LAST TIME, ON POKEMON: SOUTHERN SHORES QUEST….

Grey and Dani finished their shopping! Fully prepped for their adventures outside JAY CITY, they made a quick stop and said their final goodbyes to Erwin, Veteran Ranger and Mapmaker. They then headed back to the Medical Center and Trainer House to collect Erica. Unfortunately, Erica was getting some verbal heat from ELICE, the nurse. After some rocky introductions, Elice insisted on a battle to prove that the three Sorties were ready for their Tour...

Later that day, the three trainers headed WEST to strengthen and train their respective teams. Grey went on the hunt, finding something interesting....

You are Grey, Trainer to two relatively fresh Pokemon, and you’ve just walked back into camp.

Dani and Erica have done a great job setting up the campsite. Everything is tucked into a relatively clear area and surrounded by a few trees. A laundry line is hung between a pair of trees holding a bathing suit; they must have gone for a quick dip in the river. Shadows dance across the trees, brush, and Erica’s back. She’s sitting on the ground, Mossimer in front of her – and you can hear plastic “clicking” noises. She must be training him.

The tents have been set up excellently – must be Dani’s doing – but there are only two tents set up. It makes sense only setting up the two SILPH-brand “Steelix” ones - you know you wouldn’t feel as safe in a standard-issue tent, and you wouldn’t want Erica or Dani to be forced to sleep in one either. You knew it was going to happen when you bought them, but,... someone’s going to be sharing a tent.

You take a seat on a large stump next to Dani. The blonde is languidly sitting in a fold-out chair while looking at her pokedex. Vlad sits on her head as usual. You watch her finger flick listlessly over the screens before a delicious smell hits your nose, and you notice something is heating up over your little camping stove. Dinner! Very nice.

Dani must have heard your stomach rumble, because she turns her head to smile at you. Doing so causes Vlad wobble a bit, but he manages to cling on. “Hey.” She leans over, bumping her shoulder into yours. Vlad wobbles again. “How’d it go? Did you catch anything? Find anything we could feed Erica to?” Erica gives a little “Hey!” Dani laughs, and you smile. “Dinner is almost ready. Any plans for tonight, Grey?"

We didn't actually give Vlad and Moss a chance to do anything so they could probably use the practise too
>>
>>36306430
Training with everyone can definitely be an option.

At the least, though, we will have to decide on what we want to focus on with the Growlithe and Mittens.

We can start with Mittens:

Do we want to work on Speed? Strength? Psychic attacks? Learning a move (if so, what)?
>>
>I caught a Growlithe! Wanna meet him?

oh geez i actually made it in time for a thread... i actually just got caught up on the archive but i'm pretty new to posting ,this will be my first time participating in a quest instead of lurking, so bear with me... here's hoping hes in a play-full mood...

>>
>>36306487
Mittens could probably do with practising that confusion some more (and it wouldn't hurt for us to get used to being nearby when it procs too)

Growlithe could use the Mittens-Grey Move Determining Method (MGMDM) and depending on whether it already knows a fire move or not we can go from there. (Did we find out what gender it was btw?)

Also if you have a moment, an updated pdf with the new poke's and movesets wouldn't go amiss.

Captcha: deserts finding

Yes... I think we WILL find things in the desert, Captcha...
>>
>>36306787

“Actually, Dani….” You stand up and pull out your second now-full Pokeball. “I DID manage to catch something!” With a flick of your thumb over the release the Growlithe comes bounding out, a flash of light and a bark heralding his arrival. He quickly takes a slightly-defensive posture, sniffing the air and lowering his ears as he peers at Erica, Dani, and Vlad.

Dani hurriedly gets out of her chair to kneel next to the fiery fuzzball, his form a collection of black and orange stripes topped with fluffy collections of white fur. He growls at her slightly, but she raises her hands while cooing in a soothing manner. He sniffs her a bit before letting her slowly pet his back. “He has a very nice coat, and he’s so warm!” Dani brushes her hands up as she stands up. “How did you find him out there? I thought Growlithes were hard to find in singles.”

Dani then makes to put a hand on your arm, but the Growlithe doesn't approve. Immediately, he starts barking at Dani angrily, moving to get in between of the two of you. He then continues growling until she has backed a few steps away, a confused grin on her face. Seems like he’s pretty protective!

>>>>

You bring out Mittens and, after some introductory sniffing and mewling, you find that Mittens and the Growlithe get along well enough. He seems to not like sharing you with Mittens, but he seems to respect his place on the team and doesn’t give her a hard time.

“He think that he must protect you, TrainerGray.” You peer down at your little Espurr as she offers a little psychic explanation on his behavior. “I tell him I protect you too. He say that okay.” You smile and pet her between the ears, eliciting a purr and a slight growl from the Growlithe. You wag a stern finger at him, eliciting a tiny whimper.

“Thanks, Mittens. Would you mind helping me find out what he can do?” The little cat nods, a confirming “Mhm!” echoing in your mind.

