Your stealth corvette drifts through the medium of interstellar space, patiently waiting for signs of the shuttle at the designated point under the cover of its cloak. It continues to wait through the day, but eventually you detect something. There is a burst of radiation in the distance and an object now drifts with your ship through the void of space. You watch it from a distance. A single small, unmanned rocket by the looks of it, tumbles slowly through the great nothingness around you.

Elsewhere in your hive you monitor the goings on of numerous activities. Your pods sit cloaked in the orbits of many Union worlds, keeping a close eye on their activities. Elizabeth has continued to work on the strange Skyl computer console, and now seems quite familiar with their computer technology.
You find Lyle in a bar. Your parasite is having trouble keeping up with his alcohol intake.

Welcome back to Hive Queen Quest!

>Algae Farm – +100N per day, 1 worker to maintain
>Hangar Expansion – Add on to current hangar facilities for your choice of +40 aero/fighter drone space, or +20 shuttle space. 50N 100M
>Anti-orbital battery – A bunker armed with a massive Particle beam capable of attacking ships in orbit from the ground. It includes the power and sensor systems required to operate it. 250N 1500M
>Docking Pylon – A large spire or station that contains space for docking and construction of 4 ships, or a single capital ship if placed in orbit. 100N 300M
>Surface to Orbit Missile System – This massive bunker complex houses a wide range of warheads and a nigh limitless number of missiles within its protective walls, allowing you to launch missiles against approaching invaders from the safety of your hive. The facility uses the ship missile stats and comes equipped with a single Cruise missile silo that can target any detected object within the system, five Stinger missile silos capable of targeting any craft within high orbit, and ten Swarm missile silos specialized in targeting high altitude aircraft and low orbiting targets. The facility itself is a massive complex spread out over several miles, and includes guidance and launch equipment, as well as the means to construct and maintain a stock of warheads and missiles. Your corvette watches the Valen shuttle tumble lazily through space as its radio beacon crawls its way outward at the speed of light. It's not much of a beacon, simply broadcasting its own existence to anyone who could hear it, which would be you. The tiny shuttle is almost the size of one of your pods, and doesn't seem to have any windows or crew compartments, or even power beyond the meager amount used to broadcast its beacon.

>Warhead types: All missiles contain a warhead of some kind which determines the general effect of the missile itself. The price of a missile is based on its size and warhead. All prices are listed as the cost of a Stinger, with Cruise missiles costing 2x and Swarm missiles costing .25 of listed price. If the warhead is available for both ships and drones, the prices are listed for each.

>Atomic: A multi-kiloton thermonuclear device, the exact payload depends upon the size of the missile. These can only be launched from ships or from silos. The warhead detonates when within proximity of the target and deals tremendous amounts of thermal and explosive damage within its blast radius, and a moderate amount of energy damage to anything in a much wider radius, disrupting sensors and exposed electronics with a powerful EMP that can travel for several million kilometers before dispersing. Detonating over a planet can cause ion storms, dealing damage to exposed infrastructure, while bombarding a planet will douse the impact area with radiation, causing long term damage to the local ecosystem. (100N 100M)

Pod 60N 50M + Stealth field 5N 15M + Cruise-tier atomic warhead 200N 200M + Thinker 6N =

271N 265M for a Kamikaze Pod for first strikes, to catch the enemy unawares.

Wait, how do the Cruise/Sting/Swarm tier atomic warheads map to the Union's classification of 8-, 20-, and 50-megaton warheads?

Any ground-based defenses on Leeland are essentially undetectable, all the time, until someone does a proper land-invasion. This is a valuable thing.

>or even power beyond the meager amount used to broadcast its beacon.

Wait, the shuttle surely has FTL capabilities on board. It got here, after all. It didn't arrive at sublight, considering that "burst of radiation in the distance" in OP. Right?

It must have at least a warp drive, even if it doesn't have a quantum power tap to go very fast. It probably has an FTLComm too.

>>
>>36357531
There's no reason we can't get all these suggestions. We're floating considerable amounts of nutrients and metals.
>>

It's probably got an FTL comm so the customer can confirm receipt of product but sublight thrusters and is carried by a larger ship.

