You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

After being forcibly ejected from the kitchen, you made your way to the living room so that you could sulk in private (or maybe just to relax for a little while). It turned out that Rana was already in there, so you two shot the breeze for a little while until her constant innuendoes became too much for you.

From there, you rejoined Sir Gregory, who had just got finished showing Karel and the others his collection of pointy weaponry. And of course you took the opportunity to show off your own super awesome sword when Emilio gave you the opportunity to do so.

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a fearsome DIRE WOLF!
>Much larger than their the other types of wolf, the Dire Wolf's size also means that they are also that much more dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend!
>But while dire wolves are massive, they still don't -quite- stand on the same level as people.

Walking at a pace that might as well be a sprint, Sir Gregory practically leaves the rest of you in the dust as he makes his way to the kitchen to see if dinner is ready. But even though he's in a rush, the rest of you are in so such hurry to be fed.

"I wonder what Luciana's gonna cook..." Elena wonders out loud as she walks with the rest of you.
"Spaghetti," you reply. "At least that's what she told me before she threw mew out of the kitchen."
"Yay!" she says, smiling cheerfully.
"...I didn't know you liked spaghetti THAT much," Emilio says, turning to his little sister.
"It's good when Luciana makes it!"
"I certainly hope so..."
"By the way," you say, turning to Emilio, "you seem to be in a better mood than usual."
"Hm?" Emilio raises an eyebrow. "Maybe, I guess?" he shrugs.
"He's happy 'cuz he missed ME!" Elena boasts as as she jumps on her big brother's back.
"Yeah, but you're making me wonder why I ever did," he grumbles.

"C'mon, quit being all grumpy!" Elena says, laughing as her brother struggles to balance her on his back.
"That would be easier if you'd get off of me," Emilio grumbles.
"No way!" she shakes her head. "You're never around so I gotta get my piggyback rides while I can."
"You have Uncle Gregory for that," he sighs.

Realizing that he's not going to be able to get the little Princess off his back without outside assistance, Emilio turns to you.

"Reinhold, you mind helping me out here?" Emilio asks.
"Sorry, staying out of it," you reply. "I'm not about to interfere with your sibling bonding."
"...but you're gonna end up becoming my sibling soon enough, so why not bond with me by getting Elena off of me?"
"Too bad for you, Reinhold's on -my- side!" Elena laughs.

"Figures that you'd be on the girls' side..." Emilio mumbles. "Karel, would you mind?" he says, turning to his bodyguard.
"I don't have the upper body strength for that," Karel replies. "If I try pulling her off, she'd just end up falling on me instead."
"Hey, I'm not heavy!" Elena says, puffing out her cheeks.
"Yes. You. Are."

Emilio's steps are starting to slow down, it looks like the added little girl weight is getting to him. You're starting to feel guilty as you watch him struggle with each step.

"Seriously, Elena..." Emilio growls. "Get. Off."

He might not be a bad ruler if he got some more confidence and experience. But he's got a fair number of older siblings who come before him so its not going to happen. He could probably make a good diplomat or something like that.

Niklaus is one of the smartest, though he's also a bit insane.

Luciana is probably the most intelligent one around Reinhold's age, and she's certainly the most calculating.

Once he finishes cracking his knuckles, Guillaume walks backwards for a few steps before breaking into a full sprint. Both you and Karel back away on instinct as the blonde-haired boy leaps into the air... and onto Elena's back.

"Both of you," Emilio growls, "get off ofKHA-"

Elena's hands hit Emilio right in the throat, choking him.

And then his knees buckle underneath him, sending the two kids on his back crashing on top of him.

"Oh crap..." you mutter under your breath as you run over to where Emilio's collapsed on the ground with Guillaume and Elena on top of him. "Emilio, are you alright?"
"...bih mah hung..." Emilio mumbles.
"Hold on, we'll help you back up," you say as you and Karel both take a hand and pull him out from under the others.
"hanks," he says, holding a hand to his mouth once he's regained his balance. "hiyaume, ahm honna kill yoo..."