You find a nice clear area near the bank of the river. You talk through Mittens to your Growlithe, little by little, trying to work out the best way to see what he knows. First, you try the basics:

“Okay, tell him I want him to use Ember to set that twig over there on fire.” Mittens nods, then leans her head downwards and towards the Growlithe. His eyes dart back and forth a bit, and you can imagine it must be confusing for him having someone talk to him through his mind. Eventually, however, he turns around, digging his paws into the ground. He growls, and the tendrils of flame begin to lick up and around his teeth. He barks and in doing so, a small burning flame shoots forth and hits the tree. It burns quickly before you stamp it out, extinguishing the flame.

“Awesome, okay… next.” You grab a medium-sized branch. “Mittens?” The little Espurr looks up at you again. “Can you ask him to… bite the stick? But maybe do it while really angry and thinking nasty thoughts.” She looks at you for a moment, perhaps trying to understand your instructions, before nodding and turning back to the Growlithe.

Sure enough, though, the Growlithe gets a dark look in his eyes and begins growling. As he does so you notice a bit of what looks to be dark smoke creeping from between his teeth. Then he lunges, his teeth snapping the branch viciously.

“Alright…. Let’s move onto something a bit harder. Hm.” You flip out your pokedex, skimming through the moves trainers have recorded their growlithes knowing. “Hm. Something like heat wave seems really useful.”

You explain to Mittens that you want the growlithe to get really hot this time, and to try and make everything around him really hot as well. As hot as he possibly can. She nods once again before explaining. Then, you take your little psychic and don your fire-retardant gear. You position growlithe near the water and back away before giving the go-ahead.

>You want me to make everything hot…? DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM, TRAINER?

In hindsight, it was a very good idea that you had your growlithe do this next to the river. Also, you’re very glad that you got the gear for handling fire types.

You definitely needed it.

>>>>

You have Mittens behind your crouched form, with your own body covered by heat-resistant and fire-proof clothing. You slide your mask down and pull on your other glove before calling out: “Alright, Growlithe! Use Overheat!”

Your growlithe gives a short bark of affirmation before settling into another strong stance. He closes his eyes, the flames once more licking up past his teeth. Only, this time, the flames rise past his mouth, obscuring his face. You watch, then, as they hit his white fur.

You had read that growlithe naturally produce fire-retardant fur. However, they can also emit or excrete a type of oil that burns very hot. And, well, you have to say that your readings were right – it is very hot.

The plumes of white fur around the growlithe catch alight, and suddenly the fire turns from a dull orange to a bright blue. The flaming furball opens his eyes, growling once more as the areas of your body not covered by your specially-made gear begin perspiring. Parts of the river begin to boil, and the grass next to the growlithe either catches fire or simply turns to black dust.

“Holy shit.”

>>>>

About ten minutes later the three of you had managed to put out the rest of the fires that were started. You had used the foaming gel you purchased which suppressed the larger blazes as Mittens and the Growlithe focused on beating sand onto the smaller burns. You have to say that fire types, like psychic types, are amazing. Amazing, and very scary.

You had to sit by the bank of the river for a bit after that and take a breather. You were very proud of your pokemon – they had been exceeding your expectations at every turn thus far – but you would need to get a better handle on their abilities if you didn’t want to lose your eyebrows with every battle. “Also…” You look down at your Growlithe, who is flopped on your lap and panting furiously. You scratch his ears. Mittens, idly playing with some grass next to you, gets hers scratched as well. “That didn’t look like Heat Wave. At least, not how I’ve seen it done in the leagues…” You stop scratching the Fiery Menace for a moment in order to flip open your pokedex once more. You scroll through the moves list… there. You play the demo video for Overheat.

“Yep. You definitely used Overheat… No wonder you’re so tired! That’s a pretty high-level move!” Your Growlithe just slightly yips at you, tongue flopped out and eyes half-lidded. He seems slightly proud of himself, albeit exhausted.

“Hm… That gives me an idea.” You switch from Growlithe to Espurr, and once again scroll through the moves. You look through various psychic moves and their variations until you finally settle on something. You turn to Mittens. “That wasn’t a Confusion attack, was it?” She just looks up at you, bunches of grass in her paws, and blinks rapidly.

“TrainerGrey? What no confused?” You laugh and ruffle the fur on her head.

“Well not you! You’re plenty confused!” She just paws your hand off her head grumpily. “Aw. It’s okay! I was just looking at what you used against Elice and the Audino. Turns out you hit everyone with a psywave, and a strong one at that. Hm… We’ll still need to work on your confusion, though. That should be easier to isolate.”

You let your Growlithe rest on the cool grass of the clearing as you stand up, stretching and motioning towards Mittens. “Alright, Mittens. We’re going to work on your Confusion!” You grab a paw and help her up, and she giggles as you lift her off the ground.

“Confusion!” She triumphantly says, her voice like a featherweight bubble of bright happiness in your mind.

“That’s right! We’re going to practice your Confusion!”

“That’s right! Now… I want you to… hm…” You look around for a target. There’s nothing too apparent, and you don’t want to volunteer yourself quite yet… “Okay, imagine that tree right there has a mind.”

Mittens stares at the tree you are pointing at, then looks back to you. “TrainerGrey? Tree no mind!”

You give her a small smile. “I know, but I want you to pretend it does and attack it!”