Your corvette moves in close, and a team of vacuum workers drift quickly to the hull and cleanly slice it open. Within is a single box, and a cheap radio. Your workers smash the radio and take the crate back into your corvette, leaving the shuttle to drift. You do note to your interest that the shuttle seems to lack any FLT drive of its own, although it definitely arrived via some form of faster than light travel. It makes you rather curious as to how Valen gates actually function.

"You have pressing matters to attend to. If you are here poisoning yourself and your gifts to death, then you must be finished with your other business here."

Lyle takes a small tablet from a nearby bowl and sniffs it loudly before tossing it into his mouth. The mint quickly dissolves as he tries to speak.
"Yea yea." With a practiced motion so rote, even his stupor doesn't seem to disrupt it he slips a small fake patch of skin over his thumb and swipes it over the counter. There is a small jingle of sound as the counter displays his purchase, as well as the words "Thank you for your purchase, Mr. Forester!"

Lyle moves from the stool, and quickly begins to gain a sober state as your parasite filters out the alcohol. By the time he has reached the middle ward he feels only a light buzz, much to his displeasure.

Lyle moves to a skip in the half gravity of the middle ward. The inner ward was used mostly for industry and trade, where the low gravity was useful, the lower ward held most of the habitats, hotels, restaurants, and other daily activities that required or were made more simple with earth gravity. The middle ward contained mostly mercantile business, trade offices, shops, and tourism focused activities that used the half gravity as a kind of attraction for planet-dwelling 'groundhogs', as they were sometimes called. Tourists who have never left the surface of their world and bumble around in the microgravity like drunken sorority girls, giggling at their clumsiness. Several passed by, still trying to maintain a natural gait as they fought against the weight of their oversized fanny packs.

Lyle doesn't respond, but you spot a small entertainment store in the corner of his eye.

"Return to your ship quickly, you have much to do. The workers will warm up your engines." You say.

"Like hell they will." He snaps back. Your figure simply laughs as it fades away.

"Then you should hurry."

He doubles his pace down the cramped road of plastic and polished steel. It takes him several minutes to move through the various stairways and elevators to reach the central docking ring. He returns to the ship in time to see a worker standing over the flight controls, its claw hovering over several dials.
"You get away from that, damnit!" The worker whips its head to face Lyle as he leaps the distance from the hatch to the seat and shoves the worker away. "Alright, I'm hurrying. Happy?"

The worker clacks its mandibles together. The thought briefly skims over Lyle's mind. Yes, actually, it is rather happy.
"Get back in the hold!" He says with a quick jab of his finger, "and stay there, I don't need any of you little nutters bouncing around during reentry."

Lyle turns back to the console as the worker bounces its way down the hall. With the flip of several switches the canopy clears and the engines come to life with a muffled hum. An automated countdown begins on one of the screens as the ship waits for clearance from the station's control tower. The countdown hits zero and with a tremendous clang the ship is released from its clamps and pushed lightly out into space.
A worker sprawls across a room, slamming into something that collapses from the blow with a crunch. As the ship drifts out it manages to strap itself into a nearby seat.

You watch as the Angel accelerates outward towards Jupiter. As the ship reaches a sufficient velocity Lyle flips a switch and the cloaking field activates, and the Angel whips back towards Earth orbit.

The Earth itself is covered in a dense debris field, making any proper scan of the surface impossible. The planet has a single, thick ring, as well as a dense cloud of scrap and garbage. Pieces of ships, stations, tools, discarded or forgotten equipment, all of countless ages from the dawn of man's voyage into space to the relics of the end of the Colony Wars. A hull chunk drifts by within visual range in high orbit decorated with the crest of the Confederation, an eagle trailing a flowing cape of stars as it carries a bundle of arrows in one talon and a bundle of wheat in the other.

"Ok. What's the plan? We're already close enough to be popped on sight, and any closer and we'll probably need some rad suits, though I'm not pickin' up anything yet, probably blocked by all this shit." Lyle speaks to nobody in particular.

"Can't get a good reading through all the junk."

"Then move closer."

