You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

Well, it looks like things concerning Karel and Ariane have been dealt with successfully! Ariane's going to tell Sir Gregory after the two of you leave, but you're pretty sure that things will go over well.

It was still pretty stressful though, so now you and Karel are headed over to Emilio to see what he's up to.

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Much larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are also that much more dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they still don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

"Ugh..." Karel starts to drag her feet as the two of you reach the mansion's front door.
"Karel, you alright?" you turn to her.
"I'm fine," she mumbles. "Just fucking exhausted, that's all."
"Uh, you want to sit down for a little while?" you ask. "There's a chair right over there, and-"
"I can handle it," she replies as she walks past you and opens up the door. "Even over here, I can't just be sitting down on the job."
"If you say so..."

Concerned for your friend, you stick close to her as the two of you walk outside and over to where you left Sir Gregory and the others. If Karel happens to fall over or anything of that sort, you'll be right there to catch her.

Right off, you spot Elena running in the lawn with her cape trailing after her. It looks like she's chasing after someone... Emilio?

"I'm gonna getcha!!" Elena shouts happily as she chases after her brother.
"C'mon, cut it out!" Emilio groans as he does his best to get away from her. "Why don't you go bother Bernard or Guillaume or Reya!?"
"'Cuz I don't get to play with you like ever since we came here..." Elena replies, "AND I wanna see if I can run faster than you now!"
"Uncle Gregory, could you please help me out here!?"

But instead of helping, Sir Gregory merely stands on the sidelines while laughing himself hoarse. It's kind of jarring to see him enjoying himself this much when you consider his usual gloomy disposition.

"Hm," you cross your arms. "Karel, it looks like some incredibly well-dressed swordsman is attacking Emilio."

Karel turns to you with an incredulous look on her face before sighing and turning back to watch Emilio get harassed by his sister.

"Yeah, looks like it," she nods.
"You're his bodyguard, don't you think that you ought to step in?" you ask.
"Sibling quarrels are outside my job description," she replies. "But you're about to become their brother-in-law so maybe you could step in yourself."

You left yourself wide open for that one.

Though he seems to be distressed by the fact that he has to run at all, Emilio's maintaining a pretty decent distance between himself and Elena without too much effort on his part. It looks like that stuff you heard about him being a fast runner was true...

"Elena, cut it out!" Emilio shouts back as he continues to run from the little girl.
"No way!" Elena laughs. "I'm gonna getchaaaaa!!!"
"Really, this isn't fu-"

Emilio's foot catches a slight bump in the ground, sending him stumbling forward. He's somehow able to catch himself before he ends up falling over, but doing so gives Elena just the time she needs to close the distance between her elder brother and herself.

"Bwahahaha!!!!" Elena laughs as she LEAPS onto the young Prince's back and sends him stumbling forwards once more. "I told you that I'd catch you!"
"C'mon, get off!" Emilio groans. "You're heavy!"

Also, remember Andreas and Melanie having a nice, polite, friendly conversation? That was nice, they'd make nice friends.
>>
While it's definitely amusing to watch Elena torment her brother, you can't help but feel bad for the guy. As such, you decide to step in before things get worse for him.

"Oookay, that's enough of that," you say as you walk over and casually pluck Elena off of Emilio's back.
"Th... thanks, Reinhold," Emilio sighs.
"Hey, lemme go!" Elena shouts as she flails about. But sadly for her, nearly a decade of sword practice has developed your grip into something akin to a vice. No matter how hard she tries, she can't break free.
"Sorry, but I think you ought to lay off your brother for now," you say as you lift her as high as you can.

And now that cape is hitting you in the face. It doesn't hurt or anything, but it -is- kind of annoying.

"Eh, I don't think so," you say, shaking you head.

And then you flip her around in your arms and place her on your shoulder.

"I hereby sentence you to a shoulder ride back into the house, Elena," you say.
"Ehehe..." Elena giggles. "You're the best, Reinhold!"
"Ahem."

You turn to see who so noisily cleared their throat (while also taking care not to drop Elena, of course), only to find Sir Gregory glaring at you.

"You know," Sir Gregory says, "I don't really appreciate you trying to steal my place."
"Uh..." you freeze in place.

"Wouldn't dream of it," you reply with a nervous smile.
"Good," Sir Gregory nods. "Now let's go inside before it gets dark."
"Finally," Emilio sighs.

And so, the four of you make your way back inside, with Elena riding on your shoulder until you reach the doorway. Though it's definitely large enough to clear the extra bit of height that Elena adds, you still don't feel comfortable in doing so.