Her ears tighten up and her little mouth turns downward. “But doesn’t?”

“Uh… Well, you need to pretend it has a mind so you can practice, silly.”

She just keeps looking at you and the tree in turn, frustration on her face. “Tree… But…. doesn’t?”

You kneel down and put a reassuring hand on Mittens’s head. This would probably be easier if you were psychic yourself and you could relate to her. As it stands? This… might be harder than you thought.

You run a hand through your hair as you sigh. “We need something with a mind for you to practice on…?” Mittens nods in the affirmative. “Alright…” You lay down, arms at your side and legs straight out. “Well… Looks like you’ll have to practice on me, Mittens!” The little Espurr waddles to your side, concern on her face.

“Hurt TrainerGrey? No. Mittens no hurt Grey. Mittens good pokemon!” She places her little paws on your chest, shaking you a bit as she pleads telepathically. “No! Mittens find TreeMind! Mittens sorry! No hurt TrainerGrey!”

A bit of sadness and shame fills you. You don't want her to be distressed or feel bad. She's so self-conscious. You place a reassuring hand on her head once more while cooing at your little purple Espurr. “Everything’s okay, Mittens. You won’t hurt me and you didn’t do anything wrong – you just need to practice and you can’t practice on trees! I was silly to suggest it. All you need to do is focus on being confused, okay?” She nods her head. “Like when you were trying to find the tree’s mind. Take that feeling and then… give it to me. Slowly. Okay?” She nods again. “If you think I am not okay then we can stop. Alright?” You lay your head down on the grass, and Mittens plops down behind you.

You feel the warm and soft sensation of her paws on your forehead, and you watch as she closes her eyes.

“Ready.”

“Okay, Mittens… just try to make me understand what it is to be confused, but very slowly.”

It starts of very slowly, at first. Like a slight itching at the back of your scalp. Nothing like before – you can tell she’s not even trying. You can practically taste the apprehension and fear pouring over from Mittens’s mind. She’s scared, and she’s hesitating.

Go ahead – I’ll have to get used to your abilities somehow, and we all have to get stronger one day.” Her response comes as a sort of… twinkling? Like her voice and her emotions, her…. Presence? Brightens and dims in your head. You still can’t get used to it, someone being in your mind like this – you feel so naked, so open, yet so close. You know that Mittens could rip your mind to shreds if she wanted to, but she doesn’t. Instead she is a constant, warm presence in your mind.

Waves of psychic energy pour through from her, and you can feel her protective nature. Her shame. Her desire to make you happy. Her desire to be “Good.” The waves get stronger, and her connection with you begins to be drowned out by one specific line, or thread: confusion. The attack begins.

You’re not sure what’s happening in the outside world, but you are dimly aware of your breathing increasing. You try to regulate it but… Time changes. Shifts. It’s like every sense distorts: time, space, gravity – backwards becomes forwards and forwards becomes backwards. You feel like you’re stumbling, like you’re falling. You’re drowning now. A bit of instinctual fear escapes you, but you can hear Mittens’s voice ring out clearly “TrainerGrey okay. You okay. Mittens here.” You focus on that voice, the only thing in this mindscape that isn’t warped and disturbed.

The waves hit you again, and again.

You understand that the only comfort came when you focused on not your body, not the world – but Mittens. The bright light; a steady beacon in this shifting, swirling sea of darkness. Your mind lashes onto that light, cementing yourself to it as best you can. You try to block the nauseating rocking, the twisting of space itself, from your peripheral and just focus on that light.

It becomes brighter and brighter, closer and closer. The waves are not smashing against you now, but instead you feel as if you are bobbing with them. You are not fighting, but floating.

Awesome! I'll boot it up at home.

Please go ahead and vote and discuss. I'm going to leave for home and I'll keep updating from there.

things to discuss:
Sleeping arrangements?
challenge the gym in Jay City?
additions to the team?
nearby places to explore?
Take up some trainer tasks for cash or glory?
>>
>>36310534
>Scene 3: Ears

Glad I finally caught a thread.