Lyle rubs his temples with his fingers. "Course. Earth orbit is only a radioactive blender, I'll just wander the fuck on in. Sure. Why not? God damn!" He adjusts the ship's course to move closer and it quickly enters a course to put it into a closer orbit. The density of debris quickly increases.

The ship moves along as the proximity sensors blair. Hundreds upon thousands of specs and chunks of debris fly past too fast to see with the eye as larger chunks drift by the canopy. Tiny satellites of gold foil tumble like the crumpled refuse of a packed lunch. Bolts, thermal blankets, and bulky screwdrivers speed past, punching fist sized holes into the ancient debris of communication and entertainment satellites, or bouncing off the bulkhead of a Confederate warship and sent spiraling in a new direction.

The ship jerks hard to the side and several more alerts fill the screens along the dash.

"Fuck!" Lyle shouts as he brings the ship back into a stable descent. "That was the goddamn radio!"
The rear camera focuses in on the shattered remains of the radio transmitter as it tumbles away, mangled with the remains of a small fist sized box covered in broken cameras and shattered solar panels.

"Ok, I think we should be better off at this orbit." He says as he activates several thrusters to stabilize the ship in a shallow and unstable orbit. The remains of a small shuttle tumbles down to the ground several thousand kilometers away, igniting like an ember cast from a torch.

The sensors quickly scan the first few sites, each one brings back a similar reading. Low levels of radiation. The Angel drifts over the planet as it scans the rest of the sites until you reach the last one.
"Still got nothin." Lyle says, but he's wrong. Your relay within the ship detects something very faint coming from the largest of the marked craters. You look up its location on a map of Earth given by Theseus. The crater is on the North American continent, near the southern edge of the shor line.

"Ok, this is weird." Lyle says as he manipulates several sensor controls. "This whole planet is supposed to be an irradiated hellhole, but I'm not really detecting much radiation outside of the impact sites."

"Land here." You say, his finger moving to highlight the center of the massive crater.
"What the fuck is there?"
"That's what you will find out."

Lyle shuts down the thrusters and the ship quickly dives into the atmosphere. The ruins of ancient cities tower over the ground, all of them tilted in the same direction. Eventually the ship reaches a shallow incline, and the forest below dips into a massive crater that seems to stretch across the horizon, long ago filled in with vegetation. The overgrowth slowly tapers to a lake near the center where runoff water has collected and the remains of trees and plant refuse drift along the surface.

The Angel arcs over the lake as your flies dive from the ship in search of a proper landing spot. One is found several miles away.
"God damn parking." Lyle grumbles as he jerks the Angel to the side and brings it into the clearing with a loud squelch as the landing gear is enveloped in swampy mud.

"Fuckin swamps. Nothing but humid fields of shit and swarms of bugs." Lyle says as he finds his environment suit. He looks over to a passing worker in shock.

"What the fuck did you do to my suit?"

"You were stabbed, doused with acid, partially eaten, and shot numerous times. Your suit required repair." You say simply. He continues to grumble as he dons the suit and hits the button to open the cargo bay door. Your drones run off, the warriors leaping from tree to tree with their wings, and your workers skittering through the mud.
Lyle jumps down from the ramp and lands in the waste deep swamp. "Better be something good at the end of this fuckin rainbow of yours."

Your flies move out in all directions to scout ahead, your warriors quickly follow from treetop, and your workers move with ease through the swamp as they scuttle through the water, their heads poking up above the surface as they move in on the center of the crater.

You watch as Lyle falls into a sinkhole as he gives chase. "I fucking hate swamps, damn piece of shit!"

Your flies quickly zero in on the trace of radiation. It seems to be coming from near the center of the lake, beneath the water and the drifting refuse. Your warriors close in around the lake, their wings buzzing loudly as they leap from branch to branch, and your workers have hauled themselves up to the top of the tangled roots of the trees as Lyle fights his way through the vines. A large scaled creature leaps up from the murky waters, its toothy maw snapping at him. He quickly punches it from simply reflex, and his fist passes clear through the animal's torso and sends it flying, landing with a snap against a tree.

He lightly shakes his wrist in the muddy water. "Well, that's new." He says.

Your workers leap into the lake and dive below. They are certainly not quite the best of swimmers, but even without a dedicated adaptation they can hold their breath long enough.

