd have to invent the musket
No, we would have to shape metal into the form of a musket. Thats not exactly hard. It doesn't actually need all the mechanical components that make it hard, since we use magic for all that.
The enchantment doesn't go on the ammunition, it goes on the weapon, I don't even know where you get that idea from.
Its exactly the same as a crossbow, just with smaller ammunition.

>>36230945
Thats actually a cool idea, we would need to see if we can enchant it so the stones affect the ammunition on their own, otherwise we could just go plain wand route and don't use any ammunition and just use plain magic shots.
>>
>>36230927
Put that would be far, far more difficult to produce and infinitely less reliable. Having Lyra mass produce a weapon like that should wait until we start rebuilding the forest city.
>>
>>36230968
Extra, I have no clue why my phone corrected to Ezra
>>
These anti-gun ideas are all significantly more complicated than putting a bladdy-blap crystal on a rooty point-and-shooty shaped stick.
>>
>>36230996
I'm honestly confused where the idea of the mass production comes from?
No one on suggested doing that. Its just for a single unique weapon for Nin.
Maybe some more for the mothfia, but no one wants to make a industry.
We already learn to make weapons, I don't find it unreasonable that we would take a bit of a extra mile at some point to make something really good.
>>
>>36230991
No, that was the entire opposing point.

That is Magitech, IE using magic to make modern weaponry work, because "muh guns", and is shit.
>>
>>36231064

>>
>>36231064
Thats not what I understand as magitech. For me magitech is producing magical items and weapons with industrial methods.

the entire purpose of it was to give a musket, aka muh guns.

A pistol crossbow with magic is a close enough in-world analog to a flintlock pistol, and a heavier crossbow with magic is a close enough analog to a musket that already exist in the world. If needed you could use magic, or pulleys(ie compound crossbow) to make it considerably easier to draw.

>>36231114
Full plate already exists in-world.
gunpowder/firearms do not as far as we know, so we either have to make gunpowder, or replace it with magic, ie Magi(cal)Tech(nology)

Nah, that lightning wolf was probably using inferiour direct current. Our tesla wolf would be powered by an alternating current, which automatically makes it stronger and much more awesome.

Ok people, ~30 posts till auto sage, time to go into survival mode. Minimal posting so the spider has a thread to come back to.

I don't really know what you mean with that?

We are still a bit away from bumb limit, but if you have a topic you would like to talk about, feel free, in the worst case EQM can always make a second part.

The moth spends a leisurely few minutes gulping down water, swapping the shield back and forth with you. Sheszka interrupts for a sip, draining the whole thing in one go before wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

With people mostly satiated and pleased with themselves you pack up for a quick jaunt into town- Sheszka at your side, a Nin-sized snoring bundle on your back and a spear in your hand.

Before you go, though...

There is one thing you want to set into motion.

Your mother has set up shop next to Dad and Sara, sharpening one of her absurd array of weapons. And this works just fine for you.

"Mom? Dad?"
Both turn at your voice, looking up from their work as you skitter up to them.
"Yes, dearheart?"

"Ah- I am going into town, yes? Just for a short while, to kidnap Jinni."
Your Dad glances from you to your Mom, who has raised one eyebrow as she listens.
"You are a big girl, yes? If you want to go to town in the daylight, that is fine."

"Mhm-"
"You do understand that taking Jin out with you and kidnapping her are very different things, yes?"
"Well, yes. But usually, I just open the door, pick her up and leave."

Your mother laughs, shaking her head.
"And what does Lia think, little one?"
"Thank gods, she was driving me mad?"
"Get going, bratling."

"Yes, yes! Could you meet me in the ruins meadows? Around noon or so, yes? And bring Dad!"
"What? What are you-"
>>
>>36234038

You're already over the side of the nest, giggling all the way to the forest floor. Sheszka matches your pace, sliding down the ladder with practised ease, landing lightly and skipping next to you. You ruffle her hair with a smile.
"Let's go, yes? You can tell me all about your dream."

She breaks into a wide smile, and keeps her pace down to match yours, prancing through the woods at your side.

Yes, prancing. Nobody 'walks' that happily. Maybe skipping.
No, prancing is a solid word. It works.

"-And then the voice said I was blessed, yes!"
You nod encouragingly as she speaks. It's the most words you've got out of her all at once... ever, really. She waves her hands as she goes, gesturing wildly.

"So, do you know what you can do, yet?"
She whips her head side to side, hair flying with each turn, and you laugh.
"Why don't you try then, yes? Show me how strong you are!"

Her face lights up with your order and she springs to atention, back straightening as she faces you.
"Yes, Alpha!"

She drops to all fours, dashing to the front of your group- and then she halts, mouth open. You watch her with your head tilted one way as she starts to hack like she's coughing up a furball-

And then the air ignites, and she lets loose a blast of fire, the space around her lighting up with the blaze.
>>
>>36234061
And the glow hasn't even begun to die as she sucks in another breath- This time it's a blizzard, her breath leaving a glaze of frost over everything it touches, the little ferns littering the ground looking like crystals in the sunlight.