Also,
>>36310598
>additions to the team?
I'm not saying we should try and keep the fire train rolling. All I'm saying is that I would not be opposed to finding a Cyndaquil or Quilava at some point.
>>
>>36310598
Personally I don't like to rush into the gyms...I like to grind...a lot...
but maybe we just do a little more practice (also train Vlad and Mossimer) and find ourselves a flying type...
>>
>>36310675
Typhlosion is pretty much one of my most favorite pokemon. That and Tyranitar.
>>
>>36310598
yo, what time are you planning on stopping tonight?
>>
>>36310598
>Sleeping arrangements?
Everything else aside, Erica would probably feel most comfortable sharing with Dani.
>challenge the gym in Jay City?
I think it was asked before and you said you'd try to answer it IC but is there a particular order to challenge the gyms in? If the Jay City gym is a relatively early one then I say go for the battle. Grey should have no trouble with an early gym but Dani and Erica could probably use some practise and more pokemon.
>additions to the team?
So on that note I reckon we should spend the next day hunting for more pokemon. It would also be a shame not to use Dani's fishing rod whilst we're out here.
>nearby places to explore?
Nearby within West-of-Jay-City or nearby of Jay City in general? I reckon stick to plains and grasses, looking out for a sandshrew or another fire type as per >>36310675
>Take up some trainer tasks for cash or glory?
How do they work? Is there some kinda virtual bounty board we access from our SILPHones? It wouldn't be a bad idea to peruse the available ones and see if anything catches our fancy
>>
>>36310534
>Scene 1: Steps
Let's start with the beginning, I guess
>>
>>36310731
I...don't actually care for Typlosion. I know, it sounds like heresy, but I don't really like the design. I mean, I don't HATE it, but it's certainly not one of my favorites.
>>
>>36310598
Shuckle. I desperately want a shuckle. And a flying type like togekiss, alteria, or tripius.
As for sleeping arrangements, enter a tent and let everyone else decide where they're sleeping.
>>
>>36310598
Erica and Dani should share a tent. Need a few more pokemon for The gym, kinda like having at least 4 or 5 to tackle it inc ase we get bad matchups, also DAni and Erica need more mons too. Additions tot he team might want to shoot for a fire/something else or maybe a weedle for bug and poison terror. That being said we should check everywhere of the next couple of days just to see what the spread is. If one or two look good for us we should totally take a trainer task.
>>
>>36310780
Completely understandable. Everyone can't like the same thing.
>>
>>36310598
All I'm saying is that I think we could use a good Flying-type. Say, a Staraptor.
>>
>>36310780
That's perfectly reasonable, I quite like it but I can see why someone wouldn't care for it.
>>36310805
Shuckle, however... It's not that I don't think it's a decent design, it's just that I can't see any merit in owning one...

As for a flying type, my vote is for finding a gligar somewhere.
>>36310842
I'd say 3/4 max, we should leave some slots open for catching more exotic pokemon
>>
>>36310871
Staraptor would be cool.
Personally, I would go for a Braviary, or maybe keep it old-school with one of the Pidgey evos.
>>
>>36310910
I'll admit pidgeot is a straight up bad ass.
>>
>>36310910
>>36310871
>>36310932

>>
>>36310885
No merit in owning shuckle? how about he's a god damn bad ass, not giving a single fuck about no one?
>>
>>36310932
True that you can't go wrong with a Pidgeot.
>>36310945
Already got a psychic type ourselves, so if we grabbed a noctowl it could be for Erica or Dani

Still, flying scorpion is my vote

>>
>>36310910
If we're getting a flying type it has to be a Hawlucha.
>>
>>36310989
can't believe I forgot hawlucha. but can he learn fly?
>>
>>36310910
Flying wise I can never get enough Pidgeot.
>>
>>36310969
>>36310981
Fair point...question then do we have a theme as a trainer...I mean it seems that most here are into fire (no objection there) and fire psychic would be a cool combo...or are we just grabbin mons...
>>
>>36311021
He can, yeah. Plus he can do flying High-Jump Kicks and elemental punches.
>>
>>36311061
from how our character was introduced, it sounded like we were more strategic than usually, being able to pick different types intelligently
>>
>>36311093
Thats what I was thinking as well
>>
>>36311021
Nope. Made me so sad.

BUT WHO NEEDS FLY WHEN YOU CAN FLYYYYYYYYIIIINGGGG PRESSSSSSSS
>>
>>36311061
Well, if we were going for theme's Erica could build the following:
-Parasect
-Sandslash
-Nidoking
-Kingler
Gotta get all dem claws yunno?
>>
>>36310948
also, dont forget how powerful shuckle gets with powertrick, powersplit, and gaurd split
>>
>>36311061

>>
>>36311126
I don't feel like we should plan a theme for the other people on our team.
>>
>>36311179
That's fair, haha
>>
>>36311170
so togepi and chansey?
>>
>>36311147
Never really got the draw of shuckle myself
>>
>>36311093
>>36311112
I'm all for a balanced team, that's how i usually play, just askin'...
>>36311126
I was thinking more type-wise when a mentioned themes...I think in a setting like this (a lot more free than turn-based rpg) we should definitlly have varying body types (sizes and physical traits and what not)...
>>
>>36311250
Wait, claw isn't a type? All these years...
You could top it off with a Weavile
>>
>>36311201
he'd also be super powerful with a support pokemon that knew trick room.
>>36311217
well, he has the highest defense and special defense in the game. by far. which he can then switch with his attack and special attack, which is among the lowest. there are two other abilities he can learn that average his defensive stats and offensive stats, respectively, with the opponents. you can combo these for some neat tricks. But without a 4 move limit, he would be absolutely amazing.
>>
>>36311061
We'd really only need a theme if we became a gym leader, and that can really work against us. I'd rather us just grab our mons strategically. For example a quality flying type and a bug type to help cover our bases. Say a weedle and a pigey/ or maybe a Fletchling if we want a fire bird. Then maybe try for a gound/rock and a water and we're set.
>>
>>36311217
He's kinda stupid looking but he's also rare and fucking good, therefore people like him.

>>36311061
I was thinking we could get a bunch of "pet" pokemon.