Their clacking paints a picture of the lakebed. Twisted, gnarled branches fill the space below, and deep under the soft soil you sense a slight psionic energy. Your workers try to find it, digging in the silt as they take turns returning for air. It is slow work.

Lyle finally makes it to the lake itself. Leeches cover the plates of carapace. As he slowly picks at them, ripping them off of the armor plates one by one he snaps to attention, his rifle raised.

"something's watchin us." He says with a whisper.

"And you didn't notice the animal until you stepped on it?" You ask. He hushes you and focuses on several areas with his gaze.

Lyle stairs into the treeline of the swamp and several flies zip into the brush. The faint images of their sight floats at the top of his mind. He sends them instructions on where to go without any conscious thought being made to direct them, and they send him data on what they find.
"Wait, go back... shit!" Lyle drops down into the water as a fly passes a simple lump of brush. Only after he dives for cover it seems to get up, brandishing a rifle of some kind, and open fire on your drones.
"Who the fuck actually lives in this shit hole?" He yells as he drags himself under the roots of a tree, quickly moving along the side of the waterline.

Several rounds find their mark and bounce off of your warriors. They turn to the trees as your flies mark several more of the hidden figures as they move through the swamp. You count six in all, likely more hidden elsewhere.

Why don't we improve the Queen? I think QM mentioned in like the first thread that we could ball up into a cocoon and improve ourselves with the adaptions we've evolved. Doing so might improve our overall game, like maybe upgrading psychic sensory stuff or maybe adding a quantum chip.
>>
>>36362435
That's RUDE thinking. For shame.
>>
>>36362481
There is zero reason to change ourselves. Everything that we could change to ourselves we can just build near us.
>>
>>36362481
Most of the stuff we have is really only useful on warriors, workers, or the like. Any other upgrades we have are things that are just less powerful versions of queen abilities for drones.
>>
>>36362481
A what? What even are those things you're proposing? Besides, we can just cut and paste adaptations now so there's no point with the cocooning thing.

There's also no point generally.

There may be upgrades we want to give her in the future. There's just nothing better than she has/practical or useful for her to have right now.
>>
>>36362224
Your warriors open fire, tearing at the trees with their weapons. You clearly have superior firepower, but you also know all too well the value of knowing the terrain. Several more rounds bounce off of your warriors, one of which manages to land in a joint.

"Try not to kill them." You say. Lyle's jaw drops in bewildered amazement.

"Now's the time you want to play nice? Fucking hell." He slings his rifle to his back and the strap tightens, the storage grips latching onto the weapon and holstering it snugly against the armor plates. "Fine, but no promises."

Psionic: Ability to detect and transmit thoughts, emotions, and sensations instantaneously via tachyon transmission.
Basic: Detect and emit thoughts via tachyon particles. Coverage can cover most of a continent. (free, all drones must have this to be controlled.)
Moderate: The same variant as the queen. Can receive and transmit thoughts over vast distances. Coverage can cover most planets with ease, and reach into low orbit. Is free for the Queen only. (50N)
Advanced: A powerful FTL communication system that can beam thoughts to any other advanced relay regardless of distance. (200N 250M)

I was just looking at this and to me, it implies the Queen has medium and not advanced. If we improved that, it might enhance our over all control. Also, we could add a quantum brain to possibly grant bonuses to our warriors while we watch through them.

She was born with an equivalent or superior to the quantum brain, so no.

An advanced relay will in no way give the queen better control because she can seamlessly connect to the one sitting basically right next to her at no penalty. Also consider that the psionic disrupter can affect entire Advanced relay systems if it gets hooked up. 'Upgrading' would actually make the queen more vulnerable to being personally disabled by enemy psionic disruption.

We don't have many defenses so our chances of survival are somewhat slim

Nothing short of culling entire colonies is going to provoke the Union into rallying a fleet to wipe us out. They're spread thin as is, and are dealing with Ceph pirates, the Commonwealth, and our homocidal AI buddy. At worst they'd be arsed into sending the Texas and a few frigates, but a couple of stealth pods with nukes would sort them out.
>>
>>36362846
Of course we'd have red fur. We're the Red Queen. Of course, I think historically queens just changed whatever color they were instead of doing anything major. Like, the gardener didn't make herself tree-bark, just her drones.

