/tg/ - Traditional Games

Welcome to the XXXV installment of "Disney Villains Victorious."

Disney Villains Victorious is a new /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.

So, I had to remove the split-strike system from the 1d4chan page, again. Who's doing this shit? Can we ban them? We decided in thread seven not to do this, just because you put up a poll when not many people was on doesn't mean you get to change core game mechanics.
>>
>>36277698

I can't say Nob. I haven't worked much with the Wiki myself.
>>
I'll be watching this thread, sounds like an interesting setting.

I have a mechanical question. Ride'm let's you ride anything that can support your weight, right? And if you are, say, a Small monkey, a player or a Mook can support your weight, so... do you see where I'm going here?
>>
>(This isn't the split strike system, dammit. This is an actual part of established canon for healing.)

Fuck off with your shit decision, whoever you are. This isn't a matter of you getting to poll ten people, this is a core, CORE game mechanic that the rest of the system is based around! We'd need to change both the sensible and smart guy heavily and rework the skill system to make this possible! And all it does is add needless complexity because 'muh verisimilitude'!

Aanyway. Who's up to see some Fae and Beast species ideas cranked out?

Yes, that's the idea. It's Disney as fuck and hilarious.

Genies:
Genie
Size Medium (But usually larger than equivalent humans)
Traits:
Genie magicks!: Manipulate 1kg of living matter as you see fit. This requires one minute to actually operate, and has no offensive capabilities. This translates to a +2 bonus to Craft if you use it for anything other than comedic relief.
Attribute Bonuses: +2 Robustness.

Thoughts? Genie Magic is hard to balance, but I figured it'd be best to go for something comedic. Completely open to suggestions on this one.
>>
>>36277767
Fae characters would be cool, but could get real OP real fast, so we should be careful. We should have Tinkerbell-style Fairies, who are tiny, and get flight and Charm bonuses.

Make sure you specify Freed Genie
>>
>>36277852

I most definitely am onboard for fairies.
>>
>>36277852

Pixies:
Size: Tiny
Traits:
Flight: Oh my god! You can fly! For one minute per will point purchased, anyway. You can sort of hover about five feet off the ground otherwise, but true flight is too hard with your disconnect from Wonderland.
Pixie Dust: You suffer no penalties to Robustness due to your size! Incredible!
Attribute Bonuses: +2 to Charm

Whipped out over two minutes. Flight power stolen from Elephants.
>>
>>36277800
Couple of those are in the catalogue already.
>Rourke/Radcliffe conversation
>Lots of bits and pieces with Mulan
>One story with Grimhilde (Immortal Hopes)
>A little bit with Ursula (Neutral Ground/Breaking the Stalemate)

But I can pick one of the other ones to write about later tonight.
>>

We have a lot of namefags because it's a game creation thread. The shipping and shit only happens in short bursts whenever someone brings it up before we get back to bussiness.

We've written 55,000+words of fluff and a fully functional system that we've run two playtests on to balance so far and are in the process of refining it to Beta. In a week or so.

Quite a lot, actually.

>>
>>36277813
How 'bout....

Each genie can grant 3 wishes, minor reality changes, lest they alert the king or queen of their zone, or possibly, neighboring zones, which will result in a mad hunt that throws the difficulty curve through the window and into a volcano.

There's no way to use wordplay and make a wish that breaks the three big rules. And they cannot ask for something they do not know about "I wish for the powersource of X king to be here"--"Can't do, I don't know where or what it is.". The genie can hardy be spy if it has a restriction of how far can he leave his "home". If you assume that The Genie was a particularly powerful one, hence being on the cave of wonders, a common genie would be weaker, or more manageable as a character.

1.-No forced love (can extend into free will)
2.-No killing (can extend into "no: 'just barely on the verge of death' ")
3.-No Rising the dead, (even as friendly zombies)
>>
>>36278384
You know the PDF is gonna be great when we have three separate sample adventures before we even start writing it.
>>
>>36278384
Shit, hit enter before I actually got to the point. So, it'd be nice to have a song attached to him in case the testing GM really wants to get into the swing of things.

>>36278395
That's not great for player character Genies, who are all Freed, but that's a fantastic idea for any Genies found. I'll put it in the 'ideas for magical items' section.

>>36278408
Possibly more. I'm not sure how many ideas i'll have, so we can pick from the best of them.
>>
So every time Japan is brought up, we talking about Princess Mononoke? Because I'm cool writing about that. Maybe like the boars won due to Cherno magic but are now demons consumed by hate, refusing to recognize the Spirit if the Forest because he did not protect them and lording over the other animals. Except wolves who they hate and either kill or cast out. Humans run away to china and join Shan Yu. Ashitaka and Monoke are unknown to the general population right now.

I would have to write about it tomorrow or Sat, I'm moving tomorrow.

That is if any of you want that.
>>
>>36278324
Some namefag was mentioning weselton. That could be fun. Or china. Maybe a Rescuer saving a young girl in the shadow lands or Charlotte dealing with "Naveen"
>>
For a species:
Chimera: Medium sized product of Ysma's experiments, gets weird combinations of traits, (maybe randomly roll for animal type), like a goat trait, a mouse trait, and two human traits. Just a silly race. (We'd need to do something to keep this from just being a min-maxer's wet dream though)
>>
>>36278442

Are you implying that Japan is just Disney Ghibli?
>>
>>36278516
It's a thought, and would make for a good species, but I'm not sure how we could avoid letting people turn it into a minmax thing, though, or actually explain some of the traits like Mice's Beyond Notice or whatever I called it, or a Stegosaurus' Spiked Tail.
>>
>>36278530
Ghibli movies are distributed by Disney in the United States, at least. Still, I think we decided against Princess Mononoke, as much as I like the movie.

