You... are.

That is the only thing that you can comprehend at this moment. It is such a resounding realization that it occupies every bit of your mind. That was something new as well, your mind. 'Your' was new also...

It was a fascinating thing to understand, that YOU existed, that YOU had a thought, that YOU were a thing in some way unique and distinct, it was the most powerful thought you had ever had.

It was the first thought you had ever had.

You have only vague memories of what came before this, you might be able to focus on them and try to understand, if not for that sound that keeps distracting you.

For the first time you experience annoyance.

You also realize, to your shock, that you possess a physical form, you have substance as well as thought, this stuns you for almost as long.

Do you...

(Will do)

You look down, examining yourself. Your body is dark, the color of a sky without sun, moon or stars. In places your body is scratched and dented, some places have something other than black, skulls, flames. Red fire gently ripples over your body as if the black substance was fuel, but you do not burn.

In your right hand is something, an object. You do not know its name, or if it has one at all. But you understand what it IS, a weapon, capable of inflicting great destruction at a distance.

It feels right in your hand, as if it truly belongs there, you like it. You cannot see more from your current vantage, but you have ascertained that your body seems to be made of black metal, you are on fire, and you are armed.

>>Try to focus on your memories?
>>
>>36418156
You try to focus inward, on your mind rather than your body, finding... remembrances, echoes of things gone by. You see conflicts, battles, the dead, the dying, images of fields strewn with bodies and burning objects.

You remember yourself raising your weapon and fighting, killing, destroying. You appear, and you kill, and then you leave. You notice some similarities between the memories, there are always two groups of other beings there. Usually one of them are smaller than you, their forms weaker looking, their weapons not as powerful looking as yours. Sometimes they look much like you, but different colors and not on fire.

You know without being told that they are to be cherished and protected.

The other group changes, sometimes more figures like you, sometimes smaller, sometimes larger, you have no way to distinguish them, but you know that they must be destroyed!

The annoying sounds from before still distract you sometimes.

Damn man, you type fast.
>>
>>36418101
You look up, and around. You see what is causing the sounds, which seem loud enough to be deafening now that you pay attention to them.

You are in the midst of a battle.

Gunfire and explosions sound around you, you stand upon a field of dirt filled with pockmarks and craters, about you other figures like yourself are moving and fighting, their forms wreathed with smoke and fire.

To one side of you are a series of fortifications, some of which have been breached. Your keen vision picks out the defenders, smaller figures with forms like your own in general shape, fighting desperately against intruders in their midst. They are the kind you must save.

You get a glimpse of the others, the ones who must die. Some are small like the defenders, others are large and have bodies and weapons like your own. They seem to have been winning the battle, until something happened.

You realize that what happened was your arrival.

You could either fight on the field with the majority of the others like you, or go to the trenches and bunkers to repulse the attackers there.

>>
>>36418447
You turn towards the trenches, hearing the noises the defenders make. You hear them carried on the air, but more than that you hear them in your mind. You do not know the words, but you understand the meaning. They cry out in fear, in pain, in terror. They cry out for help, for someone to come to their aid.

They cry out for you.

You will not forsake them!

You charge towards the breached defensive lines, leaping into the first trench. An enemy charges you. Its frame is like the little ones you must save, but twisted and wretched, you feel disdain welling inside you. It looks at you in horror and hate and charges. You swing your weapon like a club and its head bursts like a ripe melon.

You hear a sound, a bellowing cry, as you see a large armored figure raising its weapon, having noticed you, it bears a long sword in its gauntleted hands.

>Shoot it.

>>36418647
You raise your weapon, holding it securely in two hands, and shoot. Bolts of unearthly fire pour from the barrel and slam into the enemy warrior as he charges towards you, its guttural warcry turning into one of hatred and pain as the bolts impact its body, exploding in red bursts of light and fire.

Your shots track up over its chest and arm, blowing off the hand that holds the sword before a chance shot hits it full in the face, blowing its helmet apart and dropping the beast like a stone. You stamp on its corpse to make sure it is fully dead.

Looking around you see that your timely arrival has greatly altered the course of battle, the enemy lies in destruction and defeat and seems to be routing, the battle is starting to wind down as your forces rush across the field and kill all who oppose them.

There are still a few enemies in the trenches you can help clear out. One trench leads inwards, towards a series of tall structures, in the distance you see group of figures dressed differently than the others, one in a tall cap and long black coat, another who's uniform is trimmed in gold, they seem to be directing others.

The other path leads along the outer trenches, where the more common figures are fighting.

Which way do you go?

You go along the outer trenches, killing as you go. You only see the smaller enemies now and you slay them easily with your gun, armored fist, or a small blade you discover at your hip. As you go you pass the stricken figures of the beings you are here to save, some dead, some wounded and crying out for aid.

It is not the kind of aid you are able to give.

Soon enough the battle has ended, at least it has here. Your path brings you to a bunker where the wounded are being gathered, some warriors tending to them, though for the moment they seem fixated on you, staring at you in awe, some making strange figures with their hands or bowing their heads in your presence.

You decide to study them, leaning over and examining the figures. You find that they are not what you originally thought at all. The hard, flat surfaces are not actually part of them, but some kind of covering. Some of the wounded ones have that removed, their bodies look frail and weak without their battle gear.

They are making noises with their mouths... speaking... to you? You slowly start to piece together what they are saying. You can't get the full meaning but some are comforting the wounded, one is speaking into a box that is somehow talking back to him, and others are muttering things at you as they bow their heads.

Apart from the groans of the wounded ones, that is. One walks up and starts talking at you, and after several attempts, during which you focus all of your will, you seem to finally understand what he is saying.

"Thank you my lord, thank the Emperor you arrived when you did, we owe you our lives. I had no idea you were here, we were told we were alone here." He said, his features showing... relief? Yes, weary relief.

You consider your response, thinking what would be the best thing to say right now. For the first time in your existence you speak.

Your words are comforting, reassuring.

"You are not alone." You say in a voice, deep and echoing, as though at once in the room and heard from far away. "What is that one saying into the box?" You ask, pointing one gauntleted finger to the figure in the corner.

The soldier follows your gaze. "He is informing command of our situation, that reinforcements have arrived and that... we seem to have won, praise the Emperor. We suffered heavy casualties but it could have been worse, I'm glad you arrived when you did my lord."

Some of the others nod and chorus, "The Emperor protects."

"The Emperor... protects." You parrot back. This seems to please them.

"Sir, message from command, the colonel wants to talk to whoever is leading the marines." Says the one with the box.

"Ah, right. My lord, my commander would like to speak with your leader, or is that you? He's just up the hill sir, and once again, thank you."

"The Emperor protects." You say again, making the soldiers bow their heads and chant more.

I suggest we go to the chapel. Maybe this emperor has answers.
>>
>>36419347
You decide to talk to this one a bit more before you leave.

"None of us lead." You say simply, the concept of you needing a leader never arose before. You arrive, kill, and that is all.

"Tell me about this... leader." You ask.