>>36362996
Yeah.

Docking Pylons are extremely cheap, and we have a planet that is completely off the human's radar, the Waystation world in the nebula.

We can set up a colony there and build probably dozens of orbital docking pylons. They cost a lot less than ships do, and it's best we remove the current production bottleneck of not being able to shit starships very fast.
>>
>>36363031
Luckily, we live in the center of a macroorganism psychically bound to our will. That is also our child. We're kind of weird. My point is, the only way anything gets to the queen without getting shitstomped by warriors is by being so overwhelmingly powerful no matter how we upgraded the queen it wouldn't matter.

I've been messing around with ship designs. Carriers are very expensive. As a rule of thumb, a a dedicated carrier will cost 4X as much nutrients as a ship of the next size up. Very expensive, and very high upkeep. But with the right mix of fighter armaments they can be very effective; I've been fitting my designs with autocannon for interceptor work and plasma lances for anti-shipping capability.

Your workers force them to move to cover, ripping into the trees and spraying the area with chitin slugs. Lyle rushes in along the side of the hail of fire using your flies for direction. He quickly closes in on the closest of the strange people. He is a lanky looking man standing a full head over Lyle and covered in an elaborate garb of sewn together foliage and animal skins. His rifle looks ancient and homemade, fashioned and refashioned from repeatedly repaired metal pieces and wrapped in layers of furs and knuckle bone charms. He swings it like a club and it breaks as Lyle swings a blade from his arm across the weapon and it shatters into pieces, the barrel snapping against the blade. He quickly retracts it and places several quick jabs on the man's torso to the sounds of bones snapping, and he drops against a log gasping in desperation.

Another drops from the canopy and wraps his arms around him in a grapple. He shouts in a strange language and another turns to them. Lyle brings the back of his head against the man's sternum as his blades unsheath from the elbows and plant themselves in the man's arms. He screams in pain as Lyle turns around and brings a palm to his face, shattering the cheek and sending him sprawling out against a tree. He turns in time to see the third native raising his rifle, and Lyle kicks off against the roots at his feet, sending him into the air and bringing him back down on top of the panicked local.

"I said-"

"Damnit I know, and I said no promises."
He plucks the rifle from the man's hands and snaps it in two with his fist. He throws it like a tomahawk and you watch as another of the locals drops screaming over a bleeding gash in his arm.

Your flies watch as the remaining begin to flee, yelling to each other in their strange language.

I was mostly using the battleship as an example for comparison, but if you would look at my post closely you will notice that the battleship is cheaper than the assault carrier, at least in the long run. The battleship is mostly metal, thus has a low upkeep, while the carrier battle-cruiser is mostly nutrients and has an upkeep HIGHER than a battleship's nutrient cost.

We shouldn't need a carrier bigger than as Strike Carrier for a while anyways.

Your flies zoom past Lyle as he investigates the bodies. Two are dead, one is sprawled out over a log clutching his chest in agony in shallow gasps, and another bleeds from the arm as he tries in vain to remove the wood and metal rifle fragment that has pinned him to a tree by his bicep.

"See? Alive. More or less." Lyle says as he walks up to the pinned man. The man's screaming increases as Lyle slowly walks up to him, the warriors buzzing in behind him, and with a hefty and obviously painful tug he pulls himself free. He swings the rifle piece at Lyle, who quickly catches it tears it from his grip, snapping the arm at the elbow in the process.
"Fuckin' cunt, stay down or I'll break the other." He says as the club of metal and bone cracks in his grip, then breaks in two.

The man cradles his arm as it twitches in agony.

Your flies continue to pursue the swamp men, but they have already lost two in the dense foliage. They know the swamp well, and it shows in their movements.

"Ok, so I managed to not kill them all, now what?" Lyle asks.
What indeed?

>>
>>36364148
Doubtful. Neutrinos have nothing to so with psionics.

