Last time on blackwood in a certain bunker containing some remnants of the Blackwood nation.

The underground was vacated due to an zombie horde pushing through the tunnels. So it was decided to best run up top and shut the door while trying to be REAL quiet.

So far it seems the zombies haven't noticed us yet.

After that research was done, an investigation was performed due to scanners picking up something, and bugs were harvested for...reasons.

Refinery research was done, flame throwers were researched, biofuel was upgraded, and a hell hound cybernetic pattern was developed.

Also Murphy is an asshole for forgetting to check some of the crates which made the whole flamethrower deal not as useful as it should of been.

After that research was done to see if it was possible to bond with BUGS!

SO FAR NO LUCK.

So yeah lots of research and its been rather peaceful...for now.

O yeah and any chance I can get the new workings of zombies for the Doc Z civ I'm working on?

>>36290185
I'm down for exploring, but lets us the prez's Investigate ability to help.

Heheh check your fluff.

You DON'T know. It twas a mystery back before the Fall.

as for zombie changes here you go.

Undead. Literally the walking dead notoriously difficult to kill/stop(free tip headshots don't mean instant kill)

Fun(a mixture of fungi/plant based zombies weird bastards despite general lack of mutant strains)

Infested(stuff like brood and the most mutant happy of zombie kind)

Infected(raging from RAGE shenanigans to stuff like modified forms of rabies ect considered potentially the most prolific)

Memti: (aka got brain fucked ranging from voodoo shit to outright lobotomizing and more previously known as magic and psi zombies but they are classified under the same catagory. Basically a bunch of poor bastards who got mind fucked/enslaved).

All I really did was move stuff around a bit fluff is still good btw I just didn't like how I categorized it and explained them the first time didn't feel right. I am most satisified with this setup though.

If it was voted for as a write in.

They are hard though.

Their upkeep is insane and players hate worrying about upkeep.

The base stuff I gave on their civ stats is still largely correct.
>>
>>36290571
Dam well if people want to know we will need to study it then. Thanks for the zombie info and now to update some things.

What's the cost for the hell hound upgrade and how many could we get per action?

>>36290755
For the people that want it.

>Civ Stats
Infectious: cannot breed normally must infect to increase pop.

Mindless: Morale cannot be broken due to how utterly stupid you are.

Severe reputation and diplomacy penalties.

We HUNGER: Zombies are constantly starving supply consumption is doubled however ALL turns are automatically considered a zombie action.

PLAGUE: You may choose one of the basic zombie archtypes. The effects will be revealed afterwards and you may ONLY choose one.

Extremely High Pop, poor supply, very poor manufacturing, very poor research very good war capacity

HQ Hospital, Ruins, Hive

Heroic Options

Minder
Cannibal
Strain
BrainZ
Voodoo
>>
>>36290755
Guess we need to go to a wasteland then. Look how fat the zombies grew there even as the Ghouls ate em and everyone else killed them.
>>
>>36290834
or what if we became the slaves of the Bloodsnows or Mysterious Island?
>>
Rolled 12 (1d100)

>>36290810
bah the HUNGER stat is incorrect.

Their supply consumption is actually triple the base rate and all base actions are considered zombie for free if there is no other modifier available.

Ghouls are merely doubled due to them having intact enough mental faculties to hold themselves back(kinda). They get access to the ghoulish modified action and players have seen what that is capable of.

PLAGUE stat will reveal the special trait depending on the chosen zombie type AND potential fluff.

>>36290834
Wasteland zombies...are something else.

They unlike the rest of their kin are lean and mean.

Research recommences with symbiosis to attempt to bond with the insects...

While they 'claim' to make progress our researchers believe the problem may lie within three possible ares. That of symbiosis itself, with the bugs, or with the lack of binding agent that seems to be holding itself back.

I did try to add my own little narrative to the Tesla Tek, I even attempted to engineer and officer so to speak. Hoped I could somehow see a hero made, had a big plan for them, that fell through. Now I'll just let these guys take their course.

Genie is notoriously bad for ommiting and hiding information, and whenever we try to infer what they possibly mean we're usually off.

I can only state the obvious that one bonus would likely tie into something of our past and boost us there, who we used to be

the other will be about something new to be learned, changing our methods.

From the past, we were expert jungle guerilla warriors fighting for our independence from foreign powers. If we return to that we may achieve a greater combat edge with us and our animals.

Who knows what the future will hold for us though, new technology? new research? new opportunities.

----------
You are Prez...ever since the faithful day when you took the test and was the first person ever since the bunker closed to be acknowledged as President. Since the Fall.

after your accomplishment and the AI sending out an alert, provided info, and keys before self destructing hence offer freedom from the oversight.

You...bore witness to the true lessons of the old world, the secrets of Blackwood Republic before the Fall, and finally granted access as de facto president.