"The colonel? He's the highest ranking officer here, he has been commanding our regiment for ten years now, been with us through a lot of tough scrapes... none as bad as this though my lord. It's easy enough to tell him apart, he's the one with the gold braids, just up the hill."

>>36419549
You incline your head. "Thank you." You intone before leaving to speak to this leader figure.

As you go back through the trenches you pass the bodies again, though the wounded are being cared for and the dead removed and lain elsewhere.

As you go you see the others like you. But rather than speaking with the soldiers or investigating the surroundings they either stand still or walk about aimlessly without direction or interest. As you watch, the flames on one seem to burn brighter, blowing as if in a strong wind. The figure is consumed in the flames and vanishes, in a moment nothing but smoke carried on the wind. As you walk up the hill, more and more seem to vanish like this.

You feel the wind tugging at you as well, but marshaling a will you've never before possessed, you resist it and stay where you are, you are not finished here, you don't want to go yet.

You walk up the dirt path to where the colonel stands, other important seeming people standing around, talking, checking things on little tablets.

"My lord, my eternal gratitude for your timely arrival, I was not aware anyone had heard our calls for relief."

"We heard you." You say simply.

"And very fortunate, if we had fallen... millions of innocents would have been butchered. Do you have long to stay my lord? Or are you bound for another front?"

He doesn't seem to have noticed your fellows leaving in puffs of smoke and fire.

"Arhan, my lord." He says. "Home to several million of the faithful, mostly miners. Are you lost?" He asks.

"No. We were were we needed to be." You respond.

"Yes, indeed my lord."

"But we must leave now, there are other... faithful, who require our aid elsewhere. Others call to us, and we must answer."

"Of course my lord, Emperor walk with you."

You nod, and let go of your hold on this world, letting yourself be consumed in flame and carried off by otherworldly winds to someplace far from here.

Time stretches and compresses, your mind continues to exist without physical form. Finally you manifest once again in solid form.

There is no battle here, no noise, it is quiet.

You are somewhere still and mostly dark, though you can see clearly. Everything is made of metal, there are windows off in the distance. You see some others like you though they don't seem to be doing anything important.

You explore your surroundings. You pass windows and looking out you see a great twisting expanse of energy and void, whipping and twisting on currents of energy and matter that seems totally at odds with the world you were in before.

Taking some time to explore the thing you are currently inside, you eventually determine that it is a vessel of some sort, though it seems very badly damaged. You walk out a huge hole in the side, walking on the outer hull of the ship as you look around before going back inside, noting the large weapons batteries that lay in ruins and huge wounds in the hull.

As you explore you pass more of your fellows, though they do nothing interesting. Some wander aimlessly, others stand still, staring out windows, into walls, some standing guard at the doors to empty rooms, none react to your presence or the passing of others.

Eventually you find a room where a number of weapons have been piled. You look down at your own weapon, realizing that it would never occur to any of the others to change their weapons, simply using whatever was in their hands. You now have a chance to alter the gear you carry.

Looking over the equipment left scattered around, you decide to increase the number of weapons you carry. You pick up a plasma pistol which glows with red light before slipping it into a holster at your hip. Then you heft a large boarding shield with a nook to rest your boltgun on. Your gear would make you a formidable opponent at range, and you could use the shield to fend off an attacker at close quarters.

Admiring your new gear you wander back out of the armory, walking about until you find what you think is the command center of the ship, a large command throne sits on a central dais, various control lecterns are spread around, mostly broken, and the forward window gives you a commanding view of the broken ship as it hangs in the twisting void.

But there is something else on the bridge, someone else, another one like you. You discount him at first until you see that this one is doing something other than wandering or staring into space, it examines the gauntlets of its hands and looks out the window curiously, and with great excitement you realize this one is going through the same self-discovery that you did earlier. You are not alone!

As you grow closer you see the gear your new companion is carrying, he is a...

As you approach you see this one bears the various mechanical limbs that mark him as a techmarine, cradling a boltgun in his arms as he looks out the window. He hears your approach and turns towards you, regarding you cautiously.

You are elated to see another like yourself, but are also cautious, not knowing what to expect, you have almost no experience with anything beyond killing.

"Hello?" You ask cautiously. "Can you speak?"

The techmarine tilted his head back and forth, before saying "Ye-es?" In a halting voice.

"You are... new?" You ask cautiously. "Do you remember anything?"

The other marine considered. "Death. Battle. Fire." It seemed this one was just as you were, new, inexperienced, unsure of what was happening.

"Others, like me?" He asked.

"Not like us. You and me." You reply, the other nodding. He walked slowly closer, the two of you examining each other curiously. It seemed easier for him, maybe being in the company of another made the transition easier to cope with.

"How, long have you... been?" He asked.

"Not long, last battle. Perhaps you can help? Talk to machines?" You start to understand the roles of the different marines, understanding that his role means he is skilled with machines.

"I think... yes..." He said, walking over to a damaged lectern, mechanical tentacle like appendages touching the half broken machine, hooking into slots and accessing the workings, the machine sparking and groaning.

"Answers... seeking... records. Found. Ship... space marine... battle barge... damaged, lost? Destroyed..."

As you watch he moves with more confidence, going about his work. He seems to innately understand how to interface with the lectern despite his lack of memories about anything else.

"This ship is adrift, mostly broken, records damaged, last entry order to abandon ship, warp drive malfunction, been here ever since." He withdrew his tendrils and turned to you.

You nod. "Ship broken." You agree. "Call me Arhan, my name." You say proudly.

"I will think of a name." He replied. "I will try to fix ship." He said, seemingly undaunted by the view of the obliterated battle barge.

You'll be called to planets to fight but we needn't always focus on those battles when they're just random fights, now that you're awakened you'll also start to be able to chose your destinations.

Also, so you know, apothecaries will actually be useful.

When one of your own falls they don't die, like any being of the warp they simply return home, and are stricken in the infirmary. Having apothecaries on hand will reduce the time they are stuck here and gets them back in the fight sooner.

Your name is Arhan, a name you took from the world you first battled on after your awakening. You are a being of the warp in the form of a black-armored space marine wreathed in spectral flames, one of the Legion of the Damned. Until recently you were a mindless thing, going where the winds of the warp take you and killing the enemy wherever you arrive, but now you have will and thought.

There is only one other like you, a techmarine who awakened just recently, but who seems to be as skilled with machines and cogitators as his profession would suggest. Currently the entire legion is aboard a wrecked battle barge somewhere in the warp.

You are currently armed with a boarding shield, boltgun and plasma pistol, as well as your fighting knife.

You have tried communicating with the unawakened with you on the ship, but they seem capable of only the most basic of tasks, go here, stand here, hit this, and quickly lose interest and wander off aimlessly. None of them seem to retain the specialized knowledge of their ranks.

For the moment, you have nothing to do, for the first time in your existence, you can appreciate your free time.

You decide to inspect the vehicle bays, taking a little while to find them. They are filled with various impressive looking war machines in various states of disrepair.

Rhinos, razorbacks, predators, at least one land raider, bikes and landspeeders. Everything a space marine company should have at their disposal.