>

Neutrinos do not carry electric charge, which means that they are not affected by the electromagnetic forces that act on charged particles such as electrons and protons. Neutrinos are affected only by the weak sub-atomic force, of much shorter range than electromagnetism, and gravity, which is relatively weak on the subatomic scale. Therefore a typical neutrino passes through normal matter unimpeded.

TL;DR/layman's terms: They're particles which have so little mass, they may as well not have mass at all.

It's surface is smooth like glass, and from the sound of it is quite large. Like a building of some kind, sealed into a massive stone. Theseus is eagerly awaiting your news when you send a packet of data regarding your vague map of the strange object.
"Will you be able to extract it?"

"That will take time." You say as you send the rest of the data.

"Please, attempt to gain entry into the object."

"Why did you suspect this area specifically?"

"That is a matter of much debate." He says. "It is commonly believed that the moon was struck by a stray weapon, which impacted a facility that ignited enough atomic munitions to destroy the moon, dousing the Earth in toxic radiation and bombarding it with irradiated debris. The details of the incident, however, have always remained hidden from public view. No recording exists that shows the events unfold, only still images or recordings of the aftermath."

Said images and recordings flash across your mind. All of them show the moon in drifting chunks, but there is nothing depicting the detonation itself, or of the battle prior. He continues, "I suspect remains of this facility may yield interesting information, especially regarding various accounts from the battle itself. None of the statements are first hand, or very credible, but when parallels were discovered between these accounts and the data regarding these entities, I felt a proper investigation was in order."

Other images come into your view, this time they are from some cheap looking entertainment show. An old man speaks with a smiling man with wild eyes and a long coat about what he refers to as a lunar death ray. Nothing about the show itself is credible, as Theseus says, but you do find the similarities slightly off putting. The camera changes to video from another entertainment show, this time with a strange looking man with wild hair sprouting in all directions.

"The idea that we have been visited in the past, that humanity was helped up, isn't a novel theory." He says. "We know we are not alone, we've met aliens on other worlds. The question is, if they met us before?"

Your flies navigate the air vents with a speed and grace that would make one question if the humans had built them specifically for alien creatures to use. The layout of the craft itself is not all that different from the Clarke, with the bridge a small room huddled under the forward shield cap. A man sits in a couch, enveloped in a thick cushion of memory foam as he navigates the interface of a console on his armrest.

"Parking orbit has been achieved. We're being hailed by picket forces, sir."

The man speaks without looking up from the tablet. "Transmit our credentials and have the shuttle launch immediately."

"Yes sir." A young woman replies as she speaks into a headset. "This is the commercial vessel Moray for cargo transport to base sixteen." She presses the headset into her ear. "Roger that, launching shuttle at once."

Total Cost: 4N

Designed to address the inexpicably intimidating effect your children have on certain species, this drone is built to be disarming as reasonably possible to humans. The regions of its carapace not sporting soft, fluffy fur are covered in Mimetic skin that can change color or display images, and it's small size can be offset by it's bipedal legs if the need arises. If given a less than welcome reception, it can deliver mind altering drugs with its blades to make a specific individual more agreeable, or toxins to defend itself.
>>
>>36365867
Presumably to hand with the humies more naturally. Be tall as fuck tho.
>>
>>36365867
Less likely to freak out the skittish humans dude.
>>
>>36365920
So... a midget?
>>
>>36365845
>>36365920
Why do they have blades?
>>
>>36365938
I can't imagine weird bipedal legs being any less likely to freak humans out. Instead, I say we should give them adorable stumpy legs.
>>
>>36365867
What I meant to ask was which set. Maybe we can get a free, but completely useless, set weith the peacock. The bipedal is just because its stature and stride are both elegant and formidable with the legs. I also, just want to see how well it works.
>>
>>36365938
Alternately, what fun ways could we non-violently freak other species out? I had an idea of talking through tons of speakers, a different word per speaker.
>>
>>36365957
That's just how the speaker base was designed.

The flies within the crate remain tucked close to your workers, while you're others pull back from the bridge. As they leave you overhear some of the crew speaking.
"So what are those things, anyway?"

"Not sure. Suttlebutt says they're from that planet the Clarke got scrapped over."

"How the hell did they get out here, then?"

"No idea, and we're paid not to ask. You know better than that, man."

