http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/36405164/

(Sorry about last night. I fell asleep. Normally I would space these out by a few days, but I must repent.)

"School's no big deal, Miranda. Can you tell me about your family?"
She's already fallen asleep. Well, you might as well also go to sleep.

--------------

In the morning, Miranda has already gone. You notice some sheet music on her bed; it looks to be vocals. So she's a singer? She seemed kind of shy last night. You can't imagine her singing in front of a crowd, but maybe she's actually very good.
You make your bed and get dressed, still kind of upset that someone stole your clothes last night. Hopefully you find the bastard that took them. For now, you think you had better start practicing your mandolin. You start learning more chords; you now know how to play all of the major chords in one variation, but there are still tons of variations of those chords to learn. Minor chords, 7th, major 7th, 9th, suspended, augmented, the list goes on and on. As you finish playing through a basic three-chord song in your songbook, you hear a knock at the door.
"Come in!" Professor Roth comes in.
"I see you're doing well with that instrument. Good job, you're a fast learner."
"Thanks! I wanted to get some practice in before I started classes officially."
"Speaking of which, I think today we should pick out your classes. There's a lot to choose from, and you've got certain requirements, so I'll suggest a few to you."
"Alright, go ahead."
>>
The Rules:
Generally, the most popular option suggested by the people of /tg/ will win for the action taken or words spoken. However, occasionally dice rolls may be used.

Please be respectful of your fellow players and the GM. Don't be that guy.

Pop culture references are allowed, but an over-abundance of them will likely result in a lackluster experience.

The dice rolls will use the AD&D method. If attacking, roll high. If rolling percentage or a skill, roll low. The majority of rolls will be made with d20.
>>
"By the end of your run, you'll need to take two history classes, three classes on your instrument, two music theory classes both of which I teach, five magic classes, ten combat classes, five of which must be in swordplay regarding your chosen weapon, the longsword, and an assortment of other general classes."
"That doesn't sound too bad. I've got more than a few years to finish it all."
"That's right. Anyway, I've got some classes picked out for you to begin with. You should take five. The three I'm recommending are Intro to Magic, Intro to Longsword, and Intro to Mandolin. So, there are two others you should pick out. You could go for unarmed combat, more longsword theory, music theory, history of the kingdom, history of heroes and legends of Grehawk, some general adventuring classes, speechmaking, storytelling, really there's almost anything you can imagine."
"Those three classes sound like a good starting point. Let's see. For my other two classes, I'm thinking of maybe..."

"... A general adventuring class and your music theory class."
"Alright. Then I'll sign you up for Wilderness Survival 101 and Music Theory."
"Sounds great."
"I thought you might take my class, so I brought the texbook for it." He hands you a thin, leatherbound book with nothing but two quarter notes on the cover. "There won't be a book for your other class."
"Thank you, professor. By the way, did you hear about my duel?"
"The whole university heard about it. You took on the captain of the fencing team and won, it's impressive. You've got your father's talent for swordplay."
"Was my dad really good at it? I never saw him practice."
"When the two of us were in school here, he was the only one on the team who could beat me every time. Anyway, I've got to get going. Lecture notes to write, you know."
"See you, professor."

The professor walks out of the room. You've got a few days before classes start. What do you want to do in the mean time?
>>
>>36423375

Go outside and see if there's anything interesting happening by the fencing stage.
>>
>>36423375
Keep practicing.
>>
>>36423516

You keep practicing for another hour. Then, as you switch between chords, you feel some sharp pain. Looking down, you see that the string cut into your finger and you're bleeding. You put the mandolin down. You learned a lot of chords today, and you now know major and minor chords. But it'll be a month at least before your fingers are hard enough to play for this long without getting cut. Quickly, you bandage the cut.

>>36423505

You strap your longsword onto your belt and walk outside. A few people are playing games with illusion magic; there's a lanky man with a flute who is commanding an illusory snake, a tall, muscular girl who is making an illusory copy of herself, and an old man who seems to be coaching them.
When you make your way to the fencing stage, you don't see much; just two people in full protective gear working with rapiers. You can't tell who they are.