She spins in place, throwing her arms out as she launches herself back to her feet.
"See! I have Alpha's power, and my own! Yes!"
Her tail whips back and forth, blurring behind her as she stands proud.

Your arms slip beneath hers, and you lift the little wolf easily into firm hug- One she returns with enough gusto that you can actually feel it. She really is getting your strength.

You pull her to your chest, resting your head atop hers, letting you whisper right into her ears.
"Well done, yes? I am proud to call you my pack, Sheszka."

She whines in your arms, squeezing tighter as her tail accelerates further still, slapping herself and filling the air with the noise.
"Lyra. Lyra Lyra Lyra. Thank you."

You keep her in your arms as you start to move, leaving the ruins behind for the broken train before she release her grip, dropping back beside you. She trots along beside you, practically glowing with unsuppressed happiness.

"Can you do anything with the stones? Or just fire and ice so far?"
She flicks one ear as she thinks it over.

"I can... feel the ground? I do not think I can move it."
She seems a little disappointed at that, and you reach out, scratching at her ears, bring the smile back to her face.
"Do not be worrying, yes? You are strong, Sheszka."

She grins back at you as you reach the hill, walking the last bit of distance to the village gates.

You can see Lann and the older man sitting guard, relaxing in the morning sunshine.

The big problem is that we are about to embark into the tomb of the old city, a place destroyed by humans. She's only about a half, but that might cause some real problems with oaths and such. Above all, it would be rude to invite her to something in which she might not be able to have full inclusion. Besides, it would be funnier if she got to meet all of our siblings, mom, and elf dad in an otherwise "normal" environment (read: a giant hollowed out tree covered in spider webs in the middle of the murder wilds)
>>
>>36234286

REQM, are you sure this thread is going to weather the rest of the evening? We're riding page six after a little over half an hour post-bump limit.
>>
>>36234400
Yeah, I fear Seranthis might not be as welcoming as we would wish.
And even then, it was supposed to be a gift for our mother, one way or the other Lann would be kind of left out.
>>
>>36234508
So, are we actually delving deep into the ruins? I was under the assumption we were just showing off our handiwork.
>>
>>36234508

Let's just invite her to the waterfall some time later, that's where we seem to take everyone to the forest to show off.
>>
>>36234535
That was the idea, going down there with mom to find seranthis.
>>
>>36234538
Thats probably a good idea. Its a nice place if its not overrun by lizardmen, and we wanted to bring Nin there anyway.
>>
>>36234488
we crossed bump limit at ~9pm.

It takes 3 hours for a bump limit thread to drop off.

so this thread is good till midnight, or 11:30pm at the least.
>>
>>36234535

I want to try to find Seranthis, though I realize he may not be nearby the fairly up-top area of the ruins. Still, I know it would mean a lot to mom to see him and I know it would mean a lot to Seranthis to have anyone from the world above come to visit, especially Lyra and her new posse.

I kind of don't want to drag our new friend into dark underground ruins on her first trip to the forest.
We should probably show her something nice first.
Like the waterfall and our nest.
>>
>>36234691
Yeah, maybe show her the topside ruins or the single structure we excavated, but maybe not the heart of the city, at least not on our first playdate.
>>
>>36234754
Well, we get there on the way anyway when we bring her to our nest. And I don't want to end up having her to stay alone in the ruins while we go down.
>>
>>36234754
We probably shouldn't show her the ruins either, at least not on the first outing. Dad is ok because he's dad, but we really don't want to accidentally make her break the treaty, at least not until we know it's OK.

The waterfall should be fine though.
>>
>>36234933
We need to ask if its okay to bring her into the forest at all, might as well ask Lia.
>>
I've been thinking.... We are going to travel the world with our group for some time... Sara is likely going to tag along with Dad when he and Mom go Dungeon Diving and on Archeological digs... Our Brothers are liable to travel the lands, hunting new creatures... Aria is likely to do various jobs for the guild, driven by her competition with us, eventually ending up as part of an adventuring party, possibly gaining a bit of prestige with them... And Elle, she is either going to watch the house, probably moving near to, or in to, the town and make her living weaving, possibly generating her own renown as a seamstress, probably continuing her own research into textiles...

We will be the most known Arachne family in the world... eventually...

You wave as you approach, and Lann raises a hand, though she makes no attempt to get up.
"Lyra! Greetings, and welcome to Oakring. What business do you have with us today?"

You stop and stare, raising an eyebrow.

The old man is already starting to smile.
"Alright, one Lyra, uh. Dunno your last name."
"Me neither, yes. I need to remember to ask my father about that."

"Right, sure. And what are you doing here in out fine village today?"
"Perpetuating a planned kidnapping against its residents, yes."

well I think Sara would mostly leave to find new forms of magic, test out her own forms of magic, and just to better improve her magic over all. Wether that's from tagging alone with mom and dad, us, or any of our siblings is up in the air. I'd be amazed if our brothers actually left the woods. I mean they like hunting yes but I don't think they really care about the challenge of the hunt as long as they're hunting and the woods have lots of things for them to hunt. Aria is probably pretty spot on with what you said since she wants to be like mom and if she is competing against us she'll probably find her own group or maybe even go at it by herself. Might join with us if we ask though. As for Elle, yeah once she get's big enough to leave the nest and needs to take care of herself I can see her moving into to and trading her dresses for food so she can keep on being lazy.