Chalk it up to a life spent in peasant houses with low-hanging doorframes.

It's kinda hard juggling between so many people to give them some of our time, no wonder some get shafted.

So Luciana and Karel get top priority, due to respectively being our gf and in deep shit.

>>36238483
Find something girly she'd enjoy. Or just come to her for advice more.

Following the same logic, we need to find something Sylvie'd enjoy to do with us that isn't magic, and a way to cheer Marianne up that doesn't involve cakes.
>>
>>36238483
What's it gonna fuck up?
She doesn't want us to feed her grapes in the back of a gondola (well, she might but she's realistic), she wants us to come to her when we need a girl's perspective on shit. Like, usually we'll ask Melanie or Sylvie on shit Luci or Mari would like and now she thinks we're going to Ariane before her for tips on our relationship with Luci, she just wants us to see her as a girl who's there when we need girl help.

As fun as this little interlude was, you do feel kind of guilty about sticking Luciana with the responsibility of making dinner for everyone.

"Oh," Emilio nods. "Well, uh... tell her that I'm looking forward to seeing if she really can cook."

"Me and my big mouth," Luciana grumbles as she races across the kitchen while holding a large pot of water. "Shouldn't have asked Aunt Ariane about anything until I cleared it with Reinhold first and now here I am stuck cooking dinner for everyone," she grumbles. "didn't even prepare..."

You see at least three different pots on the stove cooking and the oven seems to be lit as well... and Luciana's running around checking on everything that's cooking in between chopping up vegetables and measuring flour?

And she's got an apron over her dress as she does all of this and suddenly you find yourself grinning like a total creeper.

For the first part of the story we had a rival type named Monique Gilbeault, but he was more of an obnoxious hater than any real threat. Then we went to a party in the foreign country of Marconnetti (Luciana's), he lost his marbles and provoked us to a duel that he won on very shaky grounds by virtue of pulling a legendary magic sword out of his ass. Luciana's father saw an opportunity and fetched him for himself by offerring him knighthood, but virtually everyone else in-story thought "good riddance". This was the cause of much butthurt among the players.

We also have a shady plot aiming to kidnap Luciana and her younger siblings. Ninjas have been spotted and they launched an assault during our final day visiting Marconnetti. Some guy in a mask is leading them.

But mostly our worse enemy is ourselves and our questionable decisions. This is mostly a Slice of Life quest.

Sylvie is stronk as fuck and she has huge magical reserves (among other huge things).

Luciana is more experienced but she can't compete in terms of raw power.
>>
>>36239358
That's why we'd use the time travel magic to woo her before she fell for Gregory.
>>
>>36239328
She wasn't allowed to train in magic until she was deemed proficient in hand-to-hand fighting by Sir Vincent, the guy who beat up the archmage of the kingdom with his bare hands and punched so hard doing so he created a lake. And she's really good at magic.

Luci doesn't know how to fight without magic and most of her spells seem to be big flashy stuff with long incantations, which means that she needs a swordsman to tank for her or else she'll just get cut in half before she can finish casting her good shit.
>>

After a while, the guilt overcomes you and you barge into the kitchen.

"Reinhold!?" Luciana stares at you. "Don't scare me like that, especially not in here with all these knives and open flames!"
"Uh, sorry," you say, smiling nervously.
"So what did you come in here for?" she asks. "As you can see, I'm doing exactly what I said I would so if you could maybe get out of here already..." she says as she moves to push you out of the kitchen.
"You need a hand?" you ask.

Luciana stares at you as if you just slapped her.

"Reinhold, -you-," Luciana points at you, "are the one who made the condition that I had to cook tonight's dinner all on my own! What, did you think that I wouldn't be able to manage it?"

>Whoops, my bad. Back to being Worst QM with me.
What the hell is with that exclusivity? Why not improve on what people aren't satisfied with so that more people will be drawn to your quest because of its merits?

Your character interactions, world, and magic are great, you just need compelling things for an expert swordsman with some magic ability whose job description is "Guards the Princess from Danger" to do that aren't cookouts or dates. Like more duels, carriage chases, or surprise pirates. People actually like having some suspense that isn't "Oh boy, I wonder how she's gonna react when I do THIS thing?"

PGQ is very much cookie cutter in some ways. It's part of the charm.

But other QMs do with more action and that's fine too.

Joker Quest is pretty rad but it's a chore to read for someone like me who gets headaches trying to picture the action while I'm deciphering a foreign language. The somewhat detailed writing style doesn't help either.