With Emilio back to his feet, you turn to Elena, who's trying (and failing) to kick her cousin off of her.

"Why'd you have to do that, you stupid jerk!" she growls as she struggles to get herself out... and then you simply reach down and lift her into the air.
"C'mon, no fighting," you say as you place her back on the ground.

"Yeah, I know I messed up," he mumbles. "I was stupid and Emilio got hurt for it."

Reluctantly, Guillaume walks over to his cousin.

"Sorry for knocking you over and making you bite your tongue," Guillaume says.

"Umm..." Melanie looks in the direction of the kitchen. "It doesn't feel right for me to just wait here so I think I'll go help with the preparations."
"You don't have to do that," Sir Gregory replies. "When you're here at least, you don't have to think of yourself as a maid."
"Yeah," Nicolette says, patting her on the shoulder.
"I know, but well..." she smiles weakly, "I -want- to help."

And with that, Melanie rises from her seat and makes for the kitchen. Nicolette tries to follow after her, but Sir Gregory grabs her hand before she can get very far.

"YOU can sit down," Sir Gregory says asw he holds his daughter in place. "We don't need a repeat of the last time you tried to 'help.'"
"C'mon, I was like ten when that happened!" Nicolette groans.
"Yeah, and it's been a pleasant six years since then," he replies. "Let's try and keep the record going."

With a gloomy look on her face, Nicolette returns to her seat next to you.

"Yeah, well I was already kicked out of there once tonight so I'm not trying to push my luck any further."
"Yeah, I'd hate for you two to get into another fight, especially considering how the last one ended."

Sir Gregory's interest seems to be piqued by that little statement.

Before you're able to get into specifics, Ariane emerges from the kitchen with a beaming smile on her face.

"As per the conditions of our dear Reinhold's request, tonight's dinner has been prepared by Princess Luciana Violetta di Marconetti, all by herself! Neither I nor Guillaume helped her cook this meal in ANY way!"

"It's better than anything that YOU could ever cook," Luciana replies as she and Melanie come out of the kitchen carrying several plates. "I look forward to seeing you eat your words in a few minutes."
"No fighting at the table, you two," Ariane says as she walks over to her nephew and bops him on the head with a wooden spoon.

That one got a laugh out of both Elena and Karel.

Once everyone's settled down, Guillaume, Luciana and Melanie go about serving everyone their food- massive plates of delicious-smelling spaghetti. You want SO badly to devour it the second that Luciana places it in front of you, but those pesky manners that were beaten into you as a child keep you from doing just yet since not everyone has been served yet.

And after all TWELVE people at the table have been served, Luciana finally takes her seat next to you.

"Yeah, yeah..." Emilio says, rolling his eyes as he twirls his fork in the pasta and raises a forkful to his mouth.

Pretty much everyone at the table is taken aback by Karel's sudden exclamation, with the exception of Ariane.

Luciana's dinner is a success, with everyone at the table enjoying their food and even getting seconds (or thirds, in the case of Nicolette and Sir Gregory.) Though Melanie tries to take care of the dishes once everyone's done, Ariane manages to convince her that she can take care of that herself.

Once everyone's finished eating, everyone disperses to wherever it is that they like to hang out after dinner... with the exception of you and the other guests.

"I guess we ought to get going," Emilio says. "I want to be fully rested for that lake trip tomorrow."
"Yeah," Karel nods. Are you gonna ride with us, Melanie?"
"Yes," Melanie replies. "I have my own preparations for tomorrow, and I'd like to check on the Princess as well."

Then she turns to you.

"You wanted to talk to Nicolette before we left, right?" Melanie asks.
"Uh, yeah," you nod. "Go on ahead to the carriage, I'll meet you guys there."
"Okay," she nods.

