The weight of the rain weighs heavily on your body. The overcast skies denies the forest its normal wild beauty, but instead humbles the trees to a more reserved state.

You try to keep your footing in the narrow passage way with moss covered rocks.

“We should take shelter.” Vi announces clutches the collar of your shirt, taking shelter from the torrent under your chin.

You take a cursory glance at your surroundings, but find no place suitable for taking shelter.

“There’s nothing around here.” You say grimly while sweeping wet hair away from your forehead. “Keep your eyes open.
“Roger!” Cecilia cheers not fully paying attention to what you ordered as she lightly splashes from one puddle to the next, energetic even in such a torrent.
“Hyaaah!” You hear a barely hear a voice shout through the rain, at first not really sure if you had heard it at all.
“Haaa!” Sounds through the forest again, but closer this time, you can tell that it’s a females voice now.

Before you have a chance to discuss pursuing the source of the voice, Cecilia goes into a light trot ahead of you.

“Wait!” You run through the forest behind her, the soaked soil sloshes with every one of your footsteps.

After a few moments of running, you and Cecilia stop, and the source of the voice appears before you. An athletic blonde woman wearing an unfamiliar kind of red outfit with a small pair of white colored shorts is in a combat stance of some sort.
Suddenly from out of the bushes appears a human-sized worm, its black mouth gaping with razor sharp teeth. Its red and glistening slithers quickly at the blonde woman who has a slight grin on her face.

Since she is unarmed, most of your thoughts go immediately to helping the woman, but her calm stance and confident smirk stop you. You panic as the worm slides on the wet ground with ease, and closes in to just a few feet away from her.

Her grin widens as the worm approaches. The creature lunges at her exposed legs, its gaping maw closing and opening. The blonde woman quickly sidesteps to dodge the attack. The worm gave up control for that last burst of speed and completely misses.

Before the worm has a chance to recover, the woman is upon it. She saddles upon its back and raises her fist high.

“Haaah!” She punches through the worm like a hot poker through butter, leaving an almost complete tunnel through its body.

She dismounts the worm by sliding off its back. The creature writes in pain and its own green blood. It whips itself into trees and kicks up clumps of wet soil, but quickly begins to slow and then eventually stops.

On the other hand, the blonde woman got away from the battle with just some mud sticking to her clothes and skin. She brushes herself off and allows the relenting rain to wash away the mud. She walks over to her victim and kneels near it to observe it closer.
Cecilia rushing ahead releases you from your stupor, you follow behind.

“How did you do that?” Cecilia asks enthusiastically the question that you are wondering yourself.
The blonde woman turns to her and smiles slightly. “Combat prosthetics.” She says simply as opens and closes her seemingly normal hands. “I’ve had them since…” She pauses and furrows her brow.

You immediately see that she has no recollection of her past memories as well, but you don't have the slightest clue as to what she means about her arms.

“Uhh, do you mind telling me where I am?” The blonde woman asks.

You choose to speak up. “We don’t really know ourselves. We woke up in the same situation as you, but our guide, Vi here,” you point to under your chin where the fairy is still taking shelter from the rain, “says this is some sort of garden for some powerful sorceress.”
She looks quite perplexed, as to be expected, and takes a long time to digest the situation. “Cool sword.” She eventually settles on, and straightens herself out. “You know how to use it?”
“Of course I do.” You say confidently to her as she laughs.
She extends her arm to you. “I’m Autumn, nice to see someone else is in the same boat as me. Mind if I tag along with you guys?”
You accept her handshake. “I’m Ed, this world will take some getting used to, but we welcome you to our group.” You turn to your companions as they nod their approval.

Autumn turns to your fairy companion and introduces herself and then to Cecilia.

“Nice to meet you.” Autumn says politely and looks over Cecilia’s body. “You’re not carrying any weapons, do you fight with your fists, like me?” Autumn takes a stance.
“No, I don’t fight at all.” Cecilia says simply with a happy smile on her face.
Autumn looks flabbergasted. “So, are you a guide as well?”
“No.” Cecilia continues to smile.
“Then, what good are you?” Autumn says quietly, with the slightest hint of anger in her voice.
“I’m their friend!” Cecilia replies, unaware of the situation she’s in.
“You’re useless more like.” Autumn says coldly.
“You’ve got that right.” Vi giggles.
A hurt look comes over Cecilia’s face as tears well in her eyes, you try to think of something to prove them wrong, but honestly nothing comes to mind.

Given that you and I remembered how to fight when they time for it has come, she'll likely remember her skills when they are relevant to saving our skins. Besides we already have one guy going around killing people leaving her alone would be unwise.