We got a cat, a dog, we could get an Eevee, some kind of mouse... also i was thinking we could just focus on POWER pokemon, psychic does fucktons of damage, fire, dark, dragon maybe.
>>
>>36311289
no...just having a whole team of edward scissorhands seems like it might backfire on us once or twice...but maybe not with the rolls so far...
>>
>>36311340
if we need a bug type, we can always grab scyther or pinser.
>>
>>36311364
True but a beedrill is piss easy to get from a weedle and can be a nightmare when trained right. Im all for Scyther if Grey can find one, but something tells me we'll need a lot of luck, which isn't always here.
>>
>>36311364
Yeah, for bug types it doesn't get much better than a scyther (which would also later cover our steel side of things).

With Grey's tracking prowess we could probably head to the nearby forest and just straight up find one too
>>
>>36311340
understood...if we do end up becoming a gym leader first for fire/psychic...
>>
>>36311405
It literally is always here though.
>>
>>36311420
Yup then we can use a Victini to troll our opponents.

>>36311443
We've had a few rolls without it, nothing majorly bad yet though. Don't count on luck count on planning. having luck with planning is always welcome however. Just hedging bets as it were.
>>
>>36311483
We got +5 to our tracking though, perhaps more if our recent success with growlithe boosted it further. I'd say we honestly have a decent shot at it.
>>
>>36311512
True, Scyther first no doubt. IF that fails then we move on to weedle. To be honest i'd rather have scythe anyways. Then we'd need a bird and a water and a rock/ground to have a fairly decent team til dragons.
>>
>>36311560
speaking of dragons, who's the best dragon? my vote is on dragalge
>>
>>36311611
Flygon and Noivern are probably my favourites.
>>
>>36311560
>>36311512
>>36311419
If it's a scyther we want we should probably head north toward the more heavily forested areas...
>>
>>36311611
Salamence, Flygon, Charzard(yes I know only char x is dragon type but as a kid I olved that thing)
>>
>>36311652
noivern is pretty cool, and I like flygon's design, but can't stand its pre-evos. But for non legendaries, kingdra, dragonair, and tyrantrum are pretty cool
>>
>>36311657
That or head further west. Not sure what would be quicker, but if we went further west we could scout the grassy plains en route for our companions pokemans
>>
>>36311611
>>36311652
Druddigon...I like the whole absorbs sunlight through the leaf wings thing...
>>
>>36311611
A Tyrantrum would be pretty cool
>>
>>36311695
>>36311709
Speaking of Tyrants, Tyranitar. One of the best mons of all time.
>>
Am I the only one that wants pokemon with more personality than power?
>>
>>36311695
>>36311709
Tyrantrum is cool but I don't really consider it a dragon, it's just a t-rex. I mean, it doesn't even have wings, vestigial or otherwise. It's your regular four-limbed lizard with anger issues.

And as for badass dynopokes, >>36311716 Tyranitar really takes top position for me too.

Andddddd I'm back.

Question (and don't tear me a new asshole on this):

How do you guys feel about a few custommon / fakemon thrown in here and there? If you like it, let me know. If you hate it, definitely let me know.

Also, I'm really liking the discussion. Let me read through it real quick...
>>
>>36311736
Why not both?...every mons got its own style and personality...
>>
>>36311746
Unless you've really thought them out, they'll either be overpowered or nigh on useless. I'd rather not but i'd have no complaints if you execute it well.
>>
>>36311736
But... you can have both personality AND power...
I mean, I can see where you're coming from, but...

>>36311746
Depends on whether the customon is any good really, I've nothing against them in principle but I've seen some pretty bad ones...
>>
>>36311746
On the fence about it. post info on them before including them, I guess. Like I don't think I'd mind any from pokemon sage.
>>
>>36311746
I'm against it in general, but if done well I wouldn't tear you a new asshole.

If not done well, I know a guy who has a dildo named Girth.
>>
>>36311746
I'm not against the idea, as long as it's done tastefully.
>>
>>36311742
I think Tyranitar isn't technically a dragon pokeom, but he's good enough that typing doesn't really matter.

>>36311746
I'd rather not have custom mon.
>>
>>36311716
>>36311742
Yay other anons who love Tyranitar. Think we should aim for grabbing a Larvitar in the near future? Along with that Scyther?
>>
>>36311822
When we get the chance but it'll probably be a relatively late game thing I'd have thought
>>
>>36311746
not against it really...provided it's been thought out well...I like to come up with some sometimes too...but as other anons have said most can be pretty bad...
>>
>>36311746
I'm not completely against the idea, so long as it's thought out well. Like >>36311785 said, posting some info about them first might be best.
>>
>>36311822
while I love tyranitar, I'd rather put off grabbing pseudo legendarys till later in the game
>>
>>36311835
Well I don't see why it'd be difficult to get a Larvitar. anymore than grabbing a scyther would be. Its a good pokemon to balance out the team.

Growlithe
Scyther
Larvitar

What next?
I like Pigeot for our flyer
After that we'd need a Water type and what else?
>>
>>36311746
yeah, make a list of the ones you want to include, and throw up a survey monkey on it.
>>
>>36311895
You forgot Mittens anon, she aint going anywhere for a bit.
>>
>>36311895
Electric or fairy or poison?
>>
>>36311895
I say we get a Zubat for our flyer.