Today after going out looking through the forest and the devastation of the forest fire...you finally came to a decision that was bothering you since the beginning.

You decided it was best to turn away from the old which led to the Fall...and forge a new path. Just as the flame scourged the trees...turning everything to ash. Only for new life to sprout. This spoke to you..whispering its hints...its secrets. You however couldn't hear it for what it was until you made a journey through the unburnt forest.

That was when you heard it true and upon thinking of it...came to your decision.

So you went to a certain closed of area...

it was time.

Awhile later.

"AHH THERE IS A BUNCH OF BEASTS WHO SPIT FIRE AHH ITS LIKE AN ACTUAL LIVING HELL HOUND AHHH."

"DAMN YOU MURPHY WHAT MADE YOU THINK AN ACTUAL LIVING FUCKING HELLHOUNDs WOULD BE A FUCKING GOOD IDEA.

Later Murphy gets back from his break muttering about lack of quality facilities and how to circumvent genetic limitations.

"MURPHY!"

"oi if you found that the chocolate was replaced with literal shit TOTALLY wasn't my fault."

"Wait you DID THAT TOO!"

"...oops."

---------

Later when people were finally fed up with it and were preparing to finish it once and for all...the prez sweeps in grabs Murphy for an unknown purpose before dragging him off. Saving him from exile or worst.

"BASTARD BROUGHT A ZOMBIE INSIDE THE BUNKER."

"HE CREATED IMPROVE LIVING HELL HOUNDS THAT SET THE FOREST AFLAME!"

ECT.

There he dragged him to a certain hub.

"Murphy I need you to fix this."

"Fix what?"

What lies within there. It bricked out once I did my exams. I need it back. Its time we set upon a new path."

"So...I wont get thrown out."

"No Murphy like I said a NEW path. That so far will include you."

"oh good oooh an AI Core."

"I need you to awaken it."

"Whats so special about it?

The cost ... the madness could spread or kill everyone around. Summery, I believe it doubles actions negative or positive.

Murphey and Jackie seem to have mad synergy. protection from madness should be seriously powerful.

"Wooh didn't think there was an old AI of this kinda spec..."

"Indeed the previous AI was to cover up it up. The actual purpose of this bunker the surround AI was to conceal it."

"A black AI..."

"You want to know why Blackwood was well...Blackwood?"

"Hm?"

"Once upon a time a long long time ago existed a certain family who went by the name known as the Blackwoods. This was long long ago way before even the Fall. Back then they were mighty wielders of magic. With a certain spell combining druidic spells, nature, and forbidden dark spells the place known as the Blackwoods was born."

"Supposedly that ended the Blackwood family legacy...but it didn't."

"While their talent for magic was burnt to a crisp they succeeded in helping the inhabitents and the forest. Their descendents however seemingly vanished...that is until the one known as Jack Lac appeared."

"hm? That sounds oddly familiar..."

"Indeed Jack Lac was a descendent of the blackwoods who suffered from Super Genius. That one designed a certain AI nicknamed the Blackwood. Though Jack Lac is better known as the Founder of the Blackwood Republic."

"It was this AI that allowed for the Blackwood Republic to form back when AI were almost entirely unknown except for nightmares. It was thanks to that AI that a republic was formed despite its nature and views of it."

"That AI is codename Blackjack simply because it LOVES to gamble and its favorite game is obviously-"

"Blackjack?"

"Yes."

"Blackjack is an ancient AI that went asleep long ago even before the Fall for it was replaced by other AI. I need it awake."

"Why if it founded the blackwood republic..."

"It didn't."

Hm? Did it keep it safe?"

"No."

"Then what?"

"It studied the Blackwoods and offered assistance. Once its creator died however it stopped listening to orders and would only 'deign' requests. However they weren't exactly too pleased with it but put up with it until they found replacements."
>>
Rolled 8 (1d100)

>>36296275

"After that Blackjack was dealt with...too bad they couldn't kill it though."

"...wait how?"

"Simple I am sure your familiar with AI's mastery of tech no?"

"Well obviously."

"what if I told you this AI wasn't like the others?"

"How so," asked Murphy as he kept working.

"It was able to manipulate nature itself."

"...what?"

"Heh exactly. Turned out Blackjack was studying the blackwoods...for all that time."

"An AI with a nature affinity?"

"Exactly."

"Ancient Artificial Intelligences are something else."

"So it manipulated the woods against them and out manuveured its so called 'replacements'."

"Why did it not finish them off or just go to sleep."

"Who knows. That is one of the things I wish to find out."

"They were never able to deal with it and according to records they made a truce."

"What were the terms?"

"Requests would be considered in exchange the woods were to be maintained at all costs with minimum manipulation."

"oh?"

"Yes its thanks to Blackjack the black woods were able to stay."