>>36278516
On second thought; I'll see what I can do about creating a few example Chimeras.
>>
>>36278516
Chimera:
I don't like randomly rolling for character creation, but you could do it if you wanted. You get one trait from the animal category you've chosen, listed below.

Big Cats: Low To The Ground: +2 to Stealth
Bears: Bear Necessities: +2 on Endure, +3 Travel.
Primates: Monkeyin' Around: +2 to Deceit
Canines: Loyalty- +2 on attack rolls against an enemy that has Struck an ally.
Crocodilia: All-Natural Armor- +2 to Prevent Harm, but cannot wear Armor.
Small Cats: Tree Climber: +3 to Acrobatics(Athletics?) rolls involving climbing.
Elephants: An Elephant Never Forgets: +2 to all Science, Occult, Academia, or Insight rolls to remember something that you know.
Insects: Flight: Whether an incredible jump or actual wings, you possess the ability to stay airborne pretty much indefinitely.
Birds: Shiny!: +3 on Legerdemain when Stealing something shiny. (It's hidden in your beak.)
Horses: Run Like The Wind: +20 Meters of movement speed.
Snakes: Cold Blooded: +2 to Stealth and +2 to avoid Fear.
Carnosaur: Lizard King: +3 to Social Rolls against Lizards and other cold-blooded landdwellers.
Mice: Deft Paws: 1 rank in Mechanics.
Stegosaurid: -Too stubborn to hurt: +2 to Endure checks, but -10 meters of land speed.
Ceratopsid: -Charge!: +2 on Brawl rolls on a charge.

Should we cause Size to alter depending on your species, up or down a Size? Thoughts on these?
>>
Suitably creepy, metaphorical, and jazzy.

Sign to the tune of “Louder than words” – Tick tick boom!
NO ONE
Why do we play with fire?
What makes you run your fingers through the flame?
Why do you leave our hand on the stove-
When you know all that you’ll receive is pain?

And why, do you refuse to hand a light
When the streets are dangerous?
After just one more accident
And still the truth’s not heard for the rest of us

Cages or wings?
Which do you prefer?
Ask my birds.

Fear or love, baby?
Don’t say the answer
Actions speak louder than words.

Why should you try to be your best
When the mediocre are the ones who gain
I see the whole town nod their heads

When they know

That I’m as wrong as rain.

Why bother blazing a trail
When the well-worn path is safe and
So inviting?
How does it feel when you travel and you
See the dismay-
The hundreds fighting?

Cages or wings?
Which do you prefer?
Ask my birds.
Cages or wings?
Fear or love, baby?
Don’t say the answer
Actions speak louder than words.
(Louder than, louder than)

I wonder what it takes
To wake a generation

If you can ever make
A caged bird fly

But I know you won’t wake up
Or shake up MY nation
As you eat the dust of my world
Wondering why
Why?

What makes you stay on course
When you know, down deep
You’ll never ‘make it right’

Why would you rather
Pull yourselves through hell
And sleep alone at night?

Why don’t you follow leaders even when they never lead?
Thinking catastrophe can start a revolution

So if you’re so free, tell me why
Why don’t you tell me why
I can see you bleed?

Cages or wings?
Which do you prefer?
Ask my birds
Cages or wings?
Ah,
Fear or love, baby?
Don’t say the answer.
Actions speak louder than
Louder than, louder than
Louder than, kouder than
Cages or wings?
Which do you prefer?
Ask my birds
Ah,
Fear or love, baby?
Don’t say the answer
Actions speak louder than
Say they speak louder than
A thousand actions speaking louder than your words
>>
>>36278720
I say allow up to 2 traits from the list, but also make yourself take some social penalties. Remember, you are a goofy-looking goat/moose/snake-person and you risk being attacked in the street for it in less accepting areas. I just like the idea of a player being a frog-moose-man. Size changes are fine
>>
>>36278740
I like it. Suitably spooky and metaphorical. Into the design doc it goes!

>>36278784
2 traits makes you the same as a Beast; most only have two unique traits to begin with other than Natural Weapons.
>>
>>36278806
>2 traits makes you the same as a Beast
That kinda has me thinking of 2 chimera options, a man/beast thing, or a beast hybrid with no man traits
>>
>>36278844
>beast hybrid
Well, THAT is significantly more interesting. Perhaps we could let people pair up two Chimera types to make a combination abomination? For example, a Carnosaur/Mouse would be Medium Sized, but gain Lizard King and a rank in Mechanics. Or, a Bear/Big Cat hybrid for the most terrifying thing to see running at you in a dark alley.
>>
>>36278806
You can be a beast. You get either 2 mixed weird traits and one normal one or the other way around. You're either a frog-man or a frog-anteater
>>
>>36278895
I don't think you would average out the sizes for a CarnoMouse. I think it would either be a mouse that was mutated into a dinosaur, which would make it small, but more lizardlike, or a dinosaur which was mutated into a mouse, which would be large and more mousy. Essentially, you can go up or down just one size level from your original form, you don't average them.
>>
So i haven't read through all of you guys' documentation yet, but I'm not seeing any reference to Robin Hood.
This is just not oo de lally.
>>
>>36278961
Okay. How would we decide what the base species is? Also, do we do halfsies or thirdsies for Chimera? That is, you can have a Dino-man or a Dino-mouse, or a dino-horse-man?

>>36278991
spoopy skary skellingtons got him.

At least, thats what I think the idea is. If you have an idea, go for it! I'd love to see fluff on him.
>>
>>36278999
I think halfsies is plenty. You pick the base animal in your backstory.
>>
Since the setting was changed to Washington, DC, and a Drive/Mechanic character was recommended, I couldn't resist making a street rat to help the party out.
Sadly, I couldn't find any character art, but eh.