As the others make their way outside, you head to the living room where Nicolette's sprawled on the couch. It looks like she's trying to get some of that massive amount of food she ate digested before she gets back up.

Wel that would be a horribly assholish move seeing as we've both just enjoyed a meal prepared by Luci and that she's probably in the next room and thinks we were discussing the possibility of marriage with her and that Nico's happy with her relationship with Melanie.
So yes, that would be the in character time for Rein to play that card.

"Hey," Nicolette says, waving to you from her lounging position. "What's this thing you wanted to talk to me about? Is it, uh..." she starts blushing, "...proposal stuff?"
"N- no!" you stammer. "I'm not even thinking abut-" you sigh. "It's about Marianne."
"Oh," she says, a disappointed from on her face. "So what happened, did you do something to piss her off again?"
"No," you shake you head. "But she told me that my usual gifts of cakes aren't going to work in every situation, so uh..."
"You want to know what else you can do?" she asks.
"Pretty much," you nod.

With a loud grunt of exertion, Nicolette forces herself upright in the couch.

"She is right, though..." Nicolette says, sighing. "That -is- kind of your go-to for whenever you fuck up."
"Yeah, "I've noticed that," you reply.
"So maybe you could quit doing so much stupid shit?" she says, shrugging. "Because seriously, it's like you don't have any common sense at all sometimes. And if you're not pissing people off then there won't be any reason for you to have to apologize, you know?"

"Yeah, I guess," you say, shrugging.
"I would say to buy her stuff that has to do with her hobbies, but that's the same basic problem as you buying cakes all the time," Nicolette says. "You just throw money at the problem until it's fixed, and that means a lot less when you're dealing with a Princess."

She does have a point there.

"So, uh..." she scratches her head, "maybe try and fix whatever problem that you caused in the first place? You know, try to make up for the exact thing that you fucked up. It means more when you put the extra effort in, you know?"
"I guess," you nod.
"Or maybe draw her a cute picture. Marianne likes that kind of stuff WAY more than she lets on."
"I'll keep that in mind, thanks," you nod.
"So I think that's about it," she sighs. "and that advice goes for EVERYONE, not just Marianne."

Having gotten the advice that you asked for, you bid Nicolette farewell and hurry to the carriage. Though your delay was for a pretty good cause (in your opinion , anyways), you do feel kind of bad about making the others wait like this.

And of course they're already inside the carriage when you get there. Since Karel and Emilio are on one side, you take a seat next to Melanie.

For the rest of the ride back to the castle, you find yourself kind of on edge... you're half-expecting Sir Gregory to go flying past you at any second, but that doesn't happen and you make it there without incident.

Just a lot of embarrassment.

Upon arriving at the castle gate, you leave the carriage first and help Melanie down... or so you thought, but she jumps out of it just like she did when you got to Sir Gregory's mansion. Once the two of you are out of there, Emilio and Karel follow close behind.

"Well," Melanie smiles, "it was nice to get to spend some time with you all."
"Yeah," Emilio nods. "Nicolette seems to have pretty good taste in girls..." he says, laughing nervously. Melanie seems just as nervous to hear that compliment.
"God night," she says. "I'll be seeing the three of you tomorrow!"

"Your rooms are like directly above mine so I figured that we might as well walk together," you say.

As you walk, Emilio goes on about how he heard that it;s really cold out by large bodies of water this year so he'll be dressing warm during tomorrow's trip. Karel, on the other hand, only replies with grunts and "mmmhmm"s. This continues all the way upstairs.

Before she has a chance to get away, you reach over to Karel and pull her into a tight hug. She instinctively tries to break free a first, but then she just kind of relaxes in your embrace.

"It'll be fine, don't worry," you say.
"You just say that 'cuz you're already friends with everyone," she mumbles.
"I mean it," you reply. "Sir Gregory isn't anywhere as bad as you're thinking, the worst he'll do tomorrow is tease you about being a girl. Or show up at your door with Adrien all tied up."
"Yeah right..."