What do you want to do?
>>
>>36423570
Try to get a better view of the fight.
>>
>>36423675

You get closer to the stage. These two are amazing. Every strike is parried, every attack has full battle intent behind it. Then, it happens; one of them scores a point on the other. Strike to the body.
The loser removes the helmet. It's Miranda, your roommate.
"That was a good point. You're way better than me, Assandra." The other fencer removes her headgear. She's got short black hair and tan skin.
"No, you were doing great. You just left yourself open for a second. Once you get that down, you'll ace your intro to swordplay class."
Intro to swordplay, huh? That's the same class you're signed up for. And she's already way better than you; you only won that other fight on a fluke.
"Buddy? W-were you watching? What did you s-see?" Miranda is looking at you. She's sweating. You notice something else: she's wearing her hair up. It shows her ears; they're slightly pointed. Is she half-elf? You didn't notice yesterday, maybe because she was covering her ears with her long, red hair.

How do you respond, freshman?
>>
>>36423743
Tell her she's really good. Don't mention the elf thing.
>>
>>36423855

"You were doing really great in there. Much better than I would."
Assandra looks over at you. "Hey, aren't you that guy who beat the captain of the fencing team?"
"Yeah, that was me."
"Once school starts, we won't have time to duel often. Too many parties. I'd like to duel with you."
A girl? You're not sure about this. Assandra seemed really damn good, but you've never gone against a girl in your life. And you'd hate to embarrass yourself in front of your new roommate. Then again, denying the invitation would also be embarrassing.

Do you accept or decline her invitation?
>>
>>36423906
Accept.
>>
>>36423944

"You're really good. It would be a great learning experience for me."
You slap on the protective gear as Miranda takes hers off.
"G-good luck, Buddy," she says as you climb onto the stage.
"We'll be playing single point," Assandra says. You're familiar with that; a single hit to the body or head wins you the point.
"Agreed." You draw your longsword. Your finger still stings, but you ignore it. "Let's begin."

You raise up your longsword and go for a slash to the body. She elegantly sidesteps and parries. You're fast enough to move back before she can counter with her own attack. Quickly, you go for a stab to her center from below, leaving your upper body and head open. Before your stab can meet her, she sidesteps and has her rapier against your face guard.
"Point," Assandra says. "You beat the fencing team captain? It looks like you barely know how to use a sword. You left yourself open that entire time, your attacks were slow, and you didn't have enough fortitude to stop me from easily parrying."
Damn. You lost that quick. And Miranda was watching. How do you respond, bard in training?

"Sorry, I was distracted. Didn't sleep well, somebody stole my clothes last night. I guess everyone has their good days and bad days!"
Both Miranda and Assandra still look a little disappointed.
"Still," says Assandra, "You need to majorly improve your form. If I were a highwayman who wanted to steal all your money, you'd be dead right now."
"Probably. I'll work on it, though."
Miranda gets up on the stage. "B-buddy, have you eaten yet? It's almost lunch time." She's meek. You wonder why she was hiding her ears when you met her. "If you'd like, I could go to the c-cafeteria with you."
You remember there being some kind of buffet table in the feasting hall under in the dorms. It's true, you didn't eat breakfast, and it's almost lunch time. What do you do, man who just lost to a girl?
>>
>>36424202

I was expecting the thread to go slower so I was playing shitty indie songs on my guitar.
>>
>>36424216
Take Miranda up on her offer. On the way, casually ask about those pointy ears.
>>
>>36424216

Tell her that the winner buys!

No seriously lunch is probably free so we take the loss well and eat some food. Do we have our mandolin with us? Can we play folk songs on it for shits and giggles?

Ignore the ears, and when she points them out, we can say "Huh, never noticed."

"Yeah, probably not, especially since the food is free."
"You two go on ahead, I'll catch up later," Assandra says. "I'm going to practice my swings on my own for a bit."