Name: Raymond Rivers
Role: Smart Guy
Country of Origin: United States - Imperial Republic of Atlantis
Size: Medium
Species: Human

---Attributes---
Robustness: 6/12
Agility: 10/12
Intelligence: 10/12
Sensibility: 8/12
Charm: 8/12
Will: 4/4
Strikes: 3/3

---Skills---
Acrobatics - 3
Mechanics - 4
Drive - 5
Insight - 3
Legardemain - 3
Stealth - 3
Ranged - 3
Prevent Harm - 3

---Traits---

-Nimble Trait
You gain +3 to Prevent Harm and Acrobatics, but bad things constantly happen around you. You always get out of it okay, but the people around you don't always.

-Does It Have A Steering Wheel?
Ignore the time to acclimate to a new type of vehicle, and +2 to Drive checks made with land vehicles.

-The Rum is Never Gone
Being a pirate is a hard lifestyle, oftentimes needing a hard drink to make it a little more tolerable. A Man or Woman of the Sea is able at any moment to find or produce from their person a flask or bottle of alcohol upon need.

---Powers---

Work, Damn You! - Spend a Will point. For the rest of the scene, you have +5 to Mechanics and +5 to Drive as long as your focus is entirely on the task at hand.

No More Chinese Laundry: Spend a Will point to assemble an explosive from everyday materials. Must have something on hand that could concievably explode -- can't just magic bombs out of thin air. Coconuts okay. At the end of the round you have at least one pound of highly unstable explosive material that will miraculously not go off in your hands. We'll leave it to you as to what to do with it.

---Ideals---

Always have a bit of alcohol in the ‘ole tank.
Stay the hell out of jail.
Make loads of money - if you’re not getting paid, what’s the point?
>>
>>36278999
>>36279059
As cool as a thirdsies hybird could be, it'd be a lot to work out, I agree with halfsie hybrids
>>
>>36279064

---Goals---
Zero: Walk away cooly from an explosion. No looking back, no flinching.
or
Zero: Perform some hella’ rad motorcycle stunts.
On-a-Roll: Pull of a major heist.
OR
On-a-Roll: Have his very own ‘wanted’ poster.
Hero: Go down in history as a notorious thief.
OR
Hero: Settle down, have some kids - get away from all the craziness.

Equipment:
Semi-Automatic Pistol - +1 to Ranged

Physical Description:

Sunglasses? Check.
Oversized track jacket? Check. Should really get this thing washed…
Cigarettes? Crap - I forgot to bring a pack.
Standing at a mere 5’4” feet tall, what Raymond lacks in height, he makes up for in style. His black hair is spiky and slick, usually pushed back by the pair of aviator shades sitting on top of his forehead. He sports a rounder face and sharp nose, and his thin lips are usually turned up in a smirk. However, Raymond’s most characteristic feature seems to be his thick, angular eyebrows.

Rundown: Raymond Rivers is a regular rascal without a penny to his name; a modern day street-rat who’s all in it for the money. Born on the streets of Washington, DC, he survived by learning to steal from others and keep his head low. Eventually, he landed a low-paying job working in an automobile factory, but realized he could make more money selling the shit he was making himself. Sure, it was illegal, but it paid well. Stealing parts, making a profit, and rolling in the dough. It was a good business, until one of the other factory workers ratted him out.
Raymond was thrown in the slammer like any other crook, but in the midst of a major gas pipe explosion, managed to slip out. Since then he’s been on the run from the authorities, but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing his practices.
While he can be a bit of a coward, and rather paranoid, Raymond takes care of himself and tries his best to do the same for others so long as they’re all workin’ towards the same goal.

>>

>>36279085
So, you pick the base animal and scale it up or down a category depending on the second animal. You can choose Human as a base animal, but not an altering one. If you choose Human as a base animal, you get two traits and can wear armor and use equipment unless specified otherwise. If you have no Human ancestry, you get a Natural Weapon that gives +2 to Brawl. Sound good?

>>Life in France

(The sun rises cheerfully in the East, lighting the small town below, and at the top of the hill, a manor house. The door opens, and a beautiful woman steps out, a contented smile on her face. Her hand brushes her belly absentmindedly: she's noticeably with child. She is BELLE LeGUME)

BELLE
Little home, in a quiet village
Every day
Like the one before
Little home
Full of little people
Waking up to say...

(Suddenly a two-year-old bursts from a third story window, swinging from a chain of sausages. He is GARIN)

GARIN
Mamá!

(Another boy, this one around three, launches himself from the chimney, a bearskin is his parachute. It is GUSTAV)

GUSTAV
Mamá!

(A mastiff crashes through the underbrush: it is being ridden by GILBERT, who is no older than one.)

GILBERT
Mamá!

GARIN and GUSTOV
Mamá!

ALL THREE
MAMA!

(She grabs the sausages and reels in Garin, and deftly catches Gustov)

There goes my Garin with his stomach growling,
And where did Gustov find a bear?
You should let me clean the skin
Before you bring it it in
to our charming little home

GARIN
Goo mawnig Mama!

BELLE
Good morning boys!

GUSTOV
Is Papa coming home today mama?

BELLE
Let us pray he does boys, Lord I miss him so.

(She pulls Gilbert from the back of his hound as the pair runs by. The dog looks back, uncertain how to proceed without direction. Gilbert gestures abruptly at his erstwhile mount, motioning towards the ground. The dog sits immediately, back straight, tail wagging. Gilbert nods in approval, then begins sucking greedily at Belle's breast.)

(The four make their way into the village, and the TOWNSFOLK look on)

TOWNSFOLK
Look there they go, that lot is strange, no question
That little trio raising Hell!

WOMAN
They won't play with other boys.

MAN
Making bloody bearskin toys.

TOWNSFOLK
Never thought we'd say the normal one is Belle!