After Karel's finally calmed down some, you let go of her and head for the door.

"Really, it'll be fine," you say.
"I hope so," she mumbles. "I'll fucking kill you if everything goes to shit, you know that right?"
"It won't be an issue," you say as you walk out the door. "See you tomorrow!"

I'd meet death in her embrace with a smile

After leaning Karel's room, you make a beeline for your own. Extremely tired from the day's events, you take off your jacket and walk over to your desk to hand it on its usual spot... where you find an envelope on your desk.

"Huh," you say as you pick it up, "I didn't send..."

And then you open it. Inside the envelope is a short message.

"Citrine Lanzmann has confirmed that she will be attending tomorrow's trip to Lake Vincent."

And on that high note, you quickly finish up putting away your clothes and hop in the bed. Tomorrow's already looking up!

I'm not taking advice from a fucking Iop.

And with that, I end this thread and this in-game day. It was another fun one, and I look forward to what's coming next.

The next thread ewill be sometime necxt week, as I have a paprt to write and have yet to start on it. I'll probably be running on Tuesday at the latest, though.

Whenever the next thread runs, it'll be False Dendrite.

And now I take questions.

Thanks for running, Arch

Thanks Arch

Thanks for the thread Arch. I love when I'm actually hear for the entire duration.

Has anything of note occurred in Dragonistan with Lisette and Chiara, and does Lisette make anything of the similarities between Rein and her brother? Would that be a good thing or a bad thing?
>>

Hey Arch, would naming conventions among commoners be "Blank, son of Blank" and "Blankette, daughter of Blankette"? With Last names going to people in the Middle Classes.

If so, would Reinhold's name have been "Reinhold, Son of None."
>>
>>36323531
If they don't know who his parents are and no one adopts him he should just be "Reinhold", anything else is simply silly.
>>
>>36323497
Cheers.

If you had to sacrifice one of the three additional routes (Karel, Melon, Rana), which one would it be?

>Has anything of note occurred in Dragonistan with Lisette and Chiara,
They've had some minor adventures, but nothing that I really have the time to show in-quest. Sorry.

>and does Lisette make anything of the similarities between Rein and her brother? >
She doesn't know Reinhold well enough to notice anyrhing along those lines.

>Would that be a good thing or a bad thing?
She'd immediately give Luciana advice about how to manipulate him into doing what she wants.

Nope, peasant-types in this area lack last names entirely. Some of them even go so far as to make up a last name to give themselves, but Reinhold's not one to do that.

Rana.

I'm really tired so it's sleeping time for me. Thanks for playing!

How many ends would you like each route to have?

He introduced himself as "just Reinhold" to Vincent in thread #001, so unless his first name is Juste...

Sex?

"But daddy, I don't like him!"
"Oh, okay"
>Dangerously close
>>
>>36324112
Luciana would have gone through with it just to please her poppy and Celestino would have been none the wiser.
>>
>>36324144
If he WAS none the wiser, would it at least cause him shadowruns?

Thought process on why Rein solved things how he did. "Never had money before...or people giving me gifts. It was kinda my last resort thing since it hardly ever happened. Now it's just easier."
>>
>>36324513
Prolly a reverse of what Nico said.
Throwing your seemingly unlimited bags of money at something isn't that effective when you're dealing with a princess.
Throwing the few pennies you've scraped together to get something, ANYTHING nice for your abused, prostitute not-sister is a lot more heartfelt.
It's just a part of him that hasn't adapted to fancy life living until now.
>>
>>36324586
The weird part is that Thierri is encouraging that stuff. Who should we listen to?
>>
>>36324513
>>36324586
Yeah, Rein can't into social stuff.
>>
>>36324625
Thierri's encouraging "GIFTS FOR EVERYONE, WHATEVER THE WEATHER" not gifts specifically as a means of apologizing.
>>
>>36324661
You're right, I hadn't noticed that.