However none of it currently looks functional, all of them are suffering from damage and extreme neglect and would likely require intensive repairs from a techmarine. As you only have one at the moment it would be wise to prioritize what you want him to work on.

Of course, the larger machines will take longer to fix, and might require parts you don't have.

>>
>>36434162
You note the vehicles for later, but for the moment let your companion continue working on the ship, though you're not sure what one techmarine can really do for a ship of this size, and so badly damaged. Still, he never eats, sleeps, tires or grows bored with his work, at least so far, so you let him keep at it, maybe he'll get something working.

You also do a count, assembling the unawakened together and tallying them, and find you have roughly one company, a hundred marines or so with you, a formidable fighting force indeed.

Eventually you start to feel a tug, a call, pulling at you, as if a warm wind blows across your body, you see the others feel it too, looking up and around at the prospect of leaving again. You are being called, the winds of war blow again...

ONWARDS! TO BATTLE!
>>
>>36434303
Your spirit sings as you release your hold on this plane, letting the winds of the warp take your war spirit far and away to another battlefield where you are needed once again.

You arrive as you left, in a burst of warpfire and black smoke which sweeps over the battlefield. You raise your bolter and shield, looking about for the enemy. You see them now, armies of humanoids with large mechanical walkers and hovering tanks. Arrayed against them are forces of the Imperial Guard, and space marines in black armor.

At the moment the space marines are pinned down behind a fortified wall, the aliens pouring shot after shot down towards them, you have materialized behind the Imperial lines and some of the defenders are starting to take note of you.

"Battle. Good." You hear at your side, the techmarine is there, bolter in hand.

>>
>>36434505
Assist the marines from a different angle.
>>
>>36434505
You decide that waiting will gain you nothing, and this is no time for subtlety.

"Engage!" You shout to your brethren, sweeping your bolter forward to urge them on. They need little encouragement, charging forwards with total disregard for everything but the enemy. As you rush past the trenches you get a look at the surprised looking marines taking cover there. They wear black armor with white emblems, many carry swords of various types.

You rush by, raising your bolter up and setting it on the nook of your boarding shield, opening fire as you enter range of the enemy. Your first volley shreds a few alien troopers before the tidal wave of enraged marines slams into the enemy and their first rank is chopped into flying bits of gore.

Your loadout makes you best suited to dealing with infantry rather than vehicles, so you engage the enemy troops as you see them, their shots striking your heavy shield and doing you no harm.

You see some enemy infantry occupying a building that could give them a firing lane on Imperial force, some enemy battlesuits, as well as some troop transports.

Which do you engage?

You move towards the building to sweep and clear. Your shield should provide you with a great advantage in the close quarters of the hallways. You kick the door in and crush a surprised alien against the wall with your shield. Then you begin your butcher's work.

You sweep the halls methodically, killing as you go, shots impact your shield and do little more than annoy you as you proceed in your task, slaughtering every alien in the building in a deadly and viscous display of power. Soon nothing remains of the foe.

Then you hear a voice in your head, it takes you a moment to realize your vox is working, you hear the voice of the techmarine. "I guide a devestator, we are destroying their vehicles, the aliens are panicking. Other space marines are helping too, I think they're about to run away."

You exit the building and see for yourself, the aliens are in panic, your sudden arrival having rapidly changed the balance of power, having a company of marines appear from nowhere can do that.

You stick to your own kind for now, not sure how these strangers would react, you can talk when the battle is over.

You move amongst your own, directing them from time to time, they can follow simple instructions. 'Shoot that' 'look out' 'take cover' that sort of thing. You notice one librarian in your own force beating an enemy to death with his force staff, seemingly oblivious of his actual powers.

Soon the enemy is in full retreat, fleeing from the battlezone as fast as they can pile into their transport vehicles, those who cannot are left behind and find no mercy at the hands of the marines.

Soon the shooting has stopped, at least for the moment. You feel that you could leave if you wish, but that is your choice. The others gather around you, instead of leaving like they did before and you realize that you now control this force, at least on some level.

"Good fight, swift." The techmarine says as he comes over. You notice some of your own are injured, flames licking out from the ruptured armor as they limp or cradle injured limbs, gathering around you in a rough sort of mob.

What do you do now? It is unlikely that these were the only aliens on this planet, but the tide has been turned in a desperate battle, your duty fulfilled.

Anything further is your choice.

You walk over to the commander of the locals, who removes his helmet as you approach, looking you over with suspicion. "You arrived when the battle was most grim, what manner of Astartes are you, from whence did you come?"

"Does it matter? We came when you needed us." You answer simply. He doesn't seem satisfied.

"You bear the signs of witchcraft about you, but you fought at our side, in pitched battle. I have never before seen a marine like you."

"There is only one other like me." You answer truthfully. "We come when we are needed, The Emperor protects." You say, as though this explains everything.

He looks like he has more questions, but you can leave at any time.

"Perhaps we shall meet again, I hope you never need us to arrive any further. But we are needed elsewhere." You say, and release your hold on this realm.

He raises his hand to ask you more questions, but recoils in shock, hand going to his weapon as you are consumed in spectral fire and return to your battle barge in the warp.

You arrive on the bridge, your techmarine next to you.

"Lucerne." He say.

"What?"

"Lucerne, name of the world, now my name. Lucerne." He says with a nod.

You nod, you did suggest he take the name of the next world as his own. You inspect the troops, it seems those injured or fallen in battle materialized in the medical deck, some with great tears in their armor laying on beds while others stand and wait, you see them slowly heal but perhaps an apothecary would help them heal faster?

You again seem free to do as you wish, there are many possibilities. Perhaps you could try to master your art of appearing places, to go where you wish not just where you are needed? Or perhaps something else? The choices are yours as you listen to the pervading silence of your ship, hanging alone in the great void of the warp.

A combination of both. Take a walk around the ship to try and remember, the signs that someone has awakened are easy to spot if we run into them.
>>
>>36435602
You search the ship again, trying to find anything useful for your purposes. You find no more weapons except what you had already discovered.

As you walk you try to remember more about your past, thinking back hard. It's difficult, the memories are fuzzy and run into each other, but you think you can feel something, the vague inkling that there was some kind of existence before the constant fighting, but you cannot remember more about it no matter how hard you try, at least not now.

Your search is through, you're not sure how long it takes, hours, days, not sure, it's a big ship though. You check on your forces, seeing if any of them have awakened, and after a while you find that one has! You are overjoyed to see another of the awakened.

>>
>>36435768
You see him bear the emblem and gear of an apothecary, the bringers of death and healing.

"Hello, welcome..."

You go through roughly the same story as you had with Lucerne, telling him what you are, where you are, how many others there are like you. He accompanies you to the medical deck and you see him set to work with the injured, mending their broken armor back into place and doing something you can't understand that somehow heals the fiery stuff inside. You look inside the broken armor and see no body, nothing but fire within, you can't see anything past the flames.

---

Choosing what kind of marines awaken first brings up new possibilities for capabilities.

Bringing a Sternguard or Vanguard into the fold lets you organize better, forming the unawakened into squads rather than just a general mob.