(Belle sits with her bible at the fountain in the town square, and begins to read through the borrowed bible, singing happily to the infant at her breast. She points to the page, half of which is an illustration of a black and green dragon devouring a young man on horseback)

[The sun rises cheerfully in the East, lighting the small town below, and at the top of the hill, a manor house. The door opens, and a beautiful woman steps out, a contented smile on her face. The camera doesn’t focus on her, however, closes in on a small, barred window at ground-level, snaking down a cobwebbed shaft meant to allow light and air into a square room with stone walls in the cellar. Pushing herself out of an old wine-barrel turned bed is a beastly young lady with shaggy fur, doglike legs and stubby horns dressed in a much-patched serving girl’s dress. She yawns glumly and rubs her eyes. She is CLARISSE.]
CLARISSE:
Down here, in this drippy cellar
Every year like the one before
Down here, with the mice and spiders
Waking up to hear...

[Five curious SERVANTS huddled together and peeking in through the cell door’s small window let out a collective gasp.]

SERVANTS:
Mon Dieu…
Mon Dieu…
Mon Dieu…
Mon Dieu…
Mon Dieu…

CLARISSE:
I wish the grownups wouldn’t gasp, like always
And bring me more than scraps to eat
Just maybe something fresh and whole
Like a croissant or roll
That I could eat down here.
[ALPHONSE the Steward and NICOLETTE the Head Maid push their way through the throng to the door, chiding the others for their voyeurism. Seeing this, CLARISSE scampers across the room and pounces on the door, clinging to it with her claws and nearly shoving her face through the window, desperate for human contact but sending all but ALPHONSE and NICOLETTE off into hiding.]

ALPHONSE:
Good morning, Clarisse.
CLARISSE:
Good morning Alphonse!
ALPHONSE:
Did you sleep well..?
CLARISSE:
I slept in a barrel! But I had the most wonderful dream!
About a, what do you call it, a party? There was a cake and---!
ALPHONSE: That's nice Clarisse. NICOLETTE! Her breakfast, hurry up!
>>
>>36282014

[The SERVANTS, hiding in a stone alcove further on down the corridor pointing back toward the basement cell down the hall, whispering amongst themselves. They are found by their superiors, ALPHONSE and NICOLLETE, who don’t seem pleased by their chatter.]

SERVANTS:
Oh, that was close
The creature’s strange, no question
Crazed and dangerous, to say the least.
ALPHONSE: She really isn’t all that bad
NICOLETTE: I always thought her sweet and sad
SERVANTS: No denying it’s a curious thing, that Beast.

You people don't really understand how this system works, do you? We are not playing D&D, Intimidate is not always based on the same thing: if you're trying to scare people with your talking you use Charm, if you're trying to intimidate them socially by using big words you use Intelligence, and if you're trying to scare them by showing you muscles you use Robustness. There's no need to spend a trait or a power on it.

Since they would clash with the theme we are going for with the rest of the setting, we agreed several times to leave Disney properties set in space for a future, space based expansion.

Tensions run high when we get as deep into a /tg/ project as we are now. The best we can do is contribute and try to remain civil with each other.

How will they understand if us older poster don't at least take a moment to help them? New posters ought to read through the 1d4chan entry, that's true, and should ideally browse the arbie's threads, but we have such a HUGE body if fluff and crunch amassed by now that new posters are going to make mistakes and ask innocent questions every now and again. If we don't answer questions every now and again and alienate new posters, we'll not have any new blood infused into the project at all, which will be a detriment in the long run.

As long as their questions are honest and polite, why shouldn't we answer them?

>>
>>36283235
What a load of bullshit, we don't need any new blood by now: the system is done, the crunch is perfect. Getting new blood would just ruin what we already did. I'm sure you would like new posters with ideas about magic and playing wizards, right?

Anyhow, you know what I've realized about this map? It has no major routes and travel times indicated on it. Now, while maybe those details shouldn't go on the main map, they definitely should be on A map. Does anyone here think they know enough history and geography to be up to the job?

I'm gonna say that's all the ship and plane routes; time fro the roads.
>>
>>36283697
Travel times would vary based on tech levels. For instance, it'd be much faster to use an Atlantian ship than a French one
>>
>>36284423

What a tangled web we weave, when we ship and then receive. Nice job and pretty clear.
>>
>>36284595

Exactly. An Atlantean submarine is going to be a very fast and very safe means of travel, but while you might be able to charter a French, Virginian, Hunnic or pirate ship to to wherever you want it to go, Atlantean subs run on their own set schedules and routes without deviation, and likely cost a pretty penny to come aboard if you aren't an Atlantean or are traveling with one.
>>
>>36284423
Plane routes?
Who has planes?
>>
>>36284423

Maybe you should make the ship routes a darker blue. They're pretty hard to see on that map.

Got another character for today's playtest, wanted a little feedback before posting it in the campaign thread.

Name: Bartholomew "Brawlin' Bart"
Role: Strong Guy
Country of Origin: Never Never Land
Size: Medium
Species: Human

---Attributes---
Robustness: 12/12
Agility: 9/12
Intelligence: 6/12
Sensibility: 7/12
Charm: 6/12
Will: 3/3
Strikes: 4/4

---Skills---
Athletics: 3
Brawl: 5
Prevent Harm: 5
Endure: 5
Intimidate: 3
Driving: 3

---Traits---
The Rum is Never Gone: Being a pirate is a hard lifestyle, oftentimes needing a hard drink to make it a little more tolerable. A man or woman of the Sea is able at any moment to find or produce from their person a flask or bottle of alcohol upon need.
Sea Legs: Men and women of the sea are used to living and working aboard ships, and as such have adapted their mannerism accordingly. When aboard any sort of watercraft you receive +1 Robustness and Agility.
Bull Charge: +2 to Brawl when charging into combat.

---Powers---
Guts of Steel: Spend a Will point. You gain a +4 on your next five non-combat acts of physical strength.
What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor?: With the help of a Will point (and a copious amount of alcohol) you can perform a drinking song so obscene the next Music roll by another member of your party will receive a +3 bonus by simple virtue of comparison.