Crobat da best

>>36311819

Lol slipped my mind.

So if we decided to build a team and kinda stick with it

Meowstic (Mittens)
Arcanine (Apollo)
Scizor
Tyranitar

Then
Crowbat or Pigeot
I like both

For the Water type
Dragalge
or
Kingdra
sound interesting to me.
>>
>>36311951
Zubat is good, I like Zubat.
>>
>>36312004
Could always roll the good times with a Gyarados
>>
>>36312004
While I love all these pokemon, I'd rather we don't have a plan we build around. I think it would be more interesting if it was more random
>>
>>36312032
GYARADOS IS OUR FLYER!
>>
>>36312004
Dragalge is dragon poison so for water typing id pick Kingdra. We'd have to head to the ocean to nab though. That being said unless we hit 90+ consistently and maybe not even then we're going to deal with what we can get.
>>
>>36312055
We taught gyarados fly in pokemang quest, and then spent the rest of the game finding opportunities to show it off
>>
>>36312032
I think the funnest part of having a gyarados is training it from a defensless magikarp until it evolves into a rage beast with an unquenchable thirst for blood and vengeance for it's powerless past.

A scene unfolds before your eyes: A pair of Meowstic, solemnly crouched together, tails waving back and forth. They look proud, strong, and beautiful. They practically look regal. You get the distinct impression that they are Mittens’s mother and father. Feelings of admiration, sadness, and loss bleed into your consciousness.
The perspective on the scene swings about before coming to a stop and fully encompassing what appears to be a large, lavishly comfy room. A handful of tiny, purple Espurr mewl and play about the room – climbing on towers, fretting over bowls of milk, tossing about tiny toys. One in particular sits closer to the mother and father, playing with the edge of a large blanket. Where the other Espurr play and fight together, this one is alone. It is smaller than the others.
The scene does not swing about this time; instead, it shifts and twirls. Time passes very quickly. The Espurr grow, play, eat, and live. They disappear, one by one, as families come and adopt them. The Meowstic remain stoic and regal. The last Espurr remains tiny and lonely.

>cont.
>>
>>36312419

Finally, time slows back down. A family has come. Two parents, regal and important like the Meowstic; they hold the hands of a little girl, loud and demanding. The little girl wants an Espurr, she wants an Espurr so badly. She doesn’t care how tiny it is, or how tightly its ears are curled. She wants an Espurr now.
The scene fades away, revealing a new scene in a new house.

Feelings of anger, shame, and sadness bubble through.

You watch as the little girl plays with Mittens less and less. You know that it is Mittens: you can see it in her eyes, the markings on her fur, and the tightness of her tiny ears. It is well known that Espurr have an interesting relationship with their ears: they can be used as dampeners. Espurr that cannot make full use of their ears, like this young Mittens, are usually runts and less desirable.

One day, the little girl has become particularly frustrated. “Why won’t you grow up, you stupid cat? I’ll never be able to battle with you!” The little girl grabs at Mittens’s ears, and you feel her pain. “Why won’t you change your ears?! Change your ears, Pokémon! Change them NOW!”

You feel fear, shame, and desperation.

Mittens tries to flex her ears, to loosen her muscles, to move them – something, anything. She tries, and tries, and tries.

She succeeds.

The girl squeezes particularly hard, and Mittens’s ears shoot up. A bright purple light begins to glow about her tiny form, and a distortion surrounds the air around her. The little girl backs up, startled. Mittens feels elated for a second, but the pain is so bad. The pain, the pain, the…

A blast. A psychic wave fills the air around her, tossing the little girl to the ground.

Time shifts again. There is yelling, tears, an ambulance. Pain. Running. “Bad Pokémon. Bad Pokémon.”

The scene fades after that. Silence.

There is but the soft humming of Mittens’s consciousness with yours.

You call out to the darkness of this shared space. Your voice rings cold and hollow, somehow distorted. “Mittens…?” You can feel a tired sadness from her, even now.

“TrainerGrey….? Mittens… Mittens be good. Promise. Mittens sorry. Ears bad. Mittens bad. Mittens no hurt TrainerGrey.”

There is a lot of pain. Shame. Distrust. Towards herself? Towards you?

You, reaching out, try to fill her with feelings of happiness. Of love. Trust, hope, and pride. It’s like trying to warm a cold ocean with a small flame – and you’re not Apollo.

“Mittens, I know you’re not a bad Pokémon. You have been a very good Pokémon – a super partner, remember? I trust you, and I will never hurt you like that girl. She was bad, Mittens. Not you. She should have been patient, she should have helped you, like you helped Erica. I know you would never hurt someone intentionally like that, Mittens. You are a nice Pokemon. You are my friend.”

You think of hugs, of cuddling next to Mittens your first night together. You call up images of her small form after the fight with Vlad. You see her soft belly, rising and falling next to you as you fell asleep in the Trainer House. You call up images of her waddling in her youth. You go back to her battle against the Audino, and the way Erica smiled when Mittens hugged her in the Center's bed.