You take off the protective gear and leave it next to the stage, then walk with Miranda to the dorms.

"Hey, Miranda, I noticed your ears are kind of pointy. Are you an elf?"
"H-half elf. My mother was an elf."
Was? That means she's probably dead. You know some elves died while defending the city you lived in along with your parents. Those damn orcs might have been responsible for her parents dying, too. You feel the urge to ask her about her family, but you're not sure she would be comfortable with it.

Do you press the issue? Or talk about something else as you enter the feasting hall?
>>
>>36424292

Press the issue, but politely. She seems kind of sensitive.
>>
>>36424298

"She was? Did something happen?"
"Yeah." The two of you enter the feasting hall and go to the buffet section. As the two of you pile on some mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, turkey and ham, she continues talking. "She died fighting a bunch of orcs a few years ago trying to protect the city we lived in. My father was against it, since she hadn't been out adventuring in a long time and the people in the city weren't really nice to her since she was an elf, but she went anyway."
"I know how that feels. My parents both died in the same battle. But it seems like you turned out well. And you're a great fencer. I'm sure your mother would be proud."
"Maybe. My father didn't want me to come here." The two of you sit down next to the barrels of wine and ale. "So I had to take out a lot of loans to come here. I hope it's worth it and I can make back the money I owe by playing music."
"You're a singer, aren't you?"
"H-how'd you know?"
"I saw the sheet music on your bed this morning."
"That's embarrassing. Sorry for leaving the room a mess." She pours herself some wine and drinks it pretty quickly while eating, and pours herself another glass. "D-do you want a drink?"
>>
>>36424375

One hundred beers. Exactly one hundred. Thank you.
>>
>>36424375
"Absolutely! How's the wine? Good?"
>>
>>36424386

"One hundred beers. Exactly one hundred. Thank you."
She looks at the barrels of ale. "B-but there are only about 50 mugs here... can you start with one?"
"That will be fine for now."
She pours you a beer and you drink it quickly. She drinks her wine and then refills for both of you.

After drinking about 5 (6 for her) quickly, you start to feel a little dizzy. Do you want to continue drinking with her?
>>
>>36424418

As you are drinking with her, you ask her about the wine.
"It's alright. There's so much wine, and it's free, so you can't expect it to be great. But I'm not c-complaining."
>>
>>36424428
We've lost to a girl once today. Make a friendly contest of it- maybe we'll win this time.
>>
>>36424439

"How about a drinking contest?" Both of you are already slightly buzzed. "If you pass out, bringing you to our dorm room won't be an inconvenience or anything like that."
"D-don't be so cocky. I'll definitely outlast you."
The two of you fill your mugs with the same amount of ale. "Ready?" You ask. She nods. "Then let's begin."

>Roll 1d20. Constitution check, so aim low!

>>
>>36424486
After the first round, you keep it flowing. Now both of you are seven in. Things are starting to get a little spinny.
"I can't believe I lost that fencing match. I feel bad."
"D-don't feel bad! Assandra is a junior, and we're both just freshmen!"
Ten beers in, you're starting to feel full.
"Do you ever feel angry at the orcs?"
"It's hard not to. They killed my parents."
Fifteen in. Your legs feel wobbly when you go to fill your mug.
Twenty in.
"Yer gonna be a great bard, Miranda! I bet you're a really really really really really good singer!"
"Y-yeah. We should form a band and start touring after we gra-- gradumate. Graduate."
Twenty two in. The room gets dark.
>>
>>36424557
Groan and muter "Did I win?"
>>
>>36424557

Wake up.

Scream at the bright light and loud noise.
>>
>>36424557
The sun gives you a headache as you open your eyes. It must be morning already. What happened? You were drinking with Miranda and then you don't remember anything.
You're on your bed, in your underpants. Miranda is also on your bed, wearing her night gown. The room is covered in sheet music. You look down at your hand. All of your fingers are covered in cuts. Looking at the floor, you see your mandolin with blood all over the fretboard.
What happened last night? No time to wonder. Something's rising up.