---Equipment---
Chains (+1 to Brawl)
Big Britches

---Ideals---
Nothing like a good ol' brawl to build up character and boost the spirit.
If physical strength doesn't work it's because you aren't applying enough.
Booze is love. Booze is life.

---Goals---
Zero: Get on a local newspaper thanks to your strength/fighting prowess.
On-a-Roll: Slug it out with a King.
Hero: Become famous as the greatest tavern brawler in the world.

Posting from my phone. I never thought that one thing I wrote last thread would engender as much dislike as it did. People seemed to like the other ideas so I will continue but with the understanding that the rumor mill ideas I am writing are just that, ideas to help DMs tweak the setting how they like. So a character will always have the option of being dead, but other options will be provided.
I'll start with another villain since I saw Jack Skellington and Santa already.

Oogie Boogie
>took over Halloween town, he has become a complete glutton. Hundreds of monsters and ghouls have been eaten by him, swelling him to an enormous size. He is kept together by numerous patches.
>figures can be seen kicking or pushing at his fabric, leading many to believe that if Oogie Boogie were defeated all he has consumed could be rescued.
>most of the natural residents of Halloween town are now safe as long as they stay in hiding. Oogie has developed a taste for other meats, especially fairies.

I could write more but what do you guys think?
>>
>>36285335
Eh....he likes to make soup out of people, so I'm not sure anyone can be saved. Then again, all his bugs and snakes were alive....it could go either way.
>>
>>36285302
Right but, the routes should show major trade routes, not Huntsman club expeditions.

Honestly there's probably more trade going on by sea and air there than there should be. Ursula controls the seas after all, and she does not like sailors on them. She allows the EITC because they pay tributes to her, but I understood that pretty much everyone else was basically blockade running.
>>
>>36285295

If they're flying around in Muntz' zeppelin, they could essentially land anywhere they want provided there was a flat enough place with enough room. Instead of runways and landing strips, hey might have basecamps, hunting lodges and trading posts they stop at regularly.
>>
>>36285371
Oh you mean the road? Not all the paths are necessarily trade routes, and that particular road I envisioned as being a road that used to run the whole length of Britain but the parts in Mor'du's realm have fallen to ruin.

As to the sea...let's just say that the EITC has a global near-monopoly on naval shipping.
>>
>>36285321
Yeah, that's what I meant. I assumed most of the time they'd be travelling in Muntz' airship
>>
>>36285470
Only the elite of the elite have the esteemed privilege of travelling in Muntz's own airship; they have lesser aircraft for the lesser members purchased from the Atlanteans.
>>
>>36285371
In the version I'm going to do I'm going to map out all the major causeways, whether they're used for trade, travel or troop transport. For visual clarity, I'm going to do the air routes on another map
>>
>>36284741
I just realized I had forgotten the rundown. Well, better late than never.

Rundown: Bartholomew Higgins sees alcohol and violence the same way most of his fellow pirates see wealth and women. He started his "career" as a bouncer and "professional tavern brawler" in the pirate haven now known as Never Never Land. His life took a sudden turn when a pirate captain saw one of his scuffles and decided a man with that potential was wasted among landlubbers. Bart likes to say he won his freedom with his own two fists, which is ironic considering that, due to his booze-fueled mood swings and pechant for accidentally cracking the ribs of other sailors, his fellows find him in the brig more often than not. Despite his drinking problems, boastfulness and attitude for violence he's not really an unpleasant man to be around, always ready to toast with his friends and apparently with a soft spot for animals. His piece de resistance are the tales of his most fondly remembered brawls, accompanied with reenactment of punches that always land a hair's breadth away from the faces of his audience (most of the times).

> Chernobogs magic basically created havoc on a world order, in the chaos NIMH simply had bigger problems. The Rats stayed in the rose bush. Nicodemus is dead and Jenner rules the council of Rats.
>the movie basically runs to its original ending but the rise of villains creates a change of plans. The rats become divided on what to do, one half joining Ratigan and the other half joining the Rescue and Truth Society.

Will continue if there is interest in this group.

The only one I'd tweak would maybe be Clarisse's though I am interested in your thoughts on it.

Maybe something like, "Help Clarisse avoid hunters and the Pontifex' Inquistion and smuggle her out of France." With the option of taking her somewhere like the Sunless Empire where her beastliness is less of an issue.

If we keep the idea of Ursula and Callypso warring over control of the oceans, that would allow for a more interesting naval game. Sailors could make sacrifices to Callypso for safe(r) passage, and players could get caught in the crossfire

THE BEAR
>The animals of North America are often as they are in Europe, and their beast kings are no different; where Mor'du rules a swathe of land on which not even the Horned King treads, the Spirit Realm hosts the personal nemesis of Amos Slade: a creature he will only refer to as 'The Bear'.
>Amos tells of a time when he chased a fox that had gotten his prize hunting dog's legs broken into the Spirit Realm. It was there that he first encountered The Bear. It slew the fox, though not before injuring Amo's leg by chasing him into one of his own traps and killing his other prize hunting dog.
>The Bear is, in Amos's own words, "a huge, melanistic kodiak bear with blood-red eyes.....melanistic? Aw, well you see, that's just a fancy science word I learned from Muntz. It just means that he's all black when being all black isn't normal for his sort of bear."
>Amos has sworn to get bloody revenge on The Bear, and the fact that he has failed to do so after over a hundred hunts brings into question the nature of The Bear. Sure, bagging a specific target is never easy in the Spirit Realm, but one has to wonder if The Bear is somehow supernatural....

Amos was always one of the more sympathetic villains; from point of view, knowing what he knew, he didn't do much wrong. As he saw it, he was keeping out a varmint and avenging one of his most beloved companions. So I'm writing stuff that makes him one of the more sympathetic Hunters; now he is again trying to avenge a beloved companion.

His other dog probably feels shitty about this too. He wanted to be Amos' top dog again, but not like this.