>cont.
>>
>>36312994

Warmth begins to return to the mindscape, and you see the light brighten and begin to fill up the space around you. What was once loneliness and despair becomes hope and kindness. “See? Your light is so bright in here, Mittens! You’re not a runt or a bad Pokémon – you are a big, bright star!”

“Light no Mittens, TrainerGrey. Light is Us.” You are confused on that, which she picks up on. “Light is you, TrainerGrey. Mittens have big light because you. Mittens want be good Pokémon for TrainerGrey. Mittens have good light with TrainerGrey.” You would smile if you could.

>>>>

You awaken with a bit of a start, Mittens still sitting near the top of your head. The two of you blink at each other for a bit, Mittens slowly lifting a paw and giving you a short wave. You smile, then quickly rise to sit on the ground. Wrapping your arms around her back you pull her into a hug. She nuzzles into your chest, paws clinging to your shirt and jacket. You gather up two tired little Pokémon. Mittens sits on your shoulders, her arms draped around your neck and her cheek resting against the back of your head. Apollo leads the way, a small fire burning around the nape of his neck to light the way. He sniffs the air occasionally in between yawning. There’s a moment of concern when he wanders off the trail, nose furiously tracking something.

>35

You follow after him, parting some bushes. When he comes back into view you see what he is sniffing at: some sort of pungent herb. You bring some to your nose, and it’s not… unpleasant. You lift some to Mittens’s nose and she perks up a bit and begins pawing at it.

>FOUND: Some Bushmint, which many Pokémon like the smell of. Dani can also use it to make a weak herbal tea, so you have that going for you, which is nice.

>>>>

You trundle your way back into the camp. Dani and Vlad are settled into a chair, a blanket thrown over their sleeping forms. You smile – she probably tried to stay up for you. From the sounds of snoring Erica is already asleep, but Mossimer is piddling around the edge of the campsite. Come to think of it, you don’t know if he sleeps…. Anyways.

You set to work throwing out some dinner for the three of you as quietly as you can. Mittens and Apollo enjoy various hunks of meat and little sips of soup, while you help yourself to a big steaming bowl and a hunk of bread. As you’re washing the dishes Dani stirs, wiping her eyes and then stretching. Her sleeping shirt is, ah… You cough and look away, trying to burn that image of tight fabric into your head for later.

“Hey, Grey. Mittens. Mm…. What’s your Growlithe’s name? Have you named him yet?”
You nod, still not risking turning around for fear of furious blushing. “Apollo.”

“I like it – like the sun, right? And that old… myth? Roman, yeah?”

“Greek, yeah.” You finished putting away the dishes before capturing up the cooking supplies and the leftovers. Can’t leave them around for hungry Ursarings…! “Well, you can head to bed. Thanks for… waiting up for me. That was, uh... really sweet." You cough a bit. "I’m gonna get dressed and head to bed myself. Long day tomorrow, you know!”

Dani just gives a"Mhm. Nighty night," and then picks Vlad up off the chair and carries him into her tent… Wait.

Why didn’t she go into Erica’s tent?

You cough violently.

You kneel down in the soft grass, your hands steepled and eyes shut. “Oh, Steven Stone… God of Gentlemen trainers everywhere… Please, give me the strength to survive this night!”

You swear that you hear the roar of a Metagross in the depths of the dark night. It’s probably your overactive imagination, but whatever.

You stand, steeling your heart and your eyes for the trials to come. Your mission? To retrieve your sleeping bag and pad without waking or disturbing Dani. The enemy? The gods of misfortune and embarrassment themselves.

>>>>

You’ll have to wash it off again, but you decided going overkill was necessary this time. You stand before the flaps of the Steelix-brand Tent, a bit of charcoal smeared under your eyes and a bandana tied around your head. You handed Mittens a flashlight, your dex to use as a radio, and a large spatula. She’ll be your backup. Apollo…. Apollo is sleeping. Good job, Apollo! Way to be a team player!

Focus.

You take a bit of cooking oil, sprinkling it on the zipper of the tent. Classic mistake – the noisy zipper. You pull it upwards, holding the flaps of the tent aloft as you do so. There is hardly a sound. Perfect. You whsiper into your wrist-communication device. "Liquid Grey to Solid Espurr. Come in. I have breached the tent." A soft mewl is your reply.

Slowly you make your way inside, and there she is: Dani. Her arms and legs are splayed across her sleeping bag, and…. You swallow hard, and fight back the urge to cough. Her clothes are loose in all the wrong places and tight in all the right places. Curse you, hormones!

FOCUS, Liquid Grey! You have a mission! You lightly slap yourself. “Back to business…” You kneel down, peeling up the sleeping pad and your sleeping bag with it. You inch it towards you, rolling them up messily but quickly. Almost there,… “Got it!”

With both items in hand you lean over and place them inside the tent. Then, you reach for your pillow, and…

The thing about cooking oil is that it makes zippers work smoothly, yes. But it also makes tent floors slippery.

You fall. You fall and you see your life flash before your eyes. A heartbeat. You catch yourself. Your muscles hold rigid, and you watch as a bead of sweat rolls down your nose. You hold your breath.

Silence. Nothing. All clear.

You move to get up, but…. When you move your hand its new placement is…. is on something so squishy…. Huh.