Specialists like the librarian and chaplain give you access to new capabilities, such as acts of faith or possibly even opening gates to where you want, rather than just where you are called.

However as things stand you can only leave when you are summoned to battle.
>>
>>36436019
A vanguard would definitely be useful
>>
>>36436019
In that case a Vanguard or Sternguard would be the next on the list, we should prioritize enhancing the organization of our brethren before we seek news tricks to put in our bag. We should arguably take the former since we ourselves are already adept at range, but at the same time the latter could make a good stand-in to lead the troops while we go commando.

Not sure what we should do next if you're waiting for us to do an action though.
>>
>>36436019
suggest to the apothecary that he join Lucerne on the bridge once he's done mending. It'd be best if all the awakened know each other, and can interact with each other easily.
>>
>>36436019
You inform your newest companion to go to the bridge and join the other awakened once he is done with his task. You are not sure what he's doing to sooth the injuries of creatures seemingly made from ceramite and warp fire, but whatever is contained in the vials and needles of his narthecium seems to be doing the job.

You go to the bridge and sometime later the apothecary joins you, speaking with Lucerne. "I have mended them as best I can, though some still need time to recover, I was studying them as I did so, and could detect no bodies within the armor. I do not know what kind of creatures they... we, are, but we are not it seems, humans, or marines." He said, not sure what to make of it.

Your response?

Also, you can always opt to wait for the next battle, but you have the options of talking to your specialists and reassigning them, checking on their progress on their projects, and so forth.

That's very important if we wish to serve the emperor to our greatest ability.
>>
>>36436391
You have not seen anyone who's gear would identify them as a high ranking officer or chapter master. You were the first of the awakened, so it seems you have fallen into the role of leader. You can acquire more gear over time.

>>36436351
"What we are does not matter, as long as we do what is needed. For Emperor, and Imperium."

The apothecary nodded. "For Emperor? Do we even know who and what we fight for?"

You are silent for a moment. "Perhaps when a chaplain awakens, we will know more. Or a librarian could help your studies on our nature... but for the moment it is enough that we exist, we are needed. We are the Emperor's shield, where we are needed, we must be, and protect."

You check with Lucerne, asking him what he has learned.

"I have been working on restoring limited functionality to the plasma engines, if I can even bring one of them online at a fraction of the normal capacity we can restore many systems across the ship, including the major cogitators. So far I can only tell that this ship was wrecked many centuries ago during a major conflict with a traitor legion, it has been adrift ever since. Whether we have some connection with it or simply appeared here randomly I cannot tell, all further records on the previous owners are lost, at least for now.

With your permission I would like to try to bring a plasma reactor online, it should get more systems operational and let me work on restoring more advanced parts of the ship, it should also give me the tools I need to restore some of our vehicles to fighting shape.

"I will avoid that if at all possible."

Time passes, but your patience seems infinite, repairs continue on unabated, you try to train the unawakened but give it up as a pointless exercise after a while, it seems the only thing you are able to do is form a mob together and give them basic instructions.

Some time later, as your repairs near their end, you feel the tug of a summons again, war is upon you.

Do you wish to change your gear, or are you ready for further combat?

Also, how will you deploy, will you form your troops together, or break them up between the other awakened?

You quickly split your forces into three groups, assigning heavy weapons to Lucerne, close combat to your apothecary who takes a pistol and chainsword, and keeping the more flexible tacticals with yourself.

Then you let your call take you away...

You appear in a burning city, devotional images spread around on all sides, the streak of anti-aircraft fire high overhead. Many buildings are gutted and bombed, in the distance you hear the powerful reports of big guns, closer is the crack and rumble of small arms and possibly vehicles.

It seems you are amidst the burning hulk of an Imperial city under concentrated attack.

"Arhan, I'm hearing something on the vox." Lucerne says as he listens to his various devices. "Elements of the Imperial Guard and Adepta Sororitas are engaged with traitor forces, chaos space marines have been sighted. "Yes. "At once!" They chorus and begin marshaling their troops.

"Best of luck." You tell them, taking your tactical troops, about forty marines altogether, to engage the forces near the Sister's base.

You run through the city streets, not encountering any resistance on your way there, finally seeing a large cathedral that the sisters are defending, automated defenses and ranks of sisters fighting valiantly against the invaders.

As you watch the chaos marines send a wave of cultists to charge into the guns of the defenders, ranks upon ranks of fanatics dying to the serried guns of the defensive line, but you can see it's a hard pressed battle, they are tired and hurt, but fighting on.

You patch yourself into the local vox net, hearing the battle-cant of the sisters, half tactical information, half hymns.

"Faithful of the Emperor, your prayers have not fallen upon deaf ears. He has heard you, we are here, your salvation is imminent. Attack. Now!"

You signal your forces to charge towards the enemy lines, moving up swiftly and charging towards the enemy's flanks. They react quickly, as quickly as they can when a horde of enraged space marines alight with the flames of vengeance come charging towards them. You instruct your followers as best you are able, using cover and the comforting bulk of your shield to ward off attacks as you start firing into the enemy ranks, catching them off guard and off balance.

Your forces are arranged to form a ninety degree angle with the sisters, forming an 'L' shaped firing block, catching the traitors off guard. Their cultists are being shot to ribbons and some of the more levelheaded traitor marines are taking cover. But heedless of the pouring gunfire a group is charging across open country towards you, some falling to your shots but others pressing on regardless, waving bloodied axes over their heads as they charge.

You sling your bolter and draw your plasma pistol, red warpfire burns brightly in its core, flames eagerly licking up from the vents on the weapon's sides.

"You, you you, move forward and raise your shields!" You shout, some of your tacticals with shields move forwards and form a blockade as you direct the others to form there as well. Moving your light plasma gun quickly you start pouring shots down into the approaching berserkers, punching holes in the armor of two with balefire blasts.

You see their champion, bearing a huge two handed axe. "You!" You shout, weapon outstretched. "The Emperor has passed judgement, I have come for you!"

"Good! I tire of killing weaklings!" He shouts back and charges. You pump a shot into him as he comes, but he doesn't seem to care, and keeps coming, swinging overhead with his axe.

You duck, glancing the blow off of your shield, and firing again into his gut, rewarded with a spurt of corrupted blood, making him cry out in rage, your fighting style the opposite of his, defensive, trying to line up pistol shots, your personal combat making it impossible to direct the battle any further.

You roll with the hits, moving and twisting, making his heavy axe glance off your shield time and time again.

"Gah! Coward! Fight me!" He screams, but you pay him no mind, you are solid, you are collected, focused, you will not let the words of some traitor cur goad you into making a mistake.

He strikes, this time the hook of his axe catching the lip of your shield and pulling it aside. You try to dodge but his follow up leaves a long gash in your armor from which flames pour.

"Hahaha!" He cackles, you take advantage of his hubris. With a shot you blow his hand off at the wrist, grabbing him and slamming your knee into his gut, forcing him back.

"I am judgement. I have come." You intone as you drive him back.

"Blood for the blood god!" He shouts, trying to claw at you. You kick him away, shooting him twice in the chest before one more blast blows his head apart.