Thanks. There is more that I can add and still might yet, but I wanted to get something posted here that contributors might like.
>>
>>36278516
Would Yzma haver her own personal army of the best Chimerae she's created? I'd assume the lesser or failed experiments would be abandoned. Also, does she ever "accidentally" release a monster in the tributaries, only for her brave and noble warriors to defeat it? I could see her doing that. Using the areas she's conquered as a petri dish, to see what each of her creatures do when released on a human settlement and then deciding whether or not it's worth making more of them based on the gathered information.
>>
>>36287003
What's the relationship between the Hunters and the Sunless Empire? Yzma supposedly needs animals for her experiments, does she pay them to bring her live specimens?
>>36286852
Still, the more likely conclusion would be "That potion was really a tranquiliser, and now Yzma's soldiers are assassinating your friends and dragging you off to experiment on you, maybe make a chimera out of your genes."
Hell, it could be through Yzma that she discovers she's not actually cursed.
>>
>>36287125
She totally does all of this, plus having a majority of her population possessing at least one animal part or other, with many more being worse off. Check out the "Assistant Yzmanager" story in the fluff catalog if you haven't already for ideas.

Personally, I really like the playable chimera idea, and am probably going to roll one up after work.
>>
>>36287209
I'd imagine she doesn't let the Tributaries have animal genes. After all, that'd fuck with her experiments, since then she'd be judging Chimera vs Chimera settlements as opposed to Chimera vs human settlements. For this reason, she probably has a huge army of expendable, pure human peasants.

You polled ten people at a time most people were not on about one of the most fundamental mechanics in the system. It adds nothing, it merely complicates the system, breaks a class power, reduces the use of one nearly pointless skill and expands two already incredibly useful skills. You're like the fucking wizards, voting on things that have already been decided. We decided not to do this back when the foundation of the system was laid. We're not doing it.
>>36288461
Don't know how that happens.
>>
>>36288489
I read the rules on the 1d4chan page and the strikes being separated was already there. It's been there all along, from what I can see. Also, there's nothing in thread seven abous us deciding science would heal everything: apparently you decided that on your own. So there's no "we": rthere are rules we decided together, and then there's you and the version of this game you keep trying to push on everyone else. So, since we had already decided the strikes should be separated, and since we voted on it again yesterday, and since you are the only stupid fggot that keeps trying to change things we already decided, I propose yoiu stop fucking up our 1d4chan page and fuck off.

A song shouldn't be able to heal your physical wounds on its own, unless it's magic. Lets please, PLEASE remain civil gentlemen! There seems to have been a marked increase in tension and a decrease in civility in the last half-dozen threads or so that have slowed things down and brought the mood of this endeavor down with it.

I know that this can happen on long-running /tg/ communal projects, but it ends up driving new contributors away and sours everyone's disposition, little by little.

Okay, noted, you didn't read the 1d4chan page before editing it. Good to know I can safely ignore you.

>>36288846
Because all mechanics know how to drive every kind of vehicle, and can undo locks. Yes. There are abstractions in the ruleset. Get used to them.
Onto business: How should we limit starting equipment? Should we just let people start with whatever they want?
>>
>>36288737
Then please: explain where is the problem in having a split strike system.
>>
>>36288811

But wouldn't applied Psychology be Persuasion? After all, Science doesn't include Oratory.
>>
>>36288891
Again, assuming everyone has a duty to read up on everything when you can just explain it.
>>
>>36288891
Great retort Nob, I can see why you think you should be our leader now. Hey, did you even read that page yourself before saying Strikes shouldn't be divided? Because I did, that's how I started, and they were already there. They were always there.
>>
Wow, people are mad. Again.

>>36288854
This is the most logical any shipper had been so far.
>>
>>36288900
Psychology falls under Science like all of the non-engineering/mathematics schools, which fall under Academics. Science is an abstraction given how bizzarely multi-talented Disney doctors and scientists are, the doctor from Treasure Planet aside.

>>36288907
What do you want me to explain? That making drastic changes to a system's most core components before reading it is wrong?
>>
>>36288922
I've been here since the first thread, and I can't remember the idea of split strikes even being brought up... ever, until these last couple of threads.
>>
>>36288891
We could limit them by region. Most people in Roark's America should have a rifle handy, but a french peasant would find one almost impossible to get.
>>
>>36288943
But it's not a change, it was already there. And Science doesn't include social sciences, those are social skills.
>>
>>36288943
Yes. That is exactly what you should explain. I agree that it's stupid that they don't understand, but if you don't want to drive away the newcomers or force them into being wizards, then you'll explain to them.
>>
Okay, we definitely need to release a book of alternate mechanics when we're done. It seems like the only way to prevent this kind of argument.
>>
>>36288974
Then it was a drastic oversight, since it wasn't there when the combat system was first copy-pasted.
Also, yes, Science requires anything you'd need to go to a college to learn that isn't Academics, including social sciences.
>>
>>36288958
they got brought up briefly early in the project and were voted down. if they've been on the 1d4chan page that's a pretty big oversight since they were never supposed to be there.
>>
>>36288958
Because you never pay attention to us, Nob.
>>
>>36288922
This is why we should get a PDF up and running as soon as possible, so people can't just do whatever change they want. Where has the old pastebin gone?
>>
>>36288759
I'M NOT A WIZARD! I'M ACTUALLY CHERNOBOG!
>>
Can we talk about starting equipment first? That's more relevant to the upcoming playtest.
>>
>>36288943
What >>36288979 said.
You have to be more accepting of new people if you want this game to flourish.
I'd like to add that from a logical point of view, it seems obvious to me that physical wounds and mental ones shouldn't be healed the same way.
>>
>>36289002
Then you can use Science to persuade people, just like a true psychologist. Here, see, now it's balanced again, just like you wanted it.
>>
>>36289020
This guy's right. If the two types of strike are separated, the science guy and the singer don't step on each other's toes as much.
>>
>>36289020
Strikes are an abstraction, as they always have been. They don't actually represent physical wounds usually, since being physically wounded means you're defeated. Being struck is less being hurt and more a sort of 'nine lives' thing that's 'how long can I do this before I actually get hurt' or 'how long can I argue this before my worldview is seriously altered'
>>
>>36289045
Then how does science heal it? Also, what if you're wounded with a 9mm?
>>
>>36289020
And I add that from my logical view, both mental healing (psychology) and physical healing (the various fields of medicine) both are sciences but aren't large enough to deserve two separate categories unless the game expands in such a way where there is a VERY notable and distinct difference between mental and social wounds. Which from my point of view, isn't at this time.
>>
>>36289059
Come on anon, everyone knows it's okay if it's 9mm.
>>
>>36289059
Science can be a handful of different things; it can be convincing someone that they're good to go, it can be giving someone some logical advice on how to keep themselves strong, or it could be healing someone after they're defeated if they're shot.
>>
>>36289015
>it wasn't there when the combat system was first copy-pasted.
I remember it was there when we were still making the skill list: we clearly said that science could be used to heal physical strikes.
>>36289045
You can't just use abstraction as a magic word that fixes everything: you get a strike from an arrow because it graxed you, but then you still need to bandage it.
>>
>>36289045
So when someone loses a strike in a swordfight, for example, he parries the blow but the blade gets dangerously close? Is that how it works?