So you think that implying that Cecilia might be sorceress that's imprisoned all of us in this garden and just happened to lose her memories so she can't get us home, is a good idea?
>>
>>36429326
I think groundlessly implying that we're here due to the intentional macinations of the person most qualified to help us is a lot more irresponsible.
>>
>>36429142

You pluck Vi from your collar and take a step forward. “Calm down, our goal is to get out of here and that’s going to take more than just fighting.” You pause. “Given that we all can’t remember our past, we can’t say for certain that she doesn’t have any skills that might save our skins someday, hell, with all we know about this place, Cecilia might just be the sorceress.”

Vi tosses up a doubtful eyebrow and scoffs.

You continue, getting more heated as you go on. “What I’m trying to say is that other than the fauna of this place, we already have one guy going around killing people, so leaving her alone would not only be unwise, but plain immoral, even if she can’t fight. I won’t allow it, so knock it off!”

The group stands stunned in silence from your chastising. Cecilia’s tears lean on the precipice of her eyes, but don’t fall. The rain has finally stopped and sun shines on the many water droplets on the ground, almost blinding you with their brightness.

Autumn turns away from you shyly and brushes the hair from her face. She finally speaks. “I just… I just let my emotions get the better of me, I’m sorry...” She trails off.

You turn to see Vi already quietly apologizing to Cecilia, not allowing you to witness her shame. You think that Vi simply got caught up in the heat of the moment and couldn’t resist teasing someone.

“It’s okay.” Cecilia giggles and reassures the group. She turns to you and mouths a “Thank you.”

Vi flies high in the air and then comes back down on Cecilia’s shoulder, looking tired. She points with her leg. “We’re not too far from the warden now.”

“Let’s find somewhere to dry off first.” You say marching ahead through the forest, leading the group.

By the time the sun begins to set, all of your clothes have completely dried off, and the four of you are relaxing for the rest of the day under a rock overhang.

Autumn sits in front of a campfire, lazily poking the firewood with a stick. To the earlier shock of the group, she removed one of her arms from her shoulder socket and reassured the group repeatedly that it was perfectly normal for her.

Vi sits on a smooth rock. She yawns and stretches her whole body from fatigue. The whole day she has seemed tired, more so than you.

Cecilia stares off into multicolored sky, watching the sun disappear over the horizon. She has yet to speak since setting off.

You feel a heaviness begin to pull at your eyes, but you aren’t quite ready to sleep.

You settle next to Autumn who gives you a small nod when you do. The exposed shoulder socket catches your eye and you see that it almost completely made out of a dark metal. You look at the removed arm and notice that it is the same shade of skin as the rest of Autumn's body. Even in your wildest dreams you’ve never seen such a thing.

“Normal, you say?” Tilting your head to her arm as indication.

“Of course, or least, it feels like it is.” Autumn continues to poke at the fire. “Seeing someone carry a sword isn’t normal for me.”

“What?” You exclaim incredulously. You quietly begin to ponder the implications of what she’s saying.

Autumn turns to you “This world is absolutely bizarre.” She says quietly.

“Agreed.” You reply flatly and the both of you begin to laugh merrily.

Autumn recovers from first from her laughing “I guess, in the end we aren’t that different. These arms are just my swords.”

“We’re both well-armed.” You reply and the two of you groan and laugh at the terrible pun you made.

“You’re a good leader, Ed.” She looks at the rest of your group. “We’ll be counting on you.”

Autumn stands up. “You mind helping me out?” She points to her shoulder with a quick nod of her head. “It’s pretty easy, all you’ve got to do is push down on each side of my shoulder and twist when I tell you to.”

“Okay…” You say hesitantly and follow her orders. The arm is removed smoothly, much to your disturbance as you hold it in your hand. It’s lighter than you had expected.

“Thanks, you can just put it down next to the other one.” She tells you and you comply. “One last thing.” She picks up her red piece of clothing with her leg. “You mind balling my jacket into a pillow for me?”

“Sure thing.” You say, eager to perform a task that you’re much more familiar with, and ball her red jacket.

“Good night, Ed.” She lies gingerly on the ground and then settles into a position that’s comfortable.

“Good night.” You reply quietly and head off to sleep yourself.

A light fog hangs around the forest as your group travels through. The trees here are all still extremely varied, but are similar in one aspect. They all seem to be stretching in the direction opposite of which you are headed, the effect is more pronounced as you continue, with them becoming almost parallel to the ground.

Your group stops in front of a small gorge. You see that it’s several dozen feet to a rocky creek below you. A delicate looking rope bridge spans the length of the gap.

You gulp and begin to feel a cool tingle in your palms and feet as they begin to sweat.

“We’re here” Vi says enthusiastically floating ahead of the rest of you. “All we need to do is get across.” She turns back and grins. “Good luck!”