"And now you're going to have to live with that guilt since this is a matter of pride for me," Luciana replies.
"Well then can I at least give you some moral support?" you ask.
"Fine, just stay out of the way," Luciana mumbles.

Turning her back to you, Luciana hurries over to the stove to check on whatever it is that she had cooking before returning to the counter and resuming her chopping of vegetables.

"Mind if I ask what you're cooking?" you ask.
"Spaghetti," Luciana replies. Since it's easy to make and you completely sprung this on me."
"Sorry again," you mumble. "It smells good."
"I would certainly hope so."

Since talking to her is clearly getting on her nerves, you opt to step out of the way while you watch Luciana work. Though she's definitely doing all of this at a hectic pace, it definitely seems like she has a clear handle on what she's doing.

His parents were travelling for whatever reason and ended up having to make a stop at Cateno. The father got shanked and died since Cateno is a shithole, and the mother ended up going into labor from the stress of losing her husband. Desperate (and also dying because giving birth on your own in a filthy town messed her up), she dumped her baby off at a building that looked like it saw some business (and thus would be likely to have food to take care of him). The end.

It seriously was not important to this story at all.

No, that's Fire. It's a place that I haven't been bothered to name and has no relevance in Princess Guard whatsoever.

After finding a nice spot to stand in the corner, you...

"...what are you doing?" Luciana asks.
"Sketching," you reply.
"Can't you do that somewhere else?" she sighs. "The sound of you scratching your pencil against the paper is very distracting."
"That'd be kind of hard," you shrug, "since I'm drawing you."
"Wha..." she snatches the sketchbook out of your hands.

As Luciana looks over the half-finished drawing that you were just working on, her face grows redder and redder...

"This is..." Luciana mumbles.
"You look really cute in that apron so I decided to draw you," you say, shrugging. "What's wrong with that?"
"Nnnnn..."

Too embarrassed to even form coherent words, Luciana simply forces the sketchbook back into your arms and then pushes you out of the kitchen.

Rana and/or Reya. Haven't really spoken much to them lately.
>>
>>36239890
Reinhold is white, I doubt people in Saperavi are, since it's a land in the East and shit.

No. Complete sketch from memory instead.

If I recall the explanation correctly, elemental subtypes (like Metal) are luck of the draw, so his parents were most likely just Earth.

>>
Arch, how rare are Light and Dark elements compared to subtypes?
>>
>>36240038
Is it just me or are we doing doing a pretty good job keeping up with the supposed teasemistress?
>>
>>36240057
They're the rarest, Darkness moreso.
>>
>>36240057
Well, there's more light out there than there is matter, and around the same amount of darkness as there is light, so it's probably a common trait.
>>
>>36240060
Luci is but a shadow compared to the mastery of teasing that Ariane possesses. We've only cleared the midboss on our way to becoming the Teasemaster.
>>
>>36240050
Seconding
>>
>>36240057
If I remember correctly...

10% chance of having a sub-type (ice/metal) in addition to your regular type (water/earth)

1% chance of being light element
0.1% chance of being dark element
>>
>>36240078
scientifically, yes. Magically, no, because it's magic, I ain't gotta explain SHIT.
Light and Dark are the rarest, with dark being rarer.
>>
Arc, has Reinhold been officially adopted yet?

Yes

Sorry guys, going to have to end this thread here. Stupid internal clock...
Tonight's thread was fun though, and I appreciate all the discussion. It makes running these things seem more worth it.

The nexrt thread will be on Tuesday night, with a return to False Dendrite.

Pretty sure Light, Dark, and Wind do not have sub-types.

The only ones I know are:
Water = Ice
Earth = Metal
Fire = Lightning

Last thread, Ariane went to bother Luci while we went to check on Emilio.

Did the Ariane visit significantly contribute to Luci being super flustered just now? What did Ara Ara tease her about?
>>

Lightning isn't a subtype, I think.
>>

I was mostly interested in Darkness/Light subtypes since I found nothing about them in the archive but if they don't have any subtype then I guess that answers my question

Some things are correct and others aren't/

>Last thread, Ariane went to bother Luci while we went to check on Emilio.

>Did the Ariane visit significantly contribute to Luci being super flustered just now? What did Ara Ara tease her about?
Ariane's teasing was related to the cover story that she gave to Nicolette and Melanie. "I wonder when he's finally going to propose, he was -this- close to telling me that he's in love with you," that kind of thing.

And now I sleep. Thanks for playing!