And what happens when someone runs out of strikes, then?
>>
>>36289079
No, the first two are social skills. Otherwise, social guy does nothing in between negotiations.
>>
>>36289079
>it can be convincing someone that they're good to go,
So you can use Science instead of Persuasion. That's pretty broken.
>>
>>36289102
Except that negotiating and singing are central concepts in the Disneyverse
>>
>>36289075
Exactly. According to Nob, they die if they're wounded. 9mm = lethal, apparently. Seriously, I'm a Britbong and even I know that's bullshit.
>>
>>36289102

>>36289088

>>
>>36289121
Running out of strikes /=/ death except in EXTREME cases. Usually it means you're unable to fight, knocked out, or having a breakdown.
>>
>>36289107
I can see it working against illusions.
"Jim, that can't be your wife, Jim! Your wife is safe back home in Paris! It's phisically impossible for her to be this far into the Amazon!"
>>
>>36289118
Yes, and in most RPGs, they're a very small part of them.
>>36289126
>somebody mentions magic in a completely out -of-context way
>must be a troll
Guys, I think we found a wizard.
>>
>>36289118
But psychiatrists and economists can do both those things pretty easily. That's Science, right?
>>
>>36289149
>knowledge of psychiatry = good at being a charming, likable person
>knowledge of economics makes = good at singing

Literally what
>>
>>36289092
Exactly.
when you run out of strikes, you're defeated. Usually what this means is you can't participate in the combat, whether that means your worldview is temporarily shattered as you try to get yourself back together, you succumb to the pressure, etc. If you take a physical wound, you're hurt but not dead.

>>36289121
Unless you're hit by a train or something, you're just too hurt to fight.

>>36289107
... What?

>>36289102
Social guy is literally everything in a narrative-based game, moreso because this is DISNEY.

>>36289149
Economists likely fall under academics or even barter. Not sure on that one, don't really see economists in disney movies.

>>36289139
Usually we'd consider that Insight, but with some clever arguing it could be Science.
>>
>>36289139
>hurp durp, science should be used for everything
You are pathetic and I know it's you.
>>
>>36289166
Convincing somebody something is persuasion. Why would you let science do that job?
>>
>>36289163
Negotiating, you sadomasochist moron! They have trining in social sciences, so can do that, right? And why not, if thbey can keep people going by talking to them, why not use this knowledge in other ways? Clearly, they can persuade people with Science.
>>
>>36289166
And even in Disney, scientists have very rarely been experts in social situations. Just look at Milo.

Or deceit, or barter, or a host of other things. Using Persuasion means trying to get someone to see something your way, through exploitation of emotions, etc. Using Science is more a "I'm a doctor. You aren't wounded. Man up."

>>36289221
Yes, and? That doesn't stop actual doctors, like Sweet, from doing their job properly.

>>36289207

It breaks balance if social guys can do the same things as science guys do. Give everyone a specific task. It doesn't matter how well that task is performed as long as no class steps on any other classes' toes.
>>
>>36289257
>How many social scientists do you know that are actually persuasive?
The same number of social scientists that you know that can use their theoretical training to cheer people up after their will got broken.
A good number, I guess?
>>
>>36289233
Smart guy's use is already heavily limited to Science, Academics, Occult, and occasionally Insight. Charming Guy's use includes Music, one of the most widely applicable skills in the game, along with Deceit and Persuasion, two more incredibly widely applicable skills.

>>36289289
Cheering someone up =/= getting someone to agree with you.
>>
>>36289257
> Using Persuasion means trying to get someone to see something your way, through exploitation of emotions, etc. Using Science is more a "I'm a doctor. You aren't wounded. Man up."
What if I took a Strike by falling down a cliff? Can a man up get me back going or should I at least get someone to check my ankle?
>>
>>36289317
If you fell off a cliff, you took more than one strike. Falling off a cliff without catching yourself is being Defeated, which needs actual medical attention and not just a pep-talk.
>>
>>36289315
>Cheering someone up =/= getting someone to agree with you.
It seems like a pretty thin distinction to make in such a narrativist game. Strikes from swords and lies must stay the same, but it's important that cheering people up and convincing them stay seperated? What an odd place to draw the line.