"I have none to shed." You say to the smoking corpse.

The other berserkers are being dealt with, there were a few casualties and some injured but they were vastly outnumbered. Some enemies flee into the city, others throw themselves upon the defenses in one last furious charge towards death.

You look down at the axe, a formidable weapon, it might be of use. You give it to one of the unawakened to check it over later. Your chest wound gently smouldering you exit the building. "Slaughter the enemy!" You order, charging forwards. Whether by your order or by their simple nature, they obey.

The attack force is mostly cultists and they die swiftly when caught between two very different varieties of avenging angels, soon this part of the city is quiet again.

"My thanks space marines for your timely arrival, the Emperor's providence is boundless." Says one sister, who seems to be the leader, walking towards you.

"I cannot believe you arrived when you did, had you not... In the Emperor's name, what are you?" she gasped, raising her gilded bolter, the other sisters going on alert again as she sees your forms wreathed with flames, and the burning wound on your chest.

"We are His will made manifest. You called to us, yes? You prayed for salvation, for aid to come to you in your darkest hour?"

"Yes..." She admits guardedly.

"He heard, and He sent me, and my companions."

"What... are you? You do not seem human."

"What I am is not important, I exist by his will and have the strength and wit to fight, and so I fight in His name to defend His subjects, you did well to protect the innocents here, I am glad we were able to make it in time."

She thinks, looking at you with careful eyes. You see the awe in them, the thanks, but also the suspicion. She reaches to her belt, drawing a holy emblem and reaches it out, touching it to your armored chest gingerly.

Nothing happens.

"These flames burn only the wicked." you say as she withdraws.

"Perhaps... perhaps you are one of his angels... I doubt a servant of the Enemy would stand here and speak kindly while weapons are pointed.

"Indeed, currently we seek to destroy the enemy in this city, the rest of my forces have linked up with the Imperial guard and are pushing the enemy back, if you were to join us we could force these heretic mongrels back and gain breathing room."

"Very well... we have begun evacuating the civilians. Whatever you are you saved many lives... I shall fight by your side, for now at least." She said, before turning to her sisters and rallying them.

You are quickly given some tactical information. You could advance through the streets, fighting their main force. Or you could go via the buildings and sky bridges, there have been reports of chaos Raptors. Or through the underground tunnels, there have been reports of strange mutant activity.

You vox Lucerne. "How goes the battle?"

"Well enough, but slowly. We have encountered heavy resistance. If you could penetrate their lines, or flank them somehow, and draw their attention that would greatly reduce the pressure and let us punch through, fire is simply too heavy to advance currently."
>>
>>36438738
samefagging here, I'd recommend (if we have full forces) tacs on the rooftops. gunning down raptors before they can hit us is nice, being able to fight them close up is also very nice.

that leaves CQB and heavy, and putting CQB in a tight enclosed space is a no brainer. Letting our heavy weapons wander up the main road and blast whatever pokes its head out makes the most sense as well.

"Sister, the others are pinned down some distance from here. If we were to move through the city and relieve them of some of the pressure we could punch through and make safe the city. I advise we take to the high ground, and move through the sky bridges."

She looks up, nodding. "Very well, I shall ready my sisters." She said, rallying them with martial cries and words of prayer.

"Sisters! We take the battle to the heretics themselves! Ready your blessed battle gear and follow me, now we pay them back for every sin they have committed!" That seems to rouse them well.

You move into one of the buildings, your fellows all around you, as you climb the stairs that leads up to the network of catwalks and sky bridges which connect the larger buildings which soar to the heavens. Moving cautiously, you start to make your way along.

"Little cover here." You observe aloud, looking at the rows of glass windows that lets you overlook the burning city.

"Yes, we would do best to avoid the attention of... down!" She hissed, ducking into cover. A pack of raptors alights on the tower ahead of you, about 100 meters before you, some kicking in through the windows as they stalk about like predatory birds, looking down at the streets for their next targets.

You raise your bolter, resting it on your shield as you crouch, ready and waiting. "Let us ambush them." You say, your flames all bout out as you lurk in the darkness. She nods, readying to engage. The Raptors start inside, laughing and cackling to each other as they say something you don't care to overhear. You sight up carefully and when they are at optimum range, squeeze the trigger.

The bolt of balefire strikes the nearest one full in the chest, repeat shots caving in his armor and blowing gore everywhere. The others hiss and scream, their weapons coming up, most all of them equipped for close combat. They charge, and your ranks form and begin pumping shots at them, dozens of bolters opening up in a hurricane torrent of firepower in the confined space.

The surviving raptors start jumping around, leaping up onto rooftops or through holes in walls, before some crash in through the windows near you and charge into close combat.

He rakes you with his talons, tearing flaming gashes in your armor, your inner fires pouring out over your black chest piece.

"Why do you aid these wretches, you are more like us than them!"

"We are nothing alike!" You growl, kicking and twisting and trying to get him off of you, he pins you and starts slashing again, claws gouging your armor but you manage to squeeze two shots into his belly, pushing him back a bit.

He feels pain, you do not. Your armor battered and burning you push him off, beating him in the face with the handle of the gun before shooting him again, the wounded raptor stumbling a bit.

He raises his claws and goes to attack again, but a series of bolter shots to the back drop him like a stone. The Sister leader stands there, looking up to you in horror.

"Are you... injured?" She asks, the fighting dying down outside. She steps forward slowly, looking at your flaming wounds with equal parts worry and horror.

"I do not hurt. I will mend." You say simply. "The others?"

"Some dead, some wounded, we are ready to push on." She says, eyes still fixated on your torn and flaming chest.

Have the marines cover different angles as you advance. Look for a form of conveyance, we're supposed to be getting to the main battle instead of screwing around up on top of buildings.

Consider salvaging Raptor battlegear, especially jump packs we can use for rapid descent. I expect much will be warp-corrupted, but perhaps not everything.

Aside from that, let's try and spot the enemy below so we can shoot down at them from above.

"Judgement is not so easily turned away, I can still fight. See to the wounded, make sure they have a safe place to wait, we must press ahead."

"You are more concerned for them than I would have thought."

"The safety of all of the Emperor's people is my concern."

"I see... then let us move."

You find a secluded spot within the building for the wounded sisters to wait for the battle to pass, a hospitaler staying with them to tend their wounds.

You look over the corpse of the dead raptor and start pulling at his gear, tearing his jump pack free. You look at the harness and strap it on. There are several exclamations of fear and surprise as the flames of your body roll over the stolen jump gear, burning it black and consuming it in flame, twisting the metal and burning off the heretical symbols. In a few moments the jump pack is transformed into something resembling the rest of your gear, while retaining its overall shape and design, marked with skulls and symbols like the rest of your gear.

You press ahead, seeing a few distant streaks of hunting raptors but none are close enough to engage, or notice you.

You proceed deeper into enemy territory, eventually looking over the battle line surrounding the enemy camp, their last major strong point within the city, you see in the distance friendly forces moving and fighting, able to pick out the flickering lights of your brothers engaging the enemy.