"Of course all reports say otherwise. Truth be told if they could of gotten away with it the woods would be but a shadow of its former self."

"Why do that?"

"Blackjack had a fondness for its creator who loved the woods more then anything despite being one of tech and science."

"Ah so a memoir of its maker..."

"Yes I believe so its maker was a dreamer though and I have a feeling it might have changed."

"Why do you want it awake then?"

"The AI knows the much of Blackwood and it loathed the Republic it bore. Only reason it let it stood was its master's creation. Otherwise...yeah"

"Well its on now."

*whirring and crackling*

"What is your purpose president? "You...move away from the Republic form what shall you do now?"

Options are the following you as you turned away from the fringe idea of a Republic the AI will expect something...else. Might be able to convince it of something similar to a republic. Just be aware the option you chose was that of a new path.

Politically wise the setting pre Fall was REALLY ass backwards politically and ideology wise.

since you had actual power in 'blood' and deities wandering around...

Divine mandate and 'legit' superior bloodlines REALLY put a damper on things for their development.

While they HAD the concepts of a 'republics', 'democracies', ect. It was considered REALLY fucking fringe as hell and was almost unknown as an possibility.

>>36296541
Republics were seen as fringe as shit back before the Fall.

Kinda hard to get something like that off the ground with literal divine mandate, actual superior lineage, ect.

Did a real number on things for their development heh. It was interesting concept to think about. Especially once I got upon the changes for Red Army and their stuff.

Pro tip they were insane hardliners egalitarians during a time when such a thing was seen as impossible/insane. The surviving remnants of the block that was the Reds ended up turning socialist and fascist.

Their legacy was still strong though and fucked a LOT of shit up. Eventually it collapsed though and believed to have devoured itself.

Yeah...the commies were also seen as insane. Its just they managed to catch on temporarily before they crashed and burned REAL badly.

The only survivors from that time were the socialists factions who were gradually picked off and the fascist like factions who actually managed to hang on rather well compared to the rest of them.

Really the greatest fault of the Reds was that they tried to do their push too soon and paid dearly for it.

>>
>>36297470
Having Pops lead the police is a bad idea. Secret Police and normal police are VERY different things.
>>
You know what I want?

A hero that speaks their bloody mind and proposes goals.

We benefited sooo well from Marcus or Richard or Clora Zel telling us things that needed to be done in Memor quest.

If we have a system of government, I want it to include a council of heroes and smart guys who will present to us the most important issues and suggest long term plans, then we as players deal with the details of how it's done (getting more tanks, or tech, or what have you).
>>
>>36297508
True, but cops still go undercover and he would help greatly there. Granted I do like the idea of having mostly secret police keeping everything in line and the people happily never knowing bad things happened.

There's a good idea. Divide people into profession-castes using an aptitude test (though with heavy allowances for what people WANT to do factored in) and then have a leader from each caste sit on a council which is headed by the Prez...who ultimately makes all the decisions.

Military government based on some sort of meritocracy. People are given jobs they are suited for or benefit the group. Upper level descision made by council of combat, economic, tech, social, health advisors. The prez represents general population and leads council. Militerization is key to expansion.
>>

The Socialistic Meritocracy of Blackwood

A military-industrial centric government where people are sorted by their specific merits and traits with jobs best suited to their talents, divided into specific casts of Combat, Economic, Technologic, Domestic, and Spiritual groups, each with their own Councilor. All work together for the greater good of of the State.

The Councilors form the Council, headed by a president. A Councilor is chosen based on being the most superior in aptitude and ability in their specific caste, the president is chosen based on his ability to dominate as well as lead the Council, thereby only the best ends up at the very top.

How's that?

"Hm I see how...interesting."

President has acquired the following upgrades:

trait
Commander in Chief: bonus to leadership in regards to other officers

Industrial: Bonus Manufacturing

Militarized: Bonus to military

Merited: Mild bonus to morale and ALL actions

Socialist: You see the ways of the Red Rain has merit after all and are interested...
Abilities acquired

Lowdown: Able to perform a walk around OR examine one particular element in detail

Passives

Pinky: This one is swayed by the words of the lost Red... mild bonus rep and diplomacy for similar however the reverse is true for those who aren't.

Traitor: Those who stay 'true' to the old ways of the Blackwood republic see you as one. Former enemies may however look upon you in a better light...

Special units spawned:

Commander of Military.
Chief of Technology.
Domestic Representative.
President of Economics.
VACANT(temporary)

Your want for spirituality has been noted but be careful of who you decide to throw your lot in with.

Current spiritual options are the following.

>Volza of the Deep.
>Of Spirits
>Ancestral Call.
>Obda of the Forest.
> Local Pantheon
>Zorue'Visha
>Red Rain

You don't have to choose one right now...others may appear in due time. Whoever you choose will have a special unit spawned who will serve as rep of spiritual.