I was planning on leaving her an open invitation to be settled in a few days' time. That gives us time to go back, speak with mom, and for Lann to shift around her own schedule. For instance, today would have been a terrible day for her to skip off and mess around with spiders.

You need to pick up the pace if you want to reach the ruins in time. That means cutting short any attempts by Nin to sell the villagers on 'submitting to your rule' or 'every belly shall be full while the spider queen reigns'.

It has nothing to do with the blush flushing your cheeks. That's just exertion. Or the heat.
It's nothing.

You speed through the village, and Nin extricates herself from the eye socket to sit on the edges, watching the buildings with wide eyes, her hair trailing behind her as you move.

"Look at all this- Wooden houses! And there are so many!"
"There is a smith, and a trader, an Inn, and the guild- Hmm. You would probably like candy, yes."
"Candy?"
"It is made of sugar, yes?"
"I still don't know what that is."
"Behave, and you might just find out."

"I am always behaved."
"I will just pretend you said something that made sense, yes? This is Jin's house."
"She has a house?"
"There is a nest above. The cabin is her father's, yes?"

"Her father has a cabin?"
"Ah. Her father is human, yes. A lumberjack- uh, he cuts down trees, for wood."
She's quiet a moment as you advance on the door.

"There is so much I don't know, Lyra."
"The world is a great deal wider than this, yes? We can see it together, piece by piece."
The little moth shifts in her seat, moving up your shell till she sits at the top, leaning into you. She throws a delicate arm around you, giving you a little hug. You lean your head back gently, feeling your hair brushing her cheek.

She withdraws, and you put your hand to the doorhandle.

Go time.

You pull it open after a single knock, and the whole family looks up from their meal as a giant spider pushes her way through the door.
"Good morning, yes? I need this."
>>

It's just that the gianter we get, the bigger a problem it becomes.

Jin manages to snag a piece of meat from the table while you hoist her into position behind you.
"I will bring her back later, yes? Good day!"
Jareth just starts laughing, and you back out the door while Lia shakes her head slowly.

You can hear her yell as you turn, the door closing behind you.
"She is your responsibility, then! Bring her back clean, please!"

You turn to look at Jin, and find Nin watching the harpy choke back her slab of breakfast, making a mess of her white feathers.
You dab at her face with a napkin, for all it's worth. (It isn't worth much.)
"Lyrnnma wrhrm thsmmsm"

"Swallow first, yes."
The bird chokes a little as she forces the whole piece back at once, turning to look at the curious moth.
"Who is this, yes?"

"Ah. Jin, This is Nin. Nin, This is Jin."
They stare each other down for a quiet moment.
"You have a good name."
"You too, yes."

You roll your eyes, and set a path for the ruins. (With a short stop with an exasperated Lann. You're getting a little worried about the old guy, though.)

___________________________________________

You've hit the ruins, just in time, too.

There are problems though.
Namely, the two monsters behind you.

"-And if she is ruling, then everything is better!"
"Lyra is strong, yes. And a Queen is in charge?"
"Of everyone! And we'll have a city, and the forest and everything-"

You do not need to be ganged up on. One is bad enough.
>>
>>36236146
Your mother and father are sitting in the meadow, chatting quietly, leaning against each other in the shade.
You flag them down as you approach, ridiculous posse in tow.

"Are you ready for your surprise, yes?"
Your mother sighs.
"Lyra, you are a not even a year old, and somehow the word surprise calls to mind an image of the forest in flames, yes?"
"It is only my hands, though. I would have to touch every tree-"
"Lyra."

You laugh, and gesture for them to follow.

Dad trails along behind Mom as you lead them through the ruins, stepping lightly over rubble as you go.

Mom stops, her face transforming into shock, and Dad stares at the monolithic structure before him.
"I fixed it, yes?"

The ruins lie open before you...

Lyra would be the tomboy guitarist that has to fight off fan girls, Sheszka would be on drums and care about nothing else in life aside from rocking out and having fun, Jin and Nin would be the super sparkly singers surrounded with glittering moth dust and stars.

I'm surprised Sheszka hasn't support Nin by saying that her Alpha has the strongest pack, so will be perfect Queen.

Ice powers come from moon touched- Arctic wolf, despite it's name, is Just a matter of colouration.

Which she got to match Jin, tho other member of Lyra's 'pack'

Moon touched comes from the howling, the transformation, and the fact that she spends a lot of time awake at night.

I wonder if anyone has noticed that Lyra is taking puberty in stride and is the only one embarrassed whenever her parents are obviously going to have sex, while the other kids are clueless.
>>
>>36237029

Lyra is marching around in a second evolution body at less than a month old. She is unnaturally intelligent and has proven adept at everything she has yet tried her hand at. I think that the parents have a lot more to take notice of then who seems to "get it" when they are looking for alone time.
>>
>>36237029

Also, Mom totally doesn't know. Otherwise we'd be left in a crater every time we tried to get her to "explain" puberty to her.