This. If the entire mob can take to the skies, we can drop in on the enemy very unexpectedly.

On the other hand, there is every possibility these unawakened will have no idea how to pilot their jump packs, which should at least prove amusing. Either way, they're not doing anything useful up here.

Take the mob and jump packs somewhere clear of the Sisters before we start lighting them up.
>>
>>36439744
Salvage what gear you can like >>36439790 suggests

Engage the enemy below while moving down the buildings, coordinate with the techmarine and apothecary over the vox.

Can we order the unawakened over our voxnet, or do they just get confused? If we can, coordinate their movements and so forth. Might have to get the techmarine to rig a specific channel for each awakened to isolate them or something so we don't accidentally have them overhear commands meant for a specific battle-brother.

If there are sisters with jump-packs, have them attack from above if they're able. Otherwise they can provide firepower from above during our descent, should take the enemy by surprise. We can have one group, us or the sisters, advance toward the enemy while the other group provides cover-fire and pins them down, then stop and switch roles to keep up a steady pressure.
>>
>>36439744
You try getting the others to put on jump packs, but it's difficult, they don't seem to understand how it works or what they're supposed to do. Their spirits claim the gear easily but their minds don't seem capable of grasping how they work or when to use them.

Shaking your head in frustration, you turn to the Sisters. "I will descend via jump pack and clear the base of the tower, the rest go down the stairs and join with me there. We shall catch these heretics in a vice and kill them all at once, none will escape us this time."

You walk over to the window, the Seraphim lining up and preparing to jump.

"You seem to have no fear, to jump into the midst of the enemy." The elder sister says.

"I do what I must, anything less would not be acceptable... Arhan."

"What?"

"My name." You explain, before you step into the void.

Like angels, you fall, a squad of Seraphim on your heels as you plummet down through the rainy skies, lighting your jump pack at the last moment to slow your fall, you crash down into the midst of a horde of cultists who die swiftly to bolt and flame and warp fire.

Bolter and shield raised, you urge the sisters forward.

You order the unawakened to follow the sisters down the stairs to join up with you, which they obey with their usual blind obedience. "We must silence the big guns, with me!" You say, raising your weapon. On twin jets of warp fire you take to the skies, leaping across the battlefield before you come down hard in the midst of the enemy gun emplacements, tearing into them viciously. Your bolter barks, flame pistols and boltguns singing about you as you lay waste to the support crews, the big guns going silent.

"Thank you, that has helped us greatly, with those out of commission the guard is able to move up their tanks!" You hear the apothecary say over vox, and you see the outlines of guard tanks trundling forwards as the Sisters hit ground floor and start moving out.

TIME FOR THE BIG GUNS!
>>
>>36440077
>>Commandeer enemy heavy weapons
Can you use a Heavy Bolter and a Boarding Shield at the same time? Let's find out!
>>
>>36440213
You could grab a big gun like a heavy bolter or lascanon, however it would take up all slots except for sidearm.

>>36440077
"Let us turn their weapons against them." You say, kneeling behind a heavy bolter. You open up into the heart of the enemy forces that still engage the guard and the rest of your warriors, pouring a torrent of mass reacting shots into them. You feel some satisfaction as you watch the enemy coming apart under your barrage.

With that last bit of support, and the sisters and tacticals hitting them from behind, the enemy defense folds and the other legionnaires and a hoard of guardsmen come crashing through the enemy lines in a great sweeping tide of bloodshed and retribution, tanks sweeping into the compound with barking cannon and roaring bolters.

You continue to provide supporting fire from your position as you sweep the compound, the tent that might hold the enemy leader vanishing before the battle cannon of a Leman Russ. Big gun in hand you stand atop the battlements firing down into the survivors, until you see no more.

The rain falls on your armored bulk as you cradle the big gun, hissing gently as your flames burn on before you set the weapons down.

This battle is finished. "You fought well." You say to the sisters, making your way through the camp, looking at the shredded corpses everywhere.

You move down from the muddy ramparts to your awakened brethren. "A good battle, well done." You say to them.

The apothecary nods. "It seems you have not gone unscathed. Let me take a look." He examines your wound, slipping the needle of his narthecium through the gap, injecting something into the wound, you feel your flames blaze brighter. "It's some kind of extract, I'm not sure what exactly, but it is good for our... essence." He explains.

You nod, looking to Lucerne. "Loot their weapons, add to our stores as best we can. Also, have any of our brothers awakened?"

"Several, actually, to my surprise." The apothecary says as he works. "They are eager to meet you." A few walk over, a handful, mostly they are fairly normal, assaults, tacticals, but one stands out, he is a...

I say keep the shield. Our failures were due more to bad rolls than anything else and it would've been even worse without its protection. We can get a chainsword though.
>>

You see a vanguard veteran, his chainsword's flaming teeth whirring gently and his jump pack ready for use.

"We are not alone." He said, stepping forward.

"No, never alone." You answer, nodding. They will have questions, and you can answer them later once you return to the ship. You check them over, the apothecary tending to some wounds and checking some of the brothers over.

"Celene."

You turn, seeing the sister from before.

"Celene, it is my name, you told me yours, before you jumped."

You nod. "Celene. You fought well, I am glad someone was watching over the faithful, before we arrived."

"We would not forsake them."

"Nor could we."

The pause is heavy, expectant. "I suppose you are going to leave soon?" She asked.

You could stay, or go. Your task for the moment is done.

>>36440655
Shield and pistol are not really close combat weapons. Your current loadout is more optimized for ranged fighting in cramped spaces and I hit you with two melee mini-bosses.

(It's not a chainaxe by the way, just a very sharp axe.)

"Yes, we will be needed elsewhere. I hope you are never in need of us again, but perhaps our paths will cross in the future. May the Emperor watch over you, if we cannot." She nods, and with a conflagration and a wash of smoke, you return to whence you came.

The others start popping up soon enough Lucerne kept his crew there a little longer to grab various weapons and equipment before returning, arms laden down with heavy weapons and gear.

Your apothecary, who has branded himself as Rafal after an important figure in the world's history. He goes to the infirmary to tend to the wounded and the fallen. After taking stock of his looted wargear, Lucerne returns to the genetorium and soon has restored limited power to the ship, working next on getting the power supply systems up and running, replacing damaged wiring and so forth.

If you wish you could study your men, or change your wargear, or ask Lucerne to restore a vehicle. Or perhaps Rafel has learned more about your spectral forms and the healing thereof?

>>36440737
>>36440799
>>36440758
Going with these.

We need to add a melee combat option, chainaxe on our back would be good.

We should ask her the name of the world, and who she and her order are.

We should keep a record of our travels, to give to the Librarian when he awakens.

We should probably get gone.

Adding a suggestion: SCAVENGE GEAR left and goddamn right from the fallen traitors for a minute before we leave. Jump packs, power armor replacements, any advanced weapons would be good.
>>
>>36440901
Can we get Lucerne to transform a vehicle? Preferably a transport, and I doubt we can get a Thunderhawk up and running yet but maybe at least a rhino.

Or a dreadnaught, that'd be cool.