You run to the community bathroom and vomit about ten times, then wash your mouth out. You feel a little better. And also still drunk.
Miranda comes into the bathroom while you're washing your mouth out and lazily gives you a hug. She then takes off her clothes and gets in the massive bathtub in the corner of the room. It looks big enough to fit about 20 people.

What happened last night? What're you going to do, lightweight?
>>
>>36424604

Hair of the dog. Then a pint of gatorade or Brawndo or whatever has those electrolyte thingies. Then we read the sheet music.
>>
>>36424604
Ask Miranda about last night. Get a good look at her, too.
>>
>>36424651

Seconded.
>>
>>36424620

You walk down to the feasting hall and drink a mug of ale. Some people look at you and talk amongst themselves. What happened last night?
You then grab a fruit drink and take it in pretty quickly, put the mug down, and go back to your room. There's sheet music everywhere. It looks like some of the vocal sheets match some of the sheets from your songbooks. Some stuff is scratched out and replaced on your pages. You think maybe you were playing with Miranda and changing stuff based on how she sang it. Based on what you know about music theory, some of the "G"s you wrote might be "C"s and some of the chords make no sense.
Still dizzy, you sit down on the bed. Then you glance at Miranda's bed. There's a lyre sitting on her bed. It's made of gold and doesn't actually look playable. Some kind of trophy? Neither of you had it the previous day.
What the hell happened? What do you do now?
>>
>>36424681
>>36424651

You walk out of the room and go down the hall to the bathroom. Miranda is still in the bath. She seems half-awake. You get a good look at her. Before you get to ask about last night, she looks up at you.
"D-do you want to come in? The water's warm. I-it feels good."
>>
>>36424696
Hop in! Disrobing first, of course.
>>
>>36424705

Seconded. Try not to slip and fall!
>>
>>36424705
You take off your clothing and get in the tub. That lavender smell is still in the bath. You relax your back against the wall of the tub. Miranda rests her head on your shoulder.

"Uh, Miranda, what happened last night?"
"Last night? We went to that competition. You finished the 100 beers you didn't reach two days ago, too."
Two days? You blacked out for two days straight? Shit. That means classes start tomorrow.
"What'd we play?"
"Whisky in the Jar. We spent all day working on it. You played until all of your fingers bled."
"Oh, cool."

Want to ask anything else, ya silly old drunk?
>>
>>36424732
Wow, we lost like a champ.

Ask her if we did it.
>>
>>36424732

Dubliners, Thin Lizzy, Grateful Dead or Metallica version?
>>
>>36424780

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWrBqCnjOsU

>>36424749

"Did we do it?"
"W-what? We won the competition, yeah."
"I mean, did we have sex?"
Miranda closes her eyes.
"No. You had whisky dick."
"Uh, sorry."
Well, shit. What to say to that?
>>
>>36424806
Say nothing for now. Slip your arm around her waist.
>>
>>36424806

"Everyone has good days and bad days!"
>>
>>36424832

You say nothing and put your arm around her waist. She comes closer to you and hangs her arm over your chest, holding onto your opposite shoulder.
"D-does your head hurt?"
"Yeah."
"Mine, too."
The bath actually is making you feel a lot better. There's got to be some kind of enchantment on it.

Tomorrow you start classes. You've got intro to magic, music theory, intro to swordplay, intro to mandolin, and wilderness survival 101.

"Hey Miranda, what classes are you taking?"
"Um, Healing 101, Choir, Intro to Magic, Intro to Swordplay, and a semester in charm spells."
"Looks like we'll be in a couple of classes together."
"Y-yeah. So you'd better not let me fail."

The rest of the day passes by pretty quickly.

Leaving it here for tonight. Pick it up again in a day or two. Posts will probably be 2-3 times weekly if people keep coming to the threads.

Happy Thanksgiving, American friends. For everyone else, have a nice day/night.