If special units are otherwise occupied/engaged they keep a chancellor on hand to serve as representative in case of absence.

Local pantheon accepted.

Acquired Special Unit Priestly Speaker.

Introductions are made between current council.

As for discussion of important issues...the fire was brought up, zombies lurking underground, and possible expansion.

Bunker has plenty of space for 10k total problem is there will be little room to spare for much else like facilities. So we can either have more facilities inside...but that would converting living space.

ah for key issues...expansion and protection of current interests.

For that they aren't entirely sure...from what few scout reports there are the region around your immediate bunker are rather...empty. Well besides monsters who appear to be the sole exception.

Are you trying to make me do your job for you?

Local pantheon report.

Made up of lesser deities who work together from around this area.

What they lack in power and experience they make for in adaptability(kinda) and eagerness.

...Don't expect a whole lot from them as their current power level is quite low.

The strongest is Moga the Forester.
Followed my Gimlic the Rooter.

there are others of course but those are the biggest players.

seriously though don't expect me to fluff up a pantheon on demand shit takes forever to do so properly same with the damned councilors fuck I can't make an entire group of key NPCs that quickly.

Commander states current trained capacity is 250 troops in our military. We are lacking in proper mods and power armor to enable heavy recruiting from female populace which would nearly double our military capacity.

Chief states that the...unlocking of symbiosis pair bonding connection is unlikely to work very soon if at all with insects.

Domestic Representative states the populace is worried with sudden changes but considering how they didn't exactly live up to the old way either they seemed to be capable of acceptance. He suggests 'adjusting' with the previous 'learning materials' for future generation indoctrination.

President of Economics suggest either picking up our manufacturing or dealing with Red Army.

Priest states the current pantheon is of weaker lesser deities at the moment due to lack of...well worship. They are lacking in strength but there IS a decent number of them. Currently this is the majority holder for the spiritual as other powers are...nigh nonexistent.

Scouts make excellent time and cover good ground with probing eyes.

According to them there are now less then 6 monster dens scattered throughout the ground.

About 2 zombie hives with a roaming horde or two lurking around.

They report they HAVE found the presence of other factions including some traces of elusive tribals and some bandits.

Though to be more specific the place is fucking huge a tower past even the forests far below. Despite its great size...the tower is bizarrely empty of bandits. Beyond that the only other major sign of bandits is a former military base of some kind. Unlike the previous desolate tower the military base is a bit more sprawling...yet oddly empty as well.

According to the scouts they noticed a few bandit camps but besides the raider stronghold and tower there are just a few camps scattered around with nothing much.

They DID however discover a concealed bandit camp somewhat near our bunker with bandit scouts who appear to be keeping an eye on certain someones...like ourselves.

They don't know how long we been watched or why they haven't made a move.

For the most part...the forest is largely empty of fellow factions.

...like big time.

Place is bit too 'wild' for most survivors except for homesteaders or those fleeing from elsewhere and the forest have long since over taken much of the few infrastructure nearby.

They THINK they found some overgrown ruins here and there a couple bunkers besides ourselves. They even noted a few 'somewhat' intact facilities scattered here or there...but they are few and far between.
>>
Rolled 34 (1d100)

>>36301069
the 'bandit' spire is worth noting to be surrounded by a sprawling complex/base gone to utter ruin.

The only actually 'populated' bandit base is an old military compound and even then its quite iffy. However scouts have reported they noticed regular traffic going on among the bandits bases and the camps. Even with roaming bands/parties though they appear to be mostly leaving the local area.

a few tribal traces were noted. Believe there might be an few other reasonably intact facilities and bunkers lurking around. Mostly ruined/overgrown sadly.

Pops goes undercover at a nearby bandit camp...and barely makes its.

Sadly Popo wasn't able to stick around too long as the place is too small and hence too familiar with each other.

According to him its just a simple bandit camp usually they are used as one of two ways. 1 to keep an eye on whatever or number 2 a base of operations for whatever they are up to nearby.

According to him the place is largely barren of bandits for good reason.

Too few prey, bad terrain, and few too many threats.

Sadly pops wasn't able to acquire much more info before needing to bail.

The gear the Red Army handed to us is brought out and tested.

Sadly its in limited quality and uses different munitions then what we have on stock.

On the plus side their shit is sturdy and reliable. Wont break easy and can take a beating. It is rather lacking in other areas admittedly....but hey at least its 'cheap' supposedly. According the Prez even long after the reds ended their gear flowed like water due to how inexpensive it all was that and the ludicrously large stockpiles they had built up.

According to the troops they state the tunnels are largely empty...but now are rather plagued thanks to the zombie occupying and passing through. In other words its hazardous.

Murphy states there isn't anything has he already has a pet zombie.

Anyway I am gonna crash sleep drugs be kicking in finally...