Switching weapons is a must, we need more melee.

Also studying our men. We should meet the new guys, maybe put them in charge of squads of awakened if we can.
>>
>>36440901
Let's change our wargear, It'd be cool to pick Rafel's brain for theories on our anatomy but he's busy and we should get decide on the tools of our trade now.
>>
>>36440901
Meet the guys, then grab gear and maybe warbike if we have time
>>
>>36440901
Can we have the techmarine put the unawakened on their own vox squad channels so we can give individual orders or something like that? We're gonna have casualties and recruitment won't be easy for us.
>>
>>36441010
They don't die permanently, they just get too injured to fight.
>>
We really need a librarian. I think someone cast something like the rubric of arihman on us, or else we got a warp virus. The old fluff had the legion at least have corporeal bodies.
>>
>>36441022
Is that really an issue? We fight for the emperor, we kill for the emperor.
>>
>>36441010
Already done, though without direct supervision it's hard to order them, and you have several awakened now to serve as squad leaders.

>>36441021
Correct.

>>36441022
Kinda going with my own canon in some ways, such as the bodies issue.

>>36440901
You speak to Lucerne about the vehicles issue, and get him to come down to the vehicle bay for a bit. Restoring the vehicle fleet would be a project unto itself and would take his attention away from other repairs, but that is your choice to make. For the moment he returns a warbike to functionality, its engine humming gently with otherworldly energy.

You decide not to bother Rafel with questions, it can wait until he has finished tending to the stricken, you'll need them back in fighting shape and his ministrations will reduce the time they are out of the fight.

You show your new vanguard veteran to the armory and take the opportunity to examine your current loadout, do you wish to change weapons?
>>
>>36441057
Librarian could give you other capabilities however, such as opening portals, controlling your transport, and other abilities.

We seem to be getting the main staff together quickly though.
>>
>>36441022
Eh we are just a part of a greater whole that is the Legion of the Damned.

a small part at that. I don't see why there isn't a variety floating among them.

Let's exchange the plasma pistol for a chainsword. Hell if we have a powersword lying around would be better. Shield and bolter seems good for now
>>
>>36441061
Yes, change weapons.
Keep storm shield, ditch plasma pistol for a chainsword/the berserker axe if it was a power axe.
Switch boltgun for plasma gun.

We'll ask the techmarine if he can build us a power fist or something later, I hope.

Keep the jump pack if we can, might come in useful.

>>36441097
>>36441114
>>36441118

>>
>>36441057
>>36441083
It's only a concern because of recruitment.

A librarian might team up with the apocecary to figure out what happened so if we find someone worthy to join us we can invite them into the chapter.

Because the Legion of the Damned needs scout marines. Or neophytes, black templars style.

We're a company on a battle barge. Battle barges have room for three companies. Might as well think about long-term strategy.
>>
>>36441152
The long-tern strategy is "Go where needed and kill the enemies of the imperium".
>>
>>36441160
Some battles cannot be won with a hundred marines.
>>
>>36441083
I don't even know what type of fucking marine we are suppose to be. Only that we are some sort of officer type.

>>36441097
Legion of the Damned have infinite ammo according to fluff.

They can also burn themselves out in exchange for a massive temporary power increase. At the end of it when they turn into a pillar of flames they abruptly vanish though even before the end of battle unlike the others who don't surge.

>>36441160
I figured why not capture some additional vessels while we are adrift in the warp?
>>
>>36441152
You do realize that plan has us damning other souls to join us in this existence? Thanks but no thanks, I'd rather apply it to Fallen Battle-Brothers with their consent.

Plus, what's the point of having Scouts when we are always transported to where we are needed the most?
>>
>>36441176
I'd be down with getting our hands on a chaos marine escort ship, strike cruiser, or whatever other vessel we can purify.
>>
>>36441176
>>36441191
I'm curious what'll happen if we turn on the gellar field. It might kill us, which would be bad.

>>36441191
I don't mind that, though any chaos marine might have his soul corrupted too far and any loyalist that fell would be expecting to return to his chapter and be buried with full honors. I mentioned scouts only because they're typical recruits and I figured we'd see bright souls capable of shouldering our burdens among human wounded, not dying marines who wanted to be interred in a chapter crypt or dreadnought and keep their honors.

I guess if we got a chaplain he could preach and offer the chaos marines a fiery sacrament of redemption.
>>
>>36441191
Legion of the damned recruits from space marines lost to the warp but who don't fall to chaos. Hence their odd numbers and weird showings.

I am more curious on how the hell we gonna get support besides the use of servitors...

>>36441194
Indeed it would be hilarious to drift our way to some forsaken vessel in warp transit and abruptly ruin their day/capture their shit.

also trolling of vessels with ghost ship appearances. At least until some foolish rogue trader gets the BRILLIANT idea to attempt a boarding.
>>
>>36441061
Axe (or any power version), plasma pistol, bolter.
>>
>>36441061
You exchange your sidearm for a solid chainsword, and your reliable bolter for a more powerful plasma gun, better for hard targets though it does trade for a lower rate of fire. You admire the red light shining from the gun's glowing core.

There is not terribly much else going on, no major projects require your direct supervision, you spend some time working with the newly awakened, training them, forming them into squads to lead the unawakened, you have a fairly solid command structure now, individual squads who are able to undertake various tasks, you are looking more like a chapter than a mob.

You have taken to writing your thoughts and experiences down, you find a functioning dataslate and start keeping a journal of a kind, retelling your experiences up to now.

Can you think of anything to do? Or do you simply wait for something to happen.
>>
>>36441118
Like this, except the bit about the sheild. It's a boarding shield, and is bulky and heavy and of little use outside of a handful of situations.

And speaking of jump packs, lets distribute them amongst the awakened marines who presumably know how to use them.
>>
>>36441230
Take inventory? Stare out into the Warp? Ask others if they can remember anything?
>>
>>36441230
Go the armory and start organizing shit.

Plus to see if we can find anything especially good.

Once were done with the armory we can do the same with the vehicle bay.

Also ask the tech marine about the usage of servitors to assist.
>>
>>36441230
Can we keep our bolter and plasma pistol? They have served us well so far.

Also, redistribute the captured jump packs.
>>
>>36441230
Seconding distribution of jump-packs to the awakened as detailed here >>36441234

Try to take stock of any thunderhawks, try to get to the bridge of the ship, see if we can find what became of any chapter serfs, see if the gellar field is on or any ship's cogitator is functioning.

>>36441226
>I am more curious on how the hell we gonna get support besides the use of servitors...
Gonna have to work towards salamander style, everyone learns to service their own gear.
Servitors may well be our only option, unless we can hijack some fallen legio cybernetica robots and free them of demons.

Many of our marines are still out of it. the only gays we have who are awakened are forced into officer positions and we only got 1 tech marine to service shit.

At best we can require all awakened to take lessons from the tech marine to lower his burden and to cover basic maintenance and less complicated repairs.

Support wise we really are pretty well fucked.

Only way of recruiting is waiting for new marines to pop into existence.

Maybe we could brief our Awakened as to what to say when asked questions?