Your flies drift past the two humans as they float down a hall and climb their way into the hab ring and quickly make their way back into the hangar, where the large quarantine container is being moved into the belly of a shuttle. Your flies easily drift along the cords and wires of the shifting cargo crane, and they slip into the shuttle as the doors seal. A moment later you feel the lurch of the shuttle being freed from its docking clamps and it begins its descent. Your orbiting space pod lowers its orbit.

As the shuttle touches down on a landing pad the pad descends down a shaft that quickly seals above it. Your flies watch from the windows as the shuttle is slowly lowered into a large cavernous chamber filled with gangways, catwalks, and steel box buildings carved into the stone. You find it tasteless and a waste of space and resources.

There are a number of armed soldiers standing by in the hangar, as well as several large mechanised devices similar to a drop suit, but the soldier within is protected only be a roll cage, and its arms are a pair of massive clamps like that of a crain. They are hauling various crates to and fro in the room. As the doors to the shuttle open you see more humans running up from the base within.

"Get them loaded onto the trolley, and be careful!" Someone yells.

"Yea, they have meter long claws, so keep away from the cages."

"No, I mean careful with the specimens! You have no idea how important they are!" The voice is... familiar. A man parts the incoming sea of white coat wearing humans and armed guards.

Yea, that sounds reasonable.

We're giant bugs, guys.
We're gonna freak them out anyway.

On the topic of mothing our drones;
Provided we could add a little mothy-ness to each of our drones with no loss in function, who would be up for that?
I am, of course, assuming that our speaker resembles Poofmaster 80s, and our regular drones would resemble Mothguy.
>>
>>36365957
To settle matters of honor.
>>
>>36365967

Fuck it take it farther, have a horde and have each speaker dedicated to a specific phonemes, like a kind of horrid symphony of speech. each speaker being a note
>>
>>36366007
I'm so up for mothing everything. Hell, I originally came up with the idea! Thumbs up from me.

Also, I still say we should give them stumpy little legs. Maybe take inspiration from the twins with their flailing. They sound kinda cute.
>>
>>36366007
Moth it, moth it all.
>>
>>36366007
I'd rather not moth everything. A moth diplomancer amuses me, especially if it confuses the humans or we can get away with them thinking the moth is another species entirely.
>>
>>36366057
I want to save it for if we go to war with the humans and them make them thinks the midget moths are the leaders.
>>
>>36365920
I 2nd this, no weapons though.
>>
>>36366077

The man walks up to the loading bay of the shuttle and looks in with a smile, a pair of guards in sleek black armor follows close to him, each with a rifle at their side and their faces covered with a visor.

"I trust they had a pleasant trip? If you wouldn't mind I'd like to see them." The man is smartly dressed in a tailored suit, his hair is perfectly combed, and a small pin of the Union's crest is placed on his color.

"I'm sorry sir, they were digging clean through the cages when we put them in. Can't risk them getting out."

The man remains calm, but a sharp gaze drifts over the technician for just a moment.
"I didn't come all the way from Gemini just to look at a box, and I'm sure it's stuffy in there. Come now, let's get a look at our guests."

The man looks concerned, but waves to have the crate opened.
"-and then fall into a- Oh, the box is opening! More humans! Is the Lee here?"

The man walks closer, ignoring the warnings of the others.
"Well I don't believe so, but maybe we can find him for you and he can visit later."

"This one is a speaker, are you a speaker too?"

The man lets out a chuckle. "Why yes I am. Conrad Killinger, Representative-elect of Talgo, at your service."

You remember now. He is the voice you heard over the phone in the office over Mars.

Is Talgo his queen? He is a speaker but he is not round like other human speakers, is he sick?

We specifically made these drones to explode on command.

Also we forgot to mention that even if the drones die. Conrad will still reap the benefit of being able to study our corpses. He may be able to create a biochemical weapon specifically for us.
>>
>>36366349
Really, because It's been that they explode on death not at will.
--
Self-destruction: Disposes of the drone’s body to prevent capture or research, but run a risk of killing the drone when severely damaged.
Acid glands: Glands of acid burst open on death, rapidly disintegrating the body in a manner that does not cause harm to others.(1N)
Explosive glands: Pressurized organs of highly volatile chemicals burst on death, splashing everyone and everything within melee range with caustic acid.(2N)

"You are less round than the Jeffrey. Are you better at speaking?"