As a former newfag who joined a few threads back, enjoyed the playtest, and started namefagging, I didn't read everything, and yes, I made some mistakes because I didn't read everything, but people were fairly civil about it. I wouldn't want this to be denied to later newcomers, we need to deal with the fucking wizard paranoia. Knight, you're getting a bit crazy. If we keep calling every anon who says something we disagree with a wizard, this will keep happening. We have people working on a magic splatbook, and that's okay. People should chill the fuck out.

What, cliffs are instant death now? Protagonists in Disney movies immediately walked of way worse things, getting right back into action.
>>
>>36289376
>cliffs are instant deaths now
if you fall off a cliff without miraculously catching yourself on a vine or falling into water or something, yes. The thing is that Strikes are, once again, a sort of luck thing that is you not getting horribly, horribly injured. If you fell off a cliff and had strikes left, you'd lose a strike and land on something conveniently soft, fall into water, or snag a passing tree branch.
>>

Seems Nob to me. You're just forgetting your name too much today, my namefag friend.

Hey Sverd, how about any song at all? I think we really need one about now. You could try to continue the Clarisse song I started earlier in the thread if you like, or maybe a Mary-Sverd-Elsa love triangle song, or a song about Alameda Slim pondering his options for immortality?

It would be more accurate to say you could use it to predict how people will react to certain things, which gives you a bonus on a Persuasion made on another roll.
>>
>>36289496
Actually, if you don't let it be used in combat I can see logical argument being a viable persuasion technique. Science, maybe? Academics, maybe? It could expand the non-combat uses of Smart Guy even further, but it has it's merits.
>>
>>36289513
And I keep telling you that's a very specific point to draw a line: getting worn down during a fight and taking a lot of flesh wounds can be fixed with a prep talk, but the same guy that can fix your broken mind can't get you to agree with him on something? Why?
>>
>>36289538
Okay, for the fourth time;
Calming someone down, telling them to drink this and take these pills is a lot different than persuading a guard to not get his buddies, that this is totally under control, and that you're not criminals.

>>36289531

Also, I say we should define skills as follows:
Science includes things like psychology, general medicine, overall analysis of unfamiliar things through the scientific method (i.e. figuring out what a machine is intended to do, or what a collection of unfamiliar parts assemble into), and trying to fuck about with advanced technology (like repairing an Atlantean devices). Psychology is helping people work through issues, trying to apply it to convince people of shit it very difficult.

Persuasion is useful for convincing people of things.

Also, I say Strikes shouldn't be a luck thing. Taking a Strike from a physical source is an injury like a sprained ankle, heavy bruising, or another type of flesh wound that you need to get through either by having someone give you first aid or using the patented Disney Power of Friendship. It's fairly common in Disney for people to be able to recover very quickly from injury.
Psychologically given strikes are things that lessen your will to fight without hurting you physically. These are restored by someone who understands the mind talking you through it after the fight, or using the Power Of Love/Power Of Friendship to get through it.
>>
>>36289554
he literally said if you couldn't use it in combat. are you blind? it's not even nearly close to music, persuade, deceit, and a host of other skills.
>>
Can we get a definitive list of abilities that can heal Strikes? From what I can see there are:
>Science
"The bandage should hold up for now. Make sure not to strain the leg too much. Try walking with a cane, maybe."
>Persuasion
"I know it seems rough right now, but I want you to know you can do it, okay? We've been through worse, and we made it out alright".
>Occult?
"Doctors and their confounded medecines! Listen to me, sonny, chew on this here root and you'll be right as rain!"
>Mechanics, if one has the right power.
"This is the perfect opportunity to test my Flesh Ricombinator 9000!"
>>
>>36289551
But you just said I could do that!
Literally right here!
>>36289537

>>36289553
But now I have to roll more times, when the entire point of this system is to avoid too many rolls and rules and bonuses and just put together on attribute and one skill.
>>
>>36289579
Just read the Combat rule: you can use every skill with every attribute as long as you can justify it. Well, I'm using my medical knowledge of the human body to hurt them where it matters.
>>
>>36289575
Science is anything that isn't covered by Academics or Occult. Moreover, people aren't hurt much in Disney movies unless it takes them out of the fight.

>>36289581
There's just Science. We've been having that argument for the last thread.

>>36289583
Telling a guard to not get his buddies is reliant on emotions. How could that possibly be logical argument?
>>
>>36289538
If you lose a strike, you are not getting cut down. You are dodging it still, but it's much too close for comfort.
>>
>>36289583

We divided Dodge into Prevent Harm and Endure because people were getting confused by the fact that Dodge let you tank a hit and suffer no actual repercussions, like it bouncing off your skin and not bruising.

>>

Also, making absolutely anything falls under Craft or a power. We don't even have potions...
>>
>>36290075
We introduced potions when we discussed using science to give people buffs and we agreed to it. So yeah, I can also use Science to give out buffs.
>>
>>36290114
>we
Two people agreed to it. It's not listed under Science's use and it hasn't been discussed except to be shot down since, when it got embroiled in the discussions about magic.
>>
>>36290075
>Also, making absolutely anything falls under Craft
No, potions are Science. We taled it over for a long time and we decided for it. I know you hate to remember other people ideas, but you were there.
>>
>>36290136
We never shot it down because it never came up ever again: it was already in the system since then, so no reason to talk about again.
>>
>>36290075
>>36290057
I suggest we implement a new rule: Dual-skill rolls. To perform certain tasks, you must complete two checks. For example, to make a potion, I would make a Science check with Intelligence to know what to put in the potion, and a Craft check with Agility to have the steady hands to mix it all together.
For another example from this thread, to convince someone they have a disease, I'd make a Deceive check and a Science check. This lets us categorize checks much better.

What do you guys think?
>>
>>36290190
While I like the idea of keeping it as simple as possible, I also think that a lot of tasks should require more than one roll. After all, not every task is the equivalent of climbing a wall. So yes, I think that a double roll would be a nice rule: first you have to prove hoe to do something very complex, then you have to prove you can actually make it real.
Thanks, very good job.