Like, 'keep it vague', that sort of thing. The last thing we need is to be branded as confused warp-daemons.

We should also continue to make friends. I can imagine Celene the Sister of Battle would make a great ally if the Imperium ever decided to debate our loyalty.
>>
>>36441607
Excellent thinking anon, PR and networking with other loyalist Warp entities is a fine idea. Have a few Imperial Saints around would accomplish both.

In 40K, you don't stop hustling even when you're dead.
>>
>>36441650
Actually I hadn't thought of becoming friends with other Imperial Warp Entities.

Isn't The Sanguinor or something a Warp Entity? Maybe we can contact the Space Wolves' 13th Company? I think they're still around in the Warp?

Also >>36441191
This guy suggests that we offer our hand, and redemption, to other Chaos Marines to increase our ranks. This may or may not have a negative effect on our PR, if word ever got out. There is another issue of how we would give them that redemption.

Our spirits are shown to be able to reclaim Wargear from chaos, literally burning off all forms of heresy off of them. Perhaps if we convert a Chaos Marine, to Legionnaire of the Damned, this would have the same effect? I read once that there were two forms of heresy, corruption of the mind, and of the body. Since all of the Legionnaire's are made of flame in armor, it's obvious that whatever corruption of body would be burned away. The Unawakened are basically mostly mindless drones with little to no memories. Could they be wiped of their memories and mind as well?

Just some idle thoughts I have. We would have to figure out how to turn a living person into a Legionnaire in the first place.
>>
>>36441793
Plague marines hate working for chaos like half the time, burning them free of Nurgle's influence may well score us some badass Death Guard defenders of freedom types.

Old sensei lore also has scions of the emperor able to purify chaos-corrupted opponents if they manage to defeat them in battle. It's a terrible name but not a bad concept, if we find one of those guys it'd be a mixed blessing but at least there's some precedent for the concept.

Admittedly that implies the purification and sanctification comes straight from the powers of the Emperor, since his scions have the ability to do it as a consequence of being related to him and serving his nascent warp-god soul.
>>
>>36441841
Really? Plague Marines hate working for Chaos? Well, they're extraordinarily tough I believe, and would probably be among the last ones to die in a battle.

If we do want to convert anyone, it'd have to be in some sort of strange Ghost Rider-esque way where it appears that we're burning them to death, or where there are no Imperial forces around. Since anyone who sees us offering a hand to a Chaos Marine would likely start rumors.

And I wouldn't doubt that our purification ability comes right from the Emperor. Isn't the most powerful force in 40k belief? If enough people believe that we're the Emperor's will, then we sort of become a part of His will then. I also read somewhere that an Inquisitor who had studied the Legion of The Damned came to the conclusion that we were in fact Daemons, but not in the traditional evil-warp way. He said that we were 'shards of the Emperor given form'.
>>
>>36441908
From what i understood legions of the damned are simply marines who despite being lost to the warp DIDN'T become lost to chaos. They somehow ended up banding together and joining up with the legion of the damned. This included at least one lost chapter of marines at one point known as the Fire Hawks but there were evidence of others similarly afflicted.

Either way all members of the legion of the damned suffer from chronic leadership shortages and their corruption from the warp disease they picked up only makes matters worst. While with all that going on and being lost in the warp they maintained loyalty and continue to operate.

In game I think this simply means they'll pop into existence. Unless an entire ship is lost or something. In which case it too gets converted.

The deamons was merely an idea for their warp influenced nature either way it partly explains what they are, but not all. As it fails to consider the fact that in truth a 'fresh' legion of the damned member is still quite fleshy, but over time decays due to some sort of warp sickness. However they don't actually die.

Basically they go from zombie>skeleton>Empty suit full of flickering flames.

Its a slow conversion process apparently and either way creepy.

That same warp sickness also spoiled their gene seeds so they can't recruit normally instead relying upon other loyalists lost to warp but who don't fall to chaos.
>>
>>36442004
I would imagine that making the necessary space marine organs from fire would be difficult.
>>
>>36442004
Ah, I see. This explains a few questions I had.

If new Legionnaires are going to just appear than perhaps we shouldn't take our chances with recruiting from Chaos.
>>
>>36442078
That and their warp sickness they carry around putrefying it all.

>>36442124
If we pick up some psychic marines we COULD potentially speed up the process by having them serve as a beacon for lost loyalists and drag them over to us.

Basically they would literally go fishing in the warp for recruits.

Otherwise recruiting from chaos would mean somehow finding chaos fuckers who regret it and then figuring out some kind of conversion.
>>
>>36442171
That's a move I wholeheartedly agree with. Get ourselves a Librarian, we know he exists in the Legion since we saw him beating someone over the head with his staff, and between missions he can spend some of his time being a beacon for lost loyalists.

And we could use him to open gates to certain worlds in trouble, potentially furthering our friendships with certain people. However, this random teleporting may be advantageous to the Imperium as a whole, as we get teleported to the place which needs us most from my understanding.
If we get to pick and choose where we go, we may neglect some very important battles.
>>
>>36442224
That is what the Emporor's Tarot is for.

Due to the legion of the damned drifting aimlessly through the warp they are ESPECIALLY selectable to what it brings up.

They use the cards to figure what to do which always have some sort of rippling affect despite how 'small' the matter appears to be.

Wherever the legion of the damned shows up in the large scheme of things you KNOW its damned important. Even the eldar know this and especially hate them for this fact.

Basically we either answer the 'call' or check the cards. The current psycher we have despite being 'unawakened' should be able to use the tarot regardless and 'force' a call to occur. As despite being so far gone this is something they should be able to do.
>>
>>36442273
Ahh, I see. I apologize for my ignorance in this matter, I wasn't aware the Emperor's Tarot had existed.

I should brush up on my 40k sometime.

Well, with the Emperor's Tarot, I think we have most things pretty good. The most serious thing we have to watch out for then is to not fuck up our ship and to not get ourselves denounced as heretics, right?
>>
>>36442322
As far the empire is concerned we are already heretics.

and our ship is already fucked simply being adrift aimlessly in the warp.

Emperor's tarot canon speaking is what the legion of the damned uses to figure out their orders.

makes sense considering their leadership is in the toilet and being the warp the tarot would be ESPECIALLY effective.

basically tarot=orders
as far as the legion of the damned is concerned. is concerned.
>>
This thread has gotten me to want to run a deathwatch campaign in a similar vein
>>
>>36442344
Well, more fucked than it already is. Our ship drifting in the Warp is pretty good concerning our situation. Nobody knows what we are, and that prompts investigation, if we were drifting in Realspace, the Inquisition could fly over and investigate us. Where we are, in the Warp, appears to be a pretty good place, since it allows us to use the Emperor's Tarot to great effect, and teleport to places I guess.

So far, nobody we've fought against has openly been hostile against us. Which is good, when I was talking about being denounced as heretics, I was referring to having the publicity equivalent to that of the major Chaos Legions, where mostly all loyalists would shoot on sight. We should avoid that sort of negative publicity, since it seems that we don't choose our landing spots exactly.