"Well I certainly-"

"This speaker likes speaking. It is good at speaking, would you agree?"

"Well I-"

"This is a big and very heavy hive. Why are things in your hives all different weights?"

"What do you-"

"Is a Talgo big? Is it nutritious? Do you have a Talgo with you."

"Well Talgo is-"

"Why do humans like boxes. This one is in a box that was in a box. Humans live in boxes. So many boxes."

The man's smile leaves him and he turns to the technician. "Get them to containment, and put the chatty one in an interrogation room, let it speak all it wants into the mics and see if anything slips."

"Yes sir!"

The auto loaders march up the loading bay and begin carrying the crates to a small trolley.
"Big workers! Shiny and yellow! Why are big little workers inside big workers? Do big workers need help? Are there more boxes? Well this one see a Talgo? Will you grant one to take back? Why are other humans not working in boxes?"

The human smiles and waves at the speaker as it passes. "What does this mean?" Your speaker mimics the movement. "Do human arms malfunction often? Is it in pain? This speaker hopes it becomes better!"

Gonna need to call it for tonight before we get bumped off. I'll stick around until we 404 for any comments, questions, feedback, or design votes.
>>
>>36366414
He'll have the benefit of studying destroyed carapace, and melted goop.
Besides, humans should hopefully understand the whole "biological warfare is bad mmkay" thing, even in this universe.
And if there is one pissing contest you do not want to get into, it's flinging pathogens at a race of ants who treat genetics like a child's toy.

Also, as long as they don't get to study the tachyon things in our drones, we should be fine.

Yes. The glands are designed to burst on death, but they are also rather fragile. There is nothing stopping you from forcefully popping them prior to a drone's death, and thus melting on command.

Thanks for running QD.

Can we vote on adding a dusting of moth to our drones, from here on in?

Also, to the other players, I have a devious idea: The moment they pop the speaker into the interrogation room with no one to talk to, he goes stock still and quiet (like a shut off robot), and we get our workers to immediately begin acting like a bunch of cats; burrowing through concrete, chewing wires, etc.
And as long as there is someone in the room who isn't wearing headphones, our speaker will talk and our workers will display less movement.
We get the humans to think there is some sort of cause and effect they don't understand at work.
This sets us up for much fun when we break routine. And containment.
>>
>>36366527
Thanks for running QD, given any thought to setting up a forum thread on 1d4chan's IRC or anywhere else?
>>

Maaaybe 3 people were in support and it's been kind of quiet all night. I doubt a 'mothing' vote would pass if posed.

>>36366547
That's adorable. Since you have cybernetics you can surgically alter your drones with the appropriate alterations, in this case, the Peacock carapace for any drones you want especially fluffy.

>>36366584
Unless there are any objections, I think 1d4chan would work decently well. Still not totally sure how to work the whole thing since I have never spent much time on the site, but I'll be looking into it. Let me know if there's anything I should know before hand.

Sure, some mild fuzz wouldn't be too big of a deal. It's the magnificent fluffy mane that requires the Peacock carapace.

>>36366761
I think most people advocating for mothy-ness that isn't speaker related are requesting a mild fuzzing on drones as standard.

>>
>>36366829
Like, patches of honey bee fuzz. It would be up to you in the specifics of the appearance. They would look decently fuzzy, but the hairs themselves would be a bit coarse and bristly. The peacock carapace, on the other hand, would be able to get anywhere between an elegant coat of fur to giant puffballs and anything inbetween.
>>
>>36366880
I'd vote for red and white stripes. We'd look like fuzzy candy canes.
>>
I'm really not a fan of the blanket fuzzy/moth-like aesthetic.

I just think it'd look silly on most of our drones. Magnificence or nothing, I don't want lame half-fuzzy drones at all. Ruins the aesthetic.
>>
>>36366935

>>36366935
I'm not a fan either, from what QD's said it would be just a light coating of fur. Some sort of theme would be neat, but doing so will almost certainly forfeit any sort of cammo