Both you and Autumn look at Vi horrified. Cecilia looks quite eager to try out the bridge.

“There’s seriously no other way?” Autumn asks with a slight panic in her voice.
“Nope.” Vi responds happily. “So which one of you guys are going first to test it out?”

No one responds.

“Well, this is getting us nowhere.” Vi says frustrated and then a has a glint of inspiration in her eyes. “Ed, why don’t you decide? You’re a good leader.” Vi says mockingly, letting you know that she overheard your conversation from yesterday.

“I’ll go first” You step forward to accept Vi’s challenge and look across the gorge. You muster up your courage and take your first tentative steps on the bridge when you are inspired by an idea.
“And you’re coming with me, Vi.” You grab the unsuspecting fairy from the air and clench her in your hand preventing escape.
“What? No! I can fly across, you buffoon.” You can feel her legs wriggling under your grasp as she tries to claw her way free.

Both Autumn and Cecilia giggle.

“I’m a great leader, just you watch. Once I’m across follow me one by one.” You point to the giggling pair. You head off once again.

The rope bridge creaks under your feet, you can feel your heart thump intensely in your chest as if it wants nothing to do with bridge crossing and is trying to escape your body.

“Gross, Ed. I can feel your sweat.” Vi protests, having given up on trying to escape.

You slowly make it halfway across the bridge. You whole body tingles as you clutch the ropes with one hand. The ropes feel tense and hard under your grasp, you observe them more closely. The ropes are brand new, they can’t be more than a month old.

Feeling a lot more confident about what’s underfoot, you decide to have a little fun.
[1/?]
>>
>>36431524
“Woah!” You pretend to lose balance and suspend your arms over the ropes.
“STOP!” Vi shouts at you, trying to escape your hand with reinforced vigor.

You proceed with more fake shaky steps and make it almost all the way across the bridge. For a last bit of fun you begin to swing the bridge with your weight. At one point almost making it turn sideways.

“ED! I’m going to murder you in your sleep!” You hear over your own laughter and finally decide to finish crossing. You let go of Vi.

She claws and kicks at your face, while you lightly bat her away, laughing all the while.
The fairy eventually stops and lands on the ground, clutching her legs tightly. She begins to sob. You feel a little guilty about what you just did, but you think it’s just an act on her part, probably.

“Okay, one at a time!” You shout back to the two left behind.

Cecilia proceeds first, happily mimicking the fun that you had earlier by rocking the bridge and taking it a step further by even hopping across the bridge.
You gulp at her perplexing bravery and wonder if bravery is the right word for it.

With a big grin on her face she lands right in front of you. “That was so much fun! Can I go again?” She asks.
“Uhh maybe when we’re leaving.” You say quickly.

You turn back to Autumn to see her taking painfully measured and slow steps across the bridge. She clutches the ropes with both her hands and doesn’t dare look anywhere but forward. It takes her quite a while to make it only partway across, but then she stops.

“You can do it!” Cecilia calls out to reassure her.

There’s still no movement.

“Are you okay?” You call out when a gust of when rocks the bridge lightly and blowing Autumn's blonde hair wildly.
Autumn screams and then takes a few moments to regain her composure. “I’m really really bad with heights.” She calls out shakily.

You decide that in order to have her overcome her fear, she needs a stronger emotion to forget about it. You think for a moment about how to go about it and finally settle on an idea, while grinning madly to yourself. You take a big gulp of air and then shout out:

“Iron girl Au~tum~n
Invincible Au~tum~n
Brave and strong Au~tum~n
She always saves the day!
You can do it Autumn!”

Afterwards there’s only the sound of wind whistling throughout the gorge. You decide to do it again, but only louder this time.

“Iron girl Au~tum~n!
Invincible Au~tum~n!
Brave and strong Au~tum~n!
She always saves the day!
You can do it Autumn!!”

“Please stop!” Autumn calls out, while trying to hide her blushing face with her blonde hair.

You sing again, this time with Cecilia singing along.

“PLEASE!” Autumn begs, her bare legs trembling.
“I’ll only stop when you make it across~!” You call out teasingly and chant out another round of your new mantra with Cecilia.

Autumn finally takes a shaky step forward, and then another. Her desperation to stop the two of you spurs her on allows her to make it across in no time at all.

She arrives on your side both winded and completely flush. “Let’s go.” She says moodily without looking at anyone.

You smile at Cecilia and bend down to pick up a still brooding Vi. “Well then, let’s not make the warden wait any longer for us.”

You take a look off into the distance forest. A deep humming sounds out as the shadowy trees seem to be moving on their own. A cloud of fog lingers in between, while the seemingly dance in it.

Without taking a look back from where you came you solely reaffirm what Autumn said.. “Let’s go.”