Also, Dani’s breath smells good… this… close. Was that a moan? Did Dani just... Oh.

When it hits you, all you can do is whisper “Shit.” Unfortunately, that finally pushes Dani over the edge and she stirs.

“Double shit.”

She stirs underneath you, eyes beginning to pry open. Think, Liquid Grey, think!

>100

You hear a clicking and stirring outside. Mossimer! You lurch onto your knees and shoot a hand outside the tent. Reaching, you manage to find a bulbous, slimy object. Mushroom? Mushroom.

You grab and pull Mossimer into the tent bodily. Holding him in both hands take a deep breath and then you start shaking furiously. Small spores catch the light as Mossimer squirms and thrashes in your hands. The spores fall, drifting slowly, as Dani takes a long, deep breath.

Her eyelids flutter, her breathing deepens. Then, finally, she falls asleep again. You’re saved. You clamber outside the tent into the cool night air.

You whisper as you set the angry insect down: “Sorry, Mossimer!” He shakes an angry claw at you and scuttles away.

>>>>>

Breakfast the next morning is simple reheated soup, meat, and oatmeal on the side. Dani handles most of it, delegating cutting up fruit to you and setting up the table to Erica. All in all it’s a simple albeit nice affair. It’s the first time all three of you have been able to sit down and really talk like this.

It gets a little embarrassing for you, though.

Dani speaks up, eyes on the table and spoon scraping against bowl idly.“So, Grey." You cough on your food. "You… slept in a third tent? You should have slept in one of the safer ones.”

You swallow loudly. “Yeah, I… uh. I didn’t want to bother you or make you uncomfortable.” You go into a mumbling sort of rambling, hoping that quantity of words may make up for quality at this point. “I had figured you were going to sleep with Erica and then I didn’t want to intrude if you had forgotten and…”

Dani cuts you off. “It’s okay. I’m sorry if I put you in a weird position. Erica just told me that she snored, and I’m used to sleeping next to people since I had to do so at the StanFah and on school camping trips… I, uh, didn't think you would mind. I should have asked you, though. I'm sorry.”

“O-oh, no. No, it’s okay. I… uh, hope you slept well.”

“Yeah! I slept really soundly, actually.” You just nod and shovel more food into your mouth.

Both of you slip into an awkward silence. You sit there, blushing, with thoughts running through your head.

Mittens intrudes upon your thoughts, though - giggling slightly. You ask her "what's so funny?"

"Dani funny. TrainerGrey funny. Dani want sleep next to TrainerGrey. TrainerGrey want sleep next to Dani. TrainerGrey steal sleepbag and make Mossimer mad!" The little Espurr sets into a mental giggle fit at that. You make a note to give Mossimer a badge of service sometime soon.

"TrainerGrey. TrainerGrey."

"What?"

"Dani like your butt!" You choke on your oatmeal. More kitten laughter.

The silent breakfast is interrupted as Erica sighs a bit. You and Dani look at each other, then back at your meals. Erica sighs again before quietly speaking over a mouthful of oatmeal, eyes drilling into her bowl. “So… Sleeping arrangements aside… We’re gonna catch some Pokémon, right?” Dani nods while sipping on some tea. You nod after wiping a heaping of soup off of your mouth. Erica looks up before continuing. “I’d like to get a flying type, and maybe a water type too. Help cover Mossimer’s weaknesses. What about you, Dani?”

Dani thinks on that for a moment before answering. “Well, I’d like to get an electric type. A water type is always good… Maybe something that can fight off dark types and psychics, since Vlad is weak to those." You and Erica nod in agreement.

Dani sets to tapping her spoon against her cup, thinking. "You know, I think we should all challenge the Jay City gym soon. I read that the gyms in this region scaled based on how many badges you have, you know? So, for us, the first gym shouldn’t be too tough. Also… I heard that this year they are doing ‘Survival Tests’ as the lead-up to the Leader battles. You have to complete a challenge or something.”

“Huh.” You lean back in your chair, thinking on that information. “Sounds like we should match battling strength with utility, then. I wonder what the tests will be like. Who’s the first leader, anyways?”

“Someone named Mashka, apparently. Doesn’t play to types, but style of battle I hear.”

“You getting this on the message boards?” Dani nods at that, and Erica throws in a “You can find a lot there!”

>>>>>

You pull out Erwin’s book, flipping to the page you marked containing information on the springs in the area that feed into the river. Pure, cold water. Secluded. Lots of fauna variety.

“Hey, guys?” Dani and Erica look up at you. Erica had been "brushing" Mossimer's fungi and spanish moss. Dani had been scrolling on her pokedex and chatting with Vlad. “We were talking about picking up some water types? Well, I think I know the first place we should start looking.

>71 (so close. Whew!)

You explain to the girls that scattered around the river are various springs producing cold, fresh water and that a lot of uncommon water types prefer those sorts of waters. It’s something that can’t be passed up. They agree, and you make your way west by southwest, following a local map of Erwin’s design.

>>>>

Within an hour you’ve made your way to the edge of what should be the springhead. You and Dani draw out a Netball each, and Erica elects to simply use the fishing rod and Mossimer to catch something herself. You? You’re going in for a hunt.
